I have penned numerous articles concerning the potential use of biological warfare in the United States, and it appears to be more imminent than ever. While this may seem farfetched, how can we forget Covid-19, which many claim came from a Chinese lab and the genetic manufacturing of disease-laden mosquitoes?
[Let us not forget many speculate that Covid 19 was deliberately released to thwart President Trumps agenda! …but of course the Democrats dismissed it as a hoax.]
Now the threat seems closer than ever because of a serious biosecurity breach.
The "major historical breach of biosecurity protocols" that health officials are dealing with serves as a terrifying reminder of the possibility of biological warfare.
Following the disappearance of 323 vials containing harmful viruses from the state's Public Health Virology Laboratory in August, Queensland Health, Australia's public health agency, has opened an inquiry, according to an official statement.
Deadly virus samples have gone missing and may be en route to various locations worldwide. The Hendra, Lyssa, and Hanta viruses—all of which can cause serious disease or even death—are among the missing samples. Only found in Australia, the Hendra virus is a zoonotic pathogen that has caused deadly epidemics in the past.
Lyssavirus, which includes the rabies virus, is nearly always fatal without treatment. Hantaviruses are well known for generating hemorrhagic and respiratory illnesses that can be fatal.
The engaged laboratory focuses on surveillance, diagnoses, and research on medically significant viruses and vector-borne infections. Regrettably, the loss, theft, or destruction of the samples remains a mystery. The public has received assurances from authorities that there is "no evidence of risk to the community."
Timothy Nicholls, the health minister for Queensland, voiced his grave worry about the breach and emphasized the importance of conducting a comprehensive inquiry. The severe violation of biosecurity procedures and the potential disappearance of contagious virus samples necessitate a thorough investigation by Queensland Health, according to Nicholls.
The inquiry will evaluate current biosecurity policies, laboratory practices, employee behavior, and regulatory compliance. In the interim, we have taken proactive steps like retraining employees and conducting more thorough audits of virus storage procedures.
Northeastern University's director of AI and life sciences, Dr. Sam Scarpino, called the incident a "critical biosecurity lapse." Despite their low person-to-person transmissibility, he pointed out that these viruses still have the potential to create serious outbreaks.
"Hantaviruses, for instance, are more than 100 times more deadly than COVID-19, with fatality rates as high as 15%," Scarpino said. "These pathogens are a serious threat to both humans and animals, even though there is little chance of a major epidemic." The Lyssavirus that causes rabies is still one of the deadliest viruses and, if left untreated, almost always results in death. In a similar vein, the Hendra virus can kill humans and has historically decimated livestock.
Dr. John Gerrard, Chief Health Officer, emphasized that there is no immediate threat despite the worrisome extent of the breach. Outside of low-temperature storage, "virus samples would degrade rapidly, rendering them non-infectious," he said.
Australia has never documented Hantavirus infections, and Queensland has not verified any instances of Hendra or Lyssavirus in the previous five years.
Nevertheless, Dr. Scarpino stressed how crucial it is to find the missing samples. "We need to know where these vials ended up to confirm there is no longer any possibility of exposure, even if the immediate risk is low," he stated.
The incident has rekindled concerns regarding global biosecurity vulnerabilities. Similar biosecurity failures have happened in the US, Dr. Scarpino noted, highlighting the necessity of more funding, openness, and responsibility in disease control.
Final Word: Am I a conspiracy theorist, or does America's enemies, both foreign and domestic, could use the most gruesome form of warfare, biological warfare?
