  • The Founders did not foresee "winner take all" Only two states adhere to proportionate electoral candidates.

They also allowed the state government to vote via Senators, to voice the cumulative state electoral candidates.

    • What? " The Founders did not foresee "winner take all'  to select their state Electors?

Sorry, but the founders NEVER expected a popular vote would become the means to assign the Electors vote... The States, via appointment by State Government, were to select Electors and secure their pledge to cast their electoral vote for President as instructed by the State they represented.  The several States were to elect the President and Vice President... not the popular vote.

How far our citizen's education has digressed from the vision our Founding Fathers had... for governing the Republic.  The States were to be sovereigns, not servants. The Federal Government was to be the servant of the States.  The Federal Government was limited to 18 specific powers, as defined in Article 1, Sections 8 and 9 of the US Constitution.  However, The Federal Government has long exceeded its Constitutional powers and the states must now act decisively to return the Federal Government to its Constitutional limits.  The election or selection of our Republic's President, Vice President, and US Senate were originally reserved to the several State governments... not a popular vote.

The Federal government is to be the instrument of the States... not necessarily the people.  The citizens of the States originally participated in electing the House of Representatives only... The PEOPLE"S HOUSE.  The House was the people's source of power in the Federal Government, the Senate was to serve the States.  It is amazing how this simple relationship between the States, the People, and the Federal Government has been twisted by our COURTS and a corrupt political class... too, confuse and control our government.

The argument over the assignment of the state's Electoral vote is not the main issue...  it is how the Electors are selected and to who they pledge their vote... either to the popular vote of citizens or to the State Houses and Governors. The later method of selecting Electors and assigning their vote was the favored method of the founders, and for good reason.  The Public is frankly fickled, and often easily mislead by the unscrupulous media and political class.  The People were to control the House of Representatives.... and with it the PURSE strings of government. The States were to control the Administrative powers of the State government and the federal system, through a series of checks and balances between the powers of the State and Federal Government. Neither the States nor the People can run away with the Republic if the original checks and balances between the People, State, and Federal GOvernment remain intact.  We must repeal the 17th Amendment and return the election of US Senators and the President and VP to their original methods.

    • Exactly, Colonel and I remember another point from my high school days. electoral colleges were set up to help prevent the larger states from overlording the smaller states.

    • Gary, the political machines don't want anything intended by the founders to be in effect because that would derail their tyranny!!!!!!!!!!

    • Our founding fathers never intended 'Electors' to be assigned by popular vote...  Initially, state legislatures appointed electors and directed who they were to vote for... THE SEVERAL STATE GOVERNMENTS ELECTED THE PRESIDENT... making the President the servant of the States.  Presidents and VPs were never intended to be elected by popular vote., If anything we need to return to the original Constitutional method for electing a President... State Legislatures and Governors who appoint Electors and vote the will of the State Government.... not the fickled and welfare dependents of the Federal Government.

US Senators were appointed or elected by the State Legislatures or the governor... thus, making the US Senate a body that responded directly to the State's needs... A US Senator's tenure of service in the US Senate was dependent on the Senators servicing of their STATE's needs... not the people's independent vote.  US Senators were never intended to be elected by popular vote... which freed them from state influence.  We need to return to the original form for selecting US Senators... REPEAL the 17th Amendment. and return the balance of power to the several state governments.

    • This should go without saying being so obvious, except for many it is not.

    • Great analysis, Ronald. For sure, the states lost their individual voice and minimized their states rights when the senators became elected by popular vote rather than through their elected state legislators.

  • Like I said once an idiot always an idiot

  • This idiot spews democracy, otherwise know as mob rule, that was firmly avoided by our founding fathers and rarely mentioned in their considerations that led to the establishment of our Constitutional Republic, a land guided by law, not the whims of man.

  • What a pile of poorly eductated retard
