Becerra actually benefited from the scheme and was illegally paid the stolen campaign money

Gavin Newsom’s former chief of staff Dana Williamson is how they laundered the money

- When Becerra moved to Washington DC, he wanted his chief of staff, Sean McCluskey, to come with him.
- The move meant a big pay cut for McCluskey and a lot of expensive back and forth flights to see his family in California
- So they used money from Becerra’s campaign account to secretly pay McCluskey’s wife
- The payments were routed through Dana Williamson (Gavin Newsom’s former chief of staff), who has now been indicted
