Democrat Florida Governor candidate busted for three grams of methamphetamine, eight pre-rolled marijuana joints, multiple pipes, cut straws, and a bong and charged with felony drug possession, marijuana possession, and paraphernalia, booked into jail, and released the next day.

Once again, the man who nearly became Florida’s governor is sitting behind bars. Former Tallahassee Mayor and 2018 Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum is back in custody in Alabama after prosecutors say he skipped a court-ordered drug test and then tested positive for methamphetamine.

Gillum had been free on the Alabama “color code” random drug-testing system. Defendants must call a hotline daily and report for testing whenever their assigned color is announced. According to Baldwin County Assistant District Attorney John Oxford, Gillum’s color came up—and he simply failed to show. When he finally appeared in court Thursday, a test came back positive for meth. Authorities immediately took him back into custody.

This latest episode arrives barely a month after his July 2 arrest in Daphne, Alabama. Police stopped Gillum for erratic driving on U.S. Highway 98 and spotted a glass pipe in plain view. A search turned up roughly three grams of methamphetamine, eight pre-rolled marijuana joints, multiple pipes, cut straws, and a bong. He was charged with felony drug possession, marijuana possession, and paraphernalia, booked into jail, and released the next day.

It is the third time Gillum has been linked to crystal meth. In March 2020, Miami Beach police found him intoxicated and vomiting in a hotel room with a male escort who was overdosing. Officers recovered baggies of suspected meth. Gillum denied using the drug, blamed alcohol, checked into rehab, and faced no charges at the time.

The same progressive political class that once celebrated Gillum as a rising star now has little to say. The candidate who lectured Floridians on morality, equity, and “holding power accountable” has repeatedly been caught in the orbit of hard drugs and chaos. Skip the test, fail the test, get locked up again. The pattern is no longer subtle.
