Overpaid NGO executives..... so much for "charity".

“...we recognize that nations have a responsibility to regulate their borders and establish a just and orderly immigration system for the sake of the common good...[n]o one has said that the United States should have open borders. I think every country has a right to determine who and how and when people enter.” --Pope Leo XIV

If you disagree with the multicultural myth that neo-liberalism is pushing, if you disagree with the misconstrued “diversity is our strength”, you will be called a racist-fascist. It appears then that we're not going to be able to save our nation without being called a racist. We're not going to be able to do the things that we need to be able to do without being called racist. generations. It's not racist to want your home to prosper. That is the belief that our nation was founded on, and many sacrificed to achieve and maintain.

But the “10 million people here who don't have documents” that Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago suggested, or as many as 14 million illegal aliens entered our home under the corrupt biden regime. Since 2024 the Dept of Homeland Security has reported that “more than 2 million illegal aliens have left the U.S., including 1.6 million who have voluntarily self-deported and more than 527,000 deportations.”

Responding to this, by a vote of 216 votes in favor, 5 against, and 3 abstentions, the Plenary Assembly of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) issued a Special Message on immigration, essentially criticizing the policies of the Trump administration(1). The bishops wrote “we are disturbed when we see among our people a climate of fear and anxiety around questions of profiling and immigration enforcement. We are saddened by the state of contemporary debate and the vilification of immigrants...we feel compelled now in this environment to raise our voices in defense of God-given human dignity . . .  [as] Catholic teaching exhorts nations to recognize the fundamental dignity of all persons, including immigrants. We bishops advocate for a meaningful reform of our nation’s immigration laws and procedures.”

Why didn't the bishops ask whether these undocumented individuals had given thought to applying to enter the country legally, perhaps even offering assistance when they seek to enter? Rather than applaud themselves on approving their “Special Message,” the bishops should have taken 3 important points into account.

1. Distinguished between those who entered the US lawfully and those who did so unlawfully when describing those subject to arrest and detention, amid accusations that federal officials are acting indiscriminately by engaging in mass deportations. On the 1 hand, the bishops and pope aptly recognized the right of nations to control their borders in not calling for open borders. Yet, by criticizing Trump in a way they have not done in other situations, even recognizing that without appropriate laws procedures “immigrants face the risk of trafficking and other forms of exploitation,” they failed to distinguish between those who are peaceful and the estimated 40%  with criminal convictions, of whom 8% have violent convictions, by incorrectly lumping all “immigrants” into 1 group.

2. The naive "welcome the stranger" exhortations of pastoral concern failed to look at other dimensions of the situation. More specifically, even if 1 were to say that such incidents were limited, where were the bishops’ expressions of concern and prayer for the victims who were expolited, raped and murdered by those who entered unlawfully while others were subjects of other violent crimes and/or lost their lives caused by individuals who entered the US illegally? Rather than ignorantly criticize the administration, perhaps the bishops could have offered resources, or suggestions to help those who have not entered the US legally to comply with the law if they wish to remain and pursue citizenship

3. Resistance to agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, known as ICE, who are trying to perform their sound legal duties, the bishops’ statement: “pray[ing] for an end to dehumanizing rhetoric and violence ... directed at law enforcement” was not enough. The bishops should have more explicitly urged immigrants to follow the law while reminding them and their supporters to remain peaceful and non-violent when interacting with ICE agents. The bishops’ rhetoric risks placing ICE agents and other law enforcement officials at risk. In fact violence has increased 1,150%, from the same timeframe in 2024. Further, officials faced a surge in vehicle ramming attacks as they attempt to carry out their duties.

In refusing to follow Jesus asertion to “render unto Caesar,” the bishops appear to be ignoring the reality, that most, if not all, of these adults, broke sensible law in entering the US, let alone all, the destructive bagage unregulated innigration has forced on the US, without its approval. This mass unchecked entry is a far cry from what happened during the wave of mass immigration in the 20th century when people immigrated into the US through Ellis Island, and other locations, and then completed processes enabling them to achieve legal status.

As religious leaders, 1 can understand the bishops' concerns about members of their flocks. However, by focusing on the all “immigrants” without looking more closely at the reasons, effects and results of the dysfunctional system they support(2), the bishops are more harm than help. Are the bishops engaging in political activism(3), sacrificing part of their flock for another?

Rather than releasing a document being perceived as overtly political, the bishops should have offered practical suggestions designed to help ameliorate the crisis by encouraging those who wish to enter the US legally.

1. The last time the USSCB released such a special message was in 2013, in response to a mandate from the Dept of Health and Human Services voice that would have required employers, regardless of their religious beliefs, to provide employees with abortifacient drugs and devices, sterilization, and contraception without exception. The bishops’ immigration stance is inconsistent. Their stance on this moral matter stands in stark contrast to their silence in the face of the putatively Catholic joe biden's approach to abortion and the sanctity of the lives of the unborn after he repudiated his earlier pro-life positions, and conducted his administration accordingly. Archbishop Joseph Naumann, then Chair of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life activities, questioned corrupt biden’s having described himself as "devout" given his support for abortion and other positions inconsistent with his professed Catholic beliefs. But even that didn't rouse the bishops to speak out.
2. Under various laws and programs, foreigners can ‘permanently reside’ in the U.S. as non-citizens.The biden regime used these programs to submerge midwestern towns with illegals who can’t drive. The rules are complex and arcane, which is why corrupt biden also paid lawyers to help them. 1 of the rules requires each permanent resident to have a sponsor, an individual who demonstrates sufficient assets and income to support the person if they ever become a financial burden on the state. There’s even a sponsor form, the I-864, which includes a contract. The contract puts the sponsor on the hook for any welfare given to the immigrant by any local, state, or Federal agency. Right about now, you’re probably thinking this sounds great, and wondering why you never heard of it before. The reason is simple. The left-wing/democrats passed this law to "prove" immigrants wouldn’t be a burden, and then promptly broomed it via their favorite tactic: selective non-enforcement. The government has never before sued a sponsor. After all, the contract only says the agency “may ask for reimbursement.” Not “must!” Shouldn't sponsors being forced to cough up what they owe taxpayers for bringing in as sponsors millions of people who cannot and did not support themselves?
3. The Free Press examined 3 of the most prominent NGOs that have benefited: global refuge, southwest key programs, and Endeavors, Inc. These organizations have seen their combined revenue grow from $597 million in 2019 to $2 billion by 2022, the last year for which federal disclosure documents are available. And the CEOs of all 3 nonprofits reap more than $500,000 each in annual compensation, with one of them -- the CEO of southwest key -- making more than $1 million. The same for adult migrants, these have raked in billions of dollars under the prior administrations. Compensation packages for executives of these organizations tend to be lavish. Catholic Charities, reports that the CEO receives almost $1 million per annum. Doubtless there are other financial perks.
