Somaliland was part of an Italian Colony until the end of World War I and is a Muslim Country with a predominately tribal culture. The only reason it is appealing to the United States is because it fears the warlords in Somalia, a failed terrorist state. I am all for entering into agreements that would enhance US interests in terms of basing and staging close to the Bab-el-Mandeb and provide access to resources; however, we must be very careful to make it clear that our relationship is primarily commercial and not defense. Hassan Aden is not representative of the normal citizen of Somaliland, so beware. I would also demand access for Christian missionaries to enter the country and share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, tying future or enhanced agreements to Somiland's conversion to Christianity. Islam is of Satan while Christianity is of God (YHWH).
