  Are you ready to be corrupted if elected? Are you ready to have the watchful eye of the people constantly suspicious of your integrity if elected? The chances of being elected to a position of power and not becoming corrupted that we should assume that anyone elected has been corrupted, no matter how good their original intention. That is why our Constitution was designed to chain down the power of government. Our founding fathers did not trust anyone who would serve in a position of power, no matter how honorable their intentions were. Thus they tried to create a system to limit what power they would have in office. Unfortunately there were holes in the system they created and the corruption crept in. Like the Dark Side in Star Wars or the Ring in the Lord of the Rings, just to attempt to use the powers of government for good will corrupt you. Hence the reason for term limits, and for as short a period as possible. The assumption must be that anyone elected will eventually be corrupted to wield their powers over others and we must always assume those we elect will eventually turn to the support one or more of the four horsemen of BIG business, BIG unions, BIG government or BIG taxes with their votes. I don't know of one politician that has never compromised their principles to be practical and trade votes to get some of their own proposals through.
