Less than 20% of the voting age population vote in primary elections while some 55% vote in the general election in November and here lies the problem. Because we all love our representatives and we all remain loyal to our "republican" or "democratic" beliefs we tend to not vote in the primary and not split our vote in the general. Any change must take place in the primary. We all need to start paying closer attention to who is running in the primary and make any change there. Until we do, nothing in Washington will change.
I would suggest one area you rarely hear anyone talking about
, the greatest single problem in our great country is the fact that in general most of us really love and trust the men and women we elect to the Senate and the Congress. We think the representative's we put in office are doing everything they can to protect the
Republic. We just keep rubber stamping them into office year after year after year. The problem is with the other fellows representatives not ours.
We all know that all of congress and one third of the senate is elected to office every two years. One fellow recently in the news has been elected twenty six times. We have had 19 US Senators with 30 to 51 years in office, two are still there today. We have had 49 US Congressmen serve 30 to 57 years. 9 are still there today. We call them, and others with less tenure, "The Washington Elite". How do the get that way?
Many years of back scratching and eventually they need to bend their values.
