“President Obama’s China adviser, Evan Medeiros, has a long history of downplaying the threat to U.S. interests posed by Beijing’s rapid military and economic growth, once even penning a paper that argued China should embrace a “great power mentality.”

Medeiros was appointed as China director of the White House National Security Council in 2009.

He was a foreign policy adviser to Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign and even donated $3,800 to the candidate, his only campaign contribution on record since 2000.

Medeiros has been an external researcher at the Strategic Studies Institute of the U.S. Army War College, where he has given several recent lectures.

He was formerly a senior research analyst at the Arms Control Association in Washington, D.C. He was also a project associate with the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Project at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and joined the RAND Corporation as a political scientist in 2002.

Prior to that, Medeiros was a senior research associate at the Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Monterey Institute.

In his most recent “Inside the Ring” column in the Washington Times, Bill Gertz cited congressional Republicans as identifying Medeiros as a key player involved in the Obama administration’s policy of refusing to sell needed arms toTaiwan.

The same report blamed Medeiros for delaying the release of a second Pentagon report to Congress on the shifting air power balance in the Taiwan Strait.

The Times also cited Republican staff aides and a defense official as stating they believe Medeiros is behind efforts to block the release to Congress of the Pentagon’s annual report on Chinese military power, completed months ago and due to Capitol Hill on March 1.

The report on China’s military was also delayed last year. When it was eventually released, the report was watered down with a minimized title. Previously called the “Annual Report to Congress: Military Power of the People’s Republic of China,” the report was renamed “Annual Report on Security Developments Involving China.”

Medeiros, meanwhile, was fingered by Gertz’s sources as a key official in preventing the U.S. sale of 66 advanced F-16 jets to Taiwan and for delaying the sale of equipment to upgrade Taiwan’s existing F-16s. Both military moves were expected to anger China.

A review of Medeiros’s articles and statements to the news media finds a regular trend of minimizing China’s threat to the U.S.

In 2009, just before his appointment to the NSC, Medeiros stated China was not seeking to “confront the United States or expel it from the region.”

He argued China was not aiming to replace America as a superpower.

In 2007, Medeiros, speaking as an expert at the RAND Corporation, argued Beijing’s military buildup is limited to Asia and it has not sought to project power globally.

“Cumulatively, this is a substantial amount of money devoted toward military modernization. And it’s clearly a reflection of the Chinese government’s priorities and the fact that they seek to build a modern military with regional power projection capabilities,” Medeiros said.

In 2005, Medeiros said of China’s People’s Liberation Army: “Do the old shibboleths still apply – that the Chinese defense industry is backward, poor and low-quality?”

“No,” he continued. “It seems China has turned the corner. … For the first time in 20 years, the PLA has adopted reforms that make sense. They adopted, and implemented, and are really learning quickly.”

Medeiros that year was lead author of a 300-page RAND study, “New Directions for China’s Defense Industry.”

In 2002, he minimized China’s missile project, telling The Economist that the Chinese “don’t really see missiles as weapons of mass destruction while most American policymakers equate the two.”

In an article in the November-December 2003 issue of Foreign Affairs magazine, Medeiros, with analyst M. Taylor Fravel, presented the views of experts on Chinese foreign policy as stating China should overcome its long-held “victim mentality” and adopt a “great power mentality” instead.

Speaking to Knight Ridder in 2001, Medeiros stated, “The Chinese defense industrial base is very outdated and dilapidated, especially in these areas where warfare is headed.

“They don’t have the high technology to compete at all,” he said.

He stated China’s ships and planes, at least those not acquired from Russia, are outfitted with technology equal to what American forces had in the late 1960s or early 1970s.

“So if they ever got in a battle with the United States, we could destroy their forces before they ever saw us,” Medeiros added.

Still, Medeiros has incorporated criticism of China into his work. His 2005 RAND study, for example, said China “needs to do more to enforce its own controls.”

Stated the study: “China has erected a structure that has a strong legal basis to control exports of goods that can be used for making weapons of mass destruction, but it hasn’t devoted the necessary financial or political resources to make these controls effective.

“This is a persistent and glaring weakness,” the study said.

“The failed federal anti-gunrunning program known as Operation Fast and Furious got so out of control in November 2009, it appeared the U.S. government was single-handedly “arming for war” the Sinaloa Cartel, documents show, even as U.S. officials kept lying to fellow agents in Mexico about the volume of guns it helped send south of the border.

Those shocking allegations are revealed in the latest congressional report investigating the operation.

At one point, agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives say guns sold under the program took just 24 hours to travel from a gun store in Phoenix to a crime scene in Mexico. ATF agents there pleaded for help but were told nothing about Fast and Furious, which was intended to let guns “walk” in order to track them to higher-profile traffickers.

Meanwhile, the report claims the agents’ superiors in Washington met every Tuesday, to review the latest sales figures and the number of guns recovered in Mexico.

“How long are you going to let this go on?” Steve Martin, an assistant director of intelligence operations asked the ATF top brass at meeting Jan. 5, 2010, according to a transcript of the meeting contained in the congressional report. None of the men responded and several quickly left the room, the transcript reveals.

By Feb. 27, 2010, Lanny Breuer, the head of the Criminal Division of the Justice Department in Washington, D.C., was allegedly told that the ATF had successfully helped sell 1,026 weapons worth more than $650,000 to members of the Sinaloa cartel. The briefing included all top ATF officials, including the agents in charge in Los Angeles and Houston, as well as a half dozen top Justice Department attorneys.

“So there’s no doubt after this briefing that guns in this case were being linked to the Sinaloa cartel?” a congressional investigator asked Martin during a July 2011 interview.

“I’d say yes.” Martin replied.

“Very apparent to everyone in the room?” the investigator asked.

“That’s correct,” Martin said.

Meanwhile, ATF agents in Mexico were seeing a flood of weapons coming south. When asked, ATF brass told the resident ATF attaché in Mexico things were “under control.”

“They were afraid I was going to brief the ambassador on it or brief the government of Mexico,” said Darren Gil, former ATF attaché in Mexico.

For months, officials assured Gil that Fast and Furious was going to be “shut down,” but it wasn’t.

“We’re getting hurt down here,” Gil told ATF International Affairs Chief Daniel Kumor.

Kumor reportedly raised Gil’s concerns and was told the case “was going great,” and nothing happened until the death of Agent Brian Terry in December 2010.

Ironically, a year before, in December 2009, Southwest Border Czar Ray Rowley threatened to expose Operation Fast and Furious because of “the large number of guns that had already been trafficked” but ATF officials talked him out of it.

When the case was finally revealed in the press, Gil said, “never in my wildest dreams ever would I have thought of (gun walking) as an (investigative) technique. Never. Ever. It was just inconceivable to me.”

“You don’t lose guns. You don’t walk guns. You don’t let guns out of your sight.”

Gil also testified at a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing Tuesday where one ATF supervisor left members of Congress exasperated.

William Newell, who was formerly in charge of the Phoenix office, insisted that guns don’t walk despite the facts clearly showing they did, he knew it and approved it time and time again.

Newell said the purpose of the operation was to dismantle the entire Mexican cartel but agents testified they were not allowed to do that when they saw transfers of money and weren’t permitted to follow the money.

Lawmakers repeatedly tried unsuccessfully to nail Newell down.

“I acknowledge we made some mistakes,” Newell said when asked by committee’s chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa,R-Calif., whether he thought it was a good program.

“You were right on that,” Issa said.

Under fierce questioning from other lawmakers, Newell said that taking out “just one straw purchaser” has “no effect on the larger investigation.” 

The precise number of casualties in Mexico isn’t known, but ATF officials confirm the murder of Mario Gonzales Rodriguez, brother of the Chihuahua attorney general, with a Fast and Furious gun.

According to the report, the U.S. knew for eight months of the link between the ATF operation and his death, but refused to tell any Mexican officials. Finally the acting ATF attaché told the Mexican Attorney General Maricela Morales. Her reply, “Hijole,” which translates into “Oh my.”

“Iowa Rep. Steve King said Monday that President Obama could face impeachment if the country goes into default.

“Obama would be impeached if he blocked debt payments,” King, a Republican, wrote on Twitter.

King prefaced the comment by writing: “STOP talking about default. The 1st dime of each $1 of revenue services debt.”

His comments come as Obama is negotiating with Congress over a debt reduction package that includes raising the country’s debt limit by the August 2 deadline.

King ended the tweet with a reference to the Republican “Cut, Cap and Balance” plan he supports that passed in the House last week, but was killed in the Senate.

It would require spending cuts and caps along with a constitutional amendment for a balanced budget.”

I. Debt ceiling: Obama’s demagoguery vs economic reality!

“The current hot topic is yet another raise of the debt ceiling. The Demagogues, led by King Barack and Treasury Secretary Tim “tax cheat” Geithner, are trying to scare the country with threats of losing our AAA credit rating, and scaring seniors by threatening to withhold Social Security, and holding military pay hostage.  Never mind that according to Chris Whalen, a banking industry analyst and co-founder of Institutional Risk Analytics, the government can continue to pay off its debt for months before defaulting.

They are trying to use this to trick Republicans into agreeing to what Obama calls “balance”, but really means “more taxes”, in line with Obama’s ‘Redistribution of Wealth’ Radio Interview, 2001.  They hope the GOP will forget what happened when the first President Bush was tricked into violating his “Read my lips: no new taxes” pledge—by similar promises of spending cuts that never materialized.

Soaking the rich?

In a previous Patriot column, I pointed out that the “rich” are already being Taxed Enough Already.  A more recent Heritage blog, Soaking the Rich to Raise the Debt Ceiling Won’t Solve Spending Problem, pointed out:

The reality is often lost that the top 10 percent of income earners—those making more than $113,799 in 2008 (the latest year available from the IRS)—already pay 69.9 percent of the income taxes. The same top 10 percent, however, earn only 45.8 percent of the income.

The IRS also reports that in 2008, the top 25 percent of income earners—those earning $67,280 or more—pay 86.34 percent of the income taxes, yet earn only 67.38 percent of all income in the U.S.

Furthermore, the two greatest presidents of last century, Calvin Coolidge and Ronald Reagan raised government revenues by cutting tax rates, because people work harder and are more entrepreneurial when they can keep more of what they earn.  There is more money for hiring workers as well, which is why unemployment plummeted under these presidents.

Also, it should be obvious that low rates that are paid will probably gain more than high taxes that are avoided—mostly legally.  For example, Bloomberg.com estimates that American corporations have $1.5 trillion in cash sitting overseas.  If they brought it back home, they would be gouged at 35%, the highest corporate tax rate in the developed world.  But if it were reduced to 15%, say, then they are more likely to bring it back home and help our economy grow, and also enrich the Treasury by $200 billion!

But Obama is an ideologue, and an especially dishonest one.  His latest trick is to demagogue about jet planes:

If we do not have revenues, that means there are a bunch of kids out there who do not have college scholarships. … I’ve said to Republican leaders, you go talk to your constituents and ask them, ‘Are you willing to compromise your kids’ safety so some corporate-jet owner can get a tax break?’

However, he neglected to mention that the tax break for corporate jets came not from Republicans but from his own 2009 “stimulus” package, rammed through against Republican opposition.  It is really taking from the despot’s playbook to blame the opposition for one’s own failures!

And of course, it would ruin the rhetoric to talk actual figures.  The savings would be at most about $300 million a year, “less than one-tenth of 1 percent of Obama’s stated deficit-reduction target.”  And they “wouldn’t pay for even a month of those college scholarships he wants to fund (Annual cost: $42 billion.)”  And of course, most of the “rich” who Obama wants to tax-gouge are light years away from owning their own jets.  (I should say that I have no problem with getting rid of socialism for the rich, such as the ethanol scam.)

Because of the above analysis, it was most encouraging to see the recent Patriot column Boehner derails tax increase, Obama’s 2012 plan.  I’ve criticised him before for being too willing to appease the Debtocrats, so when he does something right, he deserves kudos from me, and support from the Tea Party.

It's the spending, stupid!

Despite Obama’s demagoguery, we don’t suffer from low tax revenue but from a government with out-of-control spending.  Economist Dr. Thomas Sowell puts all the left’s envy-mongering into perspective in his column Slaves to Words:

Even if the income tax rate were raised to 100 percent on millionaires and billionaires, it would still not cover the trillions of dollars the government is spending.

But Obama and the Dems have no desire to rein in this spending, even though this Keynesian spendulus hasn’t improved the economy.  Furthermore, it never has done so in history, and never could because the money is sucked out of productive sections of the economy.

For example, they refused to cut funds for the abortion and sex-trafficking business Planned Parenthood, founded by the racist eugenicist Margaret Sanger to eliminate what she called “human weeds”, including black people.  The House voted to defund this rotten organization, but the Dems said “nope” and the appeasing RINOs caved.

Obama also refuses to reconsider the trillions of dollars in new spending from Obamacare, or his other big-spending sprees on high-speed rail or “green energy”.

The Dem Senators voted on party line to reject the sensible Cut, Cap and Balance bill.  This just shows that  there is no longer such a thing as a “blue dog Democrat” (just as ramming through Obamacare and protecting Planned Parenthood showed that “pro-life Democrat” is now an oxymoron).  Rather, voting for a Democrat now always means a vote for fiscal irresponsibility and war against the unborn (see also previous Patriot column Why conservatives should hold their nose and vote Republican).

Credit rating:

The whole debate is a joke.  As Mark Steyn put it:

"There is something surreal and unnerving about the so-called ‘debt ceiling’ negotiations staggering on in Washington. In the real world, negotiations on an increase in one’s debt limit are conducted between the borrower and the lender. Only in Washington is a debt increase negotiated between two groups of borrowers."

Really, it’s like your teenager maxing out his credit card, and you increase his limit even more, rather than help him pay off his debt and control his spending so it’s less than his income.   As the fine new Conservative senator Mario Rubio explained (below), it’s the debt and spending that is endangering our credit rating, according to the credit agencies themselves:

Conclusion:

“BILL O’REILLY, FOX NEWS HOST: “Impact” segment tonight: mass murder in Norway. A vicious killer, Anders Breivik, has murdered at least 76 people in the Scandinavian nation of Norway. Breivik is a brutal fanatic who apparently objects to the presence of Muslims in Europe.

Last Friday he bombed buildings in Oslo and then took an automatic weapon to an island a few miles away gunning down 68 people. Norwegian authorities couldn’t get to the island because they didn’t have a helicopter, if you can believe it.

Now, on Sunday, the “New York Times” headlined “As Horrors Emerged, Norway Charges Christian extremist”. A number of other news organizations like the “LA Times” and Reuters also played up the Christian angle. But Breivik is not a Christian. That’s impossible. No one believing in Jesus commits mass murder. The man might have called himself a Christian on the net, but he is certainly not of that faith.

Also Breivik is not attached to any church, and in fact has criticized the Protestant belief system in general. The Christian angle came from a Norwegian policeman not from any fact finding. Once again, we can find no evidence, none, that this killer practiced Christianity in any way.

So why is the angle being played up?

Two reasons:

First, the liberal media wants to make an equivalency between the actions of Breivik and the Oklahoma City bomber Tim McVeigh and al Qaeda. The left wants you to believe that fundamentalists Christians are a threat just like crazy jihadists are.

In fact, in the “New York Times” today an analysis piece says that some believe we have overreacted to the Muslim threat in the world. Of course, that’s absurd. Jihadists have killed tens of thousands of people all over the world. The Taliban, Iran and elements in Pakistan use governmental power to support terrorism by Muslims. But the left-wing press wants to compare nuts like Breivik and McVeigh to state-sponsored terrorism and worldwide jihad.

Again, dishonest and insane.

The second reason the liberal media is pushing the Christian angle is they don’t like Christians very much because we are too judgmental. Many Christians oppose abortion. Gay marriage and legalized narcotics, secular left causes. The media understands the opposition is often based on religion. So they want to diminish Christianity and highlighting so-called Christian-based terror is a way to do that.

The primary threat to this world comes from Islamic terrorism. Iran is a major problem. If the country gets nuclear weapons and it’s desperately trying to, does anyone doubt those weapons could be used? A Muslim in Pakistan exported nuclear technology to North Korea. And Muslim suicide bombers blow innocent people up almost every day.

Yet, once again the liberal media wants you to fear Christian terrorists. And going forward when jihad is mentioned, you know Breivik and McVeigh will enter the conversation.

Sometimes I think the world is going mad. This Breivik guy is a loon, a mass murderer who apparently acted out of rank hatred. No government supported him. No self-proclaimed terror group like al Qaeda paid his bills. Breivik is just another loser who caused tremendous horror by murdering innocent people. There is no equivalency to jihad. No worldwide Breivik movement. Just another violent pathetic legacy stemming back to Cain.

I. The Norway Terrorist!

“A year or two ago I was at a dinner party where a gentleman and his wife confronted me about my writing on Islamic terrorism. “Why is it,” he asked irritably, “that terrorism is always called ‘Islamic’? What about ‘Christian’ terrorists?”

“Well, name a Christian terrorist,” I replied. I wasn’t being combative; I was genuinely curious to know whom they considered to be someone committing politically-driven murder and mayhem in the name of Jesus. The sentence was barely out of my mouth before the wife shot back, “

Timothy McVeigh.”

McVeigh’s bombing of a federal building in Oklahoma City took place sixteen years ago. Unlike Muslim fundamentalists who theologically justify their acts of terrorism, McVeigh can not rightly be characterized as a “Christian terrorist,” because he was, by his own admission, not a committed Christian, and he carried out the attack not because God or the Bible commanded him to, but because he hated the U.S. government.

And yet after all these years his name remains virtually the sole flimsy example that people have at the ready to challenge what they consider to be the stereotype of Islamic terrorism.

No more. Now a new McVeigh has arisen, a symbol that the Left and Islamic supremacists themselves will use to bludgeon Christian conservatives and critics of jihad for the next sixteen years – Anders Behring Breivik. Breivik is in police custody for carrying out what some are calling Norway’s “Oklahoma City,” a reference to McVeigh’s 1995 bombing, of course. Breivik, who claims to have acted alone, set off a massive bomb that devastated an Oslo government building and killed seven, then traveled to a nearby youth camp for hundreds of teen children of Labour Party politicians, where he proceeded to massacre as many as 90 of them with ruthless, methodical gunfire.

As the news began leaking out about Europe’s deadliest terror attack since the 2003 Madrid train bombing, there was a predictable – and perfectly reasonable – assumption on the part of terrorism experts, the media, and possibly anyone who follows the

Clash of Civilizations, that the perpetrators were Islamists. After all, there were plenty of reasons to suspect initially that these were acts of Islamic terrorism: at least one Islamist group initially claimed responsibility (but later retracted it); Muslim extremists cheered the attacks in online chatrooms; Norway is still a target of Islamists burning to avenge the Muhammad cartoons; legal action was finally taken against the radical Mullah Krekar whom Norway has been sheltering for years, and he threatened retaliation; al Qaeda tried to attack Oslo last year; and, frankly, most terrorism carried out worldwide today is at the hands of jihadists.

But the truth was a stunning reversal. Not only is the perpetrator a well-educated, boyishly blond, ethnic Norwegian, he is a self-described Christian conservative bent on sparking a Pan-European resistance movement to oppose – by violence if necessary – the corrosive forces of multiculturalism, Islamic immigration, and “cultural Marxism” that are destroying the fabric of European society and culture. It’s too soon to have all the facts –speculation, as usual, began flying at light-speed over the rumor-mongering internet, including the mystery of a fake Facebook page and the musing that Breivik is himself a jihadist posing as a Christian conservative. But as of this writing, the coldly rational Breivik has apparently confessed to what he described in a 1500-page manifesto as the “systematical and organized executions of multiculturalist traitors.”

But the tragedy won’t end at the lives lost in Norway. Bruce Bawer, the author of Surrender: Appeasing Islam, Sacrificing Freedom who lives in Norway, notes the broader concern that “legitimate criticism of Islam, which remains a very real threat to freedom in Norway and the West, has been profoundly discredited by association with this murderous lunatic.”

As the European anti-jihad blogger Fjordman puts it, Breivik has scored a major victory for his opponents. An agent provocateur seeking to discredit the right-wing conservative sliver of the European political spectrum would have a hard time doing a better job… It is the perfect excuse to persecute and silence opposing voices… We’re heading for dark days.

The Left – including the mainstream media, and stealth jihadists themselves, like the ubiquitous Muslim Brotherhood legacy group CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations – won’t even bother to contain its collective glee over the fact that Breivik is a “right-wing Christian.”

The narrative is already being constructed that will use him to tar everyone on the Right, particularly vocal critics of Islamic fundamentalism. This is the same Left that hijacks any and all discussions of Islamic terrorism by jumping up to insist that all Muslims must not be smeared because of the actions of a “tiny minority of extremists,” that not all terrorism is committed by Muslims and not all Muslims are terrorists. Of course, no responsible anti-jihadist has ever made such claims, but the Left never bothers to concede this.

By contrast, instead of living by the standards they demand of the Right, Leftists will now be perfectly happy to politicize Breivik’s terrorism and use him to tar everyone on the Right – Christians, conservatives, anti-jihadists, the Tea Party – everyone. And in fact, they have already begun attempting to link the Norway terrorist to Sarah Palin, of all people.

Breivik is a terrorist. His targeting of helpless schoolchildren makes him no better than the slaughterers at Beslan. But that doesn’t make everyone concerned about unfettered Islamic immigration, jihad, or the rapid disintegration of Europe’s cultural heritage a terrorist or even a sympathizer. There is no connection between the legitimate, courageous, lawful work of notable anti-jihadists and such evil.

No true Christian, conservative, or responsible critic of jihad would condone Breivik’s despicable, cowardly acts or deem them to be in accordance with our beliefs and values. Much less would we celebrate those acts, unlike our Islamist counterparts. But denouncements of Breivik will be purposefully ignored by the Left.

Nor does it make Islamic terrorism any less of a threat. But the Left will use Breivik to divert attention from worldwide jihad, to advance their cultural Marxism, and to demonize the defenders of freedom. To echo Fjordman, we are facing dark days. We must face them with the truth.”

I'm done with the two party system.I joined the Tea Party tonight.  American NEEDS a third party in Washington to stop the madness of our representatives not co-operating with each other and fighting for themselves and not for America.

How would Americans feel if they knew the Obama administration just agreed to hand people affiliated with a designated terrorist group a $30 billion dollar check and recognize them as the legitimate rulers of Libya?   Things weren’t looking so good for the  Libyan Islamic Fighting Group back in 2004when they were designated a foreign terrorist group by the State Department.  In chilling testimony, then-CIA Director George Tenet warned the Senate Intelligence Committee in 2004 that even if Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda was completely destroyed, “a global network of Islamic extremists bent on killing Americans had emerged.”  Tenet listed the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group (LIFG) as one of those groups.

In 2007, the LIFG formally joined al-Qaeda, an event so well documented that evenReuters covered it.  Its goals, which it is now close to achieving thanks to airpower help from President Obama and NATO, include killing Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi, setting up an Islamic caliphate in Libya and waging international jihad.   The known leaders of the Libyan rebel forces on the ground are all former LIFG fighters, some with documented personal connections to al-Qaeda.  The Transitional National Council, which the Obama administration recognized last week as the official government of Libya, is packed with pro-LIFG activists, lawyers who have advocated for imprisoned LIFG fighters, and Islamic scholars from LIFG strongholds.Something smells strongly of jihad here. 

What Americans have been told about Libya is that there were some protests, some people rebelled, and Gaddafi started killing them, so we had to intervene.  The media never got around to explaining that the people behind the “Day of Rage” protests in Libya that kicked off the civil war were supporters of the more than 1,000 LIFG fighters who were killed in a prison massacre in 1995 by Gaddafi after they attempted an uprising.  Gaddafi had jailed them to halt their jihadist takeover of the country and save his own skin.

The LIFG has waged jihad against American forces before.  Documents captured by allied forces in 2007 show LIFG fighters made up the second-largest cohort of jihadists battling in Iraq, after Saudi Arabia. After that, it appears that many of their military leaders transferred their expertise to Libya. Gaddafi is a brutal dictator with a long history of support for terror, but his ruthless zeal for taking out the LIFG and their fellow jihadists in the post-9/11 era was one of the reasons he was able to forge a relationship with the U.S. during the Bush administration. 

But that was then.  In a bizarre twist that defies explanation, under Obama, Gaddafi’s repression of LIFG sympathizers and allied jihadist rebel groups—the very people Tenet once warned us about—is now being used by NATO and the Obama administration to justify taking Gaddafi out and turning over the country’s wealth to the LIFG-connected leadership.  Over the past few years, Gaddafi made a series of fatal errors.  As part of a goodwill gesture aimed at quieting civil unrest in the deeply Islamic eastern part of the country, the Gaddafi family released hundreds of imprisoned LIFG fighters.  They immediately took up arms against his regime, declaring the eastern part of the county an Islamic caliphate.  Gaddafi had largely beaten the rebels and their sympathizers into submission when the unthinkable happened and the U.S. and NATO decided to intervene on their behalf, not his. Allegedly, this was to save some civilians or something.

Oddly though, one of the first things the U.S.-led coalition did when it invaded Libya in March was to help the rebels capture the oil fields.  If Libya’s radical Islamists can get their hands on that oil revenue, they will control oil fields capable of generating $34 billion worth of black gold a year.  You can sure fund a lot of jihad with that.  Earlier this year, a debate broke out over whether there were al-Qaeda fighters in the rebel ranks.  The answer the Washington establishment settled on was that there were “flickers” here and there.  But everyone was asking the wrong question. A better question would have been about the extent to which LIFG fighters were leading the ground battle. 

It is well-documented that a handful of former Gaddafi military leaders oversaw the rebellion in Libya.  But the actual training of troops and fighting on the ground was largely led by LIFG veteran fighters fresh from battling U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Among them were LIFG veteran fighters such as Abdul-Hakim al-Hasadi, who has admitted to fighting allied forces in Afghanistan and was turned over to Libya by the U.S. after his capture in 2002.  His field commander on the front lines, Salah al-Barrani, is also a well-known LIFG fighter.  Before serving as a Libyan rebel commander, former Guantanamo inmate Sufyan Ben Qumu, who was transferred to Libya in 2007, was named to the military committee of the LIFG in between stints training with al-Qaeda and fighting alongside the Taliban.

Fewer than half of the 33 members of the Transitional National Council (TNC), which the LIFG-led rebels now say they answer to, are even publicly known.  The rest have gone unnamed, supposedly to protect their families.  Several of those who are known have ties to or were supporters of the LIFG, did legal work for LFG fighters or advocated on their behalf when they were repressed by Gaddafi. A graduate student at the Monterey Institute of International Studies who did an extensive technical analysis of the new Libyan leadership warned that the radical Islamists are now one of three groups vying for power among the Obama-recognized Libyan leadership, and that TNC members already sympathetic to them might ally themselves with the radical jihadists to grow their power.

At stake?  Again, $30 billion in Gaddafi-frozen assets that the U.S. promised to turn over to the TNC, and Libya’s oil.  Senior militants in online chat rooms monitored by the West seem to know the score, and are urging a patient, long-term approach rather than a quick revolution, The Australianreports:  “One forum leader warns that declaring an Islamic emirate in Libya would prompt a Western invasion, and stresses instead that they should build up their military forces, ‘educate the people’ on the need for an Islamic state, ‘and then declare the emirate, with weapons, economy and a people ready to fight for Allah.’" That should be no problem with the billions provided by Obama and NATO to fund it all.

NEW YORK – A top Democrat, apparently operating with the full approval and cooperation of the president, has been directing a team of up to 100 who are paid to publish disinformation on a wide variety of websites to discredit “birthers,” according to anti-Obama researchers.

The radical supporters of the president, known as Obama robots, or “OBOTs” for short, have confirmed their White House-appointed ring leader is Democratic Party operative James A. Johnson, the former chairman of Fannie Mae.

Initially, the OBOTs attempted to mask their Internet identities by posting under usernames with avatars that suggest their personalities. But due largely to the efforts of anti-Obama researchers, including “birthers” vilified by the OBOTs, the true identities of key OBOT operatives have been revealed.

Remarkably, key OBOT operatives, including possibly Johnson himself, have tended over time to self-identify. Two OBOT usernames – “NeonZX” and “JimBot” – may have been usernames Johnson himself created to cover his tracks.

If “NeonZX” and “JimBot” are James A. Johnson, a link will have been established between the Obama White House at the topmost levels and a highly organized disinformation campaign, most likely financed by taxpayer funds. The campaign has been aimed at anyone who challenges Obama’s eligibility to be president under Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution.

WND contacted Johnson’s office for comment, but Johnson did not reply.

James A. Johnson as 'JimBot'?

Ed Hale, the Texas-based creator of Plains Radio, has told WND that Johnson, posting on various OBOT websites under the username “JimBot,” managed for the White House some 100 paid operatives around the country. Their primary job was to attack, refute and publish disinformation on any prominent “birthers.”

In an Internet forum called “Voice of America Broadcasting Network,” Hale posted the following on July 17:

Johnson’s office at Perseus LLC is located near the White House, at 2099 Pennsylvania Avenue.

The White House switchboard told WND that until recently, it answered calls for Johnson but that the practice had been discontinued.

In an attempt to verify Johnson’s sway with Obama, Hale said he told Johnson to have the president call a Michigan lady on her 110^th birthday. Indeed, Michigan resident Leola Washington received an acknowledgment card on her birthday from President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, as reported by KMOV-TV in St. Louis.

WND has found that Hale was incorrect in claiming the Maryland address listed in Hale’s post is Johnson’s address.

Did Johnson out himself on OBOT websites?

WND research indicates Johnson, posting under the username “NeonZX,” may, indeed, have confirmed that he is the hidden identity behind “JimBot.”

In several Internet postings, the person using “NeonZX” has stated that he is also the person using the username “JimBot.”

In a post on March 10, 2009, “NeonZX” identified himself as the “#1 Bot,” as seen in Exhibit 2:

“I’m the ‘#1 Obot,’” username “NeonZX” stated, claiming, “Most here know me or of me.”

Then in a chat room screen capture seen in Exhibit 3, “NeonZX” identified himself as “JimBot.”

The last and critical link was established by “NeonZX” in an Internet post Aug. 9, 2009, in which he identified “JimBot” as James A. Johnson, after Hale had made the same identification in a Plains Radio broadcast.

In the post, seen in Exhibit 4, “NeonZX” explains to a previous poster who noted that “JimBot” was James A. Johnson, “We learned Jimbot’s ‘true’ identity – he is rich and famous and has a grand home.”

If “NeonZX” is “JimBot” under a different username, the post amounts to a self-admission that “JimBot” is Johnson.

The article “NeonZX” referenced in his post linked back to a Minnesota Post article published on June 11, 2008,reporting that James A. Johnson, described as “a classic behind-the-scenes dealmaker in Washington, D.C., was no longer part of the three-person team involved in Obama’s vice presidential search effort, after the Wall Street Journal published embarrassing articles documenting VIP home loans Johnson had personally received from sub-prime lender Countrywide Financial while he headed Fannie Mae.

On Aug. 9, 2009, as seen in Exhibit 5, “NeonZX” posted a second time regarding Johnson, further confirming that “JimBot” worked for the White House, but not in the White House. The description that fits the location and nature of Johnson’s working relationship with the White House, dating back to the assistance he gave Obama in the 2008 vice presidential search process.

Who is James A. Johnson?

From 1991 to 1998 Johnson was chairman and CEO of the government-sponsored mortgage giant Fannie Mae.

WND reported that Johnson earned $21 million in his final year alone at Fannie Mae, despite irregularities cited by theOffice of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight as constituting accounting improprieties.

The current New York Times bestselling book by Gretchen Morgenson and Joshua Rosner, entitled “Reckless Endangerment: How Outsized Ambition, Greed and Corruption Led to Economic Armageddon,” blames Johnson for engineering much of the sub-prime housing crisis that led to the financial meltdown in late 2008.

Johnson has contributed to Obama since 2004. In 2008, he was a bundler responsible for raising in excess of $200,000 for the Obama presidential campaign.

He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Trilateral Commission and the American Friends of Bilderberg.”
