A Central American Marshall Plan Won’t Work

{foreignpolicy.com} ~ Since late January, thousands of would-be asylum applicants have been held up just outside of the U.S. border with Mexico, where they have been forced to wait their turn to speak to U.S. Customs and Border Protection... The growing humanitarian situation—camps for migrants are overcrowded, unhygienic, and dangerous—has renewed focus on Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s call for a Central American Marshall Plan, through which $30 billion would be channeled toward regional development in an effort to ease migration pressures. López Obrador, popularly known as AMLO, has set a goal of funding the plan by May, and U.S. President Donald Trump, eager to halt immigration to the United States, agreed to participate to the tune of $5.8 billion. Addressing the root causes of migration—insecurity, violence, and lack of opportunity—makes sense. Both the United States and Mexico should want to ensure that emigration is an option for Central Americans rather than a necessary step to a life of dignity. However, López Obrador’s strategy rests on a common misunderstanding of the realities of the original Marshall Plan. Namely, it was not an infusion of cash that caused a European resurgence but a targeted investment that channeled and amplified an economic recovery that was already underway. It did so by placing significant restraints on the policies of recipient countries, prohibiting the nationalization of companies, and mandating strict exchange rate controls, balanced budgets, and intrusive checks on national economic policy. As a result, the $17 billion nearly $200 billion in 2019 dollars that the United States invested in Europe between 1948 and 1951 became a concerted effort to build resilient political and economic institutions that last to this day. There are reasons to be skeptical that a López Obrador-Trump partnership would do the same. First, both López Obrador and Trump have demonstrated disdain for the kinds of political institutions Central America must bolster. For his part, López Obrador reveres and patterns himself after the great revolutionaries of Mexico’s past, who preferred to lead by imposition and knew nothing of checks and balances. It is telling that one of his first major political maneuvers—an attempt to address large-scale petroleum theft—involved placing the Mexican armed forces in charge of combating corruption. The move might have been crafted to signal his seriousness, but it demonstrated that López Obrador lacked the will to undertake the painstaking work of building strong and independent institutions that could effectively regulate industries and manage corruption in the long term. Indeed, López Obrador has centralized executive power at the expense of the judiciary and legislature, run roughshod over the country’s federal system by appointing loyal superdelegates to try to displace governors and mayors, and engaged in a broader offensive against independent government institutions that pose a challenge to his accumulation of power by cutting their budgets and hollowing out their bureaucratic personnel...

Trump threatens veto as House Dems ready sweeping campaign finance, ethics package

{foxnews.com} ~ House Democrats are preparing to vote Friday on a sweeping ethics and campaign finance reform package known as the For the People Act... and in response the White House issued its second veto threat of the year on Tuesday, calling the proposal a reckless move that would increase opportunities for rampant voter fraud and chill free speech. The bill, known as H.R. 1, purportedly aims to eliminate “culture of corruption in Washington” and to reduce the role of money in politics. It would make it easier for citizens to register and vote, tighten election security, and establish a small-donor public matching system in congressional elections. In a direct shot at Trump, the bill would require presidents to release at least 10 years’ worth of tax returns. The bill also would ban executive-branch officials from lobbying their old agency for two years after they leave government, and reauthorize and enhance the Office of Government Ethics, which has clashed with Trump. Additionally, the Act would require groups like the Chamber of Commerce that spend more than $10,000 on political messaging to disclose the identity of their contributors who gave more than $10,000 -- prompting several business groups to raise concerns about their ability to communicate with politicians. "The $10,000 donor threshold appears designed to target business organizations while largely sparing labor organizations from disclosure of their funding sources, which are typically union dues that are far less than $10,000," Neil Bradley, the executive vice president and chief policy officer at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce business lobbying group, told reporters on Tuesday...

Saving the American Dream for the Millennials

Moreover, most Millennials favor a greater degree of government interference in ordinary life and are skeptical of cultural conservatism. In sum, most of the Millennials today are radically more left-wing than previous generations. Conservatives lampoon the Millennials; the “mainstream” media talks about my generation as if they’re from another planet. But, few ever attempt to understand why the Millennials are so radically left-wing. The Millennials grew up in a schizophrenic period. Most were reared in public schools that were nothing more than left-wing reeducation camps. At these schools, Millennials were taught about how both special they were and how guilty they should feel about their country. Then, the Millennials at young ages were jarred into reality by the terrifying events of 9/11. Many of the older cohort of Millennials signed up and endured inconclusive and wasteful Mideast wars, such as those in Afghanistan and Iraq. After that, the Millennials — all of whom grew up in an environment that demanded they go to college, no matter what — found themselves graduating college with mostly useless degrees and staggering levels of debt. More importantly, the Great Recession of 2008 had basically destroyed any hope of a stable financial future for these people. Let us also not forget that, in order to go to college, many students took out onerous student loans that, with the economic collapse in 2008, meant that Millennials would have an even more difficult time paying down their debts. And, thanks to the chicanery of lobbyists representing credit agencies in 2005, former President George W. Bush signed a law making it impossible to discharge student debt in bankruptcy. Seemingly overnight, the Millennials were made into perennial debtors. This was not only an injustice, but it would also have a severe drag on the economy in the decades to come... The Right must go farther and recognize the need to address the budding student loan crisis.

Also widely believed: That the arc of history bends toward justice — or at least in some meaningful direction. Such historical determinism is supported by no evidence whatsoever as far as I’m aware. A related article of faith is that nations evolve, eventually becoming liberal democracies. It’s true that Germany and Japan transformed after World War II. But that was the result of unequivocal defeat and prolonged American occupation. Meanwhile, as suggested above, post-Soviet Russia remains decidedly illiberal and undemocratic. As for nations that used to be either Soviet constituent republics or Soviet vassal states, the jury is still out. Conventional wisdom has long held that when people become wealthier, when they gain economic power, they demand political power to go with it. And they get it because those in charge conclude that governing through consent is preferable to ruling through fear. Blue States Ready to Subvert Electoral College

Lewis Morris: Rather than produce a top-quality presidential candidate who loves America and respects the Constitution, Democrats are working on a way to circumvent the Electoral College, the method by which we have elected presidents of the United States since 1789. Article 2, Section 1 lays out the system. But like most other aspects of constitutional Rule of Law, leftists hold it in contempt.

The movement is called the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, and late last month it suckered in Colorado to join its ranks. Democrat Gov. Jared Polis said he would sign the bill, making Colorado the 13th state to join.

“I’ve long supported electing the president by who gets the most votes,” Gov. Polis said. “It’s a way to move towards direct election of the president.”

Sorry, Governor, but you are woefully misinformed. “Direct” election of the president is exactly what we don’t want. It wasn’t a goal in the Constitution, and it shouldn’t be a goal now. Had we gone that way in 2016, scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton would have become president on the strength of her vote totals based almost exclusively on a handful of major urban hubs. Certainly not a candidate representative of the whole nation.

Leftists would love a national popular vote for president. It would most assuredly give rise to greater voter fraud, further fracturing of the political system, and, despite leftist claims, reduced power of individual votes.

The weapon of choice in their effort to destroy one of our last vestiges of federalism is the Compact. You may recall that the Compact, which began in 2007, calls on its state signatories to pledge their electoral votes in presidential elections to whichever candidate wins the national popular vote.

The Compact goes into effect when there are enough states on board to reach 270 electoral votes. It currently has 181. It’s unlikely to reach the magic number by the 2020 election, but it hopes to be a game changer by 2024. Fortunately, the Compact has pretty much exhausted the pool of true-blue states, making the going tougher for states with split legislatures that are solid red. Republican voters in general don’t have a problem with the Electoral College.

Leftist attempts to abolish the Electoral College are not rooted in concern for individual votes or democracy or anything else. This is evident in the hypocrisy of their scheme and the reasoning behind it.

According to the Compact, states will award electors to whomever wins the popular vote, even if that state voted for another candidate. By definition, this goes against the stated purpose of the Compact: to see that everyone’s votes are counted. Of course, 12 of the 13 states pledged to the compact all voted for both Al Gore in 2000 and scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton in 2016. (Colorado voted for George W. Bush in 2000 and is the first state to join the Compact that has voted for a Republican presidential candidate at least once in the last 19 years.)

These states are reliably blue in recent decades and for the foreseeable future, so it may seem that there isn’t really much at stake. But what about states that are purple, or even red? What would you think as a voter if the majority of your state voted for one candidate, but the state decided that, since the other candidate won the national vote, your vote was being awarded to someone you did not support? You wouldn’t feel like your vote mattered, that’s for sure.

If anything, 2016 proves that we do need an Electoral College. scumbag/liar-Clinton almost had it locked up by campaigning in only a handful of urban areas — mostly the big blue vote buckets like LA, NYC, Chicago, and San Francisco.

None of this can be explained to leftists, though. They cannot win in the arena of ideas, so they want to change the rules of the game. So far, they have been very clever about exploiting the so-called problems of the Electoral College. The first thing to remember is that there is no problem with the Electoral College. Except if you are a Democrat who can only win by pitting segments of the nation against one another.

Dems Launch Phase Two of 'Obstruct

Thomas Gallatin: On Monday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Rep. scumbag-liar Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) launched a second wave of the Democrats’ long-running attempt to take down President Donald Trump. Using a dragnet approach, scumbag-liar Nadler sent requests to more than 80 individuals, agencies, and entities for documents related to Trump’s personal, business, and political life, with the hope of finding something — anything — to justify impeaching the president. While admitting there was no evidence yet uncovered to support the allegation that Trump has actually engaged in any criminal activity, scumbag-liar Nadler asserted, “Our goal is to hold the administration accountable for the obstruction of justice, the abuse of power and the corruption.”

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders had a different take, however, as she unmasked the Democrats’ real motives: “They’re not after the truth. They are after the president.”

Rep. Doug Collins, the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, deftly called out the Democrats for their obvious witch hunt, stating, “We don’t even know what the dirty cop-Mueller report says, but Democrats are already hedging their bets. After recklessly prejudging the president for obstruction, Chairman scumbag-liar Nadler is pursuing evidence to back up his conclusion because, as he admits, ‘We don’t have the facts yet.’”

A few things to be pointed out regarding this predictable action taken by House Democrats:

First and most significantly,scumbag-liar Nadler’s actions make it patently clear that Democrats have determined dirty cop-Robert Muller’s forthcoming investigation report into the Trump/Russia collusion conspiracy will be a giant nothingburger.

Second, it exposes the fact that Democrats are primarily committed to pursuing political power over and against what is good for the country. They care little for the consequences their actions may have on the economy, foreign policy, the Constitution, and future elections.

Third, Democrats have coalesced and hardened around their number-one political issue: hatred of Trump. He must be hampered and obstructed at every turn, with the goal of either seeing him impeached or so politically damaged that he fails to win reelection. Since this is the course Democrats are committed to chart through 2020, expect only more of this politically motivated obstructionism from the donkeys. ~The Patriot Post

I don’t think so, and neither do many parents who have contacted me... That’s why I sponsored LD 589, proposed legislation directing the state board of education to draft a Code of Ethics for K-12 teachers. Simply put, the Code of Ethics would forbid teachers from endorsing candidates as part of their classroom instruction, from introducing controversial material not germane to the subject being taught, and generally from using their classrooms as bully pulpits for political, social or religious advocacy. The bill I sponsored is based on model legislation drafted by the David Horowitz Freedom Center. There’s abundant evidence that students in Maine’s K-12 government schools are being subjected to Leftist indoctrination in the classroom. “Progressive” teachers, administrators, and textbook publishers have been working overtime to ensure that students practice “correct thinking” on subjects such as racial guilt, gender identity, illegal immigration, and other controversial issues. As soon as the Code of Ethics bill was referred to the Education committee for a public hearing in late February, all the usual suspects announced their opposition. The head of the statewide teachers’ union insisted that teachers never engage in political advocacy in the classroom, while the far-Left ACLU defended the right of teachers to do exactly that... This is indoctrination not education.

Black History Month: What Do Black

People Actually Want?

by Patrick Hampton: Black History Month is over — a month in which some say we are to acknowledge the many achievements and accolades acquired by African Americans throughout history. During this time, Americans are surrounded by echoes of the past, and these words of affirmation and ethnic pride are to whisper the secrets of a better future for black Americans today.

But a series of events occurring this February has me questioning the direction that we as a society — a “black” society — are taking. It has me wondering if we are ready to move forward — especially those of “us” on the Left.

Hardly a way to start a month-long observance of blackness, news surfaced surrounding the Jussie Smollett controversy in Chicago. But it only took a few days to unveil the true face of his claims — a race-baiting hoax attempt perpetrated by two Nigerian brothers. As rapper Cardi B so bluntly put it, Smollett “F-ed Up” Black History Month. I tend to agree with her sentiments, calling into question whether this is (perhaps coincidentally) the time to stage a fake hate crime when so much evil is already being afflicted on black Americans, especially those in Democrat-run towns.

While everyone was reeling over Smollett’s fictional crisis, 30 people were shot — in the very same city — in only a short three-hour timeframe. Eleven of the victims were teenagers. One was just 11 years old. Still, Democrats and leftists who run that town have done little if anything to resolve the out-of-control crime plaguing black families. The Windy City has become our nation’s epicenter of the black-on-black crime for decades. How many more Februarys need to pass before our black Chicagoans can partake in the prosperity promised by their forefathers?

Meanwhile, Democrats voted against legislation to prevent newborns and full-term babies from being aborted, knowing good and well that the black population is disproportionately affected by this. All of this occurring in the same month that is said to celebrate being black. Can we look in the mirror and ask ourselves if more aborted black babies is a celebration of blackness?

These incidents are vivid examples of what happens when a Democrat drives a bus full of people forward while teaching them to look back through the rear window. Democrats refuse to look ahead at the lives and potential right in front of them. They only want black people to see the death and destruction behind them and not the cliff straight ahead.

As I reflect on Black History Month, I ask whether this what black history is all about — a diversion to keep black people focusing on the past while letting the present and future slip from their grasp.

Fortunately, the month rounded out with beacons of hope — not surprisingly from the Right. President Donald Trump greeted hundreds of black attendees during a Black History Month reception at the White House. During the event, he announced that black unemployment is down to its lowest ever and that he plans to create more opportunities for people of all races.

These gestures from the Right are why so many black people are leaving the Democrat plantation. They see with clearer eyes who truly has their best interests at heart.

As Candace Owens so brilliantly stated, a virus has spread throughout black America. That virus is victimhood, as people are infected by an ideology that only programs them to embrace entitlement while the world crumbles around them. The antidote? A hearty dose of conservative American values and the true knowledge about those who have historically had our best interests at heart — the Right.

With February behind us, concerned black Americans across the political spectrum are facing a fork in the road. And it’s up to us to choose the best direction for ourselves and decide who truly is in our corner — not just during one month or holiday, but every single day, all year round.

Liberals claim to believe in “equality” and standing up for the “little guy” in the face of bullies... but a movement gaining steam in blue states is putting that in doubt. Frustrated that they didn’t win in 2016, the left has a new plan: Sidestep the Constitution and effectively get rid of the Electoral College. Colorado is the latest state to jump on board. Last week, Democratic Gov. Jared Polis announced that he would sign a bill which basically re-writes the electoral process, and could pave the way to letting big cities dominate every future presidential election. The liberal called the Electoral College an “undemocratic relic,” apparently believing that he knows better than the Founding Fathers. “I’ve long supported electing the president by who gets the most votes,” Polis declared on Feb. 24, according to The Hill. That plan would force Colorado’s electors — the people who actually cast the official votes for president — to side with whichever candidate wins the national popular vote, no matter what. By changing the regulations at the state level but still using puppet electors, liberals would avoid amending the Constitution to get their way. “It’s a way to move towards direct election of the president,” Polis said. At first glance, it’s no big deal. Democracy means that people vote and the person with the most votes wins, right?... This change has not been voted by a 2/3 vote in congress to make changes to the U.S. constitution.

On Saturday, Trump addressed the CPAC crowd, giving a 72-minute speech that laid out his “America First” agenda. It was classic Trump. At one point he noted, “I’m totally off script right now. And this is how I got elected — by being off script.” Here are a few excerpts:

Our movement and our future in our country is unlimited. I think we’re going to do even better in 2020.
We’re reclaiming our nation’s priceless heritage.
No planes. No energy. When the wind stops blowing, that’s the end of your electric. [The Green New Deal] would force the destruction or renovation of virtually every structure in the United States. Perhaps nothing is more extreme than the Democrat plan to take over American energy.
Democratic lawmakers are now embracing socialism. They want to replace individual rights with total government domination. Socialism is not about the environment. It’s not about justice. It’s not about virtue. Socialism is about only one thing — it’s called power for the ruling class.
The future does not belong to those who believe in socialism. The future belongs to those who believe in freedom. I have said it before, and I will say it again: America will never be a socialist country.
We need an immigration policy where people coming in will love our country and love our fellow citizens. And this includes shutting down sanctuary cities.
I just returned from Vietnam, where I had very productive meetings with Kim Jong-un. I had to walk. Because every once in a while you have to walk. The deal wasn’t a deal that was acceptable to me.

The dud that will blow up Washington

{washingtonexaminer.com} ~ Special counsel dirty cop-Robert Mueller’s final report is said to be close to completion and ready for submission to the Justice Department... There is even conjecture that it is already finished, but dirty cop-Mueller decided, or was perhaps persuaded by newly confirmed Attorney General William Barr, to delay submission until President Trump returns from the Southeast Asia talks with North Korean strongman Kim Jong Un. In a perfect world, the final report would be a nonevent. Alas, that is not our world, so dirty cop-Mueller’s conclusion will be only the beginning of a free-for-all, featuring Washington hypocrisy at its worst. The special counsel has conducted a legal probe, but the Trump-Russia narrative has always been political, more about ramifications for 2020 than accountability for 2016. In that imaginary, perfect world, the dirty cop-Mueller report would be a nonevent for three reasons. First and foremost, the report should not tell us much that we do not already know. Of course, there are fascinating facts to be learned. What was the precise nature of “collusion” between the Kremlin and the Trump campaign? What exactly happened at the Trump Tower meeting between top campaign officials and a lawyer connected to the Putin regime — the meeting at which Donald Trump Jr. expected to receive information that might devastate scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton’s candidacy, but that we’ve been led to believe was a dud? Did the president obstruct the Russia investigation by firing FBI Director scumbag-James Comey? Did he obstruct justice by earlier leaning on scumbag-Comey to drop the investigation of retired Gen. Michael Flynn, the national security adviser Trump had just fired for allegedly misleading Vice President Mike Pence about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S.? All interesting questions. But they’re not supposed to be answered publicly unless charges are filed. The media-Democrat complex has been extremely supportive of dirty cop-Mueller in hopes that he would transcend what, in the end, is his modest role: that of prosecutor. Democrats prefer to see him as counsel to a congressional impeachment committee, on the hunt for high crimes and misdemeanors, unconstrained by the federal penal code. Or even better, as an investigative journalist in the Bob Woodward mold, preparing a mini-bio on the thousand reasons Trump is unfit for the duties of his high office. Or at the very least, be a special prosecutor modeled on Democrats’ scumbag/liar-Clinton-era bete noire, independent counsel Kenneth Starr. To be sure, Democrats and their punditocracy had no use for Starr back in the day, vilifying his every move, ridiculing his inflation of “lies about sex” into a “constitutional crisis.” But that was then. For present purposes, Starr is an exemplary historical figure because he produced a mammoth narrative that served as the road map to impeachment. What they loathed at the time, they will demand now...

Andrew Weissmann’s Misconduct In Enron Case

{thefederalist.com} ~ Nearly four months ago, Houston-based attorney Kevin Fulton filed, on my behalf, a motion to unseal records in a case headed by Andrew Weissmann... who is now a member of Special Counsel dirty cop-Robert Mueller’s team. Late Thursday, a federal district court judge in Texas granted with one exception, the motion to unseal, making some of those documents publicly available for the first time. The sealed records involved the Enron case Weissmann oversaw prior to his abrupt departure from the Enron Task Force in the middle of jury deliberations. Given Weissmann’s current role as dirty cop-Mueller’s “pit bull,” revisiting the allegations of misconduct leveled against the prosecutor—with the benefit of the entire unsealed record—promotes transparency and the public’s interest in trusting the integrity of the special counsel’s team. The now unsealed records expose efforts by Weissmann, and the Enron Task Force he led, to intimidate witnesses and to interfere in the attorney-client relationship of a cooperating witness. Several affidavits unsealed last week catalogued veiled threats made to witnesses the Enron defendants sought to interview. However, because many of the attorneys would speak only off the record to Enron’s attorneys, the courts refused to consider the affidavits sufficient to prove prosecutorial misconduct. Two attorneys, however, were willing to testify. In a just-unsealed affidavit, one lawyer stated that an FBI agent working for the Enron Task Force overseen by Weissmann warned his client against talking to the Enron defense team because “those are bad guys.” The second attorney stated that an FBI agent had made veiled threats against his client in a separate Enron trial... Democrats Need To Bounce Rep. Ilhan Omar

This new Congress has raised all sorts of questions I never knew I needed to be answered... such as: How many blatantly anti-Semitic comments can a Democratic rising star make before members of her own party criticize her? And how many such statements can she make before Democrats take any action? Minnesota’s Rep. Ilhan Omar has helped answer that first question. Apparently, a member of Congress must find herself at the center of not one, but two anti-Semitic tweet controversies in the course of three weeks. It wasn’t Omar’s 2012 tweet charging that Israel had hypnotized the world, but her alleging that members of Congress support a strong U.S.-Israel relationship because they’ve been bribed that summoned a strong response. The House Democratic leadership issued a statement denouncing the relevant tweets the following day. Notably, however, there was no mention of Omar resigning her seat on the powerful House Foreign Affairs Committee (HFAC) in that text. Nor did any Democrat on HFAC choose to respond on the record after those incidents, when I sought comment. Top Jewish groups just this morning demanded that Omar be removed from the committee. When CNN’s Manu Raju queried House Speaker Nancy Pulosi, she responded, “A newcomer member of Congress has apologized for her remarks. It took them what, 13 years to notice Steve King?” Now, Republicans could have moved faster in removing King from his committee positions, but they did finally act... Then how fast will they remove Omar?

A Project to Transform France

{gatestoneinstitute.org} ~ After sixteen Saturday demonstrations by the "yellow vests," who began in November by protesting French President Emmanuel Macron's increase in fuel prices, the controversy seems to have taken a darker turn... That seems to have come to light on February 13, when a small group of demonstrators started hurling insults at a French Jewish philosopher, Alain Finkielkraut -- who was born in and lives in Paris -- after they spotted him on a sidewalk. One man, shouted, "Shut up, dirty Zionist sh*t," "Go home to Tel Aviv," "France is ours," "God will punish you." A cameraman filmed the incident, then shared the video on social networks. A scandal ensued. The "yellow vests" movement as a whole was immediately accused by the French government of anti-Semitism and "fascism". Finkielkraut claimed that he had not been attacked as a Jew, but as a supporter of the State of Israel. He then added that the man who had insulted him did not speak like a "yellow vest" and that the words "God will punish you" is an expression from "Islamic rhetoric". Police who watched the video identified the man as a radicalized Muslim, and the next day arrested him. In the days leading up to that incident, several anti-Semitic acts had taken place in and near Paris. The German word "juden" [Jews] was painted on the front of a Jewish bakery; swastikas were drawn with a black marker on portraits of former Jewish minister Simone Veil; trees that had been planted in memory of Ilan Halimi, a young Jew who had been kidnapped, tortured and murdered in 2006, were destroyed. Investigations have begun but nothing so far has shown any relationship between the "yellow vests" movement and any of these anti-Semitic acts. The French government nevertheless continues accusing the "yellow vests" of being at least partly to blame...

Trump Derangement Syndrome Persists

{tommclaughlin.blogspot.com} ~ Platform or personality? When deciding for whom to vote, how much weight does each carry in voters’ minds? Is it more important to agree with candidates than to like them? What if you like them but you don’t concur on the issues? As I’ve listened to people in the four years since Donald Trump first announced his candidacy for president it has become evident among his detractors that hatred for him as a man far outweighs whatever his performance has been as president. Trump’s supporters, however, care more about what he does than about what he says or tweets.

Trump supporters cringed when he said he got the most electoral votes since Ronald Reagan because a quick search reveals that he didn’t. His egotism is so enormous that the presidency with its all its ego-stroking perks cannot satisfy it, but his favorability ratings climb nonetheless. Trump’s base is satisfied because he’s doing what he said he would do, like appointing conservative judges to the courts, cracking down on illegal immigration, and reining in China’s illegal trade practices.

That drives the left and the media — which Trump supporters see as conjoined twins — absolutely bonkers because they not only hate Trump, they also disagree with him on the issues. Rather than criticize his policy positions though, they fire ad hominem salvos — continuously. Trump is racist, sexist, xenophobic, they insist, and so are those who voted for him. Leftist politicians and media have done little else throughout Trump’s presidency, but the effect has been the opposite of what they intend. Rather than drive them apart, relentless criticism of both the president and his base drives them closer together.

Some Trump supporters wish he would consult with staff before talking or tweeting. If he didn’t trip over his own tongue so much he could have implemented more of his agenda by now, they believe, and who could argue? Others say they held their nose voting for him in 2016 but have since grown to like him in spite of the dumb things he says. As Senator and former opponent, Lindsay Graham said last week at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC): “We have a lot in common; I like him and he likes him.”

The dirty cop-Mueller report is due any time now but many are beginning to realize that it will have no evidence of Trump collusion with Russia in the 2016 election. However, Democrats won a majority in the US House last November and with that comes control of key committees, so Democrat chairmen are using subpoena power to scrutinize Trump on many fronts. Will they find anything with which to impeach the president?

It’s hard to believe they will considering that media coverage of Trump has been more than 90% negative and they’ve been looking everywhere for negative things to report. The two-year dirty cop-Mueller investigation has probed so many areas far afield from its original charge of investigating Russian collusion that we have to wonder what’s left to investigate. It seems clear now that removing Trump from office is the goal for Democrats and if there’s no Russian collusion, they’ll look for something else.

Meanwhile, Democrats who want to run against him are voluminous and more announce almost every day. They’re promising the moon: free tuition, free medical care, government jobs for everyone, money for those unwilling to work, reparations for descendants of slaves and Indians, and rebuilding every single structure in the whole country. When asked how to pay for all that, they say they’ll tax the rich and print money.

Meanwhile, the national debt has reached $22 trillion, eclipsing annual GDP — Gross Domestic Product — the sum total of all economic activity in the country. Some of us remember that twenty years ago President scumbag/liar-Clinton and a Republican Congress worked together to balance the federal budget and even talked about spending the surplus to actually pay down the national debt rather than keep adding to it every year.

Trump’s tax cuts have stimulated the economy and government revenues are rising, but government is expanding even faster and so is the annual deficit. It’s growing at about $1 trillion a year again. This used to used to be a big issue for Republicans though doesn’t seem to be anymore ever since Trump took office. Americans paid $523 billion interest on the debt in 2018 and that will keep rising. How long can this go on?

All of us know how much we make and how much we spend — what happens when we spend more than we make. There’s a limit to how much debt we can sustain before it seriously cramps our lifestyle. We don’t need degrees in political science or economics to understand the same is true for our country no matter what part of the political spectrum we occupy.

I suppose this happened because in the week that a foolish black American actor cooked up a foolish hate crime hoax... I had positive exchanges with black people. One was a black woman who was unimpressed with the brouhaha over KKK hoods and blackface. The other was a guy at the gym who wanted to correct my swing on a weight machine. It's amazing, but this man used the Scott Adams technique of persuasion: he reeled off his credentials, that he had been 20 years in the service and was a fitness instructor, rather than suggest that my gym technique was racist. This is what I want to say to black Americans. Please, my fellow Americans, forget the race issue. I ask you to do this not for me, or for the rest of my fellow deplorable Americans. I ask you to do it for you. I ask you to do this, because until you do, you will never come into your rightful inheritance as full Americans; you will remain the Little Darlings of the liberal white ruling class, their special pets seething with the resentment they have carefully taught you and voting from year to year 90 percent for Democrats. The West’s Blind Approach to Hezbollah

No, it was not some Israeli or American hawk, eager to crush Iran's chief proxy force in Lebanon. On the contrary, Ammar Moussawi, the head of Hezbollah's international relations, uttered those words in 2013, when the European Union blacklisted the group's "military wing" as a terrorist organization, excluding its "political" activities as part of a separate, benign entity. Six years later, the EU still separates Hezbollah's so-called political arm from its militancy, drawing an arbitrary line between the two that does not exist. Apparently leaders in Brussels think they understand Hezbollah better than Hezbollah itself. They are not alone. German Chancellor Angela Merkel's administration also seems to see the mythical line neatly dividing Hezbollah's military and political wings. After the United Kingdom banned Hezbollah in its entirety last week, Berlin refused to follow suit. American sources familiar with Germany's thinking told the Jerusalem Post that Berlin does not ban the Shi'ite Islamist group's political arm because it is "linked to Israel-Palestinian peace talks." The same sources also told the newspaper last year that Germany considers the Trump administration too pro-Israel. Yet a spokesman for the German Interior Ministry said Monday that "the entire Hezbollah is against the idea of international understanding in the sense of the Basic Law, because it fights the right of existence of the state of Israel with terrorist means." The spokesman added, "Such an objective is anti-Semitic in nature." So the German government is hesitant to ban all of Hezbollah because of its role in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but also acknowledges that the group seeks Israel's destruction. If those ideas sound contradictory, that is because they are. Perhaps Merkel can explain how an entity dedicated to destroying the Jewish state can play a beneficial role in the peace process...

Methodists Hold Firm to Scripture ... for Now

The recent vote within the United Methodist Church (UMC) to affirm its stance against homosexuality and other sexual perversions rejected the “One Church Plan” that would’ve embraced not only homosexuality but the entire spectrum of LGBTQ activism. This “progressive” plan was presented by the Methodists’ bishops and leading clergy that was permissive of same-sex marriages and the ordination of LGBTQ pastors but failed to win adequate support among the delegates meeting in St. Louis last week to represent the church’s more than 12 million global members.

The surprise was to the leaders within the denomination and the media who seemed to be at a loss that a church, organized to teach the Bible and function as a modern-day body of Jesus Christ, would have the audacity to stick to Biblical teachings rather than embrace a cultural acceptance that is identified in Scripture, along with many other acts, as sin.

According to reports, three plans were presented to the assembled delegation to be enacted as governance for local churches: The One Plan, the Traditional Plan, or the Simple Plan supported by the Queer Clergy Caucus (no, we’re not making that up). The Traditional Plan was finally adopted, maintaining the prohibitions of homosexual or otherwise gender-confused leadership or marriages,. What seems to be at the center of all these plans really transcends the one issue of homosexuality and this one denomination.

The unanswered question is this: Do churches organize, operate, and grow based on the Biblical function as the Body of Christ — one that is called to live as a redeemed membership, forgiven through mercy, but called to a life set apart to be “in this world, not of it”? Clearly, this conflict, whether Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, Catholic, or whatever, runs as a common thread throughout the tapestry of today’s faith communities. Do we teach Christ or culture?

Let’s review a few statements from last week’s events that reflect the divide, which, while on display in the UMC, is within every organized religious body.

Horatio Vilanculo, a delegate from Mozambique, told Christianity Today that the Traditional Plan “keeps the church in the way of God … and is what God wants in the church in this world.” His sentiments were shared by a delegate from the Western Pennsylvania Conference, Nancy Denardo, who told USA Today, “The One Church Plan does not agree with the words of our Savior and in so doing deceives young persons into believing that same-gender marriage is OK with God when clearly it is not. There is danger to that not only to those being deceived but the deceivers as well.”

This stance reflects the self-reported 44% of the conservative-traditional Methodists participating in a United Methodist Communications survey published in February. In the U.S., about 20% of the UMC congregants identified themselves as liberal.

What’s the importance of this survey data regarding ideology within the UMC? In the same survey, when asked if the church’s priority should be saving souls for Jesus Christ or advocating for social justice to transform the world, 88% of the conservative-traditionalists said the former while 68% of the liberals declared the latter.

To reflect this chasm, a Virginia delegate spoke to USA Today at the UMC General Conference and heralded, “What’s being said in private conversations is that if the Traditional Plan, the majority plan, is voted in today, you will be putting a virus into the American church and it will make it very sick and it will be sick quickly.” Reverend Tom Berlin not only supported the One Church Plan but, obviously, believes the sickness of the church is not the sin, but, teaching about the sin.

The General Conference was tasked with addressing a 2018 report from a UMC commission on revising the Book of Discipline, which is published every four years and has been since 1784. The most recent edition was released in 2016, meaning that the vote to adopt a church plan was to serve as the governing stance for at least the next four years, as noted in the upcoming 2020 publication.

A warning was issued by a former bishop whose assessment seems to predict a split that may not be ruinous. Professor Will Willimon, at Duke’s Divinity School and former Dean of the Chapel at Duke, offered to Religion News Service, “The hope is that Jesus Christ is Lord. There is a God, and our God is a redemptive God. I can’t decide if the Lord is saying now, ‘You created the structure and polity of the United Methodist Church. I didn’t. You wrote the Book of Discipline. I didn’t. If that’s being dismantled, that’s OK.’”

As has been stated and discussed by many, religion is man’s attempt to get to God, while Jesus Christ is God’s way to get to man. The various denominational doctrines and practices of the various branches of the Christian church were created by God’s creation in some attempt to organize in shared belief. Yet the taxonomy of the various branches of Christianity reflect the differences, not the unity of beliefs. These separations permit interpretations and even deceptions related to Biblical teachings and practices — in this case, sexual sin.

As has been written about very plainly here at The Patriot Post for years, Mark Alexander’s column from 2006 stated: “Homosexuality is unanimously condemned by the foundational teachings of all world religions, and those teachings are the basis for societal norms worldwide. … In every authentic translation of the Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek Old and New Testament Scriptures, homosexual acts are, indeed, explicitly condemned.”

For folks like the Queer Clergy Caucus, however, the normalization of homosexuality is the goal, just as is the normalization of murdering an innocent child in the womb and calling it a matter of “choice” and “reproductive health” in these efforts to prioritize culture over Christ in the church. This is no surprise at all.

In the first century, a very learned Jew who was forever changed by Jesus Christ, Paul of Tarsus, wrote in his farewell to his trusted colleague, Timothy, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”

Missouri Gas Pipeline Bursts Into Flames

{dailycaller.com} ~ A central Missouri gas pipeline exploded into a burst of flames Sunday morning, and the cause is being investigated by officials... Occurring along a Missouri highway, the pipeline owned by the Dallas-based Panhandle Eastern Pipeline ruptured and took 40 minutes to be extinguished, according to the Audrain County’s Sheriff Office in a post. You can watch the video, taken by a member of the Sheriff’s department. Happening near Mexico, Missouri, which is 120 miles away from St. Louis, the rupture did not cause any injuries but resulted in the loss of power for some nearby homes. The explosion reportedly blew debris into the air resulting in the Missouri highway to be closed until the road is evaluated and repair workers to replace several utilities. Polling Populist Socialist Support

by Nate Jackson: The entire Democrat Party, from leadership to the grassroots, is moving far and fast to the left. Poll after poll shows that many of the rank and file now prefer socialism to capitalism. An avowed socialist named Bernie Sanders will be a formidable threat for the Democrat presidential nomination in 2020. And much of the field is running on Medicare for All and some version of the Green New Deal. No wonder President Donald Trump threw down the gauntlet on socialism in his State of the Union Address.

Thus, it’s no surprise to see more polling bearing this out. First up, Harvard University asked registered voters whether the U.S. economy should be “mostly capitalist” or “mostly socialist.” Some 65% chose capitalism, but a very troubling 35% favored socialism, including a majority of voters between the ages of 18 and 24. A similar percentage — 64% — identified the Democrat Party as promoting socialism. Among Democrats? The split was just 51% to 49% in favor of capitalism.

Second, a Public Opinion Strategies survey found that 77% of Democrats think the country would be “better off” by going socialist. Likewise alarming: 45% of surveyed registered voters agree, while just 51% disagree. Again, younger voters are the driving force here — those under age 45 favor socialism by a 53% to 40% margin.

Then again, an NBC News poll found that of a list of qualities or characteristics for a president — black, white, woman, homosexual, Christian, Muslim, someone under 40, someone over 75, etc. — voters are least enthusiastic about a socialist, followed closely by someone over 75. Bernie Sanders, call your office.

As for the first two polls and the overall trend, we’d argue that socialism’s favorability is a case of the average voter — especially young ones who don’t remember the Soviet Union — having no idea that socialism actually means government control of the means of production. Instead, they’re enticed by all the “free” stuff being dangled by Demo politicians to buy votes. ~The Patriot Post

Don’t look now, but China just blinked

on technology theft

by americantruthtoday.com: There’s been no end to the complaints on the left and portions of the right as well about President Trump’s use of tariffs to attempt to craft better trade deals for the United States... The results have been a mixed bag thus far, with some efforts delivering results (see: Mexico and Canada) and others seeming to fall short (the auto industry is a good example there). But some of the greatest consternation on display around punditry panels has been caused by the President’s aggressive stance toward China, arguably our largest trading partner. Trump’s complaints about their habitual theft of technology from the west seem to have sunk in over in Beijing because they are currently working on a law to supposedly curtail this type of abuse and end the tariff battle. On the surface, at least, this looks like good news for Donald Trump. He hit China with a quarter of a trillion dollars in tariffs last July and our two nations have been wrangling over it ever since. This new law is being pushed by none other than President Xi Jinping himself, so it looks as if it should pass with ease, giving Trump another victory he can tout during his speeches. But before we get too carried away with popping champagne corks, we need to keep in mind China’s history when it comes to “importing” western technology. Based on the description provided by the Associated Press, this new law isn’t exactly worded in a way that would be locking up any private or government entities found to be reverse engineering or simply stealing western technology and producing it themselves in defiance of patent rights. The Chinese are still denying that they steal technology or pressure companies to hand it over. And yet this law is designed to “discourage officials from pressuring foreign companies to hand over technology.” “Discourage?” Does that mean they’ll be getting a strongly worded letter the next time they do it? The American Chamber of Commerce in China is quoted as describing the law as a positive “step forward” but they’re worried about how it would be enforced. “GOP Tax Scam” Narrative is Already

Falling Apart for the Left

According to the story, Americans are irate because after filing their taxes and expecting their usual big-money refunds, they are discovering that they’re getting nothing back. And this, after the damn dirty Republicans promised they were handing middle-class America a fat tax break? How dare they? There are no outright lies embedded in this story, but the tone of it does little to convey the reality of the situation. The second paragraph comes the closest, but even in explaining why refunds were down, the Times did not bother to point out that we were still a long way from April 15, and things could easily change. Well, that time has already come. According to the latest figures from the IRS, the average refund this year is actually up slightly from last year – and that’s ON TOP of the fact that most people are taking more of their money in their paychecks every week. According to the latest numbers, the average refund through Feb. 22 was $3,143, which is about forty dollars ahead of where Americans were this time last year. The media tried to make the intellectual density of the average American taxpayer, who didn’t bother to notice that the IRS was not withholding as much from their paychecks, into a political crisis for the Republican Party. Welcome to New York, Amazon—Now Go Home

{peggynoonan.com} ~ A last word on Amazon and New York City. The story’s over but it doesn’t stop hurting. Twenty-five thousand jobs lost, maybe 40,000 when all is said and done, and of all kinds—high-tech, management, white-collar, blue. All the construction, and the signs and symbols of a coming affluence: the streets lit bright, the sidewalks busy, shops and restaurants humming, hiring. The feeling of safety you have when you pass doorways on the street at night and can hear laughter and conversation on the other side.

This is not just “a loss,” it is a whole lost world. And it is a watershed event for my town. After Amazon’s withdrawal no major American company will open a new headquarters here for at least a generation. No CEO is going to do what Jeff Bezos did, invest all that time and money, do all the planning, negotiating and deciding, only to see it collapse in bitter headlines because the politicians you’re making the deal with can’t control their own troops, and because in the end it is summoning a humiliation to do big business in a town whose political life is dominated by a wild and rising progressive left.

Their issues were tax breaks and unionization.

Should corporations, especially big, megarich ones, be given tax benefits for locating in a city or state? No, actually. They should come in simply as grateful and eager new citizens, especially in a place like New York, since there’s nothing like us. But that is not the world in which we live. In this world politicians are desperate to expand the tax base and brag about creating jobs. Companies can and do press every advantage. New York City and state offered Amazon almost $3 billion in future tax breaks. Newark and New Jersey offered $7 billion; everyone’s desperate. New York state said that over the next 25 years Amazon’s presence would yield $186 billion in positive economic impact, including $14 billion in additional tax payments. The progressives who dominate New York’s City Council charged those numbers came from consultants hired to support the deal. Fine, assume they doubled the actual benefits: That would mean $93 billion in positive economic impact, $7 billion in tax payments. Still a huge benefit to the people of New York, and a lifeline for a state experiencing, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, more than $2 billion in tax shortfalls because the rich keep moving out.

Jeff Bezos was the rich guy who wanted to move in.

Amazon was knocked because it wouldn’t promise to unionize. I favor private unions: A certain claimed equality, a certain balance between a huge company’s management and the working man or woman, is not the worst thing in the world. And people more than ever need to belong to something. If Amazon were unionized it would cost them, and, warm little humanitarians that they are, they would immediately pass the cost on to consumers. That cost increase might function as a little boost to neighborhood retailers. And we all want neighborhood stores to get a boost because they’re our neighbors. They talk to us; they are part of the community; they make life more human. But you can’t expect Amazon, which is a business, to walk in declaring: We’ll not only help you unionize, we’ll organize your first strike!

When Amazon withdrew, Mayor Bill de Blasio, in his embarrassment and fear, decided he’d bluff his way through with tough talk. Amazon ran because they couldn’t take the heat. “You have to be tough to make it in New York City.”

Oh you he-man, you stud. Those bland little Amazon drones are real softies. They work for the richest man in the world and their job is to make him richer and if they don’t, they’re fired. Half Mr. Bezos’ business plan involves selling things for a dime less. They’d strangle you for a nickel.

Here is the truth: New York’s progressives weren’t tough, they were weak. They don’t know how to play this game.

You want to be tough and mean, get what you want, and keep those jobs for your constituents? Here was the play:

You don’t unleash the furies and hold hearings where crowds jeer, hiss and chant “GTFO, Amazon has got to go.” You don’t put stickers on every lamp pole saying “Amazon crime.” You don’t insult and belittle their representatives. You don’t become Tweeting Trotsky.

You quietly vote yes, go to the groundbreaking, and welcome our new partner in prosperity. Then you wait. And as soon as the new headquarters is fully built and staffed, you shake them down like a boss.

You move on local issues—high rents, crowded subways. To help on unionization you get the next Democrat in the White House to sic the National Labor Relations Board. You go to your friends in the big New York papers and say, “Amazon’s cruel, the shifts are so long the elevator operators are peeing in bottles, Bezos dropped his wallet and when the receptionist picked it up it broke her back.”

And Mr. Bezos, whose life is changing, who by now is a prince of the city with the fanciest friends—he can’t stand being killed every day! Also it’s 2021 and he’s worth $250 billion, and he says, “What the hell, give them half of what they want.”

What’s he going to do, leave? The place has been built, billions have been spent.

That’s real left-wing hardball: You catch it, then you skin it.

They let their prey go. What second-rate slobs run this town.

Opponents came out early, hard and full of rage. Jimmy Van Bramer, the preening councilman whose district included Amazon’s site: “The mayor and the governor caved to the richest man on Earth and then handed the bill to each and every New Yorker.” Rep. commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez didn’t wait a week after her election. Politico, Nov. 13: “She ripped the reported tax breaks the company will receive and described the local community’s reaction to the news as ‘outrage.’” Actually the community was for it; ideologues were against it. Amazon is rich, she said in a tweet: “The idea that it will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks at a time when our subway is crumbling and our communities need MORE investment, not less, is extremely concerning for residents here.” Sometimes she seemed to think New York was literally handing Mr. Bezos a $3 billion check. Sometimes she seemed to know that wasn’t true but found it helpful to mislead. Like Mr. de Blasio she scrambled in apparent shock when Amazon backed out, and chose a triumphalist dodge. “Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed.” No, everyday New Yorkers did not do it. They wanted the jobs. It was you, Fredo.

It would all be funny if it weren’t for that lost world. The 25,000 families getting a new paycheck, the mothers and fathers suddenly able to send their kids to the local Catholic school, the busy sidewalks, the lights. Instead, the books unbought in the store that didn’t open. The talent unhired and unmet.

Think of it that way and it breaks your heart. Really: breaks it.

“Russian president Vladimir Putin on Monday officially suspended his country’s obligations under the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in response to the Trump administration’s withdrawal from the pact last month. Facebook Hypocrisy on Islamist Terror Videos

Clarion called out a film about a young Palestinian terrorist who murdered three people and wounded seven on an Israeli bus. The 25-minute film depicted the events leading up to the terror perpetrated by Baha Alyan, 22, and Bilal Ranem, 23, in 2015. They attacked passengers on the #78 bus in Jerusalem with a knife and gun, respectively. Alyan whom the film is about was killed in the attack and Ranem was injured. The film also includes a fabricated scene where actors, dressed up as Jewish settlers, kidnap and graphically murder a Palestinian boy a scout like Alyan was. A week ago, Clarion asked our readers to write to Facebook to get this film banned. The most recent campaign is titled: "Normalization is a Crime." Palestinian Authority officials who are not known as particularly religious have been warning Arab states that normalization with Israel is tantamount to treachery. Mahmoud al-Aloul, Deputy Chairman of the Palestinian Authority's ruling Fatah faction headed by Mahmoud Abbas, went as far as describing Arab normalization with Israel as a "stab in the back of the Palestinians." Aloul and other Palestinian officials say they are opposed to Arab normalization with Israel because the Palestinians are afraid of being abandoned by their Arab bothers. In the Venezuelan crisis, said President Donald Trump in Florida, "All options are on the table." And if Venezuela's generals persist in their refusal to break with Nicolas Maduro, they could "lose everything."

Another example of Yankee bluster and bluff?

Or is Trump prepared to use military force to bring down Maduro and install Juan Guaido, the president of the national assembly who has declared himself president of Venezuela?

We will get an indication this weekend, as a convoy of food and humanitarian aid tries to force its way into Venezuela from Colombia.

Yet, even given the brutality of the regime and the suffering of the people -- 1 in 10 have fled -- it is hard to see Trump sending the Marines to fight the Venezuelan army in Venezuela.

Where would Trump get the authority for such a war?

Still, the lead role that Trump has assumed in the crisis raises a question. Does the reflexive interventionism -- America is "the indispensable nation!" -- that propelled us into the forever war of the Middle East, retain its hold on the American mind?

Next week, Trump meets in Hanoi with North Korea's Kim Jong Un.

While Kim has not tested his missiles or nuclear warheads in a year, few believe he will ever surrender the weapons that secure his survival and brought the U.S. superpower to the negotiating table.

Is Trump prepared to accept a deal that leaves a nuclear North but brings about a peace treaty, diplomatic relations and a withdrawal of U.S. troops from the Korean Peninsula? Or are American forces to be in Korea indefinitely?

Nancy Pelosi's House just voted to cut off U.S. support for the Saudi war against the Houthi rebels in Yemen. The Senate may follow.

Yet Trump is prepared to use his first veto to kill that War Powers Resolution and retain the right to help the Saudi war effort.

What is our vital interest in Yemen's civil war? Why would Trump not wish to extricate us from that moral and humanitarian disaster?

At the Munich Security Conference, however, NATO allies Britain, France and Germany recommitted to the Iran nuclear treaty from which Trump withdrew, and to improve economic relations with Tehran.

Trump pledged months ago to bring home the 2,000 U.S. troops in Syria and half of the 14,000 in Afghanistan. But he is meeting resistance in his own party in Congress and even in his own administration.

Reasons: A U.S. pullout from Syria would abandon our Kurdish allies to the Turks, who see them as terrorists, and would force the Kurds to cut a deal with Syria's Bashar Assad and Russia for their security and survival.

This week, Britain and France informed us that if we leave Syria, then they leave, too.

As for pulling out of Afghanistan, the probable result would be the fall of the Kabul government and return of the Taliban, who hold more territory now than they have since being overthrown 18 years ago. For Afghans who cast their lot with the Americans, it would not go well.

U.S. relations with Russia, which Trump promised to improve, have chilled to Cold War status. The U.S. is pulling out of Ronald Reagan's INF treaty, which bans land-based nuclear missiles of 300 to 3,000-mile range.

Putin has said that any reintroduction of land-based U.S. missiles to Europe would mean a new class of Russian missiles targeted on Europe -- and on the United States.

Today, the U.S. maintains a policy of containment of Russia and China, which are more united than they have been since the first days of the Cold War. We are responsible for defending 28 NATO nations in Europe, twice as many as during the Cold War, plus Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand.

We have troops in Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and appear on the cusp of collisions with Venezuela and Iran. Yet we field armed forces a fraction of the size they were in the 1950s and 1960s and the Reagan era.

And the U.S. national debt is now larger than the U.S. economy.

This is imperial overstretch. It is unsustainable.

Senate will vote to block Trump's

by Thomas Gallatin: The Left’s obsession with environmentalism and more specifically climate change has little to do with protecting the environment. Instead, as we have repeatedly noted, the real motive behind the Left’s “green” agenda is red socialism — increasing government control over the economy.

This reality was made patently clear with Rep. commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal (GND). Using apocalyptic warnings of the world ending in 12 years should the country not embrace her radical and absurd agenda — which would effectively destroy America’s entire economic system as we know it — AOC and her fellow travelers claim their cause to be a just one because they are simply trying to save the planet. But, as National Review’s David French astutely points out, “When you read the [GND] you quickly realize that progressivism is the priority, not the environment. In other words, environmentalism and progressivism are wrongly treated as fundamentally inseparable.”

As for supposedly working to “save” the environment, the GND offers no practical real-world solutions. Where this may be most glaringly evident is in the GND’s rejection of nuclear energy. The resolution proposes that “100 percent of the power demand in the United States” would be met “through clean, renewable, and zero-emission energy sources.” But these energy sources “would not include creating new nuclear plants” and, in fact, “the plan is to transition off of nuclear and all fossil fuels as soon as possible.”

Yet, as Time magazine “Hero of the Environment” Michael Shellenberger argues, the only truly “green energy” is nuclear power. “When it comes to generating power for billions of people, it turns out that producing solar and wind collectors, and spreading them over large areas, has vastly worse impacts on humans and wildlife alike,” he says. “I think it’s natural that those of us who became active on climate change gravitated toward renewables. They seemed like a way to harmonize human society with the natural world. Collectively, we have been suffering from an appeal-to-nature fallacy no different from the one that leads us to buy products at the supermarket labeled ‘all natural.’ But it’s high time that those of us who appointed ourselves Earth’s guardians should take a second look at the science, and start questioning the impacts of our actions.”

So why the Left’s aversion to nuclear energy? Maybe because it’s a proven, reliable, and cost-effective source of green energy that doesn’t necessitate a socialist takeover of the American economy. The fact is, nuclear power offers a more realistic means of meeting the Left’s loudly proclaimed environmental goals, but it does so via capitalism — and there’s the rub. ~The Patriot Post

If you write something that offends the delicate sensibilities of liberals on social media…which is controlled by liberals…you are summarily banned for a period of time, or you are ushered off the platform altogether.

Your hate speech has bruised someone’s little feelings. Maybe it hasn’t bruised anyone’s feelings, really, but even if someone pretends to be offended, either personally or on some else’s behalf…you are in trouble.

Hate speech can also trigger liberals to demand you be removed from your ability to earn a living. Don’t think so…ask Rosanne Barr…who tweeted something that supposedly hurt the feelings of Valerie Jarrett…and Rosanne was immediately fired by the liberals who ran her show, and her industry.

Hate speech doesn’t just pertain to the spoken or written word either…

A spokesman for Germany’s interior ministry (BMI) wrote The Jerusalem Post: “The BMI does not comment on concrete prohibition considerations in general; this applies regardless of whether there is reason to do so in individual cases.” The BMI has provided the same answer to Post queries since 2008 about whether German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s administration plans to outlaw all of Hezbollah, while the EU has banned its military arm since 2013. Michael Cohen Was Supposed to Provide 'Bombshell' Testimony. It Didn't Explode

Michael Cohen was supposed to provide “bombshell” testimony against President Trump. Well, the bombshell didn’t explode.

Not long ago, many were speculating that Cohen might have recorded conversations with Trump admitting that he had made payments to Stormy Daniels for political purposes, instructed Cohen to lie to Congress, colluded with Russia or knew in advance about the infamous Trump Tower meeting. It turns out Cohen didn’t have anything like that. His testimony was certainly embarrassing for the president, but Cohen offered no evidence to advance the cause of impeachment.

To the contrary, some of his testimony was exculpatory. While Cohen testified that Trump ordered him to pay off Stormy Daniels “as part of a criminal scheme to violate campaign finance laws,” elsewhere in his testimony he declared that Trump did not care about winning the election. He said Trump saw the campaign as an “infomercial” for the Trump brand, adding that “He never expected to win the primary. He never expected to win the general election. The campaign — for him — was always a marketing opportunity.”

Well, if Trump didn’t care about winning, that undermines the case that the payments were a campaign finance violation. Indeed, Cohen offered evidence that Trump’s motivation was in fact keeping his affair from his wife. “He asked me to pay off an adult film star with whom he had an affair, and to lie to his wife about it,” Cohen said. “Lying to the first lady is one of my biggest regrets. … She did not deserve that.” Paying hush money because he did not want his wife to find out he was having an affair with a porn star is sleazy, but it is not a crime.

Cohen also cleared Trump of the charge that he had directed Cohen to lie to Congress about the Moscow Trump Tower project. Cohen declared that “I lied to Congress” and Trump “did not directly tell me to lie.” Cohen said he assumed Trump wanted him to lie, so he did what he thought Trump wanted. Sorry, that’s not evidence of a crime.

Nor did Cohen provide proof of collusion with Russia. Indeed, he told the committee “I wouldn’t use the word ‘colluding’” though he thought there was “something odd about the back-and-forth praise with President [Vladimir] Putin.” So did many of us. But while saying nice things about the Russian dictator may be evidence of bad judgment, it is not evidence of a criminal conspiracy to collude with Putin to steal the election.

Cohen provided no evidence that Trump knew about the infamous Trump Tower meeting. Last July, CNN breathlessly reported that Cohen had told dirty cop-Mueller that “Trump knew in advance about the June 2016 meeting in Trump Tower in which Russians were expected to offer his campaign dirt on scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton” and that “he was present, along with several others, when Trump was informed of the Russians’ offer by [Donald] Trump Jr.” That’s not what Cohen told Congress on Wednesday. He testified he didn’t know about the Trump Tower meeting in advance — he “read all over the media” about it — but that in retrospect he thought that Trump Jr. might have been telling Trump about the Russia meeting when he walked into Trump’s office and whispered into Trump’s ear in front of Cohen “the meeting is all set.” Big difference.

Cohen testified he was in the room when Roger Stone called Trump and told him that WikiLeaks was going to release emails damaging to scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton, and that Trump “responded by stating to the effect of ‘wouldn’t that be great.’” Trump knowing in advance that WikiLeaks, acting on its own, was going to put out dirt on scumbag/liar-Clinton is not illegal.

In other words, Cohen’s testimony was a dud. That does not exonerate Trump, not by a long shot. The dirty cop-Mueller report is still yet to come, and Cohen testified there were elements of his cooperation with federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York that he could not discuss.

But we did learn something disturbing at Wednesday’s hearing — how shameless the new Democratic House majority will be in their efforts to undermine the Trump presidency. Democrats scheduled the Cohen hearing on the very same day the president was in Vietnam trying to broker a deal on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. We all had a stake in the president’s success. They could have waited one day to avoid creating a distraction during a critical diplomatic moment. But they didn’t, because for Democrats it seems that embarrassing Trump is more important than disarming a tyrant.

Palestinians in the Hamas-run coastal enclave have been launching explosive balloons and other explosive aerial devices as part of The Great Return March protests which began on March 30th, leading to 2,000 separate fires resulting in over 35,000 dunams approximately 8,500 acres being burnt. After all, if you read the writings of the followers of Saint-Simon, Marx, Lenin, Stalin or Mao, none of them mention sharing. So where did so many US citizens get the idea that socialism is just about sharing? I think the answer lies with “milk cow economics.” Starting in middle school, most social studies classes eventually get around to it. Clearly, milk cow economics is humorous and based on stereotypes. But why are the definitions of capitalism and socialism always the least funny? That’s because the authors intend to make socialism look much better than it would if people knew the histories of Nazi Germany, the USSR, China under Mao, North Korea, Cuba, etc. The creators of socialism, beginning with Plato, intended to perfect human nature through the elimination of private property, equalization of wealth and state regulation of daily life. In trying to accomplish their goal, they murdered about 100 million people in the 20th century. That makes the socialist joke about sharing even less funny. Not only is socialism not about sharing, but sharing is a capitalist gesture because in order to share something you have to own it. If my friend on the playground has no candy bar and I steal one from a guy who has two to give it to my friend, that’s not sharing. That’s just theft. It’s no different if the state does the stealing...

"11 Christians Killed Every Day for Their Faith"

"4,136 Christians were killed for faith-related reasons," according to Open Doors USA in its recently published World Watch List 2019 (WWL) of the top 50 nations where Christians are persecuted. "On average, that's 11 Christians killed every day for their faith." Additionally, "2,625 Christians were detained without trial, arrested, sentenced and imprisoned" in 2018, and "1,266 churches or Christian buildings were attacked." Whereas 215 million Christians faced persecution in 2018, 245 million will suffer in 2019, according to Open Doors — a 14% increase, that represents 30 million more people abused for their faith. This means that "1 in 9 Christians experience high levels of persecution worldwide" note: all quotations in this article are from the WWL 2019. One of the most noteworthy trends concerns the "shocking reality of persecution against women." "In many places, they experience a 'double persecution' — one for being a Christian and one for being a woman. Baltimore Reverses Course on Arming

Cops in Schools

by Michael Swartz: The city of Baltimore is dubbed “Bodymore, Murderland” for good reason: While its homicide rate dropped in 2018, it was still the bloodiest among major American cities. But we shouldn’t be surprised, given the hotbed of gang recruitment that exists within the city’s schools.

Despite that danger, Baltimore’s in-school police officers are prohibited from carrying weapons on campus during school hours. This situation is unique among Maryland school districts and stems from a 2015 determination that city police aren’t legally authorized to do so and must instead store their weapons in a school safe or lockbox.

At a recent school forum on arming officers, State Delegate Cheryl Glenn noted, “I don’t want us to be in a situation where we ‘would have, should have, could have’” had an armed officer. In January, she introduced a bill in the Maryland General Assembly to grant authorization, but later that month the Baltimore City school board voted unanimously to oppose it during a “chaotic” meeting. Without the board’s support, Glenn withdrew her bill.

Days after Glenn’s bill was shelved, a shooting at the city’s Frederick Douglass High School left assistant basketball coach Michael Marks seriously wounded. The 25-year-old suspect, a brother of a female student who Marks had recently disciplined, had already been evicted from campus once. On his return, the suspect entered the school without an ID check or going through a metal detector, alleged Marks’s attorney, and when the shooting began the unarmed school resource officers ran away.

Chastened by the Marks incident, both Delegate Glenn and the board reversed course this week on arming officers. With an eight-to-two vote, the board gave its blessing to Glenn’s reintroduced proposal. “It would be nice if we lived in a world where we didn’t need guns at all,” said Glenn after the vote, “but that’s not the reality for us in Baltimore City. This decision will give the bill a lot of the support the [Baltimore City] delegation needs to see.”

Naturally, not everyone was pleased. “We feel like we have a culture of students with negative relationships with police in their communities,” complained one student organizer who attends the quasi-public alternative Bard High School Early College in Baltimore. He added that the board “went and changed their vote after Douglass,” insisting that “we keep making decisions out of fear.”

Well, yes, that’s certainly one of the problems with the gun-control crowd.

It’s worth noting again that the board only decided to support a bill with an uncertain future in the uber-leftist Maryland General Assembly — a proposal simply allowing their police to “catch up” with other Maryland jurisdictions already having armed school officers. That’s a far cry from the Florida school safety commission created after the Parkland shooting, which voted to allow arming specially trained teachers — and this despite the obvious security need in Baltimore City schools, where guns are regularly found and physical abuse of teachers runs rampant.

As for the shooter of Michael Marks, he was quickly apprehended by a police supervisor who happened to be at the school on another matter and was therefore carrying his service weapon — so the arrest occurred without further incident. Reaching for the Moon and the

Coddiwomple Conundrum

It’s hard to casually drop the verb “coddiwomple” into conversation... believe me, I have been trying for a couple of months – on the other hand, it’s a pity to let it go to waste. According to the definition submitted anonymously to Merriam-Webster online, “Coddiwomple” means “to travel in a purposeful manner toward an uncertain destination.” Some definitions use “vague destination” instead. The word seems to have started broadly circulating in 2017. I only discovered it by chance at the end of last year when I was googling something. Is a Google search the equivalent of coddiwompling in cyberspace? It’s been hard to get it out of my mind, so I thought I’d pass it on. Ruminating on coddiwompling, I came to the conclusion that it can be both a positive and a negative trait. Travelers with time on their hands can gain from coddiwompling – taking the scenic route and seeing where it and life takes you. Israel’s spacecraft, Beresheet, has a definite aim – a moon landing, scheduled for April 11. It was launched with much fanfare last Thursday, but while the destination is not vague, its voyage is full of uncertainties. I’m looking forward to seeing Beresheet’s first “selfies” from the moon’s surface, but like most people tracking the small module, I realize that it might not all go smoothly and it mightn’t even reach its destination. The Real Problem with the Blue-State Model

{city-journal.org} ~ Last April, shortly after New Jersey governor Phil Murphy proposed a budget with hundreds of millions of dollars in new taxes, his Texas counterpart, Greg Abbott, published an op-ed in the Garden State’s largest newspaper... inviting businesses and residents to consider moving south. “I’d like to throw a lifeline to businesses and families throughout New Jersey who are looking for greater economic opportunity and relief from high taxes. Come to Texas and be a part of our economic success story,” wrote Abbott. “Combine our low taxes and reasonable regulatory environment with our access to global markets and our robust infrastructure, and it’s easy to see why the Texas economy continues to flourish.” Shortly afterward, Murphy responded in the Dallas Morning News, explaining that his budget sought to move Jersey in a “stronger and fairer” direction, after years of putting “the wealthy and big corporations ahead of ordinary people.” He didn’t explain how his state—with the nation’s third-highest corporate income tax and its worst business climate—had put “corporations ahead” of ordinary people. Nor did Murphy clarify how Jersey, where the top 1 percent of households pays 38 percent of the income taxes, favored “the wealthy.” Instead, the governor touted what he considered Jersey’s strengths—among them, lots of “investment” in things like education—as a reason for firms and residents to stay put. Murphy’s stance was typical of officials in high-tax states, who’ve long argued that businesses and families care about more than just taxes. They also want quality government service, on this view—and are willing to pay extra for it. In late 2017, when the Trump administration proposed nixing the federal exemption for state and local taxes, defenders of the policy, mostly from high-tax Democratic states, said that ending it would hurt them by making local taxes more expensive to residents. But this decades-old argument about the payoff from high taxes is increasingly at odds with reality. In polls asking whether residents and businesses want to leave a state, the most discontented respondents come from heavily Democratic and high-tax states. Many who say that they plan to leave say that taxes are indeed a factor. But lurking in the data are other reasons, including mounting discontent with what residents actually get for their tax dollars. Independent studies show that on the core tasks that people think government should do—building roads and bridges, running airports and transit systems, or otherwise spending tax dollars well—high-tax states rank low, despite enormous financial resources. States that tax a lot also tend to regulate heavily, and that has emerged as another underlying cost that this high-tax, high-spending model imposes on citizens and businesses. Learning the Lessons of Protectionism

{spectator.org} ~ Protectionism begets protectionism. The latest example of this sad state of affairs comes to us via the U.S. International Trade Commission... It ruled in January that American producers of line pipe are being hurt by imports of large-diameter line pipe from China and India, among other places. The remedy will likely be higher duties. Some background: Back in March 2018, President Donald Trump cited national security concerns to impose steel tariffs on our trading partners. At the time, trade experts warned that these duties imposed under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 would inevitably make the lives of American manufacturers more difficult. Trump’s 25 percent tariffs would significantly raise the price of imported steel used by American firms. Experts also predicted that manufacturers using domestic steel would pay a higher price. These predictions have proved correct. Unfortunately for U.S. producers, the higher costs are difficult to avoid. For starters, the type of steel that they want to import may not be produced in the United States, meaning that those producers must continue importing metal at the higher, tariffed prices. Yet even if substitutes for imported steel are produced in the United States, the quality might be inadequate, or the prices may already be higher. Moreover, although the Department of Commerce has put in place a process for requesting exemptions from the tariffs, this process has proved to be a nightmare. As my colleagues Christine McDaniel and Danielle Parks have documented, the steel industry — which stands to benefit massively from the tariffs — has objected to the exemptions. More often than not, the steel lobby has asserted that the exemptions sought by steel-using American firms aren’t necessary because U.S. steel producers could start producing more such steel domestically. That claim is highly dubious. The burdensome nature of the exemption request process itself combined with the lack of recourse for firms that are denied exemptions rarely yields positive results for steel-using American producers. Medicare for All Would Actually Be

a Government Takeover of Health Care

Republicans frequently blasted the Democrats' health plan as a "government takeover of health care." That phrase, introduced into circulation by GOP messaging guru Frank Luntz, was eventually awarded Politifact's Lie of the Year. One could argue about whether the GOP's attack was the most significant lie of 2010, but it was, at minimum, an exaggeration. Although the Affordable Care Act increased regulation on individual health insurance to the point where it became something resembling a public utility, it left the bulk of the market for private health coverage intact, and even provided subsidies so that people could obtain heavily regulated private coverage. Today, an estimated 177 million Americans have private coverage. The single-payer health care plans now being put forth by Democrats under the label "Medicare for All," however, would eliminate that coverage. As Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D–Wash.) said this week when announcing House Democrats' new Medicare for All bill, the plan would "mean a system where there are no private insurance companies that provide these core comprehensive benefits that will be covered through the government." Unlike scumbag/liar-nObamacare, then, Medicare for All can legitimately be described as a government takeover of health care. Although Jayapal's plan would allow for the creation of a secondary market for supplementary coverage in addition to the government-run plan and direct cash payments to doctors, the market for the private health coverage that tens of millions of Americans currently have would be eliminated. Employers and insurers would be prohibited by law from providing the same benefits as the the government plan, a prohibition that goes further than some other countries with national health care systems. The Left's Latest Socialist Health Care Plan

by Thomas Gallatin: As part of their ever-expanding effort to buy votes with “free” stuff, House Democrats this week introduced their latest attempted government takeover of health care under the now-infamous label “Medicare for All.” The sweeping legislation, introduced by Reps. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) and Debbie Dingell (D-MI), would essentially outlaw private health insurance, replacing it with an entirely federal-run single-payer system similar to those found in Canada and the UK. Obviously, this stands no chance of becoming law … yet. But let’s look at what Democrats want.

Evoking classic socialist, anti-capitalist rhetoric, Jayapal asserted, “It’s time to put people’s health over profit. Our bill will cover everyone. Not just those who are fortunate enough to have employer-sponsored insurance.” She further asserted, “Not just children. Not just seniors. Not just those who are healthy. Everyone. Because healthcare is a human right.”

How do Democrats treat such “rights”?

Make no mistake: This legislation is, as The Heritage Foundation’s health-care expert Robert Moffit writes, “profoundly authoritarian.” Individual freedom regarding health care would be a thing of the past. No more keeping your doctor or your health insurance. Those would all be eliminated in favor of a system based on centralized government control. While hospitals would not be owned by the government, they would essentially be controlled — along with many treatment choices — by bureaucrats in Washington. Hello, fascism?

Taxes would necessarily increase significantly, as the estimated cost for Sen. commie-Bernie Sanders’s similar Medicare for All plan comes in at a whopping $32.6 trillion over 10 years. Moffit further notes, “Ken Thorpe of Emory University, formerly an adviser to President scumbag/liar-Bill Clinton, estimates that the federal taxation needed to finance the commie-Sanders plan would amount to an additional 20 percent tax on workers’ income, and more than 7 out of 10 working families would end up paying more for health care than they do today.”

So, not only would Americans lose their freedom to choose their own insurance plans and doctors, they’d be paying more than ever for health care via taxes while receiving poorer service. Citing the Journal of the American Medical Association’s comparison of the current U.S. system to that of both Canada and the UK, Moffit explains, “Concerning access to specialized care, for example, they found that only 6 percent of American patients reported waiting more than two months to see a medical specialist, compared to 39 percent of Canadian patients and 19 percent of British patients. The Fraser Institute, a prominent Canadian think tank, estimated that in 2018 the median waiting time for a Canadian patient to see a medical specialist on referral from a general practitioner was 19.8 weeks.”

There are no two ways about it. This Democrat legislation is a boondoggle designed to buy votes and then install an authoritarian system to effect greater centralized control over the lives of all Americans, all under the guise of providing “universal” health care. {westernjournal.com} ~ A federal judge in Florida on Thursday ordered the release of depositions given by former British spy Christopher Steele and a longtime associate of rino-John McCain’s in a lawsuit filed against BuzzFeed regarding Steele’s anti-Trump dossier... U.S. District Court Judge Ursula Ungaro overruled requests by Steele and David Kramer, the former rino-McCain associate, to keep depositions that they gave in the BuzzFeed lawsuit under seal. On Dec. 19, Ungaro dismissed a lawsuit filed against BuzzFeed by Aleksej Gubarev, a Russian businessman accused in the dossier of using his companies to hack into DNC computers. The depositions by Steele and Kramer, a former State Department official, are likely to shed light on how the dossier was compiled and disseminated to U.S. government officials and the media. Ungaro ordered the documents’ release on March 14. Kramer, a former State Department official, provided the dossier to a BuzzFeed reporter on Dec. 28, 2016, several weeks after meeting with Steele in London. Steele was hired in June 2016 by opposition research firm Fusion GPS to investigate Donald Trump’s ties to Russia. He produced 17 separate memos dated between June 20, 2016 and Dec. 13, 2016, alleging a vast conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Kremlin to influence the election. Though the document remains unverified, the FBI cited Steele’s report extensively in applications to obtain surveillance warrants against former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.The dossier suffered a heavy blow Wednesday, during the congressional testimony of former Trump attorney Michael Cohen. Cohen denied under oath that he visited Prague during the 2016 campaign, as the dossier alleges...

Even Something as Great as School Choice

Should Not Be Federalized

Bradley Byrne (R-AL), in conjunction with U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, will unveil a bill to create a $5 billion scholarship tax credit... an unprecedented federal school choice effort. An op-ed all three have in USA Today spells out both the good of federal school choice, and inadvertently, the potential bad which makes it too dangerous to justify. First, the good. DeVos, Cruz, and Byrne argue, quite rightly, that “education isn’t about school systems. It is about school children.” If you recognize basic reality, you’ll know that all children and families are different—different talents, values, dreams—hence it makes no sense to say all should get uniform education. But opposing school choice is de facto endorsing the idea that education should be largely uniform. One size must fit all. They also make another crucial point, one that is starting to elicit push-back from public schooling advocates who insist that public schooling and public education are synonymous. DeVos, Cruz, and Byrne write that their proposal is not “an attack on public education.” Of course it isn’t. For one, they say their proposal would allow credit-eligible funds to be used for public school options. More broadly, just as public assistance doesn’t mean every recipient of help must go to a government grocery store, nothing about public education implies government must supply the schools. Indeed, we’ve been moving away from things like government housing projects for decades. Now the bad. School choice is about individualization and freedom, and almost certainly that is what DeVos, Cruz, and Byrne want. But federal initiatives are a terrible way to deliver that. The reality is that what the feds fund, even indirectly, they inevitably want to control. DeVos, Cruz, and Byrne specifically acknowledge that historical reality in federal education policy. They write, “A series of administrations on both sides of the aisle have tried to fill in the blank with more money and more control, each time expecting a different result.” Note that the primary vehicle for that control, the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, started aimed just at funding low-income districts. setting up potential veto showdown

The vote was 245-182, with all Democrats voting yea and 13 Republicans joining them. Tuesday's vote marked the first time the House or Senate has tried to terminate a presidential declaration of a national emergency, using the provisions of the National Emergencies Act of 1976. Former Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., attempted a similar effort regarding a national emergency declared by then-President George W. Bush, but the measure never came to a vote on the House floor. Should enough Republicans in the GOP-controlled Senate defect and support the House bill, a two-thirds supermajority in both the Senate and House would be needed to override Trump's veto. The White House issued a formal veto threat Tuesday ahead of the House vote, ramping up pressure on Republicans to hold the line. With 427 representatives voting, the House needed 285 yeas to have a veto-proof margin on this legislation, and fell far short. It took President George W. With just under a million members and 5,000 churches down from two million members and 7,000 churches in 1957, when it was founded, it still has prominent congregations in the heartland of the American Congregationalist movements, in states such as Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Although the UCC's membership has included many US governors, senators, Supreme Court Justices such as William H. Rehnquist; some outstanding theologians such as H. Richard Niebuhr, his older brother Reinhold, and Paul Tillich; and several writers, and academics, it is, however, best known today as the church that U.S. President Barack scumbag/liar-nObama attended for twenty years between 1988 and 2008. For all that time, it was his spiritual home: "Trinity was where I found Jesus Christ, where we were married, where our children were baptized." He attended Trinity UCC in Chicago, with the largest of the denomination's congregations, some 10,000 members. Trinity UCC is a black or "Afrocentric" church that bases itself on the pursuit of love and justice. Cut Taxes, Grow Economy

by Nate Jackson: It’s not news that the economy has emerged from the doldrums of the previous administration and is growing at a healthy pace. Yesterday’s release of fourth-quarter and full-year GDP numbers was another confirmation.

Fourth-quarter growth was a modest but higher-than-expected 2.6%, slowing from 3.4% in the third quarter and 4.2% in the second, and growth for calendar year 2018 was a healthy 2.9%. Yes, that’s just shy of President Donald Trump’s promise to grow the economy at 3% or more each year. Yes, it marks a record 13th straight yearwithout 3% growth. And yes, the government shutdown may have put just enough drag on the economy that it missed the 3% mark.

But the White House offered a slightly different measurement, backed up by Bloomberg: “GDP grew by 3.1 percent from the fourth quarter of 2017 to the fourth quarter of 2018,” which “represents $280 billion more in American economic output” than if previous trends had continued. In any case, it’s part of a significant upward trend since Trump took office. Remember when Barack scumbag/liar-nObama and his Keynesian stimulus pals informed us that 2% growth may be the “new normal”? Or when former scumbag/liar-nObama adviser Larry Summers dismissed the idea that tax cuts would yield growth unless “you believe in tooth fairies and ludicrous supply-side economics”?

Well, according to Jim Moran, chief investment officer at Plante Moran Financial Advisors, “For all the hand-wringing and angst, you’d have to go back to 2005 to find a year in which the economy grew at a faster pace.” The bottom line: The Trump administration has an exemplary record on tax cuts, deregulation, and economic growth.

However, we’ve said repeatedly over the last two decades that the economy in many ways amounts to a measurement of consumer confidence — a measurement that’s pretty high right now. We’ve also warned that Democrats are so set on their “Hate Trump” campaign, especially leading into 2020, that they actually want a recession. How will they get one? Undermining consumer confidence with incessant Leftmedia doomsaying.

A prime example is the yarn that Republican tax reform is yielding smaller tax refunds— due to limited deductions for some and smaller withholding for others. Well, The Daily Signal reports, “Tax refunds have increased this week, the Treasury Department announced Thursday. … The average refund at this point in the filing season is now up 1.3 percent over last year.”

Either way, Heritage Foundation fiscal policy analyst Adam Michel gets it right: “The important point to remember is that 90 percent of Americans got a tax cut. It is likely that more Americans will also get larger refunds, but the two are not connected.” What is connected is that when the government confiscates and redistributes less of our money, the economy grows more substantially. ~The Patriot Post

Instead of billing for each service they provide, DPC doctors get paid a fixed sum per patient, usually in the form of a monthly membership-like fee from the patient or the patient’s health plan which is often sponsored by an employer. DPC began as a way of providing premium services — “concierge care” — to patients who wanted expedited services and an extra level of attention from physicians. Concierge care is usually an add-on to the fee-for-service system. Concierge physicians bill insurance plans for the services they provide to their patients and also collect from their patients an additional annual or monthly membership fee. The chemical was carried onto the ships by planes that landed there. It drained into the ocean water that they used to make drinking water and to bathe in. Originally, these vets were compensated for their Agent Orange illnesses. But believe it or not, the Veterans Administration halted that compensation for the Blue Water vets in 2002. Ever since, the sailors have been fighting to get it back. We’ll also have findings of a report from the watchdog Project on Government Oversight. It looked into the trend of military officials making decisions that benefit certain defense contractors, then go on to work for those very same companies making lots of money. Critics say it raises questions about whose interests these officials are serving— those of the military and taxpaying Americans? Or their own– so they can get a high-paying job after the military?... U.S. soldiers in Vietnam... Vets are compensated for Agent Orange– but not the sailors who served off the coast.

‘Lena Dunham Fallacy’ Of Blaming

Elites For Working-Class Sins

He talks about the Lena Dunham Fallacy at the 36:00-minute mark. It’s defined in the book as “the tendency to attribute to decadent elites social phenomena really located among the working class” and the inclination to “blame cultural shifts away from traditional norms on highly educated, wealthy, white liberals.” Where people on the right may ascribe, say, declining marriage rates, to the Dunhams and Hannah Horvaths roaming the streets of Manhattan, the marriage problem is not really with elites. “Marriage has dropped across the board, but it has dropped more for the working class. Is Harvard Racist?

by Media Editors: Can you imagine, in this day and age, an educational institution discriminating against a racial minority? Can you imagine what the outcry would be?

“You mean, you’re preventing these qualified students from attending your college because of the color of their skin?!”

Well, you don’t have to imagine it. It’s happening. And at arguably the most prestigious college in America — my alma mater, Harvard.

The ethnic minority isn’t blacks or Jews, as it was in years past. The target this time is Asian Americans.

And it’s just as wrong.

After millions of dollars in legal fees, millions of records examined, and hundreds of hours of depositions and testimony, Harvard’s once purposely opaque admissions policies have been laid bare. It’s not a pretty picture.

Here’s what we now know:

Harvard Admissions rates student applicants in three main ways: 1) Academic performance; 2) Extra-curricular achievements; 3) “Personal qualities.” That’s fine, as far as it goes, if the criteria were applied fairly. But they’re not.

Asian American applicants consistently score higher in the first two criteria–academics and extra-curricular activities, which can be objectively assessed–than white students, Latinos and African Americans.

So how does Harvard justify its Asian American quota? With the help of category three — “personal qualities,” which include vague and largely subjective factors like “likability,” “maturity,” “integrity,” and “effervescence.”

According to Harvard’s own internal reports, Asian American applicants are routinely and systematically marked much lower on this personality scale by Harvard admissions officers who almost never meet or interview applicants. But here’s the kicker: the personality ratings given to Asian students by admissions officers are vastly different than the personality ratings Harvard gets from its own alumni interviewers, who actually meet the applicants in person. Alumni interviewers score Asian applicants as high as whites.

In other words, Harvard artificially and fraudulently downgrades Asians on “personality” to get the results it wants. And what Harvard wants is to suppress the number of Asian Americans admitted.

Based on the data that Harvard was forced to turn over, economist Peter Arcidiacono of Duke University concluded that with the same application profile in terms of test scores, extracurricular activities and personality factors, an Asian American male applicant would only have a 25% chance of admission–versus 32% if white, 77% if Hispanic, and 95% if black.

What’s the real-life result of all this?

In 2013, Asian Americans made up 19% of the incoming freshmen class. According to Harvard’s own Office of Institutional Research, if the personality factors had not been rigged, that percentage would have been 43%.

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 guarantees that “No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color or national origin, be excluded from participation in, or be denied benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.”

Each year, Harvard takes hundreds of millions of dollars from the federal government.

In Grutter v. Bollinger, the Supreme Court upheld the University of Michigan Law School’s affirmative action policies, deciding that race could be used as a “plus factor” to achieve diversity, but never as a quota. Yet, by placing strict limits on the percentage of Asian American applicants it will admit, racial quotas are exactly what Harvard is using.

One strongly suspects this quota system isn’t limited to Harvard. In the last ten years, Asian American students have been limited to an 18-22% presence across the Ivy League. Or maybe that’s just a coincidence.

Writing for the majority in Grutter v. Bollinger in 2003, Justice Sandra Day O'Connor wrote that the Court “expects that 25 years from now, the use of racial preferences will no longer be necessary to further the interest approved today.”

With less than a decade to go, the Ivy League shows no indication that it’s giving up on those racial preferences. Instead, these colleges have doubled down. Objective standards regarding admissions continue to be increasingly disfavored as the illegal goal of racial balancing is advanced. This racial balancing is justified by the left’s desire to achieve “racial diversity” — its insistence on seeing every person only through the prism of race, as if the most important thing any of us has to offer is the color of our skin.

Not long ago, that was called “racism.” It’s still called racism.

It needs to end, once and for all — for the sake of deserving Asian American students, for the sake of Harvard’s own integrity, and for the sake of the American principle that the rules must be the same for everyone.

Chief Justice of the Supreme Court John Roberts said it best: “The way to stop discrimination on the basis of race is to stop discriminating on the basis of race.”

During the previous Presidential Obama administration, it seems many liberal left-wing activists developed aggressive and illegal attack habits on conservatives.

Inasmuch has President Donald Trump won the 2016 Presidential Election, these liberal left-wing activists of aggressive and illegal attack habits on conservatives have grown.

This activity must be stopped.

University of California-Berkeley Police, Zachary Greenberg, was arrested by the University of California Police Department (UCPD) and booked into jail at 1 p.m. for Greenberg’s totally unnecessary attack on Turning Point USA activist, Hayden Williams.

Zachary Greenberg, an out-of-control ‘left-wing’ activist must be firmly sentenced for his assault on Hayden Williams; only because Hayden Williams was a conservative.

Zachary Greenberg should be expelled permanently from being allowed to enter onto any school of higher education properties, sentenced to a long term in prison, and denied any other appearances when Conservative speaker were speaking in any assembly.

Furthermore, He should be forced to pay total payments for medical recovery as long as the victim needs Healthcare as necessary. - Oscar Y. Harward
