{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ This April marks the fourth year of the ongoing war in Ukraine between the Ukrainian military and Russian backed separatists... in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk  People's Republics in eastern Ukraine, also known as the Donbas region. Prior to the beginning of the war in eastern Ukraine in April 2014, Russia annexed Crimea. Russia's aggression into Ukraine came in direct violation of its obligations under the 1994 Budapest Memorandum. Under the memorandum, in exchange for Ukraine giving up its nuclear weapons, Russia reaffirmed its "obligation to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of Ukraine" and promised that none of its weapons would ever be used against Ukraine except in self-defense or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations. Now, the question of further Russian or Russian-backed military operations in Ukraine has surfaced. In March, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko asserted that Russia has been strengthening its military presence on the border of Ukraine. According to Poroshenko...   https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12228/ukraine-russia-invasion

{ cnsnews.com } ~ On his nationally syndicated radio talk show Monday, host Mark Levin called out former President Barack liar-nObama... for his part in the Iran nuclear deal, saying the 44th president “didn’t just appease,” but “affirmatively assisted” Iran’s nuke program. “We have a prior president of the United States liar-nObama who didn’t just appease them, he provided them the money to get the nukes,” stated Mark Levin. “So he affirmatively assisted them.” Mark Levin’s remarks came after “Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday revealed a cache of files he claims were obtained from Iran and prove the country ran a secret program to build nuclear weapons,” reported CNBC...

{ lifezette.com } ~ Former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer said, “the real problem here”... with Saturday night’s controversial White House Correspondents’ Association (WHCA) dinner is that “the press is killing themselves,” and “they just don’t get it.” Fleischer, who served in former President George W. Bush’s administration, rebuked the WHCA for selecting comedian Michelle Wolf to deliver the evening’s roasts during a nearly 20-minute long speech. With White House press secretary Sarah Sanders on the dais only a few feet away from her, and White House counselor Kellyanne Conway in the audience, Wolf proceeded to insult all women of President Donald Trump’s administration, in a profanity-laden spiel that earned her an intense post-dinner backlash from outside as well as inside the media...  https://www.lifezette.com/polizette/the-press-is-killing-themselves-ari-fleischer-says/?utm_medium=email

{ cnsnews.com } ~ Commenting on new emails obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) -- classified communications that liar-Hillary Clinton... tried to delete from her private server but which the FBI eventually recovered -- Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said the records show liar- Clinton's "utter contempt for the rule of law," and reveal the overlapping conflicts among the " liar-Clinton Foundation, the liar-Clinton State Department, and the liar-Clinton family business." Fitton also stressed there is "in your face evidence" of liar-Clinton's "criminality" but it looks like the Justice Department headed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions is looking the other way. Fitton said, "Well, the theme is liar-Hillary Clinton's utter contempt for the rule of law and then handling of classified information. She's communicating with the former prime minister Great Britain Tony Blair about sensitive issues in the Middle East related to Israeli peace and things like that. Bush administration... is expected to announce on Monday he will run as a Democrat for the U.S. Senate seat previously held by Al Franken (D-Minn.). The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported Sunday that Painter, who has been a frequent critic of President Trump, recently filed paperwork with federal elections officials to run against Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.), who replaced Franken in January. Painter launched a campaign website in recent days, and his campaign’s Twitter page identifies him as “running for U.S. Senate in Minnesota.”...  http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/385430-ex-bush-ethics-official-to-run-for-frankens-former-senate-seat-as-dem

{ townhall.com } ~ On the night of Jan. 31, 1968, as tens of thousands of Viet Cong guerrillas attacked the major cities of South Vietnam, in violation of a Lunar New Year truce, Richard Nixon was flying secretly to Boston. At 29, and Nixon's longest-serving aide, I was with him. Advance man Nick Ruwe met us at Logan Airport and drove us to a motel in Nashua, New Hampshire, where Nixon had been preregistered as "Benjamin Chapman." The next day, only hours before the deadline, Nixon filed in Concord to enter the state's Republican primary, just six weeks away.

On Feb. 2, The New York Times story "Nixon Announces for Presidency" was dwarfed by a giant headline: "Street Clashes Go On in Vietnam; Foe Still Holds Parts of Cities; Johnson Pledges Never to Yield." Dominating the page was the photograph of a captured Viet Cong, hands tied, being executed on a Saigon street by South Vietnam's national police chief, firing a bullet into his head from inches away. Eddie Adams's photo would win the Pulitzer Prize.

America's most divisive year since the Civil War had begun.

Nixon's lone opponent for the Republican nomination was George Romney, three-term governor of Michigan and a legend at American Motors, where he had promoted the Nash Rambler. Romney had led in the polls in December 1966 and seemed the clear favorite, but by now he was not.

After campaigning in 35 states in 1966, leading the GOP to its greatest off-year victory in congressional races since 1946, Nixon had declared a moratorium on politics and dropped out of sight. Is it wise, I asked him, to cede Romney such a tremendous head start? Sensing what the press would do to Romney, Nixon told me, "Let 'em chew on him for a little while."

Nixon's instincts proved right. Romney was unprepared. On pre-campaign swings in 1967 he bickered with the press, and that August he made a fatal blunder. Explaining on a TV show why he was changing his position on the war, Romney said that on a previous visit to Vietnam, "I just had the greatest brainwashing anybody can get" from U.S. generals and diplomats.

The ridicule and mockery were ceaseless and universal. Sen. Eugene McCarthy said that, in Romney's case, a full brainwashing was unneeded, as "a light rinse would have sufficed." Romney plummeted in the polls, never to recover.

As Romney spun his wheels in New Hampshire, Nixon ignored his calls to debate, declining even to mention his name. Our polls showed us heading for a 5-1 landslide that would erase the "loser" image that had clung to Nixon since his loss to JFK in 1960 and his defeat in the California governor's race in 1962.

With humiliation ahead, Romney abruptly ended his candidacy on Feb. 28, 1968, robbing Nixon of his triumph. What historians call "crazy March" now began. In the Democratic primary in New Hampshire, Sen. McCarthy, running an anti-war protest campaign, got 42 percent of the vote. Lyndon Johnson won with 49 percent, though his name was not on the ballot. Inexplicably, the president of the United States had run as a write-in candidate.

Half the McCarthy voters were later identified as pro-war but fed up with LBJ's indecisive leadership. In January, North Korean commandos had assaulted the Blue House in Seoul and come close to assassinating President Park Chung-hee, and the U.S. spy ship Pueblo had been hijacked and its crew taken hostage by North Korean gunboats. Johnson had done nothing.

The press read into the McCarthy vote a repudiation of the war, and Johnson was now wounded. On March 16, Sen. Robert Kennedy leapt into the race. Speaking a week later in Los Angeles, he stuck the knife deep into his old antagonist, accusing President Johnson of "calling upon the darker impulses of the American spirit."

On March 21, Gov. Nelson Rockefeller of New York stunned the political world by declaring that he would not challenge Nixon. The anticipated battle inside the Republican Party seemed suddenly settled, just as a three-sided war broke out inside the Democratic Party. Alabama's Gov. George Wallace had announced he would run as a third-party candidate in the fall, while Kennedy and McCarthy battled for the nomination as they assaulted their own president.

The Tet Offensive proved a strategic disaster for the Viet Cong, who suffered tens of thousands of dead. But U.S. media portrayed Tet as an American defeat. On "The CBS Evening News," Walter Cronkite declared Vietnam a "stalemate."

Nixon moved to update his position. As his writers Ray Price, Dick Whalen and I argued in front of him at his Fifth Avenue apartment in New York on March 30, we got a call from our media folks: LBJ had asked to speak in prime time that Sunday night. Nixon canceled his prepared speech and, leaving for a Wisconsin event, told me to be at the private terminal at La Guardia Sunday to brief him on LBJ's address to the nation.

As Johnson was announcing that he would not run, Nixon's private jet was landing. I reached the airplane door ahead of the press and told him what LBJ had said. Nixon stepped out into the cameras to declare 1968 "the year of the dropout."

Four days later, the nation was stunned again. Martin Luther King Jr., in Memphis to support a strike by garbage workers, had been assassinated on a motel balcony. A hundred U.S. cities exploded in rioting, looting and arson. The National Guard was out everywhere. The weeklong rampage caused a backlash across Middle America, and Wallace's poll numbers vaulted. Support for Nixon, who went to Atlanta for King's funeral, sank.

As the race riots burned out, the worst campus riot of the decade erupted. At my alma mater, Columbia University, student radicals occupied Low Library and Hamilton Hall. They ransacked professors' offices and took a dean hostage. After a week, the NYPD, with clubs and sweeping arrests, recaptured the university. Nixon declared the uprising "the first major skirmish in a revolutionary struggle to seize the universities of this country and transform them into sanctuaries for radicals and vehicles for revolutionary political and social goals."

Rockefeller denounced Nixon, reversed himself and entered the race. But polls showed that America's patience with radicalism was exhausted. The country was with the cops wielding the clubs. Nixon had captured the law-and-order issue. When the Kerner Commission, set up to study the causes of the weeklong Newark and Detroit riots in the "long hot summer" of 1967, blamed "white racism," Nixon dismissed the report by saying it blamed everyone for the riots but the rioters themselves.

As the Democratic showdown approached in the Oregon primary, the media zeroed in on the revelation that, as attorney general, Kennedy had authorized J. Edgar Hoover to wiretap the now-martyred Martin Luther King Jr. The explosive charge led to Kennedy's defeat by McCarthy on May 28.

I was at Portland's Benson Hotel that night with Nixon, who had won 70 percent of the primary vote, crushing both Rockefeller and Reagan. Later in the evening, I was standing in front of the hotel when Bobby Kennedy arrived to concede defeat in the first loss by a Kennedy since JFK entered politics in 1946. Though Bobby had a reputation for being ruthless, he could not have been more gracious in conceding defeat that night.

A week later, I was awakened at 3 a.m. by Jeff Bell, a young aide at Nixon's campaign office. Bobby had been shot in a Los Angeles hotel kitchen after winning the California primary. Vice President Hubert Humphrey, the favorite after LBJ stood down, was now assured of the nomination.

The surging anti-war movement was demoralized, bitter and angry. Humphrey was seen as a Johnson lackey who would continue the war. Then, just days after Bobby was buried beside JFK at Arlington, Earl Warren resigned as chief justice, and LBJ named his old crony Justice Abe Fortas to replace him. All three wanted to prevent a President Nixon from naming the next chief justice. Senate Republicans aborted the insiders' deal and rejected Fortas. The Supreme Court wars that would endure into the 21st century had begun.

One week before the Democratic convention in Chicago, the Soviet Union sent hundreds of Warsaw Pact tanks and 250,000 troops into Czechoslovakia to crush the Prague Spring. As with the seizure of the Pueblo, President Johnson, with a half million U.S. troops now in Vietnam, did nothing.

The stage was set for an explosive Democratic convention in Chicago. I asked Nixon to send me. He agreed. Our listening post was on the 19th floor of the "Comrade Hilton." I was alone in the suite one night when Norman Mailer walked in with the light-heavyweight champion Jose Torres. As we talked, a commotion erupted outside. A phalanx of cops had marched up Balbo Drive to Michigan Avenue and halted. Suddenly, the cops took off into Grant Park, clubbing the radicals and dragging them to patrol wagons. Mailer and I saw it all from our 19th-floor window. On and on it went, as Torres cursed the cops and I stayed mute. I had been down there at night among the protesters, who were as ugly a crowd as I had seen in the Vietnam era.

When Humphrey left Chicago, the Democratic coalition that had given LBJ a historic landslide in 1964 was shattered. Wallace seemed certain to shear off the electoral votes of the Deep South. The McCarthy-Kennedy wing was enraged over how Mayor Richard Daley's cops had beaten the protesters. The nation had seen a convention where Democratic delegates cursed one another on the floor as their partisans brawled with police in the streets.

I came back from Chicago and told Nixon that we should side with Daley and the cops. Nixon's first campaign stop that fall was a motorcade through downtown Chicago, where huge crowds cheered him.

The Gallup poll in September had Nixon at 43, Humphrey at 28, Wallace at 21. At every campaign stop, Humphrey was shouted down with chants of "Dump the Hump!", until he came close to breaking down, denouncing his tormentors as "fascists."

Desperate, Humphrey rolled the dice on Sept. 30 and pledged to halt all U.S. bombing of North Vietnam. The impact was immediate. The heckling and abuse subsided. He began a steady ascent in the polls. His optimism returned, and he staged one of the great comebacks in presidential politics.

Then he caught a break. On Oct. 3, Wallace introduced his running mate, Gen. Curtis LeMay, who had led the firebombing of Tokyo and who told a stunned press that we Americans have "a phobia about nuclear weapons." To achieve victory in Vietnam, LeMay said, "I would use anything...including nuclear weapons." Wallace's voters began to abandon him and move back home to the Democratic Party.

The election ended in a virtual tie, with both candidates receiving roughly 43 percent of the popular vote. But Nixon had won in the Electoral College and was now president-elect of the United States.

What had 1968 wrought?

The American establishment, "the best and the brightest," had been broken on the wheel of Vietnam. Liberal elites would move to ally themselves with the antiwar left and to denounce as "Nixon's war" the cause into which they themselves had led the country.

The Cold War consensus that had existed from the Berlin blockade of 1948 through the Cuban missile crisis was no more. The Democratic candidate in 1972 would run on the slogan "Come home, America!" Foreign policy leadership passed from the party of Truman and Kennedy to the party of Nixon and Reagan. After 1968, the word "victory" was rarely heard. The goal now in Vietnam was "peace with honor" or "an end to the war."

Massive civil disobedience and violent protests would become the new normal. Failed and frustrated extremists would turn to bombings and terrorism. Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew would use the radical left and its media enablers as foils to drive a wedge right through FDR's Democratic coalition, with Nixon calling out his "Great Silent Majority" and Agnew tabling the issue of press power and media bias.

Nixon would be re-elected in 1972 in a 49-state landslide. In four of the five presidential elections after 1968, Nixon's new majority would crush the Democratic Party. By 1970, six years after Goldwater's defeat, twice as many Americans would call themselves conservatives as liberals.

As the political wars of 1968 turned American politics upside down, a cultural war had broken out as well. Moral and social issues -- abortion, affirmative action, busing, crime, drugs, feminism, gay rights -- would tear apart families, communities and the entire nation. The culture wars had begun.

We are another country now, another people. The unity we knew in the Eisenhower-Kennedy era is gone. 1968 was the great divide. 1968 was the turning point.

{ rickwells.us } ~ Before there was Jihadi Jeh Johnson with his CVE Countering Violent Extremism program of paying off mosques and Imams with American tax dollars... building the North American caliphate with bribes to not blow up or shoot Americans, Robert Mueller engaged in a ten year plan of increasing the Islamic terrorist threat and hamstringing Americans by compromising their ability to defend themselves. Rep Louie Gohmert was one of the first to call out Robert Mueller back when Mueller was the FBI Director and busily degrading America’s anti-terrorism capability by dismantling the FBI training program and removing all intelligence and references to Islamic terrorism, providing a false and incomplete picture of the role of Islam in promoting terrorist acts and compromising our counterterrorism capabilities. Gohmert called out the dirty anti-American traitor, appointed just a week before the attacks of September 11th, on September 4th, 2001, in two different hearings and elsewhere for Mueller’s own subsequent attacks on the United States, in service to both globalists George W. Bush and Hussein liar-nObama as well as their Islamic caliphate cabal...  https://rickwells.us/gohmert-mueller-destroyed-fbi/.

{ thepoliticalinsider.com } ~ Republicans of the conservative House Freedom Caucus have drafted articles of impeachment against Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein... who has overseen Robert Mueller’s special counsel probe. This document sets up a likely showdown for Republicans against the partisan witch hunt, which seemingly as no end in sight. The impeachment document shows just how far away conservatives are from Republican leadership, who have defended Muller’s investigation. The authors called the impeachment document “a last resort” and while it may not pass, it serves as a powerful political weapon as conservatives stand up to Mueller and partisans at the Justice Department. House Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), has been close to President Donald Trump, and Meadows finalized the draft recently. It takes direct aim over disputes about how badly Rosenstein handled congressional requests for documents behind the decisions in the Russia investigation, including just why investigators so quickly dismissed criminal charges while examining liar-Hillary Clinton’s home email server during the 2016 presidential campaign cycle...   https://thepoliticalinsider.com/rod-rosenstein-impeachment-house-republicans/?utm_medium=email&utm_source=criticalimpact&utm_campaign=TPI_Morning_050118_Newsletter&utm_content=4b4ea4948726422aa6473c7b9fa19141&source=CI

{ aei.org } ~ This spring has been marked by a remarkable phenomenon... the first statewide teacher strikes in recent memory. The strikes have been greeted with glowing press coverage and a remarkable degree of public support. After starting in West Virginia, things spread to Kentucky, Oklahoma, and most recently to Arizona and Colorado. Given all the claims and confusion surrounding these developments, it’s worth taking a moment to explain what’s going on, why both teachers and taxpayers have valid complaints, and how understanding all this can help point the way forward. First off, the teachers have a legitimate concern. Teacher pay is mediocre for college-educated professionals, and has fallen over time. Teacher pay declined by two percent in real terms after adjusting for inflation between 1992 and 2014. According to data tracked by the National Education Association (NEA), in 2016–2017, the most recent year for which data are available, average teacher pay nationally was $59,660. In the states where teachers have walked out, average pay is generally substantially lower than that. For instance, Kentucky’s teachers rank 29th nationally at $52,338; Arizona’s teachers 44th at $47,403; West Virginia’s 49th, at $45,555; and Oklahoma’s 50th, at $45,292...  http://www.aei.org/publication/the-facts-behind-statewide-teacher-strikes/?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiWXpBNVptWXlORGszTWpCaCIsInQiOiJGek8xZ1Z4b0diSHdTRFZKdGZTdEVLV2tsY3lNMDRMM3ZlaHdidlhjeGdLXC9GcnJ0dGdGUjNnb1N1TWxPclowcjV6ek1OMVVEKyt3OG1DMG5cL2JoUmwzQmJyMVRiSVYrQUdWRVp6WXB2bm0rMTJzTHkzYkVxcHBuUDU2SVcxd1YrIn0%3D

{ defenddemocracy.org } ~ For those who want to see what a real case of Russian collusion looks like, check out what has been happening in global oil markets for the past year and a half... In late 2016, Russia and Saudi Arabia conspired to cut supply and raise prices. With cooperation from the rest of OPEC, they’ve succeeded spectacularly. Prices that had plummeted below $30 per barrel have been steadily rising in the wake of the Saudi-Russian pact to throttle back production, hovering recently at around $70 a barrel. It could get worse. On his recent tour of the United States, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced that the kingdom’s goal was to extend its scheme to manage prices with Russia for another 10 to 20 years. The Saudi oil minister has suggested that OPEC and the Russians will continue tightening the market even though they’ve already succeeded in drying up a massive glut in global crude inventories. Saudi officials who just a few months ago were speaking of $70 as their target ceiling for prices now suggest that it may instead be the floor. They’ve apparently got their eye on $80, with plenty of talk that a return to $100 might be desirable. All of this proved too much for U.S. President Donald Trump. As the Saudis were hosting OPEC and the Russians at a meeting this month to admire their market manipulation handiwork, the president let loose a shot across the bow. “Looks like OPEC is at it again,” he tweeted, blasting the cartel for artificially inflating prices. “No good and will not be accepted!”...

More Fake News From CNN: Secret Service
Has No Record of Dr. Ronny Jackson
Banging on a Door While Drunk

by Katie Pavlich
{ townhall.com } ~ On Thursday, U.S. Navy Rear Admiral and longtime White House Doctor Ronny Jackson withdrew his nomination to be the next Veteran's Affairs Secretary after being accused of professional misconduct through media reports.

CNN reported earlier this week, on anonymous sourcing, that during an overseas trip in 2015 Jackson got drunk and belligerently banged on a female colleague's hotel door. CNN also reported the Secret Service stopped Jackson and that agents were worried he might wake up President liar-nObama.

Turns out, the Secret Service has no record of the incident.

"Over the last 48 hours, media  outlets have  alleged that U.S. Secret  Service personnel were forced  to  intervene during a Presidential foreign travel assignment in order to prevent disturbing former President Barack  liar-nObama," The Secret Service released in a statement. "The  Secret  Service  has  no  such record  of  any incident; specifically, any incident involving Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson. A thorough review of internal documents related to all Presidential foreign travel that occurred in 2015, in addition to interviews  of  personnel who were present during foreign travel that occurred during  the same time frame, has resulted in no information that would indicate the allegation is accurate."

"The physical health and wellbeing of Secret Service personnel when fulfilling our protective mission is of paramount importance to the Secret Service. Rear Admiral Jackson, in his role as the official White House Physician, has provided years of dedicated support to the men and women of the Secret Service, often miles from home and under difficult travel conditions, in order to ensure our personnel are healthy and prepared to execute our critical mission," the statement continues. "The Secret Service is grateful for the dedicated and outstanding professional service Rear Admiral Jackson has provided to the  agency - and more  importantly -his role supporting the greater  residential protection security apparatus."

When Jackson withdrew his name from consideration, he denied all allegations of ethical misconduct.

"Going into this process, I expected tough questions about how to best care for our veterans, but I did not expect to have to dignify baseless and anonymous attacks on my character and integrity," Jackson released in a statement. "The allegations against me are completely false and fabricated. If they had any merit, I would not have been selected, promoted and entrusted to serve in such a sensitive and important role as physician to three presidents over the past 12 years. In my role as a doctor, I have tirelessly worked to provide excellent care for all my patients. In doing so, I have always adhered to the highest ethical standards."

President Trump said he is a good man who Democrats were trying to destroy.

While Jackson will not become the next VA secretary, he will continue his service as President Trump's physician.

{ rickwells.us } ~ Former Pinal County Arizona Sheriff Paul Babeu is a bit premature and overly optimistic in his description... of the current policy on illegal alien squatters breaking into our country, particularly in the case of those from nations other than Mexico, claiming that catch and release has ended. It has not. David Asman plays a clip of President Trump decrying the practice and asks, “It’s not acceptable but wasn’t it sort of the status quo during the liar-nObama years?” Babeu replies, “It was and thank God for President Trump because he’s changed all that, just by his orders.” Not so fast, Babeu, you’re not Sheriff anymore but you’re still expected to tell the truth. President Trump wants to change it, but is being thwarted by the open border globalists. He says, “And so, we see not just ICE and the Border Patrol but also the Department of Justice under Sessions that are all working in concert to bring the full weight of what’s currently the laws on the books to bear.”...  https://rickwells.us/babeu-blowing-smoke-catch-release/.

{ freebeacon.com } ~ U.S. officials and congressional insiders view the disclosure Monday by Israel of Iran's ongoing efforts to develop a nuclear weapon as game over... for the landmark nuclear deal, telling the Washington Free Beacon that new evidence of Iran's top secret nuclear workings makes it virtually impossible for President Donald Trump to remain in the agreement. Senior Trump administration officials confirmed the findings as authentic and praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's for disclosing thousands of secret documents proving Iran lied about its past work on a nuclear warhead, telling the Free Beacon the revelation was a "powerful presentation" by Israel outlining why the Iran deal must be fixed or killed. U.S. officials who reviewed the secret documents confirmed their authenticity and said that Israel has shared the information fully with the United States, most likely to help build the case for Trump to abandon the nuclear deal, rather than try to fix what the White House views as a series of insurmountable flaws...  http://freebeacon.com/national-security/u-s-confirms-authenticity-secret-iran-nuclear-docs-officials-see-game-deal/?utm_source=Freedom+Mail&utm_campaign=3cc9093d01-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_04_30&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b5e6e0e9ea-3cc9093d01-45611665

This is another pathetic attempt to smear people close to President Trump and distract from the administration’s many successes.” Four officials told NBC News that Kelly has called Trump an “idiot." by Political Editors:  A recent study conducted by Nicholas Lewis and Judith Curry and published in the Journal of Climate found that the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) climate change models overestimate global temperature increases by a whopping 30% to 45%. Lewis explains, “Our results imply that, for any future emissions scenario, future warming is likely to be substantially lower than the central computer model-simulated level projected by the IPCC, and highly unlikely to exceed that level.”

And Lewis and Curry’s study isn’t the only one to make this claim. Reason notes, “Lewis and Curry’s estimates are in line with the similarly low estimates reported by climatologists Thorsten Mauritsen of Max Planck Institute for Meteorology and Robert Pincus of the University of Colorado in the July 2017 issue of Nature Climate Change.
Finally, about that global warming… This April has been one of the coldest on record
, which has forced many U.S. farmers to delay planting their crops. Mike Tannura of T-Storm Weather notes, “Based on the data we’re looking at today, there’s a chance it could be the coldest [April] of the entire period going back to 1895.” We have have yet another example demonstrating the absurdity of the often repeated phrase “settled science.”   ~The Patriot Post

Efforts 4 Ellie

  Dear Business Owners-

We are having our 4th Annual Golf Outing on
Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Bay Hills Golf Club.

Please consider being a sponsor for our event. We are raising funds for Glycogen Storage Disease 1B. It is a very rare liver disease that receives no government funding and can be fatal. Ellie receives around the clock care, drinks uncooked cornstarch and spends a lot of time at doctors and hospitals.

In recent months, we have lost several children to this horrible disease. This can be cured and we are fighting hard with this fundraiser to help fund Gene Therapy Trials at NIH. And the New GSD Global Center at UConn Children’s Hospital!!!!!

We thank you for your continued support for Ellie and others suffering from this rare disease. We hope to see you on June 7, 2018!

{ rickwells.us } ~ President Trump and Vice President Pence are meeting fire with fire in the instance of the showdown at the border... between patriots and the open border globalists of the uniparty, Democrats and RINOs. As the parasitic Pueblo sin Fronteras caravan of illegal invaders arrived at the border crossing and was told that for the second straight day there was no space for asylum applicants to be processed, the administration simultaneously made a public gesture in support of border security. Vice President Mike Pence visited Calexico in Imperial County, California, on Monday and got a firsthand look at the construction of a section of fencing that began almost ten years ago and which had been ignored by the open border liar-nObama regime in favor of maintaining it as an open means of circumventing our border protection for invading illegal alien squatters. Now the construction of the replacement barrier is being allowed to continue, by the Trump administration. In his comments Pence told a gathering of CBP agents in the audience, “This is a time in the life of the nation where we are especially grateful for the tough job that your teams do on our borders.”...  https://rickwells.us/pence-border-law-enforcement-wall/.

{ dailycaller.com } ~ Iranian deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi appeared to signal Monday the country’s imminent withdrawal... from the nuclear deal negotiated by the liar-nObama administration in 2015. “The Iran nuclear deal is no longer sustainable for Iran in its present form, without regard to a US exit,” Araghchi stated Monday, according to the Iranian Students News Agency. The deputy foreign minister’s comments came just before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave a speech claiming that Iran had been in violation of the nuclear deal. “First, Iran lied about never having a nuclear weapons program; 100,000 secret files proved that they lied,” Netanyahu argued. “Second, even after the deal, Iran continued to preserve and expand its nuclear weapons know how for future use. Why would a terrorist regime hide and meticulously catalog its secret nuclear files if not to use them at a later date. Third, Iran lied again in 2015 when it didn’t come clean to the IAEA as required by the nuclear deal.”...

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ On Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented what he said was secret Iranian documentation that proves... Iran's pre-2003 efforts to establish a nuclear weapons program. Netanyahu says this program was code-named by the Iranians as "Project Amad." Netanyahu claimed the "half a ton" of disks and paper documents were secured by Israel in a recent operation inside Iran.                In the mind of modern-day progressives, the above statement is tantamount to racial treason. Yet it wasn’t Chance who ignited a firestorm in the progressive fever swamps. It was fellow rapper Kanye West. A blizzard of Tweets that began with expressing support for black conservative commentator Candace Owens — who infuriates leftists with her talk about the “ideological civil war” occurring in the black American community, which she refers to as the “victim mentality versus victor mentality” — soon evolved into something far “worse.” West began tweeting support for President Donald Trump, including one with a picture of himself wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat, accompanied by the caption “we got love.
Love is the last thing Kanye got in return. “It’s nice to see black people and white people coming together to be complete freaking lunatics,” tweeted “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn. “That’s mighty white of u Kanye !Nigga if u don’t snap out of it Get out part 2,” offered rapper Snoop Dogg. “So, they’re streaming music in The Sunken Place?? That’s got Be where the audience @kanyewest is courting is gonna buy that new release!…,” added actor Samuel Jackson. “*Gets inspired *Starts writing ‘Get Out 2’,” director Jordan Peele tweeted.
“Get Out” and “Sunken Place” refer to the 2017 horror film “Get Out,” directed by Peele. In it, a racist white family uses mind-controlling hypnotism to steal the bodies of black people. That mind control is illustrated by lead actor Daniel Kaluuya, shown helplessly falling through all-encompassing darkness, unable to resist.
In other words, West can’t be free thinker, because a free thinker — especially a black American one — would never challenge the progressive worldview. A worldview that presently requires unquestioning hatred of Trump. Those who resist must be ostracized — and humiliated — because humiliation serves as warning to other potential “apostates.”
If this seems familiar it’s because what progressives are doing to West comes straight out of Saul Alinsky’s list of 13 “Rules for Radicals” playbook. Rule number 13: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.
And how are progressives trying to hurt West? By emulating the worst excesses of communist tyranny personified by Soviet psychiatrist Andrei Snezhnevsky. Snezhnevsky invented the term “sluggish schizophrenia” to describe those who opposed Communism as people who suffered from an “incoherent relationship to their objective social world.
In other words, one was either communist or mentally ill. Thus, two New York Post stories respectively refer to West suffering from an alleged nervous breakdown and a self-admitted addiction to opioids that precipitated the cancellation of tour dates in 2016. The Twitter-sphere is alive with speculation that West is bipolar, and Hollywood gossip rag RadarOnline insists it has “exclusively learned that wife Kim Kardashian and her famous family believe that drugs may be behind the rapper’s latest meltdown!
Thus, the Left and its media allies — the same bunch that has advocated for removing a “mentally unfit” Trump via the 25th Amendment — have already begun laying the same groundwork for West’s delegitimization. That delegitimization included a plethoraof fake news stories declaring West had lost nine million of his 27.8 million followers.
Celebrities went after West as well. On last Wednesday’s episode of “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert insisted that “Kanye has lost his mind.” Talk-show host Wendy Williams was a bit more creative, declaring that West has “really lost his mind.” “Westworld” actor Jeffrey Wright was even blunter, tweeting, “If you think Donald Trump is a good alternative to anything, you’re out of your phucking tree.
These celebrities epitomize the reflexive hatred for dissonant voices that has always been a progressive staple. Yet that reality was unbeknownst to millions of Americans because it simmered beneath the surface — until Trump was elected president. Since then the dam has burst, and those who loudly and often proclaimed their commitment to tolerance and diversity have been revealed as utter frauds. Moreover, that exposure has acted like a feedback loop, amplifying the hatred in a manner best described by columnist Victor Davis Hanson. “Everything from the NFL to late-night comedy shows have become Trump-hating venues,” he writesWest can expect the same treatment.
Is West crazy? As New York Post columnist Ed Krayewski  explains, the rapper is “dominating the news cycle” at a time when he is involved with five albums “due for release in the next six weeks.
Yet West’s state of mind is largely beside the point. He was undoubtedly a leftist hero when he insisted “Bush doesn’t care about black people” during an appearance on NBC at a live benefit concert for Hurricane Katrina relief in 2005. Now that he has shown support for Candace Owens, along with pro-Trump “Dilbert” cartoonist Scott Adams, he is not.
Moreover, despite what some conservatives are naive enough to believe, his sudden “conversion” to the other side of the political divide might be nothing more than another self-serving effort to advance his own agenda, much of which depends on a steady diet of notoriety.
Regardless, West has done the nation a huge favor by exposing the American Left’s state of mind. Yet if so many leftists truly believe he is crazy, why are they so outraged?
PJ Media’s Roger Simon offers some insight in that regard, explaining that demagogues like Al Sharpton and mad-Maxine Waters are “still tilting agains [sic] racist and sexist windmills, even if they’re not there. And if they are not there, then they will manufacture them, so they are able to fight them.” He adds, “And so, over the years, developing and evolving from them are now several generations of ‘mini-me’s,’ spouting the same rhetoric, sometimes exactly, sometimes finding new variations of the same tunes, as Social Justice Warriors, etc. It’s now the very air we breathe.”
West just “polluted” the air. He refuses to abide progressive dogma that insists millions of black Americans can either vote Democrat, or remain in a state of perpetual race-based victimization — and that anyone who says otherwise is perpetuating a “white supremacist” worldview.
Yet perhaps what infuriates leftists the most is that, barring recantation, West resembles Trump: a highly flawed agent of change with a hysterical, hate-filled status quo aligned against him.
And like Trump, recantation seems unlikely. His latest song, “Ye vs. The People” debuted Friday on a Los Angeles radio station. It includes the lyrics, “That’s the problem with this damn nation / All blacks gotta be Democrats/ Man, we ain’t made it off the plantation.”
For the last half-century, an overwhelming majority of black Americans have been unquestioning supporters of the Democrat Party. Even a modest change in that status quo would wreak havoc among those whose financial livelihood and/or political aspirations depend on preserving the narrative that America is an endemically racist nation — with no end to the division in sight.
Thus, West’s greatest “sin” comes down to a simple and contemptible reality: In terms of the racial grievance industry, he is bad for business.

Nasty, Rude Libtard Went Way Too Far

{ rickwells.us } ~ Sarah Sanders knew she was walking into the serpent’s lair as the prime target... seated next to the no talent liberal scum that was hired to hurl insults loosely described as a comedic appearance. Pathetic and rude do not equate to humorous, but that wasn’t the point. It was nothing more than an opportunity to demean President Trump and his staff, with Sanders as the designated stationary target, for the subhuman mongrels of the libtard left. She must have felt like walking over and decking the smug, nasally voiced twit, but controlled herself, portraying herself in a dignified manner as the trash, particularly this unfunny nobody, showed themselves for exactly what they are. The temptation for Sanders to position the pitcher within her easy reach across the chops of her antagonist must have been almost irresistible. The supposed comedian, Michelle Wolf, bears more resemblance to a 53 Buick than a funny person, as was quickly demonstrated over the course of her painful and antagonistic remarks. It was so bad that even ABC’s Jonathan Karl, seated next to Sanders, found it difficult to pretend her “jokes” were humorous or anything other than a string of mean spirited insults with no redeeming value...

{ prageru.com } ~ What’s in a word? Does it matter, for example, whether we call a foreigner who illegally moves to the United States an “illegal alien” or an “undocumented immigrant”?... Because language shapes how we see our world, the culture war is first and foremost a war of words – and the left is winning. The consequences can be seen everywhere: in politics, in education, in media. In this week’s video, Michael Knowles, host of the Michael Knowles Show, explains why we should not cede another syllable.

According to official news agency SANA, a military source said that “some military sites in the countryside of Hama and Aleppo provinces were exposed at 10:30 PM to a new aggression with hostile rockets.” The explosions following the strike registered as a 2.6 magnitude earthquake by the European Mediterranean Seismological Center, but the weapons used did not cause the quake. { gatestoneinstitute.org }~ As Greece struggles with accelerating economic decline and an increasing lack of public faith in the political leadership... the ruling Syriza coalition appears to be adopting a strategy of garnering votes from immigrants by expediting their naturalization process. According to a recent report in the Greek daily Parapolitika, Interior Minister Panos Skourletis is laying the groundwork to enable hundreds of thousands of immigrants to become citizens and vote in the next elections. Although the mandate of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras ends in September 2019, some analysts have been predicting a call for elections by the end of 2018. Until now, candidates for Greek citizenship had to be vetted by a committee. Under the new system, applicants will be granted citizenship automatically if they correctly answer 20 out of 30 questions online. In addition, the government is planning to allow immigrants over the age of 65 to obtain Greek IDs, without testing their knowledge of the Greek language. In other words, it will be easier to obtain Greek citizenship than a Greek fishing license. As a result, a total of 800,000 immigrants -- almost one-tenth of the native Greek population -- will soon become citizens. Transposed to the United States, that would be the equivalent of 32,000,000 new voters...   https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12227/voter-rolls-greece

{ foxnews.com } ~ It would be unconstitutional for Congress to prevent President Trump from firing Special Counsel Robert Mueller... who is probing Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election. I’m not saying that firing Mueller would be a wise move politically, nor am I urging the president to do so. That’s another issue. But under the Constitution, it is beyond the power of Congress to limit or impose conditions on any president’s authority to remove a political appointee within the Justice Department or any other department in the executive branch. Whether you think Donald Trump is an absolutely wonderful president or an absolutely awful one, this holds true, as it does for all other presidents, regardless of political party. Senators Thom Tillis, R-N.C., and Chris Coons, D-Del., are nevertheless pressing ahead to seek passage of legislation they are sponsoring called the Special Counsel Integrity Act. Under this bill, only the attorney general could discipline or remove a special counsel...

by David Limbaugh
{ townhall.com } ~ In their incessant, mostly baseless attacks against President Donald Trump, his leftist haters reveal much more about themselves than him -- and it's not an attractive revelation.

In what seemed like a parody of a coastal elitist disparaging inferior flyover Americans, CNN's Jim Acosta said that too many Americans can't see through Trump's act because they "don't have all their faculties." This is going pretty far, even for this smug activist masquerading as an objective journalist. But in his defense, who wouldn't unravel at the realization that one's diligent yearlong efforts to remove the president have failed so spectacularly?

Have you ever noticed that leftists often characterize conservative views as bigoted, and sometimes dangerous, to discredit and dehumanize them -- and suppress their speech? I dare say that as recently as a few decades ago even radical leftists wouldn't have openly abandoned the universally shared American ideal of free speech. Today, however, finding themselves defeated in the marketplace of ideas, they increasingly support restrictions on speech they don't like.

They routinely conceal their censorship schemes in handsome packages, such as the Fairness Doctrine, net neutrality, and seemingly innocuous campus speech codes, but their aim is the same -- to restrict or obtain a government-leveraged advantage over the speech of their political opponents. A ubiquitous telltale sign of such ploys is the insistence that they are promoting peace and harmony by protecting groups and society from offensive speech, especially that which could lead to violence.

This is grossly cynical sophistry. I could be mistaken, but I am unaware of any examples of conservatives using such specious reasoning to curtail speech they disfavor, and if I do encounter such efforts, I will oppose them, no matter how obnoxious I might find the speech.

Today, many leftists seem to be unashamed to cashier our unifying ideal of free expression -- to the point that some are outright admitting they value censorship of certain ideas over the principle of constitutionally protected speech. They are so intoxicated by their self-righteous advocacy of so-called diversity and tolerance that they contend that First Amendment guarantees should not apply to what they consider hateful utterances.

Jim Acosta doesn't go this far, but he and many of his leftist pseudo-journalistic colleagues, including CNN's chief White House correspondent April Ryan, have been arguing that by criticizing the mainstream media, Trump could cause anarchy around the globe. Please try not to laugh, because they appear to be serious.

"Fake news, by the president saying this, is not just a simple or cute little statement for some," said Ryan. "This has tentacles that are reaching overseas. ... Think about it. When you are in a country and your citizenry thinks that you're fake, thinks that what the news is saying is fake, there can be anarchy some kind of way. It causes a destabilization of democracies."

Acosta added that people around the country don't realize it's an act. "They don't have all their faculties in some cases -- their elevator might not hit all floors. My concern is that a journalist is going to be hurt one of these days."

There you have it. Red state Americans are too dim to understand that Trump and his evil mouthpieces like Sarah Huckabee Sanders know the press is truthful and are just maligning it as a cover to continue their nefarious schemes.

News flash: Trump and Sanders actually believe the liberal media are advocacy journalists who habitually slant and distort the news to advance their leftist agenda -- the foremost item of which is destroying Donald Trump and his presidency. And, yes, millions of Americans believe this, too -- not because they're being duped, but because it's true. What's somewhat unclear to me is which members of the mainstream press are self-deceived and which are knowingly deceiving others about their mission.

But how is accusing CNN and other liberal media of spreading rubbish tantamount to inciting violence or somehow likely to lead to it? I guess these leftists forget President liar-nObama's ongoing war on Fox News and conservative talk radio. Besides, Americans have been accusing their political opponents of lying since the nation was founded. Since when is that the same as promoting violence? Look around. When calls to violence accompany political speech in this nation they are usually coming from leftists -- and so they are projecting again. The abject hatred and intolerance of opposing ideas isn't emanating from the political right. Just ask Kanye West.

Revealingly, Acosta praises White House press briefings, which he claims expose the administration's "evasions, their lies, their falsehoods." What? Did you say lies? Are you inciting violence there, Jimbo? We're probably all hypocrites to some degree, but Acosta is gifted in the dark art.

The level of contempt these self-styled arbiters of truth have for the rest of us rubes is as astonishing as it is revealing. Are they actually saying that we can't question their veracity without exposing them to danger?

I'm young enough to remember when journalists, even liberal ones, at least pretended the events they were reporting were bigger than themselves. Now they are not as much about reporting the news as making it -- and putting themselves at the center of it. They might as well discontinue the charade -- we're on to them.

{ rickwells.us } ~ The stench of the raw sewage floating in the Pacific Ocean at the border... might be an effective deterrent protecting us from the squatter caravan, if they weren’t already accustomed to the smell, coming from areas that are even worse than Tijuana, where raw sewage is commonplace. What would be offensive to Americans is a lure to the maggots that have made their way to our southern border. Now the scum-Soros funded lawyers, also parasites and maggots, are coaching them on how to best manipulate their way into US residency. It’s important to the scum-Soros globalists to send a message, that DHS and the United States government are feckless and incapable of keeping women, children and their cling-on men out of our nation. They’re announcing to the 3rd world that anyone who wants to invade, take an American’s job or student slot, should feel free to do so. liar-nObama and the leftist Dems and RINOs had bastardized our laws to the point that it’s illegal to enforce them. Congress has tied us up in their open border knots. The invading squatters chant “Si Se Puede” in one of those choreographed “spontaneous” demonstrations that the left is so fond of. They don’t speak English but demand in a foreign language their “parasitic right to invade and sponge” – just because they want to. The stupid people are the ones who don’t chant, who fill out forms and pay filing fees to immigrate legally, waiting and following the law. by Peggy Noonan
{ peggynoonan.com } ~ This is what I thought when I first met her: “She is a strong woman, not ego-driven but protective of kith and kin. Those merry eyes, the warmth, the ability to get the help cracking in a jolly way and then not so jolly. A lack of pretension, a breeziness, but underneath she is Greenwich granite, one of the women who settled the hard gray shores of the East and summoned roses from the rocks.”

That’s how I saw Barbara Bush 30 years ago and wrote in a book, and though I wouldn’t put it in quite those words today—Greenwich, Conn. has granite mostly in its supply outlets, and she grew up a few miles away, in Rye, N.Y.—it’s still how I see her.

So many words have been said of her this week, all of them true—tough, funny, hardy, sensitive to those in trouble. I’d add:

She is being celebrated so warmly in part because she reminds us of how normal American political figures used to act before this garish age. We have a newfound appreciation.

She was beautiful. She had no physical vanity and in fact mocked her looks: The strings of pearls were to hide her neck wrinkles, when her hair turned white it turned white. But the bones of her face were strong and delicate, and her eyes sparkled.

Her life spanned. As a child she used to see a young pilot named Amelia Earhart, who briefly lived nearby. She was scared by the kidnapping of the Lindbergh baby. She saw the Hindenburg over Long Island Sound. She lived through World War II as a Navy wife, was a participant in history from China during Mao through the fall of the Berlin Wall. She was part of the whole shebang.

As the journalist and historian Sally Bedell Smith said, “She was a great dame.”

And we are not truthful when, on TV, we use the dumb, plonking language of public death: “America is heartbroken today.” It is not. It looks at that stupendous life and feels two things, gratitude and respect.

Her death has me thinking about what first ladies—let’s cut to the chase and say first spouses, for there will be a first gent soon enough and there’s no reason language shouldn’t precede events—do. What do we ask of them?

To keep it all together, the public and the private, in a high-stakes atmosphere of daily and dramatic stress. You must be a person of balance. There’s a lot to manage: staff, state dinners, kids, friends and relatives, your spouse in an impossible job. You must perform within a context of fame, which means the mistakes you make, and have made, become famous.

It takes a lot to achieve adequacy in such a role, never mind perform it well.

The historian Michael Beschloss, completing his decadelong work on his coming book, “Presidents of War,” took time to think aloud about the role’s essentials.

It is not a constitutional role and in a way the drafters, as they often did, left it to President Washington to figure out. “George made it George and Martha,” Mr. Beschloss said. “She was his friend, wife, partner, hostess.” She helped build the public stage. “They created at Mount Vernon a setting that was up to the standard of what a great leader’s home would be—a proper frame for George Washington. ” The first ladies who followed, Abigail Adams and Dolley Madison (Jefferson was a widower), “were conscious of being like Martha—the national mother.” Had Washington not had the wife he did, “history could have unreeled differently.”

A baseline necessity of the role: “Trying to ensure the happiness and tranquillity of the president.” One heroic example: Lady Bird Johnson. Lyndon B. Johnson suffered mood swings. He got “too excited and too upset about things that are a moderate political problem,” and too depressed about serious problems. “She was enormously sensitive to his moods. She pulled him up when he was down and back to earth when he was up.” When first spouses perform this role well, “it’s not only good for the president, it’s good for the republic.”

Next, “helping the president achieve in his chief-of-state role.” A first spouse must be able to do ceremony. Here Jackie Kennedy set the standard. “Many of the ceremonies that are now associated with the White House—formal welcoming events on the South Lawn, fife and drum, people in colonial costume—were begun by her.” Mrs. Kennedy “was sensitive to the importance of ceremony in the U.S. being seen as a great power. Why should the French do it better?”

Another part of the job: policy influencer. Mr. Beschloss cites Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosalynn Carter and liar-Hillary Clinton as “great political partners.” For others the depth of their involvement becomes clear to historians with time. Nancy Reagan famously had an impact on her husband’s view of staff and appointees. History has come to understand Jackie Kennedy did too.

First spouses have profound cultural power. When Mrs. Kennedy had Pablo Casals play at the White House, she was saying high art not only has a revered place in the people’s house, it has a high role in the people’s lives. Lady Bird’s cause was getting America to clean up its physical environment. When she became first lady in 1963 we were a nation that threw the Coke bottle out of the car onto the country road. By the time she left, somehow we didn’t.

Barbara Bush’s cause was literacy, and she worked it hard until the day she died. Mr. Beschloss mentions another area in which she made a contribution, mental health. She had suffered from depression in the 1970s and spoke of it in the White House. In her memoir, Mrs. Bush wrote: “I felt ashamed. I had a husband whom I adored, the world’s greatest children, more friends than I could see—and I was severely depressed.” She had suicidal thoughts: “Sometimes the pain was so great, I felt the urge to drive into a tree or an oncoming car.” When she was in the White House, Mr. Beschloss notes, there was “still a stigma” to mental-health problems and Mrs. Bush’s frankness was “bold and helpful.” She urged people not to tough it out but get help.

A final part of being a good first spouse: being the president’s radar. Mrs. Bush, like Mrs. Reagan, had sharp eyes and a certain skepticism about people and their motives. “They were good at spotting dangers in people. There’s an element of ‘the kindly president and the first lady who thinks the president is too good for this world.’ Ronald Reagan and George Bush found wives who provided for them what they could not do themselves.”

A final part of the job: to model dignified behavior for a nation that always benefits from the sight of it. Good first spouses know the institution they represent, the American presidency, has height. They portray that height each day by behaving with patience, humor, kindliness.

Mr. Beschloss felt we’ve been lucky in the first ladies of the recent past. He’s right, isn’t he? Whatever party, whatever foibles, the institution has stood the test of time.

So thank you, George and Martha. And thank you, George and Barbara.

{ rickwells.us } ~ As with seemingly everything that involves the FBI, DOJ or Intelligence agencies, they claim a privilege of operating beyond... the reach of the American people, including to a large degree, Congress, and when they are pressed for compliance, do so only begrudgingly, at the last possible moment, and to the minimum extent possible. The same is true for their political comrades in the Democratic Party. They even pay substantial amounts of money to keep the knowledge of their corruption private, with the DNC paying third party contractor CrowdStrike $521,000 to analyze their supposedly hacked server, something the FBI would have gladly done free of charge. The FBI also paid CrowdStrike $150,000 in July of 2015, in what was supposedly an unrelated expenditure. That’s over 2/3 of a million bucks for secret services which Democrats could have obtained for no charge, if they didn’t feel the need to prevent their actions from being discovered. For a political party in need of funding, wasting almost $700,000 would seem a bit reckless on its face, but we don’t know what they’re hiding...  https://rickwells.us/sessions-dnc-server-evidence/

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ There is a great deal of discussion about the combative and hate-riddled language coming from Comey, Clapper and particularly Brennan...  Be aware their combative posture as an actual risk avoidance strategy. Each of the three heavily corrupt officials engaged in the most substantive abuse of their intelligence positions for political purposes. Each of them weaponized their offices against their political opposition. The scope and severity therein is a story yet to surface; and unlike prior examples of weaponizing the DOJ and IRS, there is no administration in place to protect them from investigative sunlight. Therefore the Comey, Clapper and Brennan defense strategy is to position themselves politically and lean on their like-minded media allies for support.  Their adversarial posture is intended to draw the Trump administration into political combat, thereby diminishing any investigative outcomes behind a false shield of political prosecution....

{ freebeacon.com } ~ Congressman scum-Adam Schiff (D., Calif.) said during an interview Sunday on ABC's "This Week"... that it was fair to give President Donald Trump credit for North Korea coming to the negotiating table. ABC anchor Jonathan Karl asked scum-Schiff if the president deserves at least some credit for the progress that is being made on North Korea. "Doesn't the president deserve credit for at least partial credit for what we're seeing unfold on the Korean peninsula?" Karl asked. "I think it's more than fair to say that the combination of the president's unpredictability and indeed his bellicosity had something to do with North Korea's willingness to come to the table," scum- Schiff replied. "But before the president takes too much credit or hangs out the ‘mission accomplished' banner, he needs to realize we may go into a confrontational phase, and he may not want the full blame if things go south."...

Liberals challenged the Texas voter ID laws, saying the laws were racist and preventing the poor people and minorities in Texas from being able to vote. (thats a lie) Trying to appease the Democrat cry, Texas expanded the types of IDs that could be used to register to vote. The court has appeased them even more, further extending the types of IDs acceptable as well as lengthening the term for expired IDs to be used. by L. Brent Bozell III and Tim Graham
{ cnsnews.com } ~ Back in '92, the late Paul Weyrich and I held a press conference during the Republican National Convention to make two announcements.

First, we were endorsing George Bush 41's re-election. Second, we'd just made the most meaningless endorsement in history. He had so thoroughly bungled his first term that there was nothing to be done to save him. And we were right.

The Republicans are now facing the same future in November. At this point, they will certainly lose the House and quite possibly the Senate. Worse, they've so botched their opportunity that only they can save themselves now. Their $1.3 trillion omnibus bill was not just the most reckless spending bill in history, it was an abject surrender on every single political and policy pledge made to those who put them in office, save helping the military.

It's been this way from the start. First, they asked for control of the House and its appropriations authority to right the fiscal ship, and as importantly, to end liar-nObamacare. In 2010, they got it — and immediately stated they could do nothing without the Senate. In 2014, they were awarded that, too — and just as quickly declared they could do nothing without the White House. So, in 2016 they were handed that, and with it complete control of the legislative process, but now with no more excuses available.

And what have they done? They surrendered without a fight. Any real advance, be it Justice Gorsuch, regulatory relief, minimal border security, minimal tax cuts or minimal changes in liar-nObamacare, has all been driven by the White House. Congress has done nothing.

Here's the difference between the two parties. For the past eight years, the GOP has been the party that begins each conversation with, "This is why we can't do it." The Democrats begin theirs with, "This is how we'll get it done." The crisis for Republicans is so grave that not even a rhetorical shift will save them. Only action, concrete action, might. They must come up with victories.

Here's what they need to do, in six easy steps.

1. Like it or not, they must wrap themselves around the president to save him from impeachment. This means publicly embracing him as their leader. More to the point, it means supporting everything he puts on the table from here through November, and doing it with brio.

2. Reverse that disastrous $1.3 trillion omnibus. This talk about a revision, or worse, a balanced budget amendment, is the height of hypocrisy and the public's not going to stand for it. It's like committing rape and then joining the #MeToo movement. Only tangible results, legislation that reduces the deficit and puts the government on the road to fiscal sanity, will work.

3. Kill liar-nObamacare. Nothing less will do. The public that voted these Republicans in has had it with excuses and half-measures.

4. End the funding of Planned Parenthood. The pro-life movement is leaving the GOP, and for good reason. When Republicans award the operation that proudly massacres more than 300,000 babies annually with $450,000,000 dollars taken from American taxpayers, there's no difference between the parties.

5. Fund border security. The base will not stomach any more of the GOP's public displays of affection for Chuck clown-Schumer while denying funds for Trump's border wall. Promises made, promises broken.

6. Deliver real personal tax cuts. What they came up with last year rewarded big business nicely while excusing nearly 50 percent of Americans from the responsibility of paying taxes altogether. Everyone else was given a small amount of relief. Those were your voters, GOP.

Here is the bottom line. On Sept. 30, five weeks before the election, there will be the need for a new spending bill to keep the government running. Everything listed above can be accomplished in that one piece of legislation. No more excuses. No more punts. No more stalling.

It's so obvious, really. At this point the GOP faithful are set to make a devastating declaration in seven months: "We gave you complete control, and you not only accomplished nothing, you broke your word on virtually everything. Good-bye."

And you know what, Republicans? They're right.

MAY DAY: UNITE!

MAY DAY: UNITE!

Today, May 1st, is an unofficial holiday where the community organizers of the international labor unions celebrate the communist movement.

The city of Seattle has a proposal dubbed the "Head Tax" where all businesses that has $20 million in revenue (not necessarily profit) will be forced to pay an average of $500 a year per worker.

Example: It's reported that Amazon employs 40,000 in Seattle, WA. That adds up to $20 million in additional taxes / overhead per year. This new "head tax" is very much a an attack on JOBS. Lets not forget how these very radical democrat-controlled cities and states are also moving towards unearned wage hikes to $15/hr - which are NOT based on any sort of a particular JOB SKILL or PERFORMANCE, or even how profitable a business may be. Bottom line, it's a entitlement mandate which, as we've seen throughout history, either completely destrpys a business or, at the very least, w/ the business relocating either out of the particular city or state; or out of the country all together.

So, tell me, comrads, how does NO JOBS benefit the worker or the local community or economy?

Btw, "May Day" is also a distress call when a plane is going down! Poetic, huh!

Party on, comrads!

Luis .

fail-1.jpg?width=234As we get near the 2018 midterm elections, with an eye on 2020, the democratic party thinks they have it all figured out. They’re busy, even as you read this, laying the groundwork for their new and improved political platform.

Given the direction they’re going, they must believe they’ve finally unlocked the key to their 2016 presidential defeat.

The liberals just weren’t…

Liberal enough.

In light of that epiphany, the left side of the political aisle has decided to slide even further to the left, because…apparently…the socialists weren’t socialist enough to win in 2016, and by becoming more socialist than Castro, they think they’ve got a shot at it this November, and in 2020.

To highlight the plunge over the abyss of socialism that they now believe will raise them to new heights…

{ foxbusiness.com } ~ T-Mobile US Inc. and Sprint Corp. agreed on Sunday to merge in an all-stock transaction... following previous failed attempts to combine the two companies. The new company will be named T-Mobile, with current CEO John Legere remaining in charge, and will be headquartered in Bellevue, Washington, while a second headquarters will be located in Overland Park, Kansas – the current headquarters of Sprint. “This combination will create a fierce competitor with the network scale to deliver more for consumers and businesses in the form of lower prices, more innovation, and a second-to-none network experience – and do it all so much faster than either company could on its own,” Legere said in a statement. “As industry lines blur and we enter the 5G era, consumers and businesses need a company with the disruptive culture and capabilities to force positive change on their behalf.”

DACA Ruling Threatens the Integrity of Our Entire Justice System

{ totalconservative.com } ~ From the outlandish injunctions against President Trump’s travel ban to the equally-absurd blocks on his decision to disqualify transgenders from military service... the past 16 months have been an astonishing demonstration in the power and danger of judicial activism. But while there was little legal defense for those rulings, they don’t even come close to the nefarious decision that just came down from U.S. District Judge John Bates. In his ruling, which orders the Trump administration to not only continue to accept applications for DACA renewals but to keep accepting NEW applicants, Bates has tarnished the rule of law and threatened the integrity of our entire justice system. The key to understanding the sheer egregiousness of this ruling is to break it down to its simplest components. Barack liar-nObama went around Congress and the appropriate federal rule-making processes to create DACA in 2012. Immediately, legal experts and Republicans accused him of abusing the power of the executive branch to defy the established federal law on immigration. liar-nObama, in turn, claimed that he was merely codifying his policy of “prosecutorial discretion”: He was directing immigration authorities to leave the children of illegal immigrants alone and instead focus on the bad guys. This didn’t pass muster, of course, because DACA went much further than liar-nObama’s right to direct ICE. It established work permits and other special benefits for Dreamers that had nothing to do with protecting them from deportation. It was, in effect, a version of executive amnesty, a situation that only grew worse in 2014 when liar-nObama having gotten away with one power grab tried to go even further. He signed DAPA, which extended the same amnesty to the parents along with a whole host of extra-legal benefits...  http://totalconservative.com/daca-ruling-threatens-the-integrity-of-our-entire-justice-system/

by clarionproject.org
{ clarionproject.org } ~ A terrorism report released by the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security has come under fire from two groups seeking to suppress the information contained in the report, reported The Washington Times.

Muslim Advocates and Democracy Forward are suing the government to block report, saying that it is so misleading that it violates the Information Quality Act.

The report found that 73 percent three out of every four persons convicted of international terrorism-related charges in U.S. courts between September 11, 2001 and December 31, 2016 were foreign-born.

During the same time period, the report states, “U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement removed approximately 1,716 aliens with national security concerns. Further, in 2017 alone DHS had 2,554 encounters with individuals on the terrorist watch list also known as the FBI’s Terrorist Screening Database traveling to the United States.”

The report was required by President Trump’s Executive Order 13780, “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States.” The order directed the government to raise the baseline for the vetting and screening of foreign nationals to “prevented the entry of malicious actors,” thus “enhancing the safety and security of the American people.”

Commenting on the report, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said, “This report reveals an indisputable sobering reality—our immigration system has undermined our national security and public safety.

Sessions further said, “And the information in this report is only the tip of the iceberg: we currently have terrorism-related investigations against thousands of people in the United States, including hundreds of people who came here as refugees.  Our law enforcement professionals do amazing work, but it is simply not reasonable to keep asking them to risk their lives to enforce the law while we admit thousands every year without sufficient knowledge about their backgrounds.”

Critics who object to the report – and Trump’s travel pause — say it is misleading in that the number of foreign-born people convicted of terrorism-related charges in recent years has significantly decreased. One such critic, Karen Greenberg, who is the director of the Center on National Security at Fordham University School of Law, says 60 percent of individuals convicted of ISIS cases in the U.S. in “the last few years” were born in the U.S.

Greenberg, however, did not offer the number of years for her statistic, nor did she comment all terror-related cases (only those involving ISIS).

Ironically, Greenberg as well as other critics say that the report is too vague, pointing to certain language in the report.

For example, when the report states that in 2017 alone the DHS had 2,554 encounters with individuals on the terrorist watch list, it does not state the outcome of those encounters.

“You can’t say because someone is investigated that they’re guilty,” said Greenberg.

Critics also noted that the report does not include statistics about white supremacist groups for comparison. One reason is because the report looked at terror-related cases in federal courts. Since there are no federal laws regarding domestic terrorism, those cases are tried in state court or through other federal charges such as murder or using a weapon of mass destruction.

The executive order banning immigration from countries considered to be security risks was lifted in January after a 90-day review of vetting rules. New procedures are now in place to weed out potential security and criminal risks from Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Mali, North Korea, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Yemen and other countries that remain unnamed.

{ rickwells.us } ~ Former liar-Clinton adviser Mark Penn has some ideas about the Mueller probe that President Trump and his team might want to consider... Penn told Martha MacCallum, “Look, I spent a year fighting Ken Starr and I think any reasonable person looking at what happened here says this investigation had no foundation and whatever foundation it had was not only wrong but corrupt.” He continues, “I think Christopher Steele was part of the FBI when he leaked, lied and was fired, Page and Strzok are clearly biased, the head of the FBI was clearly biased, the head of the CIA appeared to be doing illegal leaks as well, this whole thing was corrupt.” Penn says, “There’s a doctrine called the fruits of the poisonous tree that says when investigations get started like this, when searches and seizures are done on this basis, they should be thrown out. { lidblog.com } ~ Whenever I see media reports that the U.S. military was behind a climate study... I know to approach it with caution. It was a favorite messaging tactic of the liar-nObama administration to defense-wash its political themes, presenting them as if the most trusted brand in American public life – the uniformed military – had made those themes a priority, independent of partisan politics. Such is the reports of a “military” paid study about a rising sea-level. The “Pentagon,” in the sense of the people in uniform operating our armed forces, doesn’t do that. Its policy priorities are the priorities of the political leadership in the White House. That’s what “civilian control of the military” means. It means the Pentagon is required to prioritize what the Commander-in-Chief tells it to prioritize. It means that when the Pentagon is spending operating money on renewable energy, and R&D money on climate studies, it’s because that’s what the president wants money spent on...

Within this project some breakout discoveries need to be highlighted. One of those discoveries pertains to the Fox News interview with James Comey and Bret Baier. Within the interview Mr. Comey is questioned about the announcement of re-opening of the liar-Hillary Clinton email investigation on October 28th, 2016. In his response to why there was a delay between the FBI being notified by New York on September 28th, and waiting until October 28th, James Comey revealed a very important nugget....

The Ethanol Swamp Isn't Getting Drained

E40swGgMEjL42SFMTpPSoIyBCjVbmjGg0KLuEMyFi4J7YD1qEcgh6GUtUxW95pBI9EMb0xbWDCuqGra3PpoecZ8VhYkzkR6xJWlCkpPqRgpensHGpE5XSYyoZuCNpsTUbh1b_WbSUYGx3ebEBsdfEW0lAuGbEoVj577rFxcNinI=s0-d-e1-ft#%3Ca%20rel%3Dnofollow%20href=?width=450by Brian Mark Weber:  When Candidate Donald Trump courted voters in 2016, they were drawn to his commonsense approach to fixing problems — an approach that drew a clear distinction between his candidacy and others. Trump spoke about restarting America’s stagnant economy, bringing back jobs and industry, and making our country energy independent. So why would a billionaire businessman-turned-president support an ethanol industry that hurts the economy?

You guessed it: politics. But it’s not as simple as a Republican president going up against Democrat opposition in Congress. This is about the swamp, which includes powerful congressional Republicans who think about their own power first and what’s good for America second.
And the very swamp that Trump promised to drain won’t lose a drop as long as the ethanol industry wields its influence on Capitol Hill. Case in point: When EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt mentioned the possibility of rolling back the ethanol mandate last fall, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the King of the Corn Belt, threatened to prevent the confirmation of Donald Trump’s EPA nominees.
Grassley, chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, won’t stop there. Grassley has the authority to prevent the vote on any one of President Trump’s nominees. Don’t doubt for a second that Grassley won’t hold up important nominations to ensure that our tax dollars continue to subsidize the woefully inefficient (and environmentally unfriendly) ethanol industry of his native Iowa.
It looks like Grassley’s threat, as well as pressure from the corn and ethanol lobbies, is working. At a recent White House meeting, President Trump announced that he may allow the sale of gasoline blended with 15% ethanol year round. He added, “We’re going to work out something during the transition period, which is not easy, very complicated.
The problem with President Trump’s nod to Big Corn is that it comes with great costs and flies in the face of everything the president has touted about creating jobs and strengthening the economy. He knows this, but he also knows that the Corn Belt states helped put him in the White House. That’s why Candidate Trump promised to expand ethanol production during the 2016 presidential primaries, and he’s not walking it back.
Naturally, this new policy will be embraced by the farmers who’ll reap the benefits of increasing production. On the other hand, oil refiners will balk at the Renewable Fuel Standard, which they correctly claim is too costly and forces smaller companies to buy RINs (renewable identification numbers) from larger companies that have unused credits to spare.
Pruitt, then, appears to be the only hope for reversing the ever-expanding ethanol mandate. Interestingly, he was recommended to the position by the owner of a small oil refinery that currently faces stiff costs in order to meet the federal ethanol mandate. But Pruitt’s influence can only go so far. In fact, it leaves us wondering whether the long knives that are now out for Pruitt have been dipped in ethanol.
While Pruitt has stated that the burden on refineries and the RINs need to be addressed, President Trump isn’t ready to budge. Neither is the president’s Agriculture Secretary, Sonny Purdue, who stated last year, “Ethanol is here to stay, and we’re going to work for new technologies to be more efficient.
Despite the effort of ethanol’s proponents to market their product, its negative effects cannot be dismissed. A full decade ago, even the left-leaning Time magazine ran a cover story entitled “The Clean Energy Myth,” an article whose takeaway was that “politicians and big business are pushing biofuels like corn-based ethanol as alternatives to oil. All they’re doing is driving up food prices and making global warming worse — and you’re paying for it.
While it’s true that the anthropogenic global warming industry is full of hot air, Big Ethanol’s claim that its product is better for the environment is simply false. Ethanol production emits more CO2 than fossil fuels. And there’s the impact of higher food and fuel prices, which further hurt our economy. Add the fact that ethanol production has wiped out millions of acres of conservation lands and diverted a significant amount of our food supply away from those who need it most, and there’s little to like. Actually, this boondoggle is just flat-out appalling.
At the time, the 2005 law requiring oil refineries to blend 10% plant-based ethanol into their fuel seemed reasonable, as U.S. oil production was still dependent on expensive overseas crude and environmentalists were pressuring Congress to produce clean energy. So it’s no wonder that the use of fuels blended with ethanol sounded like a perfect marriage between environmentalists wanting to produce clean energy and oil interests wanting to protect their industries.
Ten years out, and there are only two beneficiaries of ethanol: the agriculture and ethanol industries. The rest of us are victims of yet another clean-energy scam now supported by the very president who promised to drain the swamp and clean up cronyism in Washington. On this issue, the swamp is the hands-down winner.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ rickwells.us } ~ Deputy Ice Director Tom Homan addresses the Uniparty globalist/RINO self-imposed restraints that make border security virtually impossible to achieve... citing the squatter caravan from Central America as an example of just how badly the open borders traitors have compromised and diminished our nation’s ability to defend itself from invasion. Tucker Carlson notes that while some of the illegals may opt to sneak across, many will simply surrender and demand asylum, which gives them a court date and a ticket out into American society. liar-nObama and his corruptocrats, working in conjunction with their well-positioned activist judges have really gotten one over on America this time. Carlson asks if it would be possible for those enforcing our immigration policies to simply say to the squatters, “You are not residents, you have no legal right to come in, no you can’t cross the border.” Homan takes a minute to note that if they were really seeking asylum they just passed through Mexico, which had offered them asylum, so that’s not it. { aei.org } ~ Many Republican policymakers in Congress and some officials in the Trump administration continue... to confuse insurance deregulation in the individual market with unleashing market forces in health care. They are not the same thing. Thinking otherwise leads to misplaced emphasis on ideas that might help some insurance enrollees in the short-term but will have very little effect on their lifetime costs. The primary problem with the provision of medical care in the U.S. is the absence of an overall system of cost discipline. Unlike other sectors of the economy, medical services are not bought and sold in a well-functioning marketplace that rewards value, innovation, and efficiency. There are many reasons for this, including the large imbalance in information between suppliers of services and patients, which leads to market failure. Further, despite the existence of many government rules for health insurance and the provision of medical care, the U.S. also does not have effective regulatory control over total costs. Instead, what we have is a mishmash of large public subsidies for insurance enrollment, government regulations, and some private activity and incentives too. Unfortunately, the sum of these parts does not add up to a coherent whole. Instead, U.S. health care suffers from rampant waste, inefficiency, high administrative costs, and uneven quality...  http://www.aei.org/publication/deregulating-the-individual-market-will-not-lower-overall-health-costs/?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiT1dOaE5qQmhPR1JrTVRsbCIsInQiOiJ5STVCQzJhWms4WlwvYXBOSTFsVGkyQkRFQlpMaE1cL1c2bVJXR1B0YmoyR010Skh3Skl0TGJHcG5KSFZzTkFyRCt2VXY1SlI4M1wvMXpxWjYyV1ZWRUhoYnp5Vm9HOUEwTGZlVGJhcmg3NW9oQXB4cUtvSmZBZHB1am0wakdYZUtTcyJ9

But the internet gatekeeper would have had to leave his safe space of corporate and even congressional sycophancy. Ignoring the censorship of conservative news and viewpoints by the social media giants, those who smiled sweetly as the likes of James Comey and Andrew McCabe lied through their teeth accused Diamond and Silk (AKA Lynette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson) of being paid Trump staffers and then lying about it, the issue being FEC records showing they were paid for "field consulting" during the 2016 campaign. { americanthinker.com } ~ "Just the facts, ma'am."  That was Joe Friday's interrogation refrain on Dragnet... The same comment could serve as the subtitle of Thomas Sowell's recent book, Discrimination and Disparities. Few works on politically explosive topics maintain such a consistent focus on empirical evidence while avoiding rhetorical jabs at opponents. On the other hand, empirical evidence cuts deep, especially when critics can't protest the author's "nasty" style. As radio talker Larry Elder observes, "facts are to liberals what kryptonite is to Superman." Sowell's title, if employed by a member of the leftist intelligentsia, would doubtless imply a causal link between statistical disparities and some form of discrimination – usually racial. Sowell, by contrast, marshals an abundance of evidence to show that this automatic assumption isn't justified. Focusing simply on statistical probabilities, Sowell notes that if five prerequisites are needed for success in a particular field, and if the chances are two out of three that any person will have each characteristic, the chance of possessing all five characteristics are still only one in eight – a calculation that helps explain why most pro golfers have never won a PGA tournament while Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods have collectively won over 200 times. Consequently, "given multiple prerequisites for many human endeavors, we should not be surprised if economic or social advances are not evenly or randomly distributed among individuals, groups, institutions or nations at any given time."...   https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/04/thomas_sowells_last_word.html

Trump: Transparency Will Lower Health

Care Costs

With little recourse for knowing the price before the care is provided, it’s like purchasing a service almost entirely in the dark. Imagine if a restaurant worked this way: A costumer comes in and makes an order and asks the cost, only to have the server respond, “You’ll find out when you get the bill.” Clearly, such an establishment would struggle to stay in business.

Well, President Donald Trump wants to change that. On Tuesday, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released proposed regulations that would require hospitals to provide a list of standard prices online. This would be a significant change from current regulation, which only requires that standard prices be made available “in some form.” As Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Alex Azar explained, “This payment proposal takes important steps toward a Medicare system that puts patients in charge of their care and allows them to receive the quality and price information needed to drive competition and increase value.
CMS is also looking for ways to address surprise billing by health care providers and seeking comments on how to provide patients with better information up front about out-of-pocket costs. It’s all part of HHS’s efforts to encourage “further transparency” from health care providers — efforts that should also help lower costs by increasing competition in an oddly secretive industry.  ~The Patriot Pos

There’s a good reason why he sounds like a crook; the best of reasons. Rep Evan Jenkins (R-WV), who, unlike Sessions really does support President Trump, expressed his concern over the never-ending witch hunt that Sessions is watching from the sidelines. He began his time by referencing a letter that Sessions sent on March 29th to Sen Grassley and Reps Goodlatte and Gowdy, regarding the appointment of a second special counsel to look into Justice Department crimes and cover ups. Jenkins points out that Sessions determined that a second special counsel wasn’t warranted and at the same time indicated when one would be, citing his choice of words of “in extraordinary circumstances.” He notes that his constituents “are angry, they see a double standard and they want justice.” Jenkins thinks we’re in those extraordinary circumstances now but asks Sessions if it will ever be possible for him to get to that point...

The heavily redacted final report of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence said the panel is continuing to probe efforts by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, author of the discredited anti-Trump dossier, and the research firm FusionGPS that hired Steele on behalf of the Democratic National Committee and liar-Clinton campaign during the election. The continuing anti-Trump opposition research operation was contained in a footnote on page 113 of the 243-page report. It identified the Penn Quarter Group as the research firm that hired Steele and FusionGPS... These stupid dems just wasted millions but didn't think of donating to charitable cause.   http://freebeacon.com/politics/democratic-donors-paid-50-million-new-anti-trump-research/?utm_source=Freedom+Mail&utm_campaign=6949d07477-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_04_27&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b5e6e0e9ea-6949d07477-45611665

VA Nominee Burned by Witch Hunt? Sure

Looks That Way

Ronny Jackson’s nomination to assume control of the Department of Veterans Affairs didn’t last long. The Washington Post reports that the veteran White House physician “withdrew from consideration Thursday amid mushrooming allegations of professional misconduct that raised questions about the White House vetting process.” These allegations, it’s important to note, were nonexistent during his 12-year tenure leading up to his selection to lead the VA.

Jackson hammered this point in a statement: “The allegations against me are completely false and fabricated. If they had any merit, I would not have been selected, promoted and entrusted to serve in such a sensitive and important role as physician to three presidents over the past 12 years.” Even CNN’s Jake Tapper — admittedly one of the network’s more levelheaded newsmen — remains skeptical. He wondered, “Big questions remain: Are the charges accurate? If so how did he survive the liar-nObama/Trump years until now? If not how and why did these allegations happen?” Not only survived but received praise as a “tremendous asset” from Barack liar-nObama.
That’s not to say that the allegations don’t warrant concerns. The list of improprieties “include that Jackson had wrecked a government vehicle after getting drunk at a Secret Service going-away party,” according to the Post. He’s also accused of “writing himself prescriptions and contributing to a hostile work environment with ‘a constant fear of reprisal.” Jackson reportedly also “drank while traveling with the president,” who at the time was liar-nObama.
However, the allegations are just that — allegations — and were sought out by Democrat Sen. Jon Tester (MT), who used a revealing phrase when reporting on his findings on CNN. Tester said, “Our vetting is not through yet. We still have more information to gather. But if this turns out to be solidly factual, then we’ve got a big, big problem with Admiral Jackson [emphasis added].”
As The Wall Street Journal’s James Freeman ponders, “Is it too much to ask senators to avoid going on television and accusing people of being drunken drug peddlers without knowing if the allegations are true?” When it’s a Republican president in control, the answer is an emphatic “Yes.”
More importantly, Freeman notes that if the allegations against Jackson have merit, “they suggest that federal background checks, White House personnel management and bipartisan presidential judgment are all so flawed that this country has far bigger problems than Ronny Jackson.” Maybe Democrats are angered that Jackson isn’t a political animal like past VA secretaries. Or maybe they’re furious that, as The Washington Post reminds us, Jackson gave “a fawning assessment of Trump’s health” in January. Had he declared Trump senile or deranged, Democrats would be unanimously in favor of his nomination.
Whatever the reason, it’s extremely difficult to see this uproar as anything but politically motivated. This is a peculiar and bewildering situation all around, so expect to hear more about it in the days ahead. In the meantime, our veterans could have benefited from Jackson’s experience. As columnist Marc Thiessen writes, “No other nominee to run VA has seen the plight of our wounded warriors in the war on terrorism up close like he has. Jackson understands what our vets went through on the battlefield, because he was on the battlefield with them. He understands their mental and physical wounds, because he has treated them.” Whoever he may be, Trump’s next nominee needs to recognize the difficulties, like Jackson did, of a reality that only our veterans are capable of understanding.

{ dailycaller.com } ~ The Justice Department on Thursday gave Congress five months worth of text messages exchanged between Peter Strzok and Lisa Page... two FBI officials involved in the investigations into liar-Hillary Clinton and President Donald Trump’s campaign. The messages, exchanged between Dec. 14, 2016, and May 17, 2017, were initially thought to be missing due to a technical glitch on FBI-issued cell phones. But the texts were recovered by the Justice Department’s office of the inspector general, which is investigating the FBI’s handling of both the liar-Clinton and Trump campaign investigations. Approximately 300 messages were given to Congress, a Justice Department official told The Daily Caller News Foundation...

{ lidblog.com } ~ One thing heard over and over by politicians of all persuasions is that Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller is an honest and capable prosecutor... Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) disagrees and proves it. The Texas Republican has put together a 48-page research document that “unmasks” the spin about Mueller and exposes him as a prosecutorial tyrant. “Robert Mueller has a long and sordid history of illicitly targeting innocent people that is a stain upon the legacy of American jurisprudence. He lacks the judgment and credibility to lead the prosecution of anyone. What I have accumulated here is absolutely shocking upon the realization that Mueller’s disreputable, twisted history speaks to the character of the” man placed in a position to attempt to legalize a coup against a lawfully-elected President...

{ americanthinker.com } ~ In its never-ending pursuit of revelatory records meant to expose corruption, fraud, waste – and evil generally... in the Deep State, Judicial Watch published an interesting set of records today received from the government in its glacial response to demands for liar-Hillary Clinton's emails. The records reflect another disturbing email exchange among liar-Hillary's top staffers regarding Jewish Americans, this time with the subject line "Jews." Judicial Watch published an interesting analysis of this most recent batch of records, rightly focusing again on liar-Hillary Clinton's dangerous abuse of national security information by trafficking it on her unsecure "home-brew" server. We also discuss yet more evidence of pay-for-play corruption revealed by the latest records, again illustrating the virtual melding of the State Department with the liar-Clinton Foundation "philanthropy."  Its beneficiaries were the liar-Clintons and their vast political machine, with only six percent of their donations actually going to charitable causes in 2014, and the bulk going to "overhead expenses," like travel for the liar-Clintons.  But one particular email exchange in this latest round caught my attention because it illustrates what I believe is an anti-Semitic current running through the top echelon of the liar-Clinton political machine, consistent with a growing global trend toward anti-Semitism that should alarm everyone in the West...  https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2018/04/the_clintons_and_the_jews.html

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The history of human rights, albeit fragmented, is a long and often honourable expression of religious and civic endeavour... The scriptures of most religions refer to the ways in which we should treat our fellow man, from the Bible in antiquity to the broadly liberal Baha'i scriptures written in Persian and Arabic in the late nineteenth century. Religious precepts have served to protect human beings from arbitrary mistreatment in Hinduism,  Buddhism, and other faiths. Modern human rights declarations and legislation developed in a secular context, above all as an expression of democratic values, and informed by Judaeo-Christian ethics. The earliest formulations of secular human rights legislation are to be found in the 1789 French Declaration on the Rights of Man and the Citizen and the 1791 US Constitution, the first 10 amendments of which form the Bill of Rights. It was not until after the Second World War, however, that an even wider formulation of human rights came into being...

Iran blames Israel for the strike and is threatening to respond. But this incident is merely a symptom of a much larger event unfolding in the region, which is Iran's pursuit of a grand, expansionist plan for the Middle East, and Israel's determination to disrupt this dangerous process. One report said it was an Iranian surface-to-air missile system, while others suggested it was an Iranian armed drone program...

by Cal Thomas
{ townhall.com } ~ There he goes again. Despite the lowest unemployment rate in 17 years, including declining rates for minorities, Sen. commie-Bernie Sanders (I-VT), affectionately called "crazy commie-Bernie" by some conservative talk show hosts, is again flirting with the idea that the federal government should guarantee every American a job, paying a minimum of $15 an hour and health care benefits.

The Washington Post reports the plan would "...fund hundreds of projects throughout the United States aimed at addressing priorities such as infrastructure, health care, the environment, education and other goals. ... every American would be entitled to a job under one of these projects or receive job training to be able to do so, according to an early draft of the proposal."

The 1972 Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. George McGovern (D-SD), ran on a similar platform and lost 49 states. Go, commie-Bernie, go!

Are we not already spending plenty on these "priorities"? Just on education, record spending hasn't helped improve the knowledge of students. They still lag behind students in other countries when it comes to science and math, and, apparently, even English, as the overuse of the words "like" and "you know" have dumbed down our common language.

What is it about socialism that remains so attractive to many liberals? In most communist countries, it is a form of mutually-shared poverty. At a minimum it starves incentive.

A thriving economy is the best guarantee of a job. The American economy is now thriving, expanding at an annual rate of 2.9 percent, which many economists said just a few years ago was impossible to expect. According to Tradingeconomics.com, the "unemployment rate is expected to be 4 percent by the end of this quarter" it is now 4.1 percent. Going forward, it says, "We estimate the unemployment rate in the United States to stand at 3.80 in 12 months."

The goal of commie-Sanders and others in the guaranteed-income crowd, according to Darrick Hamilton, an economist at the New School and Stony Brook University's Stephanie Kahn, who are quoted by The Washington Post, is to "eliminate working poverty and involuntary unemployment altogether."

Wait, hasn't that already been tried? The Great Society programs launched more than 50 years ago by President Lyndon Johnson had similar goals. They have so far cost a collective $22 trillion. While those programs include Medicare and Medicaid, which are long overdue for reform, the poverty rate in America is roughly the same as it was in the mid-1960s.

According to the Library of Economics and Liberty, "The United States produces more per capita than any other industrialized country, and in recent years governments at various levels have spent about $350 billion per year, or about 3.5 percent of gross domestic product, on programs serving low-income families. Despite this, measured poverty is more prevalent in the United States than in most of the rest of the industrialized world."

If government spending is the solution, wouldn't the problem of poverty and the dwindling number of unemployed be solved by now? How will more spending and the inevitable higher taxes and increased debt improve their lot?

commie-Sanders' proposal is as likely to win approval as McGovern's failed to do in 1972, but it taps into a growing feeling, particularly among many young Americans, for whom feelings, not results, are ultimately what liberalism relies on. Many liberals feel corporations are evil, that some people are paid "too much," "income inequality" is something that should be addressed by government and, because some people make more money than others, America is an unfair nation.

This worldview appears to be increasingly taught in public schools and at the higher level by tenured college professors. This worldview did not build America, and if it ever takes over, it will never sustain us. Consider where it has been tried.

Among the 44 findings in the report was a line stating that “Federal Bureau of Investigation agents did not detect any deception during Flynn's interview.” The Washington Examiner’s Byron York first reported earlier this year that fired FBI boss James Comey had briefed lawmakers amid allegations Flynn had lied to Vice President Pence about conversations with then-Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak and speculation he may have misled FBI agents who questioned him in January 2017. Comey reportedly told lawmakers at the time that agents who interviewed Flynn did not believe he lied in that Jan. 24 meeting, and that any inaccuracies in his account were unintentional...  http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/04/27/house-report-backs-claim-that-fbi-agents-did-not-think-flynn-lied-despite-guilty-plea.html

{ aim.org } ~ The mainstream media continued to press its priority — attacking President Trump for perceived crimes, despite lack of evidence... while largely ignoring a federal lawsuit by Dan Backer and others showing evidence that 2016 presidential candidate liar-Hillary Clinton, through the liar- Hillary Victory Fund, colluded with the Democratic National Committee in violation of federal campaign-finance law. Backer, board chairman of Accuracy In Media, filed the suit not on behalf of AIM but in his role as counsel to the Committee to Defend the President. So far, only conservative media like The Federalist and Townhall have reported on the lawsuit, and it’s unclear whether the mainstream media, which highly favored liar-Clinton in the 2016 race, will cover this bombshell story. liar-Hillary Victory Fund solicited six-figure donations from major donors, including “Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane and Calvin Klein, and routed them through state parties en route to the liar-Clinton campaign. Tension in Barcelona
by Tom McLaughlin
La%2BRambla%2B2.jpg
Opposite our hotel

{ tommclaughlin.blogspot.com } ~ Though I wasn’t looking for it, I couldn’t avoid politics during our three days in Barcelona. My wife leaves all the trip planning to me so I booked the little Hotel Bagues based its proximity to the Gothic Quarter and the sea. We could walk to places of interest along La Rambla, a popular, tree-lined pedestrian boulevard. It’s very popular and it appeared there were tourists from just about everywhere else in the world.
images-2.jpeg
There were mimes, tourist shops, and restaurants with sidewalk tables along La Rambla. Above the first floor restaurants and shops were residences with small balconies overlooking the streets and nearly half displayed political banners, flags, and posters draped over them calling for Catalan independence. Tourist literature called our section the “nerve center” of Barcelona — the city which is itself the nerve center of Catalonia.
La%2BRambla%2B6.jpg
We were sipping wine on our little balcony our first night there when we heard chanting in Spanish getting louder by the minute. Then demonstrators marched out of the street across from our balcony which connected La Rambla to the Gothic quarter. They carried Catalan flags and signs and chanted a phrase neither of us understood.
images-1.jpeg
Last October, Catalonia tried to hold a referendum declaring independence but Spanish authorities violently disrupted the vote. According to CNN: “Police fired rubber bullets at protesters and voters trying to take part in the referendum, and used batons to beat them back   using rubber bullets.” Nine hundred people were injured.
387af20d-6123-49d8-82d3-5dae1a78a753.jpg
Across from our balcony was another owned by a local woman with a Catalan flag and another banner I couldn’t read. Our bellman told me she is a leader in the independence movement. Last October counter demonstrators gathered on the street below and tried to get her to come out, but she wouldn’t. “They would have killed her,” said the bellman.
images-4.jpeg
As if that weren’t enough, the previous August, another kind of political violence flared up when Moroccan Muslim immigrants mowed people down along La Rambla with a rented van. Sixteen people were killed and more than a hundred wounded. Our bell man told me three people died under our balcony and a dozen more lay gravely wounded. The door man pulled out his phone to show me videos too gruesome to show on television. The night before, an imam blew himself up in another area as he tried to construct explosives with gas cylinders.
Drumming%2BBarcelona.jpg
Last Saturday in the Gothic Quarter very heavy drumming filled the air of a plaza where we were eating breakfast at a sidewalk cafe. Heavy base vibrated my sternum as it bounced off the stone buildings on all four sides of the plaza but I couldn’t pinpoint its source. We paid our bill and walk up the front steps of a gothic cathedral across the square where many people milled about. Looking over their heads, we could see the drummers surrounded by people holding banners and flags. When it stopped, one man with a banner told me they were rallying to keep Spain united.

Saturday night six motorcycle police gathered there and two vans of heavily armed soldiers with automatic weapons positioned themselves below our balcony at dusk and hotel employees said that wasn’t unusual for a Saturday night. Going to our cruise ship Sunday, there were more soldiers with automatic weapons deployed at the waterfront.

Naples

Two days later in Naples, Italy I saw an even heavier military presence soldiers with two very alert soldiers with automatic weapons were deployed every fifty yards along a pedestrian walkway in the center of the city. On Friday we’ll be in Nice, France where two years ago a Tunisian Muslim driving a cargo truck killed 84 people and wounded 458 others. Clearly tension is high in heavily-trafficked pedestrian zones of Mediterranean cities.

Truck Attack in Nice

A huge, 13th century castle dominates the Bay of Naples where our cruise ship tied up, built by the French when they dominated the region. It’s a reminder that political conflict is nothing new here as it’s been besieged many times. Muslim navies terrorized the entire Mediterranean for centuries. The last Muslim armies were expelled from Spain in 1492, the same year Columbus discovered America.

Castles and other material fortifications are useless, however, against the kind of terrorism plaguing the region now. The European left encourages Muslim immigration, while the rising European right wants to cut it off, especially in eastern Europe. The right claims Muslims don’t want to assimilate, don’t want to become Spaniards, Italians, Germans, or French, and have a long-term strategy to take over Europe by demography. Demographic studies indicate that native Europeans are not producing offspring in numbers sufficient to maintain population. Meanwhile, immigrants are having large families.

{ frontpagemag.com } ~ The Washington Free Beacon reported Monday that the Zionist Advocacy Center is alleging in a suit that former President Jimmy Carter’s nonprofit organization... the Carter Center, “has used taxpayer funding to provide material support to international terrorist groups, including Hamas.” Given Carter’s longstanding and abundantly established hatred for the Jewish state, this allegation is no great shock. Nonetheless, the specter of an American President’s foundation funding a jihad terrorist group demonstrates how far we have fallen. The Zionist Advocacy Center further alleges that the Carter Center “received more than $30 million in taxpayer grants while violating federal statutes barring it from using the cash to provide material support to terror groups.” Not only that: “The plaintiffs maintain the Carter Center has violated the law by hosting designated terrorists at is facilities, as well as by providing various forms of assistance to the Palestinian terror group Hamas and other known terror entities.” No one who has watched Carter over the years can really be surprised. Back in 2008, Carter claimed that Hamas was prepared to accept the right of Israel to “live as a neighbor next door in peace.” He had no grounds for saying so, and it wasn’t remotely true, but this claim helped him perpetuate the fiction that the Israelis, not the Palestinians, were responsible for the failure of all peace talks and the ongoing tensions between the two...

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ A federal judge has dismissed the civil case brought by Paul Manafort... in which he argued special counsel Robert Mueller exceeded the scope of his investigation. U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson, who is overseeing the case against the former Trump campaign chairman in Washington, D.C., dismissed the case in a 24-page court ruling filed Friday. “A civil case is not the appropriate vehicle for taking issue with that a prosecutor has done and where he might be headed in the future,” Jackson wrote. "It is a sound and well-established principle that a court should not exercise its equitable powers to interfere with or enjoin an ongoing criminal investigation when the defendant will have the opportunity to challenge any defect in the prosecution in the trial court or on direct appeal,” she explained. “Therefore, the Court finds that this civil complaint must be dismissed."...  https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/federal-judge-dismisses-paul-manaforts-civil-case-against-robert-mueller

{ cnsnews.com } ~ Two-thirds (65%) of white Democrats do not believe in a God or higher spiritual power that is “all-knowing... all-powerful, and all-loving,” Pew Research Center reported Wednesday. Pew released results of a new survey of more than 4,700 U.S. adults regarding their views on the existence and nature of “God, higher power or spiritual force” showing that 95% of Republicans and 95% of nonwhite Democrats believe in God/higher power. But, only 78% of white Democrats believe in the existence of God/higher power. And, while two-thirds of both Republicans (67%) and nonwhite Democrats (64%) say God is “all-knowing, all-powerful and all-loving,” only a third of white Democrats (35%) share this belief...

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ House Republicans on Friday killed a request from Democrats to investigate House Speaker Paul Ryan's decision to remove... Rev. Patrick Conroy, who has served as the House chaplain since 2011. Rep. Joe Crowley, D-N.Y., brought a privileged resolution to the House floor calling for the creation of a select committee to investigate Conroy's ouster. But Republicans moved to table that resolution, effectively killing it, and almost every Republican supported that motion in the 215-171 vote. Conroy's resignation is effective May 24. The Wisconsin Republican's office has refused to explain why Conroy was removed. But it has rejected the theory from some Democrats that Conroy was removed because of a prayer he offered in November that could be seen as critical of the GOP tax cut...   https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/congress/gop-kills-democratic-push-to-investigate-house-chaplain-ouster

{ aei.org } ~ When the government of South Korea announced last week that it would begin work on a formal peace treaty with North Korea... to be discussed at a summit meeting on April 27, its so-called Sunshine Policy of engagement gave way to P.T. Barnum-style, a-sucker-born-every-minute diplomacy. Fighting in the Korean War ended in 1953 with just an armistice, and South Korean officials are calling for a “permanent peace.” But it is not merely unrealistic to hope that Kim Jong-un, the leader of the North, will offer the South real and lasting peace; it is delusional. If the past is any guide, the North will offer the South unenforceable verbiage. And if the South accepts a phony peace ploy, it will expose itself to more manipulation by the government in Pyongyang — not only in its domestic politics, but potentially also in its alliance with the United States...  http://www.aei.org/publication/north-koreas-phony-peace-ploy/?mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTXpjeU1tVTRNRGN6Tm1ZeiIsInQiOiJKYkVROEthdkRGQzFDWVExTm0wZlFXblwvTDZOSkNlT0poOFwvVmFBMzV6MWJQV2prNFFSM3ZDU3Q3Nm04TUVMSjNhbFUwTm8wSDFxZWx2eG1SbitSbWRcL3BnWlwvQWpFdldaM0xGTHNoWXIxejluZXhadjQ2cDBJeFhXV1JqSTJIUm0ifQ%3D%3D

by Gary J. Schmitt
{ aei.org } ~ If the vast majority of foreign policy analysts and commentators agree on one thing, it is that "the unipolar moment" has passed. American dominance—be it political, economic, or military—is no longer so overwhelming that history can be said to have ended. To the contrary, the security challenges the US confronts are spread across the globe and are as complex as any the country has faced since its infancy.

While al Qaeda, ISIS, and North Korea present deadly serious problems, America's geopolitical situation is unique in that we are confronted by the rise of revisionist powers in each of the three regions traditionally seen as crucial to our own peace and prosperity and to the larger goal of global stability: Russia in Europe, China in East Asia, and Iran in the Middle East. If the US is to develop effective, sustainable policies that truly serve its national interests, we must first understand the roots and the character of the challenges these three countries pose.

The chapters that follow Frederick Kagan's "Russia: The Kremlin's Many Revisions," Dan Blumenthal's "China: The Imperial Legacy," and Reuel Marc Gerecht's "Iran: The Shi'ite Imperial Power" attempt to spell out the specific nature of each country's revisionist drive and how, broadly speaking, the US and its allies should respond. The volume concludes with Walter Russell Mead's "Not a Trap but a Minefield: The Thucydidean Challenge to American Foreign Policy," which argues that, when properly read, the great Athenian historian's analysis of war, regimes, and statecraft is far richer and more nuanced than what current international relations theorists can offer for coming to terms with China, Iran, and Russia and for understanding the potential and pitfalls of a democratic nation's response.

The essays make no effort to consolidate the revisionist drives of China, Iran, and Russia into one overarching model. Each is unique—a fact that makes America's possible responses no less difficult.

As Kagan notes at the start of his chapter, Russia's revisionist behavior is driven by a trio of factors: overturning what Moscow argues are flawed, unfavorable agreements with former Soviet states; revising what it means to be Russia and Russian; and upending the existing international order. Each would be difficult enough to address alone. Combined, they make doing so even more complicated—but also, Kagan writes, just as necessary: "The superficial validity of some of Russia's grievances must not blind us to this reality. The West must find a way to uphold the settlements of the early 1990s, defend the principles of international law and order, and help Russia settle on a new identity within those parameters."

In the case of China, Blumenthal argues that the People's Republic is intent on revising the balance of power in East Asia by returning China to its central place in the regional order, with its past "imperial" rule defining and guiding its efforts to become East Asia's hegemon. Uniquely, Blumenthal writes, "Beijing rules over the world's last remaining multiethnic empire," and the drive to reclaim "lost" territories and prestige and secure that empire both domestically and internationally explains much of Chinese statecraft. But in key respects, Blumenthal notes, "China is in imperial overstretch," and it should be America's strategy to "begin to take advantage of this."

As for Iran, Gerecht posits that, while the Islamic Republic has seen itself as revolutionary since 1979, the broader Islamic agenda has largely "lost its mojo." It has effectively been replaced by a "militant Shi'ite fraternity" designed to give the regime new legitimacy at home and, potentially, a hegemonic position within the Middle East, by playing the Shi'ite card in Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, and among the oppressed Shi'a in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. But, Gerecht argues, "Iran is a volcano of [internal] contradictions," and Washington would do well to "accentuate those contradictions, especially the century-old Iranian quest for representative government."

In the concluding essay, Walter Russell Mead explains why international relations realists are inclined to define a state's behavior narrowly. As a result, they do not provide an adequate road map for policymakers to use in developing strategies to confront that behavior. "Thucydides was no realist in the modern, American, and academic sense of that term." Today's realism "is a weak and denatured creature, compared to the complex vision of Thucydidean realism, and the costs to analytic coherence are serious."

Certainly, in the limited sense of physical security, none of the three states can honestly claim their own behavior is driven by fear of an American-led invasion. With the end of the Cold War, both Russia and China were more secure than ever and, indeed, remained secure with the significant decline in military spending by the United States and its allies. Even Iran, which from the revolution onward has defined its foreign policy as anti-American, has never been confronted with an American administration determined to overturn its rule. If Tehran faces a possible military strike by its adversaries, it is largely because of the Islamic Republic's own ambition to acquire nuclear weapons.

In Mead's account, in the world of Thucydides, peoples and leaders are moved by a complex mix of interests, fate, and passions, and "no concept could be less congenial" to the Father of History "than the idea that domestic politics and regime type are largely irrelevant to the study of international relations"—which holds true for both autocratic and liberal regimes. In short, it pays to know, in depth, what is driving a state and its leaders; to understand that those drivers cannot be divorced from a country's internal governance; and to realize that, even with such an understanding, unknown and uncontrollable factors will still intercede to shape and limit any strategy.

As important as it is to keep all this in mind, we should not be blind to the one thing that does tie the three revisionist powers together: ambition. None of the three states has been satisfied with an American-led international order, but their ambitions to challenge that order, at least regionally, were initially constrained by their relative lack of economic and military strength, compared to that of the United States and key allies. With the end of the Cold War, that dominance was unprecedented. America and its treaty-bound partners accounted for more than 70 percent of both world-wide military spending and total global gross domestic product (GDP).

Faced with such dominance, China's strategy was "hide our capabilities and bide our time." Similarly, Russia, humiliated by the loss of its super-power status, had to wait until the spike in oil and gas prices unleashed a flood of new revenue to begin to try to reverse the various "capitulations" Yeltsin and Gorbachev had made to Washington and the West out of Soviet, and then Russian, weakness. And while Iran has never concealed its willingness to challenge the United States, its recent assertiveness is undoubtedly tied to the disarray in American Middle East policy, brought about by its multiyear fumbling in Iraq, half-hearted commitment in Afghanistan, and indecision over Syria and the chaos resulting from the Arab Spring. With the combined decline of American and allied economic and military power in recent years, and a general reluctance to use that power assertively, all three states have seized the opportunity to push their revisionist agenda forward.

Policies designed to satiate each of the three countries have not worked. In the cases of Russia and China, American administrations of both political stripes have tried to reset relations and have invited them to join various world forums (such as the World Trade Organization and G20) and generally to recognize their place in the international system. The results have at best been underwhelming. Although some common interests have emerged that have allowed for some cooperation, broader diverging interests and agendas have undermined any real progress toward either Russia or China accepting the responsibilities of having a seat at the table. They have been willing to take advantage of the international order—especially economically—but unwilling to support that order.

China, Iran, and Russia have each been willing participants in the global trading system. But expectations that such participation might help generate internal reforms or at least moderate behavior internationally have gone unmet. If America faces the problem of its own allies free riding in military affairs, it faces an even greater problem of revisionist states free riding by using the open global economic order to generate revenues to fuel their strategic plans.

Until the sanction regime was tightened appreciably during the Bush and liar-nObama years, Iran not only benefitted from the open global economic order but also used the massive amount of traffic generated by that order to hide its clandestine efforts to acquire needed elements for its weapons program. President Barack liar-nObama hoped that Tehran—freed from sanctions and with its nuclear prospects supposedly postponed for a decade by the Join Comprehensive Plan of Action—might use the intervening period of lessened tensions to establish a modus vivendi with Saudi Arabia in the region and to reestablish normal trading ties with the rest of the world. Although it is too early to pass final judgment on liar-nObama's strategy, it appears that with sanctions removed, Iran's leadership has accelerated its plans for the region.

The question that needs to be asked is: Do the ambitions of the revisionist powers have recognizable limits? That is, are there concessions to be made, spheres of influence to be accepted, or strategies of appeasement or policies of retrenchment to be adopted that might result in a peaceful status quo? History suggests not. Every gain by a rising power results in a new set of uncertainties within the region and new security interests to be taken into account. As has been noted, Rome conquered the known world with one "defensive" war after another. Success typically opens the door to greater ambition, not less. Building on gains is what rising powers do.

Although the US might for some short time concede greater sway in a region to a revisionist power, the immediate neighbors are not likely to take this advance with equanimity. Either they will take their turn at appeasement, stoking the revisionist power's own views of what it can get away with, or those who can will build up their own military capabilities in response. With Russia and China having nuclear arsenals and Iran potentially on its way to joining them, it is not hard to imagine any number of countries countering with their own weapons programs—programs and capabilities over which the US will have little or no say. A proliferating nuclear arms race is not a recipe for stability.

When a regime's character is factored in, tensions appear virtually inevitable. China, Iran, and Russia all assert a civilizational challenge to the Western liberal democratic order. It is difficult to know how deeply the three countries' general populations hold their leaders' views, but for the leadership in each, ideology is certainly an important source of legitimacy for their non-liberal rule at home.

Coexistence with prosperous, relatively powerful democratic neighbors, whose own relations are largely based on the trust and norms that come from similarity of rule, is a circle hard to square. Even Iran, whose neighborhood is hardly filled with liberal democratic states, must continually strive to keep Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria in a state of chaos, lest a more liberal, majoritarian Shi'ite state emerge and threaten the Islamic Republic's claims to be the only legitimate form of rule for its sect. And the notion that a nation carries a special civilizational role becomes even more important for the leadership to sustain when their ability to meet domestic needs and expectations appears to come up short—a problem Russia, Iran, and, increasingly, China have had.

Of course, the question is: Why should we care? None of the three states directly threatens the United States. Indeed, arguably, if relations are tense, it is largely because Washington has pushed back against revisionist efforts—often about matters far from our shores and at times over issues for which we have no formal opinion for example, about who has sovereignty over this or that islet in the South China Sea, no treaty obligation as with Georgia or Ukraine, or no historical tie as in Syria.

The answer is that, since World War II's end, Washington has understood that, strategically, Europe, East Asia, and the Middle East are the three most important theaters to the United States and that general peace and global prosperity depend on deterring non-liberal, would-be hegemons from disrupting those regions' stability. If history is any guide, the lesson learned has been that ignoring trouble on those fronts only postpones the difficulty and raises the cost of eventually dealing with it.

Arguably, the Middle East is less important today for the United States, given changing oil and gas markets in the United States. But even so, instability in the region can affect the global energy picture and hence the world economy, provide openings for terrorism directed at the West, threaten Israel, generate a massive refugee crisis, and produce an arms race that may end with more states attempting to acquire nuclear weapons. American administrations have at various times and for various reasons tried to disentangle the US from the Middle East, but absent US engagement, the region inevitably becomes more anarchic, not less, and generates problems from which Washington has not been able to walk away.

That said, the US faces two major problems in addressing the three revisionist powers in these three key theaters.

The first and most obvious problem is that the revisionist powers are there. From a geostrategic perspective, the historical advantage of being separated from Eurasia by two large oceans becomes an obstacle to the US when it comes to creating credible deterrents.

But rather than worry about sustaining a costly forward presence, strategists have offered "offshore balancing" as an alternative. Under this strategy the US will only intervene when one or more powers threaten to gain a hegemonic advantage in a region.

But deciding when to intervene is never easy, since it almost always comes with the prospect of conflict. As a result, democracies in particular are apt to delay intervention until the circumstances are even less advantageous. Moreover, effective and decisive intervention from offshore still requires a military force second to none.

The second major issue is that the costs of deterring another power are clear and felt upfront, but the benefits are unclear and delayed. Arguments in favor of deterrence speculate about what might happen if the US steps back from its forward presence, but until something untoward happens, it remains conjecture. When the public has fresh memories of failing to stop an ambitious power and the country has had to pay for that failure with a costly conflict, it is easier to convince that same public and its representatives that forward-leaning deterrence is the right course. But successful deterrence can also breed complacency—the feeling that the peace and prosperity brought about by that strategy is the natural order of things, not a result of policy decisions made and sustained.

Moreover, it can be difficult to maintain a credible deterrent when the issue at stake—be it territory or some aspect of international law—is important to regional stability but is, at first glance, of only secondary interest to the United States. Such efforts can look even more speculative and costly to the public when, as has been the case in recent years, they have been poorly conducted or inadequately thought through.

Undoubtedly, the Great Recession of 2008 and the costly, indecisive wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya have soured large segments of the American public and their representatives on adopting a forward-leaning American strategic posture. With economic problems at home following the recession of 2008, the benefits of such efforts have appeared less than satisfactory.

But this invites two questions: What would the regional and geopolitical situations have been if Washington had not acted? And, as noted already, were the indecisive results a product of strategic overreach, flawed implementation, or a lack of sustained commitment to the task at hand—or some combination of these? The point is not that a forward-leaning posture can prevent costly policy mistakes but rather that one should not simply assume that the larger strategy is to blame for those mistakes.

Nor should we assume that we cannot afford a forward-leaning strategy for Eurasia. Although its primacy is more contested today than in the after-math of the Cold War, the United States remains the world's only superpower. And while the West—the US and its democratic allies—has seen its overwhelming share of global economic and military power shrink in recent years, it still accounts for some 60 percent of the world's wealth and military spending. Moreover, although the contesting, revisionist powers have the advantage of operating in their own neighborhoods—meaning the US has the more complex and diverse task of responding to challenges far from home—the US has significant, close allies in each region that have begun to spend more on their militaries in the face of the threats posed by China, Iran, and Russia.

Nor have the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan bankrupted the US. At the height of the campaigns, total defense spending personnel, procurement, operations, etc. as a percentage of GDP never rose above 5 percent, well below Cold War levels. Today, the base defense budget hovers at 3 percent or less.

In short, if the US and its allies wanted to do more to contest these revisionist powers in the realm of hard military power, they could. It is really a matter of policy choices and priorities.

To take the revisionist challenge seriously requires the American body politic to relearn the value of American leadership in defending the liberal order it largely created after World War II. It requires political leaders to make the case for the benefits that leadership and primacy bring to America. Like an understanding and appreciation of American government itself, this is something that every generation of Americans must re-learn. Left untaught, it—and the historical memory of its import—will fade.

If there is any "good news" here, it is that recent administrations' decisions to pull back from America's traditional leadership role, to retrench, and to lead from behind have not resulted in a less problematic world. To the contrary, China, Iran, and Russia have all read Washington's reluctance as an opportunity to advance their own plans and have done so in a manner that the American public has noticed. Even absent a major confrontation, American politicians may sense greater instability and greater prospects for conflict. This may lead them to argue the case for reversing course and, with the help of our allies, obtaining the benefits of deterring and containing the revisionist powers. To paraphrase Tocqueville, when it comes to American statecraft, Americans need to relearn the merits of acting on "self-interest rightly understood"—that is, looking not simply to one's immediate interest, but understanding that today's sacrifice may produce a longer-term and more substantial advantage.

But the task at hand is even more complex. China, Iran, and Russia are political models that, at their core, challenge the idea of liberal democracy. Each in its own way sees itself in civilizational opposition to the liberal West, of which the United States is the most prominent exemplar. So the competition cannot be reduced to material and arms. The spirited rejection of liberalism—a seemingly inevitable and repeating byproduct of liberalism's success—needs to be met with a renewed attachment to liberal democracy and the liberal order it fosters.

What sustained America in its fights against Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union was not simply the threat they posed but the view that there was something exceptional about our way of life that deserved to be preserved and spread, where possible. Ronald Reagan's call to "tear down this wall" was not so much a specific policy proposal as the spirited advancement of an agenda around which the US and its democratic allies could rally.

It may be, as President liar-nObama once suggested, that all nations consider themselves exceptional. But by definition they cannot all be exceptional. And more to the point, such relativism undermines the sense of right that must ultimately animate any democratic statecraft that aims to be sustainable over time. In fine, resisting the rise of the revisionist powers requires knowledge of the character of those states, an understanding of the benefits in doing so, a sense of how best to go about the task, and, finally, as Abraham Lincoln might say, a singular dedication to the proposition that liberal democracy is the most just form of government and that its preservation and advancement is good both for us and for the world.

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ Republicans on the House Intelligence Committee released their final report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election on Friday... and have concluded that there was no “collusion, coordination, or conspiracy between the Trump campaign and the Russian government.” The release wraps up a yearlong probe that was often marred by bipartisan fighting. “The Committee found no evidence that President Trump's pre-campaign business dealings formed the basis for collusion during the campaign,” the report said. “There is no evidence that Trump associates were involved in the theft or publication of liar-Clinton campaign-related emails, although Trump associates had numerous ill-advised contacts with WikiLeaks."...

Gowdy Identifies at Least 7 Lies Comey Told in Latest Interview

{ rickwells.us } ~ Tucker Carlson notes that Bret Baier had just completed an interview with James Comey... and brought the unpredictable, enigmatic Trey Gowdy for his perspective on what transpired. Gowdy seems to have successfully navigated from the Mueller “witch hunts are wonderful” camp to the pro-American Trump camp, at least for as long as it takes him to deliver his rebuke of Comey. Carlson starts off by asking him what he learned from the interview. Gowdy replied, “A couple of things, number one that Page and Strzok, he would have fired immediately, which means the two agents that were leading both the liar-Clinton and Trump investigations should have been canned.” He continues, “Director Comey’s recollection is flawed. If he does not remember telling Congress that his agents told him that they didn’t think Flynn was lying, then he needs to get his lawyers to go back and look at the transcript. We did not mishear, maybe he misspoke, but that’s in the transcript.”...  https://rickwells.us/gowdy-7-lies-comey-interview/.

{ freebeacon.com } ~ The U.S. government continues to inappropriately keep classified a report on Palestinian refugees... that congressional officials view as a potential game changer in how America approaches its regional policies and allocates billions in taxpayer funds, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the report. Congressional officials familiar with the classified report, the existence of which was first disclosed by the Washington Free Beacon, say the State Department continues to keep it secret in order to not disrupt billions of dollars in allocations to United Nations Relief Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the organization responsible for providing aid to what they claim is some 5.2 million Palestinian refugees. Those familiar with the report say the U.S. quietly determined under the liar-nObama administration that the actual number of Palestinian refugees is far smaller, closer to around 30,000. This disclosure could fundamentally change the way billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars are allocated to UNRWA and the Palestinian government and impact America's longstanding policies regarding the Israeli-Palestinian peace process...  http://freebeacon.com/issues/u-s-government-hiding-report-number-palestinian-refugees/?utm_source=Freedom+Mail&utm_campaign=44580f1d6e-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_04_26&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b5e6e0e9ea-44580f1d6e-45611665

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Last night another batch of FBI Agent Peter Strzok and DOJ Lawyer Lisa Page text messages were released by the DOJ. (pdf here)This series of messages are clearly from captures on the Peter Strzok side of their communications. { freebeacon.com } ~ An Environmental Protection Agency whistleblower whose complaints about travel and spending excesses by Administrator Scott Pruitt... led Democrats to write a letter to President Trump citing "grave concerns" about Pruitt’s leadership appears to have inflated his service and accepted large raises during his tenure at the EPA. Kevin Chmielewski, the whistleblower who recently spoke to House and Senate members about his concerns with Pruitt, apparently inflated his Coast Guard service on the resume he used to secure positions in the Trump administration by roughly three years, according to a comparison of his resume with a Coast Guard spokeswoman's description of his service. Additionally, Chmielewski benefitted from the same EPA hiring authority that he said EPA officials had used to dole out raises to two top Pruitt aides, according to knowledgeable sources and EPA documents...

A McCabe Indictment — or a Banana Republic?

YON6mphfeVTKIJyxr6RkKmR_8L7yixdIwBNzwbiEkPORZgNYU_hfNpzblOZ0YrrIxZzH463KR8LOeQEyyil1fnD2yC-RuyrpKHypqYlo7LHxlNoP9FHaKVYNTd7XNSnyvw2NPv5tWI6bQiP891fF8Hk4etsMCLJwBMuU1V237N4=s0-d-e1-ft#%3Ca%20rel%3Dnofollow%20href=?width=450by Arnold Ahlert:  “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” “A republic, if you can keep it.”

Two hundred and thirty-one years after Ben Franklin’s famous exchange, America has reached a fork in the road. Down one path, we continue our grand experiment in self-governance and maintain our reputation as the last best hope of mankind. Down the other, we devolve into a banana republic, ruled by a cabal of unelected deep-state bureaucrats accountable to no one but themselves. The best indicator of which way we’ll go? Ousted FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. Either he gets indicted, or we live in a nation where the well-connected remain wholly insulated from genuine accountability.
The allegations couldn’t be clearer. As the Department of Justice’s Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) report indicates, McCabe “lacked candor” (he lied) on four occasions when speaking with internal investigators. Thus, the OIG has sent a criminal referral to the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington, DC.
National Review’s Andrew McCarthy explains the genesis of McCabe’s lying, noting the former agent was “stung by a Wall Street Journal story that questioned his fitness to lead an investigation of liar-Hillary Clinton.
While running for a state senate seat, McCabe’s wife received the unusually large sum of $675,000 in campaign donations from a PAC controlled by longtime liar-Clinton fundraiser and political confidant Terry McAuliffe, who was governor of Virginia at the time. The Journal’s reporter, Devlin Barrett, soon had follow-up questions for a subsequent article, but McCarthy notes his call came in “just as the Bureau was dealing with the controversy over Director James Comey’s reopening of the liar- Clinton emails investigation.
That “controversy” was the discovery that liar-Clinton emails, some of which were classified, had been found on the computer of convicted “sexter” Anthony Weiner, husband of longtime liar-Clinton aide Huma Abedin.
When the meeting occurred, McCabe was out of town, so he phoned in. Comey ordered him off the call. “The director and his chief counsel were concerned about the perception of pro/liar- Clinton bias,” McCarthy reveals.
Subsequently, a “humiliated” McCabe got in touch with his special counsel, Lisa Page — the same Lisa Page who exchanged thousands of anti-Trump emails with paramour and fellow FBI agent Peter Strzok — and told her to leak a rebuttal to Barrett’s story. It was about McCabe’s alleged efforts to defend the FBI’s pursuit of the liar-Clinton Foundation the liar-nObama administration wanted to end. And in the ultimate testimony to McCabe’s “character,” the IG report reveals that after the Journal published the story with the leaked information, he “called up the heads of the FBI’s New York and Washington field offices to ream them out over the leak that McCabe himself had orchestrated!” as McCarthy puts it.
In response to questions about these machinations, the report states that McCabe “lacked candor, including under oath, on multiple occasions in connection with describing his role in connection with a disclosure to the Journal, and that this conduct violated FBI Offense Codes 2.5 and 2.6.”
Code 2.5 refers to a Lack of Candor — No Oath. Code 2.6 refers to a Lack of Candor — Under Oath. Lying to federal investigators is a crime.
The findings of the IG’s report were also sent to the FBI’s Office of Professional Responsibility, which recommended  McCabe’s  firing. And while Attorney General Jeff Sessions  obliged, there is often a sense among government insiders that termination, and the inevitable damage it does to one’s reputation, is sufficient “punishment” and that following up with a criminal indictment is “excessive.
McCabe certainly thinks so. He has announced plans to sue the Trump administration for defamation and wrongful termination.
McCabe’s attorney, Michael Bromwich, stated, “We have already met with staff members from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. We are confident that, unless there is inappropriate pressure from high levels of the administration, the U.S. Attorney’s Office will conclude that it should decline to prosecute.
Inappropriate pressure? Such a characterization should offend every law-abiding American, and not just because of McCabe’s alleged malfeasance. Just as important — if not more so — is the OIG report’s stunning assertion that McCabe insisted he received an Aug. 12, 2016, telephone call from an unnamed Principal Assistant Deputy Attorney General (PADAG) regarding the FBI’s handling of the liar-Clinton Foundation investigation. “McCabe said that PADAG expressed concerns about FBI agents taking overt steps in the CF Investigation during the presidential campaign,” the report states. “According to McCabe, he pushed back, asking ‘are you telling me that I need to shut down a validly predicated investigation?’ McCabe told us that the conversation was ‘very dramatic’ and he never had a similar confrontation like the PADAG call with a high level Department official in his entire FBI career.
According to FBI and DOJ sources in contact with The Washington Times, “PADAG” refers to Matthew Axelrod, who “quit the Justice Department on Jan. 30, 2017, the same day President Trump fired his boss, Deputy Attorney General Sally Q. Yates, for refusing to defend his travel ban executive order,” the paper reveals.
As former Justice Department official Hans von Spakovsky explains, the chances Axelrod acted on his own are virtually nil. “There is no way I would have ever called the FBI on my own unless I raised concerns with my boss or my boss told me to do so,” he stated.
In short, McCabe, by accident or design, has revealed the effort to stonewall the liar-Clinton investigation — and in turn, influence the 2016 election — goes further up the bureaucratic food chain. How much further?
Without an indictment and/or a grand jury investigation, we may never know.
“Washington continues to operate on a type of ‘Animal Farm’ culture where everyone is equal but some are more equal than others,” asserts George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley. “There remains a sharp disconnect in how high-ranking officials are treated as opposed to others in our system.
And not just McCabe. “Comey was tasked with finding leaks and then became a leaker himself,” Turley adds.
Donald Trump was elected president for a host of reasons. One of them was the electorate’s increasing realization that a double standard of justice has become the norm, not the exception, especially in Washington, DC. Moreover, that contemptible status quo has been nurtured by the likes of McCabe, Comey and very likely several other liar-nObama administration mandarins, who not only believe they are immune from the consequences of their actions but are justified in engendering what is likely to be the worst scandal in our nation’s history — in service to “A Higher Loyalty,” as the title of James Comey’s self-aggrandizing tome puts it.
A self-serving, self-perpetuating Ruling Class agenda borne of sheer hubris is more like it.
“McCabe’s testimony is the best way to learn why the FBI and Department of Justice seemingly mishandled everything related to liar-Hillary Clinton and how the intelligence agencies routinely funneled classified material on Donald Trump to friendly news agencies,” asserts columnist Charles Lipson.
Only if McCabe is indicted. If not? America as a nation beholden to the Rule of Law will cease to exist.  ~The Patriot Pos
