What The?!

Bear with me as I try to write this article. My hands are shaking and it’s making it hard to type or perhaps even think straight. I just finished a conference with a team of pro-Trump political strategists to get help with my current project for the Trump 2020 campaign. My head hurts, I’m pi$$ed off, and I have to find a way to report what just happened.

You’ll note from the headline, one of the attendees of this conference made a statement so inflammatory, no one could believe it had been said. The full quote:

“The way things are playing out, the chance of Trump being in office to run in 2020 are less than 20%. After all the fire and brimstone to get him in office, his supporters just laid down. They love to hear they’re winning and they love to talk about Trump 2020, but they aren’t doing the work to get there. It boils down to [Trump supporters] are too damn lazy to keep winning.”

It was like that sound effect of a needle scratching off the side of an old vinyl record. Words of shock and disagreement followed. Remember, this is a group of PRO-Trump people talking about how to win in 2020 and the analyst who said it is one of the most devoted Trump supporters I’ve ever personally met. I’ll get back to what happened next after I explain…

How This Came Up

To put the statement in context, my current Trump 2020 project is to get volunteers for the America First Coalition’s drive to identify and support pro-Trump candidates in the 2018 Congressional Elections (aka “midterm elections”). My effort is concentrated on the primary elections, something most people usually skip. The primaries are the only chance the voting public has to make a change in their own political party before they would have to vote for the opposing party to remove someone from office.

In this election, it not only matters, it is critical to the Trump Presidency. In some districts, the Republican up for reelection is as likely to vote to impeach my President as the Democrat running against them in the general election. That means if the RINO can’t be removed from the ballot in the primaries, it will be a vote for one Trump-hater or another. Stopping this is an emergency.

What Happened Next

Having just been “schooled” on exactly why my efforts are completely wasted and how my President is being abandoned by his supporters, I took a deep breath and tried to calm everyone down to get to the bottom of this insane statement.

The analyst explained himself:

Look, you all know I don’t just support Mr. Trump, I really love him. I’d jump in front of a bullet for him. And as much as I love Mr. Trump, I love his supporters too. They’re more than just my fellow Americans, they’re like my extended family. So before you flame me, let’s just start there, OK? Just try understanding what I’m trying to say from there.

(Someone tried to speak, the analyst spoke over them.)

I’m not done! [unintelligible response] Just let me say this. Everybody stepped up and had a lot of faith… took a lot of risks… even lost friends and family relationships… real sacrifices is what they did… what they did to get Donald Trump into that office… to make Trump President. I think his supporters knew what all of us here knew… It was either Make America Great Again or watch America die forever.

(Someone tried to speak again.)

Damn it! Let me finish! [brief silence] So I guess it was a harsh statement because I feel frustrated and a little scared and mostly just want to figure out where to go from here… But I don’t think we can talk for a day or a whole damn year about this and make any progress if we’re too busy being nice and not talking about the real thing going wrong. “Lazy” is probably taking it too far, and I’m sorry I said that. But we see what we see. They’re acting like they can just sit back and let Trump do all the winning. It’s like they don’t get they have to help him win.

Dead Silence Followed

I think we all had the same chilling realization. Whether “lazy” was at the root of it or not, action was indeed not being taken outside of general celebration for the wins and talking smack on social networks to easy targets. And even worse, none of us had a clear plan to try to get people to understand this isn’t the time to sit back. If we are going to keep winning, it’s time to double down, double up, and bring it even harder than we did in 2016.

Now that the air was completely out of our tires, we continued the discussion. Here are some more quotes by other people during the discussion that followed:

  • Maybe Trump was right when he said, “You’ll get tired of winning.” Maybe this is what he meant? Are they just too tired to go on?
  • I see it all day on the news groups. They’ll read scandal candy like how Obama beat Trump in a pie eating contest, but real issues get skipped right past. It’s sad.
  • It’s like the Deep State has planned this out to pacify us at just the right time. Like, what they think of us as “the ignorant stupid people who vote for Trump”. It’s like they’re counting on Trump’s supporters to avoid thinking about the problems and the work… I’ve even seen some Left Wing Media commentary that pretends to agree [emphasis hers] with Trump. Are they just trying to give us hollow victories to rest on? And with all the Russia, Russia, Russia, are they trying to do the carrot and stick routine on us to control what we think about? To make us not think about the work to do, just the little carrots? Is that what’s working here?

What Do We Do With This?

We spoke until we all realized, we needed to regather our thoughts. We had gone into this meeting with the wrong objective. There’s a fight before the fight: We have to get people to see the work to be done before we can even think about getting anyone to sign up for it.

For my part in rethinking this, I want help, your help. Please, tell me about your observations and what you think can be done to get people to understand the real War for America is still on, and our next battle is coming up fast. How do we get everyone back to the battlefield? Your comments will be taken to the next meeting with the strategists as first-hand accounts and every comment will be discussed.

Thank you for reading and thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.
