Muslim neighborhood Molenbeek is a breeding ground for Muslim terror. Molenbeek has been tied to numerous terror attacks the bombings in Brussels and the Paris attack. The Paris attackers hid out in Molenbeek protected by the residents there.

POLICE shot at a car during a high-speed chase through a Brussels suburb after the driver claimed to have explosives inside.

The driver claimed to have explosives inside the car, reports claim Several police officers shot at the wheels of the car, reported to be a Citroen Picasso registered in Germany, before the driver was arrested.Police spokesman Johan Berckmans told local media: “We pulled out the driver, who directly stated that there were explosives on board.”

The security alert took place in the suburb of Molenbeek this afternoon.

The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office released a statement confirming the suspect’s arrest at 6pm local time (5pm BST).Spokeswoman Ine Van Wymersch said: “The man was driving suspiciously and failed to stop at a traffic light.

“When the police arrested him, he claimed to have explosives so not to take any risk, the army has been called in to check.”

A security perimeter was set up between Rue de Dilbeek and the Gare de l’Ouest, according to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.Staff and customers at a nearby DIY shop, Brico, were not allowed to leave until police secured the scene, while several bus routes were diverted.

No injuries were reported.

It is unknown whether the incident was terror-related, but Brussels is on high alert following last year’s ISIS attacks in the city.The horrific attacks, which were co-ordinated by a cell based in Molenbeek, left 32 people dead and more than 300 others injured.

Earlier this summer, Oussama Zariouh, a suspected ISIS sympathiser, tried to launch a suicide bombing at Brussels Central Station.

But the 36-year-old Moroccan national was shot dead by police after his bomb failed to properly detonate on June 21.
