Alright, I know that the Electoral College remains a mystery to most people, but after a quick Google of the topic, anyone should be able to have enough information to realize why the founding fathers put such a system into place.
Evidently CBS Sunday Morning programmers/editors/writers have had their fingers broken or don't have access to a computer....
CBS Sunday Morning (10/21) just finished a piece on the Electoral College that was created to undermine and vilify this part of voting process. Using young school children (they're so cute, innocent and honest that you have to have sympathy with them - typical emotional blackmail tactics), they set out to show how UNFAIR the Electoral College is to the voters (after all, "your vote doesn't count") and how antiquated the process is ("no other country in the world uses a construct like the Electoral College").
What they don't explain is that the Founding Fathers realized the destructiveness of anarchy brought about by the popular vote, how 'popularity' and 'emotionality' could swing this country onto the wrong course; sort of like being hoodwinked by a slick talking community organizer with silky words but no action plan.....oops been there, done that.
The rest of the piece went on to talk about the organizations who have put into plan the nullification/revocation of the Electoral College, even having 'constitutional scholars' backing such plans....oops been there, done that too.
This insidious plan to nullify the Electoral College must be exposed and stopped before it negates that safeguards put into place by our founding fathers.
States who participate in the plan to nullify the Electoral College include Massachusetts. The nullification phenomenon is all the more important because of the deafening silence from Washington. It should come as no surprise that there are no fiery, angry complaints from Washington regarding this challenge to the Constitution by Massachusetts legislators. Five other states already have passed similar measures. The current administration is very choosy in how it asserts its authority.
The Constitution can be altered or amended only through a constitutional convention or a two-thirds vote in both Houses of Congress (Article 5). State legislatures are not empowered to alter or amend the Constitution.
The Founders were very specific about their preference for representative versus direct democracy. They thought, with a few exceptions, that direct democracy would be more likely to lead to a tyranny of the people very much like what was seen in the murderous and cruel actions of mobs in the latter stages of the French Revolution.
John Adams and Thomas Jefferson argued these points extensively, especially during their famous correspondence. Adams took the representation side and Jefferson the populist.
Adams was motivated by a lack of trust in the ability of “the people” (as a bloc) to make the wisest decisions. He argued that better-qualified people (educated and with upstanding character) should be selected by the general electorate so they could then make the best decisions in their representative capacity. In this way, the mob mentality of large populations, like that of the French Revolution, could best be negated.
We must defend our Constitutionality.
We must ensure that the safeguards put into place over 200 years ago remain.
We MUST make this an issue along with our political party affiliations, or we will be ruled by the emotional, pandered to masses whose motivation comes from what they can get from those who still pay taxes.

I am neither Republican nor Democrat, yet I am representred in Congress and the Senate by either of the Two Party's which I equally deplore. Where is the fairness in that scenario, which I might add is the plight of most potential VOTERS in the country? It is unconstitutional in it basic sense but certainly not anything the Republicans or Democrats will seek to remedy, since they would both lose greatly in the long run. This process has put the American "Body Politic" in the most reprehensible situation regarding "Gridlock" we have ever seen since our conception as a Nation. We will continue to drive ourselves into a political perdition until we finally realize the current "Two Party System" must be radically changed, and then DO SO !!!!
The DEMONRATS will do ANYTHING , by hook or crook to destroy the safeguards in the United States Constitution , up to and including the villification of GOD . THEY WILL NEVER BE SATISFIED UNTIL THEY HAVE ABSOLUTE CONTROL OVER EVERY INDIVIDUAL .
Brenda - if unhappy with our State then we can move to on that is more to our liking. That is what FREEDOM is all about.
Heres my problem with the electorate, some states have so many more than others. Because of this there are many who are not represented and feel why should they bother to vote anyway. Why should Ohio be the only state to hold the ability to pick the next president.Or why should VA, NC, FL, etc be the only states that count in the fins analysis? This is certainly not right and in my opinion at least make sure each state has some say in the final analysis. As my son said to me yesterday as I tried to convince him to vote for Romney/Ryan, it didn't matter here in MD anyway so why did I care who got is vote?
Some of you are confused about Democracy and direct election = would lead to war as only the super big cities and States would elect the President and the smaller States would be reduced to SLAVES TO THE MAJORITY - where would the big populations get food and building supplies? No we are a REPRESENTATIVE REPUBLIC LIMITED BY A CONSTITUTION.
Democracy... while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide.
John Adams
The best argument against democracy is a five-minute conversation with the average voter.
Winston Churchill
Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.
Alexis de Tocqueville
Democracy is the road to socialism.
Karl Marx
Notice that all sides from ancient to modern reject Democracy and majority rule as it causes all minorities to be subject to tyranny of the many.
States with outrageous populations and have even more outrageously and unfair representation in the Electoral College should be divided into separate but equal representatation factors. It might be difficult tro arrange, but much fairer in the long run.
Just some of the same from the Progressives! Woodrow Wilson is alive and well. Did you ever think why we have 2 houses in Congress? Both houses are now elected by "majority" vote, e.g., the Senate no longer represents the States thanks to Wilson and a constitution amendment. Do you think Obamacare would have passed if Congress had remained as originally designed by our Founding Fathers? Changing the electoral college process to a "popular" vote is just a continuation of the Progressives desire to turn the country into a pure democracy so they can control the government! If anything needs to change, its restoring the Senate back to the original intent!!!
do you actually trust the "government/electoral college to truthfully represent you? Give me a break. I do not need a damned government official to vote/speak for me. I can vote/speak for myself.
mob rule by the people, or mob rule by the government/fed? "OF the people, by the people, for the people" means that the people vote/speak for themselves; WITH NO REPRESENTATIVE TO VOTE FOR THEM. COUNT THE PEOPLES VOTES, YOU LAZY BUM. DO THE MATH!

In the 11 swing states, Mitt Romney earns 50% of the vote to Obama’s 46%. One percent (1%) likes another candidate in the race, and three percent (3%) are undecided.
This survey is conducted on a rolling seven-day basis, so today’s update is the first in which the majority of the responses follow Tuesday night’s presidential debate. This is the second day in a row that Romney has been at the 50% mark in the combined swing states and marks the widest gap between the candidates since Obama posted a five-point lead on October 5.
In 2008, Obama won these states by a combined margin of 53% to 46%, virtually identical to his national margin.
Nationally, the candidates remain nearly tied in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll.

For those that feel the electoral college should be removed, you have to give thought to how it would be if you were run by the masses in the major cities. Highly populated areas of people on the welfare roll. A politician's dream...a captive voting block.
Heck, there would be a mass migration to the government favored cities/states and eventually the system would collapse.
There's good reason for the electoral college. Keep it!
Along the same line, the 17th amendment should be repealed. The state legislatures should decide who the Senators are, which makes them more accountable to the state. As it is now, it makes me feel like the Senators are more accountable to the Fed and not the states.
