In the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, Which Side
Is Really Committing Ethnic Cleansing?
{freebeacon.com} ~ Anti-Israel activists and commentators often say the Jewish state commits ethnic cleansing, if not outright genocide, against the Palestinians... Even senior officials at the United Nations—but I repeat myself—have accused Israel of such crimes, as have prominent figures in Western media and academia. These voices are actually correct in a general sense: one side of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict does use policies to achieve ethnic cleansing. It's just not Israel. On Monday, a Palestinian court in Ramallah sentenced a Palestinian-American to life in prison with hard labor, after just a one-week trial. What was the heinous crime? Issam Akel, a resident of east Jerusalem and a U.S. citizen, was found guilty of selling property to Jews, specifically a house in the Old City of Jerusalem to a Jewish Israeli organization. The Palestinian Grand Criminal Court said he attempted "to cut off a part of the Palestinian land and add them to a foreign country." Now the Palestinian Authority (PA) is planning to extradite Akel to the U.S. amid heavy pressure from Washington to release him, according to reports. But many details of the possible extradition remain unclear. Akel's sentencing came a week after the PA announced that it had foiled attempts to sell lands and houses in the West Bank and east Jerusalem to Jewish buyers. The PA's security forces said they arrested 44 Palestinians involved in the transactions, adding that at least three of the suspects had already been sentenced to 15 years of hard labor. Under Palestinian law, selling or attempting to sell land to Jews is a crime, punishable by hard labor, imprisonment, and even execution. In recent weeks, Palestinian religious authorities have repeatedly warned that anyone who engages in such deals will be accused of "high treason."....
Former Democratic Senator Could
Replace Mattis As Defense Secretary, Says Report
by Virginia Kruta
{dailycaller.com} ~ Former Democratic Virginia Sen. Jim Webb is reportedly being considered as a possible replacement for retiring Defense Secretary James Mattis... According to a report from The New York Times, Webb has been approached by representatives for both Vice President Mike Pence and acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney. Representatives for Vice President Mike Pence and Mick Mulvaney, the acting White House chief of staff, have reached out to Mr. Webb, one of the three officials said. Separately, a senior Defense Department official confirmed that Mr. Webb’s name had been circulating at the White House. Those two and the third official all spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the internal discussions. Webb’s vocal opposition to the Iraq war and former President Barack scumbag/liar-nObama’s Iran Deal — along with his belief that China should be dealt with aggressively — seem to align him with much of President Donald Trump’s foreign policy. He also fails to align with the more progressive Democrats on other key issues like climate change... https://dailycaller.com/2019/01/03/jim-webb-replace-mattis-defense-secretary-reports/?utm_medium=email.
Xi Jinping Thinks China
Is World's Only Sovereign State
{gatestoneinstitute.org} ~ "I hear prominent Americans, disappointed that China has not become a democracy, claiming that China poses a threat to the American way of life,"... Jimmy Carter wrote on the last day of 2018 in a Washington Post op-ed. That claim, Carter tells us, is a "dangerous notion." There is nothing more dangerous than a notion from the 39th president, even on China. China, despite what he said, threatens not only America's way of life but also the existence of the American republic. Chinese ruler Xi Jinping has, in recent years, been making the extraordinary case that the U.S. is not a sovereign state. The breathtaking position puts China's aggressive actions into a far more ominous context. Carter, and almost all others who comment on Chinese foreign policy, see Beijing competing for influence in the current international order. That existing order, accepted virtually everywhere, is based on the Treaty of Westphalia of 1648, which recognizes the sovereignty of individual states that are supposed to refrain from interfering in each other's internal affairs. Those states now compete and cooperate in a framework, largely developed after World War II, of treaties, conventions, covenants, and norms. Many Chinese policymakers believe they are entitled to dominate others, especially peoples on their periphery. That concept underpinned the imperial tributary system in which states near and far were supposed to acknowledge Chinese rule... https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13497/china-sovereign-state.
rino-Corker Bill Aimed at Undermining
Trump’s Broadcasting Chief Dies
by Susan Crabtree
{freebeacon.com} ~ A group of conservative senators successfully stopped a last-ditch effort to weaken the power of President Trump's choice to lead the nation's taxpayer-funded global broadcasting operation... The move paves the way for Senate confirmation of Michael Pack, Trump's choice to head the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM). The USAGM, previously called the Broadcasting Board of Governors, oversees the Voice of America and other U.S. taxpayer-funded broadcasting operations countering the propaganda arms of American adversaries such as Russia, Iran, and China. A bill sponsored by Sens. Bob Menendez (D., N.J.) and former Sen. rino-Bob Corker (R., Tenn.), which critics argued would seriously undermine the incoming head of the USAGM, died on the vine when the previous Congress ended and the 116th Congress convened Thursday afternoon. A group of conservative senators opposed the late 2018 effort to try to diminish Pack's power even before he started the job. House Dems Usher in the Resistanceby Thomas Gallatin: In December, the U.S. economy added 312,000 jobs, capping a year of strong economic growth and reaching 2.6 million new jobs in 2018. The bad news has been stock market volatility, for which President Donald Trump blamed Democrats: “As I have stated many times, if the Democrats take over the House or Senate, there will be disruption to the Financial Markets. We won the Senate, they won the House. Things will settle down. They only want to impeach me because they know they can’t win in 2020, too much success!”
Once again, Trump is right on the mark, as was clearly demonstrated by House Democrats on Thursday. Taking over the chamber after their midterm election win, Dems promptly used their new majority to offer nothing but a sequence of anti-Trump legislation and recession-triggering, big-government power grabs.
Cuing the #Resistance, House Socialists under Speaker Nancy Pulosi (D-CA) passed a spending bill that does not provide any funding for a border wall. In even more futile gestures, Rep. scumbag-Brad Sherman (D-CA) introduced articles of impeachment against Trump, while Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN) proposed a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College. Obviously, House Democrats’ legislative agenda is all about promoting themselves and resisting the president.
Where is the Democrat concern over maintaining the surging economy? Where is the proposed legislation that would provide greater protection for Americans by securing the nation’s borders? With all the Demo fearmongering over the supposed danger Trump poses to the nation’s system of governance, where is the legislation that would limit government abuse of power? Where in the Democrats’ legislative agenda is the commitment to promote and protect Americans’ individual liberty as defined by the Constitution?
The fact is, Democrats offer nothing but a hate-Trump platform of anger, division, and Liberty-stifling, economy-destroying socialism. Their concern is promoting anything that gives them greater power and control over the American people.
As Mark Alexander notes, “Unfortunately for all Americans outside the Beltway, blocking the Trump administration’s agenda may get Democrats the recession they want ahead of the 2020 elections. For the next two years, job and income prospects for tens of millions of American workers will fall victim to the Demos’ politically induced recession.”
