{freebeacon.com} ~ February 2019 is turning out to be a critical month in the presidency of Donald Trump. It may be the critical month. The midterm elections and record-long government shutdown are behind him... By delivering an optimistic and inspiring State of the Union address, Trump effectively reset his presidency and framed his opposition as beyond the American mainstream. But three tests await him: on Congress, on North Korea, and on China. How he handles these challenges will say a lot about his chances of reelection. The president suffered a double blow in recent months. The loss of the House of Representatives undermined his reputation as Teflon Don. The significance of increasing the Republican margin in the Senate and maintaining control of key governorships in Florida, Ohio, and Iowa faded after Election Day, as Democrats picked up House seat after House seat. The damage compounded on December 11 when Trump met with Nancy Pulosi and Chuck scumbag-Schumer in the Oval Office and preemptively took credit for a government shutdown if Congress, then under Republican control, didn't vote for additional wall funds. When the government shutdown began on December 22, voters knew exactly whom to hold responsible. Trump's job disapproval spiked. I mistakenly thought Trump's leverage would increase as the shutdown dragged on. Instead Pulosi held her caucus together, his numbers continued to fall, and Republican senators began to defect. By the time the FAA halted flights at three important airports in the Northeast, Trump's hand had disappeared. He agreed to reopen the government with no wall money until February 15. Pulosi won this round. But she also made an error: delaying the State of the Union until after the government reopened. Maybe it seemed like a clever move at the time. However, by eventually agreeing to her demand, Trump was allowed to deliver his annual address after the fallout from the shutdown had dissipated. Had he given the speech in the midst of furloughs, the content would have been lost amongst stories of hard-hit public employees. Pulosi inadvertently delivered Trump the blank slate on which he could write the next chapter of his administration...  https://freebeacon.com/columns/trumps-three-tests/?utm_source=Freedom+Mail&utm_campaign=1c19b2ac0d-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_02_07_09_51_COPY_152&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b5e6e0e9ea-1c19b2ac0d-45611665

Trump Has Authority to Declare Emergency
for Border Wall, Arizona Lawmaker Says

{dailysignal.com} ~ President Donald Trump does have the authority to declare a national emergency in order to build his promised border barrier between the United States and Mexico if gridlock in Congress makes it necessary... a Republican lawmaker says. “He has the authority, and it’s not unique,”  Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., said Wednesday at Conversations with Conservatives, a monthly press question-and-answer session hosted by conservative lawmakers and The Heritage Foundation. “We know that, for instance, there have been almost 60 emergency declarations in the last 25 to 30 years. There have almost been 60 emergency declarations by presidents, and I think the number is 30-some-odd that are still enforced.” On Jan. 25, Trump signed stopgap budget legislation funding the government through Feb. 15, ending the 35-day partial federal government shutdown stemming from Democrats’ refusal to appropriate the $5.7 billion Trump requested for a barrier along the southern border. Trump didn’t raise the prospect of declaring a national emergency in order to secure funding for the border wall in his State of the Union address Tuesday night, but Biggs said that option, though not his first choice, is still on the table...  https://www.dailysignal.com/2019/02/06/trump-has-authority-to-declare-emergency-for-border-wall-arizona-lawmaker-says/?utm_source=TDS_Email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=MorningBell%22&mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiT1dZeU5UZ3dNR1ZrWkRoaCIsInQiOiJVblczcVwvMzFVMGJVNEp6RWhXTjJmc2RLME1hVWhFNlA2YWE5TFU3XC9vWDZkYk9panRIaE1Kb1pnZjFhd0FtWHVmRHRWTE0xNDlNNHpXbzA1UXlTMEZpeXVJbmhvbWk0SURXTzFpMGdzUnUxMVhKTytRcWhLT0FyQkhVOUgxRWwxIn0%3D

Venezuela: Replacing Brutal Socialist
With More Socialism?

{thenewamerican.com} ~ While freedom lovers everywhere expressed delight at the ongoing implosion of the brutal Maduro regime oppressing the people of Venezuela... concerns about the foreign-backed interim president’s own socialist pedigree are growing within the nation and beyond. Especially alarming to non-interventionists is the prospect of U.S. government intervention in the Venezuelan struggle between opposing socialist camps. Granted, Interim Venezuelan President Juan Guaidó is, by all accounts, much more moderate in his socialism than the barbaric Maduro-Chávez regime. But Guaidó’s political party, known as “Popular Will,” is nevertheless a leftist member of the Socialist International, the largest and most powerful alliance of socialist and communist political parties in the world. This dangerous   network has openly called for a global socialist government. And its members include parties with the blood of millions on their hands. Of course, claims by dictators, communists, and socialists around the world that Guaidó is illegitimate appear to be unfounded. Some of the claims have been downright absurd, such as a remark by Muslim U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar claiming that the Trump administration was attempting to “install a far right opposition.” In reality, the democratically elected National Assembly, in accordance with Venezuela’s Constitution, declared dictator Maduro a “usurper” and demanded his removal. The Trump administration and governments around the world accepted the elected legislature’s decision and recognized Guaidó as interim leader while fresh elections are prepared. While the consensus virtually everywhere is that Guaidó and free elections would be a massive improvement over the status quo, Guaidó’s affinity for the socialism that wrecked his nation has caused concerns among freedom fighters in Venezuela and beyond. Domestically, the anti-communist opposition, which has long been brutally suppressed by the regime, is divided on whether Guaidó can be trusted. One major sticking point among critics is the allegation that Guaidó and his party are too closely linked to Maduro — especially ideologically...

Has Turkish President Erdoğan Distanced
Himself from the Muslim Brotherhood?

{gatestoneinstitute.org} ~ The picture sent shockwaves through Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's grassroots... A poor Egyptian member of the Muslim Brotherhood (Ikhwan in Arabic) handcuffed by the Turkish police, put aboard a Turkish Airlines plane to fly back to Cairo, to be tortured and eventually executed. Is President Erdoğan not a staunch supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood? Is he not an eternal enemy of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who came to power after toppling the Ikhwan man, former president Mohamed Morsi, a darling of Erdoğan? Did Erdoğan not freeze diplomatic relations with el-Sisi's Egypt? In August 2013, about a month after el-Sisi toppled Morsi, Erdoğan appeared on television. In an unusually soft voice he read a letter written by the Muslim Brotherhood's Mohamed al-Beltagy to his daughter Asmaa, a 17-year-old girl who had been killed in Cairo when security forces stormed two protest camps occupied by supporters of the deposed president, Morsi. Poor Asmaa was shot in the back and chest. "I believe you have been loyal to your commitment to God, and He has been to you," Asmaa's father wrote in the letter. "Otherwise, He would not have called you to His presence before me." You could see Erdoğan's tears. In later days, Asmaa became another symbol of Turkish Islamists; Erdoğan cheered party fans with the four-finger Rabia sign, a reference to his solidarity with the Muslim Brotherhood, and a sign of his endearment to the unfortunate girl. El-Sisi ran for president and won the elections, which Erdoğan then declared "null and void." Erdoğan vowed never to recognize the regime that seemed to have come to power in Egypt through a coup, and called el-Sisi "an illegitimate tyrant" and a "coup-maker"...

by Culture Beat:  The “new morality” of the Left has little room for mercy and none for forgiveness. Any indiscretion of its hallowed and ever-evolving “morality,” no matter how far back in the past it may have occurred, is met only with howls of rage by a “woke” mob demanding its pound of flesh. This new morality finds no virtue in honesty or the self-disclosure of one’s past “indiscretions”; instead, any wrong-think is greeted by demands that the individual be destroyed as a lesson to anyone else, lest they dare venture outside the realm of leftist dogma.

Case in point: The recent admission by actor Liam Neeson that he once entertained racist animosity in his past when he learned that a family member had been raped by a black man. Neeson explained, “I went up and down areas with a cosh [billy club], hoping I’d be approached by somebody — I’m ashamed to say that — and I did it for maybe a week, hoping some [in air quotes] ‘black bastard’ would come out of a pub and have a go at me about something, you know? So that I could … kill him.”

Neeson also expressed remorse and regret for his racist thoughts and actions: “It was horrible, horrible, when I think back, that I did that. And I’ve never admitted that, and I’m saying it to a journalist. God forbid. It’s awful. But I did learn a lesson from it, when I eventually thought, ‘What the f— are you doing,’ you know?”

Instead of receiving commendations for being honest about the ugliness of his past racist thoughts — and expressing sorrow for it — social media instead piled on Neeson for being a racist. It is the “unforgivable” sin, after all. There was no consideration for Neeson expressing that he used to think one way and saw the error of it and changed. Nope, it’s too late — once a racist, always a racist.

And this same judgmental mindset is being applied across all intersectional “victim” classes. For example, this year’s Academy Awards show will be host-less after actor and comedian Kevin Hart stepped down from hosting following blowback he received over disparaging comments he had made about homosexuality in the past. Hart noted that he had repeatedly apologized for his past comments, writing, “if u want to search my history or past and anger yourselves with what u find that is fine with me. I’m almost 40 years old and I’m in love with the man that I am becoming. If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify or explain their past then… I’m the wrong guy, man.”

As are millions upon millions of Americans. Nothing less than perpetual apologizing and groveling will be accepted by the “social justice warriors” — and even then one’s past cannot be truly forgiven.
