Deputy Attorney General Rosenstein
Threatened Resignation

{westernjournalism.com} ~ According to unnamed source close to the White House, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein threatened to resign in the wake of reports that cast him as a primary player behind the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.
Trump stated that he dismissed Comey after recommendations from Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Rosenstein had written a three-page memorandum for Trump that detailed his take on Comey’s sub-par performance as head of the FBI. In it, Rosenstein said the FBI would “unlikely to regain public and congressional trust” as long as Comey was the director.
A report from the Washington Post claimed Rosenstien was taken aback by the narrative from the White House, wherein he was characterized as the “hatchet man” behind Comey’s termination.
According to a report from CNN, Rosenstein was also unhappy with the way the Trump administration handled the firing.
The Justice Department on Thursday denied any threat of resignation from Rosenstein.
White House deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders was questioned on Good Morning America on Thursday about Rosenstein’s alleged threat of resignation
“I’m not aware of his threatening to resign, that’s a question you’d have to ask the Department Of Justice,” Huckabee Sanders told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos.
Stephanopoulos accused Huckabee Sanders, along with White House press secretary Sean Spicer and White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, of putting the blame on Rosenstein.
Huckabee Sanders said that the president based his decision in part from Rosenstein’s memo, but had also been considering terminating Comey since he took office.
White House counselor Kellyanne Conway made similar comments on CNN Tuesday. “This is a president who saw that the FBI director had lost the public confidence, the confidence of Republicans and Democrats.”
As criticism from Democrats about Comey’s firing has mounted, Trump tweeted a video that shows several politicians from the left recommending Comey step down from his position.
FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe is now the acting director since Comey’s firing.
Comey has released a statement asking his colleagues not to dwell on his firing, saying he believes the president is within his right to fire an FBI director “for any reason, or no reason at all.”
