Composed by Cary D'Agnese I/6/15
I was born in the fire of the forge
So very long ago
Some say a gift from God
Some say from the devils hand
I brought food to those who hungered
Guarded both king and commoner
On the Mayflower I sailed
On Americas shores I prevailed
I brought comfort and safety to family's
I opened the way to the frontier
With me, no one had to fear
I was the great equalizer
I gave respect to the oppressed
And judgment on the wicked
I stood my ground at Concord and Lexington
Fired freedoms shot heard around the world.
I stood with Washington at Trenton and Yorktown
And froze at Valley Forge on snowy ground
Then at Gettysburg, Shiloh and Bull Run
I made the final decision of freedom or slave
I was raised high to bid a fare well salute to a beloved leader
I was in Teddy's hand at San Juan Hill
With the dough Boys and Pershing, I served them well
In the darkest hours of WW2 I freed world and did God's will
Now I have been here for many years
I am bused tattered and damp with tears
Some people say I should have never been
Now, some say my life should end
But I was always there when you needed me
I was the tool that made you free
I was only as good or as bad as those who embraced me
If you decide my life shall end
And I shall never be again
Then Tyranny shall live for ever more
No choice to resist, You've closed the door
