In Memory of 9-11

Ballad of Homeland Security

When the lofty shinning towers fell

Death’s cold hand did silence Wall Street’s bell

Covered in ashes they rushed to fight that hell lit flame

Firemen, police, medics, lawyers, doctors all heard freedom’s call and came

In that choking blackness of that hallowed day

Came a new beginning some would say

Out with the old and in the with the new

Bureaucracies in the midst of turmoil did fail and stew

Many voices clamored in that awful din

While arguments over rights and security soon set in

In the people’s house leaders did rise and fall

But in the end justice and reason did answer freedom’s call

From the sun-baked border and small offices on the Potomac’s shore

Would go the call for America’s best to repair the fabric the terrorists tore

Hard fought fights to shape and organization soon set in

Most did not comprehend the nature of the battle they were about to begin

Personal sacrifice and lonely duty far from home would victory entail

But in the end freedom’s children over hell’s minions did prevail

Never again would ashes rain from the sky

Causing the blameless innocent to weep and cry

So for this did we pledge our lives, so freedom will never die
