- I have lived here in Harlan, Iowa for about 15 years and have never seen any type of military movement in this area except for the occasional jet flying over. Offutt air force base is about 55 miles from me over south of Omaha. About 15 minutes ago, I observed 2 CH47 Chinook twin blade helicopters fly over. Never had seen those around here before...They were on a northeast heading, probably flying out of Offutt air base. Those choppers can carry up to 55 military personal and was really wondering what they are doing over here. Just seemed strange since I had never seen this before..Hope we don't start seeing a lot of that type of activity going on.

Just found out Obama was headed for Boone Iowa for a stop over and then heading out after a short stop there..
Found out why those ch47 chinook's were flying over this area. President Obama was in Omaha, or Council Bluffs which is just across the river from Omaha. He was campaigning there and finished up and headed out somewhere else..Knew I had never seen those type of choppers here in this area...
