Monday Top News Executive Summary
Political Editors: According to Reuters, “The U.S. government cut aid to El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras on Saturday after President Donald Trump blasted the Central American countries for sending migrants to the United States and threatened to shutter the U.S.-Mexico border.” The announcement coincides with a recent report that March was expected to see 100,000 or more border apprehensions. In regards to cutting aid, Reuters says the State Department “would ‘engage Congress in the process,’ an apparent acknowledgement that it will need lawmakers’ approval to end funding that a Congressional aide estimated would total about $700 million.” Meanwhile, Trump on Saturday forewarned, “Next step is to close the Border!”

“China said Monday it would soon begin regulating all fentanyl-related drugs as a class of controlled substances,” CBS News reports. The regulation gets underway on May 1. This news is important because fentanyl currently ranks atop the most lethal drugs in the U.S. And as the report notes, “China already controls 25 variants of fentanyl, plus two precursors used to make the drug. Data from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration have shown that when China bans a variant of fentanyl, seizures of that analog in the U.S. fall.”

On Friday, U.S. District Judge Roger Benitez struck down California’s proscription on “high”-capacity magazines (i.e., 10 rounds or more). Interestingly, the judge used real-world examples as the basis for a judicial review. As USA Today reports, Judge Benitez “cited home invasions where a woman used the extra bullets in her weapon to kill an attacker while in two other cases women without additional ammunition ran out of bullets.” In a nod to the Constitution, Judge Benitez declared, “Individual liberty and freedom are not outmoded concepts.”

All Democrat crosshairs are currently situated on loose lips-Joe Biden, who is still mulling over whether to enter the 2020 Democrat presidential race. On Friday, The New York Times critiqued the former senator and vice president by profiling his mixed abortion record. Then over the weekend, the Associated Press reported that “loose lips-Biden faces new scrutiny from Dems over behavior with women.” loose lips-Biden’s creepy impulse to touch women is hardly breaking news, but the tide is definitely shifting against him — primarily because he’s an elderly white male. Case in point: Citing loose lips-Biden’s earlier remark on America’s need to alter its “white man’s culture,” CNN’s Joan Walsh suggested: “There’s six women in the race, four female senators. If you want to change it, that’s a way to change it.”

The Washington Examiner reveals, “The White House is quietly working on a healthcare policy proposal to replace the Affordable Care Act, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the matter.” Citing an unnamed health-policy analyst, the Examiner further explains that “the administration has been ‘having conversations’ on healthcare policy and has reached out to numerous think tanks, including the Heritage Foundation, the Mercatus Center, and the Hoover Institute.” The report helps to explain Trump’s recent proclamation that “the Republican Party will be the party of great health care.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper yesterday reminded us why his network ranks high up on the fake-news list by asserting, “I’m not sure … the media got [the Russia narrative] wrong. … Other than the people in the media on the left, not on this network, I don’t know anybody who got anything wrong.” The Daily Wire catalogues CNN’s extensive history of fake Russian news.

“On Saturday, Twitter temporarily suspended the account for the pro-life movie Unplanned, a film that tells the story of a former abortion clinic director at Planned Parenthood,” PJ Media’s Tyler O'Neil reports. At the same time, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg is urging social-media regulations to be tightened. Twitter’s snub notwithstanding, The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the film “opened to a strong $6.1 million from 1,059 theaters at the U.S. box office despite a relatively modest footprint.” This represents “the second-biggest start ever for faith-based distributor Pure Flix behind God’s Not Dead 2 ($7.6 million).”

On an equally positive note, “Georgia passed a bill that stands to become one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country,” according to The New York Times. “The bill … is expected to be signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp, a Republican. The measure generally prohibits the procedure after doctors can discern a fetal heartbeat, a milestone that happens around six weeks of pregnancy.”

A no-win situation: “British Prime Minister Theresa May risks the ‘total collapse’ of her government if she fails to get her battered Brexit deal through parliament, the Sunday Times newspaper said, amid growing speculation that she might call an early election. Underscoring the tough choices facing May to break the Brexit impasse, the newspaper said at least six pro-European Union senior ministers will resign if she opts for a potentially damaging no-deal departure from the EU. But at the same time, rival ministers who support Brexit were threatening to quit if May decides to stay close to the EU with a customs union or if she sought a long delay to Brexit.” (Reuters)

Communism in Our Schools and in Our Politics

{ americanthinker.com } ~ Even in high school, I found myself offended by my fellow students who were card-carrying communists in their beliefs and sympathies. In fact, a sizeable number of students clung to Marxism as dogma... The high school was Central High School for Boys, a school for gifted boys located in Philadelphia, Pa. Later, as I continued my studies in the Ivy League, I saw that there was a consistently strong element of intellectuals who were not in the least embarrassed to express their interest in communism. Once, as I stood with a crowd of students who were watching to see the outcome of events when a cadre of students locked themselves into the Harvard administration building and chained the doors, I was standing next to H.G., a fellow graduate student who had gone to the same high school and college as I had. He was rooting for the locked in students and for "the revolution," which he hoped was near. I asked him, "Herb, how can you be for communism or for 'revolution'? You are the same as I am — Jewish, son of working people or middle-class people — we went to the same high school, the same college! How can revolution or communism be good for anyone? He said nothing but looked at me with eyes filled with contempt. Later, he would become a professor of economics at Harvard University. Years after these early contacts with communists, I was converted to Christ. Although I had been anti-communist for years, only when I was welcomed into the Kingdom of God by my Lord and Savior did I begin to fully realize the enormity of the error that lay in Marxist-Engels-communist thought. Communism was not a doctrine merely to be disputed by men; rather, the communists had picked a losing fight with Almighty God. It was unworthy as a human doctrine not only by the lights and understandings of non-communist thinkers and actors on the political and economic stage, but, as a repudiation of Almighty God, and particularly Jesus Christ, it was a doctrine opposed to God Himself. It was not only the "part" of communism that announced its atheism that was wrong. Marx had said that "religion is the opiate of the people." But all the principles and historical concepts as well as the methodology of dialectical materialism were wrong and attempts to deceive people and turn them away from godly ways. "Bourgeois morality," attacked by Marxists, was a way of saying Judeo-Christian, biblical values are wrong. The doctrine of dialectical necessity, whereby history moves forward by a series of steps in a historical thesis, which gives rise to its antithesis, which in turn gives rise to a new cultural-economic paradigm — the synthesis — was itself a denial of the biblical view of history as governed by Divine Providence, and leading to the triumph of Christ over all creation by our redemption, His return and rule, and the final judgment on all the living and the dead. History is not moving dialectically, as Marx, building on the work of George Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, believed. Rather, history is moving forward providentially...

{ westernjournal.com } ~ If you leave the front door unlocked, don’t be surprised when criminals decide to take advantage of the opportunity... That’s common sense for millions of families in America, but a lesson that liberals still haven’t learned regarding the country’s southern border. While Democrats have pushed back against President Donald Trump and insisted that there’s no crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border, a disturbing case in Albuquerque is raising eyebrows. Federal authorities are currently pursuing cases against two brothers in New Mexico, and emerging details make it clear that the nation has a problem. Last year in August, police officers pulled over a GMC Sierra pickup truck in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. That by itself isn’t newsworthy, but what the cops discovered inside the vehicle made their jaws drop.“They found eight rifles, six handguns, night vision goggles, armored vests, more than $33,000 and a small amount of cocaine,” according to a report by the Albuquerque Journal. Police had stopped a hardened drug smuggler named Jesus Samaniego-Villa, who was wearing a ballistic vest while outfitted like a soldier planning a raid. “Two of the rifles — one fully automatic and classified as a machine gun — had been reported as stolen,” the Journal continued. You guessed it: The cartel members simply hadn’t bothered getting their weapons legally. This was no amateur crook. Officials quickly linked Samaniego-Villa to a Mexican drug smuggling operation that included his brother Sergio and other criminals. Unsurprisingly, they were in the United States illegally — and it’s likely that they had crossed the border many times. In fact, slipping out of U.S. custody seems to be a specialty of the Samaniego-Villa brothers. “Sergio was deported in 2012 while facing state drug charges in Bernalillo County after bonding out of the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center,” the Albuquerque Journal said. This barely deterred him, as he evidently re-entered the United States illegally a short time later... What is wrong with you dems, don't you understand the meaning of crisis at the border..

Saving Daylight, European StyleSpeaking of stopping clocks, that’s the point — the European parliament voted this week to scrap the biannual time change, allowing each European Union nation to choose its time. Nations that wish to remain on daylight time will spring forward for the last time in March 2021. Those choosing standard time will fall back for the final time in October 2021. It will be interesting to see what countries choose and how it affects commerce and other things.
Last year, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the “Sunshine Protection Act,” which would allow the U.S. to stay on Daylight Saving Time all year round. President Donald Trump even recently voiced support for doing so. Tongue planted firmly in cheek, we wrote last year, “Totally disrupting the space-time continuum twice a year leads to sloppy work by sleepy people, car accidents and other injuries, hordes of zombie children and a drastic increase in swearing. No rational human wants that to continue.”
We had a lot of fun advocating for Daylight Saving Time, but in all seriousness it is high time America picked a time and stuck with it. Surely if Europe can do it, we can too. ~The Patriot Post
