{jpost.com} ~ IDF aircraft struck multiple Hamas positions in the southern Gaza Strip in response to the launching of explosive balloons towards Israel Saturday night... Thousands of Gazans have been violently demonstrating along the security fence with Israel demanding an end to the 12-year long blockade every week for the past 11 months. Three Palestinians, including a medic and a journalist were injured on Friday during the protests.  According to the IDF some 8,000 Palestinians gathered at several points along the fence, burning tires, hurling stones, explosives devices and grenades at troops stationed along the fence. Demonstrators also burnt tires and launched incendiary balloons towards several locations. IDF troops responded with riot-control means.  Palestinians in the Hamas-run coastal enclave have been launching explosive balloons and other explosive aerial devices as part of The Great Return March protests which began on March 30th, leading to 2,000 separate fires resulting in over 35,000 dunams approximately 8,500 acres being burnt. According to the IDF, this has included over 13,000 dunams approximately 3,200 acres of nature reserves, and over 11,000 dunams approximately 2,700 acres of forestry...

{finance.townhall.com} ~ When I comment on articles about socialism on Facebook or web sites like Christianity Today or Patheos, I often get the response that socialism is just sharing and I wonder where they got such an idea... After all, if you read the writings of the followers of Saint-Simon, Marx, Lenin, Stalin or Mao, none of them mention sharing. So where did so many US citizens get the idea that socialism is just about sharing? I think the answer lies with “milk cow economics.” Starting in middle school, most social studies classes eventually get around to it. Clearly, milk cow economics is humorous and based on stereotypes. But why are the definitions of capitalism and socialism always the least funny? That’s because the authors intend to make socialism look much better than it would if people knew the histories of Nazi Germany, the USSR, China under Mao, North Korea, Cuba, etc. The creators of socialism, beginning with Plato, intended to perfect human nature through the elimination of private property, equalization of wealth and state regulation of daily life. In trying to accomplish their goal, they murdered about 100 million people in the 20th century. That makes the socialist joke about sharing even less funny. Not only is socialism not about sharing, but sharing is a capitalist gesture because in order to share something you have to own it. If my friend on the playground has no candy bar and I steal one from a guy who has two to give it to my friend, that’s not sharing. That’s just theft. It’s no different if the state does the stealing...

We can’t ignore something that reflects badly on a noble cause, as an activist might. We have to care about the means as much as the end because our duty is to search for the whole truth.
