Navy Mismanagement of Carrier Force Bites America
Harold Hutchison: The Navy is in a world of hurt. It's less than half the size it was when Ronald Reagan left office. Carrier air wings have fewer combat aircraft than they did in 1991 — about 33% less. We've gone from 15 carriers to 10. Now, the Navy's newest carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78), may not be able to deploy on time, leaving America short one more carrier.
That's not a good thing. The ChiComs have played a Cersei Lannister gambit in the South China Sea — and that puts American allies like the Philippines in a bind. America also has to confront the presence of China's DF-21 anti-ship ballistic missile — which, while overhyped, still inflicts virtual attrition on a Navy with too few hulls.
How did we get here? First, the Navy chose to prematurely retire the USS Enterprise (CVN 65), banking on the Ford being ready to fill in. Even though Newport News Shipbuilding could have done a second overhaul on the Big E, the nObama administration ignored the growing threats from China, Iran (which has been harassing American ships), and the Islamic State (not to mention the fact that the Russian reset wasn't quite working), and went ahead with the scrapping process. Second, the nObama administration began to scrap seven older carriers that were being kept in reserve.
Did we mention the world was getting more dangerous while we junk eight major strategic assets?
It took almost seven years from laying the Gerald R. Ford's keel to getting her to this point, and even then, with all of the new technology on board — like the electromagnetic catapults, the AN/SPY-3 radar, and new arresting gear — it may take time even after she's commissioned for her to be ready to deploy.
You'd think that Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus would have acted to address this before it got too severe. But Mabus has been more interested in dissing Navy heroes who don't buy into the politically correct changes in DOD policy he and others have been pushing.
Sadly, the Navy's carrier force isn't the only place there the mismanagement of our forces has been a continuing trend. Three of the Navy's Freedom-class littoral combat ships have suffered damage to their engines. The Marine Corps has been struggling to find sufficient numbers of flyable F/A-18 Hornets. The Air Force is falling short of pilots. Army OH-58s are getting older as proposed replacements like the RAH-66 and ARH-70 fall victim to the budget axe. Even ground troops could see defense cuts rob them of the game-changing XM25 "Punisher," officially known as the Counter Defilade Target Engagement (CDTE) System, even though it performed well in operational testing in Afghanistan.
Cuts like these, not to mention the onslaught of political correctness and social engineering, don't just hurt the material performance of our troops. As Mark Alexander wrote Wednesday, they also kill the military's most valuable resource — morale. That means troops, some with combat experience, may retire or not re-enlist, creating a vicious cycle of declining readiness due to subpar training due to loss of experience.
Reversing this trend won't be easy, but it will be essential. Because an unprepared military invites aggression — which will be far more expensive in money, equipment and lives than it would have been to properly maintain our forces in the first place.

‘Stunned’ Trey Gowdy: FBI Gave Immunity

Trey Gowdy (R., S.C.) ripped the Justice Department’s “stunning” reported decision to grant immunity to the “triggerman” who deleted liar-Hillary Clinton’s emails during a Fox News appearance on Friday... “This is Prosecutor 101. You don’t give immunity to the person who actually robbed the bank,” Gowdy said. “You may want to give it to the getaway driver. You may want to give it to the person who helped them count the money afterwards, but you don’t give immunity to the person who walked in and robbed the bank. Why David Bossie Scares the liar-Clintons

He has dismantled our border security and helped to usher in vast numbers of unknown persons across open borders, through the issuance of visas which are not followed up on when they expire and so-called refugees, of which most are persons allowed to enter without proper or meaningful vetting. In his interview with Catherine Herridge, the normally fairly savvy reporter nods like a transfixed school girl, letting Johnson get away with his usual vague claims and assertions. He repeats without challenge his standard excuses for not doing his job. “The enemy is much more sophisticated now” and “We have to be concerned with the terrorist inspired attacks in addition to terrorist directed attacks.” A favorite Johnson excuse is that the terrorist enemy, or allies as he may prefer to think of them, uses the Internet as a weapon against us. Given that assertion it’s even more irresponsible to be planning to turn over control of the Internet to the UN. That’s a great way to complicate things and empower the terrorists, Johnson. You and nObama out did yourselves coming up with that one...Why is he getting away with it?

Now it appears, we have an explanation for the odd behavior of Director Comey, and it has to do with his corruption, his conflict of interest and his association with the racketeering liar-Clinton Foundation. This man who was supposedly a bastion of integrity may have instead only been a little better at hiding his dishonesty. {tommclaughlin.blogspot.com} ~ How many times have I been called a racist? Dozens at least, perhaps hundreds. How about homophobic? Yup, about as many. Islamophobic? Check. Misogynist? Check. Xenophobic? Got it. Let’s see, what’s left? How about bigot? Yeah, that too — all of which puts me right in liar-Hillary’s “basket of deplorables.” I also qualify as one of President nObama’s “bitter clingers” and as a member of that other group liar-Hillary doesn’t like: the so-called “alt-right.” I didn’t know what alt-right was when she said it a few weeks ago but I looked it up and yes, I qualify.
The first time I remember being called racist in print was tweet years ago after I wrote a column supporting the California Civil Rights Initiative (CCRI), otherwise known as Proposition 209. It was a referendum question, which read:
The state shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.
The “racist” accusations — and there were three as I recall — were in letters to both papers carrying the column, and they bothered me. I knew there was no basis, but they made me feel bad because racism is an ugly thing and I didn’t want any association with it. I’d been putting my opinions out there for three or four years by that time and I had gotten plenty of flak, but not that kind. Heck, I was writing against racial discrimination. How could that be racist?

Proposition 209 would have made so-called Affirmative Action programs illegal because they give preference to blacks and hispanics over Asians and whites in college admissions, when hiring for teachers, police, firemen, and so forth. That’s racial discrimination, of course, but it’s the kind approved by the left — and leftists attack anyone who points that out. Since they cannot argue using facts, all they have is name-calling. They’ve flung the racist charge so often for so long, it has become a reflex. Columnist Mark Steyn calls it “Democrat Tourette’s Syndrome.”
It was good advice and someone should have given it to Maine Governor Paul LePage. He was enraged after a leftist legislator suggested he was racist. Lepage called him and left an obscenity-laced voicemail which the legislator sent to the media. That was dumb — very dumb. It’s one thing to feel like striking back but quite another do actually do it. LePage gave his enemies a club with which they will beat him as long as he’s in office.
Accuser and accused
I voted for LePage twice and I don’t regret it given the choices I had. I intend to vote for Trump too, even though I would have preferred any of the other Republicans who opposed him in the primaries. Against liar-Hillary though? I have to vote for him and I will, but I wouldn’t call myself a “Trump supporter.”
So, even though I don’t support Trump, I still belong in liar-Hillary’s “basket of deplorables.” Here are my bona fides:
I see abortion — the dismembering of babies in their mothers’ wombs — as barbaric, so I’m against “women’s health” and therefore women too according to Democrats who consider pregnancy a disease. So, I’m hopelessly “misogynist.”
I oppose importing tens of thousands of unvetted immigrants from Muslim-terrorist-dominated countries, therefore I’m both “Islamophobic” (unreasonable fear of Islam) and “xenophobic” (unreasonable fear of foreigners).
I consider it unnatural for two women or two men to “marry,” Therefore I’m “homophobic.”

I cling to both my guns and my religion, so I’m a “bitter clinger.”
I believe western civilization superior to other civilizations before or since, and prefer the melting pot model to multiculturalism. Evidently that makes me “alt-right."

I’m a heterosexual white guy who doesn’t believe there’s any such thing as “white privilege.”
All this qualifies me for inclusion in liar-Hillary’s “basket of deplorables” and I move for summary judgement.
