PROFITS ARE BENIFICIAL-NOT EVIL

THE OWS CLAIMS BUSINESS PROFITS ARE EVIL AND IF THAT IS FACT AS THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION SEES FACT, THEN EVERYTHING WE ENJOY TODAY IS EVIL.  WHEN I WAS A SMALL BOY, AND VISITED MY GRANDPARENTS FARM, THE FIELDS WERE PLOWED BY HORSE DRAWN PLOWS, NOT TRACTORS AND TRACTORS WOULD NOT BE HERE MTODAY IF NOT FOR BUSINESS PROFITS WHICH PAID FOR THEIR DEVELOPMENT, THE LIGHTING IN THE FARM HOUSE WAS CVOAL OIL LANTERNS, THE PRINCIPLE HEAT WAS THE WOOD BURNING STOVE IN THE KITCHEN, WE HAD TO GO DOWN A PATH TO GET TO THE UNHEATED AND UNLIGHTED TOILET, MY FATHER AND OTHER FARMERS FAMILY'S SPENT A LOT OF TIME DURING THE WINTER CUTTING LARTGE BLOCKS OUT OF THE HUDSON RIVER AND PUT THEM IN AN ICE HOUSE TO BE USED IN THE SUMMER TO KEEP FOOD FROM SPOILING AND WHEN YOUNG BOYS HORMONES BEGAN HEATING UP THEY HAD TO GO INTO THE MICE MHOUSE AND SITT ON THOSE BLOCKS OF ICE UNTIL ,THEY COOLED OFF. MANY PEOPLE WHO HAD CARS HAD TO START THEM BY CRANKING.  SO IF PROFITS ARE EVIL,THEN SO ARE THE CARS, HEATING FURNACES, AIR CONDITIONERS, REFRIGERATORS, STOVES, COMPUTERS, MICROWAVES, AIRPLANES, BOATS, LIGHTS AND ON AND ON  BECAUSE THEY ALL WERE DEVELOPED, IMPROVED AND CONSTRUCTED WITH PROFITS. THOSE AMERICAN INDIANS USED TO LIVE IN WICKIEUPS, AND TEPEES HEATED BY A FIRE IN A HOLE IN THE GROUND  AND HAD TO KILL A VARIETY OF ANIMALS WITH WOODEN OR STONE CLUBS FOR FOOD AND CLOTHING.  EVEN SOME OF THE THINGS THAT OWS PEOPLE USE ILLEGALY, LIKE POT, ETC ARE EVIL BUT THEY CONTINUE TO USE ALL THESE EVIL THINGS TO ATTACK THOSE WHO CREATE PROFITS BECAUSE PROFITS ARE EVIL AND THEREFORE SHOULD BE SHARED WITH ALL THOSE POOR FOLKS WHO PREFER TO BE PROTESTERS INSTEAD OF PRODUCERS

  • I  believe that a company has a moral duty to make a profit.  A profit is the difference between the value of what a company starts with and the value of what if finishes with.  Profits represent the value added.

Having said that, there are vast differences in how that profit can be used.  It can be returned to the shareholders in the form of dividends, it can be used to improve productivity, it can be invested in research and development, or it can be used to increase employee compensation.  All of these are legitimate business expenses.  But all can be done in ways that will benefit the company or in ways that will damage it.

I think that is the point the OWS folks are trying to make, albeit not very well.  The book "Disney Wars" describes how Michael Eisner was paid over $300 million in annual salary and bonuses for more than one year.  I think it becomes difficult to justify salaries of that size.
