Iran poised to benefit most from
U.S. withdrawal from Syria
by Behnam Ben Taleblu

{fdd.org} ~ President Trump’s recent decision to withdraw the approximately 2,000 U.S. troops stationed in Syria signals that Washington is unwilling to challenge Iran in a theater of conflict...
that the Islamic Republic has invested heavily in for more than seven years. This will have significant  consequences for Middle East security as well as the success of the administration’s Iran policy. Washington is currently in the throes of a maximum pressure campaign against Iran. But absent a military strategy to counter Iran’s support for regional destabilization, it will be relying on sanctions alone to change Iranian behavior — which is no easy task. According to Ambassador James Jeffrey, “The U.S. cannot dictate events in Syria, but by its presence can contest Iran’s and Russia’s freedom of action.”Tehran has stood by the Bashar al-Assad regime since the beginning of the war in Syria, marshaling countless Shiite militiamen as well as members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to fight and die there. Iran is also trying to create a land bridge from Tehran to the Mediterranean, where it can more easily project power and transport men, money and munitions into war zones..

Misinformation on Twitter

{gatestoneinstitute.org} ~ Controversy over the responsibility Twitter has in policing its users has been at the forefront of our national discourse... There is also a role for individuals to play in propagating fair and accurate stories on this platform. On Twitter, information seems to spread at lightning speed and "news" stories have a way of taking on a life of their own. Twitter undoubtably has some virtue -- I myself am a frequent user. It is a forum where otherwise disparate people can communicate quickly and information can be democratized. However, Twitter all too frequently can be used to deceive and mislead. On Twitter, I am often the target of misleading news stories based on out of context or truncated quotes as well as outright lies. My recent commentary on Michael Flynn's lying to the FBI is a perfect example of just that. On December 17, I was interviewed by Bill Hemmer and was asked about the repercussions of Flynn lying to the FBI. I first responded by stating: "I hope the judge understands when he has the case tomorrow; Flynn did not commit a crime by lying because the lie has to be material to the investigation, and if the FBI already knew the answer to the question and only asked the question to give him an opportunity to lie, his answer, even if false, was not material to the investigation." My point was clearly laid out. A few minutes later, Hemmer brought the topic back to Flynn. I then, once again, clearly stated my aforementioned argument around materiality: "The lie has to be material to the investigation, and if the FBI already knew the answer to the question and only asked him the question in order to give them an opportunity to lie, his answer, even if false, was not material to the investigation. Which answers the question Hemmer interrupts... Lying to the FBI is not a crime Hemmer interrupts..." I was interrupted and unable to finish my point which was "lying to the FBI is not a crime if the lie is not material."...  https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/13446/dershowitz-twitter-misinformation

Turkey’s Defense Minister Promises To “Bury” Kurds
In Syria After US Withdrawal; Update: Postponed

{hotair.com} ~ The Kurds are about to learn a hard lesson about partnering with the US against transnational terrorism... After having served as the main fighting force against ISIS in Syria and having bled all over Raqqa to wrest back control of its “capital,” the Kurds have now hunkered down and await an attack from US ally Turkey. The US will have exited the theater by the time it comes, which led Turkey’s defense minister to publicly promise to “bury” the Kurds in their entrenchments: Turkey’s defense minister said Thursday that Kurdish forces in Syria would be “buried” in their trenches in any Turkish operation to rout the fighters from the border, just one day after President Trump announced a withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country. Speaking from the Qatari capital, Doha, Hulusi Akar said Turkey was preparing “intensely” for a military offensive east of the Euphrates River in Syria, where Kurdish-led forces have battled the Islamic State militant group. The fighters have dug trenches and tunnels in the area in anticipation of the operation, Akar said, according to Turkey’s official Anadolu news agency. “But whatever they dig . . . when the time comes they will be buried in the trenches,” he said. “Of this there should no doubt.” That’s probably true, now that the US has decided not to stick around... Its time to reconsider Trump.  https://hotair.com/archives/2018/12/21/turkeys-defense-minister-promises-bury-kurds-syria-us-withdrawal/?utm_source=hadaily&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=nl&bcid=7220442bc3498cb5e2d68f3cb4d11680

Report Says Massachusetts
Gun Control Laws Have Failed

A “special report” from the Massachusetts Gun Owners’ Action League (GOAL) says the state’s restrictive gun control laws have not been the success that some claim... and during the past 20 years, the state’s murder rate actually increased. “Where’s the success,” GOAL asks in a news release asserting that since the passage of Chapter 180, which is the gun control law adopted in 1998, “there has been no decrease in firearm-related accidental deaths. Perhaps that is because statistically there never was a problem.” But there have been a lot of deaths due to other causes, GOAL says, including the 1,751 people who perished in 2015 from drug overdoses or poisons, along with the 732 who died in falls and 416 people who died in “transportation-related accidents.” But, the group adds, only one person died that year in a firearms accident. The FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2017 shows that there were 170 homicides in the state last year, of which 99 involved firearms. The 11-page report reaches some hard conclusions about the success of Massachusetts gun laws and found that success is, at best, elusive...  https://lidblog.com/massachusetts-gun-control/

{dailycaller.com} ~ Fox News’ Laura Ingraham completed the final episode of her long-running radio show on Thursday... as she gears up for a future in podcasting. Ingraham originally announced that she was ending her radio show back in November, explaining that working late nights on her Fox News show “The Ingraham Angle” and getting up early for radio had taken a toll on her family. “While hosting a prime-time television show and raising three children on my own, continuing a three-hour morning radio show was no longer feasible,” Ingraham said. “Although I will greatly miss my radio listeners and affiliates, working late nights and early mornings has taken a toll on my family life.” Ingraham’s radio program was a daily three-hour show and was one of the most listened to political talk shows in the country...  https://dailycaller.com/2018/12/20/laura-ingraham-radio-show-ending/

Tucker Carlson: Why The Patriot Post Refuses Advertising

by Mark Alexander:  This week, there was yet another example of why The Patriot Post has refused, since our inception, to take revenue from advertisers.

Tucker Carlson and Fox News are being boycotted by, among other corporate advertisers, IHOP, the United Explorer credit card, Just For Men, Jaguar Land Rover, Ancestry.com, and Voya Financial. That boycott is because of Carlson’s opposition to illegal immigration, and it’s typical of a growing trend in strong-arm tactics being used by Moveon.org, Media Matters, and other leftist organizations.
The most obvious evidence that The Patriot Post is not subject to such leftist extortion is that our homepage and editions are not cluttered with the often-offensive ads plastered on virtually all mainstream media news sites and in their emails.
Notably, those publications also collect information on your patterns of use and consumer interests, which they then sell to marketers. Unlike the MSM news platforms, we do not violate your privacy. We do not share any information about you to any third party. We are a certified “Ad Free” website and have a very strong and unambiguous privacy policy.
However, there is a more subtle and far more invasive reason The Patriot Post refuses advertising requests: Depending on ad revenue adulterates editorial content and perspective. In short, it infringes on free speech.
As outlined on our Mission and Objective pageThe Patriot Post’s budget is funded solely by the voluntary financial support of our fellow Patriots. We are not sustained by any political, special interest, or parent organization, and we do not accept advertising to ensure our advocacy and editorial content is not restrained by commercial influence.
Support free speech! Please support The Patriot Fund’s Year-End Campaign today.  ~The Patriot Post
