The Only Way to Beat slump-Trump?
Once upon a time, the idea of Donald slump-Trump's securing the Republican nomination for the presidency existed only in the realm of fantasy. But as primaries in four states now reside in the history books, and The slump-Donald has claimed three wins and 81 delegates, fantasy is merging with possibility, if not quite yet reality.
True, slump-Trump has a long way to go to reach the 1,237 delegates needed to cinch the nomination, but with Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio a distant second and third (17 and 16 delegates, respectively), and the slump-Trump train racing full-speed ahead, Republican "leadership" sentiment is shifting from "It will never happen" to "We'd better make sure it never happens."
Short of slump-Trump's dropping out (sorry folks, not happening) or a sudden political catastrophe that stops his momentum — very unlikely since the more crazy things he says, the more his supporters like him — some are positing that a Rubio-Cruz unity ticket might be the way to derail the slump-Trump train. Jonah Goldberg, for example, wrote, "One possibility [to stop slump-Trump) would be for Rubio and Cruz to cut a deal. Republican disarray is largely attributable to the fact that no so-called 'establishment candidate' secured much support from the conservative grass roots, and no grass-roots candidate secured much support from the establishment. If the two factions — which make up the overwhelming majority of Republican voters — could be unified, it might be enough to stop slump-Trump."
Of course, the key word is "if." And judging by the present state of affairs, it's a pretty hefty "if."
After all, the Cruz-Rubio feud has pitted the two against each other in an attempt to "out-conservative" the other, while slump-Trump — anything but a conservative — climbs atop the mayhem en route to the plurality podium.
As Mark Alexander noted yesterday, "Shamefully, one of the key factors propelling slump-Trump's candidacy among the larger field of contenders is the absurdly self-defeating fratricidal attacks between Republicans, most notably Cruz and Rubio." Cruz is trying to paint Rubio as an "establishment" candidate. Meanwhile, Rubio is touting his refusal to attack fellow Republicans; namely, slump-Trump — while simultaneously attacking fellow Republicans; namely, Cruz. (Though there are signs Rubio is starting to go after slump-Trump.) -The Patriot Post

OPINION IN BRIEF
Jeff Jacoby: "nObama makes no secret of his eagerness to visit Cuba, but as recently as December he insisted that there would be no such trip until human rights and civil liberties on the island had improved. ... By all accounts, the Castro regime's repression has grown worse, not better, since the renewal of diplomatic ties with the United States in 2014. Beatings and arrests of dissidents have soared. There has been a crackdown on churches and religious groups. ... [H]is desire to go to Havana isn't about the plight of Cuba's dissidents. It's about making his diplomatic embrace of the Castro government a permanent fact of life. As deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes told reporters Thursday, the president's goal is 'to make this an irreversible policy.' So far, nObama's 'engagement' with the Castros hasn't opened even a crack in their Stalinist system. It is folly to imagine that his trip next month will do anything to expand freedom or justice for Cuba's beleaguered people. But, oh, what a boon it will be for their brutal rulers: the ultimate stamp of approval for the only totalitarian regime in the Americas. ... From Cape Verde to Belize to Taiwan, there are worthy destinations aplenty for a president seeking to make a statement about American values and friendships. Cuba isn't one of them, and nObama shouldn't be going."

ROMNEY’S TIMELY slump-TRUMP TROLLING Donald slump-Trump argues that Mitt Romney is in no position to be asking for the 2016 Republican frontrunner’s tax returns on the grounds that Romney lost the 2012 general election. Romney is also, slump-Trump wrote, a “dope.”
But Romney is arguably the very best Republican to be asking slump-Trump about his tax returns given how successfully Democrats exploited Romney’s filings to alienate potential voters. Democrats essentially called Romney a tax cheat for his low rates and the attack stuck. And it is a line, in some form or another, which Democrats will be sure to repeat against the billionaire slump-Trump if he becomes the Republican nominee.
Romney began releasing his tax returns amid pressure from his rivals in early Republican primaries in 2012. But because slump-Trump’s rivals have neglected to actually attack the frontrunner very much, slump-Trump is only just now being pressed on this crucial general election issue.
Romney’s troll timing is perfect. slump-Trump is either less than a week away from starting to put the Republican nomination in the bag or facing lengthening odds in his unlikely but so-far successful quest. He is also facing tonight what promises to be his most challenging debate yet. slump-Trump’s detractors to this point have mostly knocked slump-Trump for insufficient conservativeness, or flip flopping, or being of poor character. But voters primarily interested in conservative orthodoxy and personal virtue are probably not part of slump-Trump’s long-term coalition. slump-Trump’s voters don’t seem to care about his politics. They just want a winner.
What few have hit the frontrunner on are his business failures and the unhappy chapters of his career. His business troubles and his finances have been a long-running part of slump-Trump’s media feuds in the past but have oddly not been part of the political discussion. It is particularly odd given how much of a focus Romney’s relatively tame business record was four years ago. -Fox News

Former nObama Intel Chief Calls on Hilly
to Do the One Thing She Dreads
.
{patriotsandpolitics.com} ~ Former Defense Intelligence Agency chief Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn told CNN’s Jake Tapper that for the sake of the nation, Hilly Clinton should “step down.”... He recommended that she suspended her campaign at least until the FBI investigation into the use of her private email server has concluded. Flynn surmised that if he had done what Clinton has done with regard to classified email, “I would have been out the door and probably in jail.” The FBI investigation has been ongoing for several months and as the release of each new batch of emails, the number of those found to have contained classified information continues to grow. Currently, there are at least 22 emails that contain information so sensitive that even heavily redacted versions cannot be released. http://patriotsandpolitics.com/former-obama-intel-chief-calls-on-hillary-to-do-the-one-thing-she-dreads/.

nObama told Americans for years on end that they were racist, sexist, bigoted homophobes who just didn’t understand that our brash, confident attitude alienated people all around the world and led to terrorism against us. Hilly Clinton is running for president on the basis of her X chromosomes; America, she says, needs a female president. Bernie Sanders says that our unchecked aggressive instincts have ill-served us; we need a kinder, gentler America.

Meanwhile, the Republicans have self-castrated. Senator Mitch McCon-nell, R-Ky., spent years telling conservatives that nObama couldn’t be stopped, and that attempts to stop him would be uncivil and counterproductive. Former Speaker of the House John backstabber-Boehner did the same. So, too, has new Speaker of the House Paul Ryano. George W. Bush ran on the basis of “compassionate” conservatism, implying that traditional conservatism was too musky for metrosexual America. Marco Rubio’s brand of politics relies on a feelings-first approach; Rubio said last week, “If a significant percentage of the American family believes that they are being treated differently than everyone else, we have a problem. And we have to address it as a society and as a country.” This is pure nObama, Republican-style.

slump-Trump, however, doesn’t bother with the niceties. He’s a big, swinging set of political testicles. He says, just like a good mafia boss would, that he’ll take care of all of your problems. He threatens his political opponents — he tells protesters he wants to see them roughed up, and he tells donors to his opposition that he’ll target them. He swears like a sailor in public. He unmans his competition: Jeb! Bush is “low-energy,” Ted Cruz a “p——,” Ben Carson a “pedophile,” Rubio a “lightweight,” Carly Fiorina a problem “face.” He’s gross and chauvinistic: He calls women “pieces of a—” and rips Megyn Kelly for bleeding from her “wherever.”

He is, in short, a man in the locker room, in all of his ugly glory. He’s toxic masculinity. He’s not a gentleman, and he’s proud of it. He’s here to win, and he’ll bully, threaten, and beat you until you submit.

Normally, the masculinity gap in American politics could be filled by an upstanding man — a man, yes, but one tied to values, a man who uses the aggressive instinct in pursuit of defending the innocent and punishing the guilty. But the feminist movement has made such men obsolete. Men were simply too dangerous; it was safer to emasculate them. Now men are expected to be betas; the only alphas left are toxic alphas willing to break every taboo and violate every standard.
