  • Greg, why do you think Perry has a better chance of beating President Obama than does Romney?  Perry has put on a pretty convincing display of incompetence in every debate and he has his own "cult" problems.
  • Rick Perry has demonstrated his incompetence. Herman Cain is the new media darling, but he may not last (and I think 9-9-9 is more glitz than substance). Bachman is no longer a serious contender and the rest are strap-hangers. Huntsman is my real favorite --- even more than Romney or anyone else --- because I'm an engineer and he seems to be the only one who takes science seriously. He's got zero chance.
  • Rick Perry doesn't stand a Hoosiers' chance in Hell of beating Obozosoetoro.  Too much manipulative baggage, and not a lot of positive history.  Texas fiscal situation is apparently due more to past policies than Perry-policies.  I like the guy, like on a beer-drinkin' level, but I don't trust him much further than that.  After his wifes' little episode the other day at a campaign function, my antennea went up even further.
  • Greg, Romney faces an uphill battle, but I don't see anyone else with as good a chance.  Do you?
  • James: I don't like Romney's chances, nor many of his policies, but I can't see any other Republican who will run nearly as well against President Obama.  Can you?  I'd rather win with a candidate I can tolerate than lose with one I love.  As long as the economy is tanked I think Romney may have a winning issue.  Can he use it?

The wild card will be his religion.  Romney's a Latter-Day Saint.  That seems to evoke a visceral dislike from some people on these blogs, but I don't think they are truly representative of the general voting population.

  • Greg,

Thank you for your response.  More important, thank you for your Service.

  • Greg,

    Thank you for your response.

Let's get back to the fundamental issue.  You prefer President Obama over Mitt Romney; I prefer Romney over President Obama.

I'd like to replace President Obama.  I think Romney is the only one of the potential candidates who can pull that off.  I'm sure I won't like all of Romney's policies, but I think that overall I'll prefer them to President Obama's.

You don't like Romney. I think this is partly because you disagree with his policies and partly because he's LDS.  (As I wrote before, I am not.)  You disagree with him so strongly that you would rather have President Obama remain in office than have Romney win and replace him. I find this preference strange in a Tea Party member, but there is no accounting for taste.

Again, I don't think that calling me names helps your argument.  It may lead people to infer that you aren't capable of addressing the issue on its merits.

Thank you again for your response.

    Peter

  • Greg,

Thank you for your response.  You and I disagree about Romney.  I prefer him to President Obama.  Evidently you do not.  The fact that he's a Latter-Day Saint doesn't bother me at all.  I'm not LDS, but I've known at least a dozen Latter-Day Saints, some in positions of great trust, and they've all been arrow-straight.  This may not be true of Romney, but his LDS beliefs won't be the reason.

Finally, ad hominem arguments don't help your cause.  They make your readers think you're not capable of real ones.

    Thanks again for your comments.

    Peter

  • I suggest we practice liking Romney.  Start with five minutes a day and work up to 24 hours of full commitment.  Either than or practice liking President Obama because that's who'll be in the White House.

The winning Presidential candidate must capture a substantial number of independent voters.  I believe that right now Romney is the potential candidate most likely to do so.  Perry doesn't appear to be ready for prime time and none of the others seem to have the stature to be serious candidates.  (Cain may turn out to be an exception.)  I believe that the choice is ideological purity and guaranteed defeat, or pragmatism and a chance at victory.

  • well said , Dan, it is much to early to make any kind of judgement, everybody has their favorite but each of these debaste participants has their own special unique talents but unfortunatly it is not possable to puit them in a blender and create the perfect one. Inasmuch as one of these 8 will evidently be President Obummers opponent, we should for the positives in each of them, It is imperative for the survival of our republic to have a change in both the executive and legislative branches of our government so look for the positives in each canidate. everyone of us has positives and negastives. When I was much younger there was a song "accentuate the positives, eliminate the negatives"  and give our input regarding the cabinet choices for the next president.
