March 16, 2015 Dear Ms. Van Hulle: Thank you for contacting me about your support for H.R. 140, the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2015. I appreciate hearing from you on this important issue. Introduced by Rep. Steve King (R-IA), H.R. 140 seeks to prevent children born in the United States from receiving citizenship unless one or both parents is a legal U.S. resident. I do not support this legislation for several reasons. First, abolishing birthright citizenship would require the creation of a massive new federal bureaucracy to accept and adjudicate applications for newborns. Second, because immigrants come to this country primarily for economic reasons, the preponderance of evidence indicates that repealing the 14thAmendment would do little to discourage people from crossing our borders illegally. Third, an end to birthright citizenship would produce a new population of undocumented children who would grow up without access to basic services and have limited employment prospects later in life. In order to fix our broken immigration system, we need comprehensive immigration reform that keeps families together, secures our border, and grows our economy. While I believe protecting our borders and enforcing our laws are indispensable elements of any meaningful effort to reform our immigration system, so is a pathway to earned citizenship that allows the 11 million undocumented individuals to come out of the shadows and have an opportunity to fully contribute to American life. Please be assured that I am committed to working on a bipartisan basis to create a modern, 21st-century immigration system. Hearing from the constituents I serve is important to addressing the needs of Arizona’s 7th District. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, and I hope you will continue to keep me informed regarding issues that concern you. Apparently it's a standard letter. I've gotten two worded the exact same way from a couple of representatives in Kansas.
Reading the second paragraph, is now an old bad joke. Once again it's dialog taken right out of the standard DEM talking points play book. " In order to fix our broken immigration system, we need comprehensive immigration reform...."
HELLO! It's not a broken immigration system! Enforce the laws already on the books..... DAMMIT! What makes hearing this insanity year after year even worse, - is the fact that this exact same line of BS is now the mantra of the Jeb Bush campaign platform. Has anyone heard what that fat loser is saying? He's going around telling people 12 million illegals will be good for the economy, and we will be more dynamic and blah blah, blah. We have to send that guy home crying after the GOP primaries.
Oh and one other thing, WE MUST NEVER SAY THEY CAN'T HAVE ACCESS TO OUR PUBLIC SERVICES LIKE WELFARE, FOOD STAMPS, SOCIAL SECURITY, AND RENT ASSISTANCE. BS!!
Please be assured he could care less what we think.
