Trump Keeps Israel Vote Promise, SMASHED UN Execs’ Budget on Christmas Eve
The United Nations is going to have to learn that with Donald Trump in the White House, decisions have consequences.
Three days after 128 countries voted in the U.N. to condemn the United States for acknowledging the reality that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel, the United States negotiated a $285 million slashing of the U.N.’s operating budget.
According to ABC News, the new budget for the 2018-2019 fiscal year is $5.4 billion, a 5 percent decrease from the year before.
It is important to note that the United States pays 22 percent of that budget, which is more than any other nation.
According to Fox News, the American U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley hinted at the budget decrease after the General Assembly’s Dec. 21 vote.
“The inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known,” Haley said after that vote.
“We will no longer let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked,” she continued.
President Donald Trump immediately warned the U.N. that he would cut off financial aid from anyone who went against the United States.
Sure enough, in the U.N. budget announcment on Christmas Eve, Haley made it clear that that promise was being kept.
“This historic reduction in spending – in addition to many other moves toward a more efficient and accountable U.N. – is a big step in the right direction,” Haley explained, praising the United States’ decision.
This is not the first time that The White House promised to slash the U.N.’s budget.
In March 2017, President Trump vowed to cut $1 billion in funding for the U.N.’s peacekeeping budget, according to Foreign Policy.
It’s long past time the United Nations learned that the United States isn’t a doormat the U.N.’s impoverished, demanding members can walk all over any time they feel the urge.
But that’s one lesson the Trump administration is going to teach:
Actions have consequences.
