form government; now it’s Gantz’s turn to try

by timesofisrael.com ~ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday evening announced he had failed to muster a coalition after almost four weeks of effort, and therefore returned the mandate to form a government to President Reuven Rivlin... Netanyahu’s 28-day deadline for building a government was due to expire on Wednesday. Rivlin is now expected, probably on Tuesday morning, to charge Blue and White party leader Benny Gantz with the task of trying to muster a coalition that can win a Knesset majority. Blue and White said it was determined to build a “liberal unity government” with Gantz at its helm. Gantz now has 28 days to try and do what Netanyahu could not. If he fails, any MK will have 21 days to obtain the support of a Knesset majority to form a government. If no one succeeds, elections will be initiated automatically — a third round inside a year after April’s and September’s inconclusive votes. At the end of May, after trying in vain for six weeks to build a coalition, Netanyahu called new elections rather than allow Gantz the chance to do so. Monday evening’s move to return the mandate to Rivlin followed repeated pledges by Likud that Netanyahu would not again dissolve parliament without letting his rival attempt to muster a majority. { foxbusiness.com } ~ Oil prices plummeted on Wednesday after new data showed an unexpected build in oil, gas and distillate inventory supplies last week – and that is likely another good sign for drivers... Oil prices plunged to their lowest level since June 13 – down five percent at times during the trading session. As of Wednesday afternoon, West Texas Intermediate Crude was trading at $51.17 per barrel – down more than 4.5 percent, while Brent Crude was trading around $56.35 per barrel. Brent crude is falling into bear market territory, nearly 20 percent off its April peak. And while inventories might have a short-term impact, an ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China is likely to continue to weigh on prices. Tensions ramped up over the past week as President Trump communicated his intent to impose 10 percent tariffs on the remaining $300 billion worth of goods coming into the U.S. from China. In response, China allowed the value of the yuan to drop to a more than 10-year low against the U.S. dollar – after which the U.S. labeled China a “currency manipulator.” “Demand for gasoline is likely to suffer not only because of the trade rift, but as summer closes, demand will drop,” Patrick DeHaan, a senior petroleum analyst as GasBuddy.com, told FOX Business. That means lower gas prices are likely on their way for drivers. As of Wednesday, the national average was $2.69 per gallon, according to AAA. That is down about 3 cents from last week, 6 cents month over month and 17 cents from the same time last year. While a handful of gas stations are already seeing prices sink below the $2 per gallon threshold – a continuation of the trade tensions could exacerbate that trend. “By Thanksgiving, I think we'll see sub-$2/gal stations spread to thousands of stations, mainly in low price states in the South, perhaps a few stations in the heartland and Great Lakes,” DeHaan predicted. It’s great, all right—for the politically connected. It’s costly for everyone else. The Renewable Fuel Standard, commonly known as the ethanol mandate, forces suppliers to blend increasing amounts of renewable sources into domestic transportation fuel each year. In the United States, the most common form of ethanol is corn-based. Soybeans are another common input for biodiesel. The Trump administration’s proposal would force more biofuels into the market regardless of demand. Let’s examine who that’s not “great” for. If you like paying less for food, the Renewable Fuel Standard is not great. The mandate diverts food for fuel, boosting crop and feedstock prices. Research from the University of California at Davis finds that increased demand for corn and soybeans due to the Renewable Fuel Standard drove up prices by 30% and 20%, respectively. The mandate also increases other crop and food prices because it changes how farmers use their land. UC-Davis economist Aaron Smith estimates a roughly 20% rise in wheat prices because wheat acreage decreased as corn and soybean acreage increased. Higher crop prices harm consumers multiple times over. Corn is a key ingredient for many foods and an important feedstock for animals. Some of the new weapons on display that day provide cause for serious concern among U.S. policymakers... China showcased its new stealthy bat-winged unmanned aerial vehicle—the Gongji-11. But more significantly, it displayed the new road-mobile DF-41 intercontinental ballistic missile and its submarine-launched ballistic missile, the JL-2. The DF-41 ICBMs are capable of striking the United States while carrying multiple nuclear warheads. The U.S., meanwhile, depends on nuclear delivery platforms that are in some cases 30-40 years old. China is nearly done with an across-the-board modernization of all its platforms. The U.S. does not even have a mobile intercontinental ballistic missile. But that’s not the worst of it. The starkest example of China’s new capabilities was its unveiling of its DF-17 hypersonic glide vehicle. These vehicles are capable of traveling at least five times the speed of sound greater than Mach 5. They use a standard ballistic missile booster at the outset but become a low-flying projectile for their second stage. They can be used to hit a target after the first stage’s ballistic reentry. Hypersonic glide vehicles are especially problematic because they are difficult to detect and defend against. Despite aspirations, the United States has yet to successfully test a hypersonic glide vehicle. Much of this has to do with the fact that the U.S. industrial base is not yet ready to begin producing these weapons. Conversely, the Chinese have thrown mass amounts of research and development money into hypersonics and prioritized their production. Two Illegal MS-13 Gang Members Accused

Rudy Osvaldo Garcia-Hernandez, a 28-year-old illegal alien, and Carlos Orlando Iraheta-Vega, a 20-year-old illegal alien, have each been charged with murdering 16-year-old Juan Carlos Con Guzman in King County, Washington — a sanctuary jurisdiction that shields criminal illegal aliens from deportation.The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency confirmed to the Washington Times‘ Stephen Dinan that both Garcia-Hernandez and Iraheta-Vega are illegal aliens who were both regularly released from custody multiple times instead of being turned over to federal immigration officials for deportation.Garcia-Hernandez and Iraheta-Vega are reported members of the MS-13 Gang. The violent street gang, based out of El Salvador, has built a growing army of El Salvadoran illegal and legal immigrants in the U.S. According to prosecutors, Guzman was lured by the two illegal aliens into a remote location for a fight. Why They Hate Tulsi Gabbard

Brian Mark Weber: Note to Democrats: If you want to win your party’s presidential nomination in 2020, make sure you march as far to the left as possible — preferably off the cliff.

These days, any politician who doesn’t embrace the most radical elements of the Left’s agenda is disparaged and denounced. Democrats and their media brethren have been doing this to Donald Trump since he became a Republican, and now they’re going after one of their own.

Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat presidential candidate, Hawaii congresswoman, National Guard major, Samoan American, and Hindu is being portrayed as — get this — a Russian ally and a bedfellow of white nationalists. Why? Because she’s taken old-school Democrat stances on issues of foreign policy, drugs, and abortion.

That’s how far left the Democrat Party has moved.

Gabbard’s views on a range of issues certainly aren’t to be mistaken for Reagan-style conservatism. But compared to the rest of the Democrat field, she’s as American as Normal Rockwell. And this has apparently caused the media to smear Gabbard as a politician more at home on the alt-right than in the Democrat Party.

Swallow your drink first, but scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton likewise chimed in, “I think they’ve got their eye on someone who’s currently in the Democratic primary and are grooming her to be the third-party candidate. She’s the favorite of the Russians. They have a bunch of sites and bots and other ways of supporting her so far.”

Gabbard called such smears “completely despicable.”

Earlier this month, The New York Times lamented, “On podcasts and online videos, in interviews and Twitter feeds, alt-right internet stars, white nationalists, libertarian activists and some of the biggest boosters of Mr. Trump heap praise on Ms. Gabbard. They like the Hawaiian congresswoman’s isolationist foreign policy views. They like her support for drug decriminalization. They like what she sees as censorship by big technology platforms.”

Wait a minute. Haven’t Democrats always been big supporters of drug decriminalization? When did that become a right-wing issue? And leftists have proudly marched against every U.S. military endeavor since Vietnam, but now we’re supposed to believe they’re foreign-policy hawks ready to defend American interventionism abroad?

Of course, it’s not about principle. It’s all about President Trump. Whatever he supports, Democrats must reflexively oppose. “Regime change wars are just fine with most 2020 Democrats, so long as it allows them to oppose Trump,” Jack Hunter writes at the Washington Examiner. “The president’s recent policy in Syria is not unlike the anti-regime change stance Obama promoted as a candidate in 2008. The scumbag/liar-nObama/loose lips liar-Biden ticket won the White House by opposing Bush’s regime change war in Iraq and promising not to repeat that mistake (although they eventually did).”

Republicans aren’t going to storm Gabbard’s Capitol Hill office and ask her to switch parties, but there’s a dose of decency and common sense in what she says. And she’s not afraid to step out of line, which is no doubt why Trump supporters often like what she has to say. In fact, that characteristic is part of why Trump was elected in 2016. Like the president, Gabbard marches to the beat of her own drummer.

Reason’s Robby Soave writes of Gabbard’s Libertarian appeal, “Indeed, Gabbard was the only candidate on the stage Tuesday night to advocate a unilateral, immediate end to the disastrous policy of intervening in every conflict in the Middle East with the goal of changing the regimes. As she wisely noted, such schemes have backfired in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya, and likely would have backfired in Syria if undertaken there as well. Refreshingly, Gabbard called out both parties and the mainstream media for their complicity in the U.S.‘s foolish foreign policy interventionism.”

But she didn’t stop there. During the Ohio debate, Gabbard took a position that’s certainly to the left of most Republicans but still considered unacceptable by every other Democrat candidate. Responding to a question about states restricting abortion, Gabbard replied, “There should be some restrictions in place. I support codifying Roe v. Wade — while making sure that, during the third trimester, abortion is not an option unless the life or severe health consequences of a woman are at risk.”

Uh-oh, Tulsi. There goes the nomination.

In the minds of Democrats, taking the wrong stance on the military or drug enforcement is bad enough, but utter anything other than prostrate praise for the holy sacrament of “choice,” including government-funded abortion-on-demand, and you’re toast as a viable Democrat political candidate.

It’s sad to see one of our two major political parties destroy anyone who dares challenge their status quo. In the end, Tulsi Gabbard doesn’t have a chance of securing her party’s nomination, but her campaign has served America well by reminding the rest of us just how extreme the Democrat Party has become. And that’s good news for Trump in 2020.
