 GOP Sets New Year Agenda
As members of the 114th Congress take their seats Tuesday with the GOP in majority in both chambers, the Republican Party will begin the session by trying to approve the Keystone XL pipeline and changing the nObamaCare definition of full-time work to 40 hours a week instead of 30 -- issues that have bipartisan support. A House aide, who serves Republican leadership, told The New York Times, "The Senate will be ground zero," as the GOP still has to persuade four Democrats to vote with them to reach 60 votes to send legislation to Barack nObama's executive pen. Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN) wants to reform the failed educational policy No Child Left Behind, a move that would essentially reduce the federal government's meddling with state and local school boards. But while senators are anticipating a bipartisan political game and plotting governing moves, there is infighting in the House. At least nine GOP representatives will make a show of voting against backstabber John Boehner as House Speaker because he did not stand up to the president and agreed to fund nObama's executive immigration decrees until February.  Al Sharpton: Shakedown Artist
For years, it hasn't been enough for Al Sharpton to simply pontificate about racial issues. No, that's not how a 21st century race-baiter operates. According to the New York Post, the self-appointed spokesman on race issues has for years made a nasty habit of threatening American companies: pay him in money or power -- or else. "For more than a decade, corporations have shelled out thousands of dollars in donations and consulting fees to Sharpton's National Action Network," the Post writes. "What they get in return is the reverend's supposed sway in the black community or, more often, his silence. ... 'Al Sharpton has enriched himself and NAN for years by threatening companies with bad publicity if they didn't come to terms with him. Put simply, Sharpton specializes in shakedowns,' said Ken Boehm, chairman of the National Legal & Policy Center, a Virginia-based watchdog group that has produced a book on Sharpton." In other words, Sharpton is not a principled defender of civil rights. The only color he really cares about is green. More...   -The Patriot Post

NYPD Expands Protest of NYC Mayor
In response to allegations of police racism made by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, the city's police have turned their backs (literally) on the mayor at the funerals for slain NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos -- even when Police Commissioner William Bratton asked the force to respect the ceremonies. NYPD is also on a working strike, as the department has virtually stopped enforcing traffic laws, making drug arrests and, in the words of one NYPD supervisor, "only making arrests when they have to." De Blasio brought this backlash on himself with his outrageous racism accusations. But as Red State's Leon Wolf writes, the actions of the NYPD create a "dangerous precedent" if future politicians ever want to cut the bloated bureaucracy of government. There are other ways for the NYPD to petition de Blasio for a redress of grievances that do not endanger the public or disrupt a memorial to a fallen law enforcement officer.  Border Patrol Detains More Non-Mexicans Than Mexicans
According to the Pew Research Center, the number of Mexicans illegally crossing the U.S. border has dropped dramatically since the Great Recession. Thanks in part to the rise of unaccompanied alien children from Central America, the number of people detained by Border Patrol who are not from Mexico is now greater than the number of people coming from our immediate southern neighbor. Pew reports, "About 229,000 Mexicans were apprehended by the Border Patrol in fiscal year 2014 compared with 257,000 non-Mexicans during the previous year, according to recently published Border Patrol data. Taken together, total apprehensions of Mexican and non-Mexican unauthorized immigrants (more than 486,000) were up 16% over the previous year." Overall, the number of illegal immigrants is down from its high in 2000, when 1.6 million illegal immigrants crossed the border. nObama, so far, has inadvertently fixed the immigration issue because few people want to live in a nation destroyed by his economic policies. However, an upturn in the economy combined with his amnesty will change that. More...  -The Patriot Post

A Good Year for Gun Rights
In the aftermath of the horrific murders at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012, gun grabbers led by Sen. Dianne Feinstein pushed hard to enact "sensible gun control." Fortunately, at the national level at least, they were unsuccessful in restoring things like the ban on so-called "assault weapons." And even better, Second Amendment proponents were able to advance gun rights in several states. To name a few victories, Idaho, Georgia and Indiana expanded the number of places where concealed carry is permitted, Missouri now permits teachers to carry firearms and the Ninth Circuit Court struck down California's "just cause" concealed carry requirement. All this while more and more Americans are buying guns. Clearly, we should never let down our guard (see the UN's anti-gun treaty as an example), but there is reason for optimism as Liberty advances.  -The Patriot Post

Fallen US Marine’s Father returns nObama’s Condolence Letter
(By Tim Brown) - This past week, the US commander of NATO declared the end of the mission against the Taliban in Afghanistan. nObama followed up with a statement declaring... “Our combat mission in Afghanistan is ending and the longest war in American history is coming to a responsible conclusion.”  However, I want to take the opportunity to remind people of what Barack nObama has done that has resulted in the deaths of many of our men who serve in the armed forces. Steven R. Hogan, father of fallen US Marine Lance Corporal Hunter D. Hogan took the condolence letter he received from Barack nObama and wrote with his own hand the following:       http://sonsoflibertymedia.com/2015/01/fallen-us-marines-father-returns-obamas-condolence-letter-incredible-rebuke/

Major 11th Hour Victory for Israel at the UN
(By Jay Sekulow) - We’ve been raising the alarm about this dangerous resolution over the past few weeks. The nObama Administration was on the verge of abandoning our ally Israel...making noncommittal statements about its intentions to vote on the resolution. The U.S. typically avoids contentious votes on such outlandish resolutions strongly declaring its opposition, often avoiding a vote at all.  The nObama Administration’s confusing and tentative at best statements about this resolution sent a dangerous signal to the rest of the world that America may be willing to abandon its ally Israel.       http://aclj.org/israel/major-11th-hour-victory-for-israel-at-un

Oversight report finds major problems with DHS
(FoxNews.com) - The report finds that Homeland Security is not successfully executing any of its five main missions... “Ten years of oversight of the Department of Homeland Security finds that the Department still has a lot of work to do to strengthen our nation’s security,” Coburn explained.  “Congress needs to review the Department’s mission and programs and refocus DHS on national priorities where DHS has a lead responsibility.” Homeland Security spent $50 billion over the past 11 years on counterterrorism programs, but the Department cannot demonstrate if the nation is more secure as a result.       http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2015/01/03/oversight-report-finds-major-problems-with-dhs/

(bizpacreview.com) - Judge Jeanine Pirro lambasted New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio in her “Opening Statement” Saturday...on his reappointment of Judge Laura Johnson who, days earlier, released Devon Coley, 18, without bail after he made terroristic threats to assassinate police officers.       https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPX3PV3aoWU

Not enough votes to end the U.S. embargo on Cuba
(By Silvio Canto, Jr.) - Raúl Castro did not earn any goodwill with his speeches or arrests in Cuba since President nObama's announcement. On the contrary...Raul Castro's behavior is confirming that lifting the Cuba embargo without major concessions is very bad policy indeed. Lifting the embargo will require 218 votes in the House and 60 in the U.S. Senate. It's hard to see how Congress, specially a U.S. House with almost 250 GOP members, will agree to lifting the embargo without a bit more from Cuba than "Thank you nObama."       http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2015/01/prediction_not_enough_votes_to_end_the_us_embargo_on_cuba.html#ixzz3NqowssYb

Al Nusrah Front attacks Hezbollah position on Lebanese border
(By Caleb Weiss) - The Al Nusrah Front, al Qaeda's official branch in Syria, launched an attack on Hezbollah positions near the Syrian town of Flita along the Lebanese border yesterday...According to The Daily Star, a Lebanese publication, four Hezbollah fighters and five Syrian regime fighters were killed in the assault. The number of casualties on Al Nusrah's side is not immediately clear, but Reuters quoted Lebanese and Syrian sources that said "15 members of Al Qaeda's wing were killed." This tally is not confirmed and Al Nusrah has not released any information on its casualties. Hezbollah, which is Iran's proxy in Lebanon, has sent thousands of troops to Syria in order to assist the Assad regime. The group has fought alongside regime forces against various rebel groups, including Al Nusrah and the Islamic State. Hezbollah has also clashed with Al Nusrah and elements of the Islamic State over the border in Lebanon. In August 2014, the rival groups fought in the Lebanese border town of Arsal. A few months later, Al Nusrah and Hezbollah battled again in Lebanon, this time in Brital.       http://www.longwarjournal.org/threat-matrix/archives/2015/01/al_nusrah_front_attacks_hezbol.php?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+LongWarJournalSiteWide+%28The+Long+War+Journal+%28Site-Wide%29%29

'Race war' Democrat sparks brand-new black-white rage
(wnd.com) - Democratic state senator who has stoked previous controversy by referring to the “race war” in St. Louis in connection with the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri...
is under fire once again for her remark about “white privilege.” Missouri State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal reportedly said on Twitter: “LET ME BE CLEAR. When you exercise your #WhitePrivilege, don’t think I’m not going to remember. I will use it for the future. Uncomfortable?” That comment prompted stinging responses on Twitter, some of which suggested her rhetoric was racist and jeopardizing her future in politics.       http://www.wnd.com/2015/01/race-war-democrat-hit-over-white-privilege/

 The Unspectacular NOW!
(By Kevin D. Williamson) - Time is running out to do something stupid and irreversible. Act now! “Now,” especially when followed by an exclamation point, or written in all capital letters, or both — Now! — is the least conservative word in the English language... “We must act now,” proclaims a gentleman bearing the appropriately apocalyptic name of “Flood” in the letters section of the Times-Argus of Vermont. The subject is global warming: “It is unjust and immoral for us to leave a damaged and hostile world to our children. We need to act now.” From Flood to exodus: “Act now or homeless could move to San Francisco,” warns a writer in Chico, Calif., and I am just enough of a crusty old right-winger to wonder what the downside is for Chico in that case.       http://www.nationalreview.com/article/395637/unspectacular-now-kevin-d-williamson

A vote for Boehner is vote for nObama
(Joseph Farah) - Tomorrow 247 Republicans will determine who the next House speaker will be. The speaker of the House is the second most powerful position in Washington...If there is to be any meaningful opposition to Barack nObama’s agenda in his last two years in office, it will require the House speaker to provide it. It’s as simple as this, now that Rep. Louie Gohmert, an honest, straightforward, principled conservative, has thrown his hat into the ring: Who would provide better leadership of the House – Boehner or Gohmert?       http://www.wnd.com/2015/01/a-vote-for-boehner-is-vote-for-obama/
nObamacare's Annus Horribilis
Michelle Malkin

(frontpagemag.com) - There's no candy coating the truth: nObamacare has had a very terrible, horrible, crappy, none-too-happy year. What it really means is that the victims of nObamacare -- taxpayers, health care consumers, health care providers, employers and employees -- have had a hellish, nightmarish 2014.

Let's start with premiums. President Candy Land promised that he'd "lower premiums by up to $2,500 for a typical family per year." But premiums for people in the individual market for health insurance have spiked over the last year. In fact, Forbes health policy journalist Avik Roy and the Manhattan Institute analyzed 3,137 counties and found that individual market premiums rose an average of 49 percent.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services itself admitted this month that average premiums will rise at least five percent for the lowest-cost plans offered by federal nObamacare health care exchanges. Democrats' reaction? nObamacare rate shock doesn't matter ... because government is redistributing the burden and taxpayers are footing the bill! HHS crowed this week that nearly 90 percent of exchange enrollees received public subsidies in order to pay their premiums.

"Affordable" doesn't mean what White House truth-warpers says it means -- just like everything else they've spewed about the doomed federal takeover of health policy in America.

As the White House tries to hype year-end enrollment numbers and hide nObamacare-imposed cancellations, just remember that the administration got caught this fall cooking the books by including 380,000 dental plan subscribers that have never been counted before. Innocent oopsie? The "erroneous" inflation just happened to push the nObamacare enrollment figures over the president's 7 million goal, while fudging the attrition of more than 1 million enrolled in nObamacare medical insurance plans.

A "mistake was made," HHS 'fessed up after GOP investigators discovered the Common Core math antics. Lying liars. Caught red-handed.

So, how about: "If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor?" Well, not if he or she isn't practicing anymore. After scoffing at conservative warnings for years that socialized medicine-light would create doctor shortages, nObamacare cheerleaders can no longer whitewash the grim reality. The Physicians Foundation found that 81 percent of doctors believe they are "either overextended or at full capacity." Another 44 percent said they "planned to cut back on the number of patients they see, retire, work part-time or close their practice to new patients."

Analysts on all sides of the debate agree that massive cuts in Medicaid payments to primary care doctors, which take effect on Jan. 1, will reduce patient access. Meanwhile, a Commonwealth Fund survey found that 26 percent of American adults waited six days or more to see a doctor -- with only Canada and Norway performing worse. A separate physicians' staffing company's poll, reported by the left-wing New York Times, found that patients "waited an average of 29 days nationally to see a dermatologist, 66 days to have a physical in Boston and 32 days for a heart evaluation by a cardiologist in Washington."

Translation: If you like your doctor, it doesn't mean you'll get to see your doctor. Tick, tick, tick.

How about nObama's pledge to lower costs? A Congressional Budget Office reported earlier this year that implementation will cost taxpayers $2 trillion over the next decade. That's just the direct costs. nObamacare's job-killing regulations continue to discourage businesses from expanding and force more bosses to slash hours to avoid the employer mandate.

Based on estimates by Harvard and University of Chicago economists, health care policy analyst John Goodman concludes that the "indirect cost to the economy ... equals more than $8,000 per household per year -- or four times the size of the direct budget outlays."

This includes the tax on innovation. As I've reported over the last four years, nObamacare's reviled medical-device tax has forced companies to cut back on research and development, in addition to catalyzing layoffs of at least 33,000 workers over the past year. A recent study by the New York Federal Reserve found that half of the state's medical device manufacturers were bracing for "considerably" higher health care costs as a result of nObamacare rules. These include "higher deductibles, increased copays, higher out-of-pocket maximums and an increased employee contribution to the premium."

Who's "stupid" now? The fallout from intrepid Philadelphia investment adviser and citizen researcher Rich Weinstein's exposure of nObamacare architect/deceiver Jonathan Gruber has only just begun. Far worse than Gruber's insult of American voters, Weinstein notes, is the annual $250 billion tax grab at the heart of Gruber and Company's scheme. nObamacare's so-called "Cadillac tax" on expensive health plans was purposely "mislabeled," Gruber said in video uncovered by Weinstein, in order to pass a tax that will eventually hit all employer plans.

Separately, insurers have been lobbying for a total taxpayer bailout of an estimated $1 billion in 2014. Meanwhile, beleaguered nObamacare non-profit "co-ops" that were supposed to lower costs have sucked up $2 billion in loans to date and hundreds of millions more in emergency solvency funding this year.

The worst is yet to come. Before the midterms, panicked and politically driven nObama bureaucrats delayed premium payment deadlines, high-risk insurance pool cancellations and onerous "meaningful use" mandates on health providers grappling with nObamacare's disastrous top-down electronic medical records rules. Those chickens will come home to roost in 2015.

One silver lining: A total of 16 Senators who voted for the federal health care takeover either failed to win re-election or declined to run for re-election.

Good riddance to them and farewell to nObamacare's annus horribilis.
