Dispute over Mideast nuclear arms ban torpedoes UN conference
(Louis Charbonneau) - UNITED NATIONS: A month-long review conference on the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty ended in failure on Friday after its members were unable to overcome disagreements on an atomic weapons ban for the Middle East, which the United States blamed on Egypt... After four weeks of negotiations at the United Nations on ways to improve compliance with the pact, there was no consensus among its 191 signatories. U.S. Under Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller announced there was "no agreement" and accused some countries of undermining the negotiations. Gottemoeller did not say which nations had tried to "cynically manipulate" the conference, though she accused Egypt and other Arab states of bringing "unrealistic and unworkable conditions" to the negotiations. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/dispute-over-mideast/1866754.html

43 dead in hours-long firefight on Mexican ranch
(foxnews.com) - At least 43 people died Friday in what authorities described as a fierce, three-hour gun battle between federal forces and suspected drug gang gunmen on a ranch in western Mexico, the deadliest such confrontation in recent memory... All the dead were suspected criminals except for one federal police officer, National Security Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido said. He said the officer died trying to help a colleague wounded in the shootout. Photographs from the scene showed bodies, some with semi-automatic rifles and others without weapons, lying in fields, near farm equipment and on a blood-stained patio strewn with clothes, mattresses and sleeping bags. Video obtained by The Associated Press showed federal police coming under fire and bodies strewn throughout a ranch. http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/05/23/43-dead-in-hours-long-firefight-on-mexican-ranch/?intcmp=latestnews

DC Synagogue Pres. nObama Delivered Nothing But Empty Words
(Jeff Dunetz) - President nObama visited the friendly confines of liberal Adas Israel Synagogue in Washington, D.C. on Friday and delivered a speech meant to reach out to the Jewish Community and other supporters of Israel... His two themes were that Israel should support the deal with Iran, and that he criticizes Israel harshly in public because he loves it so much. Forgetting for a moment that his stake could not be bigger than the people living in Israel who would be the first target of a nuclear Iran, the president ignores the fact that many observers believe that the Iran deal does nothing to stop Iran's nuclear program, and that the elements of the deal as he described has been disputed by America's partners the P+5 negotiations (Including Russia, China and France), as well as Iran. The president also forgot to mention that it is not only Israel objecting to the deal but some of our Arab allies were so upset at the framework deal and the direction of the talks that their leaders refused to join President nObama for the recent conference at Camp David. http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2015/05/president-obama-delivers-nothing-but.html?utm_source=The+Lid+List&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1a4d81a754-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_term=0_597b72c01c-1a4d81a754-291705165&goal=0_597b72c01c-1a4d81a754-291705165

Hilly Was Pushing For Tax Breaks To Benefit Clinton Library Donors
(Jeff Dunetz) - The AP revealed a new conflict of interest story regarding the Clintons. During the last year of the Bubba Clinton presidency... Hilly endorsed and tried to sell through an Administration plan to give tax breaks to private foundations and wealthy charity donors at the same time the Clinton Foundation was soliciting those same donations for her husband's presidential library released Clinton-era documents show. http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com/2015/05/hillary-was-pushing-for-tax-breaks-to.html?utm_source=The+Lid+List&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=1a4d81a754-RSS_EMAIL_CAMPAIGN&utm_term=0_597b72c01c-1a4d81a754-291705165&goal=0_597b72c01c-1a4d81a754-291705165

"This Guy is Bonkers!"
(Mark Steyn) - HUGH HEWITT: Did you see..? Ramadi not only fell, but the Jihadists have pushed out something like 10 kilometers beyond that. It appears as though Baghdad is encircled...
MARK STEYN: Yeah, I mean, it's incredible... The United States adopted a strategy that cannot win - these desultory, ineffectual airstrikes. It cannot win. So it embarked on a war that it could only lose. So this time last year when ISIS took Mosul, that was when America's back was turned. Then America assembled this 60 nation coalition and ISIS took Ramadi. So, in other words, instead of just rampaging in to a barren bit of territory, ISIS will be able to claim they defeated the Great Satan. And insofar as anybody reverses ISIS, it's going to be Iran. And it's absolutely incredible to me that the global superpower has embarked on a strategy that can only ensure that it is perceived as having lost to a rag-tag bunch of head choppers. http://www.steynonline.com/6969/this-guy-is-bonkers

Clinton appears to rule out US ground forces to fight the Islamic State
(Robert Spencer) - “But at the end of the thought process that I engage in … this has to be fought by and won by the Iraqis.” This assumes that the problem of the Islamic State is one that only involves Iraqis, and is simply a question of who should govern Iraq... Hilly is completely ignoring the fact that the Islamic State considers itself to be at war with the U.S. and the West, and has vowed to sow mayhem in the streets of this country. Ground troops in Iraq would be disastrous and self-defeating if they became another Wilsonian nation-building exercise draining this nation’s resources. But the Islamic State will not be beaten without them. Destroying it and getting out would set the global jihad back considerably. But it looks as if under our next President, the caliphate will continue to grow, and to plot to murder as many Americans as possible. http://www.jihadwatch.org/2015/05/clinton-appears-to-rule-out-us-ground-forces-to-fight-the-islamic-state

Only Five Republicans Voted Against nObama’s Trade Tyranny
(rickwells.us) - Only five Republicans voted against handing over their responsibility on trade deals and anything else that can be hidden inside of trade deals to the power hungry illegitimate occupant of the White House... Only five voted against TPP and against signing an 18 month blank check to Hussein nObama and the full term of whoever succeeds him, be it a Democrat, Republican, tyrant or man of the people. Every other irresponsible, treasonous sellout Republican voted based upon talking points, having never read a bill that is so bad it’s classified and being kept locked away from the American people and the press until after it’s too late to do anything to stop it. Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), the statesman from Alabama, who led the charge against the treason of Mitch McCon-nell (R-KY), backstabber John Cornyn (R-TX), Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and their merry band of thieves, was joined by four other Republicans, though not all shared his convictions. http://rickwells.us/only-five-republicans-voted-against-obamas-trade-tyranny-only-one-is-a-presidential-candidate/

nObama Warned To Stop Playing Politics With Defense Spending
(rickwells.us) - House Armed Services Committee chairman Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) had a message for Hussein nObama on Saturday, not to threaten to veto the $612 billion 2016 National Defense Authorization Act... He noted that the entire amount that nObama requested for defense purposes was approved, but that his additional requests for unrelated domestic spending should not jeopardize real defense funding. He noted the bill passed with overwhelming support in the House and has strong support in the Senate. Thornberry said in the weekly Republican address, “The House bill authorized exactly the amount the president requested to keep America safe, But he wants more money for domestic programs and he has threatened to veto the defense bill unless he gets it.” He added, “Look, we’re always going to have our differences, but it’s wrong for anyone to play politics with defense. The world is too dangerous, and the men and women who serve are too precious for that.” http://rickwells.us/on-memorial-day-weekend-obama-warned-to-stop-playing-politics-with-defense-spending/

Matt Drudge Attacks Treasonous Sellout Republicans Over TPP
(rickwells.us) - Sometimes the situation in the United States government exceeds the now customary level of self-serving anti-Americanism to such an extent that the normally silent Matt Drudge is compelled to say something... The orgy of political prostitution that is taking place in Washington DC as Congress engages in the wholesale mass rape of our Constitutionand our nation crossed that threshold. Drudge had a few tweets targeting the harlots inhabiting the House and Senate regarding the disgusting way that they are conducting themselves and the people’s business. They are despicable traitors, something that Drudge also made note of. The following isexcerpted from Breitbart.com. http://rickwells.us/matt-drudge-attacks-treasonous-sellout-republicans-over-tpp-the-bi-partisan-commie-fix-is-in/

Kleptocrat and Washington DC Insider Hilly Clinton
(rickwells.us) - The career kleptocrat, Hilly Clinton, was in Iowa actually addressing the nation, referring to herself as being in Washington... As an ingrained part of the political establishment regardless of where she happens to be located at any particular moment, Clinton is Washington and she’s emblematic of what is wrong with our system. She is the embodiment of the political sewer that is the Washington DC political oligarchy. She sees things differently, though. She’s going to need a shower after coming into contact with the New Hampshire peasants. Some might view it as Clinton misspeaking. In the context of who and what she is, she spoke correctly, which leads to another, more revealing and potentially more problematiccomponent of the corrupt former Secretary of State, presidential candidate, Senator and first wife’s statement. At least four questions are begging to be asked in response to this one short sentence. How stupid are Democrat voters, has she no shame, and is there no limit to her corruption and her pandering? We already know the answers. It’s no wonder she avoids the media like the plague. http://rickwells.us/kleptocrat-and-washington-

The summit that wasn't

(jewishworldreview.com) - I'd venture to guess that most of what you heard about President nObama's summit last week was wrong. To start, it wasn't a "summit." That term, coined by Winston Churchill, implies a meeting of heads of government. However, the most important Arab leader invited by Mr. nObama, King Salman of Saudi Arabia, stayed home, as did the rulers of the United Arab Emirates and Oman. King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa of Bahrain decided his time could be spent more productively at the Royal Windsor Horse Show outside London..
You also may have heard that the reason the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) didn't attend was that they were put off by the prospect of international travel. Trust me: Flying in one's own customized jet is a lot less wearying than going coach.

It is true that by not showing up they were making a statement. But to say they "snubbed" the president, as several commentators did, is imprecise. They were demonstrating not disdain but distrust: They know Mr. nObama wants to convince them that the agreement he's bending over backward to conclude with the Islamic Republic of Iran will help stabilize a Middle East that grows more chaotic by the day. They're not buying it. So they sent envoys empowered only to say: "Thank you, Mr. President. I will convey your views to His Majesty."

Negotiations with Iran were intended to prevent the world's leading sponsor of terrorism from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability. At this point, they are veering toward providing Iran's rulers with two paths to that capability: a slow but sure one if they abide by the agreement's stipulations; a faster one if they violate their obligations - as they have in the past.

Whatever Iran does get under the agreement, the Saudis "will want the same," as Prince Turki al Faisal, the former Saudi intelligence chief, acknowledged a few months ago. The Saudis can develop their own nuclear weapons program or they can purchase nukes - probably from Pakistan, which decades ago developed its own nuclear weapons thanks to Saudi largesse. The Sunday Times of the United Kingdom is now reporting that Saudi officials have already made that "strategic decision."

Others in the region - the United Arab Emirates, the Turks, the Egyptians - are likely to follow suit. The result will be a "nuclear cascade," which means the death of the nuclear nonproliferation movement. The irony here should not go unremarked: In 2009, not long after he had moved into the White House, Mr. nObama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his "vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons."

A second justification for the Nobel Prize was Mr. nObama's "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between people." In this regard, he has succeeded in an unexpected way: When it comes to the threat posed by Iran, the Saudis and other Arab countries have found common ground with Israel.

They all grasp what Mr. nObama will not: Iran is ruled by self-proclaimed religious revolutionaries who prefer power to peace, who command an expanding empire that already reaches deep into Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen (with weapons and money being sent to Hamas so it can launch more wars against Israel from Gaza), and who aim to weaken and ultimately defeat their neighbors - Sunni and Jewish alike.

.
An additional unintended consequence of Mr. nObama's Middle East policies: The Saudis and other Arab rulers are now being incentivized to resume (or, in some cases, increase) their support of Sunni jihadis. The logic is not hard to grasp: If Iran is about to become militarily stronger, with tens of billions of dollars awarded as a nuclear agreement "signing bonus," it makes sense to back forces willing to fight and, perhaps, contain Iran. That's good news for al Qaeda and the Islamic State; bad news for just about everyone else.

Indeed, even as the not-quite-a-summit was proceeding without him, King Salman was meeting with extremist clerics, the kind American diplomats have for years been asking the royal family to marginalize. Foundation for Defense of Democracies Senior Fellow David Weinberg has reported that one of the preachers the Saudi monarch graced with his presence advocates slavery and preaches that the Islamic State is a creation of Zionists and "crusaders". Another calls homosexuality an affliction that "seeks to strip man of his humanity" and "darkens and covers the soul."

As Mr. nObama's Gulf visitors were preparing to depart, a joint statement was issued. One prominent Washington pundit called it "surprisingly upbeat," asserting that it gave the Arab nations an "unequivocal" American commitment to "deter and confront" any future aggression from Iran. I'd argue that, au contraire, the statement was mainly boilerplate and blather.

One example: The United States and the Gulf Cooperation Council expressed their "shared recognition that there is no military solution to the region's armed civil conflicts, which can only be resolved through political and peaceful means." The carnage in Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya and the Sinai are going to be ended through "political and peaceful means"? Really?

Another example (one that might seem to contradict the above): Mr. nObama promised that in the event of "aggression" or even "the threat" of aggression, the United States "stands ready to work with our GCC partners to determine urgently what action may be appropriate, using the means at our collective disposal, including the potential use of military force, for the defense of our GCC partners." Does that sound like an "unequivocal" American commitment? Or does it sound like a jumble of diplomatic weasel words?

I think I know how it was read by most Arabs. In Tehran, however, I'd venture to guess it came across as enormously reassuring and rather amusing.
