by Media Editors: President Donald Trump is reportedly leaning toward tolerating this week’s budget deal — a House vote is slated for Thursday — but that doesn’t mean he’s acquiescing to the deal’s lackluster allocation of border-barrier funding. According to The Daily Caller, “Trump said Tuesday that he is ‘looking over all aspects’ of the border security deal dreamed up by a bipartisan congressional committee to avoid another partial government shutdown.” Marc Thiessen proposes utilizing the sequester.

“The national debt surpassed $22 trillion for the first time on Tuesday, a milestone that experts warned is further proof the country is on an unsustainable financial path that could jeopardize the economic security of every American,” USA Today reports. The piece editorializes that “the national debt has been rising at a faster rate following the passage of President Donald Trump’s $1.5 trillion tax-cut package,” but runaway entitlement and welfare programs are and will continue to be the primary driver of debt, which, unfortunately, neither party will address. Erick Erickson rightly says, “More so than climate change, the national debt is a national security issue.”

Bipartisanship and conservation are good, but when is enough federal land enough? “The Senate on Tuesday passed the most sweeping conservation legislation in a decade, protecting millions of acres of land and hundreds of miles of wild rivers across the country and establishing four new national monuments honoring heroes including Civil War soldiers and a civil rights icon. The 662-page measure, which passed 92 to 8, represented an old-fashioned approach to dealmaking that has largely disappeared on Capitol Hill.” (The Washington Post)

The new governor of California, Democrat Gavin Newsom, is partially diverting from his predecessor’s agenda by constraining high-speed rail. This week he stated, “Let’s be real. The project, as currently planned, would cost too much and take too long. There’s been too little oversight and not enough transparency. Right now, there simply isn’t a path to get from Sacramento to San Diego, let alone from San Francisco to L.A.” He’s right, but the decision is also antithetical to the Democrat Party’s “Green New Deal.”

“After two years and 200 interviews, the Senate Intelligence Committee is approaching the end of its investigation into the 2016 election, having uncovered no direct evidence of a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia,” NBC News reports. Yet “House Democrats plan a vast probe of President Trump and Russia — with a heavy focus on money laundering — that will include multiple committees and dramatic public hearings, and could last into 2020,” Axios reveals. No matter how many times they fail, Democrats will keep hunting for a crime.

More scumbag-Comey corruption: “Over two years after the fact, newly released FBI emails obtained via a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request confirm that scumbag-James Comey’s FBI attempted to work out a quid pro quo deal with the scumbag/liar-nObama State Department to help minimize the scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton private email server scandal just weeks before the 2016 election.” (The Daily Wire)

Troll level: Master: “Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Tuesday that the Senate will vote on the Green New Deal resolution,” National Review reports. “‘I’ve noted with great interest the Green New Deal. And we’re going to be voting on that in the Senate. Give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel about the Green New Deal,’ McConnell said with a sly smile during a Tuesday press conference.” Ironically, its sponsors fiercely object.

According to CBS Miami, New York Gov. Andrew evil-Cuomo “blamed budget shortfalls on the state of Florida. He said New Yorkers are fleeing to the sunshine state to save big time on taxes.” Census Bureau data affirms this. American Legislative Exchange Council chief economist Jonathan Williams, in a piece titled “Americans continue their march to low-tax states,” says, “Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Arizona led the way this past year in overall population growth as a percentage of population. Once again, Texas and Florida were the big winners in overall population gains, with the Lone Star State gaining more than 379,000 residents from 2017-18 and the Sunshine State posting a gain of more than 322,000. The big net losers from the report were New York, which lost a total of 48,510 residents, and Illinois, which lost 45,116.”

There is noteworthy disapproval in New York regarding Gov. Andrew evil-Cuomo’s abortion fixation. Current polling shows that his approval rating is at a career-low 43% — a month-over-month drop of eight percentage points. Even worse, his “excellent” or “good” performance rating is at a paltry 35%, whereas 64% of respondents call his performance “fair” or “poor.” Tony Perkins says, “Contrast that with President Trump, who, after doubling down on the culture of life, is enjoying the highest approval rating (52 percent) since 2017.” (The Federalist)

Following 35 hours of deliberations by a Brooklyn federal jury, former drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman “now faces life in a maximum-security federal prison,” the New York Post reports. El Chapo was a serial prison escapee in Mexico who raked in billions of dollars via drug trafficking. Sen. Ted Cruz recommends funneling that money toward a border barrier.

Policy: “The Social Security 2100 Act doesn’t live up to the rhetoric,” Andrew Biggs contends in National Review. Read more on “Why Social Security Expansion May Stiff the Poor.”

Policy: “Twenty-nine states have reformed their civil-forfeiture laws since 2014. Fifteen states now require a criminal conviction for most or all forfeiture cases. And the recent skirmish over forfeiture laws here in Mississippi — a ‘law and order’ state by any measure — illustrated that the voting public does not believe there is a contradiction between upholding due process and enforcing the law.” (National Review)

The law states if these are paid for, the money must come directly from the promoted candidate to the other campaign. But that’s not how this was working. If the reports are correct, money was being funneled through various organizations before finally ending up in scumbag/mad-Waters’ bank account. And there’s more: Some of the money paid was actually sent to scumbag/mad-Waters’ daughter, Karen. In all, it is believed roughly $1 million was paid directly to Karen scumbag/mad-Waters...

In an essay, she cited a Gallup poll stating that “among Democrats, Democratic-leaning independents—and, perhaps most significant... among all American adults under 30—socialism is now viewed more positively than capitalism.” Look around and you can see essays in papers of record praising the sex lives of East German women failing to mention that they probably had to do it with a Soviet soldier in a back alley for a loaf of bread, and the idea that taxing billionaires would help make a society where there’s no inequality, and where everyone has not just a means but a “right” to a guaranteed satisfactory life and minimum income, health care, and education. Oh, and there are also free unicorns at the end of each red rainbow. Almost determined prove her point, within a few months of that essay the darling of the Anglo-American left, Rep. commie-Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, took out the structural plan for the much-vaunted Green New Deal, which might be better described as a neo-Maoist Green Leap Forward, and it is comedy gold. The details are for everyone to see, for as long as they are online, which, going by the interminable mockery, won’t be for much longer. The deal wants to eliminate air travel altogether. That logically entails more than 500,000 job losses in the air transport sector. It also wants green energy refitting in “every single” American home, and to ban “non-essential personal transport” a.k.a. cars in favor of public transport. Consider entire energy sectors simply eliminated by government diktat, alongside the logistical nightmare of annexing and disposing of millions of personal cars. Entire auxiliary industries annihilated for the “greater good of humanity,” in a utopian zeal, without any actual plan on how to do it, or who would pay for it, or what would be the sudden alternative for millions of people out of livelihoods working in the automobile sector and other industries dependent on it...

Phony 'Justice' through Phony Climate Policy

{americanthinker.com} ~ Would you be surprised to learn that of the five goals pronounced in the so-called “Green New Deal,” three of them focus on some form of social or economic “justice?”... Or that the two that don’t instead use language right out of the UN’s globalist playbook? Well, they do, and, if you’ve been paying attention, you shouldn’t be all that surprised. Indeed, the convergence of climate “science” and social “justice” is nothing new. Some argue that it dates back to 1972, when an unlikely blend of legitimate environmental activists, dyed-in-the-wool Marxists, and assorted anti-establishment 60’s leftovers met in Stockholm, Sweden to discuss the planet’s ills. And from that marriage of global environmental and social-justice concerns was born the IPCC’s parent organization – the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and its socialist-environmentalist manifesto – the Stockholm Declaration. Others point to the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro a.k.a. the Earth Summit. There, the event’s Secretary-general, Maurice Strong, told the opening session that industrialized countries had “developed and benefited from the unsustainable patterns of production and consumption which have produced our present dilemma.” Yes, this was the gathering which spawned the infamous Agenda 21 [PDF], a global contract that pledged governments around the world to a UN plan to change the way people "live, eat, learn and communicate" all in the name of "saving the earth” from mankind’s mistakes, particularly global warming. Most of the Hamas men who were killed during the violence belonged to the group's military wing, Izaddin al-Qassam. Others belonged to the military wing of another terrorist group, Islamic Jihad. It is worth noting that the Hamas and Islamic Jihad members who were killed while participating in the violence near the Gaza-Israel border did not come there dressed in military uniforms or carrying their weapons. Instead, the Hamas and Islamic Jihad men participated in the weekly protests dressed in civilian clothes. They pretended they were ordinary and innocent civilians protesting against the economic crisis in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip. Later, however, Hamas was forced to admit that dozens of its members were killed in the first three months of the protests near the border. Salah Bardaweel, a senior Hamas official in the Gaza Strip, revealed in May 2018 that at least 50 Hamas members were killed during the violent demonstrations, which had begun two months earlier. Hamas was also forced to admit that most of the victims were "fighters" after their identities were revealed by their families and by hospitals in the Gaza Strip. Fact-Checking the Leftmedia

by Lewis Morris: One of the primary responsibilities of the news media in our republic is to keep elected officials honest — to investigate and expose malfeasance and corruption and shine the light of truth on those who would abuse their power and betray the public trust. To carry out this charge, though, journalists need to be nonpartisan and dispassionate of everything except the welfare of the citizenry. They also need to be informed, curious, and willing to go the extra mile for the truth.

Our modern news media has failed spectacularly in this regard.

There is debate about why the media today is one of the most distrusted establishments in America. Some blame the corporatization of the news media. Others fault academia for churning out brainwashed leftist mouthpieces disguised as journalists. Everyone seems to blame social media to some degree.

Whatever the cause, and all the above reasons surely play some role, today’s news media has proven itself to be out of synch with the needs of the American public and totally incapable of doing the job the public expects. To be sure, there are some individual reporters and some news outlets that are doing good, or at least better, journalistic work. Unfortunately, these are too few and far between to save the downward spiral of American journalism as an institution.

The liberal bent of the news media was an open secret for decades, becoming more pronounced in the 1990s when acolytes of scumbag/liar-Bill and scumbag/liar-Hillary Clinton repeatedly turned a blind eye to his sexual indiscretions and their downright illegal dealings. The sheer leftward tilt of the media grew worse, to the point that Barack scumbag/liar-nObama was treated like a leftist messiah in the news while his “scandal free” administration committed untold numerous unconstitutional actions.

Now that Donald Trump is president, the news media has completely, and in some cases admittedly, jettisoned any pretense of impartiality. Over the last 15 years, we’ve seen the rise of “fact-checkers,” stand-alone websites or bureaus within existing news outlets that “check” statements made by public figures for falsehoods. They’ve gone into hyperdrive with Trump.

But these fact-checking sites are a complete fraud. Many of those that claim to be independent are backed by Leftmedia organizations, and for some reason, rarely seem to get around to fact-checking statements made by Democrats. When they do, Democrats mysteriously rank higher with the truth in their view. Gee, who’d have thunk it?

Rest assured that Trump’s State of the Union Address was given the full “fact-check” treatment. The problem that the Leftmedia had to get around was that Trump gave a good speech that was well received by the overwhelming majority of the public. It was also relatively free of Trump’s typical hyperbole and misleading details. Media propagandists had to find new ways to bend the outcome to their will.

Trump was attacked by Politico for claiming that one in three women, or 33%, are sexually assaulted while trying to come to the U.S. illegally. The actual figure was 31%. The New York Times claimed that Trump’s statement that illegal border crossings presented an urgent national crisis was false because illegal border crossings have decreased. This basically means that because the Times does not agree with Trump’s assessment of the situation, then he is “wrong.” NPR also went out of its way to state that Trump’s praise of the high number of women in Congress was thanks to Democrats, not Trump or the Republicans. Trump never took credit for the fact; NPR just wanted to make sure that the public was aware of it.

The media’s long and twisted lists of fact-checks of Trump’s speech did not sway public opinion. That’s supposed to be the job of opinion columnists, not reporters. But with major newspapers like The New York Times and The Washington Post, it’s virtually impossible these days to tell what’s an op-ed and what’s supposed to be news.

Today’s news media doesn’t much care about that, though. Outlets are so eager to print stories that demean Trump and anyone who supports him that they will publish anything. Corroborating facts, confirming statements, and using reliable sources are techniques for squares in today’s world. The media repeatedly pushes stories with great fanfare that soon die quiet deaths because they were nothingburgers that didn’t hold up to greater scrutiny.

Michael Cohen’s lie to Congress about a deal to build a Trump Tower in Moscow? Nope. That man who was stalking Stormy Daniels? Zilch. All those women that Brett Kavanaugh supposedly assaulted in college? Nada.

But the headlines took hold in the public consciousness, even if they had to later be retracted. Well, retraction and correction is another journalistic tool that went the way of the typewriter. Nowadays, the media just stops talking about screw ups and hopes that they go away.

Fortunately, things might be changing. Parents of the unjustly maligned Covington students are preparing a major lawsuit against media outlets and celebrities who made horrible accusations against Nicholas Sandmann and his fellow classmates. The parents are also accusing Google and Facebook of playing a role in the defamation of their children.

Social-media outlets have tried to steer clear of being considered news organizations, claiming that they merely share information from point to point. While they sure don’t mind censoring that information to make sure only leftist points of view get good play, they don’t want to be legally responsible for the content they spread. So far, Facebook, Google, Twitter, and other platforms have been able to have it both ways.

The media claims repeatedly that it’s under attack by Trump, but the trouble started long before he entered the Oval Office. Things started going downhill when news outlets stopped caring about the truth and started focusing on results — the chief result being supporting the leftist agenda.
