{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ No plan to stop coronavirus has been taken off the table, according to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar... The coronavirus, also known as the COVID-19 virus, has claimed the life of one U.S. citizen, and the infection has been slowly spreading in a few west coast states. Azar noted on Sunday that the threat to the general population is low but acknowledged that he would leave any option on the table, including a travel ban within the United States. “Right now, it’s important for people to understand, we're not advising any types of particular measures in the United States like travel restrictions or closures,” Azar told Face the Nation. “State or local public health offices, which are the front lines of response, might make their own decisions to do that, but at this point, we do not have sufficient spread in the United States that would indicate those measures.” He continued, “But we're not taking any of them off the table.”President Trump announced on Saturday the implementation of a travel ban for anyone who had recently visited Iran, where the virus has infected several of the nation's leaders. He also placed parts of South Korea and Italy, which are experiencing an outbreak, under a State Department travel advisory warning Americans against nonessential travel to those regions. A travel ban from China, where the outbreak began, was already in place. In a separate interview on Fox News Sunday, Azar also said the Trump administration remains open to utilizing its war powers ability to force companies to produce medical equipment for the government if a shortage of face masks or hospital gowns were to become a problem. “We can determine that our production should get to the front of the line, and so we go before any other contract that they might have,” Azar explained. “Right now, we are initiating the procurement processes for personal protective equipment. So that would be masks as well as gowns, gloves, etc.” Azar said he would prefer that companies volunteer to work with the federal government rather than using force to bump government contracts to the top of the line. He also explained that Congress must pass an emergency supplemental funding package before any equipment orders can be produced. Vice President Mike Pence, who has been leading the White House’s efforts against the virus, explained that the average U.S. citizen does not need to go buy masks and noted that the current supply in the U.S. is stable.

Pence warns of more virus cases in US,

{ thehill.com } ~ Vice President Pence said in an interview broadcast on Sunday that “there’s no question” there will be more cases of coronavirus in the U.S. ... but insisted the risk to Americans “remains low.” Pence said on NBC's "Meet the Press" that his assessment was based on “the confidence of all of our health experts who are widely regarded as the best in the world.” He also stressed that the "vast majority" of the Americans who contract the virus "will be treated and they will recover.” Host Chuck Todd, however, said that the fact that one person out of every 22 people to contract the disease worldwide has died is "not reassuring." Pence responded by saying “we’d be in a very different place” if President Trump did not suspend travel from China and establish a quarantine process for returning Americans. “The president has made it clear that this is a whole-of-government approach," he said. “We're going to bring the best scientific minds, experts together, and we're going to, we’re going to work every day to, to contain this disease, to treat those that are contracted," he added. "And I'm very confident we're ready, and I know, and I know that we’ll get through this.” Pence also said officials are working to find out how the first person in the U.S. to die from coronavirus -- an unidentified Washington state man in his 50s who reportedly had an underlying health condition -- contracted the disease. "The process, Chuck, is that state and local officials are in the lead, but in instances involving the coronavirus or any infectious disease, we have Centers for Disease Control on the ground immediately to assist and support. And they're working to identify it." Pence also suggested the administration would defer to local governments on decisions such as school closures...

{ jpost.com } ~ Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc of right-wing and religious parties remained on the edge of obtaining a blocking majority in the next Knesset late Tuesday night... after the Central Election Committee completed counting 4,251,835 votes from 10,552 of the 10,631 regular polling stations, some 99% of all polling stations. Among the votes that have already been counted, Netanyahu’s Likud won 36 seats, which together with Shas’s 10, United Torah Judaism’s seven and Yamina’s six would be 59 – two seats short of the 61 MKs needed for a majority.  Blue and White had 32 seats, according to the preliminary vote count, the Joint List 15, Labor-Gesher-Meretz seven and Yisrael Beytenu seven. Absentee ballots from IDF soldiers, prisoners, diplomats and other emissaries were to be counted Tuesday night. Special ballots of those quarantined due to possible exposure to the coronavirus who voted in special polling station will be counted in a tent outside the Knesset on Wednesday morning. The remaining three percent of polling stations are undergoing extra procedures to verify their accuracy due to various problems, and their results will only be available on Sunday. Legally, the final results do not need to be published until next Monday. Altogether there are some 400,000 votes that have yet to be counted. Only after all the votes are counted will calculations be made on vote-sharing agreements and application of the Bader-Ofer surplus-vote allocation system, which could both alter the final results. According to results from some 99% of the regular polling stations, the parties would receive the following number of seats, pending vote sharing agreements and application of the Bader-Ofer surplus vote allocation system...

{ thefederalist.com } ~ Coronavirus isn’t coming to the United States, it’s here. Even if its worst-case scenarios are never realized, the economic — and potentially political — pain will be massive... The skeptics are correct that coronavirus is unlikely to kill millions in the United States. We’re not looking at a lost generation. We are, however, looking at a lost spring and summer of travel, spending, gathering, socializing, and productivity. Combine that with the rise of a Democratic candidate who scares the hell out of Wall Street, and that recession we’re overdue for might come a little sooner and last longer. The most visibly hit thus far have been the stock markets, where investors the world over panicked as the Chinese and Italian economies screeched to a halt. Central banks moved fast to mitigate harm, and for the moment it appears to be working, with The Wall Street Journal reporting, “Stocks shot higher while U.S. government bond yields hit new lows Monday, with investors betting central banks can stabilize markets and shield economic growth from the impact of the coronavirus.” Unfortunately, the effects of the virus are already on Main Street, where they will very likely travel back upstream. First, there are the supply lines. China exports toys and snacks, but also plastics, electronics, medications, medical supplies, and other essentials. Swathes of its workforce are out sick and cities are on lockdown. South Korea, currently the second-most-affected country, exports many of the same types of products to the United States, albeit in smaller quantities. We know the virus can incubate for weeks in adults and evidence is beginning to suggest that while they are thankfully spared the impact, children can contagiously carry it a full course without exhibiting symptoms. India, Japan, Vietnam, and other major exporters to the United States, we can safely assume, are next. We have long operated in an economy that is massively and internationally interdependent while at the same time well-oiled and rapidly responsive. That’s in for a dramatic shake-up. It’s difficult to predict where supply lines will be disrupted and earnings will take hits...  https://thefederalist.com/2020/03/03/the-perfect-economic-storm-is-here-and-we-arent-prepared-at-all/?utm_source=The+Federalist+List&utm_campaign=1e6785a03a-RSS_The_Federalist_Daily_Updates_w_Transom&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_cfcb868ceb-1e6785a03a-83771801

Syria's Chemical Arsenal:
A U.S.-British Row over Assad's Weapons?

{ meforum.org } ~ In 2012, a year into the Syrian civil war, U.S. president Barack scumbag/liar-nObama and British prime minister David Cameron became increasingly concerned about Syria's large chemical weapons arsenal... They feared President Bashar Assad might use his weapons internally, transfer them to a third party, or lose control of them altogether. In August of that year, President scumbag/liar-nObama made his now famous "red line" statement, warning of "enormous consequences" if Assad were to use them. Cameron and other Western leaders publicly seconded scumbag/liar-nObama's warning. Later that year, reports of small-scale use of chemical weapons trickled in. The West failed to respond, and in August 2013, the regime launched a major attack on the Ghouta area east of Damascus, killing more than 1,400 people. A U.S.-led military operation against Syria's chemical weapons facilities seemed likely, and there were good reasons to believe that Britain would support its transatlantic ally in holding Assad to account and seeking to deter future chemical use. Yet events took an unexpected turn when Cameron—heading up a Conservative-Liberal coalition government—brought the matter to a vote in the House of Commons and lost, undermining the broader Western position and contributing to scumbag/loar-nObama's decision to refrain from launching punitive strikes. Since the end of the Cold War, London had stood side by side with Washington against the proliferation and use of weapons of mass destruction (WMD) in the Middle East and North Africa. From the disarmament of Saddam Hussein's Iraq following the 1991 Kuwait war to the more recent Iranian nuclear threat, Conservative and Labour governments alike had been dependable partners for successive U.S. administrations. The events of August 21-29, 2013, appeared to represent something of a break with this trend. So what explains this rupture? Washington and London's post-Cold War collaboration on counter-proliferation has been sustained and bipartisan on both sides of the Atlantic. Working together, the two allies disarmed the Saddam regime over a period of twelve years. They provided significant support to U.N. inspectors during the 1990s, and in 1998, the joint Operation Desert Fox struck Iraqi targets with airstrikes for four days...   https://www.meforum.org/60502/syrias-wmd-a-us-british-row?utm_source=Middle+East+Forum&utm_campaign=48b777d298-MEF_MEQ_2019_12_03_04_07_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_086cfd423c-48b777d298-33703665&goal=0_086cfd423c-48b777d298-33703665&mc_cid=48b777d298&mc_eid=f33b9e6c12

Mark Alexander  Starting the week off on the wrong  foot, after the first reported U.S. coronavirus deaths, The Washington Times’s editorial page editor, Ethan Epstein, published a breathless hyperbolic warning about the COVID-19 flu variant — a case study of Beltway media groupthink that promotes pandemic panic.

According to Epstein, “Americans have done so much screaming at each other to avoid panic over the novel coronavirus that they’ve arguably grown complacent.” (Tell that to the equities markets.) He then goes on to affirm the actions being taken in other countries: “China … has locked down tens of millions of people and virtually shut down its economy, the world’s second-largest. Japan has closed schools for a month. In France … the Louvre was closed. Switzerland … won’t allow gatherings that draw more than 1,000 people. … Two decades after 9/11, many Americans once again seem to think ‘it can’t happen here.’ But as we’ve learned more than once, it can.”

So, let’s shut the country down?

Will COVID-19 be the next catastrophic attack on America — “The BIG One”? As I have noted previously, it might be another bad year for U.S. influenza deaths, but nobody can actually project that right now. What is certain, however, is that the “pandemic fear and panic” are great political fodder for Democrats hoping to crash the U.S. economy … and thus President Donald Trump’s reelection.

As House Speaker liar-Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Senate Minority Leader Chuck scumbag-Schumer (D-NY), and their Leftmedia publicists continue to foment fear, it is having the desired dire consequences for the economy. By undermining consumer and business confidence, and thus the equities markets, Democrats are playing fast and loose with the job stability of all working Americans and their families. liar-Pelosi said, “The market drop is disturbing,” but I can assure you that she and her Democrat ilk are high-fiving each other in private, knowing that what is bad for American workers is bad for Trump’s reelection prospects.

The immediate effect of the disgraceful liar-Pelosi/ scumbag-Schumer fear and panic tag team is that the net worth and retirement plans of all middle-income families is taking a big hit, and so is breadwinner job stability.

To put the current viral flu threat into perspective, according to the latest 2020 CDC influenza report, in the U.S. the flu season we are now in has already resulted in 29 MILLION diagnosed cases, 280 THOUSAND hospitalizations, and more than 16 THOUSAND deaths. And this is a good year — in one year this past decade there were 63 THOUSAND flu deaths in the U.S.

So, why haven’t liar-Pelosi, scumbag-Schumer, and Democrats across the country called press conferences to draw attention to each of the other 29 million cases and 16 thousand deaths — and the MSM dutifully reported each one? Because those deaths have no value as 2020 political fodder.

Democrats are proficient at never letting “a good crisis … go to waste,” as they demonstrated back in 2014 with the Ebola pandemic threat. At that time I wrote, “Democrats thrive on manufactured crises, and the current endless loop of hyperbolic rhetoric about the ‘Ebola pandemic’ from all corners of the 24-hour news recyclers” was a good example. Of course, Barack scumbag/liar-nObama was president then, so blaming him was not part of their politicization of the epidemic.

But that was then. It’s a presidential election year and with nothing else to defeat Donald Trump, betting on a flu pandemic and blaming Trump for it seems like an easy sell.

Over the weekend, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney suggested that the best thing Americans can do to avoid the panic is turn off their televisions and tune out the Democrat and Leftmedia fearmongering. But that would undermine the Demo strategy. Thus Schumer declared, “For Mulvaney to suggest that Americans turn off their TVs and bury their heads in the sand when they’re worried about a global health pandemic is Orwellian, counterproductive, dangerous…”

And then there were the Demo campaign-trail claims that Trump had cut the pandemic budget. Mike Bloomberg claimed, “[Trump] has defunded Centers for Disease Control.” loose lips liar-Biden claimed, “[Trump] has cut the funding for the entire effort.”

Those claims are patently false. According to an  Associated Press fact check, Congress has actually increased funding: “The National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention aren’t suffering from budget cuts that never took effect.” Regarding scumbag-Schumer’s claim that Trump has no plan, the AP notes, “The public health system has a playbook to follow for pandemic preparation — regardless of who’s president… Those plans were put into place in anticipation of another flu pandemic, and are designed to work for any respiratory-borne disease.”

Adding to that nonsense was the erroneous claim that Trump had written off the coronavirus flu threat as a “hoax.” According to NBC: “Trump calls Coronavirus Democrats’ ‘new hoax.’” Politico repeated that lie: “Trump rallies his base to treat Coronavirus as a ‘hoax.’” In fact, what Trump called a “hoax” is that the Democrats have shamefully and grossly politicized the threat.

And predictably, the most ardent of the Democrats’ Leftmedia propagandists are the talkingheads at CNN.

Fox Business Network host Trish Regan called that what it is: “Diagnosis: Positive. CNN is infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome. I’m calling out CNN for irresponsibly politicizing something that should be a unifying battle against a virus that doesn’t choose sides. Anti-Trump network CNN doing whatever it can to stoke a national coronavirus panic.”

Of course, panic also keeps people tuned in — which is to say, it sells advertising!

As I have previously noted, to be adequately informed and prepared for what may be a bad flu year, the most current information is on the CDC’s page, “What You Should Know,” which provides updates, preventive measures, travel advice, etc. You can review the CDC’s national pandemic-response plan and basic citizen flu-prevention measures. And if you are interested in country-by-country data on the COVID-19 flu virus, that is being tracked at the Johns Hopkins coronavirus interface. For personal and community preparedness, visit our preparation and response resource page.
