Environmental Activists Are Blocking The
Clean-Up Of A Polluted Mining Site In Idaho
by DREW JOHNSON
{dailycaller.com } ~ Environmentalists are trying to block the cleanup of an abandoned Idaho mine that is leaking arsenic, antimony and other toxins into nearby rivers and streams... Mining company Midas Gold is seeking federal approval to resume and expand mining in the Stibnite Mining District. The area, which rests along the East Fork of the South Fork of the Salmon River in central Idaho about 125 miles northeast of Boise, is currently an EPA brownfield site. Creeks and streams near the site contain high levels of arsenic from careless mining that occurred decades before current mining regulations, modern techniques, or even the Environmental Protection Agency existed. As part of the mining plan, known as the Stibnite Gold Project, Midas Gold has pledged to restore the site by stopping erosion, cleaning up waste dumps and toxic pits, improving water quality, and reestablishing a salmon spawning stream that has been blocked by mining activity since the 1930s. But the private conservation effort will never happen if the Idaho Conservation League, Idaho Rivers United and the Nez Perce Tribe have their way. All three groups claim they want the area to be restored, but not if it takes a new mining project to do it. “Even with promises of restoration and reclamation, at the end of the day, Midas Gold is still a mining company, and their main interest in Stibnite is not to restore the site, but to mine it for gold,” the Idaho Rivers United declared in a recent press release. “It seems that ‘environmental’ groups are more concerned with being anti-development than they are with actually achieving success in cleaning up the current ecosystem problems,” said Willie Sullivan who co-chairs Support Stibnite, a group of local residents and businesses supportive of the Stibnite Gold Project and the restoration planned as a result of the mining activities. Sullivan lives in Yellow Pine, the closest town to the site. Yellow Pine is home to three restaurants, no gas stations, and, at last count, 32 year-round residents. The town, and the surrounding area, will see an influx of new jobs if mining resumes. The Stibnite Mining District is estimated to contain as much as 4.5 million ounces of gold and 50,000 tons of antimony, an element used in batteries, flame retardants and microelectronics. Antimony is found in the mineral stibnite, which gives the mine its name...

Standalone Nuclear Interim Storage
Amendment Sidesteps Solutions,
Creates Problems
by Katie Tubb
{ dailysignal.com } ~ As the Senate debates an expensive and wasteful new energy bill, Sen. Dianne Fein-stein, D-Calif., has proposed an amendment to launch a pilot program for interim storage of nuclear waste from commercial nuclear power plants... It’s a complex policy problem with plenty of nuance. But this amendment basically resuscitates the scumbag/liar-nObama administration’s approach, offers only a patch to a broken system, and removes an incentive to fix the real problem. The amendment has new traction thanks to the Trump administration’s recent arguments in budget hearings to pursue “innovative” approaches and walk back its previous commitment to finish the review of a long-term repository at Yucca Mountain as required under the Nuclear Waste Policy Act. The 1982 law requires the nuclear industry to pay the Department of Energy to build and dispose of nuclear waste in a permanent government repository, which the department was supposed to begin doing by 1998. It was the distinct concern of the then newly minted Environmental Protection Agency and others that interim storage not become a de facto permanent solution that distracted from this permanent repository. Consequently, Congress created a check in the Nuclear Waste Policy Act that tied funding for any interim storage facility to progress on a permanent repository. The Fein-stein amendment unwisely would alter that check. It directs the Department of Energy to create a pilot program “to license, construct, and operate one or more Federal consolidated storage facilities to provide interim storage” for nuclear waste from power plants that no longer have any operating nuclear reactors. There are 23 such locations. A “pilot program” usually signals there is something to be figured out or tested before going full bore. The Fein-stein amendment suggests three such items: licensing an interim storage site through the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, transporting nuclear waste, and demonstrating safe storage...

Pentagon sends more troops to the border
ahead of SCOTUS decision
By LARA SELIGMAN
{ politico.com } ~ The Pentagon is sending a crisis response force of roughly 160 troops to the southern border ahead of a Supreme Court decision that officials fear could prompt a new migration crisis... The Trump administration today said it would send the service members to two points on the southwest border — San Ysidro, Calif., and El Paso, Texas — to support U.S. Customs and Border Protection by placing temporary barriers and providing protection for border officers. The decision comes as the Supreme Court weighs a decision on an administration policy that forces asylum seekers to remain in Mexico as they wait to appear before a judge. The fear is that if the court blocks the restrictions, more commonly known as "Remain in Mexico," large crowds of migrants could seek entry into the United States. The troops are from the 687th Engineer Construction Company and the 519th Military Police Battalion, both from Fort Polk, La., according to the DoD. Additionally, the Texas governor has ordered the Texas National Guard to deploy troops from the 136th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade to the Brownsville area to do "quick reaction force training" in support of CBP. More than 5,000 active-duty troops and members of the National Guard are already stationed at the southern border to support CBP in securing ports and constructing the border wall.

Dems and Media See Coronavirus as
‘Impeachment All Over Again’ – And,
They Don’t Care Who They Hurt
By Craig Bannister
{ cnsnews.com } Democrats and liberal media are using the coronavirus in another effort to impeach Donald Trump, and they don’t care how many Americans need to suffer in the process... Fox Business Channel’s Trish Regan said at the opening of her Monday show. “Don’t kid yourself: they told us how much they crave a recession as a way to get rid of Donald Trump,” Regan said, citing the Mueller investigation and Ukraine-gate as examples of the indifference of liberal politicians and media towards the harm they cause in pursuit of their agenda: “We’ve reached a tipping point. The chorus of hate being leveled at the president is nearing a crescendo as Democrats blame him - and only him - for a virus that originated halfway around the world! This is yet another attempt to impeach the president. “And, sadly, it seems they care very little for any of the destruction they are leaving in their wake. Losses in stock market – all this, unfortunately, just part of the political casualties for them. “You know, this is the time to be united, not to be pointing fingers, not to be encouraging hate. And, yet, what do we see? We see the absolute opposite from the left tonight. “Good evening, everyone, I’m Trish Regan. The hate is boiling over. Many in the liberal media are using – and I mean, ‘using’ – coronavirus in an attempt to demonize and destroy the president...

Leftmedia Displays Dismal Understanding of Basic MathThomas Gallatin Why do so many in the mainstream media favor Democrats and their leftist policies? Well, a recent viral clip may help shed a little insight into their rational. In the video clip from MSNBC, program host Brian Williams is speaking with political pundit Mara Gay who referencing a social media post erroneously asserts that Michael Bloomberg could have used the $500 million he spent on his campaign to instead give every single American $1 million dollars and still have millions left over.
“Obviously, the math here is spectacularly off,” says National Review’s Charles C.W. Cooke. “If Michael Bloomberg had divided the money he spent on his presidential run evenly among Americans, we would each have got $1.53, not $1 million. For Bloomberg to give $1 million to each American, he would have to be worth $327 trillion (in cash), which, for context, is around 17 times American GDP and about five-and-a-half thousand times what he’s actually worth. The scale of the error here is galactic.”
This explains why so many Leftmedia “journalists” fail to laugh out loud and call commie-Bernie Sanders on his pie-in-the-sky plans like for Medicare for All and “free” college. The notion that simply taxing the rich more to cover the astronomical costs of these proposed government programs is so absurd that it takes the fantasy-math skills of Williams and Gay to believe it possible.
Furthermore, Williams himself earns in the neighborhood of $10 to $15 million annually. Based upon his mathematical computation, couldn’t he take just one year of his salary and make 10 to 15 million Americans millionaires?
But what about former Democrat presidential candidate Andrew Yang’s proposal to give every American $1,000 per month forever? It was a wealth redistribution scheme based on the dubious notion that future automation will eventually so limit the number of jobs available that it will be impossible for the economy to provide enough jobs to meet population demands. It’s not a novel idea, nor is it realistic or even possible, but many have bought into it.
Cooke observes, “If Michael Bloomberg were to try to achieve what Andrew Yang promised … he would be able to give every American about $183 in the first month before he’d have $0 left. To make it through a single month, he would have to be five times richer than he is. And, after that single month, even at five times his current wealth, his fortune would be completely and permanently depleted. Elizabeth dinky/liar-Warren’s unconstitutional wealth tax topped out at six percent. Filter Bloomberg’s money through that tax and you get $11 per American per year.”
To put it bluntly, the Leftmedia has absolutely no realistic understanding of how economics or wealth creation works. They simply want the elites in government to control it all and distribute it as they see fit.
