What would rock & roll be without Led Zeppelin? That was the question music lovers confronted on this day in 1980. The late 1970s hadn’t been a very happy times for lovers of real rock. The ubiquity of disco music had many music lovers feeling defeated (if not riotous). But there was still hope in the form of Zeppelin, the dominant act of the era, which fused hard rock and Delta blues into some of best songs ever recorded. The quality of their product wasn’t what it had been a decade before, but Zeppelin could surely still rock. When drummer John Bonham died of drunkenness in September of 1980, however, the band dropped its studio album and cancelled its planned U.S. tour. The loss of Bonham, the powerhouse who defined the band’s sound, proved too much. Thirty-five years ago today, the surviving members of the band announced their breakup in a letter to fans saying “we could not continue as we were.”

{gopthedailydose.com} ~ Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” while discussing the uncovered email showing Democratic presidential candidate Hilly Clinton had told the Egyptian prime minister that “we know the attack in Libya had nothing to do with the film,”... prior to telling them it was a YouTube video that caused the terror attack, Clinton said she did not lie to them but instead was caught up in “the fog of war.” When confronted by video clips of family members of Benghazi victims, Clinton said, “I understand the continuing grief at the loss that parents experienced with the loss of these four brave Americans. I did testify as you know for 11 hours and I answered all of these questions. Now, I can’t — I can’t help it that people think there has to be something else there, I said very clearly, there had been a terrorist group that had taken responsibility on Facebook, between the time that I, you know, when I talked to my daughter, that was the latest information, we were giving it credibility, and then we learned the next day, it wasn’t true. NY Daily News Lists NRA’s LaPierre Among American Terrorists
{Don Irvine} ~ The New York Daily News is stirring up plenty of controversy today with its cover that labels the National Rifle Association’s executive director, Wayne LaPierre... as much of a terrorist as the shooters in the San Bernardino attack and the gunmen behind other mass shootings. The cover, which features San Bernardino gunman Syed Farook and talks about his apparent Isamic radicalization, also includes pictures of the gunmen behind the Colorado Springs, Sandy Hook, Charleston and Aurora tragedies. When I think of what President nObama’s reasons might be, it scares me. He’s our commander-in-chief. My essential question assumed the obvious: radical Muslims wanted to kill us and were doing so by the thousands ever since 1979 when the Islamic Republic of Iran declared war on the United States in 1979. President nObama ignored our state of war when he authorized Secretary of State John hanoi-Kerry to negotiate a nuclear arms treaty with one of our biggest enemies. We’re not at war with Islam, insists President nObama. So did his predecessor, President Bush, but Iran, the most powerful country in the Islamic world, has long been in open war against us..

I began teaching about our state of war a few years after the Islamic Republic of Iran declared it in 1979. During the 1980s the war got little attention. It got more during the 1990s when suicide bombers were blowing themselves up in Israeli busses and restaurants. My job was to teach students what motivated them. They had to learn terms like: jihad, sharia, intifada, Quran, etc. After September 11, 2001 our war came front and center.
