A White House petition has been started by an Air Force veteran who once served in the intelligence field calling on Congress and other law enforcement authorities to arrest those involved in the FBI’s FISA surveillance of a former Trump campaign adviser detailed in a controversial intelligence memo.
The Air Force veteran, who writes for the Conservative Firing Line, agrees with Republican Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona who said, according to a report by The Hill, that the FBI’s surveillance of that campaign adviser “constitutes treason.”
Gosar said in a statement that he will co-author a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions seeking “criminal prosecution against these traitors to our nation,” referring to those who authorized the surveillance warrant.
The House Intelligence Committee memo, declassified for public release on Friday, claims that a dossier of information alleging ties between President Trump and Russia “formed an essential part” of the warrant obtained in October 2016 for surveillance on Carter Page. At the time, Page was not an adviser to the Trump campaign.
Gosar zeroed-in on the Republican memo’s claim that the surveillance requests to the FBI and Justice Department did not mention that the work of Christopher Steele, the former British spy who compiled the dossier, was funded in part by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee.
“This is third world politics where the official government agencies are used as campaign attack dogs,” Gosar said.
“In reading the released memo, I, an Air Force veteran, who served in the Intelligence field against the former USSR, do declare and demand that those involved with the false allegations and lies to the FISA court, that pertains to the infamous, Democrat-funded anti-Trump dossier, to be charged with treason, and arrested without due delay under Article III, Section 3, of the Constitution, where any person who levies war against the United States or adheres to its enemies by giving them Aid and Comfort has committed treason within the meaning of the Constitution, “betrayal of allegiance to the United States”, as such an act(s) has been shown that such an act has been committed. Arrest without delay with Federal charges of “treason”.”
When the Cold War started, the USSR was ruled by Stalin and the grim memory of the terror lingered in people’s minds: the midnight knocks, the denunciations and disappearances, the show trials; and the gulags, which held more than three million prisoners at their height.
Stalin’s control over Russia meant that freedom was the one thing that people lost. The people of Russia had to read what the state allowed, see what the state allowed and listen to what the state allowed. The state’s control of the media was total. Those who attempted to listen or read anything else were severely punished. Everybody knew of the labor camps and that was enough of a deterrent.
Russia had become a ‘telling’ society. The secret police actively encouraged people to inform on neighbors, work mates etc. and many suffered simply as a result of jealous neighbors or coworkers.
Also, many of Russia’s most talented people had been murdered during the purges of the 1930’s. Anyone with talent was seen as a threat by the increasingly paranoid behavior associated with Stalin and were killed or imprisoned (which usually lead to death anyway). The vast Soviet army was a body without a brain as most of her senior officers had been arrested and murdered during the Purges.
“Life under the KGB’s watchful eye where everything was bugged and citizens were followed constantly,“ said Anya Schmemann of the Atlantic.
“A small Lada would follow our car around the city and a man in a dark suit would keep an eye on us as we walked about. Our phones were tapped, our apartment bugged, our mail opened, and we assumed that our government-provided housekeeper filed frequent reports on us. Even our dog was enlisted — when we took him for walks he would run happily to our mortified minder, seeking the treats he was obviously used to getting,“ Schmemann stated.
In my opinion, what happened concerning the FISA memo that was released is the same thing the Soviets did to its citizens and it is time to arrest those involved and charge them with treason.
