Biden warns of 'real' food shortage following sanctions on Russia. 'The price of the sanctions is not just imposed upon Russia'
War in Ukraine threatens to blow US food costs sky high. Experts say American shoppers will begin to see higher grocery bills as the war in Ukraine threatens global food supplies.
President Biden said Thursday that a food shortage is "gonna be real" following the sanctions that were placed on Russia by the U.S. government as a result of Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion into Ukraine.
"With regard to food shortage, yes we did talk about food shortages, and it's gonna be real," Biden said during a press conference at a NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium, following a meeting with other world leaders.
"The price of the sanctions is not just imposed upon Russia," he added. "It’s imposed upon an awful lot of countries as well, including European countries and our country as well."
Biden said "Russia and Ukraine have been the breadbasket of Europe in terms of wheat" and insisted that he and other leaders had a "long discussion in the G7" about the need to "increase and disseminate" food production.

"In addition to that, we talked about urging all the European countries, and everyone else, to end trade … limitations on sending food abroad," Biden said. "And, so, we are in the process of working out with our European friends what it would take to help alleviate the concerns relative to the food shortages."
Biden's warning of a "real" food shortage and the impact it will have on America and European countries following the implementation of sanctions on the Russian economy comes after White House press secretary Jen Psaki said this week that Americans are unlikely to face a food shortage.
"While we're not expecting a food shortage here at home, we do anticipate that higher energy, fertilizer, wheat, and corn prices could impact the price of growing and purchasing critical fuel supply, food supplies for countries around the world," Psaki said. "And early estimates from the World Bank suggest disproportionate impacts on low and middle-income countries including in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia."

At the time, Psaki said the administration was working "with our partners in the G7, multilateral development banks, the World Food Programme, and the U.N. Food and Agriculture Organization to mitigate" food shortage impacts lower-income countries.

A Twitter account managed by the Republican National Committee highlighted previous dismissal from Biden over potential food shortages in America due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In May 2020, while taking aim at then-President Donald Trump during a virtual town hall, Biden claimed America did not have a food shortage problem.
"We don't have a food shortage problem — we have a leadership problem," then-candidate Biden said.
"We have plenty of food," Biden added at the time. "It's being plowed under. You've got-- you're euthanizing cattle and pigs. They're out there making sure that they're pouring thousands of gallons of milk into the ground. It's not a food shortage. It's a lack of leadership-- a lack of leadership."

Russia and Ukraine produce 25% of the global wheat supply, according to the Observatory for Economic Complexity. While neither of these countries export wheat to the U.S. directly, their absence from the global market is expected to strain supply and push prices higher.

How do we fix it?
We start by recalling the present government by Amendment... (elected and cabinet-level appointees) subject to new elections and appointments... Our 'Elections' must limit those aspiring to serve in government to one term in office (elected or appointed)... 6yrs in length, with 1/3rd standing for election or appointment every 2yrs. We retain the institutional memory of government without being saddled with the institutional proclivity for corruption. We do this by setting our representatives free from the need to raise funds and support for their reelection.
We break the back of the lobbyist, special interests, and major political parties... by removing any strings that come with the money and support our reps need when seeking office for additional terms. There will be no second term. Any quid pro quo given by candidates for office to political parties and lobbyists would be subject to the moral and ethical standards of the individual elected, not by the pressure associated with a need for continued service and employment. There will be no additional terms in office.
We need a Recall and Term Limits Amendment ... recall the entire sitting government, elected and cabinet-level appointees, subject to new elections and appointments. Deny any presently sitting member of the government a place in any future government. ONE TERM... 6yrs in length, with 1/3rd of the government standing for election and appointment every 2yrs. Creating an electoral cycle similar to the current US Senate's system for electing Senators. We must not permit second terms period... keeping our representatives loyal to their ideals and local constituents, by freeing them from the need to seek money and support for a second term. No more professional politicians Period.
The remainder of our problems will be quickly resolved by loyal citizen politicians, whose service is focused on the People's needs, not those of corrupt special interests or party leadership.

All of Biden's sanctions on Russia drive up the value of Russian oil and natural gas... they don't need to sell their energy products to the USA there is a huge world market clamoring for more oil ... China being a major contender for the consumption of Russian crude and natural gas products... there are the burgeoning economies in Africa and S. America that are ready markets for Russian crude and natural gas products.
The 'Artificial' shortages of crude and natural gas products created by Biden's domestic energy and foreign policy are crippling our economy ... as it struggles to recover from 2yts of mismanaged COVID Policy and the US Economy. Biden's domestic economic policy and his Russian foreign policy sanctions are directly aiding RUSSIA keeping crude and natural gas prices artificially high lines Putin's and Russia's coffers with windfall profits from BAD and what appears to be treasonous US Economic policy.
