Before you think this is a heartless article about filthy capitalism, keep reading, and you'll change your mind. I deeply sympathize with the impoverished and traumatized Ukrainian people, and I hope for a swift conclusion to the war. But once the war is over, America MUST spring into action and form a partnership with the new Ukrainian government, which will not only help the beleaguered Ukrainian people reclaim their dignity but also help pay back the hundreds of billions of United States taxpayer dollars infused into saving the Ukrainian people.
This is called: Economic Colonization.
While this may sound cold, the facts are that the United States and Ukraine have been drained, and soon it will be time to rebuild and repay. But in a bold and contentious step, the Trump administration has suggested the United States receive 50% ownership of Ukraine's massive, rare earth mineral assets.
This offer, reportedly presented to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during a meeting in Kyiv, is intended to allow Ukraine to repay the hundreds of billions of dollars in military aid and support provided by the United States since the Russian invasion began in 2022.
The key is the rare earth minerals, critical components of modern technology, including semiconductors, military equipment, and renewable energy solutions. Ukraine has enormous quantities of these precious minerals, much of which are still under Russian control.
President Donald Trump has highlighted that access to Ukraine's minerals is a question of national security; he expects the US to benefit $500 billion from these resources. He has presented this as a fair payment for American support, claiming that "security of rare earth" is critical given the United States financial and military commitments to Ukraine through economic colonization.
Bessent's proposed contract proposes the United States own half of Ukraine's rare earth resources rather than providing a direct financial payment. While this deal may help Kyiv avoid additional debt, it raises concerns about sovereignty and economic independence.
Look at it this way. If the United States owns 50 percent of the rare earth minerals worth approximately $500 billion’ through the process of economic colonization, then the United States will have to employ most of the Ukrainian workforce to mine the rare earth riches. This not only creates jobs and prosperity, but it also injects US dollars into the battered economy of Ukraine.
But it doesn’t end there.
The country of Ukraine owns the other half of these resources, so they not only benefit from the United States mining of these rare earths but also have a $500 billion reserve for themselves to harvest. At that rate, Ukraine would turn from a war-torn, destroyed nation into one of the wealthiest countries in the world, rivaling the wealth of the Middle East.
This suggestion has important geopolitical ramifications. The United States has proposed sending soldiers to Ukraine to protect mining industries if they strike a peace treaty with Russia. This represents a significant reversal in Washington's stance, as direct military presence in Ukraine has previously been avoided. Vice President JD Vance has warned that such a step remains possible if Russia fails to talk in good faith.
For Ukraine, the problem is reconciling the current need for US assistance with the long-term goal of national autonomy. This again can be answered through the process of economic colonization. For the United States, the deal provides an opportunity to develop a more independent supply chain for vital minerals while ensuring financial returns on wartime spending.
Final Word: How can Ukraine recover without the United States economic colonization? It can’t. If the United States can’t economically colonize Ukraine, then their recovery is already doomed, and it will be a matter of time before Russia will reinvade and harvest, as the United States sits by and says, Would have, could have, and should have.

Sounds like a brilliant solution on all fronts.

Good job!
Huzzah - sounds like a great solution!!
I completely agree, and would take it a step further.....we have first refusal of the other half of the rare earths, Ukrain cannot sell it to anyone else until we turn it down, and we'd be idiots to turn it down and let someone else have it. T American involvement could help clean up, Ukrainian politics.....as long as we have ours cleaned up.
I mentioned in another post that we should get out of some of Western Europe and move our military into some of the former soviet controlled areas...closer to Russia to keep a better eye on them, and to be better appreciated than we are in Western Europe. We could help Eastern Europe grow stronger, we would have partners who think more like us, with more similar values, work ethic, and appreciation of freedom. Level the playing field with the west, that would cut their horns back a bit.....the west needs a bit of a smack down.....they don't appreciate us enough!
I'm not sure Putin will agree, he is also after the same thing, and to walk away tale tucked wouldn't feel like a win even with Crimea and Donbas going to Russia. On the other hand, Puting is looking for a way to save face.
Agreed- reminds me of thelyingbitchofBenghazi selling OUR uranium to Putin; this could be a "payback" for US!
I'm hoping Trump is a good as I think he is! This could change europe for the better!
👍That make two of us and a LOT of others!
Good article Steve! Israel has been rescued several times by the US dollar, why not Ukraine!
Yup! There is nothing more powerful or desired than the U.S. dollar!
So I guess Ukraine will want to be ecomomically colonized by the US. Hell I would mind an little colonliztion in my bank account!
I'll take some of that colonization in my bank account!
