{ rickwells.us } ~ Lou Dobbs reveals that the DOJ has told Judicial Watch that it may soon provide information they’ve been in pursuit... of and that others have now joined them in attempting to secure regarding the marching orders of Grand Inquisitor Mueller in the COUP. The August 2nd 2017 Scope Memo, written by Rod Rosenstein three months after he had unleashed his attack dog on President Trump and his associates, without restraint, is expected to outline the parameters he was given for his attempt to remove Trump from office. Judicial Watch’s Chris Farrell says they’ve got to continue to press to have this document released because it “will unlock a lot of this Mueller special counsel operation. The public is owed an answer as to what his mission statement was.” Farrell recounts, “When we first asked for it, the Justice Department denied that it existed and we had to sue in October and they begrudgingly admitted that there was a scope or a mission statement.”...   https://rickwells.us/sessions-original-mueller-attack/.

President Putin had personally invited Prime Minister Netanyahu to participate alongside him in the events of Russia's annual victory day. Following the parade, the leaders attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in memory of soldiers of the Red Army who fell in the Second World War whose burial place is unknown. An honor guard was held at the site and the countries' anthems were played. But liar-nObama, Jarrett and hanoi-Kerry are now paying the price for circumventing the Constitution and the US Senate in signing an international treaty they claimed was something else in order to use semantics as a ticket to totalitarian conduct on their part and enrich and empower the totalitarians in Tehran. { politico.com } ~ As Sinclair Broadcast Group ramps up its plans to build a competitor to Fox News... the two companies are both interested in the services of a programming executive with a very notable distinction: close friend to Sean Hannity. Sinclair executive chairman David Smith has had multiple conversations with Sean Compton, president of strategic programming and acquisitions for Tribune Media, including one at SW Steakhouse in Las Vegas in April, during a conference for the National Association of Broadcasters, according to a person familiar with the meeting. Over their meal, Smith and Compton discussed show development for a three-hour block of news-opinion programming, according to the person. Sinclair’s proposed $3.9 billion deal for Tribune, Compton’s current company, is currently awaiting approval before the Federal Communications Commission. Many Tribune Media executives will be released from their contracts if the merger does go through, and Compton has also held talks with high-up Fox News executives, including Rupert Murdoch, chairman of the network’s parent company, according to the person. Another person inside Fox confirmed that Compton has been under consideration at the network for a high-level position—though it is not clear exactly what—and had meetings with top company officials...  https://www.politico.com/story/2018/05/08/fox-sinclair-hannity-pirro-conservatives-576212

hanoi-John Kerry Has Become An Enemy of the State

{ restoreamericanglory.com } ~ According to a new Boston Globe article, former Secretary of State hanoi-John Kerry is busily engaging world leaders... including the foreign minister of Iran – in a campaign of shadow diplomacy aimed at keeping the nuclear agreement intact. Well, the real goal is the preservation of his and, by extension, liar-nObama’s political legacy, but that’s beside the point. The point is that in an era where political experts on the left  were crying out for Michael Flynn to be charged under the Logan Act for engaging in this exact kind of whisper diplomacy, hanoi-Kerry is being treated as the hero of the republic. Are we saying that hanoi-Kerry should be charged under that outdated law? Not necessarily. But it’s there for a reason. And the reason is that we don’t need America’s allies and enemies getting confused about who is representing the United States and who isn’t. hanoi-John Kerry is no longer secretary of state. hanoi-John Kerry is not a part of the Trump administration. hanoi-John Kerry no longer has a professional interest in keeping the Iran deal alive. He needs to sit down and shut up. Because the more he tries to undermine the official actions of the United States government, the more he risks becoming more than just an annoying relic of the liar-nObama years. He risks becoming an outright enemy of the state. This is not to be confused with, say, politicians like Bill De Blasio heading overseas to pretend that he’s an emissary on climate change. Yes, that’s bad enough, but everyone recognizes it for the farce that it is. And even if it wasn’t, as the mayor of New York he does at least have SOME limited authority to engage in climate change diplomacy. We’re not sure if it actually accomplishes anything or was even meant to, but it’s fine with us if he wants to gallivant around the world and make believe that he matters. It’s a little sad, but that’s nothing new for him....

Voices in Support of Trump's
CIA Director Nominee
by Elise Cooper

{ americanthinker.com } ~ Those against Gina Haspel being confirmed utter the word "torturer" yet refuse to say "Islamist jihadist." They have a problem with her involvement in the enhanced interrogation program, but are willing to overlook the fact that she has been acting director ever since Mike Pompeo has been confirmed as secretary of state. If she is so horrible, how could they let her be in that position even for a day? The answer, according to 9-11 families, is that she was the shield that kept Americans safe during the turbulent times right after September 11.

David Beamer lost his son, Todd, after United Flight 93 crashed into the Pennsylvania countryside. He expressed the sentiment of all the other 9-11 families interviewed, supporting Gina Haspel as CIA director. "She has given the prime years of her life in service to protect us. Her performance, intellect, dedication, and skills have been recognized in many assignments."

His answer to those who criticize the enhanced interrogation program: "Unlike my son, none of the enemy died during interrogation. The plans that they executed caused the death of many free and innocent people, just as they intended, as much collateral damage as possible that was their objective. If some uncomfortable questioning leads to uncovering further attacks and lives saved, so be it."

Gordon Haberman concurs: "Our beautiful, vibrant, loving Andrea was subjected to torture. She was alive after the building was hit and then brutalized in a desperate attempt to escape the inferno. She was then ripped apart as she died. It haunts me till this day. I only hope she was dead before being dismembered in this manner. In seventeen years, they have recovered and identified eleven pieces of her. Do I worry about how those who perpetrated this act were treated after being caught alive and are still alive? No."

All those interviewed cannot understand why senators are so concerned about Gina Haspel's role in the rendition, detention, and interrogation programs (RDI). The families insist that those like Haspel helped to keep other Americans from horrifically suffering what they had to endure.

Tim Sumner, a retired U.S. Army soldier, lost his brother-in-law, Lt. Joseph Leavery, a heroic New York firefighter. His feeling: "Gina Haspel has served our nation with honor for thirty years. The EIT Program saved American lives. She deserves our thanks rather than being smeared by those with short memories. Al-Qaeda ruthlessly slaughtered 3,000 men, women, and children on 9/11. The implementation of the Enhanced Interrogation Program was not Gina Haspel's decision; it was the president's decision after Haspel's seniors at the CIA recommended its approval. It had been cleared by the Office of Legal Counsel and briefed to majority and minority leaders of Congress, to include the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, Nancy Pulosi."

Debra Burlingame, the sister of the pilot whose plane was flown into the Pentagon, thinks Gina Haspel is being unfairly blamed by some senators – especially since the RDI program was widely accepted by those on the intelligence committees. Interestingly the criticism started when it was politically convenient. "Senator Jay Rockefeller, the Democratic chair of the Intelligence Committee, was read into the program and never objected. Many do not know that he supposedly – emphasis on the supposedly – wrote a letter showing he had misgivings about the program. How convenient that he dragged it out years later after it was acceptable to criticize the CIA. What a weasel thing to do. The senators then and now understand that the CIA had to get the intelligence quickly, especially after it was confirmed that a second wave of attacks was planned. The RDI program, of which Gina Haspel was a part, worked."

To prove her point, she emphasized that Americans should reference the 2009 federal trial of Ahmed Ghailani, a senior al-Qaeda figure who after capture was brought into the RDI program. At the beginning of the trial the Justice Department of A.G. scum-Eric Holder and President liar-nObama had to write a brief. In it was a defense of the RDI program. The language used included that the program saved lives and that actionable intelligence was obtained. This proves that Gina Haspel was on the right side – the side to save American lives.

She noted, "I am not speaking out for my brother. He is gone, and I will never get him back. I am doing it for my fellow American's brothers. This is about the future, protecting our country from people who are cunning, intelligent, patient, and relentless. I don't see how these current senators can look at their children and grandchildren and vote against her."

Alice Hoagland, who lost a son, Mark, on United Flight 93, wonders why some Americans seem "to favor terrorists over the victims of terror. Since I live in one of the most politically liberal areas of the United States, I have met quite a number of such Americans over these past sixteen years, some whom I once considered friends. Like most who lost loved ones on 9/11, I have endured castigation in print, on the air, and in face-to-face encounters from those who flatter themselves that they occupy the moral high ground. Rejection is the price we pay for holding views that conflict with those of the entrenched liberal majority."

If Gina Haspel, one of the most qualified and capable people ever nominated for CIA director, is not confirmed, it is because some senators are more concerned with their political aspirations than keeping Americans safe. Beamer expressed the sentiment of many: "it is likely that the hearings to consider Gina Haspel for this most strategic position will be marked by partisan attacks, dirt-digging, and grandstanding. Sad that while most can spell civility, few can practice it. Most of the critics have never been willing to be in harm's way, to serve and protect our way of life. Most would not agree to put 'their sacrifice where their mouth is.'"

Burlingame summarized it best when she told American Thinker, "Bipartisan leaders of the intelligence community as well as those currently working at the CIA describe her as being widely respected. All Americans should consider Haspel a hero whom we owe a tremendous debt of gratitude. If she is not confirmed, then no one should be confirmed."

Ingraham plays clips of three prominent Democrats dismissing the deal back in 2015 when liar-nObama was busily attempting to peddle his wagonload of manure to the American people and Congress. After listening to them Bolton says, “Look, the fact is the deal has been flawed from the beginning, I think the President laid that case out in his statement today.” Bolton says, “He gave the Europeans and others a chance to fix it. It was not doable because the flaws go right to the foundations of the deal, so he did what he clearly advertised he was going to do as far back as the 2016 campaign, pulled the United States out of the deal. Why? Because it’s in our security interests to get out of this flawed deal.”...   https://rickwells.us/bolton-iran-deal-option/

{ nypost.com } ~ President Trump’s declaration Tuesday that he would exit the 2015 Iran nuclear deal was more than just a fulfillment of a campaign promise... it was a much-needed shift in US foreign policy. The message to the world: The era of appeasement is over. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action was among the worst deals negotiated in modern times. In exchange for the suspension of America’s toughest economic sanctions, Iran needed only freeze its nuclear program for a limited amount of time — keeping its nuclear capabilities on standby while perfecting its missile arsenal, increasing support to terrorism and expanding its military footprint throughout the Middle East. By withdrawing from the agreement, Trump unshackled America’s most powerful economic weapons and restored US leverage to push back on the entire range of Iran’s malign activities. Trump must now implement a new strategy that forces Iran to withdraw from Syria and Yemen, verifiably and irreversibly dismantle its nuclear and missile programs, end its sponsorship of terrorism and improve its human-rights record...   https://nypost.com/2018/05/08/trump-now-needs-to-bring-irans-economy-to-its-knees/

Israel has allegedly uncovered involvement by Hezbollah commanders and senior operatives from Shi’ite militias in the planning of the retaliatory strike. It is believed these militias, along with experts from Hezbollah under the command of the IRGC’s Quds Force Commander Maj.-Gen. by Pat Buchanan
{ townhall.com } ~ If Donald Trump does not wish to collaborate in the destruction of his presidency, he will refuse to be questioned by the FBI, or by a grand jury, or by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his malevolent minions.

Should Mueller subpoena him, as he has threatened to do, Trump should ignore the subpoena, and frame it for viewing in Trump Tower.

If Mueller goes to the Supreme Court and wins an order for Trump to comply and testify to a grand jury, Trump should defy the court.

The only institution that is empowered to prosecute a president is Congress. If charges against Trump are to be brought, this is the arena, this is the forum, where the battle should be fought and the fate and future of the Trump presidency decided.

The goal of Mueller's prosecutors is to take down Trump on the cheap. If they can get him behind closed doors and make him respond in detail to questions -- to which they already know the answers -- any misstep by Trump could be converted into a perjury charge.

Trump has to score 100 on a test to which Mueller's team has all the answers in advance while Trump must rely upon memory.

Why take this risk?

By now, witnesses have testified in ways that contradict what Trump has said. This, plus Trump's impulsiveness, propensity to exaggerate, and often rash responses to hostile questions, would make him easy prey for the perjury traps prosecutors set up when they cannot convict their targets on the evidence.

Mueller and his team are the ones who need this interrogation.

For, after almost two years, their Russiagate investigation has produced no conclusive proof of the foundational charge -- that Trump's team colluded with Vladimir Putin's Russia to hack and thieve the emails of the liar-Clinton campaign and DNC.

Having failed, Mueller & Co. now seek to prove that, even if Trump did not collude with the Russians, he interfered with their investigation.

How did Trump obstruct justice?

Did he suggest that fired NSC Advisor Gen. Mike Flynn might get a pardon? What was his motive in firing FBI Director James Comey? Did Trump edit the Air Force One explanation of the meeting in June 2016 between his campaign officials and Russians? Did he pressure Attorney General Jeff Sessions to fire Mueller?

Mueller's problem: These questions and more have all been aired and argued endlessly in the public square. Yet no national consensus has formed that Trump committed an offense to justify his removal. Even Democrats are backing away from talk of impeachment.

Trump's lawyers should tell Mueller to wrap up his work, as Trump will not be testifying, no matter what subpoena he draws up, or what the courts say he must do. And if Congress threatens impeachment for defying a court order, Trump should tell them: Impeach me and be damned.

Will a new Congress impeach and convict an elected president?

An impeachment battle would become a titanic struggle between a capital that detests Trump and a vast slice of Middle America that voted to repudiate that capital's elite, trusts Trump, and will stand by him to the end.

And in any impeachment debate before Congress and the cameras of the world, not one but two narratives will be heard.

The first is that Trump colluded with the Russians to defeatliar-Hillary Clinton and then sought to obstruct an investigation of his collusion.

The second is the story of how an FBI cabal went into the tank on an investigation of liar-Clinton to save her campaign. Then it used the product of a liar-Clinton-DNC dirt-diving operation, created by a British spy with Russian contacts, to attempt to destroy the Trump candidacy. Now, failing that, it's looking to overthrow the elected president of the United States.

In short, the second narrative is that the "deep state" and its media auxiliaries are colluding to overturn the results of the 2016 election.

Unlike Watergate, with Russiagate, the investigators will be on trial as well.

Trump needs to shift the struggle out of the legal arena, where Mueller and his men have superior weapons, and into the political arena, where he can bring his populous forces to bear in the decision as to his fate.

This is the terrain on which Trump can win -- an us-vs-them fight, before Congress and country, where not only the alleged crimes of Trump are aired but also the actual crimes committed to destroy him and to overturn his victory.

Trump is a nationalist who puts America first both in trade and securing her frontiers against an historic invasion from the South. If he is overthrown, and the agenda for which America voted is trashed as well, it may be Middle America in the streets this time.

{ spectator.org } ~ Once a lofty concept, the term social justice has been hijacked and exploited by the political Left to radically transform America... and bully Americans into forfeiting many basic rights in deference to the Left’s agenda. Intoning social justice has proven to be a sure-proof formula for silencing average Americans, thereby providing the Left with endless societal victories. After all, who wants to be accused of standing in the way of social justice? Liberal social justice purveyors view themselves as the country’s moral authority, best fit to decide the allowable extent of our freedom of speech and religion, and believe only they care about social justice and equity. To date, most liberal assumptions and definitions of social justice have been automatically accepted. For example, the term has been used successfully by the Left for the last half century to validate and implement the welfare state. But what is being advocated is not social justice but socialism, and in other cases a push for radical cultural Marxism...

{ washingtontimes.com } ~ President Trump announced Tuesday that the U.S. was pulling out of the Iran nuke deal... keeping his promise to rip up what he called the worst deal ever but igniting fears that the Islamic regime in Tehran will fast-track a nuclear bomb. “This was a horrible one-sided deal that never ever should have been made,” Mr. Trump said in a speech from the White House. He said the liar-nObama-era agreement guaranteed Iran would eventually get a nuclear weapon, and killing the deal was the only way to prevent it. “If I allowed this deal to stand, there would soon be a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. Everyone would want their weapons ready before Iran had theirs,” the president said...   https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2018/may/8/donald-trump-slaps-sanctions-iran-after-formally-w/

{ founderscode.com } ~ When China is not buying America, they are busy in other parts of the globe buying places like Europe... That is how China is expanding, including stealing intelligence, espionage and hacking. The parts of Britain not owned by Russia are being gobbled up by China. Russia has a long plan and China has a long plan, not too sure about the United States, Britain or other allies. There has been many discussions in Congress to reform CFIUS, Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States. The most widely noticed scandal with CFIUS was the Uranium One deal. Anyway, John Carlin recently spoke with the National Law Journal about bipartisan legislation introduced in November in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives by U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, and U.S. Rep. Robert Pittenger, R-North Carolina, respectively, to overhaul the CFIUS review process. CFIUS reviews, which are voluntary, are meant to protect the nation from business transactions that pose a national security or strategic risk to the United States. The panel has the authority to require the transaction’s parties to undertake risk mitigation, such as carving out a specific location or element of the deal...   https://founderscode.com/china-is-buying-america-with-and-without-cfius/

{ foxnews.com } ~ Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein may have bitten off more than he can chew, when he decided to find work for Robert Mueller... In recent days, after almost two years of investigating with nothing to show for their efforts, Rosenstein has become a touch ornery... He recently implied that his critics should be careful about the things they say, because it could come back to bite them. Congressman Ron DeSantis (R-FL) didn’t find Rosenstein’s comments helpful, and he’s starting to wonder if the Assistant Attorney General actually understands the Constitution that he has been charged to defend? DeSantis argues that Rosenstein has “botched” the investigation, and that Mueller doesn’t seem to have any reason to need to speak with President Trump because he hasn’t found any evidence that any crime or malfeasance was committed...

{ dailysignal.com } ~ The New York Times just can’t stop talking about communism... Recently the Times ran an editorial headlined  “Happy Birthday, Karl Marx. You Were Right!” The piece, written by Jason Barker, a professor in South Korea, is about what one would expect from a defense of communism. As one Federalist writer noted, it was “beyond parody.” Hilariously, the article was behind a very capitalistic paywall. The New York Times hasn’t shied away from publishing Marxist boosterism. In 2017, the Times dedicated an entire section of its website to the 100-year anniversary of the communist revolution in Russia. It featured an assortment of absurd pieces running the gamut of declaring Lenin a hero environmentalist to claiming that women had better sex lives under socialism...  https://www.dailysignal.com/2018/05/04/the-lefts-chilling-refusal-to-stop-flirting-with-marxist-ideas/?&mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTVRSaFltSTNPREl6WW1FMCIsInQiOiJYNXYxaFM3VGRjN1E4WE5UWmF6TitNUGxoTzJQRnVEaEFtTExqUCtZVitzUkV1a0VsVmhDSEZTdnFSTnQrZDVDNXhmdDd4YStFNHpBNUlFUlVIQk9DTGRcL1ZDZzRpYW96SDJ1bWN1UGhKQ0NFV2xkblwvQTdoS2h0dURXTmRaZlRHIn0%3D

Sorry, Liberal Media,
But You Own Michelle Wolf

by David Limbaugh
{ townhall.com } ~ Michelle Wolf is not the first so-called comic to maliciously insult conservatives and Republicans at a White House Correspondents' Association dinner, but she was intentionally mean-spirited, and even after the blowback, she's unrepentant.

Members of the liberal mainstream media have expressed disapproval over some of Wolf's comments, saying she went too far. But I'm not buying it. This is what passes as liberal humor these days. Just watch Jimmy Kimmel, Bill Maher and Stephen Colbert and tell me their humor is less malevolent.

But hold on, you say. There's a difference between late-night TV and a formal dinner pregnant with self-important dignitaries of the Washington press corps. Perhaps, but the point is there is a receptive constituency for this kind of bile. The organization had to have known what to expect from Wolf, and she admits she was just being herself that night. "If you've seen any of my comedy, you know that I don't -- I'm not nice," said Wolf. "I don't pull punches. I'm not afraid to talk about things."

Revealingly, comedian Tina Fey said, "When you invite a comedian into that place, where that tone is set, they're going to give it to you straight, and I think that's pretty much what she did." Whoa! In one line, Fey defends Wolf's nastiness, confirms that the association should have known what it was getting with her and fixes her stamp of approval on Wolf's calling White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders a liar.

The unapologetic Wolf, however, denies she was ridiculing Sanders' looks. But in her indignant denial, she admitted something just as damning: "I think if you listen to the joke, you'll understand that it's about the fact that she lies, and if it's taken another way, I think you should go back and listen to it again."

Oh, OK, Michelle. You are not a bad guy after all. You only vaguely hinted at Sanders' appearance, but you admittedly called her a liar outright -- right to her face in front of a large crowd present in the room and an exponentially larger one watching on television. Now that's virtuous. Bless you, you crusader for truth and all that is good and decent.

It is shocking that anyone would think her disparaging slander was funny. But it is not surprising that she would assume that calling Sanders a liar would be well-received or socially acceptable. This is the way far too many leftists think these days. How else do you explain the popularity of their comedians who routinely traffic in this bilge?

Indeed, no one really cares what Wolf thinks. If she had made these remarks in a smoky nightclub, who would know or care? It's what it says about the left that makes it newsworthy.

Based on my own interactions with people of this mindset, I think many of them are so consumed with their contempt for conservatives -- and especially President Donald Trump -- they believe that almost anything goes if it advances the cause of denigrating them.

Their thinking seems to be that conservatives and Trump are so evil that ordinary rules of decorum can be suspended to speak "truth to power" -- as if they're not themselves powerful and as if they are speaking truth. See Tina Fey's comments, above. It's the same thought process driving their rationalization that free speech can be denied to conservatives who express ideas they find repugnant. With every passing year, leftists gain more recruits to serve alongside them as mini-ministers of truth. The level of self-deceit they possess that twists their minds and darkens their sensitivities is alarming, and it's getting worse.

I assume that many of you will think I am hyperventilating or exaggerating -- blowing this way out of proportion and making unwarranted generalities.

I understand you believe that, but I've witnessed this growing hostility on the left for years, which leads even mainstream liberals to reflexively brand conservatives as racists, sexists and homophobes simply by virtue of their conservatism. You can't oppose illegal immigration or criticize Barack liar-nObama on policy without being called a racist. The smear has worked, which I dare say is why such a disproportionate percentage of minorities vote Democratic when Republican policies benefit them more -- and why Democrats are losing their minds over Kanye West's praise of Trump and his assertion that African-Americans should be free to think for themselves and not be pressured into identity groupthink.

I could cite examples all day of liberals condemning conservatives as evil because of their political views and consequently justifying their mistreatment. Jon Favreau, a former speechwriter for liar-nObama, snidely defended Wolf's remarks, mocking complaints about her tone and civility. He was not alone; all kinds of leftist figures defended Wolf, as you can verify with a quick Google search.

Actor jerk-Robert De Niro doubled down on Wolf's invective, not only defending her but also castigating the White House Correspondents' Association for distancing itself from her. "Shame on them! Stand up and strap on your balls and deal," said jerk-De Niro. jerk-De Niro justified Wolf's vitriol because Trump and Sanders and company are "liars and bullies." What did I tell you? Anything goes as long as you're attacking evil conservatives.

ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, hardly an outlier on the left, took to Twitter to chide the media for not defending Wolf, who "was FUNNY."

Wolf put the elite leftist media in a box when she so openly attacked a woman in public while they were conspicuously present, but this is how far too many of them think, and this is why they invited her to the event and why they invited the equally offensive Wanda Sykes and Stephen Colbert in the past. Please spare us the feigned disapproval, guys. This is what you do.

{ rickwells.us } ~ If Democrats are this stupid, which many of them are... they should be stripped of their citizenship and returned to that status as 3/5 of a person or even less, and their right to vote taken away. They’re too stupid and support their own eradication. That would be bad enough but they are determined to include the rest of America with them. We can’t let that happen. They already made the point that they are in favor of the destruction of America by electing an Islamic jihadist as their deputy national committee chairman. The enemy of the state, Rep scum-Keith Ellison (D-MN), was seen sporting a t-shirt in a local May Day Parade, the traditional communist holiday, that read “Yo no creo en fronteras.” In the language of the United States, English, that translates into “I don’t believe in borders.” Is it any wonder patriots in America can’t get defense of our nation, a border wall, approved by a turncoat Congress?...   https://rickwells.us/dnc-keith-ellison-borders/.

Conservative leaders are now denouncing Booker’s vote as a violation of the Constitution’s Religious Test Clause. Booker sharply questioned Pompeo on Thursday during the nominee’s confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, referring to words Pompeo spoke at a church in his district when the current director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was still serving in the U.S. House of Representatives. { peggynoonan.com } ~ Let’s ease in softly on a pretty day.

Spring came to New York this week after a month of gloomy cold and drizzle. The sun was out. Monday afternoon just before dusk there was a bird outside my window, all by itself and singing so loudly—byeet-byeet-chur-chur-chur. Over and over as if it had just discovered its voice. I was emailing with a friend, your basic hard-bitten journalist, and told him what I was hearing—it sounded like the beginning of the world. He wrote back not with irony but with the information that a band of baby rabbits had just taken over his garden and were out there hopping and bopping: “They are so excited to be on earth.” This struck me as the most important news of the day.

My bird sang on a few minutes and then flew away, but it made me think, for the first time in years, of William Carlos Williams of 9 Ridge Road in Rutherford, N.J., and his famous poem from his 1923 collection, “Spring and All”:

so much depends
upon

a red wheel
barrow

glazed with rain
water

beside the white
chickens

No one is sure what it means, though a poem doesn’t have to mean. To me it’s about how so much depends on reality—on what is, on the suddenly seen tenderness of what is, and how it can catch you unaware.

So now to what I’ve been thinking about, which is a question: What is required of us at this point in history? What is required of those of us who aren’t making history but observing it, watching with concern or alarm? There’s a sense now of not getting the news but listening for what shoe just dropped.

Thursday morning there was the president’s latest unhingement, in a phone interview on “Fox & Friends.” He was agitated; he spoke of witch hunts, monsters, fakes, phonies and killers. They are “trying to destroy” his doctor, who withdrew his nomination as secretary of veterans affairs. James Comey is “a leaker and he is a liar.” “There is no collusion with me and the Russians.” “Fake news CNN actually gave the questions to the debate.” “They have a witch hunt against the president of the United States.” “It is a horrible thing that is going on, a horrible thing. Yet I have accomplished, with all of this going on, more than any president in the first year in our history. And everybody—even the enemies and haters admit that.” He’s disappointed in his Justice Department. The “corruption at the top of the FBI, it’s a disgrace.” Michael Cohen represented him “with this crazy Stormy Daniels deal.” “But I’m not involved, and I’m not involved—I’ve been told I’m not involved.” He gets along with Kanye West. “I get along with a lot of people frankly.” “CBS and NBC, ABC—they’re all fake news.” They tried to suppress the Trump vote, so that his supporters on Election Day would say, “So let’s go to a movie, darling, and we’ll come home and watch Donald lose.” “Let me tell you the nuclear war would have happened if you had weak people.” “I don’t watch NBC anymore; they’re as bad as CNN. I don’t—by the way I made them a fortune with ‘The Apprentice.’ ”

You could call the interview far-ranging or scattered, you could call it typically colorful or really nuts, but you couldn’t hear it without feeling more disquiet and unease. And that was just Thursday’s installment of “As the Trump Turns.”

So what is required of us at this roiling time? What are some behavioral rules for the road? The political turbulence we’re experiencing isn’t going to go away, and what’s important at such a time is to absorb the daily shocks, think long-term, speak your mind, share your heart, and do your best.

Beyond that, I think the great requirement of this moment, in the second year of the Trump era, is: Don’t lose your composure. Don’t let it rob you of your peace. Maintain your poise. Don’t let the history around you destabilize you. Don’t become sour. Keep on your game, maintain your own standards. There are people on television who level the gravest charges against the administration. But they don’t look sad, they have a look of cackling glee. History isn’t unfolding for your amusement. If it’s such a tragedy, you could now and then look stricken.

It would be good for people to dig deep. Everything in our national political life is in flux. Don’t just oppose. Take time to look at why you stand where you stand. Why are you a Democrat? What truths, goals, realities of that party deserve your loyalty? Republicans, the same.

And we should stick to our knitting. Help your country in every way you can within your ken. National figures come and go, but local realities sink in and spread; families fail or flourish. We are a great nation and an earnest people. We forget this, especially in cynical times, but we are.

Many of our political figures are not enjoying their spring.

Republicans on the Hill are bracing for a blue wave. Some have gotten out of the way, some have hunkered down.

Mr. Trump is their problem. Whatever magic he has is not transferable. The base continues to shift under their feet.

Democrats, too, are antsy. Their party continues to split, and they don’t know where the safe area is between the rising left and its demands, and the old liar-Clintonian moderation and its rewards.

What is required of Republican politicians who wish to survive?

To succeed in a dramatic era, a politician needs a combination of caution and imagination. Caution—a knowledge of human nature, an understanding of coalitions, and an admission that history laughs. Imagination—the ability to ascertain the lay of the land and smoke out possibilities, even find room for compromise, knowing history sometimes bows. This involves the ability to make distinctions. Being imaginative doesn’t mean being unrealistic, and caution isn’t cowardice. To be imaginative is to be open and intuitive as—yes—an artist, not like some gerbil munching on numbers with little pink hands.

You can’t allow yourself to be reduced to just repeating things that were revolutionary 40 or 50 years ago but no longer seem fully pertinent to the country we’re in, or its circumstances.

You have to be sensitive to cultural vibrations. Republican politicians treat social issues as something to be spoken of now and then, mostly when the public brings them up—in part because such issues divide, in part because they don’t know how to speak of them. They’re not philosopher kings. But a politician with a sense of how people are thinking would observe that when the conversation turns to marriage and family formation, the best commercial for both in the past decade was the recent celebration of the life of Barbara Bush. A marriage of 73 years, the idea of marriage as both love affair and partnership, was burnished and made new for everyone who passed a screen. What was being celebrated was the pleasure and sacrifice that go into building something that endures.

And you have to know what time it is. Life moves, things change.

So much depends on reality, on what is. All of politics does.

{ rickwells.us } ~ Sean Hannity asks Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes to explain the slow-walking of information... the use of “redactions in the name of national security that turn out not to be true,” and how DOJ “has been unwilling to answer Congress’ subpoena and how that is the constitutional role of Congress.” That’s a lot of explaining, more, says Nunes, than the total time remaining on their program permits. He picks a couple of recent points, the fact that it took 6 weeks for redactions that kept secret the fact that James Comey is lying about whether the FBI agents who interviewed Michael Flynn thought he was lying. There are multiple instances involving the release of information about the conduct of Fusion GPS. Nunes reveals that they believe the FBI and DOJ actually knew that the liar-Clinton campaign and the DNC paid for the Steele dossier from the beginning. { gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ Iran and Hezbollah have been operating in Latin America since the 1980s, effectively undisturbed... During this time, Iran and its proxy, the terrorist organization Hezbollah, have been Islamizing Latin America, seemingly to create a forward base of operations for the Islamic Republic in the backyard of the United States. In April 2017, a Hezbollah operative, Mohamad Hamdar, arrested in Peru, was acquitted of all terrorism-related charges. The Peruvian court found that Hamdar's role within Hezbollah was in itself insufficient to consider him a terrorist. This legal vacuum regarding Hezbollah might also be why Islamic terrorism, drug-trafficking and organized crime in the region is frequently underestimated. According to testimony at a United States House of Representatives panel hearing on Iran's global terrorism network on April 17, 2018, Iran and Hezbollah have converted and radicalized thousands of Latin Americans to Shia Islam...   https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12268/iran-latin-america

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ It is now nearly certain that President Trump is going to walk away from his predecessor’s nuclear deal with Iran... the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. The president in his announcement Tuesday may provide a bit of wiggle room by slowing the reinstitution of sanctions lifted by the accord in the hope that the Europeans will eventually join the United States in demanding tougher restrictions on the regime. But the effect most likely will be the same: The deal is dead. Washington will soon be confronted with the thorny issue of what the president, Europeans, Russians, Chinese, and, last but not least, Iranians will do in response. The accord’s denouement could bring an enormous trans-Atlantic rift, preventive military strikes against the Islamic Republic’s nuclear sites, Iranian terrorism against U.S. troops and civilians, Russian arms deliveries to Tehran, and even a bipartisan congressional revolt against the president. That probably isn’t where this is going, but the possibility remains that the White House could poorly handle its escape from a deeply flawed arms-control agreement, leaving the United States in a worse position than where it was with the JCPOA...   https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/defense-national-security/times-up-for-iran-deal

{ nationalreview.com/ } ~ President Trump announced Tuesday that he will not renew the Iran nuclear deal... defying European allies and escalating tensions with an Iranian regime that vowed not to return to the negotiating table should the U.S. withdraw from the liar-nObama-era nonproliferation agreement. “It is clear to me we cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb, under the decaying and rotten structure of the current agreement..the Iran deal is defective at its core,” Trump said during his announcement from the White House. The announcement marks the beginning of a 90 day delay period, after which the U.S. will reimpose the harsh economic sanctions that were lifted in 2015 in exchange for the regime’s commitment to cease developing its nuclear program for ten years, according to Fox News. Trump has repeatedly maligned the 2015 deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, calling it “one of the worst and most one-sided transactions the United States has ever entered into.”...   https://www.nationalreview.com/news/iran-deal-trump-withdraws-us-obama-era-agreement/

Mueller Has Three Disturbing Conflicts of Interest

{ restoreamericanglory.com } ~ Former CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson has made a name for herself as one of the few journalists in the mainstream media who woke up... took a look behind the curtain, and realized she was working for people who wanted to obscure the truth as much as they wanted to expose it. After realizing that her bosses at CBS would kill any story that might put the liar-nObama administration in a bad light, she lit out for the territories and has been a beacon for truth in reporting ever since. As such, when she writes an op-ed about the current state of politics, anyone interested in what’s really going on would be wise to pay close attention. This week, Attkisson, having perused the list of questions published by The New York Times that Robert Mueller wants to ask President Donald Trump, she determined that the special counsel is laboring under “at least three serious conflicts of interest.” Conflict #1: Mueller is investigating rumors of his own firing. “Think of it this way: You’re the boss at a company and decide to fire an important manager,” Atkisson writes. “Maybe you believe he acted improperly, conspired against you, or is simply not the right man for the job. He’s unhappy you fired him. Now imagine the fired employee — or his good friend and colleague — is awarded the power to judge and assess your motives regarding that firing and other matters. Would it be fair to have the very people who feel wronged be put in charge of determining your fate?”....

The Best And The Worst
by Tom McLaughlin

The-Second-Coming-Analysis-Image.jpg

{ tommclaughlin.blogspot.com } ~ Perhaps the most-quoted poem in the English language is “The Second Coming” by William Butler Yeats. For nearly a century different writers have cited one or more of its 22 lines written ninety-nine years ago which begins with:

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;

quote-out-of-ireland-have-we-come-great-hatred-little-room-maimed-us-at-the-start-i-carry-from-my-william-butler-yeats-203016.jpg

The second and third lines resonate most for me:

Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,

tumblr_lgd7ccizxu1qzc9qxo1_500_large.jpg
Maybe it was world-wide demonstrations last week on Mayday, which has for more than a century been a day for the left to rally against capitalism. Masked, black-clad, anarchist ANTIFA demonstrators rioted once again in Europe, Canada, and America. In Paris where they burned cars and businesses and clashed with police and over 200 masked thugs were arrested. The left and the right in America are increasingly polarized since the 2016 election prompting renewed fears that maybe “the centre cannot hold” here.
IWWdrawing.smlr.gif.pagespeed.ce.tJRGHqhX7k.gif
Begun by the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) sometime in the 1880s, Mayday demonstrations often turned into riots and became a worldwide phenomenon after the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917. That event, among others, shook Yeats and catalyzed his famous poem. Others included the “Great War,” or what we now call World War I, and Ireland’s “Easter Rebellion” which, after many unsuccessful attempts to gain Irish independence from Great Britain, did eventually result in liberating most of the island, but only after a long, brutal struggle.
19302572.jpg
Despite the religious tone implied by the poem’s title, Yeats was for the most part agnostic. Though born into what Irish historians call the wealthy “Protestant Ascendancy” in 1865, Christianity meant little to Yeats. He dabbled in mysticism and the occult and worked against the influence of Catholic Church in his native Ireland.
slide_3.jpg
Despite the overwhelming prevalence of Catholic Irish peasantry in the independence movement, Yeats became a leader of sorts and a senator in the new Irish government around the time he won the Nobel Prize for literature. He wrote The Second Coming in 1919 when it seemed, as he described in the next four lines:

The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned:
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

maxresdefault-1.jpg
Yeats grew up comfortably and could dabble in poetry without worrying about supporting himself, but he could see that, were anarchists to topple everything in their passionate intensity and things really did fall apart, his family money and his leisurely life could disappear also. But it didn’t; the centre held until his death in January, 1939, just before the blood-dimmed tide was loosed again across Europe and the world.
blood-dimmed-tide2.jpg
Literary analysts claim Yeats was referring to clergy when he claimed: “The best lack all conviction,” as if they didn’t really believe what they preached, “while the worst” — anarchists, socialists, and Bolsheviks — looked as if they might well take over western civilization.
The-Celt.jpg
Western pundits today call Europe “post Christian” as churches are abandoned across the continent — or converted into mosques for another religion “full of passionate intensity.” To end the poem, Yeats seems to describe the Sphinx:

A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it

An-Opportunity-for-experiencing-the-Great-Sphinx-of-Giza-with-the-help-of-Augmented-Reality-.jpg
Finally, he asks:

And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
What rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches toward Bethlehem to be born?

Judge Robert Bork edited the last line as title for his 1998 book Slouching Toward Gomorrah which I’ve been reading for the past three months. At the same time I was reading Jordan Peterson’s 2018 book 12 Rules For Life; An Antidote for Chaos which has been a bestseller across the English-speaking world. Both authors analyze Yeats’ poem at some length.
slouching-towards-gomorrah.jpg
The subtitle for Bork’s book is: Modern liberalism and American Decline. It’s more direct and hard-hitting than Peterson’s. Writing twenty years apart, both men perceived that: “The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.” Bork’s nomination to the US Supreme Court was famously sabotaged with passionate intensity by leftist Democrats including Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy.
Today Peterson is pursued wherever he speaks by passionate (some would say crazy) leftists and anarchists who literally pound on the windows and doors outside venues to which he’s invited — and shout him down before being removed from the halls.

Some claim President Trump caused the increased polarization in today’s America. Others claim his victory was a result of pre-existing polarization. Trump’s blunt talk and scrappy style endear him to his base and enrage his opposition, but which side is the best and which is the worst depends on your perspective.

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Throughout 2015, and until April 28th, 2016, there were unknown “outside government” contractors with access to the FBI/NSA database... Those outside government agents were conducting unlawful searches of the FISA database. The 99-page FISA Court opinion by presiding justice Rosemary Collyer proves this with absolute certainty. CTH has long suspected those outside agents were doing political opposition research; and were allowed to do so as part of the political misuse of the intelligence apparatus. Pg 83. “FBI gave raw Section 702–acquired information to a private entity that was not a federal agency and whose personnel were not sufficiently supervised by a federal agency for compliance minimization procedures.” With the revelation of Daniel Richman, a close friend of James Comey, being an “special access employee” of the FBI, hired by Comey, CTH anticipates Richman will be discovered as one of those previously described “outside government” unpaid contractors with access to the FISA database. The new information of Richman, along with what we know of Fusion-GPS, is an example of the hidden connective tissue between the Lawfare group (outside government) and the “small group” of DOJ and FBI officials inside government....

Destroying America, One Miseducated Student After Another

If the trend holds steady, the annualized rate could top 100,000%. The same day, liar-Hillary Clinton opined that being a capitalist hurt her election chances because “41 percent of Democrats are socialists or self-described socialists.” The day before that, the National Assessment of Educational Progress’s (NAEP) 2017 test results released by the U.S. Department of Education revealed that 65% of eighth graders lacked proficiency in reading and 67% lacked proficiency in math. In short, a corrupt public school system indoctrinates semi-literate cannon fodder for a Democrat Party that now clamors for the same socialism devastating Venezuela.

How corrupt is the current system? “The atrocious NAEP performance is only a fraction of the bad news,” explains columnist Walter Williams. “Nationally, our high school graduation rate is over 80 percent. That means high school diplomas, which attest that these students can read and compute at a 12th-grade level, are conferred when 63 percent are not proficient in reading and 75 percent are not proficient in math. For blacks, the news is worse. Roughly 75 percent of black students received high school diplomas attesting that they could read and compute at the 12th-grade level. However, 83 percent could not read at that level, and 93 percent could not do math at that level.”
Such machinations are nothing less than outright fraud, which continues in large part because of collective bargaining.
Collective bargaining has recently manifested itself a series of teachers’ strikes that began in West Virginia on Feb. 22, and spread to Kentucky, Oklahoma, Arizona and Colorado. What are these strikes about? With the exception of Kentucky, where the primary issue was pension reform, they were about teacher pay. To be fair, teachers in Arizona, West Virginia and Oklahoma have  salaries that rank near the bottom nationally, even when cost of living is factored into the equation. Yet many of those same teachers get pension benefits that dwarf comparative private-sector benefits, and many get retiree health coverage that has become virtually nonexistent in the private sector.
As American Enterprise Institute education expert Frederick Hess explains, the mediawould like to blame “stingy taxpayers” for stagnant teacher pay. Yet he notes per-pupil spending actually grew by 27% between 1992 and 2014. “Between 2003 and 2014, even as teacher salaries declined, per-teacher average benefits spending increased from $14,000 to $21,000 — much of which goes to paying down pension debt rather than benefits for current teachers,” Hess reveals. On top of that, there’s been a substantial increase in the number of non-instructional staff precipitating “top-heavy bureaucracies that add nothing to students’ learning, but do add to union membership rolls and make teachers’ jobs easier,” as Investor’s Business Daily puts it.
They also add to the inconvenient reality that funding the current system has pushed many states to the brink of insolvency.
Moreover, while pay raises may be the teachers’ impetus for striking, their union leaders have other ideas in mind. “What do all of these strikes and protests have in common?” asks columnist Kevin Boyd. “They are taking place in states where Democrats are either trying to make gains or consolidate their power in this fall’s elections.”
Columnist Jenni White takes this assertion further, insisting school officials used the strikes as a pretext for promoting the Democrat agenda. One parent reported that her child was required to write a paper on her feelings about the walk-out, and another student told her mother that teachers were offering pupils extra credit if they attended a student rally in support of the teacher strike.
And then there’s American Federation of Teachers (AFT) President Randi Weingarten. Last month, Weingarten made a phone call during a train ride to New York. Unfortunately for her, she was overheard plotting a teachers’ strike in Puerto Rico.
Why? Because Gov. Ricardo Rosselló signed legislation aimed at increasing the number of charter schools and voucher programs that pose the greatest threat to union hegemony. “We never use the word strike,” Weingarten said. “We are a human shield for the kids … teachers are doing this in the stead of parents and kids.” Weingarten also referenced the strikes in Oklahoma and West Virginia, saying the union’s goal should be “cloaking” their efforts. “Let everyone call in for a personal day so they can’t open schools,” she said. “Let them call in for a sick day. They’re sick to death about the schools. They’re so anxiety ridden about the schools.
When she realized she’d been outed Weingarten remained defiant, insisting support for school choice and vouchers was tantamount to “feeding Wall Street vultures,” and a “perversion of priorities.
Whose priorities? Charts of 2017’s eighth grade reading and math proficiency rankings in 27 large urban districts published by the DOE reveal the most successful districts sport a 41%, proficiency rate in math, and a 36% proficiency rate in reading.
In a better nation, “success” rates that condemn six in 10 children to compromised futures would be considered appalling. In this one, they are union priorities. And since Democrats are more than willing to march in lockstep with those priorities, it should surprise no one that the worst performing districts are all Democrat strongholds.
“Teachers’ unions have immense political clout, and can demonize anyone who disagrees with their agenda,” Investor’s Business Daily explains. “They’ve been tremendously successful, becoming one of largest contributors to Democratic and left-wing political candidates to get their generally hard-left union agenda past local legislatures and through our nation’s Congress.”
OpenSecrets.org, a website dedicated to tracking campaign contributions, translates that clout into monetary terms revealing that from 2004 to 2016 political donations by teachers’ unions “grew from $4.3 million to more than $32 million — an all-time high.”
Such clout has real-world consequences. A 2017 Investor’s Business Daily editorial asks if we’re becoming “too ignorant” to save our constitutional republic. A Rasmussen survey released April 30 suggests a highly disturbing answer: 46% of Americans favor government-guaranteed jobs for all.
In 2001, Venezuela was the richest county in Latin America. Seventeen years later, the nation that embraced “21st Century Socialism” stands on the brink of total collapse. The Democrat Party and its unionist education allies, “socialists or self-described socialists” asliar-Hillary Clinton describes them, endeavor to put America on a similar path to self-destruction.
Every political war currently occurring in this nation is secondary to this one. Yet it remains the only one where only one side is doing the fighting.
If this dynamic remains unchanged, American exceptionalism will cease to exist — one mis-educated student after another.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ rickwells.us } ~ Rep Ron DeSantis agrees with Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes that it is time for House Republicans... to hold the obstructionist AG Jeff Sessions in contempt for his continued stonewalling in order to protect the guilty of his own departments, DOJ and FBI, as well as the State Department, some Intelligence employees and much of the liar-nObama regime.  DeSantis says Sessions and his DOJ and FBI “have shown nothing but contempt for us in our oversight prerogatives, which really is getting the American people the truth, as we’re elected by the people. So if they’re going to show us this level of contempt, we should hold them in contempt. And  unless you’re willing to attach a sanction to non-compliance, you will continue to play this song and dance over and over again.” He says, “I think Chairman Nunes is exactly right. He’s really one of the few chairman hear that Trey Gowdy, Bob Goodlatte, Chuck Grassley, Richard Burr? who are actually putting his foot down and saying this is enough. So let’s set that contempt hearing. And here’s the thing, Lou, if you do that and show you’re willing to do it, I think they end up producing the documents, because he wouldn’t want to go through that.”...

Second, because many others — especially my friend Andy McCarthy of National Review Online  and Kim Strassel of the Wall Street Journal — have done an excellent job of performing that task, I could not see how I could add value to what has been done. Now, because of the passage of time and the occurrence of events, the first reason for my forbearance is no longer true, which leads me to believe that the second is undermined too greatly. For the same reasons, it is necessary to conclude that Mueller’s investigation has to be brought to an end. The Mueller investigation has gone on so long and is absorbing so much of the president’s time and attention that it is creating a deleterious effect on national security. One-time Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort has been indicted in two different federal courts on separate charges. Manafort, supposedly a cooperating witness in Mueller’s investigation, suffered a pre-dawn raid and search of his home on Mueller’s orders, a harsh tactic normally reserved for serial killers, drug traffickers and mafia dons who might destroy evidence...  https://spectator.org/time-to-shut-mueller-down/?utm_source=American+Spectator+Emails&utm_campaign=07787ae424-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_07&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_797a38d487-07787ae424-104608113

Now, WikiLeaks is publicizing revelations about the FBI “investigation” of liar-Clinton’s private email server when she was secretary of state that should be setting off alarm bells all over the country. { theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ “Today, senior administration officials will hold a background briefing to preview the Presidents historic rescission request to Congress... The special message to Congress will be delivered Tuesday, May 8, 2018. The briefing will be conducted via conference call at 6:00 PM EDT tonight. The information will be embargoed until 9:00 PM EDT this evening.” In essence the administration is preparing to enter into a spending discussion with congress. The White House is actually trying to eliminate unnecessary federal spending. FULLSTOP. Yes, that’s what happens when a businessman, committed to financial stewardship, takes over as executive and reviews spending. The basic point of “recission” is simple. The Omnibus spending bill contained too much unneeded spending on non-essential budgetary items. A Very Stable Genius President approved the Omnibus to gain the needed financing for the military....

Judge Smacks Down Mueller's 'Unfettered Power'

Ellis blasted Robert Mueller’s special investigation during a Friday hearing in its case against President Donald Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort. Ellis, a Ronald Reagan appointee, took Mueller team lawyer Michael Dreeben to task for prosecutorial overreach, lecturing, “If I look at the indictment [against Manafort], none of that information has anything to do with links or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of Donald Trump. So I don’t see what relation this indictment has with anything the special prosecutor is authorized to investigate.”

Manafort was indicted by the Mueller investigation on 18 counts of tax- and bank-fraud-related changes, none of which are directly tied to any Trump/Russia collusion conspiracy. Ellis made it clear that he saw through the special prosecution’s ruse, asserting that the charges raised against Manafort were obviously intended as a means “to exert leverage on a defendant so that the defendant will turn and provide information on what is really the focus of the special prosecutor.
Dreeben insisted that the charges against Manafort were within Team Mueller’s “investigatory scope.” Ellis merely scoffed, however, firing back, “My question to you was, how does bank fraud and these other things that go back to 2005, 2007 — how does that have anything to do with links and/or coordination between the Russian government and individuals associated with the campaign of Trump?” In reply, Dreeben once again referenced the scope of investigation granted by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein: “We are not limited in our prosecution authority to crimes that would fit within the precise description that was issued in this public order.” Ellis retorted, “I have that right here, and I’m glad you raised it because 75% of it is blocked out, redacted. Why don’t I have a full copy of it?
Dreeben said that the judge only needed to see the scope of Rosenstein’s memo that was pertinent to Manafort. But Ellis rejected that answer and accused the special prosecution of seeking “unfettered power” in a quest to target Trump: “You don’t really care about Mr. Manafort’s bank fraud. You really care about what information Mr. Manafort can give you that would reflect on Mr. Trump or lead to his prosecution or impeachment or whatever. That’s what you’re really interested in.” Bingo. Ellis then ordered Dreeben to return in two weeks with an unredacted Rosenstein memo or provide a better explanation of why not.
If the judge throws out the charges against Manafort, it would throw a major wrench into Mueller’s efforts to build a collusion case against Trump. It already shines the spotlight on the Justice Department’s concealment practices that have been justified as necessary in order to protect national security and ongoing investigations. However, all the recent unredacted documents have shown an agency with leadership keen on protecting themselves from public scrutiny rather than any actual national security issues. It will be interesting to see if Mueller’s team meets the demands of Judge Ellis, who very effectively called out this charade for what it is.

Levin first brought up the issue of whether or not, and the determinations by the Justice Department’s own Office of Legal Counsel, a sitting President can be indicted. Levin says the DOJ says they cannot, asking why, then, is Mueller being allowed to continue and supported in his targeting of Trump? DiGenova notes that the Mueller “investigation” is completely illegitimate, that the Constitution vests all executive power in the executive branch, no crime has been asserted as having been committed by Rosenstein in appointing Mueller, how can he constitutionally investigate “no crime?”...

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The Kurds have a proverb: "We have no friends but the mountains"... In Afrin, however, even the mountains could not protect them from the Turkish warplanes and the Islamist militias allied with Ankara. Although the videos of terrifying executions are certainly not new in the tragic war of Syria, in this instance the video was shot by a terror group operating under the command of a NATO country, Turkey. The video shows members of Syrian militias abusing the corpse of Amina Omar, a female Kurdish fighter who was also known as "Barin Kobani". She was killed defending Afrin, a city-canton in Syria attacked by the Turkish army of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. In the video, Omar, who belonged to the female unit of Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG), is called "female pig" and a soldier steps on her breast. The desecration of her corpse ended up symbolizing not only the ferocity of the Kurds' enemies, but also the sense of a huge, unbearable moral and political betrayal suffered by the Kurds at the hands of their Western allies...

hanoi-John Kerry Goes Nuclear, Secretly Negotiates With Iran

It appears likely that he will withdraw.

“The president laid out some pretty clear stakes in ground for what he wanted from the Europeans,” said James Carafano, a defense policy expert at The Heritage Foundation who worked on the Trump transition. “He’s already across the Rubicon. He’s decided the deal’s not working, and a fix that doesn’t fix anything is not acceptable.
It’s against that backdrop that a man with extensive experience negotiating with America’s enemies without the authority to do so is working behind the scenes to save the deal. Former Secretary of State hanoi-John Kerry has reportedly held numerous secret meetings with officials and leaders from Iran, Germany, France and the European Union to salvage the nuclear agreement, whichhanoi-Kerry spent years negotiating for Barack liar-nObama.
Democrats wanted to hang former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn out to dry for supposedly violating the Logan Act, a 1799 law that prohibits private citizens from conducting unauthorized foreign policy, because Flynn had conversations with Russians during the transition into power for the Trump administration. Of course, they’re silent on hanoi-Kerry. No one has ever been prosecuted under the Logan Act, but hanoi- Kerry’s “shadow diplomacy” is serious — he’s actively working to undermine the current administration to save a horrible deal in which he has a personal stake.
Former Demo Sen. Joe Lieberman weighed in, saying, “In my opinion, what he’s doing is inappropriate and he shouldn’t be doing it. [The Trump administration] is a duly elected administration so I hope hanoi-John Kerry stops.
It’s arguably treason, and if anyone knows how to get away with treason, it’s hanoi-John Kerry, who negotiated with the North Vietnamese in 1970, giving aid and comfort to the enemy at a time of open war. He then delivered communist propaganda and slander of American troops in congressional testimony. For nearly 50 years,hanoi-Kerry has been a disgrace to his country and it’s well past time he faced the consequences.

Did Comey Learn His Monkey Trick
from scum-Adam Schiff?
by Henry Scanlon

{ americanthinker.com } ~ How the heck do they do it, Comey and scum-Schiff? Each can deliver a string of half-truths, contradictions, outlandish obfuscations, distortions, misrepresentations, and even preposterously self-serving whoppers in a way – and here's the monkey trick – that makes him seem, on balance, and taken as a whole...reasonable.

Anderson Cooper dinged Comey pretty hard, and then Brett Baier absolutely hammered him, but if you don't know the underlying facts, the contradictory things previously said; if you don't know the history of vicious predation; if you don't realize that the narrative is rife with holes and implausibilities; in short, if you are not paying very close attention, it all comes off as a guy reading off the latest baseball statistics or offering a favorite recipe for shrimp and grits – what sounds remarkably like the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, but which is fully, completely, shrewdly exsanguinated. There is no blood, no guts, no there. A recitative... It's as if, rather than being a participant in the events under discussion, they are reviewing a movie, each a dispassionate critic passing aesthetic rather than moral judgment from the vantage point of a merely observing and therefore unaccountable audience member.

Weirdly, it seems to work: they come off as reasonable guys, giving reasonable answers in good faith and with innocent intention. Somehow, the fact that none of it hangs together and all of it is self-serving fails to register. As such, they get a pass.

Here's the way Jonah Goldberg put it in a tweet:

I don't think people appreciate scum-Adam Schaff's [sic] incredible talent to sound above the fray, non partisan and more in sorrow than in anger, while being hyper partisan.

It's odd, even a bit creepy.  How could stuff that tendentious, that self-serving, that shaded, slanted, and purposefully obfuscatory, come off as so...not that?

It isn't just rhetorical gymnastics and sleight-of-hand, although that's part of it. "That's not my understanding"; "That's not my recollection"; and "That's a fair point, but I don't see it that way" are all useful dodges to get nettlesome accusations and implications to ricochet off into more comfortable pastures. But it's actually something else: look closely, and you'll see that the primary ingredient is – no ingredient. That is, no emotion. That is, no human emotion. That is, not reacting as you and I would if we were caught in a lie, an exaggeration, a deflection, or an obvious contradiction.

You and I would get indignant and defensive, even if we tried to hide it. Our voices could rise a pitch.  Our body language would reveal our discomfort; we might even squirm a tad. So, too, if things were going the other way, if we were making an accusation, pointing out a wrongdoing; if we were attempting to imply malfeasance, mendacity, or criminality on someone else's part, we might appear, at the very least, chagrined if not aggressive. "J'accuse!"  There would be some hint of humanity in our behavior, some revelation of our inner shock or contempt or indignation, our humanity.

But watch Comey and scum-Schiff. Nothing. Emotional flatline. Only well saddled and judiciously inserted regret, a kind of ruefulness that their high-throned fealty to truth-telling requires them to reveal things that, yes, others would no doubt find upsetting, even shocking, but they, Spock-like, merely report. "I never could have imagined saying this, but..." is a phrase designed to mask one's feeling about the behavior itself while crafting theatrics of disappointment that one has unfairly, but who's complaining? been put in the position of having to reveal it.

But since they, themselves, have no dog in the fight, only the obligation of duty, their posture, demeanor, voice intonation, and anodyne rhetoric accurately reflects the neutrality of their purely public-service motivations. This allows them to employ – which they both do constantly – the incredibly weaselly technique of invoking their access to privileged, classified information to imply without actually saying it that they have seen the goods on their opponent, things you can't see but they can, or have, but then, at the same time, due to their vaunted commitment to honorable behavior, "I can't talk about that." As in: "Yes, I know whether Joe Blow is a wife-beating, drug-addicted child predator – but I can neither confirm nor deny it." Guess how Joe Blow is faring in that little exchange!

It's a trick. It works, and it's a lot harder to do than they make it look. If you can convince people you are not involved in what you are saying, merely a messenger whose internal ethical rudder compels fealty to truth-telling with disregard for the consequences those truths might engender, your words will tend to be taken at face value, rather than as a calculated attempt to implement a particular strategy such as exonerating yourself or incriminating an opponent. That's the irony: it's all about emotion, or the lack of it, rather than substance.  If you can say it in way where you can convince people you don't care about the implications, or, at least, you don't care to manipulate those implications, you come off as righteous.

It's unclear how the two of them got so good at it, but they certainly are. As Comey's day in the spotlight approached, did he take note of scum-Schiff's technique, on display incessantly as scum-Schiff eagerly galumphed from one friendly camera-op to another?

If Comey did, the chances are he's starting a chain. There will be others, because it works, and people are taking note. Watch for it. We may be witnessing the ascendancy of the robo-politician, and the only way to derail it might be a degree of determination to hold their feet to the fire that most of the mainstream media have no desire to do, even if they had the ability, which, these days, they don't. Gee, thanks, Columbia Journalism School!

All of this recalls, somehow, and maybe incongruously, the day in 1958 when Yankees manager Casey Stengel was summoned to give testimony in Congress. The issue was whether baseball should be allowed to keep its monopoly status, but no matter. Stengel was considered by many to be a crackpot and by many others to be a crackpot genius. He was asked one question. One. He proceeded to give an early clinic on how to appear cooperative and sound sincere while serving up a completely incomprehensible word salad designed to avoid even a scintilla of actual responsiveness or accountability. It was a meandering, soaring masterpiece of rhetorical acrobatics. Every time he began to teeter on the high-wire, threatening to fall and crash to earth, he somehow regained his balance and instead surged forward with increased momentum. This went on until, finally, he arrived at not so much a conclusion as a random stop in mid-sentence, nevertheless, apparently, done. The room sat in stunned silence, utterly incapable of figuring out what to do with all this. Finally, the chairman regained enough presence of mind to ask the next witness, Mickey Mantle, if he had anything to add. The Mick leaned into the microphone and said what was perhaps the only thing that could possibly be called for. "My views are just about the same as Casey's."

Believe me: Casey and The Mick have absolutely nothing on scum-Adam and James.

{ rickwells.us } ~ Intelligence Committee chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) mentions the recent actions by Judge TS Ellis in rebuking the Mueller Inquisition attorneys... saying that it looks like the whole investigation has gone off the rails. That’s an understatement but Nunes knows he and the American people are best served when he chooses his words carefully. He’s moves on to the issue of the FISA investigation, which Nunes explains is conducted in a secret manner with only a very few people’s knowledge. He says the abuse of that process is a component of what brought us to where we are today and reveals, “Two weeks ago we sent a letter to Attorney General Jeff Sessions, a classified letter. Per usual it was ignored and not acknowledged, just completely ignored.” AG “AWOL General” Sessions is running out of time and won’t be able to simply ignore the next action that will follow. Nunes continued, “So last week we sent a subpoena, and then on Thursday we discovered that they’re not going to comply with our subpoena on very important information that we need.” Asked what he’s going to do now, Nunes replies, “The only thing left that we can do is we have to move quickly to hold the Attorney General of the United States in contempt and that’s what I’m going to press for this week.”...

{ dailysignal.com } ~ These days, a number of people seem to be under the impression that investigating President Donald Trump is the most vital project undertaken by this nation since its founding... Perhaps. But their feelings shouldn’t override the Constitution, because for all the principles allegedly being whittled away by this administration, its antagonists seem to be doing everything they can to keep pace. For instance, while it might come as a surprise to many, the Justice Department is not an “independent” entity. Presumably, those who work for the DOJ have fealty to law and justice first, yes. But they are ultimately subordinates of the president of the United States, who was elected legally and has powers identical to those of former Presidents Barack liar-nObama or George W. Bush. In other words, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein doesn’t work for CNN personalities or Vox explainer writers. He works for Trump...   https://www.dailysignal.com/2018/05/04/the-fbi-shouldnt-be-above-the-law-either/?utm_source=TDS_Email&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=MorningBell&mkt_tok=eyJpIjoiTVdJM056ZGtOVEZpTm1JeiIsInQiOiJYbjZtTU4zUnZrSFF3N0lCaEU3UFwvanZMNGI5UHlveXFRNlRjaGVYUEdjUWkzeitlS1h5WHJ6SHVQemU5VFFHRFlVWVZZOTBveXZLcFF5KytwdXFTVjZCaDRXcnFyR012Nm51d3NOMU5ReFJqaGp2WFRXYnJjejB1OWtLb0JkQXQifQ%3D%3D

{ timesofisrael.com } ~ An Israeli minister on Monday threatened that the Jewish state could kill Syrian President Bashar Assad... if his regime doesn’t prevent Iranian forces from launching attacks against Israel from his territory. The warning came amid reports that Tehran is planning a revenge missile strike against Israel. Officials in the Islamic Republic have vowed to respond to several alleged Israeli attacks in Syria that targeted Iranian facilities and killed at least seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. { prageru.com } ~ Like Benjamin Franklin in the 1700s or Elon Musk today, Walt Disney was the twentieth century’s prime example of American ingenuity... Raised on a small family farm in Missouri, he arrived in Hollywood in 1923 with little more than a suitcase, a pencil, and an idea. But his story is testament that in America, that’s more than enough. In this video, Glenn Beck, best-selling author and host of The Glenn Beck Program, explains how Disney became a household name, and how he proved that in America, the only limit to your ambition is your own imagination.

Mike Pompeo brings his reset button to the State Department
by Joel Gehrke

{ washingtonexaminer.com } ~ Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is moving immediately to fill vacant senior positions at the State Department... a task so large it has the feel of a “presidential transition” as opposed to a hand-off from one member of President Trump’s Cabinet to another, according to Republican foreign policy experts. “That is true in the sense that there's so many vacancies,” Council on Foreign Relations senior fellow Elliot Abrams told the  Washington Examiner. “It’s really incredible how many vacancies there are. It’s more like starting fresh.” Five of the nine most senior positions at Foggy Bottom are vacant; the number was six, but Pompeo already has filled the role of counselor of the department. Dozens of ambassadorships are empty, while there are just five Senate-confirmed assistant secretaries of state....

by conservativeinstitute.org
{ conservativeinstitute.org } ~ In a startling revelation earlier this week, The New York Times published what it claims are 49 questions that special counsel Robert Mueller sent to lawyers for President Donald Trump. The questions are apparently a road map of inquiry that Mueller and his prosecutors and FBI agents plan to put to the president if the president agrees to sit down for an interview with them.

I have been arguing for months that the president should not agree to an interview with Mueller. My reasons are fairly boilerplate: It is nearly impossible to talk prosecutors who are determined to seek an indictment into changing their minds.

As well, the person being interviewed cannot possibly know as much about the case as the team doing the interview, and he will be prone to error.

In the interview environment, one small lie can result in one big headache of an indictment, even if the lie is about an extraneous matter. When federal prosecutors question a potential defendant, who appears voluntarily and is not under oath, the questioners can lie to the person being interviewed, but he cannot lie to them without risk of indictment.

Just ask Martha Stewart. This is exquisitely unfair, but it has been federal law for generations.

The Supreme Court has ruled that federal prosecutors and FBI agents can use trickery, deceptions and outright falsehoods — even disguises, verbal traps and fraud — to help them extract information from a witness or person they are investigating.

Given the president’s well-known propensity to talk at length on many disjointed matters and to think both aloud and unfiltered — witness his 30-minute unannounced telephone interview on live cable television with my colleagues on Fox & Friends last week — there is a very serious danger that he would contradict himself and even contradict facts for which the special counsel has hard evidence.

Donald Trump is the subject of a criminal investigation. When prosecutors interview a person they are investigating, it is to help the investigation, not the subject of it.

As if all of this were not enough to dissuade a self-confident Trump from sitting down with an all-knowing Mueller and his crew, now come the 49 questions Mueller has told Trump’s lawyers he wants to ask the president.

Though many of these at first blush appear not to challenge the president’s memory or command of facts, consider a deeper analysis.

There are two species of questions here. One set of questions is intended to get the president off on a disjointed monologue to see whether he — as he did on Fox & Friends — will admit to something without actually being accused or even asked about it.

The others are questions to which Mueller already knows the answers and for which he has irrefutable hard evidence — and the quest is to see whether the president will be truthful.

As well, both types of questions are mere starting points — intended to lull Trump into a comfortable but false sense of security — which would then be followed with curveballs he would have great difficulty trying to hit.

One of Mueller’s questions is profound, and I have not seen anything like it in all the literature and legal arguments preceding the Times‘ revelation this week: “What knowledge did you have of any outreach by your campaign, including by Paul Manafort, to Russia about potential assistance to the campaign?”

Prosecutors need a factual or good-faith basis to trigger their questions. This question goes to the heart of the so-called collusion issue.

I say “so-called” because “collusion” is a media and a political word; it does not describe anything in the law. What Mueller is looking for is a conspiracy, which is the easiest crime for prosecutors to prove because the crime need not have been successful.

The late Justice Robert Jackson, himself a former U.S. attorney general, famously called conspiracy prosecutors’ favorite crime.

The essence of conspiracy is an agreement — here, an agreement to accept campaign assistance from a foreign person, entity or government, which is illegal, even if the assistance never arrived. The essence of the crime is the agreement, not the receipt of something of value.

The conspirators need not have met together or even be known to each other, providing at least one of them took at least one material step — such as a phone call or a meeting with Russians offering help — in furtherance of the agreement.

If there is truth underlying this question — if Mueller has hard evidence that the true answer is “yes” — it could only have come to Mueller from Rick Gates, Manafort’s former business partner and co-defendant and now Mueller’s star witness.

Gates could have told Mueller in return for Mueller’s dropping charges against him that Manafort reached out to the Russians, in which case Mueller would want to test Trump’s knowledge, understanding and truthfulness on this white-hot issue.

If Trump were to answer “no” and Gates told the grand jury that Trump did know of this, Mueller could claim Trump lied and ask the same grand jury to indict Trump for that.

If Trump were to answer “yes,” that would be the end of his presidency. If he were to give a rambling non-answer, Mueller would make the most of it.

Are prosecutors fair? Many are, but their common view is that they need not always be fair because they are after bad guys who don’t play by the rules. To the prosecutorial mind, it is for judges and juries to be fair.

What should Trump do? He should go about the business of being president. He should do what is most difficult for him: stay silent.

Don’t trust a man who owns a grand jury. Don’t help him undo your presidency.

{ rickwells.us } ~ The delusional bodyguard for libtard Allysa Milano seems to have a Wesley Snipes obsession that has completely taken over his life... including his attire, mannerisms and his bluster. Someone needs to tell him that “Blade” was just a movie. Real people have vocabularies of more than six or seven words and don’t bully others simply because they speak the truth in disagreement. He’s lucky the pro-NRA heckler backed up or he could have found himself facing assault and battery. He’s clearly guilty of assault in his threatening manner and aggressive movements and “instructions.” He was simply asking a question that any normal, fair-minded American would ask, why this actress, famous because she was originally cast at the age of ten on a mind-numbing sitcom and who provides living proof of its negative effects on a daily basis, is speaking out against guns as she’s surrounding by bodyguards to ensure her own safety, some of whom, the thug Snipes-wannabe at a minimum, who are armed themselves...   https://rickwells.us/milano-thug-bullies-nra/

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ In rather stunning news this morning, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes... informs the listening audience he plans to hold Attorney General Jeff Sessions in contempt of congress for refusing to comply with a subpoena. According to comments within a Fox News interview there is something important to Chairman Nunes the FBI and DOJ are intentionally withholding. The issue is a little clouded because Chairman Nunes sent a classified letter to the DOJ requesting a specific response about the status of a specific person, and their engagement within issues of the DOJ and FBI conducting a counterintelligence operation. No-one knows who this “individual” might be. However the DOJ did write back to Chairman Nunes last Thursday and said they would not comply. We have no way of knowing if the DOJ refusal relates to withholding evidence for a valid reason, or if the FBI/DOJ is refusing to comply because they are part of a cover-up of malicious conduct. Like many issues in this ongoing dynamic you can read valid and invalid motives into current action....

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Remember the January 2012 ABC Presidential primary debate when out of nowhere George Stephanopoulos asked Mitt Romney... if access to contraception was protected under the constitution? In 2012 no-one knew what the heck that was about… the question literally came out of left-field. Less than a week later the Democrats began introducing Sandra Fluke, and the rest is history. ABC was working hand-in-hand with the DNC to CREATE a narrative out of thin air. Well, as you watch this interview today, notice the EXACT SAME framework being applied to the Stormy Daniels story. Seriously, watch the Stephanopoulos presentation, it’s spooky…. this is narrative engineering: Before anyone starts saying Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, etc. etc., has nothing to do with Stormy Daniels, pay very close attention to what George Stephanopoulos is doing in that interview. by Kerry Lear
{ punchingbagpost.com } ~ President Donald Trump has selected Gina Haspel as his nomination for the Central Intelligence Agency director. She will be facing a confirmation hearing on May 9 and, if nominated, she will be the first woman CIA director.

"In a long career with the Central Intelligence Agency, Gina Haspel has held senior positions around the world supervising covert action, managing U.S. spies’ collection of human intelligence and working on counterterrorism efforts, according to a biographical summary of her career declassified by the agency on Tuesday," writes The Wall Street Journal.

33 years ago, Haspel started her career with the agency as a young case officer in Africa. From the late 1980s to the early 1990s, she worked in Africa and Europe as a case officer. She then became an intelligence-operations officer in Russia after the collapse of the Soviet Union, where she rose up in the ranks.

In 1996, she was the chief of station in the "Central Eurasia Division" and was a station chief three times after.

Then in 2001, she worked in counterterrorism in response to the September 11 attack. Between 2001 and 2004, she was the deputy group chief of the Counterterrorism Center and then she became a senior-level supervisor.

"Over the course of her career, Ms. Haspel four times served as chief of station—the top CIA official in a country responsible for all the agency’s operations there. Three of those postings were in Europe or Central Asia, and one location remains classified," writes WSJ. "In recent years, Ms. Haspel served in several top roles in the division of the CIA responsible for covert options, clandestine operations and the collection of on-the-ground intelligence. She also was the deputy chief of the National Resources Division, a CIA officer charged with gathering intelligence from U.S. residents about their travels abroad and recruiting foreign visitors to become intelligence assets when they return home."

If confirmed, this would make her the second person to spent their entire career at the agency before becoming director.

Haspel currently is the agency's acting director, but will be subjected to a hearing where she will have to answer tough questions about her events in career.

The CIA has release limited details on her background, which some lawmakers are disappointed with.

"Ms. Haspel is not an undercover operative, she's the deputy CIA director seeking a Cabinet-level position. It's unacceptable for the CIA to hide her behind a wall of secrecy, particularly when such secrecy is unnecessary to protect national security," wrote Sens. Ron Wyden, (D-Or,) Heinrich, (D-NM,) and Fein-stein, (D-CA) last week.

Then last month, it was revealed that she was on the team that ordered the destruction of tapes from an interrogation program that has been criticized as being a "torture program."  Waterboarding, a torture technique that simulates drowning, was allegedly shown on the tapes. But her supervisor ordered that the tapes be destroyed.

“We know Ms. Haspel was a willing participant in one of the darkest episodes in the CIA’s history—an episode that degraded our standing in the world, put U.S. captives at great risk of similar torture and failed at obtaining significant intelligence gains,” said Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) last week. “While Congress has been denied access to the full extent of her involvement, she was sufficiently involved to be disqualified to lead the agency.”

It appears as though Haspel will receive bipartisan support from the Senate Intelligence Committee and then a bipartisan confirmation.

Former CIA director Michael Hayden believes there is no one better for the job than Haspel.

"I certainly concur that it ought to happen, and I’ll defer to the senator. And that is really good news, because I know how contentious–unfairly contentious–this has been for Gina," Hayden said. "Hugh, she is the absolute best choice to be the director of CIA. And when people want to bring up the past, I’m happy to relitigate that if they like. But I want to talk about the present and the future."

The former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper also said that she is a "tremendous intelligence officer."

Author's note: Haspel seems more than qualified for this role and since she has bipartisan support, it looks like she will be the new CIA Director.

{ clarionproject.org } ~ A bi-partisan bill targeting the Iranian-backed, Lebanese terror group Hezbollah was introduced to Congress last week... The bill, dubbed the Disarm Hezbollah Act, calls for an investigation by the director of national intelligence to assess the group’s “capabilities, arsenal, and the illicit supply routes it uses to procure weapons.” The intelligence report will then be used to assess the effectiveness of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and detail the ways Hezbollah raises and distributes funds in the region under the noses of UNIFIL. UNIFIL has been charged with keeping Hezbollah in southern Lebanon in check since the agreement to end the 2006 war in which the terror group attacked Israel. Hezbollah rejected that agreement and has been stockpiling weapons ever since...   https://clarionproject.org/hezbollah-targeted-bi-partisan-bill/

{ americanthinker.com } ~ When former president liar-nObama's cheerleaders, greedy Europeans, and the leftist echo-chamber media argue in favor of keeping the nuclear deal with Iran... their main argument is that the world is a safer place with it because the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors have confirmed that Iran has not violated the deal since its signing in 2015. They further state that Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent revelation of a treasure trove of Iranian nuclear intelligence obtained by the Israeli spy agency Mossad, which proved that Iran has been lying about its nuclear weapons program, was well known and that no "smoking gun" proving any Iranian violations of the nuclear deal was provided. The European Union, in response to the Netanyahu presentation, stated that the "nuclear agreement, is not based on assumptions of good faith or trust, it is based on concrete commitments, verifications mechanism and very strict monitoring of facts done by  IAEA and as a result the IAEA has published 10 reports, certifying that Iran has fully complied with its commitments." In reality, the IAEA inspections could not truly confirm or certify such compliance because the deal itself was bad and the supposed inspections specified in the deal were a total farce...

{ timesofisrael.com } ~ Iran is planning to retaliate for recent deadly airstrikes in Syria attributed to the Jewish state... by having its proxies fire missiles at military targets in northern Israel sometime in the near future, defense officials warned on Sunday. Tehran vowed revenge after the T-4 army base in Syria was struck in an air raid on April 9, killing at least seven members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. The strike was widely attributed to Israel, though Jerusalem refused to comment on it. Late last month, a second strike, allegedly conducted by Israel, against an Iranian-controlled base in northern Syria was said to have killed more than two dozen Iranian soldiers. On Sunday, all of Israel’s nightly news broadcasts reported that the Israeli military and intelligence services had identified preliminary efforts by Iran in Syria to carry out its reprisal, using its IRGC and local Shiite militias to launch a barrage of precision-guided missiles, likely at Israeli military targets in the north. “Israel has recently identified with certainty Iranian preparations to fire at the north,” Channel 10 said. “We are not on the eve of war with Iran… but Iran is very determined to carry out an attack” to avenge the T-4 strike and the deaths of its military personnel, it said...

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The annual Armenian Genocide commemorative event that the Istanbul branch of Turkey's Human Rights Association (IHD)... and the European Grassroots Antiracist Movement (EGAM) planned to hold on April 24 -- which they have been holding every year since 2005 -- was blocked by police, who seized the placards and banners about the genocide and carried out criminal record checks on participants. Three human rights activists were detained and then released. In an exclusive interview with Gatestone, Ayşe Günaysu, an activist with the IHD's Commission Against Racism and Discrimination, said that "on their way to police station, the detainees were made to listen to racist songs containing hostile words concerning Armenians." The annual event commemorates the April 24, 1915 round-up, imprisonment and eventual slaughter of more than 200 Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Istanbul by Ottoman authorities -- and the unfolding of the Armenian Genocide. The victims were brought to a prison, now a building that houses the Museum of Turkish Islamic Art (Türk İslam Eserleri Müzesi). The Armenians were then taken to the Haydarpaşa railway station, where they were transported to Anatolia for their ultimate extermination. According to Günaysu...

{ theblaze.com } ~ FBI special counsel Robert Mueller is seeking to delay the first court hearing in a criminal case alleging Russia interfered... in the 2016 presidential election. Mueller has brought charges against three Russian companies and 13 Russians for the alleged interference. The delay comes after two attorneys representing one of the Russian entities began challenging Mueller’s evidence in the case. According to Politico, the 13 Russians and three companies — the Internet Research Agency, Concord Management and Consulting and Concord Catering — were expected to ignore the indictments since they are outside U.S. jurisdiction. However, that’s not what happened. Last month, two lawyers representing Concord Management — Eric Dubelier and Kate Seikaly — surfaced. Mueller told the court Friday the lawyers made a series of discovery requests demanding nonpublic information about Mueller’s case. As attorneys representing one of the defendants, they are allowed to make such requests...

Surveying this short list, you'll notice that all of us public enemies of the progressive diversity-mongers possess an incredibly diverse array of life and work experiences.

We are black, white, brown, native-born citizens, immigrants and naturalized Americans.

We are Republican, libertarian, moderate, hard-right and unaffiliated.

We are politicians, diplomats, academicians, writers, economists, entrepreneurs, entertainers, lawyers, doctors and pastors.

Like I said, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Pretty much any "person of color" who doesn't adhere militantly to Democrat Party orthodoxy has or will face the barbed charge of self-loathing or tribe betrayal.

And legions of women, famous and obscure, wealthy and poor, have been labeled "female impersonators" or "Stepford Wives" for embracing everything from unborn life to gun ownership, high border walls, low taxes and local control.

According to the self-appointed arbiters of color-coded and chromosomal fealty, if you marry outside your race, you're a traitor. If you adopt your husband's name, you're a traitor. If you're happy with stay-at-home motherhood, you're a traitor. If you straighten your hair, or culturally appropriate some other culture's hair, or bleach your hair the wrong color, you're a traitor.

Lord, what dreary killjoys these p.c. police be.

I catalogued my favorite malicious mutations of the Uncle Tom card for years on my blog, from "white man's puppet" to "Tokyo Rose" to "Manila whore," "Subic Bay bar girl," banana, coconut and Oreo. Instead of dissuading me from espousing heretical opinions, these insults spurred me on. Now, the increasing exposure and public ubiquity of unapologetic and unorthodox women and minorities seems to have triggered the collectivists' bile production at the highest levels.

Most recently, the White House Correspondents' Association gave "comedian" Michelle Wolf a lofty platform upon which to denigrate Sarah Sanders' womanhood by sniping:

"I'm never really sure what to call Sarah Huckabee Sanders, you know? Is it Sarah Sanders, is it Sarah Huckabee Sanders, is it Cousin Huckabee, is it Auntie Huckabee Sanders? What's Uncle Tom, but for white women who disappoint other white women? Oh, I know. Aunt Coulter."

Ultimately, the problem with the whinnying Wolf's schtick isn't that it's mean and divisive. It's that it's boring, unfunny and ineffectual. When everyone qualifies as an "Uncle Tom" in the eyes of the left's raging resistance, there will be no one left to pretend to laugh at their anemic jokes.

Trumpism and a Reckoning at RedState

Erick Erickson, the site’s former editor-in-chief said, “The site name will linger, but RedState is all but dead now. I have invited the fired writers here” to The Resurgent, Erickson’s new site. (Note: We carry Erickson’s column in our Right Opinion site.)

Erickson claims that “Salem never had any idea what to do with RedState and it was very obvious.” Well, no, that isn’t quite true. The problem is that RedState has now faced an overdue reckoning, and that reckoning was coming in part because of Erickson.
Back in 2016, we called out the site over its track record of tactical and strategic incompetence, notably backing bad candidates in Senate races in the 2010 and 2012 election cycle and bad strategy in the 2013 government shutdown, and for its failure to understand that the changing threats and media landscape required a fundamental reevaluation of the current array of strategy and tactics.
Now, in the face of growing evidence that our liberties are at great risk from, among many things, bureaucrats who have  chosen to play politics, as well as a Democrat Party whose senators and attorneys general are willing to use RICO on those who dissent from their position on climate change, Erickson seems unwilling to do what many grassroots Republican primary voters did in the 2016 campaign.
They rejected the dynastic succession of Jeb Bush (despite some interesting ideas on education reform), the doctrinaire conservatism of Ted Cruz, and the mushy moderation of John Kasich. Even Marco Rubio’s media savvy and Scott Walker’s successful fight against government employee unions were rejected in favor of Donald Trump. Why?
Trump had the guts to do something different — to do things his way, even in the face of vehement (and principled) conservative objection. Judging by the results so far — tax reform, the defeat of ISIS, numerous conservative judges, and things moving the right direction with North Korea being the highlights — it’s working.
While Erickson can see the bullying from the Left for what it is, whether on gun control, its view of non-progressive Americans  as backwards racists, or even the efforts to compel speech by bakers or crisis pregnancy centers, he can’t resist his own form of asserting superiority over “Trump humpers” who “cop out” when they argue they are looking for a president, not a pastor.
Erickson argues that RedState was unfairly purged of any conservative voices that still dissent from Trump. But, in a sense, Trump is securing for conservatives the right to hash out what the post-Trump future of conservatism will be.   ~The Patriot Pos

In a hearing into the persecution by Grand Inquisitor Mueller’s of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, U.S. District Judge T. S. Ellis III told Mueller’s Democrat attorneys conducting that portion of the coup that he knew what was really going on and wasn’t buying their bullcrap excuses and false pretexts for attacking the President, disguised as an effort to bring Manafort to justice. Ellis, a Reagan appointee, cut through the smoke and mirrors of the corrupt DOJ-special counsel operation, telling the Mueller mouthpieces in court, “You don’t really care about Mr. Manafort. You really care about what information Mr. Manafort can give you to lead you to Mr. Trump and an impeachment, or whatever.”...I wonder if Judge Ellis will get the same treatment as Congress in getting those secret documents?

The incident came amid the protests along the Gaza border, the sixth week of demonstrations, as part of the “March of Return.” At least  431 Palestinians were injured, Gaza officials said, as some 7,000 took part in the demonstrations, flew dozens of kites with petrol bombs into Israel, hurled stones at soldiers and tried to breach the border fence...

{ foxnews.com } ~ Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s widely anticipated testimony next week before the House Oversight Committee has been postponed... as the Justice Department IG has pursued new leads in his review of the liar-Hillary Clinton email investigation, according to a congressional letter and sources familiar with the matter. “It is of the utmost importance that your review be as fulsome, complete and unimpeded as possible,” Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., the chairman of the committee, wrote in a recent letter to Horowitz obtained by Fox News. Horowitz was scheduled to appear before the committee on May 8. { theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ The transcript from the U.S. Special Counsel -vs- Paul Manafort has been released... The entire transcript of the arguments between the Special Counsel lawyers, Paul Manafort Lawyers and Federal Judge T.S. Ellis III are well worth reading. As noted yesterday Judge Ellis is the first legal entity to identify the origin of the special counsel investigative authority as a troubling issue. This is likely to become a much bigger story as people catch on to the ramifications. It is only now coming to light how Asst. Attorney General Rod Rosenstein essentially appointed the Special Counsel to take over the counterintelligence investigation originally begun by the FBI in 2016. Also previously unknown: part of the initiating mandate included the special counsel being granted use of a sketchy FISA Court Title-1 surveillance warrant initially applied against Carter Page in October 2016...   https://theconservativetreehouse.com/2018/05/05/special-counsel-tells-federal-court-rosenstein-investigative-scope-was-detailed-in-super-secret-verbal-instructions/

Anti-Gun Lawmaker Encourages Outright War in America?

TXOa9pEbXPYUc8fQoee99PO_49pz8cvurpO8jK2Rp1SN7asgB8b0qybFWFdQLbYaA5Iwni139xqqNW0kaBPeJNCJz88pEuS1mIAMtTqL_mSAjF1dNxNfyBQybZ87HauL4CtTpeoRrEV2Qtp3Vm0nfDoSSsOXlfOmviR8_u57ts4=s0-d-e1-ft#%3Ca%20rel%3Dnofollow%20href=?width=450by Jordan Candler:  Well, sort of. Rep. Eric Swalwell didn’t come right out and suggest declaring war on gun owners, but if you boil his argument down to its natural ramifications, that’s what the California Democrat’s latest anti-gun op-ed amounts to. With every high-profile shooting comes increasingly vociferous demands by leftists to regulate the Second Amendment on the way toward full repeal.

In the past, Democrats have stuck mostly to regurgitating a tired, old refrain — Congress needs to enact another so-called “assault” weapons ban. And Rep. Swalwell is no different. In a new USA Today op-ed, he critiques firearms like the AR-15 as “a hand-held weapon of war, capable of spraying a crowd with more lethal fire in seconds.” He adds: “Reinstating the federal assault weapons ban that was in effect from 1994 to 2004 would prohibit manufacture and sales.” But even he acknowledges what conservatives argue when opposing new gun control measures — a gun ban “would not affect weapons already possessed,” he says.
That’s where Swalwell turns to promoting even more extreme measures. He opines: “Instead, we should ban possession of military-style semiautomatic assault weapons, we should buy back such weapons from all who choose to abide by the law, and we should criminally prosecute any who choose to defy it by keeping their weapons[emphasis added].” During the last ban, guns that were targeted but were already possessed were grandfathered in. But Democrats are sliding further down that slippery slope today by promoting outright confiscation.
And this is where the Left’s campaign against the Second Amendment is chock-full of irony and recoil. The urge by leftists to “get military guns off our streets” means that confiscation is becoming more of a mainstream idea among party members. Strangely, Democrats think the enforcement of this plan would be as simple as prosecuting those who chose civil disobedience. They wrongly surmise that millions of gun owners don’t view the God-given right to bear arms as something worth dying for. Here’s the unvarnished truth: Attempted gun confiscation would result in a war far worse than what leftists ostensibly endeavor to avoid.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ rickwells.us } ~ Tucker Carlson begins the interview with Roger Stone by reminding his viewers of the now seemingly remote and farcical false premise... that began the whole Russia, Russia, Russia reign of terror by Robert Mueller, Jeff Sessions, Rod Rosenstein and company. They claimed that the Trump campaign was doing what the liar-Clinton campaign and liar-nObama regime really were doing, abusing power, subverting the electoral process, and including the Russian government as a component. Of course that was only a pretext for appointing Mueller and his team of witch hunters who immediately began looking for any excuse they could find to force President Trump from office. Carlson points out that some sanity and impartiality has been exhibited in what is otherwise a complete miscarriage of justice in every aspect, with Judge T.S. Ellis III stepping on those trampling on the rights of the Trump associates and the Constitution along with them, telling Mueller and his horde the truth, that they’re  using Manafort to get to Trump and he knows it...   https://rickwells.us/roger-stone-mueller-thin-air/.

{ freebeacon.com } ~ Russia has begun advanced construction on a new Iranian nuclear plant that could provide Tehran with a second, plutonium-based pathway to a nuclear weapon... according to regional reports that have rattled U.S. officials in the wake of a major disclosure showing Iran lied about its past efforts to construct nuclear warheads. Russia's state-controlled nuclear agency Rosatom announced that it has begun phase-two construction on Iran's Bushehr nuclear power plant in Southern Iran, just one of several new nuclear sites that are being constructed under a multibillion-dollar agreement between the two countries. Construction on the nuclear site kicked off just days after the Israeli government disclosed a cache of some 100,000 secret Iranian documents showing the regime lied about its past efforts to construct at least five nuclear warheads. This nuclear work was later archived and codified by Tehran so that it could continue such work secretly despite the enforcement of the landmark nuclear deal...   http://freebeacon.com/national-security/russia-starts-advanced-construction-new-iranian-nuke-plant/?utm_source=Freedom+Mail&utm_campaign=a502259f8b-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_05_04&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_b5e6e0e9ea-a502259f8b-45611665

{ rickwells.us } ~ Some endorsements mean more than others; some are more sincere and more deserved... Others wind up being a huge mistake and there are those that you wish you hadn’t received. For President Trump two of those come to mind, the endorsement of David Duke and of then-Senator from Alabama, Jeff Sessions. President Trump eventually denounced Duke, a political concession he had to make to calm the ranting of never-Trumpers looking for any excuse to create dissent. With Sessions, the daily consequences continue as our President is repaid for showing his appreciation for the early endorsement with the nomination for Attorney General. That decision is the gravest error of Trump’s presidency to date, a mistake in judgment that any of us could have made and most of us did. We wrongly believing that the Jeff Sessions nominated for AG was the same guy we saw over those many years in the US Senate. Whoever Senator Jeff Sessions was, he’s not the guy now sitting in the DOJ top spot. And President Trump pays a daily price for rewarding whay appeared at the time to be loyalty with an enemy at the helm of the treasonous, deep state-infested and compromised DOJ and FBI...Why not correct that mistake.

Will Gas Prices Cut Into Our Summer Fun?

Granted, we’re not to the point where we were a few years ago when Americans collectively wondered if $4 a gallon was the new normal, but the fill-up that cost $20 a couple years ago may set you back closer to $40 now.

While government (rightly) gets some blame for its taxation schemes and its crazy regulations regarding ethanol, oil industry experts will tell us that the cost fluctuation of a gallon of gas is mainly based on the going price for the primary ingredient — crude oil.
Since the early part of 2016, when prices bottomed out at $27 a barrel, we’ve seen the rate for West Texas crude reach nearly $70. Prices haven’t topped the $100-plus per barrel we saw a decade ago, but this increase has prompted some sticker shock and a prediction that this will be the most expensive summer driving season in four years.
In its heyday, OPEC could bring the U.S. to its knees with a production cut. At first, our response to the cartel was that of enforced conservation, such as CAFE standards for vehicles. And then there’s the ethanol boondoggle, which has created a dependent class within the agricultural industry — one that wails each time its ethanol subsidies are threatened. More recently, though, advancements in extraction technology and the economic interest of cashing in on the higher per-barrel prices has created a new surge in domestic oil exploration. Thus, we’ve rebooted our own oil industry to a point where the OPEC cartel has less influence on our supplies.
But while it isn’t as much of a factor on the supply side, OPEC can still be a price driver. In this case, both Saudi Arabia and non-OPEC Russia have put aside their foreign policy differences and enforced an 18-month-long production cut between themselves — a slowdown that has eliminated the supply glut (and low prices) we enjoyed over the last few years. And since those two nations are the second- and third-largest producers of crude oil (trailing only the U.S.), their coalition significantly influences the market. The higher prices also buy Russia greater geopolitical influence, as oil revenue is crucial to its economy.
This may be the shape of things to come: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman recently revealed that a decades-long pact on oil between the two nations is possible. “We are working to shift from a year-to-year agreement to a 10- to 20-year agreement,” he said. “We have agreement on the big picture, but not yet on the detail.” If such an agreement comes to pass, the era of sub-$2 gasoline may be gone for good.
That’s not to say, though, that everyone is a loser in such a deal. The rebound in prices has allowed good times to return to the oil patch, particularly the Permian Basin in West Texas. One oil patch company has such a need for skilled labor that half its employees can now boast a six-figure salary. Of course, this also makes other avocations less attractive. “The biggest problem I face is low unemployment — finding workers,” said Jerry Morales, who serves as the mayor of Midland and also owns two restaurants in the city. He’s resorted to twice-yearly wage increases and raising menu prices to keep up.
Oddly enough, some of that West Texas crude may be finding its way to a nation that’s awash in oil. Venezuela, which boasts the world’s largest supply of proven reserves, has made  such a mess of its oil industry that it’s resorted to importing  200,000 barrels of American oil daily in order to distill its own crude oil stock, which is a heavier variety unsuitable for refining into gasoline.
That presents a problem for Venezuela’s socialist regime, because gasoline is a commodity subsidized so heavily by the government that filling one’s tank costs pennies. This may have worked nearly two decades ago, when the nation produced 3.5 million barrels a day and could pocket the profits from its exports, but with production having collapsed to less than half of that high-water mark, importing $90-a-barrel distillates isn’t sustainable.
For a nation that has so much, Venezuela provides precious little due to the damage done by its horrendously short-sighted socialist policies. While the U.S. could stand some improvement in its own energy policy, our system has allowed us to weather the inevitable market fluctuations while fully enjoying such luxuries as the summer driving season.
Maybe that’s the next thing Venezuela needs to import.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ rickwells.us } ~ Despite his arrogant elitists condescension, hanoi-John Kerry never received... during his entire four years at Yale an “A” in any course despite majoring in political science. His best recorded grade was an 89. hanoi-Kerry also labors under the commonplace belief of libtards that they are above the law, such as with liar-Hillary Clinton and her espionage and racketeering or Hussein liar-nObama’s racketeering coupled with his identity hoax. Combining his learning difficulties and his belief that our laws don’t apply to special, privileged freaks like him, provides some insight into the reason he feels he can get away with engaging in negotiations with America’s enemies, subverting the power of the President of the United States and our Secretary of State, and attempting to salvage his sellout to our Islamic terrorist enemies in Iran, the sellout that is oddly personal to liar-nObama, hanoi-Kerry and Valerie Jarrett. The FBI confirmed that the lawyer, Lisa Page, tendered her resignation. Page has faced months of scrutiny over the text messages, which she exchanged with Peter Strzok, the former deputy chief of the FBI’s counterintelligence division. The exchanges show a deep hostility to President Donald Trump at a time when the two officials were working on the FBI’s investigation into possible Trump campaign collusion with the Russian government. Some of the texts show Strzok and Page cryptically discussing how to proceed with the investigation, which was opened on July 31, 2016...

It does not seem coincidental that today, in the background of events, there is also a great deal of activity within the aggregate intelligence community (FBI/DOJ). The fuller measure of unemployment fell to 7.8%, a 17-year low. Black unemployment hit a new record low of 6.6% — doubly interesting in the midst of the Kanye West controversy. March’s jobs numbers were revised up from 103,000 to 135,000. Government payrolls declined by 4,000. People applying for unemployment benefits for the first time is now at the lowest level since 1973. Wages grew at an unimpressive 2.6% annualized rate, which bewilders experts, but according to the Employment Cost Index, first-quarter wages grew at the fastest pace in 11 years. That would be prior to the Democrat-caused financial collapse of 2008 for those keeping score.
The lone dark cloud was that unemployment dropped in part because more people aren’t even looking for work. As Reuters reports, “236,000 people dropped out of the labor force. The labor force participation rate, or the proportion of working-age Americans who have a job or are looking for one, fell to 62.8 percent from 62.9 percent in March.” That said, job growth can’t help but slow when the labor market is at essentially full employment.
Meanwhile, the Commerce Department recently announced its estimate for first-quarter GDP growth of 2.3%, which is better than expected. Of course, Americans who rely on nightly newscasts didn’t hear about that good news. Other news organizations spun it in a negative light for President Donald Trump.
And that right there is the key. A lot of the Leftmedia churn undermines consumer confidence, and the economy is all about confidence. To the extent Democrats — with the help of their Leftmedia allies — can erode confidence in the administration, the more they undermine the economy. The trick is for Republicans to hammer home the message of tax cuts, deregulation and a growing economy.   ~The Patriot Pos

{ rickwells.us } ~ The House Intelligence Committee sent a subpoena for documents to the Department of Justice, which was... in their typical “not subject to the same laws they enforce against everyone else” manner, completely ignored. The deadline for production was Thursday. Rep Louie Gohmert describes the obstruction as “another reason Rosenstein ought to step down. He is now involved in helping cover up his and Mueller’s and Weissmann’s misdeeds when they investigated Russia and uranium before, and are engaging so improperly in an investigation here.” Gohmert says “It needs to be understood that when the warrant was obtained from the FISA court to go after Carter Page, one of the requirements of the law is that they have to knowingly certify that they’re getting information regarding to foreign intelligence and that they could not get this any other way...

MONUMENTAL: The Naked Truth About Robert Mueller

by Rep. Louis Gohmert & Doug Ross
{ trevorloudon.com } ~ Robert Mueller has a long and sordid history of illicitly targeting innocent people... His many actions are a stain upon the legacy of American jurisprudence. He lacks the judgment and credibility to lead the prosecution of anyone. I do not make these statements lightly. Each time I prepared to question Mueller during Congressional hearings, the more concerned I became about his ethics and behavior. As I went back to begin compiling all of that information in order to recount personal interactions with Mueller, the more clearly the big picture began to come into focus. At one point I had to make the decision to stop adding to this compilation or it would turn into a far too lengthy project. My goal was to share some firsthand experiences with Mueller — as other Republican Members of Congress had requested — adding, “You seem to know so much about him.” This article is prepared from my viewpoint to help better inform the reader about the Special Prosecutor leading the effort to railroad President Donald J. Trump through whatever manufactured charge he can allege...   http://www.trevorloudon.com/2018/05/monumental-the-naked-truth-about-robert-mueller/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+NewZeal+%28New+Zeal+Blog%29

{ defenddemocracy.org } ~ For those who want to see what a real case of Russian collusion looks like... check out what has been happening in global oil markets for the past year and a half. In late 2016, Russia and Saudi Arabia conspired to cut supply and raise prices. With cooperation from the rest of OPEC, they’ve succeeded spectacularly. Prices that had plummeted below $30 per barrel have been steadily rising in the wake of the Saudi-Russian pact to throttle back production, hovering recently at around $70 a barrel. It could get worse. On his recent tour of the United States, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced that the kingdom’s goal was to extend its scheme to manage prices with Russia for another 10 to 20 years. The Saudi oil minister has suggested that OPEC and the Russians will continue tightening the market even though they’ve already succeeded in drying up a massive glut in global crude inventories. Saudi officials who just a few months ago were speaking of $70 as their target ceiling for prices now suggest that it may instead be the floor. They’ve apparently got their eye on $80, with plenty of talk that a return to $100 might be desirable...   http://www.defenddemocracy.org/media-hit/john-hannah-trump-is-right-to-target-saudi-russian-collusion/

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ Today U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III appears to have caught on to an explosive issue CTH noted yesterday...  In building the case against Paul Manafort, special counsel Robert Mueller’s team used the pre-existing FISA Title-1 warrant that was originally applied to U.S. person Carter Page and the Trump campaign. Under normal criminal investigation any search warrant or surveillance warrant would normally proceed through U.S. courts, under Title-3, where the Mueller team would need to show probable cause for a warrant. However, by using the Title-1 warrant from the FBI counterintelligence operation, as extended by AAG Rod Rosenstein, Robert Mueller was able to use far more intrusive and unchecked searches and seizures for his criminal probe. The media, and broad media-consumption public, are currently unaware the Mueller probe was simply a continuance of the 2016 FBI counterintelligence operation. Most people think the special counsel investigation is a separate issue. It’s not....

The surprise had little to do with questions surrounding Trump’s character and the possibility of his affair 12 years ago — most Americans knew full well that Trump was no choir boy. Instead, it was the sudden admission of the payment after Trump had previously denied any knowledge of it. Did Giuliani just admit to Hannity that Trump lied? It sure looks like it, but, as they say, the devil is in the details.

Recall that Giuliani, a renowned prosecutor before he became mayor of New York City, recently joined Trump’s legal team with the stated objective of bringing Robert Mueller’s investigation to a swift end. Last month, after the story broke that the FBI had raided Cohen’s home and office, it was learned that Daniels’ allegations that she had been paid off were confirmed. Questions then arose as to whether the payoff broke any laws, specifically regarding campaign finance. With the long-running Mueller investigation seemingly having given up on finding any crime of a Trump/Russia collusion conspiracy and instead turning to other possible infractions, Trump (via Giuliani) decided to go on the offensive.
But in order to aggressively do so, the one potentially significant and legally dangerous card the Mueller investigation has to play — a charge of violating campaign finance law — must be dealt with. That explains Giuliani’s public confirmation of the payment to Daniels, while at the same time denying that Trump had knowledge of the payment before a month ago. It also explains the comments about Cohen being paid a regular retainer to look out for any potential problems for Trump, without Trump having to be directly alerted to them. In other words, while it may seem a dubious assertion to claim that Trump had no knowledge of the payoff, it does give him the legal room for plausible deniability. Giuliani is seeking to get any legal entanglements for Trump out of the way before hitting hard on the Mueller investigation. Needless to say, it’s messy and it comes at the cost of a hit to Trump’s credibility.
In the long run, that may be the bigger hurdle for Trump. If the events surrounding this affair eventually show clearly that Trump knowingly and deliberately lied to the American people, that may prove to be the most damaging aspect of this whole scandal. As is often the case, the cover-up becomes worse than the offense. So will Trump and Giuliani’s intentional chaos play work to confuse and keep everyone guessing until a deal is done? Time will tell. In the meantime, it’s bound to get even more, er, stormy.  ~The Patriot Pos

The only way to remove a sitting president is through the impeachment process, not through the indictment process.” Levin continues, “They cannot disable or hamstring a presidency, which is what they are trying to do as I speak. At last year’s lobby day, according to the Muslim Advocacy Day website, almost 400 participants visited congressional offices. I have now published a detailed report at the Middle East Forum that profiles the Islamist activists and officials involved with this lobbying effort, and who have previously met with members of Congress and their staffers. Some of these officials are directly linked to terrorists. Trump to answer under oath. It is a revealing list of questions, proving that after a year of strong-arming Trump family and friends, bankrupting Trump campaign volunteers and former staff, and leaking like a sieve, Mueller has found no evidence of any crime by the president whatsoever. But since Mueller has wasted millions of tax dollars and endless hours of Trump’s time, it’s time for the special counsel to answer some questions. { townhall.com } ~ New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo is threatening to sue the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency for its ongoing raids to detain illegal immigrants wanted for serious crimes like assault and rape. A staggering 80 percent of those apprehended in recent ICE raids in New York were either convicted criminals or charged with crimes. But Cuomo's siding with criminals over crime victims. He's playing politics. Faced with a challenge on his left flank from "Sex and the City" star and gubernatorial hopeful Cynthia Nixon, he's desperate to prove his liberal bona fides. Public safety be damned.

The ambitious New York Governor is parroting Democrats across the nation who claim ICE should be abolished because it's breaking apart families and peaceful communities. The facts prove otherwise. Eighty-eight percent of the illegal immigrants arrested in recent Los Angeles ICE raids and 81 percent arrested throughout California, according to the latest ICE data, had criminal convictions. These are bad guys. So when House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., claims that "unjust and cruel" ICE raids "terrorize innocent immigrant families," don't buy it.

Cuomo's making the same bogus claim. Last Thursday, Cuomo denounced an ICE raid on an upstate farm looking for Marcial DeLeon-Aguilar, a three-time prior deportee convicted for felony aggravated assault. The governor complained that Aguilar's children had to watch their father being pinned by officers to block his escape.

Nice try, governor. What about families victimized by violent illegal immigrants?

Since January 2016, at least 25 Long Island youths have been executed by the MS-13 gang of Central American illegal immigrants. Some of the victims are left so mutilated they can hardly be identified. MS-13 beats the youngsters with baseball bats, puts plastic bags over their heads to suffocate them, and then slices off their noses, ears and lips with machetes. No one read these victims their constitutional rights.

ICE's Operation Matador targets MS-13 gang members. Yet Cuomo seems angrier at the ICE agents than at the MS-13 butchers.

Laughably, Cuomo issued a "cease and desist" letter to ICE last week, ordering federal agents to touch base with local police before taking enforcement action. Cuomo doesn't have a constitutional leg to stand on. Check the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution. Uncle Sam doesn't need Andrew Cuomo's permission to enforce federal laws.

Why the surge in visible, violent sweeps? ICE is forced to conduct sweeps out in the community because New York's sanctuary laws are preventing the agency from taking custody of criminal aliens before they're released from jail, like the agency used to do. As ICE's Deputy Director Thomas Homan points out, these sanctuary policies are needlessly exposing New Yorkers to violence.

Cuomo's mimicking California Democrats, who are in open rebellion against federal law enforcement. In February, Oakland California Mayor Libby Schaaf issued a public alert about a planned ICE raid in her city before it took place, tipping off hundreds of wanted criminals to scatter. U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions said to Shaaf, "How dare you needlessly endanger the lives of law enforcement just to promote your radical open borders agenda?"

Political pandering is driving this agenda. An amazing 27 percent of California's population are immigrants. Immigrants disproportionately favor big government. California hasn't elected a statewide Republican since 2006. New York is moving in the same direction, with 23 percent of its population foreign-born and Democrats gaining increasing control of state government.

Cuomo and other Democrats resist the federal crackdown on immigrant-related crime, and call for increased spending on after-school music and sports programs to provide an "alternative" to gang activity in immigrant communities. That's nonsense. Brutes willing to torture and mutilate a human being with a machete will not be dissuaded by learning to play the flute.

Donald Trump calls them "animals" who have turned peaceful neighborhoods "into bloodstained killing fields." He's got the right plan: "We will find you. We will arrest you. We will jail you. And we will deport you."

{ gatestoneinstitute.org } ~ The picture of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu standing before two displays... one of file folders and one of compact discs, symbolizes possibly the greatest coup in the history of espionage: the Mossad's acquisition of the archive of Iran's program to create nuclear weapons. A runner up for that title might be the advance information about Operation Overlord, the Allied landing in France at the end of World War II, supplied by Elyesa Bazna from Ankara and Paul Fidrmuc  from Lisbon. Nazi Germany failed to act on that information about the intended landing site on D-Day. Instead, it fell victim to false information provided by a supposed spy who was working for the Allies. The parallel to that failure is the present rush of politicians and so-called experts who pretend that the Mossad's coup tells us nothing new and merely proves that the deal is more justified than ever. They claim, in particular, that before the deal was agreed the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) already knew the broad details of what the new information reveals. What the assorted apologists for the Iran nuclear deal have failed to grasp is a simple distinction: the difference between suspicions and confirmation. The IAEA based its assessments on "over a thousand pages" of documents; now we have a hundred thousand...

{ lidblog.com } ~ With news about yet another fake Trump dossier created to hurt the POTUS... and with the proof of who wrote it and where it came from, it seems we now have incontrovertible proof that it was liar-Hillary Clinton and the Democrat Party that colluded with the Russians to affect the outcome of the 2016 election. By now, most of America is familiar with the fake “Trump dossier” paid for by liar-Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 presidential campaign and aimed at besmirching Donald Trump to keep him from being elected president. But now news has broken wide about a second dossier and the author of this one leaves little doubt about who is guilty of collusion and who is not. That is the more famous “dossier,” the one that has been in the news since BuzzFeed released the whole lie-filled mess in January. But, not long ago, news reports noted that there is a second such document, one that was also shopped around and paid for by the liar-Clinton campaign...

{ lifezette.com } ~To the long list of excuses for explaining why a presumed frontrunner lost the 2016 presidential election... liar-Hillary Clinton now adds “socialists” in the Democratic Party, who rejected her devotion to regulated capitalism. As if? Team liar-Clinton needs to confess that its official song is Shaggy’s epic hit: “It wasn’t me,” and then look in the mirror and understand the obvious: liar-Hillary lost (again) because very few Americans embrace suspicious, over-the-top living financed by crony capitalist payoffs (“speeches”) and charity frauds. The former are easy to spot, but the latter are tougher to grasp, unless you study the laws and regulations of charities. Writing about the liar-Clinton Foundation for The Atlantic in the October 2007 issue, Jonathan Rauch framed the obvious eight years ago in the title of his piece: “This Is Not Charity.” Rauch was correct that in 2007 and in the years that presidents George W. Bush and Barack H. liar-nObama were in the White House, the liar-Clinton Foundation only expanded the scope and geographic extent of its unauthorized, uncontrolled, and illegal fundraising activities, all the while subsidizing the majestic lifestyles of political families with dynastic ambitions...

{ townhall.com } ~ The Department of Justice has started issuing charges against members of a caravan parked at the southern border with Mexico.

Late Monday night, charges were filed against 11 members for illegally entering the United States. One of the caravan members has been deported before.

“When respect for the rule of law diminishes, so too does our ability to protect our great nation, its borders, and its citizens,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions released in a statement. “The United States will not stand by as our immigration laws are ignored and our nation’s safety is jeopardized. U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman and his team should be commended for quickly filing illegal entry charges for individuals apprehended along the southwestern border. We will continue to work with our partners in each U.S. Attorney’s Offices to aggressively pursue prosecutions of criminal illegal entry.”

According to DOJ, the members charged purposely evaded immigration authorities by entering the country at "a time and place other than as designated by Immigration Officers, and eluded examination and inspection by Immigration Officers."

“The American Dream has beckoned immigrants from across the globe because of the promise that prosperity and success are within reach for all,” United States Attorney for the Southern District of California Adam Braverman said. “Those immigrants have contributed their voices and perspectives to make up our uniquely American experience. But the foundation for the American Dream, and what allows our democracy to flourish, is commitment to the rule of law.  These eleven defendants face charges now because they believed themselves to be above the law. Those seeking entry into the United States must pledge fidelity to the law, not break them, or else face criminal prosecution.”

The members of the caravan, made up of illegal immigrants from Honduras, arrived in the United States late last week after Mexico failed to stop them. They claim to be seeking asylum in America.

{ rickwells.us } ~ The latest lawyer to join Mueller’s “Coup Crew” is Uzo Asonye... assistant US Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, getting his big career break, his opportunity to really make a name for himself as part of the witch hunt prosecution of former Trump Campaign Chairman, Paul Manafort. Of course he’s a Democrat, a prerequisite to being part of the effort to remove the President from office, but he’s not just any old Democrat. Asonye donated $900 to the espionage criminal liar-Hillary Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, which she lost to Hussein liar-nObama. Like liar-nObama, it’s difficult to find any credible information on where Asonye was born or if he’s even an American citizen. Maybe he’s Kenyan too. Asonye will work as local counsel for Mueller in the prosecution of Manafort, who has been indicted on money laundering and bank fraud charges. One might ask how Mueller is prosecuting Manafort for charges unrelated to the fabricated Russia-Trump “collusion,” and how he’s got any authority to prosecute a supposed crime that allegedly took place before President ever decided to run for President...   https://rickwells.us/mueller-coup-clinton-obama/

{ dailycaller.com } ~ Fox News analyst and host of “MediaBuzz” Howard Kurtz wrote an article Thursday... claiming President Donald Trump is considering replacing White House Chief of Staff John Kelly with former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.  “There are growing whispers that if John Kelly is eased out or bails out as White House chief of staff, the job could go to Corey Lewandowski,” the Fox News article reads. Kurtz said sources told him Lewandowski has already sat down with the president to discuss the job and would accept if asked...

Why Did DOJ Deputy Asst. AG Rod Rosenstein Reauthorize FISA

{ theconservativetreehouse.com } ~ One of the most frequent questions about Deputy Asst. Attorney General Rod Rosenstein circles around his decision... to reauthorize the FISA Title-1 surveillance warrant used against Carter Page and by extension the Trump campaign. In this outline we take the timeline and overlay new information that helps to understand what was going on: Why did Rosenstein renew that sketchy FISA warrant July 18th, 2017? Why did Mueller request clarity two weeks later on August 2nd, 2017? To understand the dynamic we must remind ourselves what was known at key dates in the investigative decision-making. None of this is intended to exhibit an opinion toward the motives of those making decisions; however, in hindsight we can clearly outline what was known and what was not known at the time these decisions were made. Recently we have gained clarity toward the scope of investigative evidence held by Robert Mueller. Thanks to some debriefing interviews by ‘witness’ Michael Caputo we more thoroughly understand what evidence is held by Robert Mueller; and, more importantly the scale of that evidence leads to a reasonable conclusion about how it was obtained...

{ nypost.com } ~ Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is under fire for anti-Semitic remarks in a speech on Monday... The octogenarian leader blamed the mass murder of Jews during the Holocaust on Jewish financial practices, such as “usury and banking and such.” The American Jewish community has predictably unleashed a torrent of condemnations. Less predictably, the UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, The New York Times editorial board and even the hard-left J Street have piled on. Abbas’ anti-Semitism is certainly jarring. But it shouldn’t come as a surprise. He wrote an entire dissertation on the “secret relationship between Nazism and Zionism” as a PhD student in Russia. This wasn’t a deal-breaker for his US supporters who have been lionizing him as a peacemaker for more than a decade and calling on Israel to relinquish territory to him as part of a two-state solution...   https://nypost.com/2018/05/03/its-time-for-a-new-palestinian-prez/

Are Mueller, Rosenstein, et al.,
now trying to cover up their own crimes?
by Sher Zieve

{ renewamerica.com } ~ It is beginning to appear that free-wheeling 'Special Counsel' Robert Mueller and his leftist team of liar-Clinton sycophant lawyers... may have no evidence on, virtually, anyone connected with the Trump Team. It is also becoming increasingly clear to many that Mueller's intent is to so thoroughly destroy – financially, physically, emotionally – and intimidate anyone who helped now-President Trump achieve the presidency that no one will ever try to bring down the Stalinist Deep State government...that now rules we-the-peasants. Could Mueller and his malevolent marauders be banging down doors, picking the locks of private citizens to enter their homes and wake them up in the middle of the night to perform body searches with no evidence that they've done anything wrong? In Paul Manafort's case it appears that it's true. Note: At the time and since then, Manafort has been told by the Mueller team that he is being charged with "involvement" with the Russians and a "Russian Billionaire." I had no idea that involvement with any Russian – let alone a Russian Billionaire was a crime. If so, why do we have any of them living in this country? In any event, Manafort has been 'allowed' to be under 'house arrest' and has to wear an "ankle bracelet" tracker...   http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/zieve/180503

{ jewishworldreview.com } ~ These are not happy days for the liberals, or progressives, or Democrats, or whatever they're calling themselves this week as, one by one, they stink up the familiar labels we've all used over the years.

They're warmed only by their belief that Donald Trump is so evil that good people will neither touch nor praise anything he says, does or advocate. That's in the catechism.

His campaign against Kim Jong-un, sometimes crude and usually bellicose, finally drove Kim to cry "uncle" and sue for a recess, if not for peace. The president of South Korea has already nominated Mr. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, for whatever it's worth on the current market, but the liberal elites prefer to continue their swoon over the unearned Nobel Prize for Barack liar-nObama.

Now Israel has discovered what looks like proof that Mr.liar-n Obama swallowed a lot of lies to collude with the mullahs for a deal with Iran to "resolve" Iran's nuclear-weapons program. This might be the smoking gun that Mr. Trump needs to justify trashing the deal with the mullahs.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed Monday that his government had seized a cache of documents that proves Iran lied to the world about its nuclear-weapons program for years, even after the liar-n Obama agreement was signed in 2015. "Iran did not come clean about its nuclear program," Mr. Netanyahu said in a television address, given in plain English for the world to hear.

The disclosures, which enable President Trump to credibly boast that he was right all along to question the decency and good faith of the mullahs. Presenting 55,000 pages of documents, transcribed on 183 computer disks, the prime minister said Iran had hidden an "atomic archive" of documents describing its nuclear program.

Mr. Netanyahu said Israeli intelligence services had exposed a secret Iranian nuclear project code-named "Amad," which was shelved in 2003, though work in the field continued. The documents show that Iran's nuclear plant was "designed from the get-go for nuclear weapons for Project Amad."

Israel can now prove that Project Amad was a comprehensive program to design, build and test nuclear weapons. "We can also prove that Iran is secretly storing Project Amad material to use at a time of its choice to develop nuclear weapons."

Iran "lied about never having a secret nuclear program. Secondly, even after the deal with the liar-nObama administration, it continued to expand its nuclear program for future use. Thirdly, Iran lied by not coming clean to the International Atomic Energy Agency. The nuclear deal is based on lies based on Iranian deception."

The Iranian deal, reached with the mullahs by the United States and six Western nations, smelled like rotten fish then, and it really stinks now. Mr. liar-nObama, relying on instincts inherited from his early years as a boy in a Muslim school in Jakarta, was willing to trust the mullahs, a convocation of creepy old men in fly-specked beards who hold the strings of the puppet government in Tehran.

The agreement finally reached by the mullahs and negotiators for the West was never submitted to the Senate as a treaty, as it should have been, because Mr. liar-nObama knew it would never be ratified, not even by Democratic senators eager to kiss up to a Democratic president.

So he just pretended it was not a treaty. If President Trump, who boasts that he knows about negotiating deals and even wrote a book called "The Art of the Deal," decides to renounce the treaty and start over, this could be the opening he needs. He could renounce the deal by declaring that it should have been a treaty, ratified by the U.S. Senate, and it must be replaced by proper order.

Paying such attention to the Constitution may seem quaint and unnecessary in our new and improved age, but that's the way the Constitution says it must be done.

Mr. Netanyahu's disclosures rattled Capitol Hill on Monday. "Everything the liar-nObama administration told us about the Iranian nuclear deal program was a lie," a source described as a senior congressional official tells the Washington Free Beacon. "They assured us that we knew ‘everything about everything' about Iran's nuclear weapons program, that it was put on ice, and that the intelligence community had full insight into what was going on."

The disclosures were received by the usual suspects with the usual smirk and snark. The New York Times, which never meets an enemy of the United States that it can't trust verification not necessary, sniffed that Mr. Netanyahu's presentation was "highly theatrical" and "without any evidence of violations."

Mr. Trump may never get a peace prize, but the Booby Prize is likely to go to his unhinged enemies at home, blinded by hate and disappointment. Losing hurts, and some of us just can't get over it.
