COL, it appears to me that everything the government puts together turn into a scam and a fraud because both the givers and recievers are dishonest!
Michael, My father (SGM, USMC) told me when I was growing up: "Government does nothing well, so the less they do the better." I have either served in or worked with the military and government my entire adult life. The problem with the Government is that the Congress passes bills authorizing the expenditure of vast sums of money and then expects bureaucrats to actually do the right thing and manage that money. Just look at the SNAP program. The Secretary of Agriculture requests that the states provide their data on recipients and payments. Only the Republican led states respond while the Demoncrat led states refuse. SNAP is a federal program which is administered by the states. In other words, the Federal government provides the money and the states spend it. Significant fraud was detected by an audit of the Republican led states' information, yet the Demoncrat led states continue to stonewall. The problem with any government is that you have people in government who don't look at the money they spend as something that comes from theiir own pockets. It is easy to spend someone else's money! The bureaucrats don't do their jobs to provide proper oversight because that means they would have to actually work for the money we are paying them. The system is designed from the beginning to encourage fraud, waste and abuse, so that is exactly what we the taxpayers get and it will NOT change until we elect representatives who can't be bought off by the lobbyists!

Michael, Our Founding Fathers were very smart men who foresaw that Government tends toward corruption and that is why they greatly limited the power of Government over We the People. If we could re-educate American Citizens to recognize that it is in their best interests to secure their individual freedom through individual responsibility and keep the government out of our business, we would be so much better off. Up until World War I there was NO income tax, yet we had a military, a diplomatic corps, and a functioning Federal Government. The real problems began when the politically corrupt and the lazy saw a benefit could be had by the government taking money from the productive and giving it to the unproductive. Of course, this is the foundation of Socialism. Now we have a citizenry who beleive that Socialism is good, denying the facts that Socialism killed over 100 million people in the 20th Century. This will bring about the downfall of America and once America falls, the entire world will fall and then comes the judgement!

I think another reason that politicians and politics have gotten so bad is because of the way it has become a play ground for really big money who want to buy political offices! It has become an insane process of the one with the most money wins regardless of qualifications or lack of thereof! Trump broke that blueprint but, it wasn't easy and his opponent had no qualifications at all!
