smart meters aren't so smart

Smart Meters are costing us money, privacy, and our health and safety. Smart Meters interfere with electrical devices, have burned out appliances, exploded and caught fire. People report sleep problems, head aches, ringing in the ears, heart problems, nausea, and other symptoms following installation. Smart Meters constantly transmit pulsed microwave radiation (RF), an environmental toxin and suspected carcinogen.More information:http://emfsafetynetwork.org/?page_id=872SKYROCKETING BILLS: Complaints about inordinate billing increases are reported from all over the US and Canada. One example:“My 11/9/09 bill: $168.03,my 12/9/09 bill: $366.20,my 1/11/10 bill: $1010.09,my 2/10/10 bill: $1053.23. My smart meter was installed sometime in Dec. 09. PG&E says its my fault. I am seeing others have had the same problem… I am wanting to sue. Price gouging. This is WRONG.” …..More billing and other commentshere: http://www.ucan.org/forum/forums/energy/sdg_e_disputes/billing_disputePRIVACY: "The ebb and flow of gas and electricity into your home contains surprisingly detailed information about your daily life. We are ALL threatened by the increase of microwaves from the unprecedented explosion of smart meters in our communities. Some groups are more vulnerable: children, pregnant women, the elderly, people with pace makers and other implanted devices, cancer patients, epileptics, people with compromised immune systems, and those with chemical and electrical sensitivity. http://emfsafetynetwork.org/?page_id=2292SCIENCE: Microwave radiation is known scientifically to have biological effects.International scientists recognize the unprecedented explosion of wireless technologies and call for the precautionary principle. Their statement includes, “We are concerned about the body of evidence that indicates that exposure to electromagnetic fields interferes with basic human biology and may increase the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.” http://www.icems.eu/docs/resolutions/Porto_Alegre_Resolution.pdfA new study by Sage Associates found, “The installation of wireless ‘smart meters’ in California can produce significantly high levels of radiofrequency radiation (RF) depending on many factors (location of meter(s) in relation to occupied or usable space, duty cycle or frequency of RF transmissions, reflection and re-radiation of RF, multiple meters at one location, collector meters, etc).” http://sagereports.com/California Council on Science and Technology (CCST) study leaves radiation health impacts unanswered/states “concern”Scientists and Doctors comment on CCST Study: http://emfsafetynetwork.org/?page_id=3676GREENWASHING: The ostensible rationale for the meters is "green washing." There is no reason to believe that many people will invest in the additional necessary equipment and consult their computers and then change behavior (using toasters at midnight instead of for breakfast, for example) to switch energy use to off peak times more than they would without the wireless meters. All-new transmitting appliances would be required for any vaunted home energy monitoring. Even if people switch energy use to off peak times, doing so would not reduce energy use. People who work at home or spend a lot of time at home during the day, or who could not shift their energy use to off-peak times, could suffer: retired, unemployed and people with disabilities could be hit hardest by the time-of-use pricing plan. I ask that you write and lobby your local town, city, and county governments, governor, legislators, and state public utility commission to call a moratorium on any plans to install smart meters. If smart meters have been installed, insist that they be removed and replaced with analogue (non-digital, non-wireless meters). Consider organizing groups in your state to lobby for the above. It is vital to stop smart meters from destroying the public health and our environment.Take a moment to learn how the new utility meters are actually making many people very ill and causing grave risk to the rest. The problematic frequencies that the meters use, combined with environmental factors never taken into consideration, and the chronic exposures, with no health or safety testing ahead of time has led to a rapidly evolving public health disaster. Smart meters are being deployed in your county soon and within a short while, people will begin complaints of sleeplessness, headaches, dizziness, ear ringing, ear pain, and more. These meters are also a threat to those with metal implants, pacemakers, and insulin pumps, as the wireless frequency used can interfere with and cause more harm.I ask that you visit www.smartmeterdangers.org to learn what scientists and experts are really saying about the smart meters, and why the utility company propaganda isn't holding water. Smart meters do hurt people and animals, far more than cell phones. Smart meters don't reduce energy use and may actually increase it according to studies. Smart meters do cause fires and arcing of electricity. Smart meters do cause "dirty electricity". The studies presented by utility companies are insider reports, they are not independent studies. They are wrong. A review of the data shows that smart meters emit up to 160X more rf radiation than cell phones, for whole body exposures. Smart meters are on, day and night, with high levels of pulsed radiation being emitted all day long. Smart meters don't help, they hurt.I have experienced these meters first hand, I have two on my house (one at each end) and am tortured daily by these, with no help from the utility, even with a doctor note. I must avoid one end of the house and stay in the middle, sleeping on the couch. I cannot enter the master bedroom where the most problematic electric meter is. I have suffered shrill ringing in my ears that has led, in less than a year, to documented hearing loss in both ears. I have suffered pain every day from inflamed sinuses and headaches, sleeping problems and even skin cancer. I am not alone. Some other very disturbing facts:Smart meters do not help with global warming. Smart meters can use more energy, studies show. Smart meters often cost the customer more - utility bills often skyrocket after installation. Smart meters interfere with privacy, your every movement is tracked inside the home as these meters log exactly what you are doing. Smart meters are wireless and the system is easily hacked into. Smart meters are capable of making you very ill and even causing death - they can and do interfere with the signals of the heart, for instance. This means that they are like having a weapon on your home that can be turned on you by anyone in control, including terrorists. Smart meters can put our nation's security at risk, since they can be easily hacked, our nation's electricity will no longer be secure and could be remotely shut off. Once these meters are on your home or business, the utility will try very hard to keep them there, as they stand to make billions from raising rates during peak hours and charging you for them.We need your help to protect America from being experimented on with this new, deadly technology that is going to be placed on every building in our nation - unless we stop it from happening with our collective voices. I invite you to join our Coalition http://www.causes.com/causes/594297-a.... I invite you to learn about this new problem that will sicken millions of Americans, increase suffering, and create yet more of a public healthcare burden on our country. Smart meters are a poorly researched, deadly plan for America. Please learn more, and share this email and the information you learn with all your neighbors, family, and friends!JUST SAY NO TO SMART METERS! Kennedy Millionaires In Line for Taxpayer HandoutIf a line of people looking for a government handout had formed outside the Capitol last week – two prominent people named "Kennedy" would have been among those with their hands outstretched.Victoria Reggie Kennedy, wife of the late Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy, wants $30 million more in federal dollars to help with the cost of a huge memorial to her husband, on top of the $38 million she managed to siphon off of budget lines such as the Defense appropriations bill.Further back in the line for a taxpayer-funded handout is former Congressman Joe Kennedy, who complains that this country doesn't spend enough on heating oil assistance for the poor -- when we're not funding shrines for his late uncle, of course. If you own a television in the Washington D.C. media market, you have seen Joe Kennedy thanking the people of Hugo Chavez's Venezuela and CITGO oil company for bankrolling a program to give discounted home heating oil to poor and elderly people in nine states here in America. You see, Kennedy actually pulling the hose from a big oil tanker from Venezuela to provide heating oil to a deserving family. The non-profit is called the Citizens Energy Oil Heat Program which, of course, has a website and a toll-free number just to remind you who's give you all that subsidized heating oil – 1-877-JOE-4-OIL.Any reasonable person looking at all this would have to ask – do these people ever talk to each other? Isn't there some break in the action at a Hyannisport touch football game or a big family gathering where they could compare notes about which Kennedy is getting how much from the U.S. Treasury?Maybe Victoria could scrimp a few million dollars on the Kennedy shrine – a towering pillar or two less – and ship the savings over to Joe. Or is Joe too busy making his deliveries of Hugo Chavez's oil for the TV cameras? One would think Joe would be trying to do anything to get a few million for fuel for the poor… before he goes begging to socialist dictators in Venezuela.TAKE ACTION: There's a very short window to stop this "shrine" to Ted Kennedy and prevent the $30 million of additional taxpayer-funding from going to fund this liberal pork-barrel project. Contact your elected officials in Washington right now and tell the Congress "no taxpayer funding for the Kennedy Shrine!"--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s been called a federal retirement plan that’s better than the official federal retirement plan, a taxpayer-funded program for government workers that may be ripe for abuse. But it’s a gravy train that could be brought to an abrupt halt very soon.Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) has filed a request with the Government Accountability Office [GAO], the Congressional watch dog agency, to audit once more the nearly century old federal workers’ disability program, where federal workers get lucrative disability payments. The government lists beneficiaries in their 100s receiving these taxpayer-funded payments. The program, the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act [FECA], which the government launched in 1916, is supposed to cover lost wages for federal employees who suffer on-the-job injuries. But many federal workers stay on the program for decades, well into their retirement. Those federal workers on disability can get nearly 75% of their salary tax-free for the rest of their life if they have one dependent, with annual cost of living adjustments.Related LinksThe Black Swan Events of 2011?U.S. Cancer Costs May Hit $207 Billion by 2020A History of Debt-Ceiling FightsWhere is the Deficit Czar?Housing Market Remains HAMPered YOU MIGHT ALSO BEINTERESTED IN7 Things That Will Cost More in 2011 86 Teens Pregnant at One Memphis High School Jobless Claims Post Biggest Jump in 6 Months A Nice, Wholesome Hooters Girl for the Kids Palin Targeted in Violence-Tinged Tweets Following Arizona Massacre That compares to regular federal retirees with 30 years of service who get much less, 56% of their gross wages, which is taxable. “FECA has no limits on the amount of time spent in the program or the amount of money given to recipients,” the Senator notes in her statement, and adds: “FECA has no caps or cut-off periods, which is why there are reported cases of recipients in their 90s and 100s still receiving workers' compensation benefits.“Stunningly, the program does not require regular third-party certifications of continued need for payments, which “expose the FECA program to possible fraud,” the Senator, ranking member on the Senate Homeland Security panel, said in her letter to the GAO.The senator also indicated in her statement the benefits were even more generous than federal retirement, noting they contain an annual cost-of-living adjustment, where as federal retirement pay does not.Already, public sector workers make, on average, about a third more than their private-sector counterparts, studies show. The Congressional Budget Office, a nonpartisan federal research agency, has already made similar findings.“FECA benefits substantially exceed a worker's retirement benefits in most instances,” the CBO says. The Labor Department says there are roughly 49,000 purportedly injured federal workers who have not returned to work and who are receiving FECA disability payments to cover lost wages.Out of those 49,000 recipients, about 7,200 workers are listed as being over age 65 and potentially will not return to work.Senator Collins says in a statement that the Labor Department unit which oversees the program paid out about $2.8 billion in disability payments over a recent 12-month span, without ensuring whether federal workers employees are exploiting the program."At the U.S. Postal Service, for example, 1,000 employees currently receiving federal workers' compensation benefits are 80 years or older,” the Senator adds. “Incredibly, 132 of these individuals are 90 and older and there are three who are 98. This abuse may extend across the government where the Dept. of Labor regularly pays benefits to employees in their 70s, 80s, 90s, and even 100s.”In her statement, Senator Collins notes she has asked the GAO “to audit FECA and report on the length of time individuals remain on the program, the number of recipients who exceeded the standard federal retirement age, and how the federal program compares to state workers' compensation best practices,” to see if the federal program is more lucrative, in turn hurting federal taxpayers.Senator Collins also asked the GAO to compare FECA’s records against the government’s “Death Master File and the civilian payroll database,” to ascertain whether deceased federal workers continue to receive benefits or whether recipients are "double dipping.""I am increasingly concerned that individuals with no intention of returning to work continue to receive these benefits," said Senator Collins in her statement.Sen. Collins has also suggested transferring workers' compensation recipients to the federal retirement system when they reach retirement age. "These individuals should be switched to the retirement system. They're never going to return to work over age 90,” she has said.Federal worker groups have opposed that idea, noting that injured federal employees have forfeited their right to sue the government in exchange for disability payments, among other issues. The Washington Timesquotes Shelby Hallmark, director of the Office of Workers' Compensation Programs at the Department of Labor, who in 2004 testified to Congress about the problem."Under current law, the thousands of long-term FECA (Federal Employees' Compensation Act) beneficiaries who are over normal retirement age have a choice between federal retirement system benefits and FECA benefits, but they overwhelmingly elect the latter because FECA benefits are typically far more generous," Hallmark reportedly said. The Times says a “2005 audit by the Office of Inspector General for the Veterans Administration found that beneficiaries can remain on workers' compensation rolls until they die.”And it says “in 2003, the U.S. Postal Service's inspector general cited potential savings of $19 million over 10 years if only 255 totally disabled postal employees were required to retire.”The Timessays that “same report found there were 81 employees who had been collecting workers' compensation payments for between 40 and 50 years.”The CBO report says that “FECA provides what could be considered a windfall for permanently disabled employees who otherwise would be retired, indefinitely paying them benefits that are higher than those offered by their retirement plans. “And the CBO notes that “permanently disabled employees covered by the Federal Employees Retirement System can cash out the defined-contribution portion of their retirement plans in addition to receiving FECA benefits. The higher benefits could encourage some employees to claim to be disabled in order to raise their retirement income.”Roughly 140,000 FECA claims were filed in 2006, the CBO says; of those, 55,000 federal employees received long-term replacement benefits (averaging about $36,000) for a job-related injury, disease, or death. About three-fourths of those beneficiaries received augmented benefits. More than 60 percent of the beneficiaries were at least 55 years old.The CBO says that “such benefits are out of line with those of other workers' compensation systems.”It adds that “only six state systems authorize additional benefits for employees with at least one dependent, and those benefits are much smaller—about $5 to $10 per week in five states and $25 per week in the sixth, compared with 8.33% of the worker's previous salary in the case of FECA, or about $80 per week for an employee making $50,000 per year. Moreover, salaries and other employee benefits do not increase for workers with dependents. This is of a piece with what cities and towns are seeing across the country. Eight out of ten senior California Highway Patrol officers discover a disabling injury about a year before they retire, the Economist Magazine reports. And according to an audit released in August 2010 by the Buffalo City Comptroller, the city spent $1.99 million in taxpayer funds on health insurance premiums for 152 deceased employees – some [of whom] had died as long ago as 1998.Print Email Share Comments (55) Text Siz

“Barack Obama is Destroying Our Economy on Purpose,” an interview with author James Simpson. On March 9, Brannon Howse of Worldview Radio interviewed author James Simpson. Entitled “Barack Obama is Destroying Our Economy on Purpose,” Howse’s interview of Simpson concentrated on Columbia University professors Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven who wrote an article in 1966 for The Nation magazine. “The article was published on May 2, 1966 and laid out what is now known as the ‘Cloward-Piven Strategy’. The plan calls for the destruction of capitalism in America by swelling the welfare rolls to the point of collapsing our economy and then implementing socialism by nationalizing many private institutions,” explains a synopsis on the Worldview Radio website. “Cloward and Piven studied Saul Alinsky just like Hillary Clinton and President Obama.”Alinsky is considered to be the founder of modern community organizing in America. Alinsky’s teachings influenced Obama early in his career as a community organizer on the far South Side of Chicago. Obama worked for Gerald Kellman’s Developing Communities Project where he learned and taught Alinsky’s methods for community organizing. Obama would later work for ACORN (the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now.According to Sol Stern of the Manhattan Institute, ACORN is a modern successor of the radical 1960’s “New Left” and holds a “1960’s-bred agenda of anti-capitalism” to be implemented through “undisguised authoritarian socialism.”“This new and complete Revolution we contemplate can be defined in a very few words. It is … outright world-socialism, scientifically planned and directed,” H.G. Wells wrote in The New World Order. It is a brand of “undisguised authoritarian socialism” supported by the establishment. As the Union News reported last October, ACORN receives funding from the Robin Hood Foundation, a charity supported — to the tune $9,859,453 — by the globalist George Soros and his Soros Fund Charitable Foundation.“Soros is the visible side of a vast and nasty secret network of private financial interests, controlled by the leading aristocratic and royal families of Europe, centered in the British House of Windsor,” writes William Engdahl. According to Engdahl, Soros “is part of a tightly knit financial mafia — ‘mafia,’ in the sense of a closed masonic-like fraternity of families pursuing common aims.”As Antony Sutton documented (Wall Street & the Bolshevik Revolution), the very fount of “authoritarian socialism” was created and lavishly funded by the bankers. “The involvement of the Rockefellers with their supposed blood enemies, the Communists, dates back to the Bolshevik Revolution,” notes Gary Allen (None Dare Call it Conspiracy, chapter 6). “The Federal Reserve-CFR insiders began pushing to open up Communist Russia to U.S. traders soon after the revolution.”In addition, the bankers have supported “communism” in the United States. Considering this, it should come as no surprise the anti-capitalist “Cloward-Piven Strategy” was published by The Nation, a magazine with a well-documented connection to the CIA. As researcher Bob Feldman notes, The Nation is connected to the National Endowment for Democracy, a CIA front group involved in overthrowing countries around the world by way of “color revolution.” The CIA has a history of collaboration with the Ford Foundation (see James Petras: “The Ford Foundation and the CIA: A documented case of philanthropic collaboration with the Secret Police”).A d v e r t i s e m e n tIn 1954, Rowan Gaither of the Ford Foundation told Reese Commission investigator Norman Dodd that “the directives under which we operate is that we shall use our grant making power to alter life in the United States so that we can comfortably be merged with the Soviet Union.”This merging with the Soviet Union (or more accurately, “authoritarian socialism”) has nothing to do with the sort of communism taught in school textbooks — a dictatorship of the proletariat and the workers — but rather it is an authoritarian control system engineered by the bankers and the global elite. “This new and complete Revolution we contemplate can be defined in a very few words. It is … outright world-socialism, scientifically planned and directed,” H.G. Wells wrote in The New World Order. It is a mistake to believe the Cloward-Piven Strategy is scheme cooked up by academic Marxists of “New Left” bent dedicated to the destruction of capitalism in the name of some sort of vaguely defined humanitarianism. In fact, “the destruction of capitalism in America by swelling the welfare rolls to the point of collapsing our economy and then implementing socialism by nationalizing many private institutions” is a meticulous plan on the part of the global elite to consolidate power and destroy all opposition. It has nothing to do with liberating the proletariat but rather subjecting them to banker engineered “world-socialism, scientifically planned and directed” and devised to transform the planet into a banker dominated high-tech prison gulag.Print this page.Comment RulesLoginUsername:Password:Remember meRegisterLost your password?Comments are closed.

The folks who brought us the “Defend Public Education” actions last March in California, Wisconsin, New York and Michigan are planning a new round this year and will be drawing on the “energy” created by the violent, destructive riots in Europe. The Huffington Post reported last year about college students shutting down major freeways in California. In Wisconsin, protesters threw “punches and ice chunks” at police after the students were refused entry into an administration building in Madison. Now, plans are being made for a month of similar actions this year, kicking off March 2nd.Some activists have complained that unions are not currently leading the charge because they’ve become too “corporatist.” But they believe once they make their move, unions will move to “co-opt” the movement.“Student strikes” will occur in March to fight budget cuts and increased fees for students. What's happening in Europe is about to be emulated in America, friends.Radicals know this is one of their last opportunities to keep the gravy train running on time. But reality, courtesy of fed up taxpayers, may interrupt their plans. One of the movement’s leaders, Los Angeles high school teacher Omar Hussein, recruited “student militants” to support the March 4th protests in 2010. He’s a leader again this time around, according to sources within the movement. The month of “actions” will be capped off with a global action stemming from a huge union/socialist rally in London March 26th. As many as one million people will show their solidarity with those “in the firing line of the government’s cuts,” according to a statement posted on a public employee union website. The pro-big government radicals are in the planning stages of something similar in the United States. One radical from Arizona pledged that the actions will be “very militant” because what they’ve done so far hasn’t worked and “there are no other options now.”Radicals who fantasize about Che Guevara’s revolution, the Soviet States of America and the good ole days of Chairman Mao will soon be making their move. They’ll be doing their best to seize the current “crisis” and push their socialist agenda. Will they get anywhere? The big government agenda certainly had its wings clipped in the November election. But that doesn’t mean violence, upheaval and chaos can be stopped. And we shouldn’t kid ourselves that it’s simply a small band of “student militants” that break a few windows and celebrate at the local (fair trade) coffee house. When this action occurs, SEIU, AFL-CIO, NEA, AFT, NAACP and others will be right behind them to push the socialist agenda forward. This is the moment to stand up to them, crash their agenda and defend a free and capitalist America.Kyle OlsonKyle is founder and CEO of Education Action Group Foundation, a non-partisan non-profit organization

This transcription, dated August 22, 1972 was made from her Hotel Especen broadcast in Hanoi at 7:11 p.m.The following was submitted in the U.S. Congress House Committee on Internal Security, Travel to Hostile Areas. [HR16742, 19-25 September 1972, page 761]--------------------------------------------------------------------------------[Broadcast]This is Jane Fonda. During my two week visit in the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, I've had the opportunity to visit a great many places and speak to a large number of people from all walks of life- workers, peasants, students, artists and dancers, historians, journalists, film actresses, soldiers, militia girls, members of the women's union, writers.I visited the (Dam Xuac) agricultural coop, where the silk worms are also raised and thread is made. I visited a textile factory, a kindergarten in Hanoi. The beautiful Temple of Literature was where I saw traditional dances and heard songs of resistance. I also saw unforgettable ballet about the guerrillas training bees in the south to attack enemy soldiers. The bees were danced by women, and they did their job well.In the shadow of the Temple of Literature I saw Vietnamese actors and actresses perform the second act of Arthur Miller's play All My Sons, and this was very moving to me- the fact that artists here are translating and performing American plays while US imperialists are bombing their country.I cherish the memory of the blushing militia girls on the roof of their factory, encouraging one of their sisters as she sang a song praising the blue sky of Vietnam- these women, who are so gentle and poetic, whose voices are so beautiful, but who, when American planes are bombing their city, become such good fighters.I cherish the way a farmer evacuated from Hanoi, without hesitation, offered me, an American, their best individual bomb shelter while US bombs fell near by. The daughter and I, in fact, shared the shelter wrapped in each others arms, cheek against cheek. It was on the road back from Nam Dinh, where I had witnessed the systematic destruction of civilian targets- schools, hospitals, pagodas, the factories, houses, and the dike system. As I left the United States two weeks ago, Nixon was again telling the American people that he was winding down the war, but in the rubble- strewn streets of Nam Dinh, his words echoed with sinister (words indistinct) of a true killer. And like the young Vietnamese woman I held in my arms clinging to me tightly- and I pressed my cheek against hers- I thought, this is a war against Vietnam perhaps, but the tragedy is America's.One thing that I have learned beyond a shadow of a doubt since I've been in this country is that Nixon will never be able to break the spirit of these people; he'll never be able to turn Vietnam, north and south, into a neo- colony of the United States by bombing, by invading, by attacking in any way. One has only to go into the countryside and listen to the peasants describe the lives they led before the revolution to understand why every bomb that is dropped only strengthens their determination to resist. I've spoken to many peasants who talked about the days when their parents had to sell themselves to landlords as virtually slaves, when there were very few schools and much illiteracy, inadequate medical care, when they were not masters of their own lives. But now, despite the bombs, despite the crimes being created- being committed against them by Richard Nixon, these people own their own land, build their own schools- the children learning, literacy- illiteracy is being wiped out, there is no more prostitution as there was during the time when this was a French colony. In other words, the people have taken power into their own hands, and they are controlling their own lives. And after 4,000 years of struggling against nature and foreign invaders- and the last 25 years, prior to the revolution, of struggling against French colonialism- I don't think that the people of Vietnam are about to compromise in any way, shape or form about the freedom and independence of their country, and I think Richard Nixon would do well to read Vietnamese history, particularly their poetry, and particularly the poetry written by Ho Chi Minh.[recording ends]Tom Hayden and Jane Fonda being interviewed after their return from North Vietnam. Jane Fonda tells the world press that the American Prisoners of War were being well treated and not tortured.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Background of Jane Fonda's Anti-War ActivitiesWhile American Soldiers were fighting and dying in the Vietnam War, Jane Fonda, the daughter of Henry Fonda, was using her money and influence at colleges and universities to gather support to advocate communism and encourage rebellion and anarchy against the United States Government. On November 21, 1970 she told a University of Michigan audience of some two thousand students, "If you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would some day become communist." At Duke University in North Carolina she repeated what she had said in Michigan, adding "I, a socialist, think that we should strive toward a socialist society, all the way to communism. " Washington Times July 7, 2000Jane Fonda began her participation in anti-war activities around 1967, allegedly after meeting with Communists while in France and with American citizens who were revolutionaries. Her activities included active participation in demonstrations, rallies, radio broadcasts and plays.Jane Fonda also helped in the organization of a production group called the F.T.A. (F*** The Army). This group helped to set up coffee houses near military bases where they would perform anti-war derogatory-type sketches for the visiting soldiers. The coffee-house sketches were intended to counterpoint the U.S.O. shows, such as Bob Hope and other U.S.O. sponsored performers whose performances increased morale and gave positive support to American soldiers. Some of the F.T.A. coffee house employees would mingle with the soldiers to help them to "relax and unwind", while encouraging the soldiers to desert. Some soldiers alleged that they were promised jobs and money by the F.T.A. if they deserted. The Vietnam Veterans Against the War Organization received major financial support from Jane Fonda. Jane Fonda's F.T.A. coffee houses helped in recruiting soldiers and veterans for the Vietnam Veterans Against The War Organization. The Vietnam Veterans Against the War Organization membership was approximately 7,000 at it's highest. The Organization's membership number was comparatively low, when you consider that more than 2 1/2 million Americans served during the Vietnam war.Jane Fonda personally sought out returning American soldiers from Vietnam to solicit them to publicly speak out against American atrocities against Vietnamese women and children during her broadcasts. North Vietnamese officials based in Canada allegedly coordinated her broadcasts. In 1972 Jane Fonda, Tom Hayden and others traveled to North Vietnam to give their support to the North Vietnamese's Government. When she returned to the United States, she advised the news media that all of the American Prisoners of War were being well treated and were not being tortured. As the American POWs returned home in 1973, they spoke out about the inhumane treatment and torture they had suffered as prisoners of war. Their stories directly contradicted Jane Fonda's earlier statements of 1972. Some of the American POWs such as Senator John McCain, a former Presidential candidate, stated that he was tortured by his guards for refusing to meet with groups such as Jane Fonda's. Jane Fonda, in her response to these new allegations, referred to the returning POWs as being "hypocrites and liars."The Wall Street Journal (August 3, 1995) published an interview with Bui Tin who served on the General Staff of the North Vietnam Army and received the unconditional surrender of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975. During the interview Mr. Tin was asked if the American antiwar movement was important to Hanoi's victory. Mr. Tin responded "It was essential to our strategy" referring to the war being fought on two fronts, the Vietnam battlefield and back home in America through the antiwar movement on college campuses and in the city streets. He further stated the North Vietnamese leadership listened to the American evening news broadcasts "to follow the growth of the American antiwar movement."Visits to Hanoi made by persons such as Jane Fonda, former Attorney General Ramsey Clark and various church ministers "gave us confidence that we should hold on in the face of battlefield reverses." Mr. Tin surmised that "America lost because of its democracy; through dissent and protest it lost the ability to mobilize a will to win." Mr. Tin further advised that General Vo Nguyen Giap (Commanding General of the North Vietnam Army) said the 1968 Tet Offensive was a defeat. The military defeat of North Vietnam after the Tet Offensive of 1968 became a political victory for North Vietnam because of anti-war demonstrations and the sensationalism of the news media. The North Vietnamese interpreted the U.S. reaction to these events as the weakening of America's resolve to win the war. The North Vietnamese believed that victory could be theirs, if they stayed their course. From 1969 until the end of the war, over 20,000 American soldiers lost their lives in a war that the United States did not have the resolve to win. The sensationalism by the American news media and the anti-war protests following the 1968 Tet Offensive gave hope to Communist North Vietnam, strengthening their belief that their will to succeed was greater than ours. Instead of seeking a successful resolution at the Paris Peace Conference following the disastrous defeat of the 1968 Tet Offensive, they employed delay tactics as another tool to inflame U.S. politics. This delaying tactic spurned further anti-war demonstrations. Those who sensationalized their reporting of the war and those who supported anti-war demonstrations are guilty of giving our enemy hope. Because of their actions, they must share partial responsibility for those 20,000 + Americans deaths. We won the war on the battlefield but lost it back home on the college campuses and in the city streets.Americans must realize that there are agents* operating in this Country attempting to undermine our Country and it's leadership through our democratic principles in an effort to achieve a foreign country's goal. A prime example of such a person during the Vietnam War was Jane Fonda, an admitted Socialist, who blatantly supported North Vietnam. * Agent - Any person who works to obtain the goals of another nation either for money or for their own political beliefs.A valuable lesson was taught by North Vietnam to other nations on how the United States may be defeated by fighting a two front war - the battlefield and the American home front. We must be aware of this vulnerability. In 1975, after the fall of the South Vietnam Government, Jane Fonda returned to Hanoi with her newborn son Troy for a celebration in her honor for the work she had done for North Vietnam. During the celebration, her son was christened after a Viet Cong hero, Nguyen Van Troi. Troi had attempted to assassinate Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara while on his visit to South Vietnam in 1963. The South Vietnam Government executed Troi for this attempted assassination.I have heard and read that some people believe that Jane Fonda was simply young and impressionable. Jane Fonda was born on December 21, 1937. She was 34 years old when she made her infamous trip to North Vietnam and was in her 30's when she participated in anti-war demonstrations and rallies. During this same time period a large number of young American soldiers, who had not yet reached their 21st birthday, were fighting the war in Vietnam and were held accountable for all of their actions. These same young soldiers were, upon their return to the United States, still not of legal age to vote or buy alcoholic beverages. Jane Fonda was an adult when she made these conscious decisions and actions, and as such, she is responsible and should be held accountable. The Vietnam Memorial Wall contains the names of 25,493 American soldiers who served their Country and paid the ultimate price for freedom who were under the age of 21 ( Casualty Statistics). Many Veterans would have enjoyed seeing the following mug shot of Jane Fonda taken for her treasonous acts, instead of the bogus drug charge which was later dropped.

Next Page1| 2Previous PageFRANKFORT, Ky. — The Senate approved controversial legislation Friday that would expand the state's authority to enforce federal immigration law, sending it to the House where it faces uncertain prospects at best. The vote on Senate Bill 6 was 24-14, with all Republicans voting yes and all Democrats except Sen. Ray Jones of Pikeville voting no.Most Democrats warned that the cost of the bill for state and local governments has not been determined — and they said that cost will be big.But the bill's sponsor, Sen. John Schickel, R-Union, said the growing problem of illegal immigration is an urgent threat to the safety of Kentuckians.“We must protect our citizens, even if it's inconvenient, uncomfortable or too costly to do so,” Schickel said.House Speaker Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, said after the Senate vote that in his chamber SB 6 has “a lot of hills to climb. Aside from the policy issues involved, there's a concern about the fiscal impact of the bill.”The measure includes provisions that authorize police to attempt to determine a person's immigration status if he or she is stopped for another reason, such as a traffic violation, and is suspected of being an illegal immigrant. It also bans communities from adopting ordinances to limit immigration enforcement, creates the offense of trespassing for those in the state without legal status and makes it a crime for anyone to assist such a person in coming to live in the state. The bill is modeled on a controversial Arizona law, the enforcement of which was blocked last summer by a federal judge.Among other things, that law requires state officers to check a person’s immigration status while enforcing other laws and mandates that immigrants carry their papers at all times.Supporters of the Kentucky bill said at a packed Senate committee hearing on Thursday that illegal immigrants are driving up the costs of such things as emergency medical care and other community services.Opponents, including the Catholic Conference of Kentucky, said it offers only punitive measures with no solutions for law-abiding undocumented immigrants.(2 of 2)“Not only does it do nothing to repair the damage we suffer because federal lawmakers failed to act (on the problem), it damages the social fabric of our Kentucky community,” the Catholic Conference said in a statement Friday. In the Senate on Friday, it was the cost issue that was the main point raised by Democrats who opposed the bill.Senate Democratic Floor Leader R.J. Palmer of Winchester unsuccessfully tried to delay the vote on SB 6 because he said it did not carry a thorough fiscal impact statement, as required by Senate rules. However, Majority Leader Robert Stivers, R-Manchester, said a legislative staff analysis of the impact on the corrections systems for the original version of SB 6 was sufficient to meet the Senate's rules.Still, Sen. Kathy Stein, D-Lexington, said passing the bill would lead to higher costs for jails, local law enforcement, courts, and social service agencies.“It's one of the most fiscally irresponsible things we can do this session,” she said.Sen. Jerry Rhoads, D-Madisonville, said the bill is “actually a much harsher, stricter bill than the Arizona bill.”Jones said he voted for the bill because illegal immigration is a serious problem that should be addressed this session. But he also warned that the bill carries an undetermined cost.“And it's going to take money out of higher education, it's going to take money out of elementary and secondary education, it's going to take money from state police, it's going to take money from our local governments,” Jones said. But Schickel said the bill would also reduce certain costs now being paid.“Think of the fiscal impact of what we are doing now ... filling up our emergency rooms with people that are illegal aliens and have no insurance, the fiscal impact of people being illegally in our schools,” he said.Sen. Tom Jensen, R-London, said that despite his reservations about some details in the bill, it represents an important step in addressing a serious problem.“What this bill really does is send a message,” Jensen said. “It sends a message to the rest of our country and to foreign countries that we do not tolerate people coming into this country illegally.”Next Page1| 2Previous Page

Ky. Republicans File Immigration Bill As PromisedIllegal Immigrants Would Be Arrested For TrespassingPOSTED: 5:40 pm EST January 4, 2011Email PrintComments (1)FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Senate Republicans have followed through on a promise to file a bill aimed at cracking down on illegal immigrants in Kentucky on the first day of the 2011 legislative session.Republican state Sen. John Schickel, of Union, introduced the legislation on Tuesday, and Senate President David Williams said the measure could be approved and sent to the House for consideration by week's end.The measure would allow police to arrest illegal immigrants on trespassing charges for setting foot in Kentucky.Critics claim the legislation is broader than a law passed in Arizona that is facing legal challenges. The Kentucky measure would allow police to determine the immigration status of people they detain and to charge them with criminal trespass if found on public or private property in the state.

Omaha Steaks ‘Pulls’ Glenn Beck Advertising, Then Backtracks…Or Did It?Posted on December 18, 2010 at 8:44pm by Jonathon M. Seidl Print » Email » Earlier this week, Omaha Steaks reportedly caved to liberal pressure from StobBeck.com and Media Matters and dropped its advertising on all Glenn Beck programs. But there’s only one problem, Omaha Steaks says that never happened. Here’s how StopBeck.com reported the yanking on Thursday (emphasis by StopBeck) via Gateway Pundit:This morning, Omaha Steaks announced that they were removing their ads from Glenn Beck’s program (emphasis added):Omaha Steaks buys large units of national television advertising during the holiday season. This year, we bought a package of advertising through the Fox Network. We did not specifically request to be included on the Glenn Beck program. As part of our contract, the Omaha Steaks ads run in a variety of time slots throughout the day.We took your comments regarding the Glenn Beck Program to heart. After further review and careful consideration, we have decided to pull all advertising from Glenn Beck programming effective December 20th, 2010. Unfortunately, due to advertising cancellation policies, we were bound to continue possible ad placements through Sunday, December 19th.At Omaha, we greatly value the loyalty and support of our customers, fans and followers and thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.Great work all! See, your tweets and messages really do matter. It didn’t take long for Omaha Steaks to deny the report. By Thursday afternoon the company deleted its original announcement and replaced it with a “correction”:The staff writers of our blog responded incorrectly and I want to apologize for any confusion this may have caused. The facts are: we did not “pull” our ads from any show. Our holiday TV advertising contract ends on December 19th. Our contract never specified when our ads would air, only that they would air. Mr. Beck’s show is enjoyed by many, and we at Omaha Steaks hope our steaks are too. Our marketing is designed to speak to Americans who love steaks and great food, getting together with family and friends and giving gifts of great taste – no matter what TV shows they watch or what newspapers they read.Bruce SimonCEO, Omaha Steaks______________Omaha Steaks buys large units of national television advertising during the holiday season. This year, we bought a package of advertising through the Fox Network. We did not request to be included on specific program. As part of our contract, the Omaha Steaks ads run in a variety of time slots throughout the day.At Omaha Steaks, we greatly value the loyalty and support of our customers, fans and followers and thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention. But what exactly is Simon saying? His statement seems a little cryptic. Below the signature, it reads, “We did not request to be included on specific program” [sic]. It doesn’t say whether or not it requested not to be included in any time slot or on any program, only that it didn’t categorically “pull” its advertising.Additionally, the initial statement announcing the decision references “pulling” advertising after December 20, during what appears to be a new contract. Yet Simon‘s statement only talks about the company’s past contract, and says nothing about its plans going forward. Technically, a company can’t pull ads that have yet to air as part of a new contract. Simon, then, could be right. So too could the writers of the old statement. That’s because it seems the two statements are talking about completely different things. The point may be, well, technical, but in the business world many deals are made or lost on technicalities.Still, the confusion cuts both ways. In an update to its original story, StopBeck.com included the following:Omaha Steaks’ CEO posted a follow up statement this morning. At this point, I’m not sure what it means. I can’t tell if it’s designed to be cover given the backlash (at some points threatening) of Glenn Beck devotees or if they’re affirming support for Glenn Beck.Time will tell…That confusion, or at least the initial scathing post, is enough for Jim Hoft over at Gateway Pundit to go without meat from OS for a while:I enjoyed buying from Omaha Steaks in the past.I will not be calling Omaha Steaks this year.Perhaps unsurprisingly, Media Matters, which originally used StopBeck.com’s story as source to report on the “pulling,” has not updated its story with the correction.Comments (2)Bad Thunder

GovernmentOK Sen. Inhofe, Rep. Lucas Demand Answers After Fed Bans Christ from BankPosted on December 17, 2010 at 2:32pm by Jonathon M. Seidl Print » Email » Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and Rep. Frank Lucas (R-OK) have responded to recent news that the Federal Reserve forced a local Oklahoma bank to remove Bible verses, crosses, and Christmas buttons from its grounds because they could be considered offensive. In a letter to Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, and copied to Attorney General Eric Holder, the politicians say the move appears to be “without precedent” and may be in violation of “fundamental Constitutional protections.”The letter, obtained by The Blaze, goes on to say the lawmakers have “seldom encountered a more alarming case of heavy-handed interpretation and enforcement of Federal regulations to the exclusion of any other consideration or law, including the Supreme Law of the Land.”After outlining the controversy and the pair’s position, the letter requests an immediate response:

GovernmentFeds Force Bank to Remove Crosses, Bible Verses, and Christmas ButtonsPosted on December 17, 2010 at 12:46pm by Jonathon M. Seidl Print » Email » A small Oklahoma town is enraged after Federal Reserve examiners told a hometown bank that it must remove crosses, Bible verses, and Christmas buttons from display because they could be offensive. The bank says the Fed told it the Christian paraphernalia violated federal bank regulations.KOCO-TV reports:Federal Reserve examiners come every four years to make sure banks are complying with a long list of regulations. The examiners came to Perkins [the town] last week. And the team from Kansas City deemed a Bible verse of the day, crosses on the teller’s counter and buttons that say “Merry Christmas, God With Us.” were inappropriate. The Bible verse of the day on the bank’s Internet site also had to be taken down. [...]Specifically, the feds believed, the symbols violated the discouragement clause of Regulation B of the bank regulations. According to the clause, “…the use of words, symbols, models and other forms of communication … express, imply or suggest a discriminatory preference or policy of exclusion.”The feds interpret that to mean, for example, a Jew or Muslin or atheist may be offended and believe they may be discriminated against at this bank. It is an appearance of discrimination.Local residents were upset, with one woman calling it “absurd” while another man called it “ridiculous.”The news station says the bank has contacted Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhoffe (R) and U.S. Rep. Frank Lucas (R), as well as the Oklahoma Bankers association, for help.Comments (203)

GovernmentGOP Issues Ultimatum: Obama Must Veto Earmark-Laden Spending BillPosted on December 14, 2010 at 9:57pm by Meredith Jessup Print » Email » As we’ve reported, Congress is currently tackling a $1.1 trillion omnibus spending bill, significantly weighed down with 20,000 earmark requests. But Republicans are pushing back Tuesday evening as soon-to-be Speaker of the House John Boehner, R-Ohio, issued an ultimatum for President Barack Obama.“If President Obama is truly serious about ending earmarks, he should oppose Senate Democrats’ pork-laden omnibus spending bill and announce he will veto it if necessary,” Boehner challenged in a statement. “This bill represents exactly what the American people have rejected: more spending, more earmarks, and more big government. Republicans strongly oppose this last-ditch spending spree, a smack in the face to taxpayers at a time when we’re borrowing 40 cents of every dollar we spend. Senate Democrats even go so far as to plow more than $1 billion into implementing ObamaCare, despite a growing national revolt against this job-killing health care law.”Additionally, Boehner stressed that the need to stop Washington’s “job-killing spending binge“ will be a ”top priority” for the new Republican majority in the House of Representatives when lawmakers return for the start of the 112th Congress in January. “We have already banned earmarks and made a pledge to America to end the practice of omnibus bills like this disgrace and cut spending to pre-‘stimulus,’ pre-bailout levels. Instead of making reckless spending decisions in the waning days of the lame-duck session, Senate Democrats should stand down so we can get to work on cleaning up Washington’s fiscal mess.”Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell echoed Boehner’s sentiments Tuesday during a press conference in which he remarked the battle over the pork-laden bill is “eerily similar” to the divisive battle over spending last year:RedState is in the process of dissecting the newly released omnibus bill; here’s a sampling of some egregious spending projects found so far:$247,000 – Virus free grapes in Washington State$413,000 – Peanut research in Alabama$125,000 – Fishery equipment for the Guam Fisherman’s Cooperative Association$349,000 – Swine waste management in North Carolina$277,000 – Potato pest management in Wisconsin$246,000 – Bovine tuberculosis treatment in Michigan and Minnesota$522,000 – Cranberry and blueberry disease and breeding in New Jersey$500,000 – Oyster safety in Florida$400,000 – Solar parking canopies and plug-in electric stations in Kansas$165,000 – Maple syrup research in VermontClick here to view the full 1,924-page bill.Comments (22)

Ted Turner Suggests Child Offsets; Poor People Overcrowding Planet, Obstructing View of His Vacant 2 Million Acres Ted Turner has five kids. If you have more than one, your killing the planet. This guy gets more whacked by the second: Mr. Turner – a long-time advocate of population control – said the environmental stress on the Earth requires radical solutions, suggesting countries should follow Chinas lead in instituting a one-child policy to reduce global population over time. He added that fertility rights could be sold so that poor people could profit from their decision not to reproduce. Don’t you love how Turner just assumes that it’s on “the poor” to stop having kids? Who has a bigger carbon footprint — poor kids living in small dwellings and walking everywhere, or the children of billionaires who borrow dad’s private jet to go to the prom? Isn’t there a more polite way for Ted to essentially say “the rich should inherit the earth and the poor should just f-in die off” than this? I’ll give him points though for trying to add a hearty dose of free market capitalism to his push for totalitarian ecocide. Ted will do anything to avoid allowing anybody on this horribly overpopulated planet to live on his two million acres of land! Last year, Turner, along with Bill Gates, David Rockefeller Jr, Warren Buffett, George Soros, Michael Bloomberg and Oprah “I am not a lesbian!” Winfrey met in Manhattan and decided the world has too many non-billionair

EducationTeacher Assigns Students to Read About ‘Wine-Guzzling Socialist’ Jesus ChristPosted on December 6, 2010 at 7:25pm by Meredith Jessup Print » Email » Some parents in Bedford, N.H., are calling for action against school officials who assigned their teenagers a book that refers to Jesus Christ as a “wine-guzzling vagrant and precocious socialist.”The book, “Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting By in America,” was assigned as a project of a personal finance class at Bedford High School. One child’s parents took their complaints to school district officials who put together a committee of teachers, administrators and community members to assess the book. According to the committee’s review, the book’s “educational merit” outweighed its questionable passages.“We found the book provided valuable insight into the circumstances of the working poor and an opportunity for students to demonstrate mastery of the ‘Financial Impact’ competency,” the committee reported. But the committee’s findings did not sit well with Dennis and Aimee Taylor whose son had been assigned the book. “We had almost PhD people letting this fumble through their fingers, and they all said it was grand,” Dennis, a conservative Christian, told the Union-Leader. “I think there should be a review of these individuals and perhaps some firing done.”“Nickel and Dimed” is a first-person account of author Barbara Ehrenreich’s failed attempts to make a living at various minimum wage jobs across the country. Written in response to 1996 welfare reform, the book offers a serious critique of the current economic system, which Ehrenreich argues preys on the poor. …The Taylors also took issue with the book’s portrayal of Christians. In one scene, Ehrenreich attends a tent revival meeting, and is troubled by its emphasis on Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, rather than his social teachings.“Jesus makes his appearance here only as a corpse; the living man, the wine-guzzling vagrant and precocious socialist, is never once mentioned, nor anything he ever had to say,” Ehrenreich writes. In addition to its unsavory characterization of Christ, the Taylors also complained about the book’s use of obscene language and anti-capitalist message.“The author is a known social Marxist, hates everything American, everything that America stands for or was built on,” Aimee Taylor said. “I mean when you read the book you see that strongly in this woman’s agenda. It’s horrible.”Indeed, the author of the book, Barbara Ehrenreich, is an ardent political activist on the left who praises socialism and the redistribution of wealth, calls for the end of free-market capitalism and even happily celebrates the anniversary of Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto. (Click here for the “Teacher’s Guide“ to ”Nickel and Dimed.”)Bedford Assistant Superintendent Chip McGee told the Union-Leader that the book committee had decided the author’s work as a whole was a worthwhile read for students. “We need to balance the instructional value of the book against its shortcomings, rather than looking at any isolated passage, and rather than looking at the belief system of the author,” McGee said.In response to parents’ complaints, the school district has implemented a new policy requiring teachers to notify parents before assigning books in class. If parents object, an alternative is to be provided. In the meantime, the Taylors have begun homeschooling their son and are reportedly planning to attend an upcoming Dec. 13 meeting of the Bedford School District to request the book be removed from the curriculum.Perhaps the Taylors’ homeschooling curriculum will include “Scratch Beginnings” — a book written by Adam Shepard, a graduate of Merrimack College who set out to live the American Dream with just $25. Shepard‘s book was conceived as a counter response to Ehrenreich’s “Nickel and Dimed” and “Bait and Switch.”Comments (78)Comments Page

That‘s is the apparent theme of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery’s Christmas season exhibition. According to CNSNews.com, the federal funded gallery’s exhibit features “images of an ant-covered Jesus, male genitals, naked brothers kissing, men in chains, Ellen Degeneres grabbing her breasts and a painting the Smithsonian itself describes in the show‘s catalog as ’homoerotic.’”The exhibit, “Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture,” opened on Oct. 30 and will run throughout the Christmas Season, closing on Feb. 13.“This is an exhibition that displays masterpieces of American portraiture and we wanted to illustrate how questions of biography and identity went into the making of images that are canonical,” David C. Ward, a National Portrait Gallery (NGP) historian who is also co-curator of the exhibit, told CNSNews.com.According to the museum itself, the exhibit shows a commitment to “showing how a major theme in American history has been the struggle for justice so that people and groups can claim their full inheritance in America’s promise of equality, inclusion and social dignity… These themes, historic and artistic, come together in ‘Hide/Seek: Difference and Desire in American Portraiture,’ the first major exhibition to examine the influence of gay and lesbian artists in creating modern American portraiture.”“‘Hide/Seek’ chronicles how, as outsiders, gay and lesbian artists occupied a position that turned to their advantage, making essential contributions to both the art of portraiture and to the creation of modern American culture,” a plaque posted at the exhibit states. The Smithsonian’s annual budget is $761 million, with $495 million being contributed by American taxpayers via federal government funds. According to a Smithsonian spokesperson, the National portrait gallery received $5.8 million in federal funding during fiscal year 2010, although the Smithsonian notes that taxpayer dollars are not used to pay for individual exhibits, including the “Hide/Seek” exhibit.CNSNews.com describes a portion of the exhibit — two videos shown on a television screen as part of the “Hide/Seek” piece:“The Pink Narcissus” is a video released in 1971 by James Bidgood (b. 1933). The National Portrait Gallery’s description for the video says, “The film is a surreal portrait of the youth’s emergence into gay life, his coming out symbolized by the metaphor of a caterpillar’s metamorphosis into a butterfly.” The video was originally 71 minutes long, and has been edited down to 7 minutes for display in the museum, according to the description.“A Fire in My Belly” was created by David Wojnarowicz (1954-1992). The full-length version of this 1987 video, according to the description at the exhibit, is 30 minutes long. The version viewable in the National Portrait Gallery has been edited down to 4 minutes. The description says, “A Fire in My Belly, a compilation of footage largely shot in Mexico, weaves together numerous images of loss, pain, and death into a metaphor for the AIDS epidemic; it concludes in a picture of the world aflame.”The description speaks of the video artist’s ”poetic, yet furious, condemnation of the way greed, religion, and selfishness conspire to label certain people as outside the scope of our caring.” It also quotes Wojnarowicz, who died of AIDS, as saying, “When I was told I’d contracted the virus, it didn’t take long for me to realize that I’d contracted a diseased society as well.”The four-minute version of the video shown in the exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery shows, among other images, ants crawling over the image of Jesus on a crucifix, two halves of a loaf of bread being sewn together, the bloody mouth of a man being sewn shut, a hand dropping coins, a man undressing, a man’s genitals, a bowl of blood, and mummified humans. For more from CNSNews, click here.Comments (61)Comments Page 2 →Page 1 of 2
