The following recent thought-provoking article revealed that allegedly among the many resources that The Patriot Post uses to complement their analysis of news, policy and opinion is National Review, founded by William F. Buckley in 1955 because NR has always been the intellectual standard for the conservative movement, though its editors sometimes get it wrong, as in the case of the candidacy of Donald Trump.

It also revealed that allegedly, as with many “old guard” conservative publications, NR was befuddled both by Trump’s appeal and his ultimate election on November 8, 2016, and its editors still demonstrate some confusion about Trump’s populist support and that the perplexity is rooted in the fact that many conservative intellectuals, most of whom reside inside the DC Beltway or in other equally high-brow protectorates like New York City, are disconnected from both the grassroots American Patriots who elected Donald Trump and those who didn’t initially support Trump, but have since boarded the Trump Train to Make American Great Again.

Additionally, it also revealed that its grassroots disconnect notwithstanding, National Review still has, in the author’s considered opinion, the best stable of political writers on the planet, far superior to those at The Atlantic, The New Republic and the rest of the Leftmedia propaganda machine. And allegedly there are a few NR writers whom the author follows closely and one of those is Andrew McCarthy, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. A few of his more notable prosecutions include the 1995 conviction of Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman and 11 others responsible for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing (and who planned additional attacks against other New York City landmarks). McCarthy was also key to the prosecutions of the terrorists who bombed our U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. For the last 15 years, McCarthy has been a senior fellow at the National Review Institute.

He’s also the author’s go-to guy for legal insights and analysis, which are meticulously outlined by the author in this article regarding the collusion to entrap Trump by Barack Obama’s CIA director, John Brennan; Obama’s FBI director, James Comey (and his high-ranking co-conspirators); and their candidate, Hillary Clinton, and her corrupt campaign. This cadre of Obama’s deep-state operatives has allegedly endeavored to frame Mr. Trump for “colluding with Russia” to throw the 2016 election, or to at least create the false impression that his election was illegitimate-You Decide:

But switch on CNN or flip through the Washington Post and you will find the non-stop politics of personal destruction accompanied by Fortune 500 ads. liar-Clinton supporters in the media aren’t just obsessed with Stormy Daniels or Russia conspiracy theories, but with destroying the lives of Trump supporters, from cabinet members to a random New York lawyer who once donated $500 to Trump.

liar-Bill Clinton may have popularized the politics of personal destruction, but practicing its politics cost liar-Hillary Clinton the ’16 election. liar-Hillary’s message was that her opponent was a deplorable bigot who would move the White House to Moscow. Millions of Americans left behind by the crony socialism of the liar-nObama economy and looking to change the change were not impressed with her hateful message. 

And now the Democrats are making the same mistake all over again. 

While the Republicans talked about the economy, the Democrats turned over their messaging to CNN, the Washington Post and the rest of the #resistance. While the media tethered its news cycle to Stormy Daniels and her lawyer, the economy boomed and tax cuts delivered. The Democrats went into spring with a solid advantage on the midterm ballot. Then the GOP broke even and has now taken the lead. 

CNN thinks that the Stormy Daniels sleazefest matters, but even a majority of Democrats disagree. 

The politics of personal destruction are deeply compelling to people who already believe that their opponents are utterly deplorable and must be destroyed. These days that’s the entire media and most of the beautiful people in the blue states who have the cultural influence and the real power. That’s why the media is a non-stop roll of interviews with Stormy’s lawyer, flowcharts of Russian conspiracy theories and breaking news reports claiming that EPA administrator Scott Pruitt eats stale bagels. 

The #resistance demographic of yuppie urban elites made old media properties like the Washington Post and the New York Times profitable. CNN temporarily experienced a boom. #Resistance yuppies and hipsters weren’t very electorally significant as voters except when they donated to obscure candidates in red state special elections, but they had lots of money to spare. That’s why media advertisers were willing to pay big bucks to reach them. And why the media kept feeding them anti-Trump clickbait. 

In ’16, the media made the unwise decision to ignore everything except the big blue urban and suburban bubble. In ’18, it’s back to pandering to its bubble and ignoring the rest of the country. 

Because the rest of the country doesn’t share its obsession with destroying President Trump. 

The Democrats were hollowed out by the left. The big tent was deflated. Pro-gun, pro-natsec and pro-life politicians were shoved toward the exits. But the hollowing out of the left also meant that the party came to orbit around the tastes, obsessions and attitudes of a tiny percentage of the country. 

It’s why the Democrats can’t stop shouting about impeachment and Russian conspiracies. 

Efforts by Rep. Nancy Pulosi and other top Dems to shift messaging always runs into a ditch because Rep. mad-Maxine Waters, Rep. Ted Lieu and other #resistance pols know that support from the most engaged portion of the base will pour in for any politicians who talks impeachment. If you threaten impeachment, CNN will give you 5 minutes. If you want to talk about the economy, you get 5 seconds. 

The politics of personal destruction can entertain and influence most Americans, but it doesn’t drive them. Trump’s insults succeeded as entertainment because they were tactical stratagems that didn’t define a political worldview. However the left doesn’t just toss around insults. It believes that its abuse is reflective of a higher truth about the relative humanity of Democrats and Republicans. 

And that’s why their politics of personal destruction keeps flopping against President Trump. 

The difference between humor and malice lies in how seriously it’s meant. Stewart, Colbert and Oliver tried to get under the fence by being self-deprecating. But it’s not the deprecation of the self that matters. It’s the deprecation of the worldview of the joke. Liberating humor treats the entire world as a joke. Totalitarian humor is a contemptuous lecture, a bray of consensus, disguised as a gag. 

To most Americans, personal attacks are a joke. But the left is entirely serious about them. 

The cult of the left truly believes in its own moral authority. It expects Americans to vote based on its personal attacks. But most Americans are independent. They’re driven by self-interest, not ideology. 

Both Middle America and the Blues are voting their economic interests. Trump is delivering more manufacturing jobs. The Dems promise more employment for sociology majors. But the Blues insist on cloaking their economic opportunism in moral preening. The politics of personal destruction and virtue signaling allows them to avoid any discussion about their own financial interests in politics. 

Instead political campaigns are reduced to a struggle between ‘good’ and ‘evil’. And the triumph of ‘good’ will, incidentally, unleash a torrent of grant money for bad art, green energy and ethnic studies. 

Follow the money. 

liar-Hillary Clinton ran on a negative message because it diverted attention from her corruption and lack of ideas. Her party is stupidly repeating the same trick in ’18 for the same sad reasons. 

The Democrats are corrupt and have no new ideas. Their media megaphone allows them to shout at the rest of the country even as they have lost the ability to actually speak to ordinary Americans. 

Doubling down on hating Trump has won a few special elections and created a constitutional crisis, but the midterm trend is moving toward Republicans because bigger tax refunds beat Saturday Night Live skits. 

Politics may be downstream of culture, but they’re both downstream of economics. 

There’s a reason that ‘Follow the Money’ is the timeless truth of politics. Individuals may vote contrary to their apparent economic interests, but groups rarely do. Not never, there are always aberrations. When it comes to politics, the ‘wisdom of crowds’ has a distinct dollars and cents bottom line. 

The left bet everything on culture trumping economics in the midterm elections. 

It assumed that it could override the economic self-interest of millions of Americans with conspiracy theories, Stormy Daniels and a thousand personal attacks. It failed in ’16. And it’s about to fail in ’18. 

The left bet everything on hating Trump. And that’s about to cost it a second election.

In the space of the next few hours, a judge tried, convicted, and sentenced him to 13 months in jail -- and also issued a gag order, demanding a total news blackout on the case in the British news media. Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, was immediately taken to Hull Prison. Most media outlets were remarkably compliant. News stories that had already been posted online after Robinson's arrest at the Scottish Daily Record, Birmingham Live, The Mirror, RT, and Breitbart News were promptly pulled down, although, curiously, a report remained up at the  Independent, a left-wing broadsheet that can be counted on to view Robinson as a hooligan. Indeed, the Independent's article described Robinson as "far-right" and, in explaining what he was doing outside the courthouse, used scare quotes around the word "reporting"; it then summed up the least appealing episodes in his career and blamed him for an attack on the Finsbury Park Mosque last January. Somehow, the Independent also got away with publishing a report on London's Saturday rally in support of Robinson...

Syrian Air Force bars Iran from using its bases

{ jpost.com } ~ The commander of the Syrian Air Force has decided Syria will no longer allow Iranian-backed Shi’ite factions to use its bases... to store ammunition and host fighters, the Syrian opposition newspaper Zaman al-Wasl reported on Monday. The report claims that the decision was made "following recent Israeli attacks."  Citing a source in the Syrian army, the report stated that this is the first step in a process leading to a Syrian demand that Iranian backed-forces leave Syria. The report goes on to claim that the Syrian regime is experiencing panic since Israel attacked Syrian Air Force sites used by Iranian-backed forces...

Federal Agency Known for Fraud & Waste Finances Own Attacks

Known as Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing(AFFH), the policy aims to transform nearly all of the nation’s neighborhoods with unprecedented low-income housing quotas and preferred ethnic and racial formulas. AFFH also requires federal and local governments to spend tens of millions of dollars annually gathering statistics on racial and ethnic concentrations in America’s neighborhoods. In January HUD Secretary Ben Carson delayed the implementation of AFFH, which he describes  as a government-engineered attempt to legislate racial equality. This month Carson finally suspended the contentious program altogether, revealing in a statement that the tool used to comply with AFFH is confusing, difficult to use and frequently produced unacceptable assessments. In its 18-page Federal Register notice HUD states that it has spent over $3.5 million on technical assistance for the initial round of AFFH submissions from local governments across the nation. “HUD is withdrawing the Tool to produce a more effective and less burdensome Assessment Tool,” the notice reads. “These improvements to the Tool will make it more effective in assisting program participants with the creation of meaningful assessments with impactful fair housing goals to help them plan to fulfill their legal obligation to affirmatively further fair housing.”...

{ townhall.com } ~ U.S. threats to crush Iran and North Korea may yet work, but as of now neither Tehran nor Pyongyang appears to be intimidated.

Repeated references by NSC adviser John Bolton and Vice President Mike Pence to the "Libya model" for denuclearization of North Korea just helped sink the Singapore summit of President Trump and Kim Jong Un. To North Korea, the Libya model means the overthrow and murder of Libya strongman Col. Gadhafi, after he surrendered his WMD.

Wednesday, North Korean Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui exploded at Pence's invocation of Libya: "Vice-President Pence has made unbridled and impudent remarks that North Korea might end like Libya ... I cannot suppress my surprise at such ignorant and stupid remarks.

"Whether the U.S. will meet us at a meeting room or encounter us at nuclear-to-nuclear showdown is entirely dependent upon the decision and behavior of the United States."

Yesterday, Trump canceled the Singapore summit.

Earlier this week at the Heritage Foundation, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo laid out our Plan B for Iran in a speech that called to mind Prussian Field Marshal Karl Von Moltke.

Among Pompeo's demands: Iran must end all support for Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthi rebels in Yemen, and Hamas in Gaza, withdraw all forces under Iranian command in Syria, and disarm its Shiite militia in Iraq.

Iran must confess its past lies about a nuclear weapons program, and account publicly for all such activity back into the 20th century.

Iran must halt all enrichment of uranium, swear never to produce plutonium, shut down its heavy water reactor, open up its military bases to inspection to prove it has no secret nuclear program, and stop testing ballistic missiles.

And unless Iran submits, she will be strangled economically.

What Pompeo delivered was an ultimatum: Iran is to abandon all its allies in all Mideast wars, or face ruin and possible war with the USA.

It is hard to recall a secretary of state using the language Pompeo deployed: "We will track down Iranian operatives and their Hezbollah proxies operating around the world and crush them. Iran will never again have carte blanche to dominate the Middle East."

But how can Iran "dominate" a Mideast that is home to Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Egypt, as well as U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Iraq, the Persian Gulf, the Arabian Sea and Syria?

To Iran's east is a nuclear-armed Pakistan. To its west is a nuclear-armed U.S. Fifth Fleet and a nuclear-armed Israel. Iran has no nukes, no warships to rival ours and a 1970s air force.

Yet, this U.S.-Iran confrontation, triggered by Trump's trashing of the nuclear deal and Pompeo's ultimatum, is likely to end one of three ways:

First, Tehran capitulates, which is unlikely, as President Hassan Rouhani retorted to Pompeo: "Who are you to decide for Iran and the world? We will continue our path with the support of our nation." Added Ayatollah Khamenei, "Iran's presence in the region is our strategic depth."

Second, Iran defies U.S. sanctions and continues to support its allies in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Yemen. This would seem likely to lead to collisions and war.

Third, the U.S. could back off its maximalist demands, as Trump backed off Bolton's demand that Kim Jong Un accept the Libyan model of total and verifiable disarmament before any sanctions are lifted.

Where, then, are we headed?

While our NATO allies are incensed by Trump's threat to impose secondary sanctions if they do not re-impose sanctions on Tehran, the Europeans are likely to cave in to America's demands. For Europe to choose Iran over a U.S. that has protected Europe since the Cold War began and is an indispensable market for Europe's goods would be madness.

Vladimir Putin appears to want no part of an Iran-Israel or U.S.-Iran war and has told Bashar Assad that Russia will not be selling Damascus his S-300 air defense system. Putin has secured his bases in Syria and wants to keep them.

As for the Chinese, she will take advantage of the West's ostracism of Iran by drawing Iran closer to her own orbit.

Is there a compromise to be had?

Perhaps, for some of Pompeo's demands accord with the interests of Iran, which cannot want a war with the United States, or with Israel, which would likely lead to war with the United States.

Iran could agree to release Western prisoners, move Shiite militia in Syria away from the Golan Heights, accept verifiable restrictions on tests of longer-range missiles and establish deconfliction rules for U.S. and Iranian warships in the Persian Gulf.

Reward: aid from the West and renewed diplomatic relations with the United States.

Surely, a partial, verifiable nuclear disarmament of North Korea is preferable to war on the peninsula. And, surely, a new nuclear deal with Iran with restrictions on missiles is preferable to war in the Gulf.

Again, we cannot make the perfect the enemy of the good.

Senator Grassley Blasts DOJ for Redacting Strzok-Page Texts

{ townhall.com } ~ Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley sent a letter to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein Wednesday asking for the remaining redactions of text messages between FBI Agents Peter Strzok and Lisa Page to be removed. Strzok and Page are the agents who were busted earlier this year for anti-Trump, pro-liar-Clinton bias during the 2016 presidential election.

According to the letter, the redactions appear to be improper and cover information, including lavish spending and FBI investigations, the American people deserve to see. There's also a redacted reference to an investigation being led by the liar-nObama White House.

"On May 1, 2018, and May 18, 2018, Committee staff reviewed in camera less redacted versions of the Strzok and Page text message productions provided to the Committee.  On several occasions, my staff have requested that the Department of Justice provide the Committee with a redaction key, to no avail.  Thus, the Committee is still in the dark about the justification the Department is relying upon to withhold that information from Congress," the letter states. "As one example of redacted material, in a text message produced to the Committee, the price of Andrew McCabe’s $70,000 conference table was redacted. In another, an official’s name was redacted in reference to a text about the liar-nObama White House 'running' an investigation, although it is unclear to which investigation they were referring."

"In order to see under the redactions, Committee staff had to travel to main Justice to review a lesser redacted version.  When viewing the still redacted portions in context with the unredacted material, it appeared that the redacted portions may contain relevant information relating to the Committee’s ongoing investigation into the manner in which the Department of Justice and FBI handled the Clinton and Russia investigations," the letter continues (bolding is mine). "Congress, and the public, have a right to know how the Department spends taxpayer money.  I am unaware of any legitimate basis on which the cost of a conference table should be redacted.  Embarrassment is not a good enough reason.  The manner in which some redactions have been used casts doubt on whether the remaining redactions are necessary and defensible."

Grassley has asked for the message to be turned over in unredacted form by June 6.

Human nature being what it is it should come as no shock that the next level of approved gambling in America is sports betting. States already have casinos, the lottery and other ways of separating money from the weak for their ravenous and bottomless coffers, so why not allow betting on sports contests?

The question should answer itself, but in our increasingly permissive culture where anything goes and the standard that once delineated right from wrong and measured what best promoted the common good has gone with the wind.

The Supreme Court last week struck down a 1992 federal law that had effectively banned commercial sports betting in most states. That, according to the New York Times, opens the door "...to legalizing the estimated $150 billion in illegal wagers on professional and amateur sports that Americans make every year."

The law the decision overturned -- the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act -- prohibited states from authorizing sports gambling. Among its sponsors was Sen. Bill Bradley (D-NJ), a former college and professional basketball player. He said the law was needed to safeguard the integrity of sports.

Bradley was right, though sports have been compromised for many years. During my brief college playing career, the basketball head coach passed out "food money" after games. Players who did especially well received more food money than those who scored fewer points. It's gotten much worse since then.

There have been financial scandals involving thrown fights and shaved points extending back at least as far as the Black Sox scandal of 1919 where some Chicago White Sox players agreed to throw games to benefit gamblers.

The Supreme Court decision has removed even a veil of disapproval from sports gambling and what was once reserved for Las Vegas and illicit bookies will now go national. Already I am receiving emails inviting me to wager on various sports.

Gambling addiction has become a serious problem in America. According to the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), 15 percent of Americans gamble at least once a week.

Approximately two percent to three percent of Americans meet the criteria for problem gambling. That's around 6 million adults and about a half million teens.

Young people risk developing a gambling problem at a rate of about two to three times that of adults, and approximately 6 percent of college students in America have a gambling problem.

NCPG research says roughly 40 percent of people with a gambling problem started gambling before the age of 17.

If that isn't enough, consider these statistics:

-- NCPG notes the annual cost associated with gambling (crime, addiction and bankruptcy) is $17 billion.

-- Approximately 76 percent of problem gamblers are likely to have a major depressive disorder.

-- The NPCG also says children of problem gamblers are at higher risk for a number of behaviors, including problem gambling, tobacco use and drug use.

-- Oregon Problem Gambling Resource states that about 10 percent to 17 percent of children of problem gamblers and about 25 percent to 50 percent of spouses of problem gamblers have been abused.

-- Georgia State University (GSU) estimates that about 50 percent of problem gamblers commit crimes, and about two-thirds of those crimes were directly related to the gambling.

-- GSU also notes that 73 percent of people who are incarcerated are identified as problem gamblers.

An Australian study found that one in five suicidal patients had a gambling problem.

Players, who make less than astronomical salaries might be tempted by gamblers to perform at sub-par levels in exchange for payments.

This is a bad bet on many levels, except for state and local governments, which will show they care less about the effects on people and more about all the additional tax money they will take in.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, in his first major policy address, called on Iran to shutdown its heavy water nuclear power plants, which were allowed by the liar-nObama administration under the landmark nuclear agreement and laid the groundwork for Tehran and Russia to ink multi-billion dollar deals to build new nuclear reactors throughout the country, construction that is already underway. Pompeo's demand is being met with support within the Trump administration and on Capitol Hill. Opponents of the nuclear agreement told the Washington Free Beacon it jibes with ongoing efforts by Congress to strangle Iran's nuclear enrichment facilities..This should of been done 9 years ago.

The tribute was in response to a Hamas-designed “protest” to charge the Gaza border with Israel – a “protest” designed to “take down the border and tear out their hearts from their bodies,” according to Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, referring to Hamas’ intentions regarding Israeli civilians. Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood-linked group in Gaza, was designated as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by the U.S. in 1997. Armed with maps of Jewish communities – including daycare centers, schools and synagogues — the terror organization instructed protesters to bring guns and knives to the border...These kids need to be educated about the truth.

{ townhall.com } ~ This past weekend, President Donald Trump suggested that his presidential campaign may have been the victim of spies or moles who were FBI informants or undercover agents. He demanded an investigation to get to the bottom of the matter.

At the same time that the president was fuming over this, Republican congressional leaders were fuming about the reluctance of senior officials at the Department of Justice and the FBI to turn over documents that might reveal political origins of the current criminal investigation of the president by special counsel Robert Mueller.

Can the president intercede in a federal criminal investigation of which he himself is a subject? Can Congress intercede in a DOJ criminal investigation? Here is the back story.

Mueller was named special counsel so he could investigate serious and demonstrable evidence of Russian government interference in the 2016 presidential election. Because the Trump campaign met with Russian intelligence officials offering campaign assistance, implicit in that investigation is an inquiry into whether the Trump campaign invited foreign interference and agreed to accept or facilitate it.

Mueller is seeking to determine whether there was an agreement between the Trump campaign and any foreign person, entity or government to receive anything of value for the campaign. Such an agreement plus a material step in furtherance of it taken by any of those who joined the agreement would itself constitute the crime of conspiracy, even if the agreed-upon thing of value never arrived.

In the course of examining evidence for the existence of this alleged conspiracy -- which Trump has forcefully denied many times -- Mueller's prosecutors and FBI agents have come upon evidence of other crimes. They have obtained 19 indictments -- some for financial crimes, some for lying to FBI agents and some for foreign interference in the election -- and four guilty pleas for lying, in which those who pleaded guilty agreed to assist the government.

Nine of the indictments are against Russian intelligence agents, whom the president himself promptly sanctioned by barring their travel here and their use of American banks and commercial enterprises, even though he has called Mueller's investigation a witch hunt.

Mueller has also come upon evidence of obstruction of justice by the president while in office and financial crimes prior to entering office, all of which Trump has denied. Obstruction of justice consists of interfering with a judicial proceeding -- such as a grand jury's hearing evidence -- for a corrupt purpose.

Thus, if Trump fired FBI Director James Comey because he didn't trust him or because he wanted his own person in that job, that was his presidential prerogative, but Trump's purpose was corrupt if he fired Comey because Comey would not deny that the president was the subject of a criminal investigation -- a basis for firing surprisingly offered publicly by one of the president's own lawyers.

The potential financial crimes appear to be in the areas of bank fraud -- making material misrepresentations to banks to obtain loans -- and money laundering, or the passage of ill-gotten gains through numerous bank accounts so as to make the gains appear lawful. These, too, Trump has denied.

It seems that the deeper Mueller and his team dig the more they find. As lawyers and as federal prosecutors, Mueller's team members have ethical obligations to uncover whatever evidence of crime they come upon and, when professionally feasible and legally appropriate, either prosecute or pass the evidence on to other federal prosecutors, as they did in the case of evidence of fraud against Michael Cohen, a former confidant and lawyer for Trump before he was president.

Now, back to Trump's eruption about FBI spies or moles.

The president cannot interfere with criminal investigations against himself without running the risk of additional charges of obstruction of justice -- interference with a judicial process the gathering of evidence and its presentation to a grand jury for a corrupt purpose impeding his own prosecution or impeachment. Nor can members of Congress see whatever they want in the midst of a criminal investigation, particularly if they might share whatever they see with the person being investigated.

Prosecutors have a privilege to keep their files secret until they reach the time that the law provides for them to go public. Because Mueller is faced with the legal equivalent of assembling a 10,000-piece jigsaw puzzle, he is not yet ready to show his cards. If his cards contain materials from confidential sources -- people whose identities he promised not to reveal -- or if his cards contain evidence he presented to a grand jury, he may not lawfully reveal what he has until it is time to exonerate the president, indict him or present a report to Mueller's DOJ superiors that is intended for the House of Representatives.

Can the president investigate his investigators?

Yes -- but not until the investigation of him is completed. That's because no one can fruitfully examine the legitimacy of the origins of the case against Trump without knowing the evidence and the charges. Trump's allegations are of extreme scandal -- the use of FBI assets by the liar-nObama administration to impede his presidential campaign. Yet if he is exonerated, those allegations will lose their sting. If he is charged with crimes or impeachable offenses that do not have their origins in politically charged spying, then his allegations will be moot.

But if he were to force the DOJ to turn over raw investigative files now to politicians who want to help him, he might very well be impeding the criminal case against him. That would be profoundly threatening to the rule of law, for it provides that no man can be the prosecutor or the judge in his own case. Even Trump's lawyers acknowledge that he could not lawfully do that.

One of the Arabs knifed one of the men, Adam Armoush, with his belt. The attack was recorded, and the video widely seen. Ironically, Adam is not a Jew. He is an Israeli Arab, who was wearing the skull cap to test whether it was unsafe to show oneself as a Jew in Berlin. He was skeptical; he has now reconsidered. One of the assailants, a 19 year old refugee, claiming he was from Syria, later turned himself into the police. In response to the attack, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that she was saddened, and that it was depressing that antisemitism had not been destroyed for good in Germany. There were, in fact, more than 1,000 antisemitic incidents in Berlin last year alone. Merkel pointed out that, in addition to some traditional German antisemitism remaining, "We have a new phenomenon of refugees or people of Arab origin who bring another form of anti-Semitism into the country."...

These complaints have largely been prompted by the 2000 and 2016 presidential elections; in both, the victor won by garnering the requisite number of electoral votes, despite losing the national "popular vote." That has happened only five times in the nation's history: 1824, 1876, 1888, 2000 and 2016.

The race between George W. Bush and Al Gore in 2000 produced painstaking recounts in the state of Florida, a Supreme Court opinion and entry of the term "hanging chad" into the national lexicon. But when all was said and done, George W. Bush had won the state of Florida — albeit by only 537 votes — taking Florida's 25 electoral votes and winning the presidency. Only five electoral votes separated Bush's 271 from scum-Gore's 266.

If Democrats and other left-leaning voters were angry about the 2000 election, they were apoplectic when Donald Trump beat liar-Hillary Clinton in 2016. Trump won the Electoral College handily, receiving 306 electoral votes to Clinton's 232, despite Clinton receiving a larger portion of the popular vote: 65.8 million votes to Trump's 62.9 million.

The ire is grounded in a fundamental misunderstanding of the Constitution, and the role of Electoral College in electing the president. The Constitution is structured to mitigate the effects of pure democracy — which always favors the majority — with procedures that protect minority or underrepresented voices.

Take Congress, for example. The House of Representatives and the Senate are structured differently. The number of representatives each state has is a function of the state's population; the larger the population, the greater the number of representatives. California, our most populous state, sends 53 representatives to the House. Wyoming, our least populous state, has only one. The Senate, on the other hand, consists of 100 elected senators — two from each state, regardless of its population.

And why is this?

The answer is balance. The structure of the Senate is intended to offset the majoritarian effect of the House of Representatives, and to ensure that states with smaller populations get an equal voice in the federal legislative process.

So it is with the Electoral College. By assigning electors and their votes to the candidate who wins the most votes in any given state, the Constitution establishes a system that elevates the impact of smaller, less populous states, and creates an incentive for presidential candidates to cultivate the support of the residents of those states.

As the Electoral College is in the U.S. Constitution, eliminating it outright would require amending the Constitution. An amendment to the Constitution requires the support of two-thirds of both the House and Senate or a Convention of States, followed by ratification of any such amendment by three-quarters of the states' legislatures (38 states). This is no mean feat; the Constitution has only been amended 27 times in 229 years.

However, efforts are afoot to eviscerate the Electoral College without amending the Constitution.

Specifically, the National Popular Vote initiative seeks to get enough state legislatures to pass a law whereby the state's electoral votes will go to the winner of the popular vote nationally, regardless of the results in that particular state. Connecticut is the latest state to have joined the compact, passing such a law this month.

Here's how this works: Let's say that Smith and Jones are running for president in 2020. Smith wins in Connecticut. But Jones gets more actual votes across the country. Connecticut's 7 electoral votes would go, therefore, not to Smith - for whom a majority of Connecticut voters voted - but to Jones.

Unlike the process of amending the Constitution, the National Popular Vote compact only requires enough states to hit the magic number of 270 electoral votes. At present, the compact has 172 dedicated electoral votes from the 11 states which have enacted the law: California (55), New York (29), Illinois (20), New Jersey (14), Washington (12), Massachusetts (11), Maryland (10), Connecticut (7), Rhode Island (4), Hawaii (4), Vermont (3) and the District of Columbia (3).

This compact is being touted by its supporters as being more "fair" than the current system. It is no such thing. Such a law effectively disenfranchises the voters of the states that pass it, in favor of large, highly populated states like California, New York and Illinois. In both the 2000 and 2016 elections, the popular vote majorities were established by virtue of voters in California alone. One state, therefore, out of 50, would have effectively determined the outcome of the presidential election under the National Popular Vote compact. A presidential candidate can safely ignore less populous states which have passed such a law, knowing that their electoral votes will go to the winner of California, New York and Illinois.

It is no coincidence that the 11 states where the compact has passed are Democratic strongholds where liar-Hillary Clinton won in 2016; they are still bruised and seething from her loss to Trump.

But it is no more "fair" to hand over your state's electoral votes to the winners of states like California or Illinois, than it would be to demand that the structure of the U.S. Senate be changed so that more populous states have more senators than less populated ones. Both tactics would undermine the balance of power that is the cornerstone of the Constitution, and render smaller, more rural states effectively voiceless in national government.

The National Popular Vote compact is an underhanded way to gut the Constitution without amending it, and to disenfranchise large swaths of the American electorate. It should be opposed.

North and South Korean leaders meet for second time in a month

Moon’s office, who released photos of the meeting, said the leaders met on the North Korean side of the demilitarized zone in the village of Panmunjom between 3 and 5 p.m. local time. Judicial Watch Battles FBI for Anti-Trumper Text Messages

Our legal team was just informed by the Justice Department that, “the FBI plans to send letters to Peter Strzok and Lisa Page asking them to preserve agency records on their personal accounts and personal devices and requesting confirmation that they are doing so.” We made the preservation request to the FBI as part of our Freedom of Information (FOIA) lawsuit for records of the two current and former FBI officials. Page recently retired, but Mr. Strzok is still at the FBI. We’re glad the FBI reversed course. On May 2, the FBI wrote a letter to Senator Grassley saying it had not requested information from the personal email accounts of Strzok and Page.

Why China's Belt and Road Initiative Matters 

by Todd Johnson:  Today, most U.S. print and television media outlets are focusing their attention on President Donald Trump’s decision to cancel the summit with North Korean leader Kim Jung-un. While the story definitely merits significant attention, there is another important development in the region that seems to be capturing more and more coverage and has the potential of not only affecting the political and economic stability of the Far East but the whole world.

             Ever since it was announced over five years ago, the Belt and Road Initiative (B&R) has turned into a multi-trillion-dollar bet by Xi Jinping’s regime that it can shake up the world economic order while simultaneously gaining influence in East Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa. Recently heralded by a Chinese government official as a program that, “promote(s) a balanced and sustainable global growth” the B&R continues to gain momentum as the 21st century Silk Road.
               While some advocates of the program, especially key United Nations leaders, have been vocal in their support of the Chinese plan, the facts are starting to show that the B&R is having major problems and Western democracies, primarily the United States, are missing the opportunity to capitalize on the Chinese government’s poor decision-making, both economically and diplomatically.
               In the latest issue of Foreign Affairs magazine, a trio of writers argue that Western banking institutions need to seize the opportunity to work with countries that want to develop internal infrastructure instead of ceding the business to the Chinese government. The current “hands off” approach being implemented by Western lending institutions has enabled Chinese banks to fill the gap and, in the process, laid the groundwork for predatory lending practices being implemented by Beijing.
               It’s no secret that China is hungry to play an expanding role on the world stage and is willing to spend massive amounts of capital in the process. Jinping’s government is an aggressive adversary of the United States when it comes to implementing economic policy and the B&R campaign is a well-laid plan to exert dominance in that realm. Examples abound of China’s desire to unseat the United States economically, whether it be vaulting to number one as the world’s largest exporter of oil or the city of Shenzhen rapidly becoming a near peer to Silicon Valley in the tech sector.
               Understanding this dynamic is critical if the United States wants to maintain its role as the dominate global hegemon. Rather than focus on short-term solutions against China, like tariffs, the current administration needs to focus on developing and implementing long-term economic and diplomatic policies that will not only benefit the United States but also the country where the project is located. President Trump knows better than anyone in the federal government the importance of developing infrastructure, both domestically and internationally. His administration, in concert with our allies, must work with developing nations wanting to create new projects or run the risk of seeing them partner with China. A failure to do this not only puts the United States at risk but the rest of the world as well.   ~The Patriot Post

Kim Really Does Want to Meet with Trump - Asks for a Mulligan

Trump welcomes 'productive' statement from North Korea, 

says Dems 'rooting against' talks

When The liar-nObama Administration Became The Deep State

Not Eyeless in Gaza

This time the fight is to define "proportionate."... More familiar is the buzzword "disproportionate," frequently and automatically uttered in meetings of United Nations bodies and by the majority of the "international community" when referring to the actions of the State of Israel and its citizens. Once again in recent weeks the UN Security Council in this fashion condemned the killing by Israeli forces of civilians during protests at the border fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip on March 30, 2018  and April 6-20 , 2018, that had erupted in violence. On May 15, 2018 the proposal in the UNSC condemned the "excessive use of force against unarmed civilians" after Israeli forces had clashed with Palestinian protestors in the Gaza Strip. The protestors,  trying to breach the Israeli fence on the dividing line betweeen the Gaza Strip and Israel, burned tires , used fire bombs and stones. Israeli forces responding to the provocation killed 62 and injured more than a thousand. No Israelis were killed.  International criticism focused on Israel's "disproportionate use of military force." All democratic nations and some of the moderate Arab nations accept the reality that Israel, like every other state, has a right to defend its borders...

Op 'Crossfire Hurricane' Is Now Op 'Backfire Tornado' 

by Mark Alexander:  In the Rolling Stones’ hit song “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” Mick Jagger wails, “I was born in a crossfire hurricane. And I howled at the morning driving rain.” I have no idea what that means, but a counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign under the codename “Crossfire Hurricane” certainly justifies a lot of howling.

             Let’s review. Last week marked the one-year anniversary of “independent” counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into the fake Trump/Putin collusion delusion, sponsored by ludicrous and unverified opposition research provided to the CIA and FBI by operatives of the liar-Clinton /Putin/Fusion farce.
               liar-Clinton’s charade prompted months of FBI and CIA investigations into the Trump campaign, followed by the appointment of Mueller to widen the investigation.
               Despite having stacked his investigative team with 13 hard-core Democrats (some overt donors to liar-Hillary Clinton’s campaign) and zero Republicans, and having burned through 10 million taxpayer dollars (and as much in legal defense fees from those they’ve targeted), what Trump/Putin collusion has Mueller uncovered?
               According to The New York Times — yes, The New York Times — “A year and a half later, no public evidence has surfaced connecting Mr. Trump’s advisers … or linking Mr. Trump himself, to the Russian government’s disruptive efforts.” Let that sink in.
               Instead, Mueller’s “big fish” indictment was Trump’s former campaign chief, Paul Manafort — with unrelated business practice violations that occurred years before Trump was even a candidate. He also obtained a couple of guilty pleas from others who were only remotely connected to the Trump campaign and a bogus perjury plea from former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn (even former FBI Director James Comey told Congress he didn’t think Flynn had lied). But none of the indictments are even remotely connected to “collusion.”
               Mueller has issued indictments for 13 Russians who plotted to disrupt the U.S. election in 2016 — not by swinging votes to one candidate or the other but by undermining confidence in the American electoral system.
               For the record, the Russians have been trying to disrupt U.S. political stability since 1917, because that’s what socialists do.
               Putin’s plotters have succeeded in their disruption goal beyond their wildest ambitions, thanks to a few rotten apples — most notably liar-nObama’s CIA Director John Brennan, the Deep State boss who’s at the root of the Trump collusion setup, the aforementioned James Comey, their enablers within the liar- Clinton campaign, and of course Mueller himself.
               Currently, according to Mueller, Trump is not a target of his investigation, but he most certainly has been the target of Brennan and Comey. So when Mueller wants a conversation with Trump about something that didn’t happen, he should decline.
               Despite the fact that the collusion narrative has collapsed, there will likely come other charges and indictments for infractions unrelated to Mueller’s investigative mandate in the months and potentially years ahead, as Mueller can keep his investigation open until he decides to close it — or is fired.

               But according to former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper (who lied to Congress in 2013 about the liar-nObama administration’s collection of data on all Americans), Trump’s concern about the counterintelligence campaign targeting his campaign “is hyperbole.”
               Clapper claims: “They may have had someone who was talking to them in the campaign, but, you know, the focus here, and as it was with the intelligence community, is not on the campaign, per se, but what the Russians were doing to try to instantiate themselves in the campaign or influence or leverage it. So if there was someone that was observing that sort of thing, that’s a good thing.”
               Ask directly if government operatives were spying on the Trump campaign, Clapper said, “They were spying on, a term I don’t particularly like, but on what the Russians were doing. Trying to understand were the Russians infiltrating, trying to gain access, trying to gain leverage or influence, which is what they do.”
               Again, the CIA and FBI should have contacted the Trump campaign directly to help determine if the Russians were seeking to influence Trump, but there was already a presumption of colluding guilt.
               Now, for certain, Russian efforts to undermine the integrity of U.S. elections should be thoroughly investigated — as has always been the case.
               And objectively, there’s a very thin argument in favor of Clapper’s assertion that the investigation was justified, though highly irregular. However, with Brennan, Comey and some of their key investigative gatekeepers, “objectivity” was AWOL. They were heavily biased for a liar-Hillary Clinton victory over Trump and were colluding to use the power of their agencies to ensure she would defeat Trump, and in the unlikely event he was elected, ensure to ensnare him in the collusion trap they set.
               Thus, President Trump’s concerns are fully justified, as was his call for a full investigation into the campaign probes.
               Regarding Brennan’s politicization of the CIA, Trump’s social media staff summed it up: “John Brennan … has disgraced himself, he has disgraced the Country, he has disgraced the entire Intelligence Community. He is the one man who is largely responsible for the destruction of American’s faith in the Intelligence Community and with some people at the top of the FBI, Brennan started this entire debacle about President Trump. We now know that Brennan had detailed knowledge of the (phony) dossier. … He briefs the Gang of 8 on the Hill about the dossier, which they then used to start an investigation about Trump. It is that simple. This guy is the genesis of this whole Debacle. This was a Political hit job…”
               Georgetown law professor Jonathan Turley (a Democrat) observed that, no matter how the Left and Leftmedia try to spin this operation, “You can tell a victim that this isn’t a mugging, it’s a forced divestiture, but this is a mugging. … I know of no precedent to support this.”
               Not about to be content with this mugging, President Trump called Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats and FBI Director Christopher Wray and ordered an investigation into the campaign probes with a full report due to congressional investigators. White House Chief of Staff John Kelly was assigned to ensure that Congress receives the information it needs to fully investigate the probe.
               According to Trump Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, the administration believes the DoJ’s inspector general should “expand its current investigation to include any irregularities with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s or the Department of Justice’s tactics concerning the Trump Campaign.”
               Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has referred the case to IG Horowitz, and Attorney General Jeff Sessions has appointed a federal prosecutor, John Huber, to work with Horowitz to review the case.
               And House Republicans have introduced a resolution calling for a special counsel to investigate the FBI/DOJ investigators involved in the Trump/Russia probe. Game on.
               Moving forward, I would caution Republicans to choose their words carefully when broadcasting condemnations.
               As I have previously noted, the corruption of FBI leadership and some high-level bureaucrats has cast a long shadow on all of the 12,484 special agents and 2,950 intelligence analysts in the FBI. But most men and women in the FBI, much as in the CIA, steadfastly abide by their oaths “to support and defend” our Constitution, not their preferential candidate, and they serve our nation likewise. They live up to the FBI motto: Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity.
               Indeed, most FBI agents, whose reputations and careers are being sullied, are deeply offended both personally and professionally by that corruption. According to confidential sources within the FBI, there are special agents who are appealing for subpoenas to testify about the extent of the Deep State corruption in the agency in order to clean it up.
               Former District of Columbia U.S. Attorney Joe DiGenova, who is well connected with rank-and-file FBI agents in Washington, says, “There are agents all over this country who love the Bureau and are sickened by Comey’s behavior and McCabe and Holder and Lynch, and the thugs like [John] Brennan. They despise the fact that the Bureau was used as a tool of political intelligence by theliar-nObama administration thugs.”
               DiGenova places the FBI politicization plot squarely at the feet of Comey and McCabe on the inside, and Holder and Lynch over at the DoJ.
               One well-placed FBI agent declared: “Every special agent I have spoken to in the Washington Field Office wants to see McCabe prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. They feel the same way about Comey. They know that it wasn’t just Comey and McCabe in this case. That’s too narrow a net to cast over these guys. There’s a much broader corruption that seeped into the seventh floor at the Bureau. They ruined the credibility of the Bureau…”
               Indeed, there are critical questions yet to be answered about the politicization of the FBI under liar-nObama.
               But thus far, as was the case when liar-nObama politicized the IRS, having key high-level bureaucrats target conservative groups, nobody has gone to jail. The prospects of indictments for liar-nObama/ liar-Clinton political hacks in the CIA and FBI may be even more elusive.
                Finally, allow me to share an award-winning example of Democrat obfuscation in rebuttal to Trump’s demand for an additional investigation.
               Senate Minority schmoozer Chuck Schumer (D-NY) did a masterful job of turning this situation inside out: “That he would issue such an absurd and abusive demand based on no evidence shows just how little regard the president has for the rule of law.”
               Seriously, he referenced “Rule of Law,” claiming there was “no evidence,” which is precisely the amount of evidence that led to the Mueller investigation.
               clown-Schumer then added, “President Trump seems to have the terribly misguided view that the Department of Justice is there to protect his political interests and prosecute his enemies.” Ironically, it was Democrat Party leaders who weaponized the Department of Justice to take down Trump.
               clown-Schumer finally ran out of hot air with this summary: “The president’s behavior is the kind of grossly autocratic behavior we’d expect in a banana republic, not a mature democracy.”
               Actually, the FBI/CIA probe is what one would expect when banana republic autocrats are attempting to take down their opposition.
               Mick Jagger’s song ends, “It’s a gas, gas, gas,” and more liar-nObama/ liar-Clinton FBI/CIA Crossfire Hurricane operatives just got doused.   ~The Patriot Post
