With a deepening economic depression, many unemployed veterans of WWI demanded that Congress pay out a $1,000 bonus 13 years early. Led by former National Guardsman Walter Waters, the nearly 20,000-member “Bonus Army” began to converge on Washington, DC. They were initially encouraged when the House of Representatives passed the Patman Bill, which satisfied their requests. However, the measure later failed by a wide margin in the Senate. As tempers flared, several thousand veterans that had been camping in vacant federal buildings along the Anacostia River flats, refused to vacate the capital.  WEEKEND RUMBLE OVER NSA PITS PAUL AGAINST BOTH    PARTIES 
With the NSA’s bulk telephone data collection program set to shutdown at midnight Sunday, the Senate will meet to take a second run at the House-passed Freedom Act, which allows the collection to continue but storing the data with private companies. Majority Leader Mitch McCon-nell and senate security hawks, who want a clean extension of the NSA program, blocked the measure last week and negotiators have been trying to hammer out a face-saving deal during the Senate recess.

When it comes to breakfast, you just don’t stand between vacationers in Western Michigan and their waffles. Travelers at America’s Best Value Inn in Pere Marquette Township learned just how seriously some take their first meal of the day when a woman cut the line to the waffle maker. “One lady walked up to another lady and asked if she was in line for the waffle maker thing and the lady never answered her,” Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole told WWJ. “So the first lady went and made a waffle, and when she went to go and take it this other gal tried to take it from her and that started the fight over the waffle.” What then ensued was a breakfast battle royale that resulted in nearly 30 people being ejected from the hotel. “We had two-thirds of our road patrol tied up on this fiasco,” Cole said.

Atheists who see it may think me an intellectual lightweight who could just as easily believe in the Tooth Fairy, or that the earth was created six thousand years ago.

     Back in 2002 when the homosexual priest scandal broke, I almost left the Catholic church. There are still issues the American Conference of Catholic Bishops champion that make me cringe. Some things Pope Francis says make me uncomfortable too. Nonetheless, to follow the Magisterium (official teachings of the Catholic Church) is to believe abortion kills a human being and homosexuality is “intrinsically disordered.” That puts me on a collision course with the progressive Thought Police who would force me to shut up about what I believe.

     Chicago’s Cardinal Francis George, who I’ve quoted in this space before, died a few weeks ago. Five years ago, he said something prophetic: “I’ll die in my bed. My successor will die in prison. His successor will die a martyr. His successor will pick up the shards of a ruined society and slowly help rebuild civilization, as the church has done so often in human history.” Two years later in 2012, he said he was being “overly dramatic.” Here in 2015, however, rhetoric coming from Democrat and Republican candidates for president in 2016 indicate he was more right than he knew.

    He did die in his bed. Will his successor die in prison? That might have been plausible if Pope Francis appointed conservative Cardinal Raymond Burke to take his place after removing him from a key Vatican post. Burke stands his ground, and that’s probably why he didn’t fit in at the Vatican. Instead Pope Francis banished the conservative Burke to Malta and appointed someone more likely to go with the “progressive” flow in Chicago.

     Last month, the leading Democrat presidential candidate for 2016 said: “Laws have be backed up with… political will… and deep-seated cultural codes, religious beliefs and structural biases have to be changed.” Hilly Clinton was speaking about “reproductive health care,” her favorite euphemism for abortion, but her remarks indicate how far the left may go pushing their social/political agenda. They’re throwing down the gauntlet for conservative Christians — ready to use the power of government to make us change what we believe about the very nature of God and human life. nObamacare mandates to pay for abortion-inducing drugs were only the beginning.

     Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio seemed to pick up Hilly’s gauntlet when he said last week that anyone who believes marriage is between one man and one woman is labeled: “a homophobe and a hater. The next step is to argue that the teachings of mainstream Christianity, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, is hate speech…”

     Canada’s Supreme Court ruled two years ago that biblical speech opposing homosexual behavior is a “hate crime.” The Province of Alberta passed its Education Act three years ago under which “homeschoolers and faith-based schools will not be permitted to teach that homosexual acts are sinful as part of their academic program.” How long until such rulings are passed down in the USA?

     It’s not as if the Catholic Church in America is conservative. With the exception of Cardinal Burke and a few others, it’s not. I attend mass every Sunday in Maine or New Hampshire, and never in the last ten years have I heard a sermon about abortion. Only once was homosexual “marriage” discussed when Maine’s Bishop Malone urged parishioners to vote against a homosexual “marriage” referendum in 2009. Rather, parish priests seem to go out of their way to avoid those subjects. That’s why I was surprised to hear Pope Francis say: “We cannot insist only on issues related to abortion, gay marriage and the use of contraceptive methods… it is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time.”

     Perhaps it’s different in Rome or in Argentina where Pope Francis comes from, but up here in Maine and New Hampshire, they’re not talked about “all the time.” They’re not discussed at all, and silence implies assent. Prior to Francis, we had two conservative popes in Benedict and John Paul II. Although Francis hasn’t tried to modify the Magisterium, he’s signaling a willingness to bend, even cozying up with President nObama on several issues. Leftists who dominate in our mainstream media are predictably thrilled. Out here in the trenches, however, conservative Catholics are dismayed.

Actor Supports Guns in Schools, Hollywood Goes Hysterical

It takes courage to come out conservative in Hollywood. And actor Vince Vaughn, known for his roles in “assembly-line comedies,” has stepped into the political crosshairs. “You think the politicians that run my country and your country don’t have guns in the schools their kids go to? They do,” Vaughn told UK-based Sky News. “And we should be allowed the same rights. Banning guns is like banning forks in an attempt to stop making people fat. Taking away guns, taking away drugs, the booze, it won’t rid the world of criminality. … In all of our schools it is illegal to have guns on campus, so again and again these guys go and shoot up these … schools because they know there are no guns there. They are monsters killing six-year-olds.” Hollywood and UK media quickly labeled Vaughn an idiot. But Charles C. W. Cooke notes that Vaughn’s thinking is correct, if a bit underdeveloped, as Vaughn never specifies how he envisions guns in schools. But Vaughn gets the concept of self-defense: “It’s well known that the greatest defense against an intruder is the sound of a gun hammer being pulled back.” Given that Hollywood hypocrites make so much money from gratuitous violence, it’s refreshing to hear an actor support the Second Amendment.

May Concludes With 43 Homicides in Baltimore

In recent years, Chicago has been the focal point of attention regarding violence among minorities in large cities, but Baltimore has rocketed up the chain after a record-setting number of homicides in May. Criminal activity jumped following the death of Freddie Gray, and the spree continued on Sunday with three additional felonious deaths. The month ended with a staggering 43 murders, the most of any May and “the deadliest month since the early 1970s, when 44 people were killed in December 1971 and 45 people in August 1972,” USA Today reported. Unsurprisingly, the upward swing in homicides is commensurate with a precipitous drop in the number of suspects being apprehended (32% by one estimate). The city has registered 116 homicides year-to-date. And while that may not sound impressive compared to areas like Chicago, on a per-capita-basis Baltimore in its current climate is actually far more dangerous. As Daily Caller contributor Derek Hunter writes, “The 48 murders in Chicago [in May] are disturbing, but the city has a population of 2.7 million people. In the month of May, there was one murder for every 56,250 Chicagoans. About MSU’s Study on ‘Far Right’ Groups

This is the key question: How do the National Institute of Justice and Michigan State University define “far right” groups? Through the NIJ, the Department of Justice awarded a $585,719 grantto MSU to study how “extremist groups use web forums, social media, and technology to enculturate and radicalize individuals to violence.” It’s a question worth studying, as the U.S. government currently worries about supposed “lone-wolf” terrorism. While the study aims to analyze extremists' social networks to “identify the hidden networks of individuals who engage in extremist movements based on geographic location and ideological similarities” (which is a good descriptor of Jihadistan), the study will look at three jihadist forums — but four from the “far Right.” There are questions about what the Obama administration considers to be dangerous right-wing groups. MSU could be studying the sovereign citizen movement. But in 2009, Mark Alexander warned that Obama’s government was warily eyeing the Tea Party movement. In that same year, the Department of Homeland Security thought veterans returning from combat could be dangerous. If MSU wants to remain objective, it should also study the communications of far-Left groups. But then again is objectivity the point? More…

EPA Proposes More Corn for Fuel, Not Food

Compared to this time last year, Americans are paying much less at the gas pump. Enjoy it while you can, though, because gas prices are about to rise. The expected price increase isn’t due to chaos in the Middle East or a shortage of fossil fuels. No, it’s due to the Environmental Protection Agency and its newly released proposal to increase ethanol production. By the way, do you like your food bill? Get ready, because that’s about to increase too.

The EPA’s proposed three-year ethanol mandate will increase the amount of biofuel mixed into the gasoline supply. This may sound great to supporters of so-called renewable energy, but it’s actually doubling down on a terrible idea.

Why? Well, there are several problems with requiring more ethanol in America’s fuel.

First, several gasoline refiners have warned that the proposal “moves more quickly than the market can support.” In 2007, when Congress expanded the Renewable Fuel Standard, only half of all gasoline contained 10% ethanol. Right now, nearly all of the gasoline produced and used in the U.S. contains 10% ethanol. However, the decrease in demand for gasoline due to more fuel-efficient vehicles means a corresponding decrease in demand for ethanol. The EPA would rather ignore reality and aims to increase ethanol production anyway.

According to The Hill, the EPA “set its overdue 2014 requirements at the actual level of production — 15.93 billion gallons of biofuel — increasing the total to 16.3 billion gallons this year and 17.4 billion gallons in 2016. The statutory requirement for 2016 is 22.25 billion gallons.” Under the EPA’s new proposal, about 4.7 billion gallons of renewable fuel are expected to come from advanced forms of biofuel such as cellulosic ethanol derived from plant mass material, despite its slower-than-expected development. The remainder will be corn-based ethanol, which brings us to problem number two: increased food costs.

The mandate drives up food prices because corn is a staple food and is also used by livestock for feed. Has anyone noticed the skyrocketing price of beef over the last several years? Furthermore, if more corn is used for ethanol, then there is less food for people in the world who are starving. Quite the double standard for progressives and environmentalists who rage about the human population dying from climate change. No doubt hungry people would love to have some corn to eat, but, nah, let’s burn it for fuel so we can save mankind in the future.

Last year, Mark Alexander noted some staggering statistics that are worth repeating: More than 90% of our nation’s corn crop went toward feeding people and livestock in the year 2000, with less than 5% of the crop going toward ethanol. In 2013, however, a whopping 40% went toward ethanol. To illustrate this grossly inefficient use of our natural resources, the amount of grain required to fill a 25-gallon automotive fuel tank with ethanol is enough grain to feed one person for an entire year.

The third problem with the EPA proposal is that ethanol itself is more costly for drivers and consumers. Despite auto engines being built to better handle ethanol’s corrosive effects, ethanol gasoline causes significant and costly mechanical problems for small boat engines and yard equipment. But auto engines are about to be impacted in the near future, too. How so? It turns out that Barack Obama is set to pledge $100 million to expand the use of ethanol blender pumps to allow drivers to mix more ethanol into their gasoline. Sure, it may work for new flex fuel vehicles, but not so well for older cars. Some people won’t discover that until it’s too late.

This is a pathetic pledge and ultimately pathetic policy, funded by the American taxpayer. People will have to pay a little more in taxes to pay for these pumps, pay a little more for the ethanol that comes out of the pumps and then pay more to fix what the ethanol destroys.

The final problem with the EPA’s proposal — and perhaps one of the primary reasons for it — is that there are subsidy recipients who stand to profit handsomely. In other words, the government is picking winners. While we’re not opposed to people and businesses making profits, we are adamantly opposed to the central planners who by regulations and fiats force products into the market. Some farmers and ecofascists stand to benefit, but when free market principles are cast aside America loses.

In the coming months, we’ll be watching to see where the Republican presidential candidates stand on this issue. So far, most of them are singing praises of the ethanol mandate. It seems they’re more concerned about getting votes in Iowa and bowing to King Corn than they are for standing for free market principles. Note to Republican presidential candidates: Try not to get on board with the ethanol mandate, because it’s ultimately part of Obama’s climate change agenda.

 HILLY’S HAWKS DUMP ON nOBAMA’S ISIS FIGHT 
We have been reading a lot lately about the biggest blemish on Hilly Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state: the woebegone Libyan rebellion. Clinton was the principle advocate for U.S. military intervention to help Islamist rebels depose strongman Muammar Qaddafi. The results have been dire, but President nObama made clear from the beginning that he was an unwilling combatant – hence “leading from behind” – and has probably been relieved to see so much of the blame circle back to the hawkish Clinton and her coterie. But now it is Team Clinton’s turn.
          The Center for a New American Security looks like the foreign policy shop for Clinton’s potential return to the White House. Clinton helped launch it in 2007 and its leadership includes the woman widely expected to be secretary of defense in a Clinton restoration, Michele Flournoy. So it’s not just the ordinary wonk talk when the Clintonite group puts out a damning indictment of nObama’s policy in Iraq and Syria. Clinton herself previously blamed nObama’s inaction in Syria for worsening the crisis, but did so in an oblique way. Now, her foreign policy familiars are making things more explicit saying that the plan is “failing” and “misguided” but potentially “counterproductive.”
          While the White House is pushing hard to emphasize the Iraqification of the war effort against ISIS and trying to prop up the Baghdad government and strengthen its military forces, the Clinton-affiliated group is calling for more U.S. boots on the ground and bypassing Baghdad with aid to directly help Sunni provincial groups. In a CNN interview this week, Flournoy, who withdrew from consideration as nObama’s Pentagon boss, said the U.S. has “under-resourced this strategy”
          The administration is obliged to respond to such sharp criticism from former officials, and we see here the beginning of the next round in the Clinton v. nObama foreign policy feud. This will complicate nObama’s effort to stay the course on his ISIS containment strategy but also may expose Clinton to liberal anxieties about her more hawkish nature.

 WHAT KIND OF COVERAGE DOES HILLY MERIT? 
Is it appropriate to give Hilly Clinton’s campaign the same coverage as a normal presidential run? Despite her refusal to abide by the norms of access and accountability amid ongoing revelations from the scandals that dog her run, reporters are still providing Clinton a platform from which to make her case.
          There is an argument to be made for a prismatic approach in which coverage of the campaign is seen through the controversies themselves. But what about regular horse-race coverage, especially in a one-horse race?
          Reporters on Thursday granted Clinton campaign flacks the privilege of extolling their wonderfulness in the form of an anonymous background briefing. Reporters would be allowed to say that Clinton officials said their campaign was going just dandy and that the drumbeat of ethical concerns was pure piffle, but not report the names of the individuals who were doing the piffle touting. Why? We’re not talking about edifying reporters on a foreign policy controversy that might embarrass an ally. We’re talking about the spin and logistics of a presidential campaign.
          While attending, hearing out campaign officials and pressing for real information would be one thing, some reporters went right to the kind of gushy account that the campaign was surely hoping for. Does a detail like “Clinton’s staffers described her as happy and glad to be leading her campaign rather than letting her campaign lead her, as was often the case in 2007 and 2008” really require the veil of secrecy? Is that an appropriate privilege for a campaign that is kneecapping the press?

     (factsnotfantasy.blogspot.com) - Does it strike anyone as strange that the only candidate for the Democratic Party’s nomination to be the next President of the United States is the wife of a former President? There is no historic precedent for this, no way to measure this against how Americans have selected Presidents in the past.

     Like most Americans, I first took notice of her when Bill began his campaign to become President. I recall being struck by the fact that in 1969 as a student at Wellesley College, her 92-page senior thesis was devoted to the community organizer, Saul Alinsky’s book. The title of the thesis was “There is Only the Fight…”: An Analysis of the Alinski Model.” She would request Wellesley to deny access to it.

     Alinksy was a Communist. His twelve rules for radicals, unlike the Ten Commandments, are devoid of a moral message. Instead, the message is “this is how you can win.” Hilly would do well to review Rule 7, “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” She was already old news when she announced her candidacy and it is becoming older with every passing day as she fails to take questions from the media, participating in totally staged events to look like “one of the people.”

     She and Bill are not one of the people. They, like the Bushes, are political royalty. They have both been around a very long time.
.
     Hilly, however, despite the millions of words that have been written about and by her remains an enigma. Other than being farther to the Left than Bill, she is a woman whose “achievements” in life have largely been the result of having married Bill. She would spend eight years in the White House as the First Lady and, pursuing her college dreams of political power, they would move to New York State where she ran and won a Senatorial election.

     There isn’t a single Senate bill that she introduced or that is credited to her. She is said to have worked hard and gotten along well with her colleagues, but her Senate years are a blur in her public life. Then she made a bid to be the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in 2008 and along came Barack Hussein nObama with whom the voters fell in love. When he was elected, he asked her to become his Secretary of State.

     With the exception of the Benghazi tragedy on September 11, 2012, a clear failure of judgment and duty, and about which she lied, her years as Secretary of State reflect her years in the Senate; nothing of any significance resulted, no major treaties, no major anything, except for one more scandal.
.
     So the question remains; who is Hilly Rodham Clinton? What are her fundamental principles beyond the acquisition of political power? And money. Lots of it while uttering nonsense such as she and Bill being “dead broke” when they left office?
.
     What are we to make of her deletions of thousands of emails on her private server—something she was not supposed to use as Secretary of State—and her assertion that those we may never see were of no importance? They’re important if, as is widely believed, foreign governments hacked her private email server and thus had access to information about policies affecting themselves and others. She may not have broken a law, but she surely did not obey nObama White House policy regarding the emails.

     Alinski’s Rule 1 is “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have. Power is derived from two main sources—money and people.”
.
     We are told that Hilly has a huge amount of money with which to wage a campaign to become the first woman President. In light of the revelations about the Clinton Foundations, virtual slush funds, and the millions earned by her and Bill to give speeches, there is little doubt of that.

You cannot, however, buy trust and the polls indicate that is seeping away.
.
     Her die-hard supporters probably know as little about her as the rest of us, but it is their trust she is depending on right now. Should she actually receive the Democratic Party’s nomination, the distrust of independent voters, disaffected Democrats, and of course Republicans, will play a crucial role in who is elected in 2016. It is not likely to be Hilly Clinton.

     It is not likely because, as we have already seen, she seems to have reached a point where her political abilities have grown tired and out-of-date. These are not the 1990s. A whole generation has been born since Bill was President.

     Like her, the Democratic Party seems tired as well. Can you believe there is not another Democrat, a Governor or Senator who could emerge to represent the Party? How devoid of any real leadership has the Democratic Party become if the only candidate they can offer is a former First Lady? That has been her primary claim to fame despite the two offices she has held since the 1990s.

     I suggest that Hilly ceases to be an enigma if you just think of the Wellesley student who thought the best topic for her senior thesis was the book by a dedicated Communist, Saul Alinsky.

Conservatives Should Embrace Free Trade

The late Milton Friedman wrote that there are “few measures that we could take would do more to promote the cause of freedom at home and abroad than complete free trade.” But with a pro-free trade measure at hand, some on the right are letting their objections for President Obama's lawlessness on immigration and other issues to cloud their conviction in this core principle of conservative belief.

At issue is Trade Promotion Authority, which guarantees that international trade agreements struck by the president will receive an up-or-down vote in the House and Senate. The expedited process would extend from the last months of Obama's second term into the next, hopefully Republican presidency. Since the GOP controls both chambers of Congress until Obama leaves office, putting trade agreements to a vote hardly seems like a serious danger, especially for some of the more outlandish “threats” that critics have raised.

Would House Republicans – any House Republicans – vote to curtail the 2nd Amendment, for instance? The idea is, frankly, laughable. And yet this precise worry has been raised by Gun Owners of America (generally a terrific organization) as something Obama may try to sneak through once he has secured an up-or-down vote in Congress.

Fears of a liberal dream agreement gliding through Congress while Republicans watch helplessly look even more outlandish when one considers the politics of the actual agreement at issue: the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a trade deal that Obama is currently negotiating with Japan and other Asian countries.

They say you can tell who a man is by his friends. For the TPP, it's equally instructive to look at its enemies: an axis-of-liberalism of unions and environmentalists. In Congress, arch-liberal Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), backed by the nakedly partisan former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), have lit up Obama for backing the deal, occassionally descending into bitter recriminations. Given that unions have employed truly slash-and-burn tactics to stop the TPP, including warning a Democratic lawmaker they would drop $2 million in the next Democratic primary to take them out if they disobeyed liberal orthodoxy, it's clear the TPP won't be garnering a huge number of Democratic votes when it comes to the House floor. Given that reality, all of the leverage for agreeing to the ultimate deal lies with the Republicans. And if a President Rubio or Walker is negotiating deals in 2017, trade fast-track will help facilitate their deals. It would also be more difficult to pass through Congress then with Democrats likely to be completely unified against it.

Beyond fears about Obama, a more worrying trend in the rhetoric from some critics like Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), generally speaking a conservative champion, is their criticism of trade deals in principle. Sessions has criticized previous free trade agreements, saying they have led to a trade imbalance. The Alabama Republican cites economist Clyde Prestowitz, a former Reagan administration official who has veered sharply left in recent decades, arguing that an increase in imported goods has led to job losses. Here, Friedman is especially instructive. Rather than causing economic harm, the truth about imports is “very different,” he wrote in the late 1990s. “We cannot eat, wear, or enjoy the goods we send abroad. We eat bananas from Central America, wear Italian shoes, drive German automobiles, and enjoy programs we see on our Japanese TV sets. Our gain from foreign trade is what we import. Exports are the price we pay to get imports.”

Every industry has what Friedman called a “cacophony of the 'interested sophistry of merchants and manufacturers' and their employees” working overtime to “protect” their narrow interests against trade deals that benefit vast millions of people, a little bit each. As a conservative, I'm worried about representing the interest of the many – I know that each industry will ably represent itself. Conservatives looking at guaranteeing merely a vote on a trade agreement loathed by the left ought to consider their interests, too.

A Tax Cut for Air Travelers

Conservatives should praise a new effort in the House of Representatives to reform the whole structure of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and, hopefully, lower some taxes while they are at it. 

A Tax Foundation titled Improving Airport Funding to Meet the Needs of Passengers documents the ways the federal government hammers average Americans with tax after tax after tax.   

First they hit the passenger with a 7.5 percent Domestic Passenger Ticket Tax an then a $4.00 Domestic Flight Segment Tax (for international flights the charge is $17.70 per ticket).  There is an additional jet fuel tax and a September 11th fee that is $5.60 per segment per flight.

If you add up the domestic ticket tax and the flight segment tax, the federal government scooped up almost $9 billion in 2013 revenues with an additional amount of almost $3 billion in international flight tax revenues (this includes flights to Alaska and Hawaii).  The security fees made $2 billion for the feds. This money is supposed to go to the Airport and Airway Trust Fund and for the massive bureaucracy that was created at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

The problem is that the money is not well spent.  The trust fund money is not distributed on the basis of what airports are in dire need of help.  Representatives and Senators who serve on the committees that dole out the airport cash tend to favor home state airports regardless of need. 

The idea behind tax reform is to restructure the tax code so that it makes sense, is fair and results in economic growth.  If the domestic tax on tickets were to be cut, there will be money on the table to invest in refurbishing airports in need of repair.  Part of the federal tax is supposed to be set-aside for this purpose, yet the feds have a hard time distributing money in an effective and fair way.

One conservative idea that has great weight with the Tea Party is the idea of devolving federal programs to the states.  Senator Jim DeMint, now President of the Heritage Foundation, pushed the idea of devolving the federal gas tax to the states to allow the states to collect more money while the federal government eased out of the highway business.  The same idea can work with our local airports.

Cut federal taxes on air travel and allow local airports to collect more money would cut out the middleman – the feds.  This type of solution would save money for travelers and would help increase air travel. 

The Passenger Facility Charge is a local charge that airports use to collect money for the airport where the travel commences.  This local fee is capped at $4.50 per ticket and the local airports should be allowed to raise that fee while the taxes on domestic and international flights are dramatically cut.  This will convert a tax system into a more reasonable local user fee for air travel. 

The Tax Foundation report concludes “the current system of airport funding is not ideal for air travelers. The most important, most popular airports generate plenty of revenue for the government but do not necessarily get that money back to spend on their own capital expenses. Much of the funding granted by the federal government could be better spent by the airports directly.”

Remove the cap on the Passenger Facility Charge, lower federal taxes on travel and let the local airports to spend the money on their own airports.  Comprehensive tax reform should be tried on the whole federal tax code and it makes sense as a way to restore sanity, local control and free-market capitalism to the air travel market.

Sometimes events remind us all that life is more than politics. The death of Beau Biden, son of Joe Biden, is one of those events. Beau had privately battled brain cancer for the last few years, but succumbed on Saturday. Beau, 46, was a major in the Delaware Army National Guard. He served in Iraq and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was also attorney general in Delaware and once considered a potential governor. Beau leaves behind his wife, Hallie, and two children, Natalie and Hunter. Joe Biden is no stranger to tragedy, either. In 1972, he lost his first wife, Nelia, and 13-month-old daughter, Naomi, in a car accident. Biden’s sons, Beau and Hunter, survived. Political differences aside, we in our humble shop offer our sincerest condolences to the Biden family.

DOJ Planning Next Assault on Gun Rights

If Barack Obama can’t push gun control through the nation’s lawmaking body, then he’ll pile on the regulations. By November, the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are expected to finalize regulations that would restrict who is qualified to exercise their Second Amendment rights. “The regulations range from new restrictions on high-powered pistols to gun storage requirements,” The Hill reports. “Chief among them is a renewed effort to keep guns out of the hands of people who are mentally unstable or have been convicted of domestic abuse. … As proposed, the regulation makes it illegal for some who has been convicted of a misdemeanor domestic violence offense to own a gun.” The Left has been test firing these regulations since 1998, but it is revising the proposed regulation binge because of Sandy Hook and “public health.” Furthermore, what constitutes domestic assault and mental illness is subject to social mores, and rights guaranteed by the Constitution are not tied to majority rule.

Patriot Act Expires After Last-Minute Senate Fight

The Senate allowed the Patriot Act to expire Sunday after opposition, led by Rand Paul, derailed the efforts of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to renew the act and endorse the NSA’s mass metadata collection efforts. The chamber did, however, vote 77-17 to take up the House-passed USA Freedom Act, which would revise the Patriot Act to specifically prohibit the NSA’s domestic spying program — a program ruled illegal by a federal court. Unfortunately, congressional efficiency being what it is, leadership waited too late to bring either bill up for debate, almost ensuring unnecessary drama. That means the good of the Patriot Act was thrown out with the bad. Yet as Reuters reports, “Intelligence experts say a lapse of only a few days would have little immediate effect. The government is allowed to continue collecting information related to any foreign intelligence investigation that began before the deadline.” Fighting terrorists is critical, but collecting data from every American to create the proverbial haystack doesn’t strike us as an efficient or trustworthy way to go about doing that. And it’s time Congress took its national security responsibly more seriously than leaving important work to the last minute.

O'Malley Officially Challenges Hillary

The symbolism was a bit off, or a telling example of what the future may hold if Martin O'Malley wins the White House. With the Baltimore skyline in the background, the former mayor of the city announced Saturday that he would seek the Democrat nomination for president. Between the idealistic socialist Bernie Sanders and the conniving politician Hillary Clinton, O'Malley doesn’t seem to have much of a chance winning the Democrat Party’s horse race. Publisher of the Rothenberg and Gonzales Political Report, Stuart Rothenberg, told the Baltimore Sun, “The only way he’s going to have a path, is if [Clinton] stumbles. Right now, it’s not about O'Malley and I don’t believe it ever will be about O'Malley.” While we know Clinton’s track record on foreign policy, we know O'Malley’s track record on domestic issues through his leadership in Maryland. It was he that brought tough, zero-tolerance policing to Baltimore — the policing strategy that contributed to the riots that recently rocked the city. Furthermore, it was the guitar-playingpolitician’s progressive economic strategies as governor that drowned Maryland in taxes and waterlogged the state’s economic engine. That economic policy caused Maryland to have the third slowest economic growth of all the states from 2011 to 2013, The Wall Street Journalreports — something the nation’s economy cannot bear after years of implementing Obama’s economic ideas.

Breaking the Tyranny of DC Gun Laws

The left-wing ruling class in the District of Columbia continues its relentless fight against the God-given freedom recognized by the Second Amendment — the right to bear arms, the palladium of liberties. Of course, to the Left, the thought of a constitutional right that doesn’t involve the redefinition of marriage or legalizing the dismemberment of a baby in the womb seems ludicrous.

This chapter in the ongoing saga revolves around a federal judge’s ruling last July that overturned the city’s 40-year ban on carrying firearms for self-defense. In response to the ruling, the leftist DC government designed a very restrictive right-to-carry permit process — one that approved as few applications as possible.

That, too, has been struck down in a federal decision joining the Supreme Court’s 2008 Heller ruling that overturned the District of Columbia’s complete ban on handgun ownership. Since that restoration of rights, over 3,000 handguns have been registered in DC, but only for use in protecting one’s home.

The impact of crime upon citizens has made clear that law enforcement is only minutes away when seconds count. The necessity of armed self-defense is becoming more and more a reality in a world where abled-bodied thieves, emboldened by the Left, are confident that only criminals and those riding in squad cars have access to firearms.

In late October 2014, DC politicos crafted a very narrow “may-issue” policy awarding carry permits on the basis that at least one of three conditions can be met: A) there’s a clear and immediate threat to personal safety, B) the applicant works with enough physical currency or items of high value to create a substantiated risk of theft or harm, or C) the applicant cites responsibility for protecting a disabled family member. Further, the applicant must prove they’ve not suffered from mental illness within the last five years. And finally, they have to undergo 18 hours of certified training.

Once the applicant squeezes through the eye of that needle, further restrictions await: No personal weapon can be carried on public transportation, at schools, in any government buildings, bars, hospitals, stadiums, at any protests, or around the White House. An approved permit holder would also have to remain 1,000 feet from any U.S. or foreign dignitary.

By the way, 1,000 feet is more than the length of three football fields. Is anyone in DC that far from a “dignitary”?

As a result of this blatant attack on the constitutional rights of DC citizens, three applicants filed a lawsuit in federal court to combat the ruling. And they succeeded. In his 23-page opinion, U.S. District Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. wrote, “For all intents and purposes, this requirement makes it impossible for the overwhelming majority of law-abiding citizens to obtain licenses to carry handguns in public for self-defense, thereby depriving them of their Second Amendment right to bear arms.”

Though the restrictions remain regarding places and proximities that permit holders may carry their weapons for self-defense, this new judgment provides some remedy for a city where almost the entire government, from the mayor to the city council to the attorney general, is vehemently anti-gun.

Following the reversal of the unconstitutional ban in late October 2014, the Metropolitan Police Department began accepting applications for carry permits. Of the 107 applications filed as of May 9, only 26 have been approved.

So, in addition to the 3,000 DC citizens who are officially allowed to have arms to protect their homes, there are a whopping 26 individuals who have a carry permit for personal self-defense. All else in DC is a “gun-free zone.” Which means, of course, more guns are in the hands of criminals than with the law-abiding citizens denied their Second Amendment rights.

The 18th Century French political philosopher Montesquieu, known for his belief that free governments are dependent on fragile constitutional arrangements and freedom from tyrants, would sum up the DC denial of rights thusly: “There is no crueler tyranny than that which is perpetuated under the shield of law and in the name of justice.”

Plagiarizing this quote from Margaret Thatcher – who challenged the legislation of the British Parliament – concerning this condition, is not this same question needing answer in this nation? Today the separation of wealth is exponentially increasing daily. While our administration, and the congress, in some lack of comprehension, accepts it as fait accompli. Is not the question: why is it occurring, and knowing that, determining how to correct it?

Understanding economics, or enterprise which is more appropriate for understanding, often lacks explanation of why something occurs. Even without or lacking the why, the identification, some men – great men – comprehend the fact the arena of enterprise, even in a nation with this foundation of all men are equal, has pitfalls to be concerned. Thomas Jefferson visualized the greatest danger to this nation as – preventing an economic monarchy.

Others identified this danger in different ways. Benjamin Franklin warned this nation’s citizens, never let the government become involved in business. Think of that today. Today this nation’s government, not only is into every aspect of our nation’s enterprise, our businesses, but the major driver, the truly totalitarian sovereign dictating the very activity of those businesses – resulting in the dictatorship of our society by government fiat.

The question that we, the citizens of this nation, should wonder; why is there not anyone, in the press, the government, running for political office, or even in the hallowed halls of academia addressing this reality, and explaining it to us, those same citizens?

For far too long this nation has been accelerating on a projected path lacking any knowledge of what they are doing, or even considering the consequences if these paths are taken. Our leadership is worse than a stoner, worse than a drunk, worse than one mentally retarded, for they have refuted reason, rejected history, dismissed what we know from past attempts, and in this lack of mental evaluation, are accelerating this nation toward its destruction.  

To look at this reality, this fact the ‘Poor are getting Poorer, and the Rich are getting Richer,’ where is the observation, where is the explanation of what is the reason this is happening, and why it is occurring? If we asked all Americans, why is this occurring, we’d have all the answers – it is happening – and our enlightened one, oBOMBa, is redistributing the wealth of those Rich to those Poor, without the slightest understand of the why!

Economics is, and has been a topic requiring understanding, evaluation, and then conclusion, why is it we have none of that occurring in the government, the press, or even academia, or the financial institutes of this nation? There is two possible conclusions we, the citizens of this nation, can make. First, is they are clueless of the why, resulting in the reality as in so many actions of the government, they are clueless. The other, is they completely understand the why, and understanding the why, advocate it for their benefit the hell with this nation.

Sounds pretty cruel, accusing those with the power to correct, identify the problem, and correct the problem are either malicious in their actions, or completely stupid of the reason, the cause. Reality is reality, there is no other evaluation any rational person, with just the slightest of comprehension of this danger, this debauchery of our currency, and our nation’s economic vitality would not reject and refute. The proof of this fact is obvious. Today this nation, this economic wonder, by the intrusion of government spending and borrowing is in debt, estimated between $215 and $250 TRILLION dollars. Those numbers are so beyond comprehension the average, or even the most fictioneer of those with the ability to create and accept such fiction, can even make a comparative, some reference. To put it into perspective here is the thing to remember. On this planet today, if we were able to gather every dollar, every currency of every nation, it would not equal the size of the debt this nation now has – not on the books, for it is unrecognized – is greater than this combined total of all wealth. Simply, this nation is in debt, by the actions of the government, in debt greater than all of the wealth, which is in existence in all nations on this planet’s surface. We owe more than what actually exists. If this isn’t the epitome, the confirmation our government is absolutely incompetent, there is no way to make the reality of reality comprehendible.

To acerbate this incomprehensible conclusion is the minutia this nation’s citizens – those who at least take the time attempting to understand this insanity in action – are exposed by the casuistry, not clever but unsound reasoning, of journalist and author’s fictions lacking reality.

Such literate insanity of this nation – comparing enterprise, and what we identify as economic activity – can be identified in the current minutia of economic presentation. One such absolute fiction that is a complete incommensurable nostrum of inimical egregious nefarious je ne sais quoi is the Picketty fiction of ‘Capital in the twenty-First Century.’

The last sentence was deliberately written with wording we don’t use in normal conversation. The point it is emphasizing is the journalistic effort of the presentation ‘Capital in the twenty-First Century’ for it is the same as the sentence. If one has no understanding of economics, or understanding enterprise the commercialism of this nation – as the words we don’t use often, thus not knowing their meaning – are initiated, while having no comparative, no background, no understanding of what the presentation is. The expropriated minutia of communist ideology from Marx, who in his presentation ‘Das Capital’ is, and always will be the absolute epitome of distortion of economic reality ever written by mankind. Picketty’s effort contained nothing of originality. The distortions of Marx are not only repeated, they are presented as if something new, not recognizing the plagiarism or acknowledging the theft – which by the way is the foundation, the baseline of communism – from the dystopia, the illusion, the fallacy of an utopia ever known, of Marx’s ‘Das Capital.’

To redo, as in Hollywood they take an old script and sell it with new presentation, new actors, as if it is something new, is accepted. To take an ideology of insanity, communism, and sell it as something identifying what is wrong with our society of enterprise is absurdity.

Sadly, we don’t live in this society where free choice is not allowed. Not the fault of the communist Democratic Party, or the Socialist Republican Party, as in every piece of legislation they are ‘compromising’ to pass is aimed at their objective, which is, no American has free choice of anything. If they succeed, one of the rules they could make is, you could not buy Picketty’s illusion, unless you’d read Marx’s fallacy. Then at least there, if in one’s literacy comprehension occurs, some idea of what a bunch of minutia both of these presentations are.

Here is even a greater fallacy, the distortion, the permeation of rearranging reality to comply with some false fiction that does not, will not, and can never exist. Why, why is there no one, even approaching in any way the greatest problem this nation is facing? Reality cannot be changed, today, no one, no individual in any segment of society cannot refute the reality; today in this nation the acceleration of the ‘Rich getting Richer’ and the ‘Poor getting Poorer’ is occurring at an ever exponential rate.

What do we hear about this? The only time it is referenced, is when the absolute insanity of using the government as the agent of theft, to steal from some, and redistribute it to the others – absolute insanity – is advanced. 

Why, why is there not one iota, some singular reference, some example, some identifiable reason of this phenomena and the why it is occurring?

Yet the reason is as obvious as the reality of – certainly not global warming, as it has not justification – the fact we live on planet earth, in our solar system, in the Milky Way, racing through the universe.

In the history of this nation, one group of idealism made measurement of addressing the exact problem this nation is being inundated by today. Thomas Jefferson advocated a concept that is mislabeled even to this day as Jeffersonian democracy. It is mislabeled for the simple reality that the democracy of Jefferson’s vision, was not, is not, and never was conceived to be what we – in this nation – have as what we call, democracy, in this nation today. In the reality of reality, much of what Jefferson advocated, once being applied, have led to the genesis, the petri dish of creating so many of the problems of this nation today. Yet there are a few concepts that hold true today as when they were first identified. One of his observation , common as the economic vitality of this nation was based on agrarian activity, was simply the farmer best exemplifies civic virtue and independence from corrupting city influences; government policy should be for his benefit (the theme of the Declaration of Independence, all are created equal by their creator). Financiers, bankers, and industrialists make cities the 'cesspools of corruption', and should be avoided. Many of Jefferson’s observations, and advancements history has confirmed were in error, creating many of the problems we have today. Some were applied exactly opposite of the actual intent, resulting in what should be expected, the exact opposite result. Yet the fact that must be remembered is, these were observations of the nation at that time. That time was not today, the conditions were different, the economy was different, the population was different; yet the reality of facts identified ‘government policy should be for all citizens’ benefit. Financiers, bankers, and industrialists make cities the 'cesspools of corruption', and should be avoided. Is as valid today in our society as it was when advocated by those who called themselves then the Republican Party – advancing Republicanism – which meant opposition to aristocracy of any form, opposition to corruption, insistence on virtue, and equal rights for all citizens, with a priority for the ‘yeoman farmer’, ‘planters’ and the ‘plain folk’. Or to say it in simpler terms, their priority was for those who did, who did the work, made the products, and produced all of the needs of society. They were antagonistic to the aristocratic elitism of merchants, (corporations were not ever considered as they had been rebuked by the constitution congress). Bankers, (there was no Fed … Federal Reserve Bank … making money out of thin air for the benefit of government spending). Manufacturers, (using government for crony capitalism, not the invisible hand of economic decisions). Distrusted factory workers, (unions were not, and unions for economic advancement unknown. While they then remained on alert identifying those who supported the dreaded British – central planning – design subservient to government dictating all activity. 

So who is responsible for the ‘Rich getting Richer’, and the ‘Poor getting Poorer’?

There is no economic publication that I’ve known that addresses this – not phenomena – but reality that currently exists. The aleatory concept, that the insanity of what our government is doing, just isn’t working because of some random event, such as something by chance that has occurred; is a boldfaced lie and distortion of fact.

One of the major factors is simply, the reality that the Keynesian policy of demand side economic equation is as false today as when first proposed. History is our witness. During the introduction of this insanity – which incidentally is preached as doctrine in every economic institute of academics – is as ludicrous today, as when attempted under the Franklin Roosevelt administration. In congressional hearing to explain why this insanity did not work, Henry Morgenthau, Jr., then the Secretary of the Treasury who was a major player in America’s first attempt of communism, the ‘New Deal’ made this testimony ‘We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and if I am wrong … somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises. … I say after eight years of this Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started. … And an enormous debt to boots!’

Is this not déjà vu to the current debacle this nation is experiencing today? What does it take – getting kicked in the head by a mule – to have this nation wake up and realize that the national … recognized debt … has more than doubled in this current administration, with the same results Henry Morgenthau, Jr identified then? Over $10 trillion dollars, borrowed, without no more illusion it can ever be repaid has been spent by this insane administration, with identical results. The unemployment is as bad as it was when begun. The poverty, the destruction of employment is accelerating, the jobs – because of cost of government dictated expenses, oBOMBa care, EPA requirement, energy costs, employment cost, increased taxation – are disappearing as fast as deck space on the Titanic as it was sinking below the waves. To apply application with a proven track record of failure, is the definition of insanity. This is the perfect icon of this present administration.

That’s one reason the ‘Poor are getting Poorer!’

Here is the other death knell, the other harbinger of this nation’s citizen’s destruction. It is the debaucher of the currency, the devaluation of the dollar that working citizens – those who make the things society needs, those same folks that Jefferson was so concerned about – in the lack of understanding are having their wages destroyed by the actions of government, while toiling in complete ignorance. The simple analogy, that every time a dollar is spent by government, two and a half dollars are unavailable – removed from the enterprise of the nation – to be spent to improve and advance our economic condition. As such, each man paid in the artificial measurement of dollars, are in reality experiencing the fact that every second of every day, the dollars used in this society are diminishing in value on a continuum, every second, of every hour, of every day, for far too many years.

The other side of the equation, that the ‘Rich are getting Richer’ is caused how? Here is the dichotomy of the harsh reality of facts. The same power making the ‘Poor, Poorer’ is the same entity making the ‘Rich, Richer’.

The debauchery of the currency, which destroys the wages of the working man, are the antithesis for the man with assets to sell. When the value, the wealth of the dollar is depreciated, the number, the amount of dollar the worker must earn are less, as more and more dollars are required to buy that which he could today. Each and every day the dollar is debauched, reduced in value, the man with wealth in real assets, not dollars, has his wealth increased. This reality is ignored, and not identified, or even considered by the minutia of our press, our government, the banks, Wall Street, or any of those who benefit from this theft from all of society. Is it criminal, once upon a time in this nation it was. The directive of the government was to insure that the value of the dollar maintained that value – in not only purchasing power – but in the value of purchasing power, what was then a sound dollar. No more, since the fiat dollar of current – monetary and fiscal policy – value of the dollar is by design depreciated; stealing from all who have dollars.

As criminal as that is, it is not the way to make all men slaves. For to make men slaves, there is another tool that has been identified by all who would destroy this nation. If one finds the ten planks of Marx’s plan to destroy civilized society, making all men slaves; what is the first plank, the way to do it? The obvious is abolition of private property. What is the most personal private property anyone has? Is it not to have, and preserve the value of the wealth of your lifetime of work, the dollars you earn? If government can, by their actions, debauch the value of that effort, are they not stealing your property, your life from you?

To make it more draconian than that possibility, think of the concept of a heavy progressive or graduated income tax. Is not this the greatest advancement of totalitarian control over the citizens than the most malignant ideology every conceived by mankind?

It is this means – even worse than the debaucher of the currency – that all men in this nation are slaves. Some men, use this government incompetency to their advantage, stockbrokers, bankers, and others who have never created wealth, but manipulate, using the actions of the debauching of the currency to their advantage. The why the stock market is rising, while the real value of the dollar is falling. The taxation, recognized as the collar and chain that insures all men, using the power of the state, are kept as, and preserved as nothing but slaves.

As in all things, every problem this nation faces is today, as it was on the cusp of our genesis, is, and always has been, government.

Until this nation’s citizens wake up, and realize those words of our Declaration of Independence, told us: ‘That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.’ That security is to preserve the property, the wealth, and the lives of our citizens. How something is being destroyed not by the choice of our citizens, but by the incompetence of the very government to protect those rights is incomprehensible.

     (burtprelutsky.com) - When liberals set out to prove that conservatives are hypocrites, they will generally point out that many of the same people who are most opposed to abortions turn around and support capital punishment.

      In doing so, the liberals merely confirm they lack anything even faintly resembling a moral compass. After all, who but a leftist would ever equate the life of an innocent baby with that of a cold-blooded sadist? When comparing human lives, it helps if those on both sides are recognizably human. To suggest that some degenerate who has raped and murdered a child or eviscerated an entire family be allowed to live simply because he possesses fingerprints and human DNA seems fatuous at best, repugnant at worst.

     But, then, on those occasions when liberals aren’t immoral, their tendency is to be amoral, seemingly unaware that there are principles and values without which we are no better than the beasts of the jungle.

     Instead, what passes for morality on the Left tends to be an eagerness to take up for those they determine to be underdogs. So they side with rampaging black thugs, illegal aliens and even the Palestinians, having decided that their terrorist activities are merely the actions of freedom fighters opposing Israeli oppression.

     What’s more, because leftists are as merciless as Islamic throat-cutters, they will never hesitate to lie if they feel it serves their purpose. For instance, in the aftermath of the Hobby Lobby case, they insisted that the company had refused to offer contraception to its employees. That was a patent falsehood, and what’s more they knew it. Hobby Lobby had simply refused on religious grounds to offer four of the 24 contraceptive methods currently available, because they were deemed not to prevent conception, but, instead, to cause abortions.

    In the aftermath, all the Left talked about were the four exclusions, not the other 20. For my part, in a nation where sex education appears to begin in the second or third grade and where contraceptive meds and devices are readily available, I’d think abortions would be a thing of the past. The question, why, at this late date, a million abortions a year are still taking place should be the topic under discussion, not whether Christians should be deprived of their religious rights.

     But, of course, liberals are never concerned with anyone else’s freedoms and liberties, but only their own. That is why they oppose even a 20-week deadline for abortions. So far as they’re concerned, women should be able to abort a baby even in the delivery room. If you think I exaggerate, Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, head of the DNC, refused to come up with a cutoff date after which women should ever be denied an abortion. When asked if curtailing abortions even after the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy might be appropriate, she simply kept insisting that it was entirely up to the woman.

     Also, let us not forget that as a member of the Illinois state legislature, Barack nObama voted to allow the killing of babies who managed to survive botched abortions, meaning that even post-partum murders are okey-dokey with this crowd.

     I suspect, based on the evidence, that a sizable number of those on the Left would favor aborting 17 and 18-year-olds if the mothers sensed conservative tendencies cropping up in their offspring.

     The more I see and hear liberals, the more convinced I become that they are those monstrous creatures one finds in sci-fi movies who come here from another planet, possessing the ability to transform themselves into things closely resembling human beings, lacking only a conscience and a soul to make the masquerade complete.

     ♦ After writing about capital punishment recently, I heard from several people. Because of the nature of my readership, I didn’t hear from any of those saps who oppose the ultimate punishment for the ultimate crime. For the most part, the readers divided into two camps. On the one hand, there were those who proposed various ways to execute with the least pain possible, while others competed to come up with the most gruesome executions, some involving dungeons and ravenous rodents.

     In rebuttal to one, who had recently been rendered unconscious while having his cataracts removed, and felt that a little more of whatever he received from the anesthetist would do the trick, no muss, no fuss, I readily acknowledged that he was more compassionate than I am. But I felt that his empathy was somewhat misplaced because it seemed to ignore the pain experienced by the victim and the irreplaceable loss to his or her loved ones.

     I went on: “Frankly, providing sadistic killers a painless death is really low on my list of priorities. Unfortunately, liberals have done a great job of garnering influence over the legal system. In the old days, you could appeal a death sentence only if you came up with new evidence showing that the cops had perjured themselves, the prosecutor had withheld evidence beneficial to the defendant or, in those rarest of instances, when someone else confessed to the crime.

     “But these days, the defense lawyers merely have to dig up a liberal judge who’ll grant them one stay of execution after another while the killer lives on and on, outliving his victim by 20 or 30 years, often hanging on until a liberal governor decides to commute his sentence.
.
     “In the meantime, because of all the stalling tactics, a backlog builds up on Death Row, so that those opposed to capital punishment can argue that it would be barbaric to execute hundreds of individuals. What they invariably neglect to mention is that the backlog of sadists and serial killers only exists because these assorted shysters and sob sisters prevented the executions from taking place in a timely fashion.”

     ♦ One other source of constant annoyance to me is Pope Francis. From the very beginning of his papacy, I had the feeling that he hadn’t been elected by the Congress of Cardinals, but by the Comintern. He mouths the same leftwing platitudes as the Castros, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. But perhaps his most offensive act yet was his recent recognition of Palestine as an independent state, giving Hamas, the terrorist group governing the Palestinians, just the sort of legitimacy jihadists crave.

     I am reminded that the late Abba Eban, Israel’s onetime ambassador to the United States, once said, after the Arabs had, as usual, stormed out of a peace conference, “The Arabs never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.”

     Eban, one of the few diplomats who has ever managed to give diplomacy a good name, also suggested that “History teaches us that men and nations behave wisely only after they’ve exhausted all other options.”
.
     After Israel’s miraculous victory in 1967, when it was attacked simultaneously by Egypt, Jordan and Syria, in what became known as the Six Day War, Eban wryly commented: “I think that this is the first war in history that on the morrow the victors sued for peace and the vanquished called for unconditional surrender.”

     Instead of consorting with the tawdry likes of Secretary of State hanoi John Kerry and the representatives of Islamic terrorist groups, I would advise Pope Francis to pay closer attention to the wise words of Eban, who, from his position as Ambassador to the U.N., noted: “If Algeria introduced a resolution declaring that the earth was flat and that Israel had flattened it, it would pass by a vote of 164 to 13, with 26 abstentions.”

My wife Mary said perhaps Baltimore will come to it's senses upon realizing the financial consequences (at least $20 million) of allowing the thugs to wreck havoc.  I said to her, you are mistaken oh wise and beautiful one. The liberal zealots running Baltimore do not give a rat's derriere about consequences financial or otherwise. All that matters is furthering their liberal socialist/progressive big government controlling everything and everyone agenda. If Leftists are nothing else, they are persistent, patient and unshakably focused on achieving their goals.

For crying out loud, the Baltimore Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby is running around acting like an anti-police pit bull, giving speeches in churches to rally the black community against the police.  Dear Lord what evil has overtaken my former home town? Before I moved to Florida fifteen years ago, Baltimore was promoted as “Charm City”. I received a citation from former Mayor Kurt Schmoke for the song I wrote about my beloved city. A CD of my song “Hello Baltimore” was included in the city's Bicentennial time capsule.

Visiting Baltimore five years after I moved, a black Baltimore cop friend told me crime had gotten much worse. He said metal detectors were installed in public schools and almost every black nightclub. This does not support the Left's claim that cops are the problem.

My brother said his white girlfriend won tickets for a show at the famous Hippodrome theater. The riots made her afraid to venture to downtown Baltimore. My brother dropped her and a female friend off at the theater door and picked them up immediately after the show.

Folks, there is a pony hidden in the pile of excrement which is Baltimore politics. The dire consequences of full blown liberalism are exposed for all the world to see.

It’s a bill that will accomplish the goals of those who want to restrict the Second Amendment all in the name of “safety.” Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) introduced for the second time her Firearm Risk Protection Act, legislation that would require anyone buying a gun to have liability insurance. If a purchaser were found to be buying without insurance, they would be slapped with a $10,000 fine. First, such a bill would raise the cost of exercising a constitutional right, making it that much harder for the poor to defend themselves. Second, requiring insurance creates a larger paper trail for those who want to track the sale of firearms. “We require insurance to own a car, but no such requirement exists for guns,” Maloney said in a statement. “The results are clear: car fatalities have declined by 25 percent in the last decade, but gun fatalities continue to rise.” We’re not so sure insurance caused that reduction. If so, then let’s pile on the health insurance! Don’t want to get heart disease or cancer. Furthermore, this bill is not about preparing for a catastrophic event — say a citizen needs to cover legal expenses if he or she is sued for using a gun in self-defense. This bill is about burdening lawful gun ownership.

Governor Palin on Facebook 05/30/15

"Yet another anti-freedom politician jumps in the race today for POTUS. As cool as he is with his rock ‘n roll persona, this typical liberal’s erroneous grasp of our Bill of Rights merely continues the strange and disastrous agenda of Barack Obama. Good to know he doesn’t have much chance of winning. The democrats have greased the skids for their chosen one, despite the media games that play the public with various "competing" campaigns used for gamey distractions.

With today’s more-of-the-same distract-sphere – with the politician sounding exactly like all the others – don’t you wonder if there are ANY good old fashioned Blue Dog democrats who can represent the left’s party in the 2016 race? I feel kind of bad for democrats who are as embarrassed about their party leaving them as some of us Republicans are about our own party when we hear the GOP talk a good game but dishonorably capitulate when given the majority power to stop Obama’s nonsense.

By now, most of those ol’ Reagan democrats have come to realize that it was the party of Lincoln and Reagan all these years fighting for and winning the abolishment of slavery, civil rights for all Americans, equal rights for women, free markets, individual liberty, constitutional protections, private sector job growth, and a sensible foreign policy rooted in peace through strength. For those who still identify as democrats, it’s quite easy to bid a deceptive party an overdue farewell. Just tell me what state you’re a resident of, and I’ll post links to your voter registration office. Click on it. There you can finally bust free of a party that’s long since abandoned you. I recommend then registering "independent," or the equivalent of, in your state. Your newfound sweet freedom will empower you!

Here’s just one reason to do it: abolishing your name from the liberal’s roll chips away at the democrat party’s foundation that actually supports un-American acts like this:

I noticed in her Facebook post that Governor Palin encouraged traditional and Reagan Democrats to leave the party, but to register as independent rather than join the GOP. Hmm... Could this be a hint as to her future plans?

I remember Mark Levin talking about being an inch away from leaving the GOP.

Considering recent events, isn't it time he walked over that last inch? It would be quite a firestorm if Sarah Palin and Levin both left the GOP at the same time. Right now the GOP is in such bad shape a move like that might be a good thing, especially if 2016 ends up Hillary vs. Jeb. After all, at that point, what difference would it make?

After reading Sarah Palin's post...I believe it's looking likely if she does enter...she'll enter the race as an Independent. In my mind's eye I zeroed in on Sarah Palin's use of the word "Independent" and I'm reading the tea leaves with that wording. If Sarah Palin enters the race...I doubt she'll run as a Republican. She's pretty much calling them out...although I suspect she could be hitting them a lot harder. Notice she didn't say anything about the TPP bill and the people who supported it...including the ones she endorsed to Congress.

Her silence on this matter suggests she's trying to figure out how to navigate that minefield given people like Sen Ted Cruz actually voted for it. It's going to be interesting to see if Sarah Palin acknowledges the Guardian's investigation into the "votes" that were bought for the bill's passage and mentioning the tally of those running for re-election in 2016 getting all that money for their "yes" votes. That's classic "crony capitalism" as defined by Sarah Palin herself as she described it in her speech in...(Iowa!) of all possible places.

Now, if Sarah Palin does run but as an Independent...she'll destroy the Republican party. They will howl in rage at "irrelevant" little Sarah Palin who dares to kick sand into their faces and ruin their party. (Just imagine Dana Perino's face on the Five if this happens!) I believe if Sarah Palin decides not to run...I think her game plan is to let the Republicans shoot themselves in the foot once again and let the air out of the Hindenberg and start over by 2020. If she takes this route...that's an awfully long calculated gamble in my opinion.

The 2014 mid-terms landslide with its Boehner re-election aftermath, had a similar expression of Tea Party/conservative disgust as did the 2012 landslide. Now, as then, voices have been raised calling for a conservative third party.

Leaving aside persons and personalities, if the question of the viability of a third party is to be considered outside of the emotion of the moment, disgust with this or that possible Establishment candidate, then the Electoral College and constitutional issues need to be examined.

Even with massive enthusiasm and huge grass roots funding behind such a movement, history shows that victory first time up would be unlikely (although a major economic dislocation could prove an exceptional catalyst). Teddy Roosevelt crushed the Republican establishment in 1912, but lost heavily to the Dem’s, La Follette had substantial enthusiasm at 19.24% of the popular vote but did poorly in the Electoral College, as did Perot 18.9% and George Wallace13.5%.

In 1856, the new Republican Party lost in their first outing, whilst performing credibly and, after the next election, became the major force in presidential politics for the next 56 years. Thus the Whigs, who displaced the Federalists, and the Republicans who replaced the Whigs, prove that a new party can, if there is a major social shift, not only do well but can become a dominant force.

Below are illustrations of how a new party could eclipse the GOP as it now stands and win in 2016, although 2020 in a straight two party race would seem more likely. The major question would be whether, if the new party did well but did not win, it could stay around for another run-unlike Roosevelt’s Progressive Party.Thus those who might consider a new party would have to also consider the massive commitment it would require.

The question is, would a third party run give it a realistic chance of winning the presidency in 2016?

The answer is, yes if the environment is right. If by November 2016 the economy is not better than now, or has turned down massively, and if Romney or Jeb Bush were the GOP’s candidate which caused  conservatives to bolt, then a three way vote split is quite possible.

This approximates the three party (Dem/Bull Moose/GOP) 1912 election. That election was prevented from being thrown into the House because sitting President Taft only carried two states, but split the vote with Roosevelt 23% to 27% denying Roosevelt enough electoral votes to stop Wilson having an outright win.

Whereas the scenario below, realistically for the situation over 100 years later, shows the GOP candidate winning enough electoral votes to ensure no candidate had a majority.

It would require a genuine conservative, like Palin, who is the only person with enough name recognition, support base and fundraising ability to have any chance, to head a mass movement third party run. Concomitantly, if there was a major economic downturn, and a split in the left was exacerbated to the point that the “Progressives” stayed home on election day, and the Tea Party turned out en-mass, then the map below (with the prospective third party states in beige) is a very plausible result.

In this scenario the Democratic candidate would not have the 270 electoral college votes needed for outright victory. Under the constitution, the GOP standard bearer, the Dem, and the third party candidate would be the candidates the House would decide from. (presuming no other candidate had any electoral college votes. If they did they would be eliminated from the balloting as only the top three go through for consideration)

Every state would have one vote based  on the result of each states party representation. Thus, for example New York’s one vote would go to the Dem, and Wyoming’s one vote would go to the new Conservative Party, or to the Republican. Given the Republican, in this scenario, would have no chance of winning, it would be presumed that the votes of the states that Republican had won would go to the Conservative. This, if after the first ballot, no candidate had a majority of states votes, and if the conservative was the second choice of general election voters as per the map below.

Given it would be unlikely that the GOP would lose control of the House and the state caucus delegations, thus, on the most recent analysis, the GOP would have a majority of the 50 states votes based on caucus outcomes when balloting.

This scenario played out before. In the election of 1824 Andrew Jackson finished first with more electoral votes than John Quincy Adams, William Crawford came third and Henry Clay fourth. With Clay eliminated he threw the support of his states to Adams, who was duly elected, based on the fact of his having the majority of states.

Interestingly the combined Adams/Clay popular vote was 43.9% to Jackson’s 41.3% so in effect electoral justice was done. Similarly in the map below the combined non-Dem electoral vote is 274-four above the minimum of 270, and thus electoral justice would also have been done 187 years later

The full constitutional scenario is set out below the map.”Undecided” means third party  and the map represents a 2016 scenario disregarding Obama as the Democratic candidate. In the ensuing map from 1912 it clearly shows how a sitting president can only carry two states as did Taft so the scenario is entirely plausible.

Wilson received 41.7% of the vote and 435 Electoral College votes/Roosevelt 27.4 and 88/Taft 23.2% and 8. Thus Roosevelt/Taft had a popular vote majority (The Socialist Debs received 6%)

The constitution is very clear on the matter. Article 12 states, inter- alia:

“The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed; and if no person have such majority, then from the persons having the highest numbers not exceeding three on the list of those voted for as President, the House of Representatives shall choose immediately, by ballot, the President. But in choosing the President, the votes shall be taken by states, the representation from each state having one vote; a quorum for this purpose shall consist of a member or members from two-thirds of the states, and a majority of all the states shall be necessary to a choice.”

Thus, if the no candidate with an electoral college majority scenario plays out, and presuming there are no other candidates who have won electoral votes, the House would meet to choose the next president by January 20th 2017, with the states having one vote each, whilst the Senate would meet to choose the Vice-President.

Based on the current composition of the House, and if voting went strictly on party lines, with no vote switching or abstentions in states with a close proportion of Republicans and Democrats, the Independent (or third party) candidate would be chosen on the first or second ballot.

The Electoral College map is of course set out for illustrative purposes only. Given a political, social and economic environment in such a state of flux that a major third party effort had arisen there is no way of knowing, at this point in time, how any particular state might go on election day. The point is however, that there is a scenario where none of the three candidates had an Electoral College majority and thus a new, third party candidate could win-if not in 2016 then in 2020 — once the movement had bedded down and the GOP had gone the way of the Whigs.

Clearly, all the possible ducks would have to be in a row, a major personality such as Governor Palin would have to lead the new party and, as always money would be the determinate of how far along such a movement could go. Even a Perot or a Bloomberg or a Trump with all their personal wealth in such an undertaking, could only get so far and the fundraising, without corporate or Establishment support would have to be unprecedented from the grass roots. However if the economic and political winds had shifted enough and corporate America saw the GOP had no chance, and perhaps some of the newly wealthy entrepreneur class were interested the finance might become available at that point.

The only guarantee that can be confidently stated is that if a major third party did get underway the windmill it tilted at, without the finance required, would be the GOP’s whose 2016 candidate would be doomed.Whether that is a bad result would be a matter for ones personal predilections, if it brought an internal Reaganite revolution for 2020 perhaps the third party concept might not prove to be quite so quixotic in the end.

 EPA Expands Authority Over America's Waterways  
More than a year after initially proposing it, and despite efforts by congressional Republicans to block such a move, the Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Army Crops of Engineers, citing authority under the Clean Water Act, enacted a new rule that gives the federal government additional control over waterways. "The nObama administration issued a rule on Wednesday putting more small bodies of water and wetlands under federal protection to ensure clean drinking supplies," The Wall Street Journal reports, a power grab that "is estimated to put about 3% more waterways throughout the U.S. under new federal jurisdiction." nObama officials say they're simply maximizing existing legal authority. According to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, "This rule is about clarification, and in fact, we're adding exclusions for features like artificial lakes and ponds, water-filled depressions from constructions and grass swales." However, the Journal adds, "The rule seeks to require those kinds of permits for only those waterways that have physical features of flowing water."
          And that's exactly the concern, explains Hot Air's Jazz Shaw: "The physical feature of flowing water? Depending on the conditions, the slope of the land and how much it rains on any given day, that could apply to pretty much anything." Moreover, "People who own property adjacent to or including swampy areas with poor drainage can (and already have) run afoul of the feds if they want to improve the drainage to dry out a section for construction or just a better looking lawn." As Mark Alexander wrote last month, Democrats, led by the powerful EPA, leverage environmental concerns to conceal their real agenda — the constriction of free enterprise. Their objective is to incrementally implement centralized economic control through regulatory requirements justified by ever-expanding "mandates." In implementing its newest rule — "one of nearly 10 that the EPA is slated to complete in coming months," the Journal notes — the agency is essentially saying, "Trust us." That's a dangerous thing to oblige when Liberty is at stake.  -The Patriot Post

 Krauthammer: How Amnesty Smackdown Hurts Republicans  
Fox News political analyst Charles Krauthammer offered his two cents on Tuesday's decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit to keep a temporary injunction in place blocking executive amnesty. According to Krauthammer, "For the Republicans, it's a problem." Here's why: "It's like the case going forward on nObamaCare and the thing about the exchanges and the subsidies. The problem is what happens if you win? Because if you win then the issue gets thrown back into the political arena." He argues, "If somehow this would be completely tossed out, then the question will be, 'what's your plan on immigration reform,' if anything. I think up until now, you can say, 'well it's in the hands of the courts.' But at a certain point it's not going to be and you're going to have to answer." Like or not, he's right. Immigration is a sour topic, but taking Barack nObama's diktats to court isn't enough. Lest they want to commit political suicide, conservatives will eventually have to rally around viable solutions to the illegal immigration problem and present them in an articulate manner.  -The Patriot Post

 Santorum Announces Second Attempt at Presidency  
Rick Santorum, the former senator from Pennsylvania who appealed to conservative evangelical voters during the 2012 presidential election, announced Wednesday he will once again seek the GOP nomination for the White House. Traditionally known for his value-voter stance on same-sex marriage and abortion, Santorum may try to broaden his appeal this time around. On May 21, Santorum told the Southern Republican Leadership Conference, "We are not going be successful unless we have a message that talks to the people who are struggling to rise." But while he came second place to Mitt Romney four years ago, he faces longer odds this time around. Statistics blog FiveThirtyEight says Santorum is running in a more crowded field this time around. This places him around 10th place in the popularity polls, right around the cutoff of the number of candidates Fox News and CNN says they will invite to preliminary presidential debates. In other words, Santorum does not only have to fight about issues, he's running an underdog fight that may be felled by the arbitrary rules created by a media company. More...  -The Patriot Post

 Your Viewing Guide to Sunday's Showdown Over the Patriot Act  
In the wake of Sept. 11, 2001, passing the Patriot Act seemed the inarguably patriotic thing to do. Nearly 14 years later, however, the lines of patriotism are less clearly drawn. Up for reauthorization, the act is facing staunch opposition — and creating strange bedfellows — in the wake of increasing concerns over government spying on the American people.
          Last week, the House, by a vote of 338-88, passed not a reauthorization of the full Patriot Act but the equally patriotic sounding USA Freedom Act, which would continue the Patriot Act's surveillance powers but end specific practices including the NSA's data collection program (recently deemed illegal by a federal court), roving wiretaps and so-called lone-wolf surveillance tactics. Among other things, the USA Freedom Act would move the storage of telephone data from the federal government to telecommunications companies.
          Between the House and president, however, the Senate stands. With 60 votes needed, the upper chamber came up short of passing the USA Freedom Act, producing just 57 votes before heading home for Memorial Day. At issue are competing views of liberty within the Senate.  -The Patriot Post

(aim.org) - AIM Editor Roger Aronoff was a guest last week on the Philadelphia, PA Conservative Commandos radio show with Rick Trader to talk about Aronoff’s recent column “Stephanopoulos Fiasco is Par for the Course.”... ABC’s host George Stephanopoulos interviewed Clinton Cash author Peter Schweizer on April 26, in a confrontational broadcast designed to cast the author as a partisan out to tar the reputation of the Clinton family. As Aronoff pointed out on Trader’s show, Stephanopoulos “proceeded to do an interrogation more than a question-and-answer where you’re really trying to learn information from the author and what he has in the book.” This is par for the course for the mainstream media, argues Aronoff. The incestuous relationships between media and the administration are so extensive that disclaimers are necessary to alert viewers. Yet, where would that end? ​ Judge Blasts Admin Lawyer In Congress' Separation Of Powers 
(Jeff Dunetz) - Today was the first day in court for House of Representatives v. Burwell, et al., the often criticized lawsuit brought by the House against President nObama's overreached use of executive power... in changing elements of the nObamacare bill without a congressional vote. Specifically the actions being contested include authorizing Treasury payments to healthcare insurers without the funding being agreed by Congress and delaying implementation of the law's employer mandate, which required employers with more than 50 employees to provide healthcare coverage. The Administration of course began by trying to have the judge toss the lawsuit.  Iran doubles down in the fight for the Middle East

Matthew Mcinnis) - The Deputy Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) Quds Force, Brigadier General Esmail Ghani, finally admitted on May 23 that Tehran has been training the Houthi rebels in Yemen... For those watching the situation closely, the Quds Force’s (and certainly Lebanese Hezbollah’s as well) direct role in the Yemeni conflict was expected, but Ghani’s public confirmation was not. We are unlikely to see another heroic publicity campaign with Quds Force Commander Major General Qassem Soleimani rallying and guiding Houthi forces—as we did with Iran’s Shia proxies in Iraq after the fall of Mosul to ISIS last year. Ghani’s announcement signals, though, a new willingness for Iran to deepen its military involvement in Yemen, even as Tehran voices support for negotiations.      (aim.org) - I have been wrestling for some kind of explanation why the President of the United States, Barack nObama, would continue to talk about climate change and urge the global transition from fossil fuels to wind, solar and bio-energy. I have concluded that he thinks everyone, not just Americans, are idiots.

     We know he lies about everything, but these two topics are clearly near and dear to his heart. 
.
     My friend, Paul Driessen, is a policy analyst for the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, a free market think tank. Among the pundit class he’s ranked very high by his colleagues. Here’s what he has to say about climate change: 
.
     “Earth climate always has changed, is always changing, and always will change—but not from fossil-fuel use. Solar fluctuations, deep ocean circulation patterns, and other powerful natural forces have driven climate change and weather events throughout Earth’s history and will continue to do so.”
.
     “President nObama’s hubris is breathtaking. He now thinks an army of regulators can control our planet’s temperature and climate by tweaking emissions of plant-fertilizing carbon dioxide, a mere 0.04% of the atmosphere.”
.
     “America’s communities do not need to be protected from climate change. They need to be protected from the excesses of authoritarian presidents and bureaucrats.”
.
     Driessen and I look at and listen to nObama and wonder if others too see and hear someone uttering some of the most absurd claims about the climate. Then we worry that this someone is the President of the United States with the power to turn his ignorance into national policy.
.
     At this point we have suffered his initial failure to respond to the recession he inherited from the 2008 financial crisis. More than six years later the economy has barely moved toward a normal rate of growth. Then we were gifted with nObamaCare and the disruption of what was widely regarded as the best health system in the world. And, for good measure, he imposed Common Core on an already weakened educational system. It is being repealed and opposed in many states. For good measure, his foreign policy, if he has one, is widely regarded as a total failure.

     How is it a former “community organizer” possesses a seemingly vast understanding of meteorology? Did they also teach that at the Harvard Law School? “Climate change,” said nObama, addressing a graduating class of the Coast Guard Academy, “constitutes a serious threat to global security, an immediate risk to our national security, and make no mistake; it will impact how our military defends our country.”
.
     “Our military and our combatant commanders,” the President told the Academy graduates, “our services—including the Coast Guard—will need to factor climate change into plans and operations, because you need to be ready.” For what? For a rainstorm? For snow? Wind?
.
     This is the same President who sees no threat to our national security from Iran whose leaders shout “Death to America” every day when they aren’t also shouting “Death to Israel.” He has zealously been pursuing a deal that would enable Iran, the leading supporter of terrorism, to have nuclear weapons. Meanwhile Islamic State (ISIS) is taking over more territory in northern Iraq and into Syria. nObama might as well be dropping bags of marshmallows on them.

     He blamed climate change in the form of “severe droughts” for the rise of Islamism in the Middle East and Africa. Someone needs to tell nObama that there have always been severe droughts somewhere on the planet, and floods, and forest fires, and blizzards, and hurricanes. Even so, in the last eighteen years, there have actually been LESS of these natural events, along with the flatlining of the planet’s overall or average temperature—there has been no warming!

     Not content to blame climate change for the rise of terrorism, the White House issued a report that was described as “a doomsday scenario of health, security, economic and political issues.” The thing about climate is that it measured incenturies, not years. As for the weather, while records are maintained, it is usually reported as today’s news with a forecast of the coming week.

     So you shouldn’t be surprised that the report blamed “asthma attacks” on climate change!
.
     Suffice to say there isn’t a glimmer of hard evidence to support anything the President is saying these days about climate change.

     And this is the same President that wants the U.S. and the rest of the world to give up the use of fossil fuels—coal, oil and natural gas—to “stop climate change.”
.
     IF nObama’s climate change idiocy is just a way to distract Americans from the real problems we have encountered thanks to his failure to address them, then it is purely cynical and political.

IF nObama really believes this stuff, he is unfit to be President.
