100 years ago today, the last Caliph, or emperor of Islam, declared the last Jihad against the infidel– and today is the first time ever that the National Cathedral in the nation’s capital will host Muslim prayers.

Most American’s will have no idea that, as part of World War I, the then-Caliph of the Ottoman empire declared a Holy War against infidels, as was his right within sharia law and Islamic theology. You can read the full fatwa here (ignore the date of 1915 which is an original typo).

That statement by the last sitting head of what was the theocratic empire of Islam was the catalyst which led to religiously-fueled genocide against Christian Armenians and Assyrians.

The Episcopal church leaders who agreed to the host Muslim prayers inside the Washington cathedral probably have no idea what happened a century ago in Asia Minor, or that there even was a Caliph in office at the beginning of the 20th century.

However, we can rest assured that the co-organizers do, for they include the Council on Islamic-American Relations (CAIR), The Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), The Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) and the All-Dulles Area Muslims Society (ADAMS) Center.

Both CAIR and ISNA will be fully aware of the significance of November 14th, seeing as both organizations were declared by a federal court to be unindicted co-conspirators of Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood terror group, in the largest terrorist financing trial in US history.

Those muslims who have a supremacist understanding of their religion, such as members of Al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood – which was recently declared an illegal terrorist organization in the country of its founding, Egypt – have a special regard for historic dates and anniversaries.

It is, of course, no accident that the 9/11 attacks, the worst terror attacks in world history, occurred exactly to the day in 1683 when the Islamic Ottoman forces were defeated outside the city walls of Vienna, the deepest the Islamic Caliphate’s forces made it into the heart of the Christian West.

There is nothing inherently wrong about interfaith initiatives as long as they start from the same place: a mutual respect for the belief system of the other, and their inherent dignity as humans created by God. When one party acts in bad faith based upon its ideological commitment to see other faiths destroyed or subjected, then the event runs the risk of becoming a propaganda coup for the extremists and their followers.

The fact that this event is occurring just as ancient Christian communities are being destroyed in the Middle East and “non-believers” are being actually crucified by ISIS jihadists makes it all the more egregious.

We know that the Episcopal church is in trouble with more conservative believers leaving in great numbers and the remaining adherents not exactly outdoing their Catholic cousins in terms of reproducing the next generation of believers. But I doubt they also understand the finer points of jihadist doctrine, one of which is that if a place of worship is used by Muslims for their prayers, that territory subsequently becomes part of Dar al Islam, sacred muslim land. Forever.

November 11, 1914, the Ottoman Sheikh ul-Islam (supreme Muslim religious authority) issued fatwas (religious edicts) declaring a jihad against non-Muslim state enemies of the last Muslim “Caliphate.” Subsequent fatwas (see here;here) disseminated during the World War I era would target Christian minorities, under Sharia-based Ottoman Muslim rule, for genocidal jihadism against these hapless non-Muslim victims.

Notwithstanding the recent horrific spate of atrocities committed against the Christian communities of northern Iraq by the Islamic State (IS/IL) jihadists, the Ottoman jihad ravages were equally barbaric, depraved, and far more extensive. Occurring, primarily between 1915-16 (although continuing through at least 1918), some one million Armenian, and 250,000 Assyro-Chaldean and Syrian Orthodox Christians were brutally slaughtered, or starved to death during forced deportations through desert wastelands. The identical gruesome means used by IS/IL to humiliate and massacre its hapless Christian victims, were employed on a scale that was an order of magnitude greater by the Ottoman Muslim Turks, often abetted by local Muslim collaborators (the latter being another phenomenon which also happened during the IS/IL jihad campaign against Iraq’s Christians).

At best, willfully oblivious to this grim centennial remembrance—worse still, perhaps even callously disregarding it—Muslim spokespersons are trumpetingtheir forthcoming midday Islamic service, to be held Friday, November 14, 2014, in the National Cathedral, one of the most iconic Christian houses of worship in the U.S.

…Christians, overwhelmingly, and indeed all non-Muslims (herehere) in religiously bigoted, Sharia-supremacist Islamic societies across the globe, are being murdered and maimed by Muslims, not vice-versa. Moreover, “Islamophobia” is an utterly manufactured insignificance, while “sacralized” Islamic Jew-hatred is of epidemic proportions in Muslim societies, and within virtually all Muslim immigrant communities outside Islamdom.

In light of the impending National Cathedral Islamic service this Friday (11/14/14) it is also of critical importance for non-Muslims to understand what Koranic prayers Muslims recite during daily, and/or Friday “Jum’ah” prayer sessions, and how these specific verses from the Koran are to be interpreted. Prayers routinely uttered at daily, or specifically Friday/Jum’ah services, include, prominently, Koran suras 1, 87, and 88.

Non-Muslims must understand the traditionalist, mainstream Islamic understandings of these routine “sacralized” utterances just as Muslims are taught to interpret them, shorn of apologetics, or aggressive Islamic dissimulation.   Genocidal jihadism is the ugly living legacy of this bigoted Islamic doctrine, not “ecumenism.”

Gruber: ‘Obama Told Me to Lie’

It just doesn’t stop. Another video of MIT professor and ObamaCare architect Jonathan Gruber is out. This time, he explains that Barack Obama sought Gruber’s assistance telling lies to obfuscate their so-called Cadillac tax on premium health plans: “The problem is it’s a political nightmare, and people say, ‘No, you can’t tax my benefits.’ … So what we did a lot in that room was think a lot about, well, how could we make this work? … And [Obama] is really a realistic guy. He was like, ‘Look, I can’t just do this.’ He said, ‘It’s just not going to happen politically. The bill will not pass. How do we manage to get there through phase-ins and other things?’ And we talked about it. He was just very interested in that topic.” And that’s just part of how Gruber managed to rake in nearly $6 million doling out health care policy advice – often specifically to Barack Obama. Not bad for a guy who Obama says was “never on our staff” and had a bunch of opinions “that I completely disagree with.” Where do we sign up for that gig?

Fournier: Obama Destroyed Credibility of Government

National Journal writer Ron Fournier has long been a supporter of ObamaCare. But Jonathan Gruber’s inconvenient disclosures have made Fournier almost see a ray of light. “The problem is the central attribute you have to have as any leader, in any walk of life and certainly in government is trust,” Fournier said. “This president has destroyed the credibility of his administration himself and government itself.” We couldn’t have said it better. And for Fournier and his cohorts, that’s a huge problem – because they want Big Government to have credibility. “In the long run, as somebody who would like to see this bill work, I think they have really undermined it,” he added. “And it’s going to be harder to defend it.” Lies do have a tendency to reduce trust.

State of Emergency in Ferguson

It’s cold outside, but the streets in Ferguson, Missouri, may be about to heat up. The Washington Times reports, “Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard in advance of a grand jury decision about whether a white police officer will be charged in the fatal shooting of a black 18-year-old in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson. … The St. Louis County prosecutor has said he expects the grand jury to reach a decision in mid-to-late November.” We have surmised they’re waiting for cold weather before exonerating Officer Darren Wilson because frigid temperatures may help keep protesters off the streets. That said, protesters are better organized now than rioters were in August. Perhaps that’s because, as Al Sharpton recounted, Barack Obama met with them and encouraged them to “stay on course.”

GOP Can’t Oppose Obama on Climate Change

The White House believes the Republican majority in Congress cannot stop Barack Obama from enacting his sweeping environmental policies. Soon, the Obama administration will pass new ozone regulations, politic with the international community to create a global treaty in response to climate change, and renew his attack on the coal industry. John Podesta, a White House counselor, boasted to reporters, “I believe the president will complete actions. It is a top priority of his and I don’t believe they can stop us. Notwithstanding Sen. [Mitch] McConnell making this a top priority to leave the status quo, to leave the air dirtier.” He also forgot to mention that McConnell hates puppies. While Republicans have the majority, they don’t have a veto-proofmajority. They can’t defund the EPA without starting a roaring fight on Capitol Hill that may end up shutting the government down. At least in the short term, Obama continues unchecked.More…

If ISIL Gets the Bomb, U.S. Troops Will Fight

Barack Obama played the nuclear option against his military advisers. Sending U.S. troops to Iraq is still not in Obama’s playbook and he publicly contradicts his military advisers who want to keep the strategy open. Well, there is one scenario where Obama would send troops: if ISIL got its hands on a nuclear bomb. “There are always circumstances in which the United States might need to deploy U.S. ground troops,” Obama said. If we discover that ISIL had gotten possession of a nuclear weapon … then yes, you can anticipate that not only would Chairman [of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin] Dempsey recommend me sending U.S. ground troops to get that weapon out of their hands, but I would order it.“ That red line doesn’t extend to chemical weapons, apparently, and Obama is content to lead a waffling, less-than superpower. As Mitt Romney saidabout sending U.S. troops to the region, "You don’t take that as a source of our strength from the battlefield.”

Waiting for Reform at the VA

The Department of Veterans Affairs is making progress in reducing the number of veterans who have been waiting longest for care, according to James Hutton, a VA spokesman. Long-term wait-lists have been reduced by 57%, but the news isn’t all good. More than 600,000 veterans, 10% of all VA patients, still wait over a month for appointments at VA clinics and hospitals, according to a report by USA Today.

VA Secretary Robert McDonald, who took over the embattled department at the end of July, has been working overtime to get the VA back on track. Frequently crisscrossing the country to visit facilities and speak with VA administrators and veterans, McDonald discovered there is much left to do to raise the level of veterans' care to where it should be.

Since the wait-list scandal exploded earlier this year – revealing the outrageous fact that veterans were waiting in some cases more than a year to receive care – the department has dropped the number of chronic wait-times from 120,000 in May to 23,000 in October. The kicker is that a substantial amount of those veterans seeking care obtained it from private providers outside the VA system.

Some VA facilities still have long wait times, with 64 of them having average wait times of more than 60 days for new patients. Major facilities like Baltimore, Atlanta and Jacksonville each have at least 30,000 pending appointments. An additional 33 facilities have a two-month wait for new patients seeking mental health appointments.

McDonald announced a restructuring plan on Nov. 10, the day before Veterans Day. He wants to include a VA-wide customer service office, create new partnerships with private organizations that can help with the VA backlog, and take action to simplify the department’s structure. He is also seeking to expand the staff at VA hospitals.

McDonald is also moving to fire VA employees who do not meet the department’s values. “We are acting aggressively, expeditiously and consistent with the law,” he said. The VA has taken disciplinary action against 5,600 employees in the last year, but attempts to fire poor performers have been stymied by bureaucracy. VA executives who face the ax can appeal their firing with the Merit System Protections Board, which has a policy of addressing appeals within 120 days but has a significant backlog of cases stemming from last year’s government furlough. Two VA leaders – Deputy Chief Procurement Officer Susan Taylor and Dublin, Georgia, VA Director John Goldman – retired during the termination process with their pensions intact.

Restoring trust in the VA will be no easy task, and it won’t happen soon. The second largest government agency is home to the largest health care system in the country. McDonald doesn’t seem to be taking his job lightly. The former Procter and Gamble CEO is also a graduate of West Point, so there is at least hope that he is sincere in his efforts. The big question is whether he will get the congressional backing that he needs. The $17 billion bill Congress passed earlier this year included $360 million in employee bonuses that could have been better spent on our veterans. As long as there is a mentality by those in power in Washington to protect their own, veterans will suffer neglect.

Military Correctness Threatens Readiness

Leftists are more concerned with who you are than what you do. And the U.S. Armed Forces has become a prime target for social engineers to advance their twisted cultural agenda through a manufactured gender-identity crisis.

Here are but two examples:

First, the ongoing debate regarding roles and standards for women in certain military specialties reflects the Left-driven trend of favoring identity over ability. At the behest of women-in-combat advocates, the Pentagon directed the services to assess the impact of opening male-only combat specialties to women.

Seeking empirical evidence in order to respond objectively, the Marine Corps provisionally opened its Infantry Officer Course to females last year. None of the applicants had made it beyond the first major hurdle – the Combat Endurance Test (a.k.a., Endurance Course) – until three completed it last month. Proponents' hopes were quickly dashed, however, when all three were dropped soon thereafter for failing to meet standards in subsequent events.

Similarly, the Army recently announced a pilot program at its grueling Ranger School to assess “whether and how to open combat arms military occupational specialties to women.” While the Army’s announcement protests that standards will not be altered to accommodate the females, they would do well to learn from the Marines' experience.

As females have repeatedly failed to meet combat-tested standards – validating the existing restrictions – advocates have shifted their argument from “you can’t exclude them just because of their gender” to “you can’t exclude them just because they can’t meet the standards … the standards aren’t ‘fair.’” Leftists always have to move the goalposts to meet their objectives.

Second, in a similar vein, leftist social engineers are working to enforce “tolerance” of gender-disorientation pathology in the Armed Forces. The military is forcing a combat pilot into retirement because he tried to stop two lesbians from making out on the dance floor at a formal ball. According to a lawsuit against the Army for throwing the pilot under the bus, the couple was kissing for long periods, taking off each other’s jackets and a scene was developing.

According to The Washington Times, “Lt. Col. Christopher Downey, who was once assigned to the White House and completed tours in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, ended up being convicted administratively of assaulting a soldier trying to videotape the kissing and grabbing. Col. Downey’s attorney, Richard Thompson … said Col. Downey’s commanding officer also convicted him of violating the directive that ended the ban on gays openly serving in the military. ‘It’s political correctness run wild,’ Mr. Thompson said. ‘Military rules do not apply to lesbian officers because of political correctness.’”

These sorts of activists and incidents place our national security at risk by elevating identity above accomplishment and actions. The contrast with Congresswoman-elect Mia Love’selection-night emphasis on substance and results, for example, is stark and highlights one of the fundamental differences between Right and Left.

Japan’s economic plunge coincides with the disastrous blunder by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s government to raise the nation’s sales tax from 5 percent to 8 percent starting in April. To offset the negative effects of the tax hike, the Japanese central bank has flooded the nation with paper money; the yen has subsequently fallen in value relative to the dollar. … The nation has massively increased government ‘infrastructure’ spending to try to bump up demand. … But the spending only exploded net government debt as a share of GDP, which is now above 140 percent. So to lower the debt, the Abe government enacted the tax hike on consumers, which has had the predictable effect of reducing family spending. … It wasn’t so long ago that American intellectuals were fawning all over Japan as the planet’s new economic superpower. … If anything good can come out of this calamity it is that other nations learn the lesson that Keynesianism is a fraud. So why does Washington keep trying it?”

Three recent events with prophetic significance to US


There are many current events that have prophetic significance these days. A look to the the Middle East gives us several a day, especially with the advance of the so-called Islamic Caliphate, the Islamic State, in Syria and Iraq. The implications for coalescing an end time coalition of Islamic states against Israel are enormous and Turkey's involvement is also something to be placed on a constant watch list. The nations named in the Bible who are led by the antichrist, the Beast, in coming against Israel in the Day of the Lord are all Arab/Islamic with Gog of MaGog coming directly out of modern Turkey. There are, however, certain recent events that have dire prophetic implications here in America.


On November 3, the first tenets entered One World Trade Center, built on the site of the 9/11 Islamic attack on America. USA Today reported that the "408-foot spire" of the building "which weighs 758 tons, includes a broadcast antenna and a light that will be visible from miles away to serve as a both a beacon for aircraft and a permanent signal of triumph over extremists who jolted the city and the country." This "spire" is shaped identically to an Islamic minaret. Two blocks from the World Trade Center minaret is Park 51, originally slated to be a mosque. As of August 14, it is an Islamic museum, including an Islamic prayer space and condos developed by US-born Islamist Sharif El-Gamal.


The three: The National Cathedral was chartered by Congress in 1893 as a national house of prayer under the Protestant Episcopal Church Foundation. It was meant for Christian prayer. On November 14, Islam "claimed" the National Cathedral by holding Islamic prayer in the building. On November 16, the Islamic State announced the beheading of another American citizen and vowed to "slaughter your people on your own streets." The same day, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Islamic leaders that Muslims, not Columbus, discovered America in 1178. Erdogan's claims of a mosque being built on the location in 1178 are not remotely verified, but he says it would be good to build one there today.


Throughout the Holy Land, Islam claims Jewish and Christian Holy sites as their own. They erect mosques and minarets on those sites. It starts with a proclamation, then a symbol. Jerusalem and Bethlehem are excellent examples. The Islamic State has claimed or destroyed historic Christian sites throughout Syria and Iraq. Islam is claiming America as its own. They believe their acts legitimize and accelerate colonization. Meanwhile, Americans are expected to tolerate and embrace the most intolerant, barbaric, slavers and drug dealers in the world--Islam. These events are prophetic because they are a precursor to possible Islamic occupation of the US. 2 Corinthians 6:14 asks: "for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion has light with darkness?" We had better figure it out and soon.

The Rev. Franklin Graham, son of “America’s Preacher” the Rev. Billy Graham, has slammed the Washington National Cathedral for allowing Muslims to hold their first prayer service there Friday.

On his Facebook account, Graham wrote, “Tomorrow, the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. — one of the most prominent Episcopal churches in America — will host a Muslim prayer service to Allah.

“It’s sad to see a church open its doors to the worship of anything other than the One True God of the Bible who sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to earth to save us from our sins.


“Jesus was clear when He said, “I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).”

Islamic State murderer and propagandist ‘Jihadi John’ has issued a graphic warning of coming slaughter on the streets of the West in the new YouTube video that features the beheading of at least nineteen men, including former American soldier Peter Kassig.

In a short speech delivered as he stands among a group of up to eighteen other terrorists, knives in hand and victims at their feet, the British killer known in the West as ‘Jihadi John’ but known locally as Abu Abdullah al-Britani called President Obama the “dog of Rome” and David Cameron his “puppet”. The video, which even for the Islamic State was unusually gruesome then showed al-Britani giving the kill order to his fellow jihadists, who then used serrated knives to saw off the heads of their captives, said to the Syrian army and air force pilots.


Speaking to the camera, al-Britani said: “To Obama, the dog of Rome, today we are slaughtering the soldiers of Bashar, and tomorrow we will slaughter your soldiers, and with Allah’s permission, we will break this final and last crusade, and the Islamic state will soon, like your puppet David Cameron said, will begin to slaughter your people on your streets”.

His words will not ring hollow to many in the West, who have recently witnessed the murder by Islamist agents on the streets of Western cities of Soldiers such as Drummer Lee Rigby and Corporal Nathan Cirillo.

As the nation waits to hear whether a Missouri police officer will face charges for killing unarmed teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., the FBI is warning law enforcement agencies across the country that the decision “will likely” lead some extremist protesters to threaten and even attack police officers or federal agents.

Peaceful protesters could be caught in the middle, and electrical facilities or water treatment plants could also become targets. In addition, so-called “hacktivists” like the group “Anonymous” could try to launch cyber-attacks against authorities.


“The announcement of the grand jury’s decision … will likely be exploited by some individuals to justify threats and attacks against law enforcement and critical infrastructure,” the FBI says in an intelligence bulletin issued in recent days. “This also poses a threat to those civilians engaged in lawful or otherwise constitutionally protected activities.”

Navy Veteran Points Out Unnerving Government Presence Not Far From Ferguson — and Now He’s Looking for Another Job

Mark Paffrath was leaving work from the Drury Plaza Hotel in Chesterfield, Missouri, Thursday when he noticed something unnerving — about 100 Department of Homeland Security vehicles in the parking garage, Argus News Now reported.

Paffrath snapped a couple of photos and took a short video that he uploaded to his Facebook page:

“Why are all the cop cars here…I wonder if it has anything to do with Ferguson,” his Facebook status read. Paffrath also included #Ferguson #NoJusticeNoPeace, News Now added.

Lawsuits filed Monday against Harvard University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill argue that affirmative action policies should be banned at colleges across the nation.

The federal suits allege Harvard and UNC rely on race-based affirmative action policies that impact admissions of high-achieving white and Asian American students. The Harvard lawsuit also contends that the Ivy League university specifically limits the number of Asian Americans it admits each year.

The Project on Fair Representation, an Alexandria, Virginia-based legal defense fund, said Monday’s filings will be the first in a series of legal challenges against colleges across the country in an effort to ban race-based admission policies outright.


“Allowing this issue to be litigated in case after case will only perpetuate the hostilities that proper consideration of race is designed to avoid,” state the lawsuits, both of which cite “Students for Fair Admissions” as plaintiff, a nonprofit group based in Austin, Texas made up of recently rejected applicants, prospective students and parents. “Racial preferences are a dangerous tool and may only be used as a last resort.”

Both universities defended their admission policies Monday, noting that they are fully compliant with federal law.

President Obama is poised to ignore stark warnings that executive action on immigration would amount to “violating our laws” and would be “very difficult to defend legally.”

Those warnings came not from Republican lawmakers but from Mr. Obama himself.

For years, the president has repeatedly waved aside the demands of Latino activists and Democratic allies who begged him to take action on his own, and he insisted publicly that a decision to shield millions of immigrants from deportation without an act of Congress would amount to nothing less than the dictates of a king, not a president.

Obama’s Book Says Illegals Can Hurt Americans

President Barack Obama may be days away from signing an executive order that would allow up to 5 million illegal immigrants to stay in the country, but he was singing a different tune eight years ago as he prepared for his first presidential campaign.

The Daily Caller reports that Obama sounded a lot like those criticizing his plans now when he wrote his 2006 book, “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.”

“[T]here’s no denying that many blacks share the same anxieties as many whites about the wave of illegal immigration flooding our Southern border — a sense that what’s happening now is fundamentally different from what has gone on before,” Obama wrote. “Not all these fears are irrational.

“The number of immigrants added to the labor force every year is of a magnitude not seen in this country for over a century,” Obama said in the book.

THROWBACK: How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico

George W. Bush isn’t the first Republican president to face a full-blown immigration crisis on the US-Mexican border.

Fifty-three years ago, when newly elected Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America’s southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond.

President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents – less than one-tenth of today’s force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

Although there is little to no record of this operation in Ike’s official papers, one piece of historic evidence indicates how he felt. In 1951, Ike wrote a letter to Sen. William Fulbright (D) of Arkansas. The senator had just proposed that a special commission be created by Congress to examine unethical conduct by government officials who accepted gifts and favors in exchange for special treatment of private individuals.

Republicans seek creative ways to avert a shutdown

Republican leaders have intensified their planning to prevent a government funding showdown, weighing legislative options that would redirect GOP anger at Barack Obama’s expected action on immigration and stave off a political disaster, according to sources involved with the sessions.

Obama plans to use his executive authority to change the enforcement of immigration laws by the end of the year, a move that top Republicans warn could derail efforts to pass a long-term spending bill by a Dec. 11 deadline. Increasingly, some top Republicans believe that it will be difficult to pass the year-long spending package that they originally envisioned, and are refocusing on a shorter term bill.

Speaker John Boehner, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and their top aides and deputies are mulling several options that would give Capitol Hill Republicans the opportunity to vent their frustration with what they view as an unconstitutional power grab by the White House — without jeopardizing the government financing bill.

Fournier has been sounding this alarm for a while, positioning himself as a responsible and disappointed Washington scribe who would like such government experiments in taking over corners of our lives to succeed, but alas, Obamacare’s implementation and the administration’s incompetence have made it nearly impossible to defend this particular experiment. I’m not hating too hard. I appreciate anyone genuinely coming to this realization, though it would have been far more helpful while the passage of Obamacare was underway, and Fournier seems to have come to it good and hard. His words carry weight with people for whom mine would not (though, as I said, maybe they should, since people like me were able to foresee this instead of realizing it after the fact).

“The problem is the central attribute you have to have as any leader, in any walk of life and certainly in government is trust,” Fournier said. “This president has destroyed the credibility of his administration himself and government itself.”


Fournier said the administration’s mistakes, on top of fallout over Obamacare architect Jonathan Gruber’s embarrassing comments, have made Obamacare increasingly difficult to defend.

Obama Just Stepped In A Pile Of Gruber

There are at least two notable issues that emerge from this brief clip of Barack Obama’s latest remarks on the current fire storm surrounding Jonathan Gruber, ObamaCare and the White House.

First, Obama describes Gruber as “some adviser who never worked on our staff.” While that may be technically correct, it would depend on what the definition of “staff” is. While Gruber didn’t take the pay cut that joining Obama’s staff may have cost him, certainly he was specifically sought out and retained by the administration as a key figure in their efforts to pass the Affordable Care Act.

The other issue raised by Obama’s comments is significant and pertains to Gruber, as well.


In 2009, just one month after President Obama took office, the Department of Health and Human Services put out a sole-source solicitation titled “Technical Assistance in Evaluating Options for Health Reform.” The contract would be with Gruber, who the document said was the only person “reasonably available to satisfy agency requirements.”

As the agency put it, “Dr. Gruber developed a proprietary statistically sophisticated micro-simulation model that has the flexibility to ascertain the distribution of changes in health care spending and public and private sector health care costs due to a large variety of changes in health insurance benefit design, public program eligibility criteria, and tax policy.”

Yesterday, in part one of this two part series, I exposed who I believe are the ‘protesters’fer-1.jpg?width=297who are occupying Ferguson Missouri as we all await the delayed decision from the Grand Jury convened to hear the case against Officer Darrin Wilson in the shooting death of thug Mike Brown.

Those responsible for organizing the mob are no doubt hoping for a railroading despite the evidence we know to have been presented.

But these two articles are about the truth and not the fabrications of race baiters.

I ended yesterday’s article with what happens should the Grand Jury NOT indict Officer Wilson and let’s be clear here…that is exactly what Obama and his minions, Holder, Sharpton, the New BlacKKK Panthers and Jesse Jackson want as it would provide them with false relevance as the ‘protesters’ become a lynch mob of rioters, looters and arsonists.

But what happens if this Grand Jury DOES indict Officer Wilson?

To explore and expose this aspect of the story, one must first delve into what such an indictment might entail.

A trial.

The obvious question here is…can Officer Darrin Wilson receive a fair trial in Ferguson?

DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE

No public document gives more prominence to the idea of natural law, nor relies more crucially upon natural law as a premise, than the Declaration of Independence.  To understand why this is so and what it means for American constitutionalism requires reading the text of the Declaration in its political, historical, and philosophical context.

As a political statement, the Declaration was the culmination of a series issued by the several Continental Congresses, the voluntary associations of representatives of thirteen British colonies in North America that spoke for the colonists as a whole.  These documents catalogued grievances against British colonial policy, appealing for the most part to liberties and privileges claimed under the English constitution and the common law.  Declarations and petitions of this sort were themselves part of the English constitutional tradition, from Magna Charta in 1215 through the 1689 Bill of Rights.  The middle section of the Declaration of Independence follows this pattern, detailing complaints against the king and Parliament alleging constitutional violations, unconstitutional statutes, and acts of oppression and war.

Because the Congress in July 1776 had resolved upon independence from Great Britain, however, they thought it inadequate to appeal only to the British constitution.  Instead, they addressed the “opinions of mankind” and made their appeal on the basis of “the laws of nature and of nature’s God.”   Seen as justification for recognition of the political independence of the new United States, natural law appears to ground the law of nations; in the absence of an imperial suzerain or an international league, nature itself must be the standard and world opinion its court.  Little is said at the beginning of the Declaration about this aspect of natural law, other than that it supports the equality of separate states.  But the powers belonging “of right” to “free and independent states” detailed in the Declaration’s conclusion – “to levy war, conclude peace, contract alliances, establish commerce” and unspecified others – should probably be understood as natural in the minds of the Declaration’s signers.  The notion that “international law” arises chiefly from treaties among nations, even the term “international” itself, is a development subsequent to the Declaration; indeed, one commentator has traced the origin of modern thinking about international law to the question among European powers of what constituted formal recognition of American independence.[1]  That the Americans needed legal separation from Britain in order to find allies in the fight against her was clearly recognized at the time and by scholars since.

If the first and final role of natural law in the Declaration is to explain the independence of the United States from the perspective of the law of nations, its second and central function is to ground the theory of God-given rights and man-made government that comprises its most memorable passage, justifying not only independence but revolution:

We hold these truths to be self-evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; that, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed; that whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness.

While the “unalienable rights” said to be self-evidently true are not explicitly called natural rights, the inference is unavoidable: the passage follows immediately after the sentence that explicitly mentions the laws of nature; Jefferson’s earlier draft called the rights “inherent”; and “self-evident truth” is not a bad definition of natural law itself.  Moreover, several of the Declaration’s antecedents did refer more explicitly to natural rights.  George Mason’s Bill of Rights for the Virginia Constitution, published in the Philadelphia papers in mid-June 1776 and almost certainly in Jefferson’s possession when he drafted the Declaration, began, “all men are by nature equally free and independent, and have certain inherent rights.”  The Declaration and Resolves of the First Continental Congress in 1774 had introduced its catalogue of rights as follows: “That the inhabitants of the English colonies in North-America, by the immutable laws of nature, the principles of the English constitution, and the several charters or compacts, have the following RIGHTS” – and rights to life, liberty, and property began the list.  As this last passage makes plain, the Americans generally did not see a practical distinction between natural law and the common law, nor between natural rights and British liberties.  Violations of the English constitution proved the king a tyrant; natural rights indicated what could be justly done by a people thus oppressed.

Much comment has been devoted to precisely what Jefferson had in mind when he defined the first principles of government as he did.  The reference to equality suggested the fundamentally democratic orientation of the founders; while the equality referred to is theoretically pre-political, allowing and maybe even requiring men to consent to inequalities in government, natural equality is established as a basic standard against which government institutions must be measured.  Writing of life, liberty, and “the pursuit of happiness” rather than the familiar “life, liberty, and property” is more precise when grounding rights in human nature, since property was traditionally held to be a conventional rather than a natural right, but it surely puts oligarchs on the defensive.   Many have seen in the famous passage the theory of the state of nature propounded by modern political philosophers such as Thomas Hobbes and especially John Locke, according to which natural rights precipitate a state of war of every man against every man, settled only by a compact creating a government: radically individualistic persons create a radically positive (and thereby suspect) state.[2]  Nor was the revolutionary effect of the Declaration’s second paragraph confined to theory or to the moment of rejecting the king.  As Abraham Lincoln recognized, its significance could be seen in its promise of  future reform: the statement of equality provided “a standard maxim for free society, which should be familiar to all, and revered by all; constantly looked to, constantly labored for, and even though never perfectly attained, constantly approximated, and thereby constantly spreading and deepening its influence, and augmenting the happiness and value of life to all people of all colors everywhere.”[3]  Lincoln appealed to the equality principle to place the Declaration on the side of the abolition of slavery.  Others have argued from the Declaration against sexual inequality and inequality in other forms, not only in America but also among peoples seeking liberation from imperial exploitation.[4]

Still, there is a conservative as well as liberal moment in the natural law doctrine of the Declaration.  Though the phrase “nature’s God” might indicate the deist’s first cause, other invocations of the deity are more orthodox: inalienable rights are said to be an endowment of the Creator, while the signers promise a “firm reliance” on “Divine Providence” and submission to the verdict of the “Supreme Judge.”  Whereas men are acknowledged to have the right to dissolve bad government, they have the duty to establish a better one, and besides, they now claim only to alter, not abolish, their current regime.  Though the phrase “pursuit of happiness” might suggest a government limited to protecting the conditions of what is privately pursued, the Declaration says that principles and forms of government established in the wake of revolution have as their object a people’s “safety and happiness,” a more comprehensive formulation.  Prudence, the classical virtue of statesmanship, is invoked, and the catalogue of grievances suggests that constitutional order has been upset by tyrannical actions, not that new order is desired only for the sake of change.  Though he always remembered the revolutionary intention of the Declaration, speaking of its call to burst the chains of “monkish ignorance and superstition,” Jefferson denied its novelty: The Declaration aimed to capture “the harmonizing sentiments of the day, whether expressed in conversation, in letters, printed essays, or in the elementary books of public right, as Aristotle, Cicero, Locke, Sidney, etc.”[5]  To be sure, Jefferson did not connect “harmonizing sentiments” to natural law, but one finds that usage in the writings of his contemporary, Edmund Burke.[6]

The various meanings of natural law in the Declaration – in relation to world politics or to first principles, as proto-liberal or as conservative – come together if the Declaration is seen as an assertion of political liberty, and if political liberty is seen as a good endorsed by natural law or promised by natural right.  To an age like our own where law is often seen in opposition to politics, and nature seen in opposition to liberty, this suggestion might seem paradoxical.  Political liberty is the right of men to rule themselves or at least to participate in the management of their common life, and today we either take this for granted or see it as allowing arbitrary choice in the rational administration of an interdependent whole.  To those who wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence, however, political liberty and natural law went together: Nature summons man, individually and collectively, to self-government and guides him in the exercise of his power of choice.  The exercise of political liberty leads men to make their own laws and so in that respect can obscure its natural law foundation.  The meaning of the appeal to natural law in the Declaration is that political freedom – as independent statehood on the one hand, and as republicanism on the other – rests on transcendent, rational ground.

Obama’s ambivalence on the issue was even evident in his famed 2006 autobiography, “The Audacity of Hope,” in which he states: “The number of immigrants added to the labor force every year is of a magnitude not seen in this country for over a century. Liar Lies About Lies

Facing growing questions about the BIG Lies used to sell ObamaCare to the American people, Barack Obama protests too much. As numerous videos surfaced of MIT professor and ObamaCare architect Jonathan Gruber talking about the “stupidity” of American voters and the like, Democrats have denied even knowing the man. “No. I did not” mislead the American people, Obama said. “The fact that an adviser who was never on our staff expressed an opinion that I completely disagree with in terms of the voters is not a reflection on the actual process that was run.” Technically, no, Gruber was never on staff, but the government did pay him nearly $400,000 for his services. Obama challenged the media to find more old videos of the bill’s debate, because, he said, “I think it’s fair to say there was not a provision in the health care law that was not extensively debated and was fully transparent – it was a tough debate.” There he goes again. Obama was the chief liar – his if you like your plan, no added debt, no abortion funding, lower premiums promises were transparently false. For him to deny all this now is a bridge too far.

Federal Exchange Opens for Second Time

After two years, the government figured out how to build a website. Maybe. The enrollment period on Healthcare.gov opened for the second time on Saturday and 100,000 people signed up for health insurance. Yet in Washington, the state exchange broke after two hours because it computed tax credits incorrectly. Unlike last year, the website has hit only minor speed bumps so far, with some people forgetting their passwords, according to HHS Secretary Sylvia Burwell. Initially, the Congressional Budget Office estimated 13 million people would sign up this year, but HHS projects less than 10 million. It’s because they “actually thought more people would switch from employer-based care than did,” Burwell said. Burwell assumed people would flock to a government solution. Meanwhile, The New York Times reports, “The Obama administration on Friday unveiled data showing that many Americans with health insurance bought under the Affordable Care Act could face substantial price increases next year – in some cases as much as 20 percent – unless they switch plans.” If you like your plan, you can keep it. More…

The War Over Peter Kassig’s Name

ISIL beheaded aid worker and former Army Ranger Peter Kassig Sunday, the fifth time the group has killed an American and posted a video of the act online. But while ISIL called Kassig by his English name, Peter, the White House kept calling him “Abdul-Rahman,” in an effort to portray ISIL as the murderer of Muslims. “ISIL’s actions represent no faith, least of all the Muslim faith which Abdul-Rahman adopted as his own,” the White House said in a statement. “Today we grieve together, yet we also recall that the indomitable spirit of goodness and perseverance that burned so brightly in Abdul-Rahman Kassig, and which binds humanity together, ultimately is the light that will prevail over the darkness of ISIL.” The media reported Kassig converted to Islam after he was captured by ISIL, perhaps in an attempt to avoid death. Bobby Ross Jr. at Get Religion asked if that conversion was genuine – ISIL thought not. The White House saw the death of “Abdul-Rahman” as an opportunity to frame the debate between the West and ISIL for people in the Middle East. More…

Pelosi Complains of Not Making Time Cover

Time magazine is sexist. At least that’s what Nancy Pelosi implies. “[W]hen [Democrats] won the House – and that was largely an initiative that I started around 2000, to take us to a place where we would win the House – that was a big thing,” Pelosi said. But, she complained, “I was never on the cover of Time magazine, even though I was the first woman to be [speaker]. Isn’t that a curiosity? Republicans win and [John] Boehner is on the front of Time magazine. Mitch McConnell wins and he is on the front to Time magazine. Is there a pattern here? But as a woman, is there a message here? Is there something that we’re missing?” There’s a lot Nancy Pelosi is missing, but in this case, we think she’s just bitter and she’s got to fall back on the same “war on women” rhetoric that failed to deliver votes on Election Day.

Good Policy Held Hostage by Leftist Politics

Have you ever seen a ransom note with its clipped and pasted, mismatched letters making demands and pronouncements as something or someone of value is held hostage? Imagine the playbook of Barack Obama and those Democrats who continue to do his bidding to be written in such type.

Just name any issue confronting America currently – energy, immigration, national security – and you’ll find that the Obama administration is setting the stage for confrontation of the worst sorts. This doubling down is happening even in the face of the beat down the president and his failed leftist policies suffered in the midterm election.

Take Friday’s passage of House legislation to approve the Keystone XL pipeline. Bureaucratic red tape and obstruction began before George W. Bush left office, but now, a bipartisan majority (221 Republicans and 31 Democrats) voted to move the pipeline’s prospects one step closer to existence. The Senate is expected to take a floor vote Tuesday.

Americans want to strengthen domestic energy production and processing, but the president stands in the way. And the message to the White House is clear: Stop stalling!

Obama stays on the leash of environmental radicals whose argument is simple, according to The Washington Post: “Environmentalists say the pipeline is especially harmful because it lowers transportation costs and thus provides more incentive for the development of Alberta’s oil sands.”

You read that correctly. Building a transcontinental pipeline to move 730,000 barrels of crude per day from Alberta, Canada, southward, picking up 100,000 barrels per day in Montana and North Dakota to be refined in Texas, would be bad because it lowers the cost of moving the fuel and incentivizes commerce.

No one said those who hold good things hostage are rational. Clearly, handing America’s energy policy over to those who worship the dirt rather than serving as stewards of the earth is absolutely nuts.

These same environmental leftists will be the first to join the anti-war crowd in chanting daisy-laced peace poems as Americans fight for our interests – among them, energy – in the Middle East, and as we contend with an aggressive Russian government driven by fossil-fuel production.

A majority of Americans, labor unions and a bipartisan voice in Congress see the value of growing domestic energy production and processing with hundreds, even thousands, of high-wage construction jobs and engineering positions that will monitor the pipeline once built. However, those on the Left who oppose such industry and technology are among those who fret about the minimum wage of the kid working the deep fryer at McDonald’s.

But what about that Senate vote Tuesday?

The good policy held hostage by an ecofascist Obama White House will see the light of day only because the wave of Nov. 5 also endangers Louisiana’s Democrat Senator Mary Landrieu. As Landrieu faces an impending loss in December’s runoff, she is suddenly the champion of a bipartisan effort in the Senate to move the pipeline legislation to the floor from its shackled existence in Majority Leader Harry Reid’s office.

Landrieu’s Republican opponent, Rep. Bill Cassidy, hit the bull’s-eye when he opined, “I have to smile when Senator Landrieu says politics are not involved. Clearly Reid did not care about the 40,000 jobs that would be created for families which are struggling but he does care about Senator Landrieu’s job.”

The Keystone XL pipeline legislation is likely to face the veto of a president who has an agenda that doesn’t include the best interests of the American people and our great nation. “I have to constantly push back against this idea that somehow the Keystone pipeline is either this massive jobs bill for the United States or is somehow lowering gas prices,” Obama said.

Whether it’s the unprecedented opportunity for America to have greater control of our energy policy, and therefore greater national security, or any other critical issue in the next few weeks, be prepared. The extortion of the Left will continue as the governing elites not only ignore our Constitution but also that which is best for America.

The Continuing Assault on American Culture

Last week in Maryland, the Montgomery County school board added its voice to the growing chorus singing the tired refrain that America’s long-held cultural traditions can be dismissed if they do not accommodate everyone. By a 7-1 vote, the board eliminatedall religious references such as Christmas, Easter, Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashanah from their 2015-2016 school calendar.

The move was made following a request from the Muslim community that has lobbied for years to include at least one of two major Muslim holidays, Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr, on the school calendar. Saqib Ali, a former Maryland state delegate and co-chair of the Equality for Eid Coalition, bemoaned the decision, saying, “By stripping the names Christmas, Easter, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, they have alienated other communities now, and we are no closer to equality.” Muslim leaders were especially interested in raising the status of Eid al-Adha because the holiday falls on the same day as Yom Kippur and they considered the move an important symbolic step.

No doubt. Yet in a predominantly Judeo-Christian nation, the obvious question must be asked: How far should such accommodation go? What about Shinto holidays such as Setsubun-no-hi or Haru Matsuri? Hindu holidays such as Vasant Panchami or Pitr-Paksha? How about the Buddhistholidays of Vesak or Uposatha?

Once our prevailing culture – the one that created the most dynamic nation in the history of the world – is subsumed in a multi-culti stew, shouldn’t everyone be equally accommodated? And if not, don’t we owe the rest of the world an apology for having the temerity to insist that our prevailing American culture prevail in America?

Certainly the American Left thinks so. In fact, our apologist in chief, a.k.a. Barack Obama, has made a regular habit of apologizing for our nation’s shortcomings. Moreover, he has rendered the concept of American exceptionalism meaningless by comparing it to that of other nations. Such nonsense is reminiscent of the leftist-inspired “every kid gets a trophy” mindset that puts showing up on par with genuine achievement, lest anyone’s feelings get hurt.

That would be the same Barack Obama poised to deal the prevailing American culture its biggest body blow in history, unilaterally legalizing millions of illegal aliens. Illegal aliens are urged by the Left to “celebrate their differences” in lieu of assimilation, respecting our border, language, traditions and culture.

And make no mistake: Public schools and odious school boards like the one in Montgomery County are leading the charge. They stand in solidarity with city councils in Seattle and Minneapolis that scrapped Columbus Day in favor of “Indigenous People’s Day,” part of an effort to remind Americans about “social justice,” and what Seattle Councilmember Kshama Sawant called the “ongoing marginalization, discrimination and poverty that indigenous communities face to this day.”

Again, such cultural assaults are nothing new. In 2012, students at Capital High School (CHS) in Charleston, West Virginia, were forced to stand during the Black National Anthem (Lift Every Voice and Sing), played every morning following the true National Anthem and the Pledge of Allegiance. They were forced to do so until Capital High School principal Clinton Giles relentedfollowing pressure from parents. One is left to wonder whether anyone ever challenged the rank separatism a different national anthem for black children represents.

Not likely. As with every assault on America’s prevailing culture, those who dare to object are routinely dismissed as bigots, racists, nativists, etc. by those who believe the only remaining cultural imperative is political correctness.

That political correctness has reached absurd levels in our nation’s schools. In 2013, Hunter Spanjer, a three-year-old deaf boy in Lincoln, Nebraska, was bullied by school officials to change his name, because the Sign Exact English (S.E.E.) for “Hunter” looks like a gun, violating the school’s zero-tolerance policy. Hunter was joined by seven-year-old Josh Welch, a Baltimore student suspended for chewing a Pop Tart into the shape of a pistol, representing yet another affront to the leftist doyens who have willingly joined the ranks of their fellow leftists, all of whom are determined to “transform the United States of America” into a socialist utopia.

It is a socialist utopia that requires dismantling our prevailing culture, brick by brick. One that increasingly characterizes the 80% of Americans who believe Judeo-Christian values constitute the foundations of American culture as out of touch at best, or at worst, as our illustrious president once put it, “bitter clingers” who “cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

“It is about equity,” said Montgomery County school board member Rebecca Smondrowski, who introduced the resolution to eliminate the holiday calendar references. “I made the motion because, if we are closing for operational reasons, then there should be no need to make reference to religion. That is the most equitable solution that I could see while recognizing that we need to be seriously addressing the criteria for how these things are decided in the future.”

Bet your life those criteria won’t include any deference for our prevailing Judeo-Christian culture. As far as the Left is concerned, such deference requires an offsetting accommodation – or an abject apology.

UAE Designates American Muslim Groups – CAIR & MAS – as Terrorist Organizations

Why hasn’t the U.S. done the same? Will Fox News and other media outlets give CAIR a platform now that they are designated terrorists alongside al Qaeda, Boko Haram, Hizbollah, ISIS and CAIR’s parent organization the Muslim Brotherhood? The United Arab Emirates has officially designated 83 groups as terrorist organizations, including two based in the U.S., the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Muslim American Society.

UAE’s cabinet made the announcement following a meeting on Saturday.

Other groups designated as terrorists include al-Qaida, al Nusra, Boko Haram and the Muslim Brotherhood.

CAIR’s designation is interesting given its high profile here in the U.S.

The group was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land Foundation case in 2007. Leaders of the Holy Land Foundation were found guilty of aiding Hamas, which the U.S. has designated as a terrorist organization.

Starting in 2008, the FBI adopted a strict policy against dealing with CAIR in its investigations. Last year, the Department of Justice inspector general issued a report showing that the FBI had in some instances failed to maintain that arms-length requirement.

According to Reuters, which reported on UAE’s new terrorist designations, the country is at odds with Qatar over the latter’s relationship with Islamist groups, including the Muslim Brotherhood.

In the Holy Land foundation case, CAIR was listed as a member of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee.

The Muslim American Society (MAS), founded in 1993, also has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. A 2004 Chicago Tribune article laid out how MAS was created in secret by U.S. Muslim Brotherhood leaders who feared attention being drawn to some of their members who were supportive of Hamas.
