{truthrevolt.org} ~ Vice President Mike Pence gave an epic speech at the Knesset this week. His was the most powerful embrace of Zionism and the Jewish people any foreign leader has ever presented. Pence’s fluency in Jewish history, and his comprehension of the centrality of the both the Bible and the Land of Israel in the vast flow of that history in far-flung-exile communities across time and space was spellbinding. He touched the hearts of his audience, causing knots in the throats of most of the people sitting in the Knesset on Monday afternoon.

Pence’s speech was rendered poignant and the friendship he bore became tinged with urgency with the publication, the very next day, of the latest Pew Center survey on American views of Israel.

Speaking in the name of the American people he represents, Pence said on Monday: “The friendship between our people has never been deeper.”

And when it comes to the Republican voters who elected President Donald Trump and Vice President Pence a year and two months ago, Pence is certainly correct. But the Pew data showed that on Israel, as on so many other issues, the cleavage between Republicans and Democrats is vast and unbridgeable.

Most of the coverage of the Pew survey focused reasonably on its main finding. The good news is that overall American support for Israel over the Palestinians remains more or less constant, and overwhelming. Forty-six percent of Americans support Israel over the Palestinians while a mere 16% of Americans support the Palestinians against Israel. The numbers haven’t changed much since polling began in 1978.

But then the news becomes more fraught. The disparity between Republican support for Israel and Democratic support for Israel has never been greater. Whereas 79% of Republicans support Israel over the Palestinians, only 27% of Democrats do. Moreover, the further one goes to the Left among Democratic voters, the more anti-Israel the respondents become. Liberal Democrats are now nearly twice as likely to support the Palestinians over Israel as they are to support Israel over the Palestinians. Thirty-five percent of liberal Democrats support the Palestinians against Israel. A mere 19% support Israel more than the Palestinians.

Conservative and moderate Democrats still support Israel far more than they support the Palestinians with 35% of moderate and conservative Democrats supporting Israel over the Palestinians, and 17% supporting the Palestinians more than Israel. But the level of support for Israel among this demographic has dropped precipitously in the last year and a half. In the previous survey, which took place in April 2016, support for Israel was 53%, or 19 points higher.

In other words, the last year and a half has seen a precipitous drop in Democratic support for Israel even as Republican support for Israel has grown ever higher.

For Israel’s leaders, as distressing as these numbers are, they don’t give an indication of how Israel should relate to the vast disparities in US support for Israel as they plot policies for the future.

The survey does provide that answer though. The last question in the survey asked respondents about the viability of the so-called two-state solution.

They were asked, “Can a way be found for Israel and an independent Palestinian state to coexist peacefully or not?”

The answers were notable. While among the general population, faith in the two-state solution runs 49% to 39%, that support is indirectly proportionate to respondents’ support for Israel. The more they support Israel, the less they believe in the two-state solution.

Americans who support the Palestinians more than they support Israel, believe in the viability of the two-state solution runs 64% to 28%. Americans who support Israel more than the Palestinians view the two-state solution as nonviable by a margin of 40% to 51%.

On the face of things, this seems like an anomaly. For a generation, three successive administrations have insisted not only that the two-state solution is the only path to peace and security for Israel and the Palestinians. Presidents liar-Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack liar-nObama all insisted that Israel’s very survival as a Jewish state is contingent on it surrendering land it has held for 50 years to the PLO. Americans have been told that the only way to truly care about Israel is to support the establishment of a Palestinian state in Gaza, Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem.

And here we see that the US public has reached the opposite conclusions. Americans who oppose Israel support the establishment of a Palestinian state along the lines set out by liar-Clinton, Bush and liar-nObama. Americans who support Israel view such a prospect as impossible.

What explains this disparity? Two data points in the survey point to a reasonable explanation.

According to the survey, the greatest leap in Republican support for Israel occurred since 2001. In the past 17 years, Republican support for Israel leaped from 50% to 79%.

On the Democratic side, an opposite trend occurred. Since 2001, Democratic support for Israel has dropped from 38% to 27%.

Two events occurred in 2001 that set the parties on disparate paths: the September 11 attacks and the disputed results of the 2000 presidential race between scum-Al Gore and Bush.

The September 11 attacks caused Republican voters to study the Middle East, including Israel, more closely than they ever had before. And the more familiar they became with Islamism, jihad and the other pathologies of the Arab world, the more supportive of Israel they became. The fact that the Palestinians rejected peace at the Camp David summit in July 2000 and that by the time the September 11 attacks occurred they were engaged in the largest terrorist onslaught against Israel in history, reinforced the sense among Republicans that Israel is the US’s closest ally in the war on Islamic terrorism.

On the other hand, the Democrats’ rejection of the legitimacy of the 2000 election results set the party on a course of radicalization. The best indication of the Democrats’ radicalization on Israel came with the precipitous downfall of senator Joseph Lieberman.

Lieberman was a liberal hawk, an ardent supporter of Israel and a proud Jew. In 2000 his positions had sufficient traction among Democratic voters to cause scum-Gore to select him as his running mate in the presidential election.

Just six years later, a transformed Democratic party rejected Lieberman when he ran for reelection to his senate seat in the Democratic primary in Connecticut. His challenger, Ned Lamont, defeated Lieberman after running a campaign laced with antisemitism and anti-Zionism. Lieberman’s longtime ally, then-senator from New York liar-  Hillary Clinton, who was looking forward to the 2008 presidential race, refused to support him.

Today Democratic presidential hopefuls like New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker have discarded their previous support for Israel to satisfy their party’s increasingly radical, anti-Israel base.

The Democrats’ move to the Left has caused them to ascribe increasingly to identity politics as the basis for policy-making. Identity politics dictate a pecking order of victims. The greater a group’s status as victim, the more the Democrats support it. In this taxonomy, Israel has been determined to be an oppressor, and the Palestinians are defined as the victims.

The problem with identity politics, at least insofar as Israel is concerned, is that there is no basis in fact for the determination that Israel is the bad guy and the Palestinians are the good guys. To the contrary. As the steep rise in Republican support over the past 17 years demonstrates, the more you know, the greater the likelihood that you will support Israel.

Rather than being a fact-based conclusion, the determination that Israel is bad and the Palestinians are good is an ideological dictate. And this presents Israel with an intractable problem as far as Democrats are concerned.

Israel cannot reason Democrats out of an anti-Israel position that they weren’t reasoned into. Israel has no ability whatsoever to convince the Democrats to rethink their animosity, when they never thought about it to begin with. They simply accepted the dictates of their political and ideological camp.

This brings us back to Pence, and the Trump administration’s extraordinary, voter-supported friendship for Israel and what it means for Israel today, as the prospect of an impossibly hostile Democratic administration in as little as three years lurks in the corner.

The most significant “news” that Pence announced in his address was Trump’s determination to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem by the end of 2019. This is important because, given the hostility of the Democrats, there is every reason to believe that if a Democratic administration takes power in 2021, Trump’s decision to move the embassy will be canceled if it hasn’t already happened.

Just as this is the time for the US to move its embassy to Israel’s capital, now is also the time for Israel to ditch the failed two-state model before it is too late.

Israel will never have a better opportunity than it has today to convince an American administration to abandon the anti-Israel narrative at the foundation of the two-state formula. That narrative, which asserts that there is no peace because there is no Palestinian state, places the blame for the absence of peace between the Palestinians and Israel on Israel alone.

Today there is an administration that is open to hearing an alternative narrative that portrays Israel properly as the good guy, and the Palestinians as the hopelessly intransigent foe that they have always been.

Now is the time for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his colleagues in the government to be speaking this plain truth in one voice. And now is the time for them to decide on, explain and implement a policy based on Israel’s rights and interests that will secure Israel’s strategic viability and position vis-à-vis the Palestinians for years to come. Such a policy, which will involve applying Israeli law over large swaths of Judea and Samaria, is clear, easy to explain and will successfully ensure the civil rights of Jews and Arabs alike for generations.

No, Israel’s efforts to explain itself will not crack through the closed intellectual circle of identity politics and partisanship. But that is why Israel needs to act now so that the new policy is explained and implemented along the same timetable as the US Embassy moves to Jerusalem.

By the time the 2020 US election campaign begin, Israel should have already determined and implemented its new policy. As Pence demonstrated so eloquently at the Knesset this week, Israel has a friend the likes of which it has never seen in the White House today. And if President Trump is not president in January 2021, Israel will face an administration that will make us miss liar-nObama.

Pence and Pew showed us what we have and what awaits us. Now is the time for Israel to act.

Republicans in Congress and the Trump administration failed to fulfill their commitment to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in 201... but they did succeed in repealing the tax penalties enforcing the law’s individual mandate, starting in 2019. The GOP still might try again to fully repeal and replace the ACA in 2018, perhaps with a modified version of the Graham-Cassidy legislation. However, with Republicans now down to a 51-seat majority in the Senate and some House and Senate members facing difficult mid-term elections this November, it will be even more challenging to get a sweeping rollback of the ACA through Congress in 2018 than it was in 2017. Republicans would have a better chance of getting something passed if they lowered their sights and used the possibility of enacting bipartisan market stabilization legislation to achieve more limited objectives. Senator RINO-Susan Collins (R-ME) and others are pressing GOP leaders to pass the compromise plan sponsored by Senators Lamar Alexander (R-TN) and Patty Murray (D-WA) early this year, along with additional reinsurance funding. Oscar-nominated English actor Daniel Kaluuya, in an interview with W magazine, opined that racism is more pronounced in America than in Britain. So happy to learn this and can't wait for his upcoming lecture.

Well, these mega-pundits might as well go three for three so far in 2018. Hosting the Golden Globes ceremony earlier this month, Seth Meyers caricatured President Trump as a xenophobe and lampooned him for alienating North Korea. A few weeks later, at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, host Kristen Bell humorlessly jabbed first lady Melania Trump for failing in her mission to end cyberbullying. They must measure up to the Trump-bashing standards of 2017's Emmy Awards, where, following the lead of smarmy host Stephen Colbert, the actors launched merciless volleys against the president, including one from Lily Tomlin: "And in 2017, we still refuse to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot."

I've attended many award ceremonies, and apart from politically related ones, I've rarely heard speakers wax political, not only because the events are nonpolitical but because they don't want to needlessly offend those with different views.

It's apparent that Hollywood actors don't have these concerns and therefore exercise no restraint. That they so openly spout off about politics shows they have no fear of offending their like-minded colleagues and couldn't care less about alienating anyone in the viewing audience.

A few examples. "Grey's Anatomy" star Ellen Pompeo tweeted, "News flash... I don't want trump supporters for fans Einstein." Olivia Wilde, starring in "1984" on Broadway, tweeted, "Trumpy Trolls defending racism as free speech and threatening to boycott my movies, PLEASE F---ING DO." Don Cheadle, after tweet-slamming someone for being "woefully uninformed and egregiously bereft of empathy and insight," smugly followed up with this: "If I lose fans over this, they weren't real fans. And I'm only bitter about what's happening to our country. You good with all this? Why?" Michael Shannon, while promoting his movie "Nocturnal Animals," said: "This country's filled with ignorant jackasses. The big red dildo running through the middle of our country needs to be annexed to be its own country of moronic a--holes. You can call it the United States of Moronic F---ing A--holes." He also said, "If you're voting for Trump, it's time for the urn." And last year, Meryl Streep blasted Trump, without mentioning his name, as a powerful bully whose "violence incites violence."

I've sometimes wondered what makes Hollywood so ideologically unimaginative. Is there some common DNA strain among film industry players that makes them liberal? Were most of those who have grown up to become part of that industry raised by leftist parents? Do actors new to Hollywood arrive as politically blank slates and become instantly converted? Are they shamed into toeing the party line?

Of course, there are Hollywood conservatives, and I'm proud to call some of them my friends, but we all know they are a fractional exception; at least, those willing to publicly admit it are scarce.

I can't think of a group of people more cloistered, more isolated from dissenting viewpoints. How can any group of people -- other than political organizations, whose members join specifically to support the particular cause -- think so uniformly?

They aren't just monolithic; they possess the self-certainty of religious cultists, who are contemptuous of those who disagree, thinking of them as lesser beings woefully ignorant and irredeemably immoral.

You've surely witnessed their judgmentalism, their preachiness, their superiority, their ontological certitude. They obviously haven't a single electron of doubt about their own righteousness and our unrighteousness.

But if they are correct in their worldview and we flyover denizens are as depraved as they think, what kind of supernatural coincidence could have caused all of them to assemble in one place and work in one industry? Is there something about the performing arts that draws moral paragons? As there can be no divine sovereignty in the absence of God, maybe it's rather that thespianism constitutes the most advanced form of Darwinian refinement. Excuse us for being unaware that evolutionary perfection resulted in astonishing close-mindedness.

It's noteworthy that their rejection of God doesn't deter them from mounting their secular pulpits to sermonize. Perhaps it's a blessing that they consider us such despicably lost causes that they merely scold us rather than try to proselytize us.

Are you curious as to whether any of them ever self-reflect or contemplate why, if they're such wonderfully kind and compassionate people, they are so filled with rage, rudeness, meanness and smug incivility?

Isn't it ironic that these actors engage in political commentary to demonstrate their intellectual gravitas but, in the very process, instead display that they are malleable sheep, pawns of the most pernicious sort of groupthink, people who are intellectually incurious and shallow and whose free will has been hijacked by the most unsophisticated form of industry-coerced mind control?

Senate Democrats today blocked a vote on a pro-life Senate bill to ban late-term abortions — a bill that would save as many as 18,000 unborn babies form abortions each and every year.

The Senate voted today on whether to stop the Democrats’ filibuster of the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation that would ban abortions after 20 weeks — as neither Congress nor state legislatures can vote to ban all abortions under Roe v. Wade. The bill highlights how unborn babies feel intense pain when they are killed in abortions. Fifty-one senators (forty-eight Republicans and three Democrats) voted to take the bill up for debate, but 60 votes were required.

Unfortunately, because Republicans don’t have 60 votes in the chamber to overcome the filibuster, Democrats successfully stopped the bill. The vote came after the White House indicated President Donald Trump would sign the bill into law.

Leading pro-life advocates blasted Democrats for preventing passage of the late-term abortion ban.

“Americans should be outraged that pro-abortion Senate Democrats refuse to protect unborn babies who can feel pain. An overwhelming majority of Americans support this bill, including 56% of Democrats and 56% of those who identify as ‘pro-choice’,” said Carol Tobias, president of National Right to Life. Leading figure in the Danish government claims that Muslims are violent and commit terror.

The Danish prime minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (Venstre, Liberal Conservative) has put the controversial Inger Støjberg (Venstre) in charge of Denmark’s migration policy. Inger Støjberg is known for her controversial view on Islam – she has the infamous Mohammed cartoon on her laptop background – and Muslim immigration.

Inger Støjberg recently claimed that followers of Islam are violent, use weapons as part of their religious cause and commit terror. Her statement was made in connection with the new movie The Book of Mormon, that makes fun of people believing in the Christian God. Støjberg criticises artist for not daring to make fun of Islam.

“In the real world it is the followers of what they themselves call ‘the religion of peace’, Islam, who call to arms, and use violence and terror,” she writes in an article on BT.

According to Inger Støjberg, who has been Minister of Migragtion and Integration since 2015, the West has already lost the battle of free speech. Nobody dares to make fun of Islam, just like The Book of Mormon makes fun of another religion:

{townhall.com} ~ One reason Democrats seem so fixated on importing illegal immigrants and allowing their children to stay and become citizens may be the exodus from high-tax and traditionally Democratic states.

Anecdotal evidence is usually not helpful in determining trends, but when stories begin to accumulate and sound the same attention must be paid.

Two friends of mine, who are longtime California residents, recently decided to move from that highly taxed state to states with lower taxes. As much as they love California, they tell me, they can no longer afford to live there.

United Van Lines' National Movers Study has for more than 40 years tracked which states people are moving to and from. This should -- and probably has -- received attention from Democrats.

The Washington Free Beacon has analyzed the data and found people are leaving Illinois, New Jersey where the new Democratic governor has promised to raise taxes and New York, among other high-tax states. Sixty-three percent of outbound moves were from Illinois and New Jersey. New York (61 percent), Connecticut (57 percent) and Massachusetts (56 percent) rounded out the top five. It is hardly coincidental that these states are mostly controlled by Democrats. Illinois, with its Republican governor, is the lone exception, though the state remains heavily blue.

California's top marginal income tax rate is 13.3 percent, the highest state income tax rate in the country, according to the National Tax Foundation. The state also ranks highest nationally in its sales tax of 7.25 percent. Anyone filling up at a gas station in California sees some of the highest prices per gallon in the country, thanks mainly to added taxes.

Apparently fearing an exodus of more high-income earners, Kevin de Leon, the state Senate's president pro tempore, introduced a bill that would allow residents to write-off state taxes on their federal returns as a charitable donation. This takes Democrats' worship of government to a new level. Officials in the Trump administration have said they are doubtful such a bill, should it become law, will go down well with the Internal Revenue Service.

The left is so imprisoned by its own ideology -- worshipping government as god -- that it refuses to see what lower taxes are doing at the national level. From the roaring stock market, to the decrease in unemployment, to corporations offering bonuses and wage increases to their employees, to companies like Apple announcing plans to bring jobs and revenue and taxes back to America, one might think Democrats would jump on the bandwagon and try to claim some credit.

If Democrats think they can replace American citizens who are leaving some of these high-tax states with "Dreamers" and other undocumented people, they might want to consider a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll conducted just prior to the government "shutdown."

As reported by The Washington Times, while "Americans strongly support granting citizenship rights to illegal immigrant Dreamers ... they also back Mr. Trump's three demands for a border wall, limits to the chain of family migration and an end to the Diversity Visa Lottery. Most striking of all is the public's demand for lower overall legal immigration -- a position that has little traction on Capitol Hill but one that is overwhelmingly popular across the country."

As some have been saying, they want their country back and they have proved it by their support of Donald Trump and their rejection of high-tax states by leaving for more economically friendly ones.

{townhall.com} ~During the past three weeks, Congress passed and President Donald Trump signed into law vast new powers for the NSA and the FBI to spy on innocent Americans and selectively to pass on to law enforcement the fruits of that spying.

Those fruits can now lawfully include all fiber-optic data transmitted to or in the United States, such as digital recordings of all landline and mobile telephone calls and copies in real time of all text messages and emails and banking, medical and legal records electronically stored or transmitted.

All this bulk surveillance had come about because the National Security Agency convinced federal judges meeting in secret that they should authorize it. Now Congress and the president have made it the law of the land.

This enactment came about notwithstanding the guarantee of the right to privacy -- the right to be left alone -- articulated in the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution and elsewhere. Though the surveillance expansion passed the Senate by just one vote, it apparently marks a public policy determination that the Constitution can be ignored or evaded by majority consent whenever it poses an obstacle to the government's purposes.

The language of the Fourth Amendment is an intentional obstacle to the government in deference to human dignity and personal liberty. It reads: "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

This specific language was expressly written to prevent the bulk suspicionless surveillance that the British government had used against the colonists. British courts in London issued general warrants to British soldiers in America, authorizing them to search wherever they wished and seize whatever they found. These warrants were not based on probable cause, and they did not describe the place to be searched or the people or things to be seized.

The Colonial reaction to the British use of general warrants was to take up arms and fight the American Revolution.

Last week, Congress and the president chose to ignore our history and the human values underlying the right to privacy. Those values recognize that the individual pursuit of happiness is best actualized in an atmosphere free from the government's prying eyes. Stated differently, the authors and ratifiers of the Fourth Amendment recognized that a person is not fully happy when being watched all the time by the government.

Yet the constitutional values and timeless lessons of history were not only rejected by Congress but also rejected in ignorance, and the ignorance was knowingly facilitated by the members of the House Intelligence Committee.

Here is the back story.

The recent behavior of the leadership of the House Intelligence Committee constitutes incompetence at best and misconduct in office at worst. The leadership sat on knowledge of NSA and FBI surveillance abuses that some committee members have characterized as "career-ending," "jaw-dropping" and "KGB-like," while both houses of Congress -- ignorant of what their 22 House Intelligence Committee colleagues knew -- voted to expand NSA and FBI surveillance authorities.

Stated differently, the 22 members of the committee knowingly kept from their 500 or so congressional colleagues incendiary information that, had it been revealed in a timely manner, would certainly have affected the outcome of the vote -- particularly in the Senate, where a switch of just one vote would have prevented passage of this expansion of bulk surveillance authorization.

Why were all members of Congress but the 22 on this committee kept in the dark about NSA and FBI lawlessness? Why didn't the committee reveal to Congress what it claims is too shocking to discuss publicly before Congress voted on surveillance expansion? Where is the outrage that this information was known to a few in the House and kept from the remainder of Congress while it ignorantly voted to assault the right to privacy?

The new law places too much power in the hands of folks who even the drafters of it have now acknowledged are inherently unworthy of this trust. I argued last week that House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes was up to something when he publicly attacked the trustworthiness of the NSA and FBI folks whose secret powers he later inexplicably voted to expand. Now we know what he was talking about.

What can be done about this?

The House Intelligence Committee should publicly reveal the contents of its four-page report that summarizes the NSA and FBI abuses. If that fails, a courageous member of the committee should go to the floor of the House -- as Sen. Dianne Fein-stein once took the CIA torture report to the floor of the Senate -- and reveal not just the four-page report but also the underlying data upon which the report is based. Members of Congress enjoy full immunity for anything said on the House or Senate floor, yet personal courage is often in short supply.

But there is a bigger picture here than House Intelligence Committee members sitting on valuable intelligence and keeping it from their colleagues. The American people are entitled to know how the government in whose hands we have reposed the Constitution for safekeeping has used and abused the powers we have given to it. The American people are also entitled to know who abused power and who knew about it and remained silent.

Does the government work for us, or do we work for the government? In theory, of course, the government works for us. In practice, it treats us as children. Why do we accept this from a government to which we have consented? Democracy dies in darkness. So does personal freedom.

Christianity Is Alive and Well in America

As science and technology promise to answer questions about our existence, we’re supposedly moving in droves away from a Bible that’s considered a mere collection of stories instead of the word of God, and walking away from churches that simply can’t inspire us to believe in something greater than ourselves. Ultimately, they say, we’ll become a nation of agnostics and atheists. Secularism is the future.

          But such doom and gloom may be premature. As Glenn Stanton writes in The Federalist, “The Baylor Institute for Studies of Religion found … that the percentage of church-attending Americans relative to overall population is more than four times greater today than it was in 1776. The number of attendees has continued to rise each and every decade over our nation’s history right up until the present day.”
          Didn’t see that one coming? Such studies seem to fly in the face of what everyone else is saying. Even some Christian leaders bemoan the state of their faith as seemingly fewer people show up for Sunday services and as people continue to devour a popular culture promoting values antithetical to Christianity. But there’s more to the problem than meets the eye.
          One of the theories as to why some people are leaving organized religion, or becoming less religious, is known as the secularization thesis. This is the idea that people as a whole are becoming more secular in the industrialized world.
          Yet despite the march of science and technology, various studies show that Americans are not abandoning religion and running toward secularism as quickly as people are in many European countries. In fact, if we’re abandoning anything at all it might be the very churches embracing secularism instead of offering time-honored traditions and biblical teachings.
          Stanton suggests it’s “extremely likely that if your church teaches the Bible with seriousness, calls its people to real discipleship, and encourages daily intimacy with God, it has multiple services to handle the coming crowds.”
          It’s no wonder that churches turning away from Christianity and toward progressivism are losing congregants. They’re more likely to recognize same-sex marriage, support abortion, accept transgenderism and advocate open borders.
          Most people go to church for guidance, for answers, or for some hope that there are still some bedrock beliefs to hold onto in an “if it feels good, do it” world. As a result, it shouldn’t be surprising that evangelical churches are growing, while those on the Left are losing members.
          Looking at the data more carefully shows that those who are strongly religious are just as devoted to their faith as ever before — indeed even more so. A significant number of those leaving Christianity weren’t very committed to begin with. In other words, there’s no crisis in faith across the country. The believers are still devout, while others find something else to do on Sunday.
          Mainline Protestant churches are typically more progressive, but they aren’t alone in facing a numbers crisis. In 2014, a joint effort of the Public Religion Research Institute and the Religion News Service produced a report showing how American Catholics are becoming increasingly progressive.
          The study revealed that a slight majority of all Catholics support marriage “equality,” LGBT protections, abortion “rights,” and citizenship for illegal immigrants. While the Vatican itself may be opposed to abortion, its leadership is increasingly open to at least discussing the others. So that’s why the pews are empty.
          Nearly half of conservative Catholics don’t recognize the church they grew up in. Theirs isn’t a rejection of the Bible or the Vatican, but of secularism and progressivism. Again, those leaving our churches are either not that religious anyway, or they’re growing weary of hearing Democrat Party talking points during Sunday services.
          But just how much does politics have to do with faith. A study  conducted last year by Indiana University and Harvard found, “The downward trend in average American religiousness may then be less the result of a society-wide fading of the importance of religion to people’s lives — which we would expect on the basis of the secularization thesis — and more a function of the politicization of American religion in the late 1980s following the rise of the Christian Right.”
          This issue shouldn’t be viewed only through the lens of Left and Right, or Democrat and Republican. The degree to which politics plays into our society and religion is still unclear. The Pew Research Center discovered  that 45% of people who say religion is “very important” are Republicans, while only 38% of Democrats said the same. This seems to support the common belief that Republicans are more religious or spiritual than Democrats. However, 46% of those who say religion is “not at all important” are Republicans, according to the same study.
          The Pew study does include some numbers showing a decline in religious practices in various demographic categories, but it concludes: “At the same time, the vast majority of Americans (77% of all adults) continue to identify with some religious faith. And this religiously affiliated population — comprising a wide variety of Protestants as well as Catholics, Jews, Mormons, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus and adherents of other faith traditions — is, on the whole, just as religiously committed today as when the study was first conducted in 2007. Fully two-thirds of religiously affiliated adults say they pray every day.”
          If nothing else, these studies seem to give us a glimmer of hope in a time when we’re being told that the roof is caving in. Perhaps, unlike in Europe, America still has a long way to go before secularism is the dominant religion.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz, these bonuses are chump change. “Frankly, if you look at the bonuses, which I haven’t heard of a corporate bonus more than $1,000 so far — which by the way is taxed, so it’s not $1,000,” Schultz said. “And then you spread $1,000 over the course of a year — to think of about how much that is — of course they get it all at once. But I’m not sure that $1,000 — which is taxed, taxable — goes very far for almost anyone.” Well then.
          Schultz is only taking cues from Nancy Pulosi, who warned of “Armageddon” before tax reform was passed and dismissed it as “pathetic” “crumbs” afterward. Pulosi too doubled down, saying Thursday that workers are getting a “crumb” while corporate shareholders enjoy a “bonanza.” She explained, “Whatever they’re doing, it’s nice, it’s cute, [but] it’s not commensurate with what advantage they have in the tax bill, and it’s not fair to the American worker.” In fact, she insisted, “This tax cut for corporate America is theft.”
          In other words, workers won’t benefit all that much but corporate “fat cats” will. A couple of things. Yes, Ms. Schultz, bonuses are taxable, but at the new, lower (Republican) rate. And “fat cats” like Schultz and Pulosi may not notice $1,000, but the rest of us workers will. Indeed, the pair and their party sang a far different tune when they temporarily cut the payroll tax by … $1,000 a year on average. Furthermore, tax cuts are not, as Democrats imply, a zero-sum game, nor is it in any way “theft” to let people and businesses keep more of their money. And Schultz may not be aware, but some bonuses are $2,000 or $2,500. You know, “crumbs.”

 RINO-Graham’s claim to fame is: 1) having twice negotiated a voluntary surrender for the GOP on immigration; and 2) winning 0.00 percent of the vote when he ran for president two years ago.

You could run for president on the platform that we should kill babies and eat them, and you’d get more votes than  RINO-Lindsey Graham. Who designated this most remote of back-benchers, thoroughly rejected by the American people, as the principal negotiator on Trump’s central campaign promise?

 RINO-Graham’s thought process seems to be: We had an election, I ran for president; literally no one voted for me, so my views should prevail over the guy who won an Electoral College landslide.

How about getting Dennis Kucinich in there? Has anyone asked Martin O’Malley for help in the “DACA” negotiations?

To a rapturous media, RINO-Graham has been peddling the lie that President Trump blew up a beautiful bipartisan deal on immigration. It wasn’t “bipartisan,” except in the sense of being “angrily rejected by the voters.”

It’s the same deal that has gone down in flames at least twice before. It’s the same deal that has already destroyed the careers of Sens. RINO-John McCain, Marco Rubio,  RINO-Jeff Flake, Bob Corker, Kelly Ayotte, Mark Kirk and Gov. Jeb! Bush.

It’s the same deal President Bush tried to push through Congress in 2006 — with RINO-Graham’s support! — leading directly to the Republican wipeout in the midterm elections later that year. Innumerable polls showed that the public hated Bush’s proposed amnesty even more than it hated the Iraq War.

It’s the same deal that voters repudiated for approximately the 87th time when they made Donald Trump president and — again — gave RINO-Lindsey Graham zero votes.

Notwithstanding the media’s phony polls showing 98.6 percent of voters wildly enthusiastic about amnesty for “Dreamers” — or “Nightmares,” as radio host Howie Carr calls them — every time the public gets its hands on an actual ballot, it votes for: less immigration, punishing employers who hire illegals, no government services for illegals, no driver’s licenses for illegals, no amnesty ever, English-only and Donald Trump.

What the media call a “bipartisan deal” didn’t even meet the basic definition of a “deal.”

For at least a decade now, the argument for amnestying the Nightmares has been: Screw the parents. THEY SUCK! They were the lawbreakers … but don’t blame the innocent children (single typewriter key) brought-here-through-no-fault-of-their-own.

Then we get to see the big bipartisan deal, and it’s: We amnesty the kids — but also the parents! Not only is this not meeting Trump halfway, it’s also doubling the distance.

It’s like negotiating in the Kasbah:

Democrats: We demand $30!

Republicans: We’ll give you $10.

Democrats: OK, $200.

 RINO-Lindsey Graham: DEAL!

How did an existential issue for the Republican Party get assigned to the single worst person to negotiate it?

It would be as if during Bush’s presidency, anti-war Republican Chuck Hagel had anointed himself spokesman for the GOP on the Iraq War. Republicans would have gone nuts! They would have been screaming at the media, the Democrats and the president: DO NOT TALK TO CHUCK HAGEL!

The fact that Senate Republicans have not done this in the case of RINO-Graham and immigration makes me think the fix is in. If we had a party that was serious, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and the rest of the Senate GOP would say, “That’s great that you and RINO-Jeff Flake have been having meetings, RINO-Lindsey, but you don’t speak for us.”

It’s hard to avoid the impression that other Republicans are saying, God bless RINO-Lindsey. There, but for the grace of God, go I — because this is what our paymasters want. The Business Round table doesn’t care what Republicans have to do to fool the base, provided: Another year goes by, the Nightmares are still here, and we haven’t sealed the border.

Either Mitch McConnell is very, very stupid or the reason he’s not pulling RINO-Graham is precisely because he keeps missing shots.

Let’s see, what’s the stupidest way we could do this? Every single day of Trump’s campaign he promised everyone a wall and mass deportations. What if we DON’T build a wall, but take the person who got zero votes, was the earliest and most vociferous in attacking Trump — and involve him centrally in the negotiations on immigration?

Recall that McConnell spent $8 million to defeat Rep. Mo Brooks in the Alabama Senate Republican primary last August, leading to Trump’s humiliating defeat in the reddest state in the Union in December. There’s nothing embarrassing about Brooks. But he’s with Trump on immigration, so he had to be stopped.

Voters get lip service on “securing the border” at the same time that Republicans are letting RINO-Graham negotiate amnesty. The complicit senators hide in their offices and practice looking shocked. No, RINO-Lindsey! That’s not what we wanted at all! … Oh well, what are you going to do? Let’s just get those illegals their permanent residence cards and move on to more tax cuts for Wall Street.

We don’t want to send a message that is contrary to our laws.” At the time, liar-Hillary Clinton was ramping up her campaign for president and this was her immigration “sell” to independent voters. Not that she really meant it.           Just who are these euphemistically named future Democrats?           In any case, they may well get some help from the unlikeliest of sources: Donald Trump. The president laid some of the groundwork Thursday for a grand bargain on immigration reform that features a way for 1.8 million illegals - more than twice the number of “Dreamers” because it includes those who were eligible but didn’t apply for DACA - to “morph into” citizenship over a period of 10 to 12 years. In return, Trump expects an (eventual) end to chain migration and the visa lottery, as well as $25 billion to build a border wall and another $5 billion for “other border security programs.”
          “Tell them not to worry about it, we’re going to solve the [DACA] problem,” the president assured. “Now, it’s up to the Democrats, but [Dreamers] should not be concerned.” He also hinted at extending the March 5 enforcement deadline for a deal if progress is made.
          Details are still being fleshed out, but there’s clearly something for everyone - and something for everyone to hate. Some leftists are, predictably, calling the proposal “racist.” And the real trouble is Democrats don’t actually want an immigration deal, preferring to keep it as a contentious election issue.
          On the Right, there are doubters too. “I do not believe we should be granting a path to citizenship to anybody here illegally,” said Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. Immigration policy guru Mark Krikorian calls Trump’s proposal  “preemptive surrender.” Breitbart News labeled the president “Amnesty Don.” Indeed, those in Trump’s electoral base may be the most difficult Doubting Thomases to convince, and the legitimate question is whether this will dispirit those voters come election time.
          Why? Well, the devil’s in the details. According to Richard Viguerie’s Conservative HQ, “While the White House proposal technically ends chain migration and the lottery, it uses ALL those visas to bring in the 4 million people on the visa waiting list. That means current immigration levels will continue for the next 10-15 years or more AND amnesty will be granted to a minimum of 1.8 million illegals. These are permanent changes to America’s electorate. If this passes the Trump proposal will make Republicans a permanent minority party and limited government constitutional conservatism a soon-to-be extinct philosophy of government.” Other than that…
          As National Review’s Rich Lowry added, “It would be a travesty if after defeating the rest of the GOP field in part on the strength of immigration, [Trump] signed on to the worst amnesty deal since 1986.” Lowry was referring to the scum-Durbin/RINO-Graham immigration bill that would allow the parents of these illegals the same deal as their progeny (bringing amnesty to possibly five million illegal aliens), but there are plenty of land mines even in a deal such as Trump is proposing. While he’s known for the art of the deal, Trump may not have as strong a bargaining position as his recent victory in the clown-Schumer Shutdown would lead him to believe.
          Consider, for example, that a lengthy border fence was already mandated by the Secure Fence Act - a bill passed by Congress and signed by President George W. Bush in 2006. Obviously this was never made into a budgetary priority, and when one considers the amount of time needed to design and build a border barrier - given the inevitable legal battles and roadblocks Democrats and their allies will throw at it in a stalling tactic until they can cancel it through their control of Congress, the White House or both - $25 billion may not get the job done.
          On the other hand, that 10- to 12-year process for citizenship? In reality, Trump only has, at best, six years to complete his mission - assuming, of course, he maintains a favorable Congress and wins re-election. Depending on this November’s midterm elections, his time frame could be less than a year. And no wall is built that quickly.
          The truth is that any move toward giving citizenship to those who entered the country illegally or those who came legally with a visa and chose to overstay it is a slap in the face to the millions of immigrants who took the time and money to go about the process of becoming Americans in the right way. Yes, Dreamers may be the most sympathetic poster children for compassion, but they aren’t exempt from the Rule of Law.
