BREAKING: Active Prosecution As Huma Abedin Gets TERRIBLE News From The FBI 

It turns out Anthony Weiner wasn’t the only family member under investigation. While Hillary Clinton loyal aide Huma Abedin was reportedly sidelined in the final stretch of the 2016 presidential campaign as a result of Abedin’s husband’s child-porn scandal, she was potentially an even greater liability than known. WND Reports, In fact, the U.S. Justice Department has been actively prosecuting two other Abedin family members – for conspiracy, wire fraud and securities fraud – and she along with the State Department, where she previously worked for Clinton, are mentioned in the federal case, court records show. Other documents reveal the same allegedly crooked kin solicited Abedin for help at State in a deal that netted more than $1.2 million in federal grants. These undesirable family connections, revealed here for the first time, raise fresh questions about influence peddling at the State Department under Clinton, who is now reportedly working with Abedin on a political comeback. Abedin’s relatives were major donors to the Clinton Foundation. And Abedin drew a salary from the Clinton Foundation, while at the same time working for the government. Records show that her first cousin, Omar Amanat, is under federal indictment for cheating investors in Kit Digital Inc. of millions of dollars between 2009 and 2012, forcing the tech start-up to go bankrupt in 2013. He has been placed under house arrest as he awaits trial, which is scheduled for Oct. 2. He has pleaded not guilty. Recent letters, Part 1 and Part 2 here, from attorneys for Omar and another co-defendant asking the judge to ease their detention reveal that Omar once warned Huma while she was at the State Department that she and other family members were under threat of being “hurt” by “special collection agents” trying to recover stolen funds. Court exhibits reveal that Omar was worried about Huma’s safety and contacted the State Department to make her “aware of this incident.” Moreover, Kit Digital appears in State Department emails sent to Abedin from Amanat and a business partner. In June 2009, not long after starting Kit Digital and just months after his cousin was named deputy chief of staff to Secretary of State Clinton, Amanat helped his business partner solicit Abedin for State favors on behalf of Soliya Inc., which was in partnership with Kit Digital. Summit Entertainment, a film company Amanat held a controlling stake in at the time, also stood to benefit.

Yesterday, I was walking into a 7-Eleven store to get a cup of coffee.  I opened the door and held it open for an African-American man wearing a PENN TRUCKING uniform.  He stopped in his tracks when he reached the doorway and asked, “Do I know you?” Dennis Michael Lynch reports.

Having never seen this man in my life, I responded, “Maybe you’ve seen me on TV?”

He looked at my face long and hard, then replied, “No, I don’t watch TV.”  I smiled and tried moving into the store but he said, “Wait.  Seriously, I know you — I’ve just seen you recently.”  I remained polite and replied, “Have a great day.”

As I walked away from him, I noticed the other people standing at the coffee counter staring at me — clearly, they were listening to the conversation between myself and the man.

A few seconds later, the man returns to the store and walks over to me as I am making my coffee.  My antennas go up — I’m thinking this guy probably figured out who I am and he doesn’t like my politics.

Ready for an altercation, I stand my guard as he holds his cell phone up to my face.  “This is you”, he proudly exclaims. He then hits the play button. I see myself sitting on an Amtrak train talking about my experience in Dearborn, Michigan.

I laugh, “Yes, that is me.”

He sticks out his hand and says, “You are my hero, brother.”  I ask, “Really, why is that?”

He goes on to tell me about the deliveries he makes to Michigan every few months.  “Fred” is a truck driver, and when he goes to Dearborn he cannot believe the changes taking place.  “The entire place is written in Arabic. People are dressed in full black dresses from head to toe, their faces are all covered.  I don’t like it at all, the place is a mess,” he says.

I ask, “Did you vote for Trump?”  He replies, “F*ck yes.”

The woman next to me is making herself a cup of coffee.  She stops and asks, “Can I see that video?”  Fred hands her the cell phone and she hits play.  Fred says, “What he shows in the video is true.”  The woman then hits pause and hands the phone back to Fred.  “I’ve seen this video — you look different in person,” she says to me.

Fred and the lady tell me they’ve shared the video with all of their friends and family.

To date, just on YouTube alone, it’s been watched more than 2 million times.  Tack on the Facebook version and the pirated copies of the video, and the estimated number is closer to 10 million.

UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS disinvites prominent feminist scholar Phyllis Chesler who was to speak on “Worldwide Trends in (Muslim) Honor Killings”

The latest conservative speaker to be “disinvited” from an American college is prominent feminist scholar Phyllis Chesler, whose participation in a University of Arkansas symposium on honor killing earlier this month was withdrawn days before the event.

Daily Caller  Behind the cancellation lies a sordid tale involving faculty machinations, threats from a dean, and at least one shattered window. Together, they offer a case study on the intellectual and moral corruption of academe.

Chesler is an emerita professor of psychology and women’s studies at the City University of New York whose pioneering scholarship exposed the horrors of honor killing, forced marriages, and other brutalities women suffer in Muslim lands and beyond.

She was invited to deliver a lunchtime lecture on “Worldwide Trends in Honor Killings” at a conference on “Violence in the Name of Honor: Confronting and Responding to Honor Killings and Forced Marriage in the West” on April 13-14, cosponsored by the law school and the Saudi-funded King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies.

Emails obtained by Campus Watch (CW) from University personnel who requested anonymity show that early on the morning of April 7, a triad of professors – Joel Gordon, Mohja Kahf, and Ted R. Swedenburg – pressured Center director Thomas Paradise to cancel Chesler’s appearance.

They were joined by a dean—the emails point to Arts and Sciences Dean Todd G. Shields as the likely suspect—who threatened to cancel the symposium and freeze funding for the Middle East Studies Program (MEST), a unit of the King Fahd Center, if Chesler spoke.

The professorial trio plotted to isolate and besmirch Chesler, should their efforts to disinvite her fail. The three demanded that a “qualified” speaker—i.e., one who disagreed with her—follow Chesler’s remarks, that MEST “publicly withdraw its sponsorship,” and that it provide copies of “Islamophobia Is Racism,” a flagrantly biased, pro-Islamist bibliography “created by a collective of academics inspired by the Ferguson syllabus, for distribution at the symposium.” To complete their virtue signaling, a statement would be read “condemning Islamophobia and bigotry, and affirming [MEST’s] commitment to gender justice and diversity.”

Chesler was charged with “Islamophobia,” a verbal weapon created to question the emotional stability of its targets and silence all criticism of Islam rather than advance debate. Its use against Chesler, herself a psychologist, is not the last irony of this episode.

Some opponents also resorted to violence to silence an outspoken opponent of violence against women. According to emails dated April 7, a window was “shattered” at the private home of Fahd Center director Paradise further to intimidate him into cancelling Chesler’s lecture.

The university has a chapter of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Muslim Students Association (MSA), a Saudi-founded organization that promotes Islamist propaganda—including Islamic supremacism, opposition to women’s rights, hostility toward America, and anti-Semitism—on campuses nationwide.

That Islamists played a role in cancelling Chesler’s talk is revealed in a professor’s April 7 email stating that he anticipated “campus Muslim organizations would get involved” and “a Muslim RSO [Registered Student Organization] might be involved too.” Later that day the same professor emailed a colleague that things were “getting heated,” “really getting ugly and complicated,” and that “it is getting ugly and they are rallying.”

That bigotry triumphed in Fayetteville last week. Chesler’s scholarship exposing the horrific crimes of honor killings and forced marriages sank her invitation not because she’s “Islamophobic,” but precisely because her work undermines the Wahhabi-funded cult of victimology.

By its tenets, because all Muslims are victims of Western colonialism and prejudice, no exposure of systemic social problems in Muslim societies—including the brutal slaughter of women—can be allowed, much less supported.

A Minneapolis woman who sent money to the militant group al-Shabab in Somalia was sentenced to five years’ probation on Wednesday after she cooperated with prosecutors, who said the light sentence would send a message to community members who shunned the woman yet supported other defendants who remained defiant.

Amina Mohamud Esse, 43, pleaded guilty in 2014 to one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a foreign terrorist organization. She faced up to 15 years in prison, but prosecutors sought probation because she provided substantial assistance to the government.

“I accept responsibility for what I did,” Esse told the judge through an interpreter. “I’m willing to do all I can for the rest of my life to correct the mistakes I did.”

Her cooperation included nearly 60 meetings and phone calls with authorities, as well as testimony in the trial against ringleaders of an online network of women who used an internet chat room to raise thousands of dollars for al-Shabab, which the U.S. says is involved in terrorism.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles Kovats said Esse was the 21st person to be sentenced in terrorism cases in Minnesota in the last five years. The sentences have ranged from probation to 35 years in prison.

Kovats noted Esse’s case is the first in which his office has recommended probation, saying it would send a message that “working with the U.S. is the right thing to do, even when the loudest community voices don’t seem to agree.

You have to give Haroon Syed credit for good taste, but nonetheless, his remedy for this Elton John concert was a bit extreme.

Of course, because Western authorities always assume that jihadis must be insane. They assume that Islam is a Religion of Peace, and so anyone who plots mass murder in its name has to be crazy, right?

A teenager faces jail after plotting a bomb attack on an Elton John concert in Hyde Park.

Haroon Syed, 19, from Hounslow, pleaded guilty on Thursday at the Old Bailey to a charge of preparation of terrorist acts between April and September last year after a last-ditch attempt to get his case thrown out failed.

The court heard how Syed tried to get weapons online, including a bomb vest or explosives, and trawled the web to find a busy area in the capital such as Oxford Circus to launch a mass casualty attack.

Syed was caught chatting online with officers from the British Security Service who posed as a fellow extremist who could help him source the weapons.

Judge Michael Topolski QC adjourned sentencing until June 8 for a probation and psychiatric report to be done. He said Syed faced a “discretionary life sentence”.

As Syed was being drawn in by agents, his older brother was jailed for plotting an Islamic State-inspired Poppy Day attack.

At an earlier hearing, the court heard how key evidence was gathered from Syed’s communications with the fake contact Abu Yusuf via mobile phone and social media.

Syed asked for “gear” for his “op” and when asked to give details, he said he needed a machine gun and an explosive vest “so after some damage with machine gun do martyrdom … that’s what I’m planning to do.”

When Abu Yusuf said it would be costly, the defendant told him he was “broke” but pressed on, saying: “You have to find out the price for the machine gun, any gun.”

Initially Syed cried off meeting his contact, complaining that he was being followed by police who will “have eyes on me if I come”.

An officer pretended to be Abu Yusuf when they did finally get together at a Costa Coffee in Slough and their conversation was taped.

Throughout August, the discussions continued about making or getting a bomb and acquiring a gun, even though Syed confessed he had never used one before.

On August 30, Syed stressed that he needed a “portable” device, saying: “I might put the bomb in the train and then I’m going to jump out so the bomb explodes on the train … So ask the brother if he can make that type of bomb with button.”

Meanwhile, he researched targets and they arranged to pick up the bomb in exchange for £150 the following week.

Syed asked Abu Yusuf to make sure there were lots of nails in it and added: “I was thinking of Oxford Street … If I go to prison, I go to prison. If I die, I die, you understand.”

He searched the internet for IS, past terrorist attacks, and potential locations which included an Elton John concert in Hyde Park on September 11 last year.

Police moved in to arrest the defendant at his home on September 8 and his phone was seized. Asked for the password to unlock the device, Syed said: “Yeah I.S.I.S – you like that?”

In legal papers prepared for his defence, Syed was described as “highly vulnerable due to family history, lack of education, addiction to violent online games and the arrest and imprisonment of his brother”.

He was groomed by radicals online but he never intended to carry out an attack as his chats with the agent were a “fantasy to see how far it would go”, according to his defence statement.

Syed entered his guilty plea in the wake of an unsuccessful attempt to either get the case thrown out, or exclude the key evidence from the online chat.

His lawyer Mark Summers QC argued he should have been given help by the Prevent de-radicalisation group rather than steered in the opposite direction.

He said: “The proper response of the State should have been to engage Prevent to help this young man, to steer him away from the path it was feared he was going down, rather than guiding him down it.”…

Organizers of the 82 nd Avenue of Roses Parade announced Tuesday that the event will be canceled, for fear that the east Portland parade could be disrupted by “the type of riots which happen in downtown Portland.” Originally scheduled this Saturday, April 29, the parade is meant to highlight the local community and businesses along Southeast 82 nd Avenue, aiming to turn around the negative perception many people have of the area. It started in 2007 and has since become a popular event on the Rose Festival calendar. This year’s parade was once again set to feature the Multnomah County Republican Party as one of the many groups slated to march, but that inclusion drew ire from some of the city’s left-leaning protest groups. At least two protests were planned for the day of the parade, one by Oregon Students Empowered and another by Direct Action Alliance . Both events were mentioned in an email sent to parade organizers on Saturday, threatening to shut down the event with hundreds of protesters in the street. “You have seen how much power we have downtown and that the police cannot stop us from shutting down roads so please consider your decision wisely,” the anonymous email said, telling organizers they could cancel the Republican group’s registration or else face action from protesters. “This is non-negotiable.” The parade is organized by the 82 nd Avenue of Roses Business Association, a part of the neighborhood business organization Venture Portland. Representatives from neither organization returned calls for comment. The cancelation isn’t necessarily a win for the protest groups. Jacob Bureros, an organizer with the Direct Action Alliance, said the organization – which intended to speak out against fascism and white supremacy during the parade – is sad to hear the news. “We are disappointed that the parade was canceled,” he said. “We’re members of this community and this is an awesome parade.” James Buchal, chairman of the Multnomah County Republican Party, said his group was ready to march despite the protesters. It would seem a mystery, but as I deal in truth and reality…I’m not at all surprised by the snub.

Come to think of it…it’s probably the same reason I’ve never been invited to give the Christmas Eve service at church. That said, rather than stand there blowing smoke up the gowns of the soon to be graduated, like so many other do on an annual basis, I will simply issue this year’s address via my keyboard…and it should be required reading for any and all who are about to leave our esteemed asylums of higher indoctrination.

Mall Cop Tries To Kick Navy SEAL Out Of Store For Talking About God – Watch What Happens Next

A video from a mall in Dallas Fort Worth is going viral this week, and the footage is extremely disturbing.

According to American Military News, the footage shows a mall cop try to kick a Navy SEAL out of a Texas mall because he was talking about religion in a private conversation.

After hearing the combat veteran talking privately about the Gospel to his friends, the mall cop interrupts them and says that they aren’t allowed to discuss religion on private property.

He then threatens to charge them with criminal trespassing if they don’t leave.

That’s when things get messy.

It didn’t help his case that he shared a joke about a devout Muslim on his Facebook page.

Now the small landlord who rented out the main floor of his Brampton home to an Arab Muslim couple must pay them $12,000 for failing to accommodate their religious practices when showing their apartment to prospective tenants.

The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario also found that he “harassed them and created a poisoned housing environment.”

His sins? John Alabi refused to remove his shoes when showing the bedroom where the couple prayed and while he always gave them the mandated 24-hour notice before showings, he didn’t always provide the five-minute heads-up they’d requested to ensure the wife was modestly dressed and they weren’t in the midst of their five daily prayers.

“There was absolutely no evidence that the applicants’ requests for additional notice and for the removal of shoes in this case were an attempt by them to impose their way of life on the respondent or anyone else,” ruled vice chair Jo-Anne Pickel. “(They) were merely making simple requests for the accommodation of their religious practices … their requests easily could have been met without any hardship to the respondent, let alone any undue hardship as that term is used in human rights law.”

In December 2014, Walid Madkour and his wife Heba Ismail moved from Montreal into Alabi’s ground-floor apartment. Following several disputes, including the couple allegedly wanting their landlord to be quiet after 10 p.m., they agreed to terminate the lease on Feb. 28, 2015.

In the meantime, Alabi tried to rent out the unit. Madkhour wanted a one-hour notification of any showing in addition to the 24-hour notice.

Alabi told him that by law, only 24 hours was necessary. Madkhour accused him of “racism and violation of our civil rights:” Since his landlord was well aware that Ismail was unemployed and always home, “he considered it harassment for (Alabi) to continue to say that he would enter the premises without permission.”

Alabi texted back: “Welcome to Ontario, Canada.”

The landlord told the hearing that he meant that apartment viewing rules were different in Ontario than in Quebec where the couple had last lived. The human rights tribunal saw it as another example of discrimination.

That same evening, Ismail heard loud pounding on the steps outside their door; Alabi said he was just shovelling the snow; she said it was intimidating and frightening.

The couple called police.

They were told that contrary to their understanding, their landlord had a right to show the apartment when they were home. As a “courtesy,” Alabi agreed to give them five minutes notice in addition to the 24 hours. But that negotiated detente ended two days later after Ismail videotaped Alabi refusing to remove his shoes when entering their bedroom. “She said it was disrespectful and an act of racism.”

Alabi told the hearing that his shoes had never been an issue before and accused his tenants of trying to set up roadblocks to his renting their flat. He also accused them of trying to impose their way of life on him and said “the fact that someone belongs to a religion does not permit them to inconvenience others.”

The tribunal didn’t see it that way — especially after the tenants introduced their landlord’s Facebook page that had a “joke” about a devout Arab Muslim that they found offensive. Alabi told the hearing “he had freedom of speech and could post what he wanted on his Facebook page … He did not share the post to attack anyone. He said he shared it only because it made him laugh.”

Be careful what you post online — Pickel saw it as further evidence of his bias.

“When considered together, I find that the comment ‘welcome to Ontario, Canada,’ the making of loud pounding noises outside the applicants’ door shortly after making that comment, and (Alabi)’s refusal to remove his shoes when entering (their) prayer space amounted to harassment under the Code.”

In addition to paying them $6,000 each for injury to their dignity, feelings and self-respect, Alabi must also take an e-learning course on “Human Rights in Rental Housing.”

Tillerson Says China Asked North Korea to Stop Nuclear Tests

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Thursday that China has threatened to impose sanctions on North Korea if it conducts further nuclear tests.

“We know that China is in communications with the regime in Pyongyang,” Tillerson said on Fox News Channel. “They confirmed to us that they had requested the regime conduct no further nuclear test.”

{hannity.com} ~ The Trump administration unveiled its dramatic new tax plan on Wednesday, hoping to pass the new legislation by August. If successful, this would be the first major adjustment in federal tax policy since 1986... Speaking with reporters at the White House briefing room, White House economic advisor Gary Cohn and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin outlined key details from the new proposal. “We have a once in a generation opportunity to do something big and important on taxes,” said Cohn. According to the Trump administration, the new tax plan will:

• Cut corporate tax rates from 35% to 15%.
• Reduce the number of income tax brackets from seven to three: 35%, 25%, and 10%.
• Eliminate most tax deductions.
• Repeal the estate or 'death' tax.
• Permit a one time 'tax holiday' for overseas entities that wish to repatriate money back to the United States.
• Repeal the 'liar-nobamacare' tax and the alternative minimum tax.

{familysecuritymatters.org} ~ A year ago, I joined a number of "Secure the Grid" colleagues at an Austin, Texas conference to discuss the existential threat to America posed by possible physical, cyber and electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attacks on the nation's electric power grid... or by a natural EMP event, a massive solar storm, that will one day certainly occur. The Texas Tribune report on that conference intended to inform Senator Bob Hall's efforts to gain support for his resolution in the Texas legislature to protect the "Texas Interconnect" of electric power grid against those threats. And May 3, 2016 discussion of that effort among others on the same trip, including Indiana, Louisiana and Alabama, to encourage a "bottom's up" effort to protect the electric power grid. Muddy Maxine Waters: What a Riot

{townhall.com} ~ Are you freaking kidding me? Thirteen-term Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters, Beltway barnacle permanently affixed to USS Government, is now the fresh-faced "rock star" of the Democratic Party.

"Auntie Maxine" is stoking the resistance, inspiring millennials, combating hate, crusading against corruption and invoking the counterinsurgent cry to "stay woke!"

I do not have enough guffaws to give.

This new spokesmodel for civility and clean government has stoked division and exploited taxpayers for decades.

Change agent? She has served on the Democratic National Committee since 1980 -- when the Atari 2600 was cutting-edge, Kim Kardashian was a newborn, and Al Franken was hamming it up on "Saturday Night Live."

Waters has spent 37 years in office -- many of those years as head of the Congressional Black Caucus -- promising to make life better for constituents in economically ravaged South Central Los Angeles.

What do the denizens of her district have to show for it? Staggering levels of persistent unemployment, poverty and gang violence as the 25th anniversary of the L.A. riots looms this coming weekend.

What does Rep. Waters have to show for it?

She's earned a lifetime of left-wing adoration for whitewashing the deadly riots as a "rebellion," excusing the week-long shooting, looting and arson orgy as "a spontaneous reaction to a lot of injustice and a lot of alienation and frustration," and coddling Crips and Bloods gang members -- with whom she performed the Electric Slide as part of her "fearless support and understanding of young people and their efforts at self-expression."

I covered Waters in the early 1990s as an editorial writer and columnist at the Los Angeles Daily News. Her federally funded Maxine Waters Employment Preparation Center was a gang-infested boondoggle.

She embraced Damian Williams, the infamous thug who hurled a chunk of concrete at white truck driver Reginald Denny and performed a victory dance over the bloodied innocent bystander.

And she and her family personally profited from her rise to racially demagogic power.

She owns a tony mansion in predominantly white Hancock Park, several miles outside her congressional district.

She secured an ambassadorship to the Bahamas for her husband, a former pro football player and car salesman whose main qualification was having traveled to the island for a vacation.

Her daughter, Karen, has scooped up nearly $650,000 in payments from Mama Waters' slate mailer operation for her federal campaign committee since 2006, the Washington Free Beacon reported this week. And Mama Waters owes her well-heeled daughter an additional $108,000.

Waters also mau-maued the House Veterans Committee into hiring two black staffers.

And she walked away with a slap on the wrist from the toothless House Ethics Committee in 2012 after being charged with multiple ethics violations related to her meddling in minority-owned OneUnited Bank.

Reminder for all the new fangirls and fanboys suffering from Maxi-mnesia: Her husband, Sidney, was an investor in one of the banks that merged into OneUnited. As stockholders, they profited handsomely from their relationship with the bank.

It was a mutually beneficial relationship. After Waters' office personally intervened and lobbied the Treasury Department in 2008, OneUnited received $12 million in federal TARP bailout money -- despite another government agency concluding that the bank operated "without effective underwriting standards" and engaged "in speculative investment practices." After the federal bailout of Fannie/Freddie, OneUnited's stock in the government-sponsored enterprises plunged to a value estimated at less than $5 million. Only through Waters' intervention was OneUnited able to secure an emergency meeting with the Treasury and then-Secretary Henry Paulson.

Tom Fitton, Judicial Watch president, reported that Waters' friend and fellow California Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren helped delay her scheduled 2010 House ethics trial on the matter by stalling subpoenas and improperly firing two attorneys working on the investigation. Six of 10 House Ethics panel members quit the case in 2012 over questions about their partiality. An outside investigator absolved Waters of any wrongdoing.

The newfound Maxine Waters Fan Club might want to know that Waters' government cronyism and self-dealing earned her a "Most Corrupt member of Congress" designation from the left-wing Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington five times -- in 2005, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2017.

Now, Muddy Maxine is leading the charge to drain the swamp that sustains her. What a riot.

Exclusive Interview: Trump ‘Absolutely’ Looking At Breaking Up 9th Circuit

  By Aleen Realmuto 0 President Trump said Wednesday that he has “absolutely” considered proposals that would split up the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, where judges have blocked two of his executive actions, The Washington Examiner reports. “Absolutely, I have,” Trump said of considering 9th Circuit breakup proposals during a far-ranging interview with the Washington Examiner at the White House. “There are many people that want to break up the 9th Circuit. It’s outrageous.” “Everybody immediately runs to the 9th Circuit. And we have a big country. We have lots of other locations. But they immediately run to the 9th Circuit. Because they know that’s like, semi-automatic,” Trump said. His comments came one day after U.S. District Judge William Orrick temporarily blocked Trump’s efforts to withhold funds from any municipality that refuses to cooperate with immigration enforcement officers. Orrick, based in San Francisco, argued that Trump had overstepped his authority in January when he directed the Justice Department to put immigration-related conditions on grants for so-called sanctuary cities that may not be directly related to law enforcement. The case, if appealed, would go before the 9th Circuit. Other judges on the court halted two different versions of an executive action aimed at tightening vetting requirements for immigrants from Middle Eastern countries, because both actions called for a temporary suspension of some immigration from several predominantly Muslim countries. “The language could not be any clearer. I mean, the language on the ban, it reads so easy that a reasonably good student in the first grade will fully understand it. And they don’t even mention the words in their rejection on the ban,” Trump said. “And the same thing with this [sanctuary city decision]. I mean, when you have people that are being enabled to commit crime. And in San Francisco, when you look at Kate Steinle being shot and here is the court, you know, right in that same general area. And when you look at a Kate Steinle, when you look at so many other things.” Trump was referring to a young woman in San Francisco, a sanctuary city, who was gunned down by an illegal immigrant in 2015. He has frequently pointed to Steinle’s murder as evidence that sanctuary city policies can be harmful to American citizens. “Sanctuary cities have been very, very dangerous, very, very bad. And, you know, we’ve done a great job on law enforcement, we’ve done a great job at the border,” Trump said. “And all of our most talented people say sanctuary cities are a disaster.” Republicans have long criticized the 9th Circuit for its perceived liberal leanings and its enormous geographical reach, which has led to bureaucratic backlogs. GOP lawmakers have repeatedly introduced legislation that would carve out several states under the 9th Circuit’s jurisdiction and create a new court designed to lighten the Ninth’s caseload. The 9th Circuit hears appeals from courts in nine West Coast states and two U.S. territories. Of its 25 active judges, 18 were appointed by Democratic presidents. Trump said Wednesday that opponents of his policies have engaged in “judge shopping” in their efforts to find a sympathetic judicial platform for their partisan objections. “You see judge shopping, or what’s gone on with these people, they immediately run to the 9th Circuit,” Trump said. “It’s got close to an 80 percent reversal period, and what’s going on in the 9th Circuit is a shame.”

Berkeley Didn’t Birth ‘Free Speech’ but Seems Intent to Bury It

Demosthenes, the Athenian rhetorician and champion of liberty, pointed out around 355 B.C. that residents of Athens were free to praise Sparta’s regime, but Spartans were banned from praising Athens.

In 1689, the British passed a law guaranteeing freedom of speech in Parliament. A century later, French revolutionaries incorporated into law the Declaration of the Rights of Man, which established free speech as a universal right. Two years later, the Americans ratified the First Amendment, which guarantees that the state shall not infringe on the right to free speech. Roughly a century and half later, in 1948, the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which says, “Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression….”

I mention all of this because every time I read or hear about the pathetic state of affairs at the University of California, Berkeley — where conservative speakers and rabble-rousers alike are banned from speaking lest they be assaulted by a mob — journalists and other commentators insist on pointing out the irony that this is all happening “where the Free Speech Movement was born.”

Yes, I know there was a thing called the Free Speech Movement. And, yes, its members and leaders talked a good deal about free speech.
