Suspicious Deaths of Bankers Are Now Classified as “Trade Secrets” by Federal Regulator

It doesn’t get any more Orwellian than this: Wall Street mega banks crash the U.S. financial system in 2008. Hundreds of thousands of financial industry workers lose their jobs. Then, beginning late last year, a rash of suspicious deaths start to occur among current and former bank employees.  Next we learn that four of the Wall Street mega banks likely hold over $680 billion face amount of life insurance on their workers, payable to the banks, not the families. We ask their Federal regulator for the details of this life insurance under a Freedom of Information Act request and we’re told the information constitutes “trade secrets.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the life expectancy of a 25 year old male with a Bachelor’s degree or higher as of 2006 was 81 years of age. But in the past five months, five highly educated JPMorgan male employees in their 30s and one former employee aged 28, have died under suspicious circumstances, including three of whom allegedly leaped off buildings – a statistical rarity even during the height of the financial crisis in 2008.

There is one other major obstacle to brushing away these deaths as random occurrences – they are not happening at JPMorgan’s closest peer bank – Citigroup. Both JPMorgan and Citigroup are global financial institutions with both commercial banking and investment banking operations. Their employee counts are similar – 260,000 employees for JPMorgan versus 251,000 for Citigroup.

Both JPMorgan and Citigroup also own massive amounts of bank-owned life insurance (BOLI), a controversial practice that pays the corporation when a current or former employee dies. (In the case of former employees, the banks conduct regular “death sweeps” of public records using former employees’ Social Security numbers to learn if a former employee has died and then submits a request for payment of the death benefit to the insurance company.)

Wall Street On Parade carefully researched public death announcements over the past 12 months which named the decedent as a current or former employee of Citigroup or its commercial banking unit, Citibank. We found no data suggesting Citigroup was experiencing the same rash of deaths of young men in their 30s as JPMorgan Chase. Nor did we discover any press reports of leaps from buildings among Citigroup’s workers.

So, my friends, we have (yet another) problem.

Let us first get something absolutely crystal clear, without any doubt in anyone’s mind, so that what I am about to put forth here cannot be misconstrued or used in a manner that is not consistent with its meaning.

I do not, nor do we at Conservative Brain Works, condone any sort of violence. We do not condone hate crimes as those are spurred by misconceptions and people who misunderstand the true meaning of intolerance. So that being said let us move on to the meat and potatoes of the story.

Here we have another politician, Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), introducing legislation. That in itself is, well… It’s kind of what we pay them to do, however this particular one may be more problematic than, at least on the surface, it seems. All I ask is that you go to each of the links that I have embedded and read for yourself. You will find, if you read enough, that a simple reporting of something can lead to convictions, and again that doesn’t seem so bad right? However let’s look at something that I myself was party to recently, now this is a quote from a Facebook post that I responded to here on Conservative Brain Works  - “Any person who raises a weapon against the government should be shot & killed or arrested & prosecuted as terrorists.” Okay, here we have someone who was having a knee-jerk and gut reaction to a story that they had read on Facebook. Naturally the media had done its job very well (or poorly – you decide) and had made this particular story something that it was not. As a matter of fact (and here’s where I make you search through my Conservative Brain Works page to find the story) the intent of the person that made statements was quite the opposite of what the media portrayed those statements to be. Now let’s look at exactly what was said in this post “any person who raises a weapon against the government should be shot and killed…” Now I’m not sure what our federal government would think when this is viewed through the lens of the newly introduced legislation… But let’s dissect this only small portion one piece at a time shall we?

Let’s go with the first part first: “any persons who raises a weapon”… Now that seems to me like it would be pretty much the definition of violence. Okay so here we have someone saying that anybody who raises a weapon against… Sounds like an opening statement to something that could be a very powerful statement right? But now we get to the second part of that (actually let’s go to the end part and then come back to the middle): “…should be shot and killed.” OH - now that sounds like part and parcel of the definition of hate right? So one would think that, at least so far, a post like this would fall right in line with this most recent legislative introduction by Sen. Edward J Markey (D – Mass.), right? Perhaps, and here comes the rub, this particular post may be dismissed as not hateful and maybe even acceptable – and here’s why: were going to go back to the middle “… against the government…” That is where we would see a blind eye turned to something that is perhaps the best definition of hate speech that I’ve ever personally seen. Now let’s look at that post in its entirety so we can get a good, logical, non-emotional, constitutional examination of this statement to see if it really does fall in line with what you and I, as American citizens, would consider hate speech.

“Clive Bundy is a Terrorist. A home grown, bigoted & racist terrorist. He should be arrested and his property and holding seized. Any person who raises a weapon against the government should be shot & killed or arrested & prosecuted as terrorists.”

At first glance this simply seems like an emotional, knee-jerk reaction to a story. But it is a prime example of what our government would consider hate speech. Now this hate speech is not against a particular ethnic background nor is it against a religious viewpoint nor is it against anything that is currently listed in the law (again I have made the links available here so go read for yourself) but it is hate speech against someone who is standing up for their own liberties! It is hate speech against people who would (and you must use this with common sense people) stand up to the government, while staying within the confines of the first and Second Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America. Now do you honestly think that the government would have an issue with this? I think perhaps this would be a good question for this particular Senator.

Now if I were to post something on my really awesome webpage under Facebook, Conservative Brain Works, and said that I passionately disagreed with… Oh… I don’t know, something like: abortion, homosexual marriage, high taxes, bloated government, too much government control, too much trolling for information on American citizens, removal of civil liberties (I will stop the list now because I could go on for probably three or four pages!) - You get the idea - I would simply be exercising my constitutional rights. Now as long as I never said I was promoting violence to any certain group or people and as long as I never said I was condoning hatred (which…, we don’t) then no one would say anything right?

WRONG - we have already seen where our own government will target groups and use strong arm and militaristic tactics to penalize them if they disagree with the current administration. But I am partially digressing from the point of this particular article. We are entering an era where freedom of speech is being muted by those in power. I cannot tell you how many times I have gone to various websites where people can leave comments on issues and have seen the very essence of what hate speech is. I myself prefer not to use expletives when I’m speaking and I do not like to use them when I’m writing as there are many eloquent ways to express one’s thoughts and opinions in, perhaps, an even more powerful way than just cussing. But that being said I do not dissuade others from practicing their freedom of speech. I do not like it, I would prefer it if people did not use cuss words all the time, I find them to be small minded and repulsive – but that does not mean they do not have the right to use them! Blood has been shed, by many many people, so that people can spew anything they want to out of their mouths. I do not care if you are talking about your favorite sports group, singer, color, whatever – you have the right to speak as you want to speak! Now of course we must temper this freedom with common sense and a duty to protect our own (that would be the American citizens, not just those in power in the federal government) and that would include recognizing real danger when that danger is embedded in the exercise of this freedom of speech.

But when do we say that crossing a line between freedom of speech and oppressive, Orwellian government control is not acceptable? When will we cease to freely, with dull cow eyes, hand over our civil liberties and our freedoms to those who would take them in the “interest of the better good”? At what point did we relinquish our self-reliance and personal responsibility and allow those whom we elect to dictate what we can and cannot say and what we can and cannot do in our lives?

The final question, that I beg your indulgence for, is this: Let’s just say that the federal government begins searching your posts on the Internet (on any site that you may go to and voice your opinion). Now let’s just say, for example, that you posted something that may in some small and infinitesimal way be construed as hateful speech. Let us say, for example, that you highly disagreed with three women getting married and getting the same tax provided benefits as a good wholesome traditional married couple. In fact, you probably do not have any hatred in your heart, you are merely disgusted with something that you find vile and offensive! But, if it is up to big brother (I must be on some sort of Orwellian kick today), any time that you disagree with something that the federal government does not disagree with you may be held in contempt of the law. I know that seems a little extreme, but is it really? We have just recently seen the effects of what real hatred is, and that hatred came from within the ranks of our own federal government and the various organizations that fall under federally controlled agencies. We have seen people who were filing for tax exempt status (using current laws, current rules, exercising proper due diligence etc.) being targeted because they disagreed with the current administration.

Ladies and gentlemen, my fellow Americans, my fellow Soldiers, my brothers and sisters – at what point do we say to the federal government that they need to stop infringing upon our rights? Our rights which have been continually renewed with the blood of fallen heroes, Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, Sailors, all those who would fight to keep America as she was intended by the framers.

We here at Conservative Brain Works believe that the Constitution needs to be upheld. We have rule of law, we have freedoms, and we have a balance between the two. We believe that the states should have the power that the states were intended to have, and that the federal government relinquish its power and gives it back to the states. We believe that personal responsibility, honor, integrity, personal courage, (yeah, if you are or were in the Army you know what I’m quoting here) compassion for those who need help, and willingness to help those who are in need are characteristics of the individual. These are not characteristics that can be given to you by the federal government.

We are a people under law – but more importantly we are a people under constitutional freedom. We are a people who will use our current process (you know, that whole voting thing) to remove from power those who would sully the Constitution, take away our freedoms, remove our civil liberties, better themselves at the expense of the American taxpayer, and think that they are better than you and I.

So go forth, blog, post, write narratives, express your words as you would express them. Just remember that when someone reads, hears, watches what you say that you are representing not only yourself and your thoughts but the very Constitution that give you the freedom to say what you say.

Ken, the non-politician politician.

Most people I grew up with had an idea about democracy. They thought when a decision was made it should be by vote.  In school we voted on class officers, on cheerleaders, and on various decisions.  If someone voted a different way than you that was their right.

How have we come to the point of being against another person's right to express themselves. This goes against the very premise of a free society.  Lately the white house has begun stacking the deck against non-profit groups which oppose them by using the IRS as the agency of enforcement. The same government agency is being used to punish citizens who choose to reject the ACA(so-called affordable care act).

Our current federal government is against free speech and the right to bear arms. In the past there was a majority of citizens in both political parties who believed these were fundamental rights.  There was no issue about our basic rights.  The political differences tended to be about foreign policy or budgetary matters.  We have previously agreed to protect our country, our children and grandchildren.

I wonder if we could get back to basics and agree to protect our country from illegal alliens and stand together to protect our freedoms which are outlined in the constitution.. Can we agree that whoever is against us and trying to destroy our nation is our enemy? Whichever party we belong to, we should be able to agree on this fundamental truth.

Our survival depends on what we do with this truth. Politicians, agencies, political correctness, and all of the above deserve equal condemnation if they are trying to destroy our country and its constitution.

From the cow pastures of Nevada to the courts of the National Basketball Association (NBA), America’s preoccupation with race relations and racism has been stoked to a bloody frenzy.

It seems like just yesterday, a young, clean and articulate Democrat Senator from Illinois (with no negro dialect!)  captured the imagination of the nation, and the world, really, with ringing oratory and powerful Promises of Hope and Change.

Among his most fiery words were Obama’s promise to usher in a “Post Racial” era, where, under the leadership of the first American president of color, divisions between the races could be soothed and allowed to heal.

He could do it, Obama stated, because of his charisma and grace.

Unfortunately, the Obama presidency has not improved racial relations in America; in fact, relations have deteriorated badly during his watch.

Of course it would be idiotic to blame Obama alone for the current racial turmoil that permeates American life.

Still, one cannot help but wonder if the unrest would be less intense if the President made an honest effort to put out the fire, rather than pouring gasoline on the flames in order to divide people for political gain?

Perhaps The One could soothe, rather than aggravate, the situation by promoting diplomacy rather than further division?

After all, it was he who promised a “Post Racial” America.

President Lincoln’s declared “government of the people, by the people, for the people” may be in danger of perishing from the earth after all.

A recent study by professors Martin Gilens of Princeton and Benjamin I. Page found that the U.S. now resembles more of an oligarchy than a democratic republic.

“The central point that emerges from our research is that economic elites and organized groups representing business interests have substantial independent impacts on U.S. government policy, while mass-based interest groups and average citizens have little or no independent influence.”

The author of a recent commentary about oligarchy in the 21^st century, Matthew Continetti, of the Free Beacon, might even suggest that last phrase be repeated.

“Mass-based interest groups and average citizens have little or no independent influence.”

“What we are in danger of losing because of the ‘extreme inequality in terms of political influence and the production of knowledge and information’ are the classical liberal values of negative freedom, of religious liberty, of equality before the law, of free markets,” he wrote.

“The inequality of income our bipartisan ruling class sanctimoniously condemns is the very tool it uses to shore up the inequalities of power and communication from which it benefits. Affluent, self-righteous, self-seeking, self-possessed, triumphalist, out of touch, hostile to dissent – this is what oligarchy looks like in the 21^st century,” he wrote.

The study looked at 1,779 policy issues and found that, “The probability of policy change is nearly the same (around 0.3) whether a tiny minority or a large majority of average citizens favor a proposed policy change. By contrast – again with other actors held constant – a proposed policy change with low support among economically elite Americans (one-out-of-five in favor) is adopted only about 18 percent of the time, while a proposed change with high support (four-out-of-five in favor) is adopted about 45 percent of the time.”

The authors both work with the Scholars Strategy Network, which claims it “brings together many of America’s leading scholars to address pressing public challenges at the national, state, and local levels. As progressive-minded citizens, SSN members spell out the democratic and policy implications of their research in ways that are broadly accessible,” but denies any particular political affiliations.

Larry Bartels of the Washington Post counts Gilens as a former colleague and Page as a “sometimes collaborator.”

In a recent interview with TPM, Gilens stated, “I’d say that contrary to what decades of political science research might lead you to believe, ordinary citizens have virtually no influence over what their government does in the United States. And economic elites and interest groups, especially those representing business, have a substantial degree of influence. Government policy-making over the last few decades reflects the preferences of those groups – of economic elites and of organized interests.”

Marc E. Fitch, a recent winner of the Robert Novak Journalism Fellowship and an author currently researching whether or not studies like this can be used as a guiding force in public policy for an upcoming book, said, “Studies, such as this one, are really pieces of a larger, almost incomprehensible puzzle. I think the fact that both political sides seem to immediately recognize this piece of the puzzle tells us that it’s on to something.

“The left sees corporations like the Koch brothers and the right sees GE and George Soros. I think the ironic thing is that the people commenting on this study and making a big deal out of it are often themselves part of the problem. Let’s face it, the money and media and the politicians are all in D.C.”

Fitch points out that the problem may be more systemic and ingrained into the culture than merely money equaling power.

“Since Reagan, every president has come from Harvard or Yale. Because these are considered the most prestigious education institutions in the United States, the graduates that they produce are funneled straight into Washington or are given positions in some of the major media outlets,” he said.

“It’s a belief that merely by attending these schools you are somehow a superior individual and deserve a position of power. You don’t see too many peanut farmers like Jimmy Carter or generals like Eisenhower even trying to go into politics anymore. Even Sarah Palin was mocked for the college she attended. I think that, in itself, could be the cause of the separation of the policy makers from the people.”

Gilens work appears to point in that same direction. The affluent attend elite universities that are among the most fervently leftist and liberal institutions in the country. Gilens states that the affluent tend to hold more socially liberal positions than the majority.

“We’d see, perhaps ironically, less liberal policies in some domains like religious or moral issues. Affluent people tend to be more socially liberal on things like abortion or gay rights.”

Gilens cites the lack of a Worker’s Party or Socialist Party as part of the problem but Fitch says that may appeal to the professor’s preconceived notions of representation of the common man, they are often just replacing evil with a greater evil.

“You would just end up with more of the same. This is a deeper cultural issue about personal responsibility and honesty. You can throw as much money as you want at a politician but it is his or her job to put their constituency before their own pockets. That is not happening in any way. Until we consider moral character over celebrity in politics we will keep ending up in this position.”

Continetti noted a recent secret meeting the White House held for “an elite group of 100 young philanthropists and heirs to billionaire family fortunes.”

He reported, “This ‘discreet, invitation-only summit’ was intended, the author says, ‘to find common ground between the public sector and the so-called next generation philanthropists, many of whom stand to inherit billions in private wealth.”

Continetti reported on what happened. “‘I was a little worried they were going to get a bunch of rich kids in the room and fundraise for the Democratic Party,’ said one of the participants. ‘But they didn’t.’ The quote comes from 31-year-old Liesel Pritzker Simmons, whose billionaire cousin is the secretary of Commerce, and who along with her brother earned a $560 million inheritance by suing her dad. The Obama team did not have to hit up Pritzker Simmons for cash. She and her husband, an heir to the Montgomery Ward fortune, have contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to Democrats and liberal groups in recent years, including to ActBlue, the DSCC, Harry Reid’s Majority PAC, Priorities USA, Elizabeth Warren, and congressional candidate Sean Eldridge. Like Eldridge needs the money. He is married to Chris Hughes, who lucked into rooming with Mark Zuckerberg at Harvard and now is worth around $400 million.”

Noted the study, “Who governs? Who really rules? To what extent is the broad body of U.S. citizens sovereign, semi-sovereign, or largely powerless?”

Gilens said, “Both parties have to a large degree embraced a set of policies that reflect the needs, preferences and interests of the well to do.”

ObamaCare and Common Core: Two Fronts of the Same Coup!-Posted on American Thinker-By Bruce Deitrick Price-On April 27, 2014:

Medical insurance and public education might seem to be two different worlds with different problems.  But the proposed solutions were essentially the same.  Here are ten descriptions that apply equally to ObamaCare and Common Core:

1) HUGE FEDERAL POWER-GRAB: The obvious result of both ObamaCare and Common Core is that Obama and his czars get a bigger government to administer, more money to play with, more jobs for their loyal troops, and more control over people’s lives.

2) NOT RESPONSES TO POPULAR DEMAND: ObamaCare and Common Core were massive, top-down interventions demanded by left-wing politics and ideology, not something the public asked for.  Alleged problems were used as an excuse for adopting solutions that would grow government.  The big question was, what can they get away with?  (We see the same dynamics playing out in climate change.)

3) INCOMPREHENSIBLE BY DESIGN: A sentence was not used if a paragraph could be concocted.  Thousands of new requirements, regulations, laws, and standards were contained in dense verbiage that neither Congress nor the public would ever read and couldn’t understand if they did.  Almost every paragraph includes expanded powers and hidden consequences.  Citizens would be further reduced to a childlike dependence on bureaucrats.

4) PUBLIC EXCLUDED FROM LEGISLATIVE PROCESS: The complexity of the political process, plus the density of jargon and propaganda, ensured that John Q. Citizen was ignored.  These programs were passed by stealth, chicanery, arm-twisting, and bribes.  The Cornhusker Kickback put ObamaCare over the top.  Similarly, so-called stimulus money earmarked for shovel-ready jobs was used as grants (i.e., bribes) to persuade the states to embrace Race to the Top, a precursor of Common Core.  The fix was in.

5) DISHONEST MARKETING: The Obama administration made endless promises that turned out to be endless lies, all symbolized by Obama’s promise that if you like your plan, you can keep your plan.  States were told that if they liked their schools the way they are, they can keep them that way.  In fact, these programs require changing everything.

6) MEDIA COMPLICIT: The mainstream media became cheerleaders.  News reports were not critical or analytical.  Try to find a newspaper in America that opposed these radical programs.  The average local paper wrote editorial after editorial in support of ObamaCare and Common Core.

7) VERY EXPENSIVE, WITH RISING COSTS: The propaganda for these programs emphasized that the government would save money and individual citizens would get more for less.  In fact, medical costs  immediately went up for individuals, as did the outlays to implement Common Core.  Improvement, if any, will be negligible, not that improvement was ever the primary goal.

8) FUNDAMENTAL TRANSFORMATION: Both programs embody what Obama meant when he talked about “a fundamental transformation of the country.”  Translation: his socialist way or the highway.  Socialists have been seeking this “transformation” for 100 years.  (John Dewey’s education agenda, according to Robin Eubanks, leads to Common Core.)

9) TOTALITARIAN INTENT: Both programs prescribed in detail how everyone must think and behave.  Both programs allow the government to collect far more information and to meddle in more aspects of everyone’s life.  It was like giving the EPA two more sectors to regulate. 

10) INSTANT TRAIN WRECKS: Both programs, once they left the station, became train wrecks.  Of course, it was too late by that time to stop them.  As things continue to go wrong, Obama will simply declare: “It’s a big success. Everything is just like we planned.”  Yes, that might, grimly enough, be exactly true.

All the similarities mean that once you understand one of these things, you understand the other.  They are two facets on the same zirconium.  They are two fronts of the same coup.

Rahm Emanuel is famous for saying that you don’t want to “waste” a crisis.  A crisis, in his world, is any excuse for doing what you already wanted to do.  Many people suspect that Obama, if he needs a crisis, is perfectly capable of fabricating one.

There is a miasma of fraud, malfeasance, and bad faith hanging over both of these schemes.  The logical thing for the country is to repeal both ObamaCare and Common Core, or get ready for the worst.

Although I have developed a strong tolerance for reading the worlds of the left-wing press through many years of exposure, Christopher Hayes article, “The New Abolitionism”, in The Nation made me almost sick with anger. Hayes’ article is notably noxious, attempting as it does to draw a parallel between the fossil fuel industry and slavery and arguing that efforts to destroy the fossil fuel industry amount to a “New Abolitionism” in that as the Abolitionists of old argued for the destruction of the wealth represented by the slaves held in the Antebellum South, today’s “New Abolitionists” now must argue for destruction of the accumulated wealth represented by fossil fuels. This radical course of action in setting out to deliberately destroy $10 Trillion in wealth is justified, he argues, by the requirement to stop climate change and thereby “save the planet.”  This argument for a so-called “New Abolitionism” therefore contains within it all three core elements of what I would describe as the New Totalitarianism.

First, the logic of the New Totalitarians begins with the flawed assumption that they are setting out to avert an apocalypse of some kind of another. Their views on the issue at hand, they argue, must be adopted or the consequences will be the destruction of all life or something approaching it. It is interesting that the form that this apocalypse will take is often unexamined and it is instead simply deemed to be unthinkable (to remedy this, I would recommend that everyone read Herman Kahn’s brilliant book about nuclear warfare, “Thinking About the Unthinkable”).  This assumption that disaster is inevitable and that there is only one course that may avert it leads naturally to the second core assumption of New Totalitarianism.

Since the advocates of this New Totalitarianism, such as Hayes, assume themselves to be in the absolute right and, further, that the fact that they are so is self-evident, they assume that all opposition to both their goals and their methods must be rooted in evil. Hence the abhorrent rhetorical strategies that they adopt in seeking to advance their own goals, such as branding anyone who disagrees with any element of their catechism a “denier” and Hayes’ implicit comparison of those whose economic interests align with the fossil fuel industry with slaveowners. This is not the rhetoric of reason but of the worst kind of religious fanaticism, one which assumes the existence of only One True Faith and which deems those who deny the light and self-evident justice of the One True Faith to be heretics who must be burned and destroyed. The purpose of this sort of intolerance is to make debate impossible.

Finally, because the New Totalitarians believe that they are fighting to ward off Armageddon and that their opponents can only be motivated by evil, they have no patience of the niceties of civil society, and in particular the rule of law. They do not mean to win debates with the opposition, they mean to silence and to destroy it by any means necessary. This tendency is visible across many different fronts and is notably evident in Hayes’ article, wherein he doesn’t even stop to address the fact that the $10 Trillion in wealth that he would so blithely and confidentially destroy represents the work of a lifetime for millions of people—not merely unsympathetic oil company executives, but also for millions of ordinary people including many millions in the Third World who are enjoying a decent standard of living for the first time in history (and whose aspirations, as I have pointed out many times before, ultimately make any debate over the use of fossil fuels and global CO2 emissions a waste of time and energy). Because they think themselves to have absolute good on their own side and because they believe that their opposition represents absolute evil, the New Totalitarians feel free to demand that the coercive power of the state be used to destroy the property and liberty of individuals and corporations seemingly without any regard for the loss that that actually represents. It is one thing to blithely proclaim, “we must all sacrifice for the state, comrades” from the comfort of your Crimean dacha when it isn’t your family’s farm that is being collectivized.

Hayes’ article is fascinating in that it nudges towards an unspoken truth that the left has seemingly chosen to ignore in its totalitarian drift but then blinks from facing it at the last second. If you set out on a quest to achieve some goal and, along the way, you decide that some other group of people are evil and that they must therefore be targeted for selective prosecution and the confiscation of their property, it is only right and natural that such a group will resist to their last ounce of strength. If we accept—which I do not, but for the sake of argument I will indulge the notion—that the countless individuals whose wealth is tied to the consumption of fossil fuels are the equivalent of the slaveholders of the Old South, then does it not follow that they should resist any attack upon their property every bit as fiercely as those who served the Confederacy did? And, if we accept that Hayes is writing in good faith when he acknowledges that there exists a wide moral gulf between the ownership of human beings and that of decomposed plant matter, does it not follow that those whose wealth and economic interests would be attacked would have rather more justice contained in their resistance than those who rose on behalf of the Confederacy did?

Therein lies the fundamental problem with both Hayes’ article and with the architecture of the ideology of the New Totalitarians: if they insist of dogmatically adhering to their own professed beliefs and insist upon using the power of the state to attempt to target the property of a significant percentage of the population for destruction while being utterly willing to use coercion to silence any and all dissent while willingly overriding the rule of law anywhere that it should prove to be an inconvenience, then the inevitable result will be civil war. No group of people, anywhere, should be expected to sit passively by while they and their property are targeted for liquidation and destruction, nor will they. Those segments of the left that are edging towards totalitarianism are not just threatening to start a war: they happen to be leading us towards a war that they will inevitably lose.

After all, why did the South lose the first American Civil War? Ultimately the defeat of the Confederacy was largely a matter of economics. The North had more people and a larger industrial base and in the end they used both to good effect to grind up the armies of the South in spite of the tremendous spirit and gallantry displayed by the latter. If an ideologically-inspired civil war were to take place in America—or anywhere else in the West, for that matter—today, who would have more money, more guns, and more soldiers at their disposal?

Palestinian Authority Anti-Semites Get a Free Pass from the State Department

The State Department conspicuously omitted the Palestinian Authority from its March 13 report onanti-Semitism around the world. The report did note that Hamas, which rules Gaza, treats the anti-Semitic Protocols of the Elders of Zion as fact, denies the Holocaust, and broadcasts hateful TV shows aimed at children.

But the PA under Mahmoud Abbas, which controls the West Bank, managed to escape blame for the anti-Semitism that it promotes with no less energy. The American Jewish Committee released a study showing the PA's schoolbooks characterize Jews in "hateful" and "derogatory" language, cite the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as a legitimate source of historical information, and omit any mention of the Holocaust. The State Department report did mention that in the 1990s, Holocaust denial became commonplace in popular media in the Palestinian Authority- without any acknowledgment that most of the "popular media" is government-controlled. - Rafael Medoff (National Review)

Today is the first day of my retirement from the military. Today is less a day of reflection for me than it is a day of joyous anticipation of the future. I keep only the flag set from my deployment and one other award in my office at home as I do not equate future events with past accomplishments; rather the past and my retirement from it are but steppingstones into what the Lord will have me do next.

But rather than focus on the various service that I have done and my accomplishments etc., let’s focus today upon the other members of our military. When I say things like brave men and women, heroes, patriots, fellow soldiers, I am not just using axioms. To no man is the word brother of more import or meaning than to a person who serves in the military of the greatest country on the face of God’s creation.

To my fellow soldiers, from all the years of my service, I thank you. I thank you for sacrifices that you have made to ensure that this country remains free from tyranny and oppression. I thank you for those times when you have stood outside in torrential rain, or blizzards, or blowing sand, and remained vigilant at your post. I thank you and admire you for the willingness to maintain a value system that is sometimes scoffed by the world. I sympathize with you each and every time you go to a military school or go online for more “mandatory training”. I’m there with you, my brothers and sisters, and feel your pain when you sit through yet another death by PowerPoint presentation that you have seen countless times before. I am there by your side, my comrades, when you’re told at first formation that today is a DAT day. I am there with you as you sit in the “corral” and start guzzling coffee, water, juice, anything that will help you “donate” for the drug test so that you can get on with the business of the day (having been the collector, I will miss that the least!). I am right there with you, each and every one of you, as you sit in front of the desk of the admin NCO (personal pun there) and have to – yet again – provide all your personal information so that your paperwork is up-to-date. I am even with you, and know from experience, when you stand in front of the first sergeant or the commander’s desk and await the fall of the hammer.

And I am also there with you in your pride, pride when you hear your name being called out for a promotion or an award. I am there, as are all the previous members of the military, as you solemnly salute the flag while taps is being played. I am with you as you proudly stand, even when in ‘civies’, and salute the flag each and every time you hear the national anthem being played. I am with you, my fellow soldiers, as you quietly mourn every time you see a coffin draped with the flag of the United States of America. I feel, as you do, that twinge when each rifle shot cracks through the air during a 21 gun salute for a fallen Soldier.

I consider myself not lucky nor do I consider myself fortunate; rather I consider myself blessed to have been offered the opportunity to serve alongside the greatest citizens of the greatest country in the world. Even though my name is known, at present, by many soldiers - over time, those who know me will also retire or leave the service and eventually the memory of me will be nothing more than a name on an old pay roster or report, and maybe a fading photograph somewhere in some seldom viewed archive. But those things matter not.

Loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, personal courage - more than just values, these things are foundational to ensuring that our Constitution, our civil liberties, and our freedoms remain. Know this, my brothers and sisters in service, that I will always consider you family. I will live my life, post military, upholding not only the Army values but also values that will embody what this country was founded upon. I will remain vigilant, as an American citizen, to ensure that your sacrifices and your service do not go unperceived or discerned by my fellow citizens.

The oath that I took to defend the Constitution holds no less validity today, for me, than it did all those years ago when I first raised my right hand. Now, I have what could be known as perhaps an even greater opportunity to uphold that oath. Should I entertain running in an election, rest assured that my actions will maintain the noble honor that each of you has sacrificed for. Should I but simply live my life in retired bliss (sounds kind of boring), even then I will honor your sacrifices. “Dear God, if there be trouble, let it be in my time – so that my children may know peace”, is a prayer, for me, which does not end on this day.

I have but one entreaty for you: live your life, do your duty, provide your service, and do all in a manner that will not sully the sacrifices of those who came before. Live your life with honor, compassion, truth, faith, and with the hope that what you do today will be viewed by the generations of tomorrow as noble and worthy.

My fellow patriots, soldiers, citizens, brothers and sisters - I thank you for the time I was able to spend with you in service to our great country. As I go forth, on this first day, I carry with me all that I have mentioned here and humbly thank you for your efforts in ensuring that this nation of the people, for the people and by the people indeed does not perish from the earth.
