Thomas Jefferson, third President of the United States and the primary author of the Declaration of Independence, repeatedly affirmed the rights of conscience as embodied in the First Amendment’s protection of speech, religion, and peaceful assembly. To quote him:
“No provision in our Constitution ought to be dearer to man than that which protects the rights of conscience.”
What was Jefferson referring to as “conscience”? Prior to the American Revolution, particularly in the early 1700s and late 1600s, Americans were forced to support churches not of their choosing. In some colonies, ministers of non-approved denominations were imprisoned and even hanged. From the memory of this intolerance came insistence upon a Bill of Rights being included in the newly ratified Constitution.
For 200 years these rights were tested and expanded by the courts into a clearly defined body of law that protected the most important rights of humanity: the right to speak your mind without fear of legal prosecution. It doesn’t mean that there won’t be social or economic repercussions; others have the right to disagree with your speech and exercise their own First Amendment right by sanctioning your speech via social isolation and vehemently disagreeing with your views while expounding upon their own. Objectionable speech is best opposed by reasoned speech, not by mob violence or censorship by government.
A growing, disturbing trend from a once vigorous defender of free speech emanates from the academic community. A few years ago I attended an event at Cal Poly that hosted Dr. Robert Spencer who specialized in the intellectual fight against radical Islamic Jihad. A number of Cal Poly students attended, most from various social science disciplines. As soon as Spencer began to speak, a number of students angrily left the room as a form of protest against Spencer’s message, exercising their disagreement via the First Amendment without, however, hearing a word he had to say. A number of Muslim students remained for Spencer’s entire talk, asking pointed questions at the end of the event.
At the end of Spencer’s talk a young woman stated that Spencer shouldn’t be allowed to speak on college campuses as her First Amendment rights protected her against (what she considered) hate speech. She was a senior, scheduled to graduate in a few weeks, a sad commentary on how indoctrination has replaced critical thinking in our universities. Several attorneys present in the audience proceeded to correct her misinterpretation of the First Amendment, which protects objectionable speech against the tyranny of the majority….
Allowing the government to censor the speech of unpopular groups will inevitably lead to suppression of all views not approved by the government.

In her new book What Happened, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took a shot at literary interpretation — and twisted George Orwell’s book 1984 to mean the exact opposite of what it really means.
“Attempting to define reality is a core feature of authoritarianism,” Clinton wrote. “This is what the Soviets did when they erased political dissidents from historical photos. This is what happens in George Orwell’s classic novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, when a torturer holds up four fingers and delivers electric shocks until his prisoner sees five fingers as ordered.”
So far, so good. Then Clinton draws the exact wrong message from Orwell’s classic. “The goal is to make you question logic and reason and to sow mistrust toward exactly the people we need to rely on: our leaders, the press, experts who seek to guide public policy based on evidence, ourselves,” she bizarrely added.
But Clinton wasn’t done. “For Trump, as with so much he does, it’s about simple dominance,” she concluded.
Writer and lecturer James Heartfield noted that Clinton’s interpretation is a “bizarre misreading.”
One Twitter user cleverly pointed out how Clinton’s own interpretation of 1984 uses “doublespeak” to subvert the very message of the classic work.
This literary analysis of Clinton’s paragraph hit the nail on the head. The former secretary of State started out by correctly explaining Orwell’s point — authoritarianism does indeed try to redefine reality.

Both the Left and the Right have pushed narratives that dismiss and demonize the other side, but Clinton’s use of propaganda here was rather obvious. In 1984, every single one of those groups besides “ourselves” is in on the propaganda game. The political leaders are controlling the narrative, erasing history and even words from existence. The press is an arm of the state, pushing the big government’s propaganda (sound familiar?). A powerful group of “experts” use their position to oppress the people, and Orwell reveals this system directly, as the main character works in the administration.
Orwell’s point in 1984 was that the very kind of technocratic progressivism which Hillary Clinton praises as the solution to all social ills is itself the deep and abiding threat. Since the late 1890s onward, progressivism has placed tremendous faith in scientific “experts” to reshape society, and the governing administrative state is a direct result of this movement.
Clinton, as leader of the party of big government, is infamous for pushing the all-consuming liberal narrative of political correctness, which brooks no opposition or question. She unequivocally embraced “intersectionality” during the campaign, championing “oppressed” groups which actually exert political power and dismissing those who would dare to disagree as “deplorables.”…
This is why Hillary Clinton’s misreading of Orwell is so dangerous. So many liberals see themselves as being on the side of the angels, and they cannot come to grips with the fact that millions of Americans disagree with them, for rational reasons that have nothing to do with racism or “hate.”…

A former psychiatric patient viciously punched four passers-by then attacked three police officers while screaming Allahu Akbar in Toulouse today.
The enraged man, 42, began beating shoppers in the French city at around 4pm before police who were only metres away swooped in.
The assailant kicked and punched the officers before they managed to contain and arrest him.
He continued to shout Allahu Akbar – Arabic for God is Great – as he was wrestled to the ground before bursting into tears.
Footage shows the man being handcuffed and lifted on to a stretcher before being taken hospital.
One witness said: ‘We were chatting and he jumped on us. He first caught my son and then beat my daughter. We just ran.’…
French police say the alleged perpetrator was released from a psychiatric hospital in April….

The extreme liberal movement Antifa, anti-fascists, are continuing to protest President Trump all throughout the nation. They claim their use of violence is ‘necessary’ to combat authoritarianism and they are not sorry about it.
‘Experts’ and activists alike in the Antifa movement agree that the ‘use of force is intrinsic to their political philosophy,’ the Hill reports.
“The justification [of the use of violence] is that Nazi ideology at its very core is founded on violence and on wielding power by any means,” said Mike Isaacson, founder of Smash Racism D.C., an antifa organization in Washington.
Isaacson is unequivocal in his defense of violence as a legitimate tool to combat the creeping threat of what he deems authoritarianism.
“There is the question of whether these people should feel safe organizing as Nazis in public, and I don’t think they should,” said Isaacson.
“I don’t think anyone should think that someone who is intent on politically organizing for the sake of creating a state-sponsored genocide — I don’t think is something that we should protect.”
This report comes after it was revealed Antifa has started a violent anti-cop ‘workshop’ titled “Our Enemies in Blue”.
The program is being touted on various alt-left websites — including It’s Going Down, Sub.Media and Insurrection News — and are promoting it as a “Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement” (RAM). They are openly calling for violence against the police.
The group published a press release: in it they disclosed their plan to serve as a protective barrier to mosques that “are being ruthlessly bombed” (are they talking about America?) and the alleged systematic battering of LGBTQ community. “The destruction of black life continues unabated as millions languish in the plantations of the modern day slave system,” it states.
The ‘heroins’ of RAM includes Mumia Abu Jamal, “the Black Panther activist who shot and killed Philadelphia police officer Daniel Faulkner in 1981,” and Russell Shoats, “who shot a police officer in the back five times in 1970.”
Far Left Watch has outlined the goals of RAM, which is everything from “Abolition of Gender” to the “Expropriation and the Cooperative Economy.” ‘Much of this borrows from the leftist guerilla movement known as the Rojava Revolution in northern Syria, who are currently involved in battling ISIS,’ reports the Daily Wire.
It has been reported, by the Daily Caller, that RAM has been holding different anti-police workshops
including: “Legal Training”, “Introduction to Anarchism,” and “Our Enemies in Blue,” which deals with
actual actions against the police–or how to handle law enforcement during violent clashes.

Hillary Clinton told CNN on Wednesday that it is time to abolish the Electoral College, part of a sweeping interview where the former Democratic nominee sought to explain why she lost the 2016 election.
Clinton, in the interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper, displayed her animus for fired FBI Director James Comey, reflected on her love for the people — namely former President Bill Clinton — who helped her get through the crushing loss and blasted the arcane election body that she believes helped Donald Trump win the presidency.
“I think it needs to be eliminated,” Clinton said of the Electoral College. “I’d like to see us move beyond it, yes.”
Clinton won the 2016 popular vote by nearly 3 million votes, a fact she routinely brings up in her new memoir. But Trump won the Electoral College, a body of 538 members who select the president based on the popular vote in each state, meaning the person who gets the most votes nationally doesn’t necessarily win the election. SWAMP THING LUIS GUTIERREZ DOUBLES DOWN

Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez, who represents the 4th Congressional district a gerrymandered snake-shaped district designed to protect his vitriolic incumbency, has doubled down on his criticism o DHS head Gen. John Kelly as being unfit to wear his uniform for opposing the illegal and unconstitutional DACA program rejected by a Congress in which Gutierrez sat:
Illinois Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D) responded to Gen. John Kelly [Ret.], after the White House chief of staff dismissed the Chicagoan's first round of criticisms.
Gutierrez said Kelly, a retired four-star Marine general, is "a politician, OK, not a general."
"What could be more mean and more vicious than to say 'you've got six months to pack up...and leave the United States'?" Gutierrez asked of Kelly.
"I don't see [him wearing] a uniform," Gutierrez told the Washington Post.
Ann we don’t see Rep. Gutierrez ever wearing a uniform, unlike Gen’ Kelly’s son Robert who gave his life for his country in Afghanistan fighting to protect America and the freedom of Muslims seeking liberation from the depraved tyranny of the Taliban:
Robert Kelly, 29, was killed in a roadside bomb blast in 2010 during a foot patrol in Afghanistan's Helmand province.
Like his son, who gave his life for others who did not look like him or shared many of his beliefs, Gen. Kelly served with and commanded and witnessed the sacrifice of soldiers of all races, ethnicities and genders. He is nor a bigot, but a patriot who deserved better for seeking enforcement of the nation’s laws and Constitution than what Rep. Gutierrez gave him:
The Washington Examiner reported that U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, a Democrat, took personal aim at Kelly because Kelly once reportedly spoke favorably about the program. House members reported in July that Kelly told Latino lawmakers in a closed-door meeting that he was supportive of the program, but pointed out that it was probably illegal….
“General Kelly is a hypocrite who is a disgrace to the uniform he used to wear,” the congressman said in a statement.
"General Kelly, when he was the head of Homeland Security, lied straight to the faces of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus about preventing the mass deportation of DREAMers," Gutierrez also said. "He has no honor and should be drummed out of the White House along with the white supremacists and those enabling the president's actions by ‘just following orders.'"
It is Rep. Gutierrez who has no honor as well as no respect fo American citizenship, the nation’s laws and the Constitution he was sworn to uphold. Gutierrez has long supported open borders and even supported expanding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program to illegal parents:
For Democrats such as Grijalva and Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., amnesty and the political benefits stemming from it are inevitable. They are quite willing to use children to exploit the inherent compassion of the American people if it means ensuring the political future of the Democratic Party through the gratitude of millions of illegal aliens allowed to come here and stay.
Gutierrez recently told a La Raza conference that it was only a "down payment" that President Obama gave the Latino community with his Deferred Action for Children Arrivals (DACA) program that halted the deportation of 600,000 of "our people":
"Now it is time for the president in the United States ... (to) free the mom and dads of the DREAMers and to go further — be broad and expansive and generous."
Unlike Rep. Luis Gutierrez, Gen. John Kelly has long his country honorably: Gutierrez is a career politician living on the taxpayer’s dime while, like Bill and Hillary Clinton, using his office to personally enrich himself:
In Chicago, where a decade long building boom has reshaped neighborhoods, politicians have come to rely on real estate interests to donate to their campaigns. But the Democratic congressman's financial relationship with some contributors goes beyond campaign cash, according to records and interviews.
In half a dozen deals with campaign supporters since 2002, Gutierrez has made about $421,000 by investing his money in real estate deals and exiting a short time later. The congressman says he made a profit in five of those deals but lost a small amount of money on the sixth. …
Gutierrez has bought and sold properties with five campaign donors, including convicted political fundraiser Antoin "Tony" Rezko….
The demise of DACA wouldl be a deserved end to a magnet for illegal immigration based on an unconstitutional executive order by President Barack Hussein Obama who was frustrated that Congress failed to pass it as legislation named the DREAM Act. As syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer observed on Fox News’ Special Report at the time:
You can have executive orders that implement already existing laws. What Obama has done in the DREAM Act, which is exactly what you've talked about. Essentially he passed a law by executive order that the Congress had rejected, wouldn't pass, that is unbelievably unconstitutional. It's as if a Republican ran and said I don't like the capital gains tax, Congress rejects an abolition of that tax and then he orders the IRS not to collect it. People would be up in arms and would be impeaching. He's doing that over and over again on immigration
Even President Obama said he didn’t have the authority to do what he eventually did – enact the Congressionally rejected DREAM Act through executive order:
With respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations through executive order, that’s just not the case, because there are laws on the books that Congress has passed — and I know that everybody here at Bell is studying hard so you know that we’ve got three branches of government. Congress passes the law. The executive branch’s job is to enforce and implement those laws. And then the judiciary has to interpret the laws.
There are enough laws on the books by Congress that are very clear in terms of how we have to enforce our immigration system that for me to simply through executive order ignore those congressional mandates would not conform with my appropriate role as President.
Was President Obama also a dishonorable hypocrite for saying the executive order on DACA had no legitimacy in the law or Constitution? Thankfully, unlike Gutierrez, we still have Americans like John Kelly and his son Robert willing to serve their country honorably even to the point of making the ultimate sacrifice.

This idea isn’t some Wahhabi invention. It comes from statements attributed to Muhammad in the Hadith:

Nor is it a Wahhabi idea that “the hour will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them.” That, also, comes from Muhammad:

Hate against other Muslims, Christians and Jews
The al-Tawhid (monotheism) is a 45-book teaching tool that not only teaches that Christians and Jews as second-class people, but also condemns Islamic schools of thought such as the Shiite or the mystical current of Sufism. For example, the construction of shrines or mosques over the graves of religious personalities is condemned, a practice which can be observed among Shiites and Sufis. From the Wahhabi point of view, such veneration is a reprehensible act of polytheism. Those who do this have fallen away from Islam and are eternally condemned, teach the Wahhabi textbooks. “Whoever makes the graves of the prophets and righteous ones into mosques is evil,” is the title of a seventh-grade textbook. In another place, Sufism is called a “perverse path.”
In the eyes of the Saudi Ministry of Education, Christians and Jews are regarded as “the original unbelievers.” Every Muslim, who doubts about his belief is himself a disbeliever, is the teaching material for the fifth class. The books also warn the Muslims not to show themselves loyal to “unbelievers.” The most important thing in this context is the statement on the Last Day: “The hour will not come until the Muslims fight the Jews and kill them.”…
The freedom of speech is under strenuous attack. This is not just about me. If I am silenced, a dangerous precedent will be set that people can be denied access to the means of communications if their views aren’t acceptable to the elites. This would mean the end of a free society in the U.S. Every American should care about this. There is nowhere to flee, nowhere else to go.

Conservatives of the country, take note: Voices are being squelched. Viewpoints are being stifled. Free thinking is being vilified. The First Amendment is being choked.
And it’s all being brought about by a leftist’s favorite tool — controlling in the name of protecting.
The left’s logic goes this way: “Free speech is good, but it has limits.” Or, “We believe in free speech — of course, we believe in the freedom of speech. But some speech is harmful and hateful and hurtful.”
It’s the type of logic that gets Milo Yiannopoulos banned from taxpayer-funded university speaking podiums. It’s also the type of logic that lets thugs masquerade as righteous protesters, and set things on fire, like buildings and police cars, ‘cause their snowflake sensibilities get offended.
It’s spreading.
It’s making massive inroads in the private sector, most noticeably perhaps online, in social media.
“My website and posts have been scrubbed from Google search,” said author, speaker and activist Pamela Geller, explaining in an email how her American Freedom Defense Initiative and Atlas Shrugs sites, aimed at revealing the truths of Islam, were also recently booted from PayPal and Pinterest. Why?
As PayPalexplained [sic] in an email to Geller: “We have recently reviewed your usage of PayPal’s services … [and] due to the nature of your activities, we have chosen to discontinue service to you. … We ask that you please remove all references to PayPal from your website. This includes removing PayPal as a payment option, as well as the PayPal logo and/or shopping cart.”
PayPay [sic], following an outcry from Geller’s readers, reversed its decision.
Small victory.
Geller still faces this: “Google Adsense has banned my account. YouTube demonetized all of my videos. My Twitter account has been shadow-banned,” she wrote in her email.
A shadow-ban is when hashtags only show up in the feeds of existing followers — an occurrence that then restricts the ability of the account holder to grow and expand.
Geller’s not alone on that.
“I’m shadow-banned on Facebook and Twitter,” said Robert Spencer, an author who’s written extensively about Islam and jihad and who serves as director of the online Jihad Watch.
In an email, he said: “In mid-February, my referrals from each one dropped off by 90 percent, and have never recovered. Twitter has flagged several of my tweets as ‘hateful,’ including one in which I said, accurately, that Islam is not a religion of peace.”
Spencer’s facing his own shenanigans from Google.
“Google,” he said, “has altered its search results to give only results favorable to Islam, so while for years one searched for ‘jihad’ and got Jihad Watch as the first result, based on content and size of readership, now it doesn’t even come in on the first page.”
YouTube, meanwhile, has also removed a playlist of “Robert Spencer” videos, he said.
It’s alarming, yes? We’re talking about attacks on free thought here — but we’re also talking about attacks on livelihoods.
Geller and Spencer, in part, earn their livings on social media backs.
“The left is trying to use Charlottesville as its Reichstag Fire moment — a chance to shut down all dissent,” Spencer said. “The Southern Poverty Law Center’s spurious and politically biased ‘hate group’ list became the linchpin of this effort, and that’s when I was banned from PayPal.”
Like Geller‘s, Spencer’s PayPal ban was reversed — but only after supporters raised substantial outcry.
And again: That’s just one small victory.
The onslaught against free speech is growing wider as we speak.
“Twitter Bans Activist Mommy for Tweeting Her Dislike of Teen Vogue’s Anal Sex Guide,” blasted one recent PJ Media headline, in a story about Elizabeth Johnston, “The Activist Mommy,” also known as @activistmommy1 on Twitter, who dared to criticize the digital editorial director of Teen Vogue, for allowing for the publication of a guide on anal sex.
Her tweet wasn’t even that controversial.
“Congrats Phillip!” she tweeted in mid-August, to editor Phillip Picardi. “A sodomite mag just awarded you for teaching kids sodomy. Way to recruit there @TheAdvocateMag!”
YouTube, owned by the same Alphabet company that owns Google, then cut Johnston’s ability to monetize her videos. Geller, Spencer, now Johnston — that’s starting to seem par for the course. But as PJ Media wrote on Johnston’s plight: “This one falls under ‘too stupid to believe,’ but it’s actually true. … While Johnston’s posts and views are controversial to some, none of what she has to say is new. Her views on homosexuality come from the best-selling book in the world — the Bible.”
Note to social media self: No comments critical of Islam. No remarks based on biblical teachings. Got it.
Geller suggests the left, “awash in funding,” is on rampage to kill all dissent. And if they can’t get the government to do it, well then, there’s always the private biz world — at least the private business ventures that are headed by similarly minded leftists.
“They mean to cut off everything from those who are working in defense of the free and the brave,” she said. “The left elites control the cultural apparatus in this country — media, movies, entertainment, academia, etc. There was one place that was free and unfettered — the Internet. Consequently, they blame social media and Internet sites for Trump’s victory and the continuing opposition to jihad and sharia. So, they mean to shut us down. Totalitarianism cloaked in ‘hate speech’ restrictions, and ‘tolerance.’ “…
“The freedom of speech is under strenuous attack,” Geller said. “This is not just about me. If I am silenced, a dangerous precedent will be set that people can be denied access to the means of communications if their views aren’t acceptable to the elites. This would mean the end of a free society in the U.S. Every American should care about this. There is nowhere to flee, nowhere else to go.”…
First comes Geller and Spencer. Then, the Mommy Activist, and Savage. Next? Patriots, beware. We shouldn’t wait for the answer on that. It will mean it’s too late.
