U.S. Hits Refugee Cap Months Early: How America’s Muslim Population is Shaping the Nation
As the United States hits its maximum number of refugees allowed for 2017, it’s important to look at how these numbers impact America both today and in the coming years. The Trump Administration put the refugee cap at 50,000 admittances per calendar year, which was reached on July 12, (three months before the end of the immigration fiscal year ending in September.) Some refugees will still be allowed entry if they can prove ‘close family ties’ with people who are already in the United States. Compare this to Obama, who let in 84,995 refugees during the fiscal calendar year ending in September 2016. Had President Trump lost the election, the U.S. would have received 110,000 refugees in 2017. According to the Pew Research Center, half of the 2016 refugees (38,901) were Muslim. Nearly 99% of Syrian refugees let in the United States were Muslim, with a mere 1% being Christian. Refugee admittances aside, since 1992, the number of Muslim immigrants per year has doubled, with the total around 100,000 admitted each year.
We know from the Quran that Muslims are not allowed to migrate to non-Muslim countries for wealth or economic reasons, so there goes the ‘they just want the American dream’ narrative. In Islam, At-ta’arrub ba’d al-hijra means “becoming shorn of one’s faith after migrating.” In other words, it is the act of leaving a region where Islam is dominant and moving to a place where one would be forced to assimilate with non-Muslims, and it is counted as one of the major sins. In contrast, hijrah is the the idea of Muslims immigrating to non-Muslim lands for a spiritual journey, which is greatly honored in Islam. Hijrah originated as the Prophet Muhammad’s holy journey from Makkah to Madina that took place in the year 622. Neither money, wealth nor status was the motivating factor for this pilgrimage; and still today, movements motivated by these factors are strictly forbidden. The sole purpose of the hijrah journey is to spread the word of Islam. Scholars agree that hijrah did not end after Mohammed’s journey; rather it is a continuing journey that all Muslims are on today.
To attain a true hijrah, Muslims are instructed to focus on five areas: faith, knowledge, acts of worship, desire, and ethics. Abul Husayn al-Basri states that:
It is recommended for a believer to travel to non-Muslim countries for the purpose of spreading the religion [of Islam] and its teaching, provided that he can safeguard himself and his young children against the dangers of loss of the faith. The Prophet said to Imam ‘Ali, “If Allah guides a person from among His servants through you, then that is better than everything between the east and the west on which the sun shines.” When asked by a person for a counsel, he said, “I advise you not to associate anything with Allah…and to call the people to Islam. You should know that [the reward] for you for each person who answers [your call] is [equal to] emancipating a slave from the children of [Prophet] Ya’qûb.”
To help those Muslims who have made the journey from a Muslim-majority country to a non-Muslim country, the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) outlined its “1440 Vision.” The 1440 Vision states that the IDB’s responsibility is to foster socio-economic development of its member countries and Muslim communities in non-member countries “in accordance with Sharia law.” (emphasis added.) The 55-page document outlines in plain English that the goal of the Muslim community, or ummah, is to strengthen Muslims in host countries; but not the host countries or the non-Muslims in them. Other goals include doubling the gross domestic product (GDP) of member countries and alleviating the poverty of Muslims in non-member countries; but again, not increasing the GDP of those member countries. The IDB is also concerned that second-generation Muslims in non-Muslim countries don’t uphold the tenets of Islam properly, therefore it is imperative that the constant migration of Muslims from Muslim countries into these non-Muslim countries occur. Perhaps the most telling portion of the IDB is their stance on terrorism:
“The root of terrorism lies in the illegal population of Muslim lands, illegal invasion of Muslim countries, and the political and economic marginalisation or disenfranchisement of Muslim nations and entire communities. When the victims do not have sufficient conventional weapons to defend themselves and reclaim their legitimate rights and possessions, and when they see little prospect of a peaceful solution, they take to what the West correctly calls “asymmetrical warfare” – the weak fighting with the weapons and tactics of the weak against the strong. They take to insurgency, guerrilla warfare and – reprehensibly –terrorism. Powerful leaders, backed by their powerful media, then exploit the situation fully to their benefit.”
The IDB guidelines are influential in ensuring as few Muslim immigrants as possible are tempted to assimilate into their host countries and abandon or ‘get soft’ on shariah law. The IDB is also friendly with the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), giving them $250,000 in 1999 to build their Washington D.C. Headquarters.
Aside from the refugees and estimated 100,000 Muslim immigrants who will enter the United States this year, we do know there are already approximately 3.3 million Muslims in the country, which is 1% of the current population. According to the Pew Research Center, that number is expected to double sometime in the years 2010-2050, making Muslim populations surpass Jewish populations in the United States for the first time ever, and making Islam the country’s second-largest religion.
The U.S. Census Bureau does not collect religious information, (despite Linda Sarsour’s attempt to racially and ideologically divide everyone and have it included in the 2020 census) so we do not know the precise birthrate of Muslims once in the United States. However, according to the CIA Factbook on the Demographics of Islam, Muslims have the highest birth rate globally at 3.1 children per women. This is partially attributed to the fact that Muslim women have children at a younger age than any other religion.
It is important to note that the Muslim growth in the United States is not just from immigration or second-generation Muslims. In 2014, the Pew Research Center found that 23% of American Muslims were American-born converts. Muslim populations have grown immensely in native-born African American populations, with 59% of American-born converts being black. Muslim populations have also seen a sharp uptick in Latino communities whose members are traditionally Catholic, with 4-6% of American-born converts originating from the hispanic community.
Aside from immigration and conversion, another issue that could signal an irreversible change to the West is the slow to negative population growth of natives in first world countries. Statisticians universally agree that a 2.1 or higher birth rate is needed to maintain a stable population. European Union countries recorded a negative birth rate of 1.58 in the year 2015. In the United States, birth rates are significantly higher than Europe, with American Jewish and Christian woman both currently keeping the American birth rate at a sustainable level, (2.1 and 2.7, respectively.) Nonetheless, Muslim birthrates of 3.1 far surpass both.
So what are some notable highlights this past immigration fiscal year from the effects of Islam growing in America? San Diego bowed to sharia law when they introduced a new anti-Islamaphobia campaign engineered by the Muslim-Brotherhood affiliate CAIR. Anti-Israeli activists managed to get millions of women across the country to knowingly or unknowingly support their cause in the divisive Women’s March. A Somalian refugee was elected to Minnesota House of Representatives and voted for suicide bombers to receive life insurance payouts. Dozens of Muslims faked hate crimes and the country blamed Trump supporters. A Muslim doctor is going to trial for the alleged genital mutilation of nearly one-hundred female children in Michigan. Mainstream publications like the Washington Post are pushing articles promising us that Sharia Courts in America would be both constitutional and harmless. Even with just 1% of the population identifying as Muslim overall, the increase in sharia compliance is undeniable.
Since President Trump took office, he has reversed Obama’s stance on allowing more Muslims than Christians refugees in; with only 41% of those admitted in February being Christian, and 57% of those admitted in June identifying as Christian.
The estimation that the Islamic population of the United States will double anytime between 2010-2050 and overtake the Jewish population will mark a turning point in America and the world in general. Immigration laws and curbing refugee populations admitted is only a small part of the battle to keep the United States as it was intended to be — free from an ideology that does not assimilate and aims to dominate. Outside of the United States, it is expected that the Muslim population will surpass Christianity, which has been the world’s dominant religion, by the year 2030. At that time Muslims will make up 25% of the world’s population. Next time Europe scolds Trump for his refugee policy, kindly remind them of these numbers.
